3 former Wahine on U.S. snow VB team, Crosson from Cal Poly to Cal

Three former University of Hawaii volleyball players have been named to the U.S. team that will compete in this week’s inagural snow volleyball tournament in Moscow.
Emily Hartong, Katie Spieler and Karissa Cook will join Allie Wheeler (USC),on the roster. Making up the men’s team are Lloy Ball, Will Robbins, Kevin Owens and Tomas Goldsmith.
Play is three-on-three, best two-of-three with sets to 15.
The European volleyball federation officially recognized the sport in 2015, and a seven-stop European tour begins with this week’s event in Russia. The ultimate goal is to have snow volleyball in the Olympics, perhaps by 2026.

Good move for him. Sam Crosson was an assistant for a year before taking the Cal Poly job.
Not sure if former Wahine and interim coach Jennifer Carey Dorr applied.
Crosson takes over a Cal program that finished 15-16 overall and 10th in the Pac-12 in 2018. He replaces Jennifer Dorr, who guided the Bears on an interim basis during the season.
also on staff were assistant Spencer Mclachlan and DOVO Cayley Thurlby.

Todd Rogers were he to go full-time, w the addition of a couple of buddies to ‘cover’ SLO wvb, it would still be uphill for the Wahine.

    2. Rogers is full-time beach coach so we’ll see if he goes back to indoor.

Think its a major mistake by Cal to pass on Jen Carey.

I feel sorry for Cal Poly cause they were just becoming a team to recon with and now their coach leaves. I guess this is something all mid major schools need to worry about since the big five schools pay their coaches so much more. Be interesting to see how things turn out with Cal Poly.

Wouldn’t a volleyball get rock hard in the cold? Imagine getting six-packed. Ouch. Cold.

There’s news that future recruit Kate Lang recently lose her dad. Kinda sad…

  10. Kahuna December 20, 2018 6:32 pm

#8…Yes…very sad. It could be a game changer for Kate. Might have to make changes for the fiture and stay there to take care of mom.

Prayers up for the Lang family.

    8. they were talking about a different ball being used so …

Crosson’s career move is not so good news to CalPoly, Hawaii, and Big West Conference as very likely that CalPoly loses its grip as front runner and top competitor. Appreciate very much for Dave Shoji’s very hardy DEDICATION for keeping WV Program elite so long and wish Robyn-Angelica coaching team will continue the tradition.

Thought the AD said Jennifer Carey Dorr stay on staff as Associate head coach.

  17. Cindy Luis December 21, 2018 9:18 pm

    15. AD did.
“Dorr, who has been a member of the Cal program since 2009, will stay on as an associate head coach.”
