Avis has picked sjmacro as winner of four tickets to Saturday’s baseball game. Congrats.

Avis selects 808DuckFan as the winner of two tickets to tomorrow’s baseball game. Please text me at 256-0223 or e-mail at sighdude@gmail.com with the name to leave at Will Call.

Also Bob is the winner of the Colt Brennan-autographed Washington D.C. snow globe. Send me your name and address to the same locations above and I’ll have midori7 send you the prize. (Now, all I have to do is ask Midori7).

Thanks for playing.

Word on the boulevard is UH has shown strong interest in Word of Life defensive end Juda Parker (6-2, 235, junior). Parker will be essentially a free agent in June, when Word of LIfe closes down. It should be interesting to see where he attends for his senior year.

    Good Morning All

    Re Iosefa at RB

Listening to BC with Coach Mac this morning talking about Joey.
He arrived at 195 and is now at 245.
He’s been working out a lot and one of the example Coach Mack sited was Joey had Chauncy(330lbs) on his shoulder and was able to “run-sprint” up a hill.
Like his potential of also having RB pass option along with blocking and power running since he played QB in HS..
Wish I could be there for practise.

    Morning All!

    Looking forward to their performances.

Jade Vorster seems like such a perfect fit for the Wahine program it’s seems too good to be true. I’m not talking about volleyball skills or abilities, but just the right attitude to fit in right here.

Looking forward to seeing her LOI faxed in and adding to the Wahine lineup in two seasons!!!

    Good morning everyone!

No baseball for me this Saturday too. I’ll be attending the housewarming party for the principal of the karaoke service provider group I keep talking about. Kinda like Allan Amazaki at KikuHana in Vegas last September, only 6 times larger. She says they are setting up. No way their equipment fits inside a house. Might be my first residential block party! 🙂

Suh-weet!! Thanks for the tix – I loves me some baseball! Hope you feel better Avis!

@ chopsueyboy – I’m a local girl who grad from the U of O and am a big-time Ducks fan. I’ve gone back a few times to watch them at Autzen and was there in 2007 to watch Mark Sanchez and the $C Trojans lose on a last-minute pick by Matthew Harper. Good times!

@ Kekoa – No, he’s not the chosen one, SHE’S the chosen one! =)

    Go Ducks and Warriors!

  36. Pomai April 8, 2010 9:36 am

It just seems wrong for a Duck fan to win UH baseball tickets.j/k

  37. 808DuckFan April 8, 2010 9:37 am

  39. BigIslandkurt April 8, 2010 10:29 am

Yeehaaaa. Just got to check out the practice photos in today’s article. I particularly liked that photo of Moniz getting cracked! Seems like practice is more live than ever! I know we gotta protect the QB’s from injury and most of the time, that orange jersey gonna keep them nice and clean. But every now and then, you just gotta go LIVE.

NCAA HR record in Wahine cross-hairs?

yeah, yeah, I know, our Wahine just shattered the WAC HR season mark in record time with at least 14-games more to go–8 in the HR friendly skies of the high Sierras (including the WAC T). Especially since the wahine are averaging over 4 per game above the timberline.
As Sarah Palin exhorts to her fellow Tea Party members, “It’s time to reload and zero-in your crosshairs for another target in 2010”. For the Wahine, that aim maybe directed at the NCAA,126 HR record set by Arizona in 2001.

Bob Coolen might say “we are just playing one game at a time and focused on the regular season Conference Title, I dont plan for collateral consequences”.
“Setting records are by-products of an almighty scheme, Im just happy to see my team make contact with the ball”.

    Ok, Coach–we get your drift.
But with 89 HRs on the books, one cant help but seeing only 37 bottles of cheer, left on the wall.
I agree with Coach Coolen and we fans shall remain with one eye on the Title and the other….askance at the wall. 🙂

  50. SteveM April 8, 2010 12:16 pm

Are you planning to attend any UH Warrior road game this year?

If so, please post on the blog or email me. This is only tentative info so others can see who else might be attending a given game. The usual logistics/activity page is up at…

    http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/away10.html

Don Weir’s preliminary activity info is included too. Note sure of the Army game tour package availability as of today, but it is posted for reference.

  51. Kazz April 8, 2010 12:22 pm

If there is any coach that says what he means, it’s gotta be Coach Coolen. I mean, one cannot assume what another individual is thinking but a WAC Championship and a secured berth into the NCAAs is worth trading in those records to him.

37 more HRs??? Not sure about that, it would take a lot, a WHOLE lot. We’ve got the “teeth” of the WAC conference still ahead of us. Anything can happen in Boise, good or bad, plus got some aces in Krieg, Holverson, and Melloh to deal with one after the other soon. The WAC tourney is in Las Cruces, and as many excuse-makers claim, the Wahine return to high elevation where homers are supposedly “easier to come by”…. Well, that’s debatable… I doubt thin air makes one see the ball better to even make contact, not to mention the oodles of homers the Wahine smashed at lower elevation prior to this road trip!!! 😆

  52. Kazz April 8, 2010 12:24 pm

    BTW,

I knew our softball field is shorter comapared to others, BUT when some say Boise State has the shortest field in the WAC at 200 feet from home to the wall all around, I couldn’t help but think: “OURS IS 200 FEET ALSO”.

  57. d1島 April 8, 2010 1:09 pm

One trip to the NC game and Butler signs coach to a 12-year deal.

    Coach Gib,

    Get the hint? 😉

  58. Ralph April 8, 2010 1:18 pm

but it took Nash 3 full seasons to win one more game than he did in one at Butler.

  59. mailepua April 8, 2010 1:22 pm

I cant recall this season hitting 22 HRs in 5 games @ WSS or 4 per game.
That’s the number of HRs we just banged in Las Cruces and Logan. “Lighter-air” venues. Granted too, the pitching was bottom-tier WAC, making it an ideal compustible brew for fence-busting. At this point in our schedule the NCAA record is not as overwhelming for the wahine as its process of thought in the compresion of a seasons end.

If the Broncs slam the brakes abruptly on our 4 per game average in Boise, the notion evaporates as quickly as its mention. If not, we have a three-game series remaining in Reno and two or more games in a return appearance to Las Cruces for the WAC Tournament.
The series in Boise should be fun to follow, for standings or to notch a memory in NCAA history. Ill take either one, but they need not be mutually exclusive.

  60. Slugger April 8, 2010 1:26 pm

    Kazz,

#14, I’ll buy tickets for everyone to the next SoftBows game! April 16th ~ La Tech. So proud of them winning that DH in freezing Utah.

  61. Ralph April 8, 2010 1:36 pm

Ginger Long, Maui-Kamehameha, Jr., committed to UH Na Wahine for 2011, but I think she is asked to walk on, no scholarships available with Croson, Stauber and Vorster coming in.

  62. Ralph April 8, 2010 1:49 pm

anyone know the # of scholarships for Na Wahine:
On Roster I think the following are on scholarship for 2010; Tuaniga, Hewitt, Danielson, Cascioppo, Kaaihue, Forsythe and Mafua (7), Ferrell scholie vacant. Next year grad class include Kaaihue and Mafua, but Croson, Vorster and Stauber were offerred and committed to Na Wahine for 2011. So I’m thinking Shoji is saving Ferrell’s scholie for Vorster. Twelve scholarship in any given year. That means Ginger Long is a walk on, and Satele could be given a scholie this year but that scholie goes to Vorster in 2011. Can someone give me the scoop, who is on, who is out.

Cinnamon Sary, like Jade Vorster, made unofficial visit to UH. Sary is a 5’9″ setter for Newport Harbor, they beat Los Alamitos with Emily Hartong and Jane Croson for the CIF D1 Championship this past season. She is a 15 year old sophomore, therefore class of 2012.

  69. Kazz April 8, 2010 2:09 pm

    808 DuckFan ~

I stand corrected Lady Duck, you are indeed, the Chosen One! Are there any ducklings in da hale?

I’m looking forward to meeting you at our *practice* tail-gate on Saturday, April 17th.

Like my fellow Tsaiko’s, you’ll enjoy sampling some of our delicious menu treats. Like Roast Duck, or Duck L’orange, served with Ritz Quakers Crackers.

I’m also ready to hear more Duck Tales from da Trails!

  77. Tsaiko-Therapist April 8, 2010 4:12 pm

Hi fellow Warrior fans. I am new to the blog, Calvin from Kona informed me of the Tsaiko’s, and had to check it out. Hope to meet some of you soon though I have met Midori7, who by the way makes the best little brownies I have ever “fought over”. By the way, I am a psychotherapist, hence the name.

  78. d1島 April 8, 2010 4:33 pm

    heheheh

Third – Aside from Homey I didn’t mention any other names of who needs therapy…James is a little self-concious I think

and finally – no comment to Kekoa’s comment about Homey being my motivation for attending t-gates

what is this practice tailgate and where will it be held it?

  108. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc April 8, 2010 6:48 pm

Two additional reasons for putting April 17th in your date books:

The Warriors will hold a practice starting at 3 pm – not sure if on the grass or at Ching Field

    and

Na Wahine will be back on their home field playing a double-header with LaTech starting at 4 pm.

    BOTH ARE FREE!!!

  109. Kazz April 8, 2010 6:50 pm

    Diesel,

Did you change your e-mail? Could you send me your current one at tsaikotailgate (at) gmail (dot) com?

It’s gonna be at Richardson Field CABANA #5 (i.e. the original spot from 2007) next weekend on April 17th.

I’ve been all over the place and I’m guilty of not paying attention lately but I JUST got off the phone with BG trying to catch up with everything.

  110. kapakahi April 8, 2010 7:01 pm

In addition to Juda, hopefully Warriors also showing (and acting with) strong interest with other soon-to-be former WOL players….OT Paulay Asiata & OG Harrison Kanehailua.

  111. kapakahi April 8, 2010 7:03 pm

UH’s upcoming Junior Day (scheduled for Saturday, April 17) on-campus should be interesting.

Hopefully Coach Mack and UH show and act with strong interest with the top local junior prospects.

I got no email from you (do I need one since I know where?) anyway… calvinpdx@hotmail.com

  113. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc April 8, 2010 7:16 pm

    Kazz:

Please re-send the information about the April 17 location with a map or photo. I can’t seem to find your original e-mail, but I recall that the location was not in the park next to Kamehameha Highway but much closer to the water and well beyond where we’re had the T-Gates for the past couple of years in a “pearlridge” direction.

I remember studying the aerial photo because I was trying to figure out how to get there from the closest bus stop and what I could bring along with me that wouldn’t spill or spoil.

Is anyone coming from Kailua or could anyone pick me up in downtown Honolulu? I’ll ask again next week.

Protector is giving me a ride up to UH for the practice followed by the double-header. DrDoc will join us for the second game.

    Back to work …………………….

  114. Calvin from Kona April 8, 2010 7:18 pm

    Al,

Nope. I don’t watch KHON. Just got a new TV for da HD and only Hawaii News Now looks good enough to watch.

A few weeks ago Brooks Baehr did a piece on Majam approaching the home run record though.

Seems like everyone else is just catching up to what the softball team is doing…

It’s like that old saying goes: “OH, YOU DIDN’T KNOW??? YOUR A _ _ BETTAH CALL SOMEBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Good evening Tsaiko Nation, next Saturday the 17th of April I will be taking a bus load of South Central inner city children to the flower / plant festival up in Santa Monica Mountains at the infamous Paramount Ranch.

We will be joined by many other youth organizations as we will be planting fruit trees, flowers and assorted plants. The area is vastly in
need of beautification and our efforts for the day will bring a large
contigent of visitors locally and nationally to see a garden of eden.

I am asking any of you good folks of Hawaii Nei that you may send me seeds of any plants, orchids or fruit so that we may plant some Hawaii
beauty to add to this open acre land of harvest plants, fruits and flowers of Gods green pastures.

Please mail to Cliff Sanchez, Al Wooten Center / 9106 S Western Avenue / Los Angeles, California (90047)

The Flower and Plant festival is next Saturday as your Kokua is appreciated !

I’m bringing salad to the T-Gate. Gotta keep you guys healthy!

On the KFVE news, Stephanie L. said they’re searching for Lani Moo. She must be REALLY OLD, since the last time I saw her I was a leetle keed.

  124. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc April 8, 2010 8:31 pm

    SteveM:

Mahalo for the photo. Although the site is fairly close to the bus stop, there are no openings in the fence so I would have to walk down the little hill, along the various parking lots and then up the hill we normally exit by foot to cross over the highway to the Stadium, and then go back a couple of hundred feet. Don’t mind the walk – that’s not the problem – it’s carrying a chair plus food to share plus my backpack.

Hawai‘i at Bosie State Series Information

    What: Hawai‘i (30-11, 8-0 WAC) at Boise State (15-22, 4-2 WAC)

    When: Fri., Apr. 9 at 3:00 p.m.; Sat., Apr. 10 at 1:00 p.m. (DH)

Where: Mountain Cove Softball Field (Boise, Idaho)

    LiveStats: Available at broncosports.com

Radio: All three games will be broadcast via broncosports.com

Coaches: Bob Coolen (UH: 697-423-1/Overall: 769-516-1) is in his 19th year at UH.

Boise State’s Erin Thorpe is in her third season at BSU, and the Broncos are in their second full DI season. She has a 36-51 record.

Series Information: UH has won all four meetings against Boise State. Last season, the ‘Bows swept the Broncos in Honolulu and also won their game in the 2009 WAC Tournament.

    Scouting the Boise State Broncos

    2010 RECORD: Overall 15-22/ WAC: 4-2

Boise State enters this series tied for second place in the WAC with a 4-2 record. The Broncos swept New Mexico State to open their conference season and took one of three at Fresno State last week. Head coach, Erin Thorpe is in her third season at BSU, and the Broncos are in their second full DI season. She has a 36-51 record.

    Offense…

Boise State’s offense is hitting a solid .267 as a team and has a combined 38 stolen bases this year. Pre-season All-WAC catcher, Kathy Cox, is having a strong senior season, leading the Broncos with a .342 average (38-for-111). Cox also has team-highs in hits (38), runs (27), home runs (14), and RBI. Jessi Hanna is second on the team in average (.313), runs (23), hits (30), home runs (4), RBI (18) and she leads BSU with six doubles. Look out for Kellie Calplan who leads the team with nine stolen bases and Christin Capobianco, who comes through in the clutch with 18 RBI on the season.

    Pitching…

The Bronco pitching staff has performed well through the first two weeks of WAC action. As a team, the Broncos have a conference-low 2.10 ERA, with Aubray Zell leading the way with a 0.50 ERA. The Broncos’ combination of Zell and Allie Crump has proved to be a potent duo. Zell is 5-6 on the season with a 3.66 ERA in 67.0 innings pitched. She has 11 walks and 36 strike outs. Zell is 2-0 in WAC competition with one shut-out in 14.0 innings pitched. Crump has a 3.95 ERA and has thrown 99.1 innings overall and in conference, is 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA with a team high 14 strike outs

To me, we face another base stealing-type team again. While we’ve lost the series to CAL 2-1, the losses came at our hands of errors as opposed to a running threat and SJSU wasn’t the base stealing machine as previously thought.

However, what strikes me are the errors. 56 as a team for Boise State. Infielder Jessi Hanna leads the team in errors at 11. This plays in our favor, but not by much, as the Broncos have had 12 errors in WAC games and opponents have yielded 13. However, as obviously noted the Broncos are 4-2 in the conference.

The Broncos don’t appear to be a team that can come back from being behind even from the first inning and at the same token opponents have NOT come back to defeat the Broncos after BSU leads from ANY inning.

By compairson, we have controlled our errors in WAC play somewhat. The opening game against SJSU was not pretty. In conference we have had 9 errors and tied with BSU for 56 errors all season long. In conference our opponents have yielded us 14 errors.

While I could not find any statistics on how we do when trailing or leading and such, we’ve seen the Wahine come back and take games away this season.

BSU is still a young program prone to errors and the mental toughness of the Broncos will be tested tomorrow and Saturday.

Earlier I wrote how the pitching wasn’t going to be a handicap to us in conference. Stephanie Ricketts has been everything I hope she’d be for us in WAC play and I remain STRONG in believing she IS a key component in winning the WAC while Parnaby will support her. Many have been high on Parnaby over Ricketts, but nothing beats “being there before” and while Parnaby is a deeply experienced freshman, Ricketts is truly our ACE.

Ricketts should get two of the three games as Parnaby had a rough outing in our 18-8 rout over USU.

For offense, just keep pounding it. Boise State’s field is one of the smaller in the WAC, like ours it’s 200 feet from home to the fence all the way around and even in the alleys and the Wahine should feel “at home” in that sense.

Not to be outdone, BSU has had a great start to the WAC season and even taking a game from FSU in Fresno.

Momentum and talent is on our side. However, I think Boise State wants it that way just to try to steal it away.

    Keys to the series:
    -***Pitching***
-Continued contribution from Taualii and Grimes.

    Threats to the series:
    -Errors
    -***Pitching***

    Prediction:

    Game 1:
    Wahine 9
    BSU 4

    Game 2:
    Wahine 11
    BSU 5

    Game 3:
    Wahine 14
    BSU 3

Below is the State Senate’s proposed CIP budget for Aloha Stadium and UH Manoa Department of Athletics facilities. Will do the State House’s proposed budget tomorrow.

The two are in major disagreement on the overall budget, but I suspect that there will far less disagreement on the construction side of the upcoming budget because it will “stimulate the economy” and can be paid off over an extended period of time.

However, if there are significant differences, I strongly urge that you contact your own legislators and ask them to do the right thing

    ALOHA STADIUM

Is the 520 K mainly to design / make the plans for it along w/ the razing of Klum?
I take it that later on down the line more funds will be needed for the actual construction?

  149. protector April 9, 2010 5:53 am

    Loa on #147,

I’m right there with you on the memories. Remember walking in as a freshman with 7 potential schedules of courses then ripping them up because all the courses were gone and walking around to see what few courses were still open. That was the only bad memory of Klum. VB memories were all golden.

    Colt
First time he’s been healthy while in this league. Helps his confidence. Excited about the future. Can’t wait to get back on the field. Mini-camp starts next friday. New coaching staff allows them to have additional practices. Jason told him that he wants to be traded to somewhere he can start.
Mentality of Duke Snyder is to stack the team and everyone has a shot to prove themselves. If Colt can show the new staff he’s better, it doesn’t matter about the “big” names that was brought in

Maybe you have heard of a item named console toolkit? I discovered its website last night where these people say this kit includes just about all tools needed to open up every single videogame unit on the market?? I am uncertain if this is true or fake. If it’s true could possibly be handy for me because both my nintendo wii and xbox 360 dvd drives doesn’t work anymore and there appears to be quite odd screws on both of these products.

I can live without mp3 torrents I like game torrents more. therefore I mostly hang out at http://www.games-iso.com well, only if you want the latest games of course.
