Water Polo: Barr named second-team All-American
University of Hawaii sophomore Chloe Barr led a group of four Rainbow Wahine players named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American teams on Friday.
Barr, the Big West Player of the Year, made the All-America second team after scoring a league-high 52 goals. She closed the season by scoring five goals in three matches at the NCAA championships.
UH senior Zoe Respondek, junior Paula Chillida Esforzado and sophomore Claire Nixon were honorable mention picks.
Chillida Esforzado, a third-team All-American last year, finished the season second on the team with 43 goals and Nixon added 35. Respondek contributed 14 goals and was a catalyst for the Wahine offense as well as one of UH’s top defenders.
UH went 19-10 this spring and captured its second Big West championship in the last three years. The Wahine then placed seventh at the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship.
