One of the top safeties in recent UH memory — Trayvon Henderson — appears to have reached an agreement with one of the top firms.
Carter Chow, son of Norm Chow, is part of the Steve Dubin-Don Yee firm that also represents Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo.
Henderson is preparing for the Jan. 27 Reece’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Anyone know what ever happened to Cheyenne Sanitoa, the highly touted safety that was recruited from American Samoa several years ago? As I recall, he was the former sprint champion of American Samoa and played in the Polenesian Bowl.

Gotta say though, if Mackenzie came to UH, he would not have been riding the pine the past two years and we probably don’t see Dru Brown.
Dru Brown was signed during the summer when we wiffed on Mackenzie and had no real backup plan.
Water under the bridge though. Congrats to the young man. Time to move on.
Just one thing … we didn’t wife on McKenzie. He was committed to us when his first choice, Oregon, passed on him. We had him until the Oregon OC (and McKenzie’s chief promoter) took the HC position at Central Florida. McKenzie had a special relationship with that HC dating back to an Oregon football summer camp, so not to anyone’s big surprise he changed he decommitted from UH. It’s unfortunate for us … but we were always the second choice and it was even so well documented that I read about it in Central Illinois. Hopefully, Moussa and Cordeira bring the same infusion of talent to us in 2018. We now have three solid backups to Brown (counting McDonald too) and that should lead to excellent completion for the next few years.
We whiffed on Jordan Ta’amu too, when he graduated from Pearl City High in 2015 and later in 2017 out of JC. A 3-star out of JC.
He always dreamed of playing for UH, per an article.

Nobody offered Jordan a scholarship out of high school and then out of JC. He walked on at Mississippi and only got to play because of injuries to the other qbs. If he wanted to play for UH so badly he could’ve walked on here. Besides, recruiting is not an exact science and people’s comments about UH missing certain athletes only come after they do good elsewhere. If they do badly I don’t here people saying good thing he never come to UH. Hindsight is 20/20.
FWIW: I don’t believe Ta’amu walked on at Ole Miss, and he reportedly was offered by Ole Miss, Minnesota, New Mexico and Southern Miss out of JC. Either way, it all worked out for the young man.

I totally agree with some comments. You can’t offer everybody and needs and existing roster commitments take precedence. Just because a young man does well elsewhere it is not a reflection on the school, evaluation is the huge gauge. This happens constantly. Tom Brady Jj Watt et al are prime pro examples.

If Rolo went after Ta’amu he would have had 3 Jr quarterbacks which is poor planning for 2018. Further, Ta’amu was able to do well at Ole Miss, no guarantee that he would have been able to do that here with the 2017 supporting cast. If you think you spilled milk, wipe it up and move on.

I’m not against Ta’amu … but we already had picked up two juco quarterbacks (Brown & Brownholtz) the summer before Jordan’s sophomore season. We only had the numbers to focus on a freshman QB recruit when Jordan was on the market. Furthermore, given the P-5 interest he was getting, he might not have been interested in UH which already had a strong first year performance by Dru Brown. Finally, did Jordan have the grades for the UH … like it or not, it is harder to be accepted to UH than most SEC schools … big names because of great sports teams doesn’t make schools academically superior to UH. )

Not to mention Tomey also “blowing it” with Kurt Gouveia, Lakei Heimuli, Ladd Akeo, Thor Salanoa…… June Jones with Jordan Dizon, who started for 4 seasons at CU, (the new GA sent to Kauai to recruit Dson, got lost there). The list goes on.
Good to have a UH QB that can run and pass too, like Milton and Hurts. LIke McDonald and hopefully Cordeiro. Dru can run too, but was he limited this past season by the staff ?
Old School Dave…I get what you are saying with your analogy. And I agree Tomey did miss out on Ola, but as to both Ladd and Thor, I’m not sure if they could have cracked our lineup back then…. we were super deep at linebacker, with Alvis, ML Johnson, John Taylor, Anthony Woodson, James Elias….most of those guys all ended up playing professionally.
Rolo pretty much turned down Ta’amu. He make inquiries with the UH coaching staff said thanks but no thanks. Rolo is going to roll with Brown no matter who shines in camp. Sort of Chow like.
Uhhh… Mr. Boola….appreciate your insights as a former player but didn’t Ladd Akeo and BYU smoke Hawaii’s butt every year he was there? I think it was 1983 to 86. BYU won the national title in 84. To say he wouldn’t have even cracked the starting lineup at UH, when his team killed yours, and then went on to win a national championship, is a bit of a stretch, no?
The offense needs serious overhaul, averaged only 18.9 pts in the MW conference games, 2nd to last of the 12 teams. What are the reasons ? It starts with the QB making the plays more consistently. Didn’t say he didn’t make some plays.

#29, with all due respect, Ladd did not start any games during their National Chaampionship run, mostly special teams, and was a part-time starter in 85 and 86. While certainly their teams were better, Noga, Taylor, Johnson, all played on Sundays, and Anthony and Alvis were in the CFL, I think it’s safe to say, from a position basis, there were no certainty that he would have leap frogged over any of those guys…..
Lutu was UW-bound and even a full-court press at Washington Place (by the Guv) couldn’t sway him to stay home.

34–You are correct. If I am not mistaken, they played in back to back Rose Bowl games, in 81 and 82, and then played in the first two Aloha Bowls.
Passing over Kurt Gouveia will remain the ultimate recruiting blunder by UH IMHO. Toney has also stated this, regretfully. Gouveia wanted to be a Warrior, but was evaluated as being too slow as a DB. UH didn’t factor in the athlete in him and putting on 30 lbs down the road. The BYU DC at the time Fred Whittingham came to Waianae HS to sign Kurt, as I recall.
Believe that Ladd Akeo played his freshman year at Cal, before transferring to Provo.
But, that’s life. Mistakes are made and you move on (all parties).
Dru Brown will learn from this past season. I’m sure the entire team will do the same. Rolo and his staff and players are taking action to not repeat 2017.

Na Alii Pride: Ladd initially signed with Cal as a freshman (Joe Kapp was the HC?), but transferred to BYU after his first year at Berkeley. Gee, that was back in the 80s. Getting old, yeah?
40…Yup, you are indeed correct. John Haina, my old neighbor, and former Alii, yes he went to Aiea HS, before transferring to KS, was a large factor in his decision to initially select CAL.

43….never heard that story or rumor. I do know that despite transferring from Oklahoma to UCLA, Barry Switzer was quite helpful to get him to a program that emphasized the pass than the previous option team at OU, and he made affirmative arrangements for him to play for Terry Donahue.

I think it (Aikman’s purported interest in transferring here) was an urban legend. It had something to do with Hawaii having a solid quarterback in Gregg Tipton. We heard it from a friend, who had heard it from an Uncle who……. well you know it goes. At least that’s the way I recall the story.
In an interview, Milton said he would wait and see in the spring what kind of offense the new UCF coach will use. I assume if he doesn’t care for it much, he could transfer somewhere.
