Where's the love?

Still feeling sorry for Craig James?

According to this report from the Idaho Statesman, James, an ESPN analyst, picked Boise State No. 7 in the final Associated Press poll.

http://voices.idahostatesman.com/2010/01/08/bmurphy/how_did_broncos_ended_no_4

James has never shown much love for the non-BCS teams — strange, given that his alma mater (Southern Methodist) is a member of a non-BCS conference. He was one of UH’s most vocal critics during the Warriors’ 12-0 regular season.

Aside from that, it’s surprising he is given a vote considering his son is a member of the Texas Tech football team. I would think he would recuse himself based on that affiliation.

Undefeated is undefeated. Maybe in this weighted system, Boise State does not deserve to be No. 1. But it shouldn’t be worse than No. 4.

Admit it, UH fans: You’re happy USC’s Joe McKnight has applied for the 2010 draft.

Remember Brett Symonds? He was a walk-on kicker who redshirted in 2008. He earned the nickname “Ice Cube” because of his friendship with Dan “Iceman” Kelly.

Symonds played for College of the Desert this past season. It appears he is heading to Utah State.

At least they’re trying.

For last night’s volleyball match, UH brought back the cheerleaders, who even went into the stands to stir the hand-sitters. Alan Hackbarth also attended, although he did not dance. The Warriors also broke out new uniforms, which feature a kapa design. Even Manoa chancellor Virginia Hinshaw unveiled a new hat.

When I look out my dining room window, I see my neighbor Doug Tanaka’s beautifully manicured lawn. Unfortunately, his view is of my weeds. I imagine that’s how it is with my Roosevelt High classmates. All of the women are gorgeous, such as Janet (Yoshida) Bullard:

janet

Janet is the associate vice president of alumni relations for the UH Foundation. She’s smart, funny and a great person. Happy birthday, Janet!

Also, 75th happy birthday to the King. We know you’re still out there.

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

I guess James has the BCS mentality.

Remember that Craig James was part of the “system” at

SMU, which eventually was given the Death Penalty.

  5. Pomai January 8, 2010 8:52 am

I’m surprised he is still on espn, given his history with SMU which is still questionable, he seems like he is a wannabe longhorn. The other thing is why is he a expert for crying out loud he was a 7th round draft pick, an he didn’t do much in the nfl either.

Craig James is more of a donkey than a Mustang. with this whole thing with Texas Tech and his spoiled son to Non-BCS schools. the BCS avoided all major arguments by putting Boise and TCU together. No more BCS buster surprise wins over BCS teams. and they dodged another bullet when TCU lost to Boise. Everyone thought TCU should have a shot at the title game.

i think for being the only other undefeated team with 14 wins, Boise deserves at least a #3 ranking.

  11. Slugger January 8, 2010 9:01 am

    AZWARRIOR22,

Read in the Flagstaff paper that it took people over an hour to get out of the snowplay area off H-180 during the Christmas & New Year’s weekends. It’s 34 degrees there right now, high today is 36.

  12. madeinhawaii January 8, 2010 9:02 am

I watched the video of Jeremy Ioane we need this kid bad, he is a ntural athlete looks great on both sides of the ball, hopefully we can get him to stay home. I think we should show the top kids in the statehow it sounded when Micah Matsuzaki came back to town with the cougs, maybe it’ll give them an idea how much of an impact you can make by staying home.

Craig James sucks! So does Kirk Herbstreit, Lampley & others that cannot
see beyond their very evident prejudices.

Even when a Boise State beats an Oklahoma or a Utah beats Alabama, they get a free pass because they were “heartbroken / disappointed” at not being in the National Championship game. Yeah right…like they are so heartbroken that they are willing to live down the humiliation of being beaten (or in Utah’s case, ‘crushed’) by an allegedly ‘inferior” team.

By the way, it’s a shame Colt McCoy was knocked out of the game because Alabama will not get its full due because of it. There will be those that say it would’ve different with him in the game. My opinion is that Alabama would’ve won ANYWAY! Colt McCoy did not strike fear in their hearts. If it was Colt Brennan, it would be a different story. He’s better than McCoy ever was & maybe ever will be.

  15. Garret January 8, 2010 9:15 am

I would have Alabama at #1, Florida at #2, and Boise State at #3. I think that only Alabama would have beaten Florida this year.

Next year for preseason I’d like to see Alabama at #1 and BSU at #2. That would create huge interest in BSU’s WAC games next year and I’m sure that UH’s game at BSU would be on ESPN.

  16. Piper's Son January 8, 2010 9:15 am

Hard to argue with a 14-0 record. Think BSU should have been 2nd or 3rd at most in the final tally.

  17. AZWARRIOR22 January 8, 2010 9:15 am

    Slugger,

Not in Phoenix; it’s actually quite nice and sunny (70 high, 46 low). Of course Phoenix is at 1000′ and Flagstaff is the high country. It’s 35 in Flagstaff right now.

Gordy Shaw is in the Minneapolis/St. Paul twin cities area to recruit right now. I hope that he brings back an OL commit or two…some 6′ 7″ tackles with quick feet would be nice!

Gordy Shaw, the former Gophers football recruiting whiz, is in town recruiting for Hawaii, where he is offensive line coach.

I agree with Garrett that it’d be nice if Coach Shaw can snag a couple of good ones, esp. OTs. It would go a long way toward insuring that the protections we need on O would be there and will also determine if we can put up numbers against the big boys that have significant pass rushers.

Would we still have a few scholies available to accommodate them?

Isn’t Boise State a D1 school??? Aren’t they undefeated??? Not ranked high because they’re in the WAC????. Check out the SEC non conference schedule. Don’t they play Appalooser State and other Cupcake Universities? Remember the year BYU won the national championship? They were the only unbeaten team in the nation (D1). Oklahoma and other “big” schools made big stink about that. One coach reminded OU that they had their Iowa States too (terrible at the time). I’m sure the BCS schools remember that too, which is one of the reasons why they never will let that happen again. BSU won all their battles INCLUDING the PAC 10 champions and the MWC champions (undefeated in bowls until BSU) and ranked #4 or worst??? Come on. GO WAC!!!! Go Warriors!!!

  33. Stephen Tsai January 8, 2010 10:34 am

My mom was the director of occupational therapy at a geriatric hospital in New York. When I was a kid, and I had no school, she used to drag me to work. During the exercise session, my task was to wake up the patients who were sleeping in their wheelchairs.
Not sure why, but that sort of reminded me of the cheerleaders going into the stands last night.

Watched game and was interesting, but the last 1:45 of the game shows the true coach saban. he is an absolutely no class guy and would like to see oppostition teams in the future when they play alabama, keep their first team and run the score on them. do you see any team who has the game won, has the ball near the goal line with less than 1:45 try to score and the opposition has only 1 to remaining??? any team that plays alabama and has the game won, keep your first team in there and run up the score.

This is also true of Florida, run the score and kick mud in their face. Both of these teams have absolutely no class or sportsmanship.

  50. Garret January 8, 2010 11:24 am

Sounds like one of the top recruits in Hawaii wanted to play for UH, but UH did not offer him. It sure seemed to me that UH could have used a big run-stopping DT like him in the rotation last season. This is one case where a local recruit will go to a Pac 10 or Big 12 school and nobody can call him disloyal to Hawaii because apparently UH didn’t want him.

Sealii Epenesa knew they coming, but he wasn’t sure what to expect. Baylor Defensive Coordinator Brian Norwood, a Radford High alum, visited Epenesa and his family in Hawaii Wednesday night and they will be his third, and probably last, official visit before he makes his final decision.

First he’ll visit Westwood the weekend of January 15th, followed by a trip to Corvallis the following weekend. And he told Scout.com that he just might stay on the mainland and fit in his trip to Baylor in-between his UCLA and Oregon State visits, but as of now he didn’t have an exact date set.

According to Epenesa, UCLA, Colorado, Texas Tech, Oregon State, Washington and Baylor have all offered scholarships.

When the recruiting process first started for the big defensive tackle, he thought his first offer would come from the home school. “I thought they would be the first to offer, but maybe they don’t need defensive tackles,” he said when asked about the lack of recruiting attention from Hawaii. “I know it’s all about what they need right and the direction they are heading.”

  51. whitey January 8, 2010 11:38 am

Garret, what is said by the recruit is one thing, but do you truly know what UH said??? UH is keeping recruiting info at a very low profile right now and i think they have very good reason for doing this. Even if UH did offer, would he commit right away??? i don’t think so because he has many offers. so is UH the bad guy??? no, this is how recruiting goes. this is the very kind of negative recruiting that is not needed cause we don’t know both sides of the story.

  52. EH NO MAKE ! January 8, 2010 11:43 am

Feel my pain….. I am a season ticket holder, I have been since the Dick Tomey years. I see how some of the “think they knows” on this site question dedication, calling out “bandwagn” jumpers etc., but me, I don’t.

Reality is, and it’s not just the economy, but the product really stinks.

I mean we all suffered during the end of the Tomey era with very little offensive output, the Wagner year brought us some good football ’til the end, and von Appen, well, they lost in bunches, but I never really had an “ugly” feeling from the guy.

Now, under Greg McMackin, well, that right there could be enough to NOT renew.

Thank God men’s volleyball season has started, because I don’t think McMackin can screw that up can he ?

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again and I’ll keep saying it, University of Hawaii needs a new head football coach. This guy stinks. Don’t believe the fake front guys, he’s NOT the “country-hick grandpa” guy he sometimes likes to portray himself like, instead, the guy’s a bafoon. I mean he could mess up a free lunch, oh, and he has.

The team lacks inspiration, leadership, direction, recruiting plan, vision and not to mention results.

I really don’t mind losing, I don’t, it’s part of the game, but I do mind ignorance, I mind “cluelessness”, I mind a mind-wandering know-nothing and I mind just absolute brain-fart game management.

Laffing out Loud, I feel you. I’m not following your lead…yet, but I too cry on the inside sometimes. The state of UH football right now is simply SAD.

  53. letsgowarriors January 8, 2010 11:46 am

so based on ur logic, we should only offer kids that will commit right away? Mack and Co. messed up on Epenesa. whatever UH’s side is, they didnt offer at all.

there also another rumor that jiniki timoteo called UH to find out when his official visit date, and no one could give him an answer.

    GREAT JOB MACK!

  54. NYUH January 8, 2010 11:53 am

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/mike-shanahan/edwards-offensive-line-must-be.html?wpisrc=nl_sports

Earlier this year, I spoke with Herman Edwards, former coach in Kansas City and with the New York Jets, and we talked about rebuilding. At the time, Jim Zorn was on the hot seat, and Edwards was pointing out that the team had put itself in a hole because philosophically, it kept plugging leaks, rather than building any sort of foundation.

  59. Ralph January 8, 2010 12:17 pm

NYUH interesting article, lots of fans have looked at UH’s OL as a problem area that needs a lot of improvement to succeed. Brian Smith didn’t have the experience to develop a top notch OL. Shaw brings in a new dimension UH can build on but where are the recruits at OL. UH has plugged in seniors who did not play much in their first three years, especially at our guard positions. Injuries restricted a lot of them, but the fact remains, much of their PT happened as seniors, not much prior PT. Namely guys like, Letuli, Hisatake, Leru, Tuioti-Mariner and another guard who played two years ago. Coach Mac needs HS OL to train. RS as freshman, by the time they are soph eligible (juniors academically) they would be on their third year in the system.

  60. Ralph January 8, 2010 12:23 pm

actually at the baseball games, got to include the duo of Stretch and PowderPuff, loud and clear, add in Rob, Midori and UHFan to A/Joe and Koakane you got a winning cheering section. Now if the women AD would mind her own business and keep away from the gang, the fans can have the game back and have fun. Some of you say the mvb crowd is to passive, the women AD say the bb crowd is too loud, is this a game or what!

  66. AZWARRIOR22 January 8, 2010 12:56 pm

I think the Mac haters need to take a chill pill. The first season that Mac took over, he took over so late (in January after the Sugar Bowl) and therefore, did not benefit from a full recruiting season so they had to scrape what they could get. And to top it off, they lost to graduation Colt and the 4 amigos, so you would expect that the following year would be a drop off. They broke a new QB and 4 new receivers and went bowling. This past season was beset by many key injuries and the team held together fairly well. If we had a healthy Greg Alexander, we would have been bowling this year too. So the way I see it, Mac has only had 1 real recruiting class. It usually takes a few recruiting classes to see how it all shapes up. And people quickly easily forget how tough it is to sell the top local recruits on the home school. It seems Mac is making the effort to recruit better locally. I think we should all wait until the end of the recruiting season before judging the class. Show the love and support the Warriors !!

  67. Ralph January 8, 2010 12:59 pm

Bobby Knight must be laughing his socks off with the firing of fb coaches for misconduct-Mangino of Kansas, Leach at Texas Tech and now Leavitt at USF. More shockingly is that Knight was hired and now retired at Texas Tech, same people who fired Leach for placing Adam James in a darkened room. Unlike the other coaches, he didn’t lay a hand on Adam James or any other player.

I never liked the guy after he dissed Hawaii saying we played a lot of cupcakes. So what! You play the cards that are dealth. We tried to played Michigan St., we tried to play Texas, we tired to play Michigan. They all didn’t want to play us. So what are we supposed to do!

Who’s doing the evaluating for the local recruits? Who recruited the commits that we got so far. I’d really like to know because down the line we will find out who’s assessment is correct or not correct. Who recruited Steve Christian? Is he going to be a player? Who recruited Kevin Konrath? Was he going to be a player…moot point, he’s gone?
Who recruited Tuiasosopo? Is he going to compete for playing time this year? That’s the kind of thing what we need to know, if our recruiting is going well. Of our commitments so far, nobody is big time.

Totally agree with you and others. Unfortunately haters & bashers don’t go away until the team starts winning consistently. Also, detractors that constantly call for firing coaches prematurely have a difficult time coming up with truly logical rationales or constructive criticism. I feel the team is shoring up its weaknesses, but they are going to be challenged early-on next season along with a pretty tough overall schedule. Any faltering / early significant injuries & the
boo-birds will be back with a vengeance. Again, I still feel Coach Mack will have the last laugh when all is said & done.

  76. Windward January 8, 2010 2:56 pm

The guys who are critical about who is and isn’t being recruited don’t understand much about recruiting or they think they know more about who is and isn’t a player than guys who have this as a job. It’s absolutely possible that a casual fan may be right about a certain player but if a judgement is made without the extensive scouting, comparison, and film study that a coach does then the opinion is pretty much worthless. Recruiting is a two way street and by this time in a player’s recruitment the coaches know exactly who is worth spending time on and who’s not. All of the local prospects have been invited to spend time on the UH sidelines during games and if they wanted to be a part of UH football and UH wanted them then the recruiting is on. If either side doesn’t respond then you got your answer. Nobody’s a secret at this point. They have all been scouted and talked to multiple times. If UH is not in communication the player needs to move on and find someone who wants them. The recruiting year starts off with a list of about 300 names and is whittled down to the 25 or so guys they want and can get as it gets closer to signing day. Well at this point UH pretty much has the guys they want. If they are not in contact with Epenesa one or both sides have made their feelings known. It’s an inexact science and mistakes are made every year. Good luck to him. But don’t feel sorry for Sealii he has a Iolani education, a bunch of great choices and nowhere did he say it was his dream to play here.

  83. WWF January 8, 2010 3:39 pm

    Garret and LetsgoWarriors,

UH has commitments from two DT’s, Viliami Fonokalafi and London Sapolu. Charlie Tuaau could also play DT if we need him there. We also have three transfer DT’s coming next year with Bulla’s son, Ryan and Josh Manupuna and Kaniela.

We have offered four other DT’s, three of them local prospects that have yet to commit. Seems like our coaches made their selections based on talent and possibly an academic qualification assessment.

In my opinion, what we need to focus on is a power running back, a few high school safety’s and a couple high school defensive backs. It seems like they are pursuing those needs aggressively. Have faith in our Coaches. They are doing their best.

    Go Warriors!

  84. al January 8, 2010 3:44 pm

    recruiting is a game.

you just don’t know what folks will say when backed in to a corner.

some folks even forget what they said to one person and then another.

why even the tennessee bar girl trick has been replayed all across the nation.

why some recruits were even indulged by some coed who “fell in love with him” on the official visit only to be dropped like a hot potato when he doesn’t commit.

but, yah. at this point it is crunch time so time is of the essence for young recruits as well as coaches. decisions need to be made swiftly and quickly.

in recruiting there always are the x, y, z factors.

these are the things that do not show up on game film, combines, etc.
these are the things like attitude, grades, background checks, parents, et al.

sometimes it is the x, y, z factors that prevent an offer from being tendered.

  95. kama krab January 8, 2010 5:47 pm

    In regards to Epenesa,

The boy is a bull up the middle and no doubt is the type of run stopping bull you need in th middle of your defense. He stout and has the size to play big boy ball but what he lack a bit of is speed of the ball. With regards to that he is kind of slow compared to some of the guy we are recruiting and some that have already committed. Let me just take a Pep Fonokalafi for example. Pep has a little quicker feet then Epenesa does. Both have very solid motors and both have good center of gravity. If they both grade out the same in those places I think the better player would be Pep in this case.

No doubt in my mind that Epenesa is more than a great player and will just grow with the right coaching but for our style of defense we need guys with quick feet and quick first step burst and from watching some of Epenesa games he is not that type of player.

I could see this kid being a major player in a 3-4 type defense holding up the middle of the D. But of course this is just my opinion and I hope that Epenesa can go someplace that will make use of his talent cause he is a very talented young man.

  96. wafan January 8, 2010 5:49 pm

PC and ‘Hawks have met. Both sides deny everything. Uh-huh. I guess it looks like Sark’s old boss will be a Seahawk. Question was whether Sark was going back to USC. He claimed he was happy as a Husky. We will have to see about that.

Other weak rumor was that Sark would join Carroll as a Seahawk. But then, Sark is not in trouble at the UW unlike that shyster who is now at UCLA. Perhaps a few million reasons may be dangled and good enough for him to move?

  99. kama krab January 8, 2010 5:56 pm

    Oh and one more thought,

In my opinion Charlie Tuaau will be the monster of this class. The boy has a no nonsense approach to the game and goes into every game just wanting to put a hurt on someone. This is the type of nastiness we need upfront. I guess you can call it a controlled aggression which all the great ones have. Charlie has a great motor and will be groom to be a very solid DT. I will but my money on this prediction and say Charlie Tuaau will be an impact player and maybe even an all-Wac performer before he leaves UH. But as we all know, the boy gotta get it done in the class room before he can ever live up to any of my prediction for him. Sign on the dotted line, qualify for school and sky will be the limit for this kid. IMHO

Craig James and Mel Kiper Jr. both look like two individuals that are wanted for the enticement of a minor.

  109. Garret January 8, 2010 8:36 pm

kama krab made a very good point that Epenesa may not be a fit with UH’s defense but he could be important in another defensive system. I said something similar to that on SportsHawaii (I actually thought I sent that comment here and not there) about how Mack’s D emphasizes speed and recruits a lot of DEs, with the thought that some of the DEs would move to DT.

I wouldn’t count Sapolu as a DT commit as a reason not to recruit Epenesa because Sapolu shifted to OL last year and UH recruited him as an OL.

So, this may be a point where UH focused more on speed at a position and a local recruit was not a fit because of that. UH has to recruit for its system, so that is an understandable decision by the coaches. I’m glad that Epenesa will be able to get a scholarship elsewhere and I’m sure that he will represent Hawaii well wherever he goes.

Then again I thought the same with June Jones and Hawaii….shows how naive I am.

Thinking about it, maybe USC will go back to the NFL and bring back a OC or DC to take over the program. I don’t see too many candidates from the college level that are big name and big time that would take the job at USC.

  139. Ralph January 8, 2010 10:00 pm

Yup kaimiloa, walker is a plus when hitting, but has a long way to be an all around rotation player. Passing, digging and at times, his serving is a liability. Now Charlie has game film and seen his charges under fire, by next week I expect an improvement in their passing alignments and who will be the primary passers.

  140. al January 8, 2010 10:01 pm

    anything positive to say???

    hmmm.

the 12th ranked warriors tooke the 5th ranked nittany lions to a fifth game. the warriors show much promise early in the season, performing much better than their number 12 ranking having beaten the number 10 ten very handily the night before.

the most improved portion of the hawaii team is not only the recent addition of freshman sensation jonas umlauft but the fact that we now have a presence in the middle with the much more healthy grgas and rawson.

can’t wait to see the charlie wade led team as they learn to play in a new system this towards the end of the season.

    go warriors!

He is the right man for the job. (Goodnite Ralph)

  144. madeinhawaii January 8, 2010 10:46 pm

It was a good game tonight. Warriors played a close match. They weren’t blown out and their weaknesses, though exposed, can be addressed with the talent they have. Coach Wade had them prepared tonight. A good competitive match early in the season and a close loss to a much higher ranked team will keep help focus them in the right direction for the rest of the season. Hopefully they will peak at just the right time towards the end of the season.

  145. Ralph January 8, 2010 10:50 pm

there is nothing positive about service receive and passing errors. It is what it is, regardless of rank. A loss is a loss, I’m sure the goal for Charlie is the national championship and that is within reach, there is no “feel good” losses even to a higher ranked team, especially in VB where a lot of the top ten teams are pretty equal. When you don’t pass, you don’t give yourself a chance to win, so it’s not about the level of rank, UH never got into system to run their offense. Like I said, game is on film, against players other than teammates, now the adjustments will take place and as I said, by next week we’ll see a lot of improvements in the passing game.

  146. Ralph January 8, 2010 10:59 pm

Hi MIH you ever buy a computer on line from Dell and/or HP. I checked out best buy, then I ran the system thru dell and HP and best buy price came out equal or cheaper. I had the impression that buying online direct from the manufacturer would save me some dollars, not now. I read a while back that dell was redirecting its business to box stores and cutting back on catalog direct sales, I wonder if this is the reason the prices are about the same.

  147. madeinhawaii January 8, 2010 11:14 pm

    Ralph…

I build my own from scratch.. research motherboards.. ram.. cpu..graphic cards and put together what I need from that. BUT you’re right, most of super stores offer slightly better pricing because that’s the way Dell can keep their items on the shelves in those stores. It’s impossible to beat the packaged deals with Windows pre-installed, 6GB RAM and a 20-inch or bigger monitor included ($400 value). The downside to these systems is usually in the overall quality of the motherboard and graphic cards. But for home use, they will be more than sufficient.

MIH I thought I was the only one having computer problems in the family, yesterday my daughter tells me, oh, both of my computers are down, let’s go shopping for computers. Her C drive failed, can’t run her programs, her laptop can’t handle 3 d graphics properly, such as systat, cad, etc. I didn’t know she did statistics in 3 D format, but she also needs 3 D for archaeology topography, etc.

  152. d1島 January 8, 2010 11:27 pm

….not to mention ESPN 3D is coming out by summertime!

  153. madeinhawaii January 8, 2010 11:30 pm

Ralph… tell her to write down what the minimal requirements are for the software that she’s using. Maybe even download some of that 3-d stuff on a usb stick to test on the floor models, if possible. Laptops aren’t the best for 3-D imaging … I’m constructing a CnC (computer controlled woodcarving machine) and it looks like a laptop won’t run the 3-D software I need to control the machine. )

Any chance she can recover her stuff on the failed hard drive?

  154. madeinhawaii January 8, 2010 11:31 pm

    d1…

Won’t you need a special TV to watch those 3-D programs?

  155. Ralph January 8, 2010 11:31 pm

so do we have to buy new tv to watch 3d format, or invest in 3 glasses.

  156. madeinhawaii January 8, 2010 11:34 pm

    Ralph…
For you daughter’s work though… you might want to consider investing more and get her a custom build from one of the two shops I mentioned above. A solid motherboard with Sata II drives and a high performance graphics card.

Then replace her hard drive with yours and adopt her machine for your personal use. (You may need to download other drivers to get it to work with your harddrive, though.) … I can do it for you… but you gotta come out here.

  157. Ralph January 8, 2010 11:41 pm

MIH the drive that crashed is a partitioned drive C, it must be a recovery drive or the hub for all of the software. She doesn’t have any personal items on it. Her D drive has about 50gb of free space, and she has a 1.5 t external hd. she has saved all of her work to the external, including music.

she needs the laptop for 3 D in class at UH. Follow along in the class and lab work.

  158. Ralph January 8, 2010 11:44 pm

MIH i found an HP laptom with 1 gb dedicated video memory, 2 gb total memory with the GeForce 230GT card. not many laptops with independent (dedicated) memory.

  159. madeinhawaii January 8, 2010 11:50 pm

1 GB dedicated is outstanding for a laptop. If it has 1 GB dedicated and can share another gig of RAM and the unit has at least 4 GB to run the Windows 7, it should be more than ample to for her classwork.

  160. Ralph January 8, 2010 11:51 pm

the desk top by dell has sata, firewire and usb 2.0 ports. a dedicated geforce 240gts video card. 8 ddr3 and 1 t hd. core i7 processor. so I think i got the speed, capacity and video portions covered. I need to buy high end to last a few years. I don’t want a system to be obsolete in a couple of years. but this is for my daughter. I can get by with a model in the 5 to 6 hundred range for myself.

    Ralph…

The desktop sounds good. Keep in mind, however, that Dell often uses proprietary motherboards so an over-the-counter replacement is probably not going to fit into the case.

For your own use, you probably can get by replacing your daughter’s hard drive with yours and just use her unit as your “new” one. Back up your personal files and give it a go.

Anyway.. I’m off to bed now…. eyes are half shut…
