Billy Ray Stutzmann’s injury is disappointing for the Warriors and himself.
He will undergo surgery today to repair a fractured left hand. He is expected to miss about six weeks.
Stutzmann is the Warriors’ most versatile receiver. His primary position is the X (on the single side), but he also can play on the strong side and in the slot. He is on special teams, too.
Stutzmann spent the offseason training at Tactical Strength, where Kealoha Pilares went from being a good college receiver to an NFL player. Stutzmann gained 15 pounds while maintaining his speed. Head coach Norm Chow said Stutzmann was adjusting to the bump-and-run press coverages he faced every day in practice.
Trevor Davis and Chris Gant will get the first shot at X.
Chow said he will move slotback Corey Paclebar to the X. Chow said Chinedu Amadi also will get a look there.

Yea, the commentators didn’t notice that he Harding kicked with his left foot the first time. They were too focused on USC expecting a long return. UH did a good job on punt coverage. Harding did a good rolling to the right on the first few punts, then when USC figured it out, rolled to the left.

I once coached a soccer player who kicked for a football team. On a bad snap, he was running for his life after chasing down the ball, then got the punt off with his left foot. Maybe it was because of the different spin with a left foot kick, but the other team fumbled the punt and we recovered.
How did this injury happen?
Heh. Only when I say “good morning” in Japanese/Nihongo, and the truncated version at that 8|.

He was going for a pass while being defended by Edwards. But it wasn’t from being hit or landing awkwardly. I guess sometimes things happen.

If you know of well-educated professionals in the fields of business, auditing & accounting who are also committed to the long-term future of University of Hawai`i`s positive participation in NCAA Div 1-A sports, then let the BOR’s Executive Administrator Keith Amemiya or Chair Eric Martinson know.
The task force report will be submitted at the October 18 meeting and will be available to the general public.

Well we need to recruit WRS next year , some big tall, tough ones like salas….hope stuzmen gets back in soon… I saw on rivals .com in the recruiting front page… a section about recruiting troubles of norm chow in hawaii…the guy writing it makes it seem like Hawaii will never be able to recruit well in Hawaii, and that most players turn away from UH …he doesnt realize that we got a couple 3 star guys from the islands that turned down big name schools and some from the mainland as well, a four star QB next year lined up too… he made me mad because the article kind of seems like hes dissing chow, hawaii football and UH big time on a national stage that recruits look at …possibly turning some recruits away….
Anyway There is no comment area maybe ST can contact him and give him some scoops on our recruitin cause the guy is missing somoe info there… he also makes chow seem like he cant recruit which is BS..
Watching the introductions yesterday, it sort of tells you that just because you go to a “big name” school you’re guaranteed a place in the NFL. The intro of the players showed that a whole lot of those guys came from “directional” schools and small schools. The point being, if you’re that good, it does not make a difference where you’re playing. The scouts will find you and you will have that opportunity to play.
It really boils down the the individual (his work ethic, natural talent and ability to learn and perform). That being said, coaching and teaching both on and off the field are big contributors to the development of a player.
It would be terrific to get the 4 or 5 star HS player, but if we secure our share of these talented, somewhat raw, individuals with tremendous up side to develop with proper teaching, we’ll be just fine.
I have to believe that we now have terrific teaching coaches.
I think Salas was a Defensive Back in high school and was recruited as such but was asked to switch to slot because JJ saw something special in him.

Got to make like Boise and try to get as many players on the field as possible each and every game. This may impact recruiting as the recruit will know that they will have several opportunities to shine under the lights.

A recent article on Chow and UH’s unique recruiting challenges. It’s nothing new per se. But the 2nd Chance U thing is not really a joke. It sounds like it will be part of the foundation of our recruiting efforts.
I don’t see a problem with that so long we can get kids that will take their 2nd chance seriously.

Second chances are great motivators. I’m glad UH is known for that. Mike Edwards could be our next Davone Bess. Praying for all our Warriors and the challenges they face every day.
For players that leave for the mainland, they either get homesick or they aren’t getting enough playing time. Go to bigger schools means a bigger talent pool and tougher competition.
Just had to share and no wise cracks about middle campus cause could be any place. Wait take that back last sentence says educators so that leaves some out bwhaaaaaa.
A private school recently was faced with a unique problem.
A number of girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.
Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day, the girls would put them back.
Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man.
She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the maintenance man who had to clean the mirrors every night.
To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required.
He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it.
Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

If you a member of UH BOR, I do not believe that having great influence amongst the general public will be of any benefit to any decision made by the BOR affecting UH and UH-system at large including UH-Hilo, West Oahu, and the community colleges. Yes, there may be or will be a “ripple effect” that may affect the State; ie. who will be the next UHAD. But a decision to “advance $18 million to West Oahu or increase tuition affects only UH-system.
Having great influential prowess would be most benfical for politicians who seek office at any level.

Alex Dunnachie has expressed remorse for his moment of bad decision. He is working his tail off and Coach Chow has noticed this. I think we should leave it in the hands of Coach as to when AD will get back into the game and not be backseat drivers regarding the punter’s position. I have trust in Coach Chow.

But, not wanting to risk anything slanderous since I don’t personally know several of the parties involved, I’ll keep it to myself for now.

Just out of curiosity, since you’re a retired Colonel, would you say the education level (Masters or PhD) along with the ability to influence plays a strong role in a person being promoted to a higher rank such as Colonel or General, as well as attributing to one’s military success?
I think, in my opinion, influence – a result of being an effective communicator – can apply to other areas besides just politics.
It would be a honor to meet in person at the local strip club to discuss further. <–Joke!

It’s adorable how the article blazes over his most recent success at Utah by saying nothing but;
“Chow then went to Utah in 2011 where an early-season injury to veteran quarterback Jordan Wynn severely hampered his offense’s capabilities. He then took the Hawai’i job for 2012”
The article doesn’t talk about how after the 4th game of the season his starting QB Wynn was injured and had to sit out the rest of the season. Chow then lead the team to an 8-5 season, including a bowl win against Georgia Tech all the while it being their FIRST season in the PAC-12 conference.
It doesn’t even go into how Neuheisel forced Chow to run the Pistol offense. Chow has said over and over again in his interviews that he is willing to adapt the offense to the strengths of his players. Is this philosophy something brand spanking new? At UCLA they ran the pistol, then ran the pistol, then ran it some more all because Rick was “enamored” with the pistol. It was never about unleashing Chow at UCLA. It was about Rick wanting to be the man. I mean Rick talks more about Chris Ault than he does his own OC Norm Chow whenever he talks about UCLA’s offense.

I don’t agree with Manoa #1 on many things but I do admit that he was correct in his observation of Miah. He played like the leader of the Warriors. The guy took some big hits but bounced up and kept playing hard.
I don’t think production would dip if Miah played in Stuz’s place as he heals up. That young man showed up BIG.

#92 – I am humbled by your remark.
A higher degree, IMHO, is glazing over your military record. For example, today’s Army does have a “wish” that any LTC being considered for COL should have a MA degree – note I said “should have”. I do know that the Army wants that to be the MINIMUM advance educaitonal degree for consideration for COL.
Experience wise, a LTC or higher should be considered the equivilant positon of VP in a commerical enterprise. Many businesses seek out the retired COLs or GENs for higher VP positions because of their varied experiences of “command” and “staff” positions held giving them a huge edge in planning and execution of any task. This is the very reason that any employer looking for new hires should look at the thousands of young men and women who have held any kind of leadership position(s); even at the squad leader level.
The very best thing about the US military is the availability of education, training and opportunities for leadership positions; they have definitive programs one must attain to be considered for promotion. In the Army, “branch school” for promotion up to Captain; “command and staff” to Major and LTC; and Army War College for COL and above. Department of Defense guide is any officer completing a War College program should be awarded 21 “master degree” credits; thus, one only needs to complete 3 3 credit courses to attain the 30 credits for a Masters degree.
The training we received at the Ary War College was equivilant to being a “national advisor” to the Chiefs of Staff or President – our research and presentation was based on this requirement. For example, the area of interest is Sub-Saharan Africa and we are tasked to make recommendations to the President on many areas of interest including humanitarian and militray objectives/goals and how to obtain these including the use of weapons of mass destruction.
I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to be part of a Corps intelligence and operations sections as well as a tour in the Comptrollers Office, the Inspector General, and command of a special unit with more full “birds” and sergeant majors than an active Army Division.
Yes, it’s nice to be a MA or PHD, but it would be very difficult for them to have the experiences of the many men and women who had the non-leadrship or leadership opportunities be it on “active duty” or “reserve status”.

In 2008, like this year, we had a first time coach opening the season on the road against the then #1 team in the nation. In 2008 we lost 56-10, this season we lost, 49-10. Yet, this time around, our Warriors didn’t look beaten and down trodden towards the end of the game. They looked like they were still raring to go late in the 4th qtr. This team wants to play football and won’t let the score discourage them. First the attitude, then comes the swagger.

Great to hear upbeat news about StutzII, but let’s not forget the reality of the situation. The guy has a plate and screws in his hand. He is a receiver. Even if he heals faster than expected, he may still have a lot of discomfort and strength issues to deal with after.
Don’t rush it young man. Get yourself completely healthy. I am excited to see who will step up. Somebody will.
I have a feeling that a receiver or two will excite us in BRS’s absence, making his return later in the season icing on the cake.

Play only among themselves create a playoff and create new formats that will make it an exciting product to watch. Don’t allow the 60 super money schools use the 60 non super money schools to their advantage. What happens in doing this only acknowledges that who is the power and who is not. Do not give them the opportunity to compare directly.
The 80/20 rule will result and interest will be equal. Only difference is the amount of money and TV audience in certain school’s area. The 60 non super money schools must stick together so one day their prestige maybe just a shade below if not equal to the 60 super money schools.
The 80/20 rule of math will be the equalizer over time for the 60 non super money schools. Comparisons will always be made but cannot be to detrimental to the 60 non super money schools because there will be no direct comparison because they will not play one another. The 60 non super money schools can create success and survive being in control and not being used.

Kevin and kev-1: interesting discussion re Jawaiian music. I’m not a big fan myself, but I’m not sure I understand the disdain for it. If you think that it just hasn’t been done WELL, then okay. I disagree to a point, but that’s a matter of personal taste.
But if the argument is that the music isn’t authentic because reggae isn’t Hawaiian, then I would definitely disagree. The power and grandeur of music springs directly from its ability to cross cultural and linguistic barriers to speak directly to the human condition. Eric Clapton was just some British kid when he stated playing Black American slave music, which is exactly what the Blues was/is if you go back to its roots.
So anyway, I honestly think this clip is just about the best thing I have ever seen on YouTube. I have no idea what this song is about — they could be singing about soggy fruit loops for all I know — but I swear I do not know of a better female singer/belter than this lady and this dude is an incredible rapper — and I pretty much have ZERO use for any rap.
You gotta play this clip LOUD so that the bass line can synchronize with your pulse rate and the horns can mainline your pleasure center. And you also gotta stick with this clip because your initial inclination may be to click the back button because it seems so foreign (which it is).
But, if you play it long and you play it loud, you WILL find your head bobbing in time somewhere in between the third and fourth minute. If not, if your foot isn’t jabbing along to that monstrous bass line, if you aren’t having the urge to leap up out of your chair and do back flips all over the room, well, you better check your pulse because you just may be dead.

Jawaiian has become its own genre and my beef has nothing to do with what is considered “Hawaiian”.
Hawaii had a great musical history with the old groups I mentioned and every one of them had their “sound”. Today…. no one sticks out.
Their musicality is fine. Its ok to listen to, but there are 0 differences between any of these groups and
too many cover songs that come off as lazy.

more better UH go get its AD asap, sujpport Chow to keepa going and getting the Warriors into believing in ourselves, play outstanding football, get Hawaii to buy into Hawaii football. We can do better doing good for us.
A AD, like Rockne, with a great football team, could make deals in filling Aloha Stadium with quality teams. USC, BYU, UW, ORE St, ND, come to mind. also, taking different UH teams to play on outer islands against other UH system teams, at least try to break even. showcase UH-M, reward players.

re: INDEPENDENT THINKER……how about doing some independent research instead of insinuating in your comments that N.C. was not effective after he left USC because 1. he and Jeff Fisher campaigned very hard to get Matt Leinart whom Chow as most familiar with in working with him at USC but the Tennessee Titans owner, Bud Adams or whatever his name is, wanted to go with a Heisman Winner in Vince Young, and the results were disastrous…even Chow remarked that it would be difficult to rein in V.Y. into a pro-set offense esp. into a pocket Q.B. and he was so right….2. at UCLA, all of the top Q.B.’s unfortunately got injured and then Neuheisel switched to a pistol offense emphasizing the running game and never gave N.C. the opportunity to open up the offense….3. at Utah, even with the top Q.B. injured, N.C. was able to navigate the Utah offense into being a productive attack and his play-calling in the bowl game was outstanding which led to Utah’s victory.
Unfortunately, INDEPENDENT THINKER lets his emotions get the better of his reasoning and comes out looking like an IDIOT.
