Mo football
Former UH quarterback Bryant Moniz told the Star-Advertiser he has reached agreement on an two-year contract with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
Moniz reports to camp on May 28.
Calgary’s first exhibition game is June 14.
Details of the contract were not released, but the CFL minimum is $50,000 per year.

While being recruited, Saint Louis School senior Devan Stubblefield received post-card sized letters from the UH football coaches.
Some letters were detailed. Some congratulated him on a recent game. Some were just how’s-it-going notes. Some days there were two dozen letters in his mailbox. Stubblefield collected the letters. Many are stored in a shoebox in his room.
Stubblefield said the letters were helpful in his decision to sign with the Rainbow Warriors this past February.
Offensive lineman Eperone Moananu recently displayed the cards he received from the Warriors. Moananu has made an oral commitment to play for the Warriors in 2015.
The UH coaches utilize the social-media networks to communicate. But they also rely on the old-school method of notes — all hand-written — to show interest in a prospect.
“I liked it,” Stubblefield said.

Last contribution I made to a UH team I received a post card note from Mr,Bad Apple. I wrote on it ” Refused” and put back in the mail.
me thinks the NCAA got to act like they doing something so…..they investigate…anything …without a clue….but when they stumble across something…they go to make a big deal out of it to justify their being.

See a doctor ST. Vertigo can be serious.
ST, I had vertigo and it lasted for years…..lots of bad things happened. You can’t drive. Insurance won’t cover you….etc. Finally, someone recommended Dr. Franklin Yamamoto. He’s the best. I don’t know if he still practices but wow. I was cured after one month and it hasn’t returned in 15 years.
If you have vertigo, we can trade funny stories….well they’re only funny now….
Still gotta love the old school written letters/notes. It’s just more sincere than anything digital. What’s written on the note doesn’t matter that much, it’s the time and effort to put pen to paper that counts.

At the MWC meetings last year, I asked the commish if UH’s status was in jeopard if BYU were to re-join the league. He said UH would be OK, citing, of course, the travel subsidies UH not taking a cut of the TV package. In other words, UH should be OK as long as it doesn’t bitch about the travel subsidies and not getting a cut of the TV money.
I really think UH should try to bring all its sports into the MWC. It’s always better to have all the proverbial eggs in one basket.

ST: take care. A friend of mine had problems with vertigo. He could not do much for several days. He said he even had to crawl to the bathroom.
ST, go see a physical therapist who treats vertigo (BPPV). Fysiotherapie in Kaimuki is excellent. They rehab a lot of athletes.

They say UH would be ok with its membership status if BYU rejoined the league, but if BYU hypothetically was to say they would come back to the conference IF MWC got rid of Hawaii. Pretty sure UH would be gone in a heartbeat.

Don’t forget, if Hawaii is kicked out of the MWC then the MWC is kicked out of the Aloha Bowl. That is still a good consolation prize for many teams that want a Christmas present on the beach in Waikiki.

Not necessarily. UH would obviously be an independent since no conference would want them so not like the Hawaii bowl could follow Hawaii to a new conference. Plus unless the Sheraton bowl can strike a deal with the Pac12 or any other bigger conference, the MWC is its best choice.
I remember back in the late 60s – early 70s when the old PCAA wanted UH to join. Gov Burns felt that the schools in the old WAC were more similar to UH.
When I first had an attack of vertigo, I was, of all things, taking flying lessons!
Doctor prescribed dramaine (meza…….)which solved the problem. However, he grounded me as there was always the possibility of it reoccurring.

Hōkūleʻa heads to Tahiti next week. Eventually it will visit American Samoa, Tonga and New Zealand among other places. Seems like another opportunity to show case Hawaii and UH.

I recently flew on “the friendly skies” to the midwest and dealt with 3+ hours delays both ways. There’s something to be said for point A-B routes.

#35 Lowtone123~I remember some names from before the Fab5 that played basketball for UH. It may have been after he supposedly left though. Sleepy Simon, Ellis Price, Happy Hairston, Lucky Smith. I don’t remember the name of Dick Parsons though. In those days, the games weren’t on tv and I’m not sure if it was on the radio either.
Next thing they’ll be saying Obama wasn’t born in Hawaii…again.

I think UH used to have a yearbook until the mid 60s named Ka Palapala. That’s one way to find out.
If Red Rocha confirmed that Parsons played for UH, albeit JV, it’s good enough for me.

Typical UH record keeping in not knowing if Parsons played for the freshmen team or not.
#38 at the time, I believe it was the 7 largest university. I do not know how they did it but that is only a tidbit of how they do things. Maybe it was because my daughter graduated from a public school (w/honors) and was from out of state. Interestingly, there was an article in one of the then two Hawaii newspapers where the author of the article was lamenting about the fact that many of the bright students choose not to go to UH. I guess when you put in the time and effort to secure “honors” upon graduating and apply to colleges and are treated as “a number” it makes the choice to go away an easy one.
Of the five colleges, of which UH was one that she wrote to and was accepted into for her freshman year, all called to speak with her about the possibility of going to their school. UH sent a standard letter of being accepted. In essence, she was being “recruited” by all except UH. So maybe recruiting of others to stay and attend UH may not be so different.
This school’s graduations, yes graduations are held over several days by colleges, I believe. That being said, the graduation ceremony we attended was in an auditorium that held maybe 300 to 500. They had a camera on the outside of the auditorium that beamed in the images of the students walking into the building and as each student went to get their diploma the camera at the stairs caught their face and the student’s name was below the shot.
They had the school chorale group, the orchestra and the whole nine yards participate in the celebration. No corners were cut. The guest speaker at the commencement was the president of a large food company, who I imagine is a huge contributor to the college.
I told my wife if they passed out envelopes at that time asking for a donation, they could have collected enough to build a new facility. It was that impressive. They made us feel that our child was an important part of their institution.

Well in the days that Parson played for the freshmen team the basketball program was irrelevant before the Fab 5. All the games were played in the Klum Gym. I doubt the UH would consider those teams during that time period a priority so hence insufficient records.

ESPN had a human-interest article about Adam Muema. After reading, kind of makes me think that Muema might have some serious mental health issues. Early stages of paranoid schizophrenia, perhaps?

bo levi mitchell was not very good in college…he kinda sucked at smu.
Anyway, my flight is about to start boarding.
Speaking of flight delays, I must be the luckiest flyer as my flights have been on time or delayed no more than 30 minutes. Although, there was one flight that I was on that had to divert because of an engine failure.
Hmm, Bo was pretty good until he got hurt while at SMU. He did take Eastern Washington to the FCS champioships, if not mistaken.
