Thursday's practice
Greg McMackin said he expects quarterbacks Tyler Graunke and Inoke Funaki to both play against San Jose State. He said announcing the starter will be a “game-time decision.”
* * *
Linebacker Blaze Soares is not expected to play this week. Even before he suffered a tweaked ankle yesterday, it was felt Soares probably would benefit from more rest.
It has not been decided whether running back Daniel Libre (sprained right ankle) will play this week.
But defensive tackles Rocky Savaiigaea and Fale Laeli will play.

Today is John Fonoti’s birthday. Clockwise from the birthday guy (in black shirt) is Chris Leatigaga, Tui Tuiasosopo, Fale Laeli, Keith AhSoon and Tuika Tufaga.

Here are Graunke and Blaze:

Watching the National League pennant races unfold — and by fold, I’m not talking about my Mets — it makes you wonder what would have happened if two key players, the Phillies’ Shane Victorino and Brewers’ C.C. Sabathia, had followed through on college plans.
Both had made backup commitments to UH: Victorino as a slotback, Sabathia as a two-sport athlete who would have tried out at tight end.
* * *
Wideout Dylan Linkner is sporting a new look:
* * *
Former UH running back Mario Cox is enrolled in school and doing well. His football scholarship was allowed to lapse, but he still was invited to remain on the team as a walk-on. He would have been a fourth-year junior this season.

Happy belated birthday to hiflyer.

ST,
Mahalo for bringing on Sen. Tsutsui yesterday. Much appreciated! He called my after the session, said you were a “nice” guy! 🙂
Hey, Duffer, thanks for setting up yesterday’s chat with Sen. Tsutsui.

Go Warriors!
ST
If you need some info on Summerlin, email me. I have a couple friends who use them, but they are small business owners!
Good morning Tsai-kos! Top 10. wow 😯
ST – tight end? huh? that’s a lightly used position. 😆 Good to see former players still in school. Does that affect the APR?
Off to work. bbl. esme and out. whooooooosh
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere!

Good result for UH Athletics.

Go Warriors!
BHF2, I heard the Cooke field debacle may not be over and Ching Nursery may appeal the decision, what happens then if they do so?
Have a great day, Ka Kou!
Hi Ho!
Morning, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.
I’m not the greatest Baseball fan around, but the Tampa Bay Rays are surely this years feel good story. What an amazing turn around and all in the toughest division. They remind me of the 99 Warriors.
I’m glad the coaches are playing it save with our wounded. We have a ton of season left and it would make no sense risking them for the rest of the games. The toughest part of the WAC schedule is yet to come.
If we are to entertain any dreams of another WAC championship, then this Saturday must be won decisively, by at least two touchdowns. We are at home and it all rests with the gears of the offense. That’s my only worry.
They seem to have adressed the ST units and I’m sure we’ll see a lot of improvement there, but I would really like to see our offense put together a complete, four quarter effort. I hope we’ll get back soon to the days of relentless attacking.
For all those reasons and more, this is my most anticipated game sofar.
Garrett,
Great post yesterday about the SH blog on Manti Teo. got me tinkin.
So one new coach, Gerke, tryin fo contribute. ok, i heard stuff about da guy in odda contex. but da bloggah neva have to rub it in on da new coach, cuz da truut iz Manti’s attitude wen he came to last summer’s UH invite, hiz vibe wuz already made up an wuz picked up by odda invites who was watchin da vibe….
like da national debt, nobody like talk about real prolems cuz no like make da vibe wurse, but fo me,
i just like say to Manti Teo, who I don’t know, and da bloggah, who i don’t know, and to some of his cousins I know,
To each his own. I Manti I wish him as well as he can achieve to be..
Da bottom line for me… he is not part of Warrior Nation unless he wants to be a part of us. I have more Aloha for those who want to be with US.
He can always change his mind. God Bless him!
Go Warriors!
Call (808) 259-5707 and ask, “WTF??!!??”
If Ching Nursery continues this balony trouble, he’s only waisting his money. Once his appeal has been denied, precedence has been established and further appeals should not stop UH from proceeding with installation of the turf. He can waste his money in the back rooms, if he wants to. Does he have any kind of case to further throw wrenches into the process?
Am I right or wrong here?
Alex Gerke,
…read da vibes of the playahz… summa dem tink day no how fo cummuneekate, but sen u mix signals. sumtin nut exackly right wen yo wurds no add up to plusses, plus day make excuse fo pick on you. i suggess communications schooling fo you. 😀
akchally, i no blame you. Word of Life get good kids, good man fo coach. just dat a new team, and UH get a new team in a bunch of respects, takes time.
like potagee bean soup, you gotta boil da bugga fo long time, den yu gotta let em sit fo long time fo make da bestest!
just let da people see you get one good heart, and try your best every day, every time!
Go Warriors!!
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!

have a good day, play nice esme whoooosh
Morning gang-
SJSU arrives today?
After the Weber St. game, I was impressed their team, QB and Bulldozing FB, plus Bulla Jr.
They have the potential to take the Big Sky conference title this year.
That conference offers FREE viewing of select games each week, and doohhh!, missed the Sac. St/ Weber game on the live coverage.
http://www.bigskytv.com
This is pretty sweet that this offer is out there for bringing in viewership.
good to see that mario cox is making the most out of his education.
Tsai-Meister,
Does Mario have a chance to make it back on the team?
Good morning!
ST: Regarding your comment from yesterday… Yes, apparently I had to learn that the hard way. At least I got them back, even if it was AFTER I borrowed a book from my other friend. I ended up having twice the load to take to class, but that’s better than no books at all.
RYAN:
FloridaTed #17 says it all…
Unless the date in which to object is complied with, procedurally the objector is dead in the water.
That is why you have deadlines.
I’m a regular lurker, but not too frequent blogger. My son Kahai is #65 OL, RS Fresh this year. Most of you know that already, but I feel like its polite to introduce myself when I walk in the room, so to speak.
I’ve been travelling so much this summer that I’ve missed a lot of stuff. Go check our blog (bottom corner on home page http://www.naleo.net) for some pix of Na Leo’s recent exploits in Osaka, Fukuoka and Tokyo.
Got to meet some Tsaiko’s at practice, and met D1Shima at the SL game last weekend (KS JV vs STL). My younger son Pono #25 plays DB on KS JV.
Anyway, can’t wait for Saturday’s game. We need a win v SJSU to get the momentum on track. Remember, if last year’s team had to play flawless from the beginning and beat quality teams early and on the road, we probably wouldn’t have been 12-0. This team just needs time to gel and win. We fans can help and support!!
ST…
SO, is Mario “retired” from football?…or at least UH football? How does his situation affect the APR for UH football?
Either way, it’s good to see that Mario is not an academic casualty. Hopefully he can finish up soon with his BA degree.
Mahalo!
ST…
BTW, whatever happened with spring practice prospects Quentin Beaver & Les Soloai? Neither is listed on the updated UH football roster on the UH Athletics website.
Mahalo!
From Ferd’s article this morning:
“In Tomey’s tenure at UH, even through 4-6-2 and 5-5-1 seasons, it sometimes seemed all they had to do was turn on the lights in Halawa and 40,000 would show up. Even if it was only out of curiosity. Of course, back then UH football was an event.”
So an obvious solution, of course, would be to turn it back into an event. It’s all about one word, “tailgaiting.” From early in the day without the flea market, and then again after the game, late into the night.
I wonder If Ching Nursery continues with this, would it be because they want that specialty licenses to come into play for all of the future projects which totals out to a lot of money.
When I first heard that we had landed Mario Cox I thought that we had gotten our star back for the next few years, big powerful runner with the skill to juke them out of their shoes, too bad it never panned out for him. I’m glad he is still going after his degree.
Aloha Nalani,
Mahalo for joining us today. We hope that you continue to blog and share your mana’o with us all throughout and beyond your sons’ career at UH.
nalani,
good that you can join us. you’ve come to the right spot. if you’re on travel, you can also keep up to speed on UH news at Tombo’s site, http://uhfootball.blogspot.com the wonders of the internet. information is everywhere!
ST – you need to read your benefit guide from Summerlin carefully. If you need help interpreting the jargon, let me know.
Nalani – welcome to the blog. Please continue to post often.
OK off to meetings. bbl. esme and out. whooosh.
Gud morning Tsaiko’s/Tsaikettes-
Kapakahi…Quentin was told that he needs to drop a significant amount of weight before re-joining the team! He’s in a situation like I believe Nate Ilaoa was…u know check into camp at 360 plus pounds…but he dropped 80 plus and became RB…an awesome one at that! Quentin is such a wonderful young man, comes from a good family…and he’s been working hard in trying to get his weight down. According to my hubby, the Defense needs a Quentin to plug up the middle!
Let’s go WARRIOR NATION…thru the good times n bad…our Boy’s need all of your support!

“Behind every Warrior is a RAINBOW”
Let’s be sure that we all understand the situation as it stands right now.
The Appeals Hearing officer did NOT rule on the merits of the original appeal – that the University issued an contract to a unqualified contractor. The ruling yesterday was on an procedural appeal by the University that Ching’s appeal was filed too late. She found in favor of the University.
That stopped Ching’s Nursery from going forward with its challenge so as it stands now, the University will initiate the work order as described in yesterday’s post..
Ching Nursery can file another lawsuit directly to the Supreme Court stating that the merits of their argument based upon lack of proper licenses and, by extension, lack of qualifications should override a procedural decision based upon lack of timeliness.
This will mean more big bucks spent for the legal beagles on both sides.
If I were advising them, I would tell them to drop this particular case and then go back to the Contractors License Board and properly initiate the changes in the rules & regulations which includes public hearings.
These issues have been discussed extensively by Tom Mui, BHF2 and me. The next step is to come up with a plan to make sure that this debacle does not happen again. If changes properly initiated under existing state laws are not made within DCCA, then we’lll be to go to the Legislature to get them to codify the licensing process. BTW – this is done in other professions such as doctors, dentists, lawyers, CPAs.
Once again to clarify a statement in yesterday’s blog: Ching Nursery did NOT drop their appeal. They lost the appeal on procedural grounds.
Will stay on top of this. Have to leave for the Stadium Authority meeting
I think that Sadowski is on top of this one already….
Howzit Nalani! Welcome!
This is your old DA whom you saw at practice. 🙂 Thanks for joining us! You’ve come to a good place to talk story and hang out with some really good people. We already know that you’re really good people too, so you should find this place to your liking. We look forward to your next posts!. 😉
Lua-
Taht’s super news about Quintin!
aloha to all the Tsaikos,
mahalo Maverick for the props for Weber State, they are just a bunch of student athletes trying to do their very best….like all of our kids.
i hear rumors that Beaver was going to be the RB for SJSU game….? i guess not.
Good luck to all the Warriors, including the redshirts…..one for all and all for one….time to BATTLE, no looking back, just dig in, and PUSH forward.
we’ll be checking the blog from America, time to cheer on our Hawaiian boys at Weber State 🙂
Greetings and Blessings Warrior Nation! 🙂
Nalani & Lua – thanks for stopping by. It’s always great to have parents of players post. It gives us another perspective of what’s going on.
Nalani – tell Kahai to work hard in school and get’s his engineering degree, it is a great carrer.
Nalani – And as you can tell from Stretch, engineers don’t need to know how to spell.
GOOD MORNING TSAIKONESE!
GO WARRIORS!

If you read between the lines, the post came from his father, so he’s entitled to say whatever he likes.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with the prom queen asking a guy to dance if she really wants to dance with him. If the Te’o gang was interested in UH, why wait for UH to call? It works both ways.
good thing I get homey, no need use the spell check when I post.
career dammit!!
So ST, how did you become a Mets fan? Not only do I find out we were at Manoa at the same time (UH ’83), but we are both Mets fans, although watching them lately is pretty painful. I’m sitting in my office eating my lunch including a can of Dole pineapple slices…eeh, ah.
Stretch – I can just imaging you filling out a purchase order for 1000 cubic feet of cement and getting 1000 cubic feet of semen delivered. 😆
homey – i’ll call you for that delivery….
Victorino would’ve been a helluva slot back! That guy is tough as evidenced by his collision at home plate with the fully padded catcher.
Stretch – give me a weeks notice.
I’m sure Manti KNOWS he’s a star, which does not imply that he’s arrogant, but he knows he’s a star. Maybe UH didn’t grovel enough at his feet and his family is talking down our coaches? I don’t know the whole story, but I’m not sure I like it.
We don’t need superstars in our system, just high quality kids for serious depth, who love to be Warriors, the only way to get the Super Ohana going again.
This will be the first game we will see it and everything will fall into place.
We already have a bunch of high quality kids coming in and, of course, I would like to have Manti on the team, but he won’t make or break our program. Isn’t he going on a church mission after High School? In that case there wouldn’t be a pay-off for a long time.
Our players rarely come in as stars, but many of them turn themselves into one, while staying very humble and down to earth. Colt is the Nr.1 example.
Almost game day!
Who’s gonna step up?
The electricity is in the air!
Warriors rushing game dominates!
GO WARRIORS!
No matter where our local athletes go, just remember to work hard, stay humble, and represent.
Lua,
give that overgrown Li’o Kai, haha, all our best. we had so much fun sitting with him at the SL pounding of ‘that school in manoa’.
maybe this year SL can finish the job!! let’s hope they can!!!
homey,
no forget your hero on sat. someone take a picture please.
Some of the older Tsaikos (no names) might be interested in this breaking news….
http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080925/BREAKING/80925044
Hi, Bulla,
Must feel great to see your son blossoming like yours does. Makes you realize what life is all about, the circle of life. It’s a cliche, but so true.
Boy, they sure take their sports very serious in Florida. My daughter tells me that my grandsons, 5 and 6 years old mind you, are being recruited by different leagues in football and soccer. I think that’s kind of nuts at this age, don’t you think?
chawan – no pictures!
Stretch – I was wondering why DPK’s pants looked so padded.
Both my grandsons made 5 and 6 goals in their last soccer games, that was in the first quarter. They must have gotten grandpas genes.LOL.
In flag football nobody can catch them, they’re as fast as protons, so the other kids are getting frustrated and tackle them, too funny.
Well, enough grandpa bragging.
Stretch: Some of the older Tsaikos (no names) might be interested in this breaking news….
I recall that yesterday’s CC at Camellia, I was the only Tsaiko there!
NALANI: Fell in love with you and your group and your close harmony when I was at a Symphony concert a couple of years ago and subsequently picked up most of your recordings. Welcome!♠
FT – The same recruitment of youngsters happen in Hawaii too! 😉
oh, thats right, i forgot about the restriction on pictures. a txt msg will be good for confirmation then.
homey,
don’t you think that’s kind of nuts? They’re still babies!
Nalani: Welcome! We met earlier this year at the Hula Bowl, when Barry introduced Liz and me to you. It was really nice to meet you then although I didn’t catch your name at the time, but I knew you looked awfully familiar. (I’m terrible with faces! Forgive me!)
So … Any plans on producing a Tsai-ko/Nā Leo CD? 😀
And tell Kahai that majoring in math is better than engineering people who go into that field end up like Stretch. IDK about that … 😛
Like father, like son… more jealousy…. (homey did I spell it correct??)
kinda hada feeling it’d be inoke from early in da week, still time, we’ll see…..
tom mui – that article was not being posted for you.
FT – One good that comes with recruitment at that age is that the kids get to play with better competition and in turn makes them better players.
Stretch – Jason may turn out to be like Dr Doc.
chawan – txt message? Well if UHfan808 shows up then she can do it since she is the txt message wizard!
homey – engineers definitely don’t need to know how to spell. Hubby sure doesn’t.
The recruitment of the little kids goes back aways too. I remember when my daughter was on the same vb team as Bob Coolen’s daughter and his wife was the coach. She said some of the youth baseball coaches were trying to recruit her son, who was in pre-K/K at the time. He’s now in 7th grade and not attending Punahou. 😀
Coach Mack must have some new plays installed since Graunke and Funaki are expected to play.
homey – or hubby. bean counters are the same as math majors, right??
First of all, congrats to Manti and his family…he is big time and deserves the national recognition.
Secondly, Lava, RE: #44
I felt the same when I read the fathers comments. Like when he said that UH’s offer was #28 or something like that….it seemed as if he was of the mind set that UH is back-water (in comparison to the BCS schools – and hes right because UH struggles with recruiting monies, just had a transition to another coaching regime, Mack was probably extremely busy with all types of things; we all know what they are, etc….BUT you figure that since he’s Kama’aina, he would understand what THE HOME TEAM is going through)
When Gerke did what he did (do we really know?- and yes, what he did was stupid) what was the dads response? “don’t tell me he’s from home”….I dunno about others, but to me, it sounds like he was embarassed of his “home” and the people from there.
But I digress, BIG PROPS to the Te’o family for having a “Plan” and executing it to a Tee…from Kahuku to Punahou and now, BIG TIME BCS school…just don’t forget your roots please….
P.S. One last thought and sorry for going “Off:….working 12 days straight can do it to you, heh…BUT please encourage local HS kids to stay home…Because…
All That’s Gold Does Not Glitter.
Back to the grind…”poof”
Good morning-ish everyone!
Another day of getting up and hunting for food like in my younger days–times have changed somewhat, though 😐
Bulla — have a good trip and honeymoon… and give my regards to the Beast! Honeymoon, huh? Well, good thing you waited–a honeymoon sandwiched by two Beast football games is pretty special!
jm2375 – English is a waste of letters.
homey-
No diapers yet, the “padding” is natural. Stop lookin’ at my pants!
Stretch-
“correctly”
crap, I get spell checkers and now grammar checkers. Don’t you guys have anything better to do??
Stretch – Even the personalities are similar! 😆
Hey DPK! r u going to the t-gate? I saw that special beer of Sweety’s on sale at Longs Drugs.
homey – if that is true, I wonder if chawan is one of them too??
Stretch – In defense of chawan, he is not one of them.
Can’t make it this week, homey. Thanks for the tip though, we’ll have to pick up some for our TVgate. You should try that beer sometime, I think you’d like it. It’s similar to Red Stripe I would say.
Manti Te’o/UH recruiting story
Without saying much I agree with posts #44 an #73.
K, enuff of dat! IS IT SATURDAY YET???
I’d like to see a tall receiver (like my man Avery) lined up as a tight end. Would be good to have a big receiver for those short or down the middle plays. This may take the LB’s out of the play setting up a delayed pass to the RB out of the backfield…ack, there I go again, acting like a coach…I think I’ll go back to being a politician since it’s easier to speak in circles.
DPK – what does Red Stripe taste like?
Beer.
HOOORAY BEER!!
homey-
Like I said I can’t really taste stuff, but I get sensations like sweet, salty, and pepper. I can barely tell the difference between an apple and an onion, for example. It’s hard to explain. But as for beer, I like stuff that isn’t heavy and quenches thirst without making you more thirsty. Azteca and Red Stripe are like that. My wife says both taste really good in a “beer” sense. Try ’em both. Let me know what you think.
what does homey taste like???
i am not one of who?
Koa-mahu – I think I taste like a younger version of koakane. You know, koakane is the stewing chicken and I am the frying chicken.
LMFAO@homey!
koa-mahu –
Try ’em both. Let me know what you think.
koa-m….a little vinegar, bay leaf, garlic, black peppercorns……
al – no forget the Swan shoyu as recommended by wreck.
Al
you wannabe chef, alan wong better watch out
What the hell is all this talk about Red Stripe, Azteca etc?!?! Drink Bud and support the Warriors! Remember?
Oh yeah- Aloha Erebody!
Where does everybody park? I’m bummed that Ford Island will be closed. I usually dont leave early enough to get into the stadium

STRETCH: When male oldsters are asked whether they wear BVDs or briefs, the answer is: “depends”.
Howzit Everybody,
It is good to see some of our boyz are getting better. Hope to see a better performance this Saturday.
What time is it, It’s game time.
Let’s go Warrior’s Let’s go
Bulla:
I thought that Hawaii was part of “America”.
homey – mmm. instead of “frying chicken”, you can be my baloot (smacking my lips).
Florida Ted:
What’s the chance of seeing your grand kids in a Warrior uni as a fleet WR or Slot?
Nalani:
Welcome to the Tsaiko family and look forward to seeing your son playing in the near future.
Your group is a favorite in our house.
If can, come join our tailgate at Cabana A near Richradson Field – you’ll see the TSAIKO sign proudly displayed.
Guy Hagi says,
Possible heavy showers and humid conditions around game time on Saturday.
PREPARE! But they said they’ll know more on the weather report tonight.
You know… Under Armour gear tends to dry faster than cotton and keeps you cooler under these predicted conditions…
Bighilofan2:
Like you, I am more interested in the student athlete who chooses to play for Hawaii and reason that I will not read the “Home grown” section in the paper. It would be interesting if any parent would like to comment about the press coverage for their child in the area they attend school.
I know that many have no interest in staying home for whatever reason and good luck to them. Some want to stay, but no scholarship available and reason for the “walkon” programs.
The desire to be a UH student athlete is a very strong motivator to do well in school and on the playing field.
Nalani ~
Welcome to the Tsaiko Ohana!…I’d like to offer you a chance to audition for the “Tsaiko All Star Band!” I know, I know, it’s something you’re prolly not used to having to do…’cept we have such high standards, ya know?
Come out to our t-gate if you can, and we’ll try to hook you up. BTW, do you have any particular songs you like to sing? Hawaiian would be good, but most of us are 60’s music junkies. Do you know any Beatles songs?
Oh…we do have an immediate opening for a Sax player!
Hehehe…see? We’re 😎
A-House,
I feel funny sometimes reading the “Home Grown” section in the sports page. But in all honesty I do not really read it much anyway… since seeing three local boys smiling with UCLA colors on…. ugh 👿
If they choose to go then, “best wishes”… until they return to face the REAL HOME TEAM!!!!
Hello again Nalani!
Serious biz. My nephew JJ Hanakeawe was your ‘Aloha’ Limo driver whenever you guys did your bay area gigs. He’s the reason why he and his partner went to the STRETCH Escalades! His smaller brother Kaipo is the lead singer of the Tsaiko band.
Come join us at the t-gate if you can. email me for details how to get to our Cabana spot. (kekoa22 over at the aol dot com place).
‘Sup, Tsaiko peeps!? Hi, ST!
Whooshing in to say hullo. The UH flag is flying high over Nii Hale, as it has since the start of the season. Our hopes too. Is it Saturday yet? 😀
What does allowing scholarship to lapse mean????
Why does homey taste like chicken???
Rain on Saturday? Oh Man…. i dont want to have to be a fair weather fan again and leave soaking wet at halftime…
lab rat – 18 more questions and al is gonna start calling you gigi-lab rat.
Hi Esme! Pretty soon I’m going to canvass the area and look for the Nii Hale.
Esme: “Whooshing in to say hullo.”
Is that a new accent you’re picking up from somewhere?
Sorry, couldn’t resist. 🙂
Blaze should redshirt.
Good to see M. Cox on the scene knockin’ out the degree.
BIK
A-House ~ You have to remember my Alaskan fisherman, some of those kids had to go elsewhere to play were discards from a previous administration and recruiting crew. Some were also not prime time players and a smaller school was better suited for them. So when you see them do well in the small confrences, that’s every mother’s son strapping it on to represent Hawaii anyway he could.
Now for the ones who got away, that’s different but sometimes when you peel away the layers of truth…well there’s prolly more to it. Home grown sometimes gets below the surface.
In the future, it looks like Coach Mack has his net set to haul in the best of the best local and Poly-wide players. I’m glad he has their academic interests at heart also.
homey what did you do to gigi???
17 more to go.
A-House, Kazz – I’m different from you 2 in that I read the homegrown reports because I do want to see how our local kids are doing at other schools. The desire to stay home and play for the home team does not matter to me. What matters is that they have the opportunity to further their education and make a difference in the life path that they take.
I’m sure we have many friends (Bulla, d1, Barry, etc) that have their sons or daughters attending school on the mainland and proudly playing for the school’s sports team. I will support them as I will support those who stay to become Warriors.
It doesn’t matter what color you wear as long as you remember where you came from.
homey? uh – oh …
*hurriedly taking down the flag*
*lol*
lab rat – 😆 psssst, it’s Rob25’s fault!
HOWZIT FRANK25!
Esme – actually I drove up in the area since I have to take my daughter’s friends home in that area but didn’t notice any UH flag proudly waving in the sky. Gotta send out my scouts to be on the lookout.
Homey,
I understand. Unfortunately for me I have had a few BAD personal experiences with people I know closely (outside da blog) that have opted elsewhere and have made it their personal “vendetta” to make sure that they get the word out for as many Hawaii kids leave home to play elsewhere and sad to say that the sole reason is for athletics.
That’s all I will say about that.
I do want to stress that I do skim through the “Home Grown” section but I don’t really have much of an interest in it. I don’t have kids and maybe if I do that will change my interest should he/she gets involved with athletics (that is there is any $$$$$ in the budget for ANY kind of athletic program for public schools left by then 👿 ) and they start thinking about their options.
For now, I only just have a vested interest in da green and white.
Speaking of “H’s”. I had my fourth UH magnet stolen off my car a few days ago…
Guess I gotta stop by the Ward Rainbowtique after work… again.
Kazz – I understand.
Kazz – I think you should get it permanently painted on!
Mrs. A-House – Take a look at this video! It has an orb!
If you have Oceanic Cable, tune in to CSTV to see June and SMU take on Tulane at 2pm. I must say that although I am a big fan of June Jones, I am taking great pleasure in watching all those rich SMU bigshots that threw a ton of money at him sweat it out now that SMU still sucks!
Auryte! See you all on Saturday.
Mrs. A-House –

Jack Flash – This time arrive earlier!
A-House (106),
Not much chance of that, unless they would be recruited by Hawaii one day, very far in the future. They have been fully assimilated into Mainland life, even though, my daughter tries to keep some of the Island culture alive. They even have become Gator Fans (shutter) through their school. ( Jacksonville is rabid Gator Country).
My daughter is a contract specialist for Navy Civil Service, currenly finishing her MBA and her future lies in Washington D.C. My grand children will therefore go to Mainland Schools to college.
As for me, provided a few things will work out for me a few years down the line, I hope to live 6 month in Hawaii and 6 month on the Mainland. We shall see how life plays itself out.
I rarely read homegrown report because I don’t follow those teams. It is good that the students are having an opportunity to get an education no matter where they come from or where they choose to go to.
I am a University of Hawaii sports fan. I support and have an interest in the students who choose to play for Hawaii no matter where they come from. And because I develop an attachment to these athletes. I try to follow their careers if they choose to go pro.
Reminder for those who can listen to the radio, the Wahine VBall game vs La Tech is about to start on 1420.
homey- i’ll try. But kids + wife = schmall kine slow. Wait… Don’t tell her I said that!
june jones playing new orleans and the superdome against tulane….i wonder if he misses that place…
Thanks Stretch for the reminder.
GO WAHINE!
lab rat – I also don’t follow the teams, I just follow the person. Any more questions?
Re: Homegrown Report
It is always good to read about the players from Hawaii and how they are doing at their respective mainland schools. Many of them did not have scholarship offers from UH or other Hawaii colleges. If they want to continue playing sports, they have to go the mainland. You can’t fault any of them for that.
Jack Flash – hahahaha! as long as you come then auryte!
How come SMU no mo silver helmts and pants???
16 to go.
3-0 wahine
Wahine 8-0!
Time out
Wahine 10-0
SMU receivers dropped 4 passes already.
Still too much wishy washy dilemas with our QB situation.
If I was coach, ( And lucky I’m not). I would stick to my guns, and put Graunke in from the start, no matter if his hand only functions 50 – 90%.
If it doesn’t work out, then the next best Passing QB. Alexander?
We’re not running against San Jose, so passing is the key.
GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Homey, Thanks for the Wahine Updates
Man, I need my fix. Not seeing them lately K5 is getting me down.
Wahine 15 – 6
Wahine 18 – 6 Timeout

Tulane scores on play action pass.
Set 2
Wahine 4 – 1
Howzit Gangee!!!
Thanks Homey for the Wahine updates, Welcome to Nalani to the craziness that is Tsaiko villas… ST, shouldn’t we roll out the red carpet, we have a star in our presence *bows down* Seriously though, it would be cool to write a song about the Tsaikos and maybe have UH play it for the players at the Football banquet at the end of the year… Maybe something our collective talents could work out… Kekoa, you from Kaneohe side? The name Kaipo Hanakeawe sounds SOOO FREAKIN familiar…Anyways, hop all are habing a grrrrreat day… I want to thank you..falletinme be mice elf again… that’s a classic!

Yellow card on LaTech…
Wahine 17-14

Wahine 18-14
Anyone notice when the Wahine plays a 5th game Leahey says “game 5 rally scoring”? Aren’t all games rally scoring!

Houston leads the Wahine with 15 kills.
Mitchell 3 for 11 passing.
Mitchell 4 for 12 passing. 3rd and 10 JJ runs the ball goes nowhere. End of 1st quarter.
Kamehameha vs. Punahou
Leilehua vs. Waianae
What a weekend for prep football!
Oops 3 for 12.
Hmmmmm…SMU offense looks similar to the Warriors. However, I foresee the Warriors changing that similarity this Saturday.
RE: Local talent.
Stretch summed it up best. Of course no one in their right mind can blame the kids for going elsewhere. We can’t keep all of them home.
But I’m in the same boat as Lab Rat. We are around UH all the time, we can visit them at practice and cheer for them in person at the stadium so the natural attachment is there and the pride for the local kids that stayed home is even stronger.
So for all the keiki that play elsewhere, best wishes and go represent Hawaii and NEVER FORGET YOUR HOME.
For da home team, “WE MUST PROTECT DA HALE!!!“
SMU 23 yards rushing, 29 yards passing first quarter.
Wassup all.
Nalani,
A 1000 pardons for not acknowledging our meeting this past weekend. Standing out in that sun really took a toll as I was already not feeling well going in. I was down for the count after that.
Your younger son and his buddies played well and came up with the win that day. Perhaps things might have been different if SLS had their 9’6″ QB taking snaps but, oh well, a better team would have overcome that. Now both teams can turn to their favorite past time- beating the Puns!
Anyway, it was nice meeting you and your hubby. Please continue to post comments here and maybe we’ll see you at the practice field!
Kazz – I agree with your post but for me it’s not only an attachment to the team but an attachment to the player. I personally know my kids friends who are playing on the mainland. As for the Warriors I personally know Cadiz and Andrews. Oh and Deptula for the Wahine soccer team.
3rd game…
Wahine 4 – 1
SMU is smuuuu’ing themselves.
Wahine 7 – 4
Hittle changes jerseys and is now a hitter.
Re: SMU
I was watching the first game that JJ coached SMU against Rice. Things looked so promising as the jumped out to a 13-0 lead. I thought that he was going to be able to have SMU heading in the right direction, but right now, it looks pretty bad.
Hawaii small place. If you live here long enough you have a good chance of a relative playing there. My cousin’s daughter plays on the softball team.
Timeout
Wahine 10 – 4
If Oreg. St. handles against USC, then I wont feel so bad about the Hawaii game.
Though I want to see USC play in the NC game….Come on Beavers, blanket the Trojans..haha
LaTech dinking their way back
Wahine 12 – 8
51 hours ’til Kick-off!
Really looking forward to this one!
Pride,
Pau study da playbook. Hoo-boy! Center is a tough position!
Plenny line calls:
“Koakane, move da cooler away from da fi-yah!”
“SteveM, Watch da alignment. Da desserts no go next to da rice!”
“Homey, Rob25 look like she going blitz da Jaeger!”
“Kekoa, watch da backside fo’ illegal tailgaters!”
Well, I shall get it done!
Mav,
If the Beavers smother the Trojans would that be just as good?
Or how about the Beavers ripping the Trojans apart? :P:
Ok that’s enough….
timeout again!
Wahine 13 – 8
Oreg. St is that Kiawe thorn poking through USC’s rubber slipper…!!!!!!!
Simmons is in along with Brandt.
Kazz, we can go on & on & on & on about the beaver vs. trojan comparison….
anyone feel free to relieve me before I need a cold shower!
Wahine 15 – 10
SMU 7 – Tulane 24 with 8 minutes to go in 2nd quarter.
Or St. leading USC 7 – 0, Or. St. running game looked real good on the drive.
Oregon State 7
USC 0
Wahine 17 – 12
Wahine 20 – 14
in regards to #186 — does ‘sc make the title game if OU and Fla/UGA go undefeated. i have hard time seein them go as much as i’d like to see their speed against sec speed, considering the Pac10 sucks and Ohio St and Notre Dame both look not to great this year.
Wahine 22 – 15
homey,
I thought you wrote, “LaTech drinking their way back.”
Understandable how that might impress you. 😆
It’s match point and the Wahine win…
25 – 16
d1 – no doubt that would be impressive! Nothing like southern moonshine.
NEO
No, I’m not from Kaneohe, but actually I have 2 Nephews that have that same name. The one you saw play music at the bash, who was raised in Monterey/Seaside/Marina, Ca. and now lives here in Kapolei.
The other Kaipo Hanakeawe was raised in Kaneohe and you see him on the HPU TV commercial earning his business degree. That one just left for the ‘sandbox’ with Frank 25 and company.
homey — thanks for the Wahine scoring posts!
Houston 21 kills .341 hitting percentage
Wahine hit .317 for the match and LaTech hit .022
I’m done.
touchdown Tulane. Leads 31 – 7.
Tulane is wearing green right?
Maverick ~ Thorn thru slippah. A painful reminder of what happened to me not long ago. I remember feeling so pleased with myself because I was able to stifle the scream so as not to sound like DPK.
yes tulane is green
half time still 31- 7. past two games SMU scored only 7 points each game and lost by more than 40 each game.
Kekoa – yeah but did you cry like James?
lab rat – on the bright side SMU does have one win!
oregon st beating usc right now.
and 2 tink da knuckleheads at espn thought smu would be the most improved team in america and go bowling, 😆
the bright side is they play Army next.
Trojans and Beavers…sounds pornish.
James? ~ I’ve only heard him scream one time and that was when Aunty Tita Leadfoot only threatened to stomp on his foot. That was more of a cry for mercy rather than a painful one.
Should be a classic matchup. R&S vs Wishbone. Both offenses not doing to good right now.
homey,
you’re testing the blog filters again aren’t you???
Homey,
Speaking of the Beavers vs Trojans
I keep calling Quiz Rodgers “Jizz Rogers”
By mistake of course
homey must be a hairy rubber match.
Homes, you made it sound like Filipino style pornish game hen. Which I like hot off the rotisserie grill.
Or by military standards –
“Roger that, Jizz”
:>
when does da other u.s.c. play da beavers, then wait for all da comments 🙂
Okay guys, I’m retiring for the day before chawan squeals on me.
TGIF soon!
i can’t squeal to no one.
no one listens to me. except when i don’t want to be heard.
Gotta drop off for a bit. Neighbor looking for his dog. He usually comes over to chase the frogs in our side yard when it rains. We’ll have frog legs tonite if I can stop him in time.
Dang. That OSU “touchdown” was not even close. There go the PAC/WAC officials again. Looks like USC will be WAC’d.
Hope everyone had a great day!
DUFFER: Is Kitchen Cook back in business? The latest Maui Wowie incorporates them in their new candy bar.♠
OSU 14
USC 0
Don’t worry about the calls in the game. The PAC 10 will come through as they must protect their investment in a National Champion. 🙄
Correction, the most improved team in America will be playing at home this Saturday night against San Jose State.
Wow…looks like the Trojans are having problems with the Beavers…
haha –
Flowmaster + Beavers = Trojans.
sorry again. This is 2 good.
Go Beavs!
Sorry, graduated from OSU 20 years ago.
Hope all traveling Tsai-ko’s and their families remain safe and sound!
Congratulations to M/M Bulla on their belated honeymoon. Whoo-hoo!!! Remember to go to the Beast’s games!!!
just remembering how loud it was in reser 12 days ago, i can only imagine how crazy it must be now.
Oregon state lookin guuuud.
da Trojans cannot get past the Beavers
If Quentin Beaver went to Oregon State then…..ahhh it’s too ezayyyy.
chawan – did you say something??
Thanks for all the luv from the Tsaiko Ohana. You guys are terrific. I went away for the day and came back to all kinds of aloha.
We will make the tailgate for sure, as long as I can find you guys. Shouldn’t be too hard. With the special parking changes we lost our spot from the last several seasons and were homeless the first game. So this is a nice option.
Lastly, I need a way cooler Tsaiko name…..any suggestions?
Howzit Tsaikos again!
Vincent Ching, or rather his partner Gifford Chang, thats who filed the protest under the Ching Nursery (parent company’s name). Ching’s nursery are nice old people who sell flowers. Vince is a housing kind contractor, I think.
So I’m guessing that Vince was really huhu with UH Procurement Office. Remember how they set out the bidding for just one month? I’m guessing he’s thinking the Procurement Staff at UH is a bunch of shibai. And he thinks of himself as a UH supporter, can drop Ben Yee and Na Koa’s names just like dat.
Vince is talking like he thinks he’s doing the State a favor. I just like tell Vince, go take a look at #36 above by WassupDoc.
Cuz, da truth is you stay messing with all us. We just like fix da field. now.
BUT TO DA UH STAFF, VINCE MAKES A GOOD POINT TO ME: I GOTTA TELL YOU, WHY YOU GET ONE CROWN AN GOING LEAVE EM IN DA GROUND?
i know, dats a side issue, but da bradda stay feelin like you guyz change da rules at da last minute. i wondah why he feelin like dat?
Nalani,
I can get you the tailgate info. Since it’s on Federal Property in the Richardson Field area, they will be checking “credentials”.
You may e-mail me at tsaikotailgate (at) gmail (dot) com .
OSU Beavers taking it to the Brothel…
Ooops. Meant to “The House”
stretch,
no, you just thought you did.
OSU should give us some credit for waking their season up and preparing them for USC. looks like we had more fans up there than USC does today.
USC is falling apart. Back to back personal fouls. OSU now ahead by three touchdowns 21-0.
See Vince, I stay trying for be fair and balanced.
But like I said, cuz, you stay messing with us, Warrior Nation, not just UH Procurement Office. Not this time, braddah, not this time!
You no mo lawyer, so no cost you $ right now, just time. But going cost you more then $ if you keep being undecided. I telling you right here, publicly, in a really nice way, pau already! Take on the next one, not this one. OK? Pretty Please!
btw, Gifford neva call. An I checked wit DCCA, he no mo lowyah. You can surely tell I stay holding back, because I want to believe you.
Meanwhile, lets go fix our field so we can feel bettah about ourselves and our team!
Go Warriors!!!!
Nalani… here’s some suggestions for you
“Kahai’s Mama”-Self Explanatory
“Lani from NaLeo”-Self Explanatory
“WarriorHarmony”-Your son plays for the Warriors and I think all us Tsaikos would agree that you and the ladies have some of the sweetest harmonies we’ve ever heard…
Jes my two cents…
NEO
Seriously…
OSU is ahead by three TDs?
Oh well…
The loss to the Beavers doesn’t look so bad anymore, does it?
With an out of sync offense it’s easy to lose by much.Once our offense gets it together, we’ll be just fine. This Saturday it begins !!!
Tom Mui,
The Maui Kitchen Cook was never out of business. It’s still a small mom and pop kind of store. Not wanting to expand etc. It has gotten expensive over the years. I can get you a box on my next trip over. No health food, but real ono.
Hey Nalani,
How about a contest for a blog name for you, winner gets a Na Leo CD?
Nalani-
If Kahai’s number is say, 55, you could roll as Mommy55. Just use whatever number he ends up with.
Other names:
“WarriorMom”
“K-Mom”
“N-Choy”
“AliceKnapper” 😉
WarriorMom is good because it covers both of yo keeds. If da younger one ends up at Hawaii, better yet! 🙂
Anyways, I won’t see you on Saturday, I’ll catch you at another fabulous TsaikoGate. Welcome to the Tsaikos! 🙂
Looks like SC needed to study a little more fo’ da ‘Quiz
ho boy,
OSU bussen up da trojanz. da mind, it all starts in da mind.
wuz listenin to Lou Holtz. His advice to da coaches, always hire good coaches, fire those who are not good coaches. you die by your staff.
Real good advice, Jim Donovan!
duffer-
Pau. I win already! j/k (or not) 😆
Good for da Beavers!
DPK
I don’t know about Mommy55….people might think she’s 55 years young! 🙂
I like WarriorMom!
#65 Kaha’i Choy
Nalani,
How ’bout: Still Luvz Local Boyz
Duffer – I thought Kitchen Cook went out of business – are they still in the warehouse down near the airport – behind Fisher Hawaii?
DPK, Duffer; I think we already have a WarriorMom, may have to check with SteveM on that.
“WarriorMom” or “Warrior_Maddah”?
Nah too “titta” da second one eh?
USC scored a TD after converting on a 4th and 9. Now 21-7 OSU 10:12 left in 3rd quarter.
What’s wrong with Nalani? I like it.
Nalani, welcome to the board.
See anyone you recognize in this photo?
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z24/WarriorMojo/Practice%208-04-08/IMG_2813.jpg
Could be because there’s no valet parking near Reser Stadium?
Ok… pau with the USC digs for today… as they’re doing a fine job of digging themselves in deep hole as it is already.
Game not pau yet though. Should be an interesting 2nd half.
Tom,
Yes, still there!
21-14 OSU. 3 minutes left in 3rd quarter.
Uh, oh.
Beavers seem to be tight this half.
the game is getting interested.
OSU seems to have lost the adrenaline flow from the first half.
No “WarriorMom” in my records of over 1,700 posters, although there are 21 names containing “warrior…”. But what’s wrong with Nalani? 😕
Hey, I just got a postcard signed by the Rainbow Wahine softball coaches with a picture of the WAC championship bracelets. Nice!
Beavs kind of looking like the old UH teams — running out of gas and adrenaline.
jason,
when was the presentation?
did i miss it?
I vote for Nalani. No one else with a blog name even close so that makes it unique.
Welcome to the blog, Nalani!!! Love the tight harmonies of the group. None better.
Chawan,
The bracelet presentation is scheduled during the halftime of the volleyball match vs LaTech on Friday Oct 10th.
I can’t remember if someone suggested a “Tsaiko-Outing” for that evening. 😉
Chawan_Cut . . .
Are you rusting yet?
Jason . . .
Why the card with the photo? Was it to publicize the bracelet presentation event?
Huh huh huh… Wafan said “tight”. 😳
Wow – this OSU/ USC game had a 25 pt. spread.
Kazz . . .
Ummmmm, I just wish the Beavs would loosen up for the 4th quarter. Their play is way better when they are loose and having fun.
Hey, looks like the OSU band is in the stands! Yahoo!
Wafan, Ur right. Time for them to play street ball. Colt and Posse style.!
OSU is handling without Slappy Sloughter
Homey,
I prefer the magnet as it does not do damage to the paint *should* I decide to sell or trade in my car. At least the tapa UA logos are on the glass as that shouldn’t do any damage.
I think I should stock up on the magnets as I seem to keep forgetting to take them off when I park my car and leave it unattended for a while.
wafan: I think they sent them to those that made contributions. It reads:
Regardless of the outcome of this game, we’ve learned a few things.
OSU IS A VERY GOOD TEAM, they just didn’t have their act together yet, just like the Warriors.
Penn State is damned good this year and will win the Big Ten.
The Warriors season will be be very good, plenty to look forward to. Once the offense fires on all cylinders, the rest of the team will catch on fire also, especially the defense.
And that’s why I love college football, you just never know…..
Uh oh… Maverick said a naughty word. 👿
Jason . . .
That is a nice thing to do. How did they get the addresses? From the cheques? What of those others who used cashier cheques? Hmmmmm.
SWEET! Can’t wait to get home and check the mail, BUT….. I think yours was personalized???? 😆
usc is in trouble.
they need a turnover.
IDK, but it was a really nice gesture. I looked at it, thinking, “An ad for Hawaiian bracelets?” Then I looked on the back, saw it was from the team, then looked at the picture again — sure enough, they say “2007 WAC Champions.” Hard to read, the green on gold.
Now, this is just crazy. First there’s the so-called “Riddler” character around UH/Dole St with an Uzi-like weapon; now, I got this in my e-mail inbox:
Star linebacker injured.
maybe because Jason is a student.
It is almost as if Rogers has been greased up. Those Trojans cannot hold on to him. Not that that is a bad thing!
I wish these announcers would stop talking about how OSU is going to win tonight. Talk about bachi!
Haha, yeah, I guess people on Lower/Makai Campus have heard of me! 😉
Lab Rat,
What star linebacker???
Ours? Or theirs?
Yay Beavs!
Go Greased Beavers!
OMFG! SC going down
Oh Oh.
game over!
Oh my! That was so close to a pick 6!
Beaver DL wears Tennis shoes?
6!
No answer fo’ da ‘Quiz!
Rodgers 14 yds short of a 200 yd. game.
Turn out the lights
Jason,Wafan; just checked my mail and got the postcard too.
So that’s how you rush the field… You get on the field BEFORE the end of the game.
Okay, now the announcers may brag about how they knew the Beavers defense was going to break the Trojans.
The better watch out for the long pass and run the clock.
Yahoo!!!
Not bad at all OSU… not bad at all…
😆
Oh man… how awesome is this. I’m not as elated as USC falling to Stanford last season, but this is good enough.
Oh Oh
getting more interesting.
its all on the onside.
I can see it now….
UH goes to Hawaii Bowl vs Oregon State… and beats the team that beat USC.
Of course, OSU will have to take a downward spiral in the PAC 10 to finish 6th for this to happen, but hey… ANYTHING can happen in college ball.
Wait what??? Oh I thought it was over.
Yee Haw!!
Maybe I’ll have to call my brother tomorrow – since both of our teams lost to OSU 😉
ok, now game over
Ronnie . . .
The stadium “security” is so anal about things I think it would be nearly impossible to get on the field that early. On the other hand, if thousands of people got over the fence at the same time, say at the 2-minute mark, there would not be enough security in the Wes’sai to do anything.
What are you or your proxy planning to do on Saturday? Will you be the leader of the field rush?
Man-o-man, I can hardly express how much better I feel, seeing what OSU is doing to USC.
But the old adage still applies, character and heart beats talent alone everytime. Nobody in college ball can show up anymore and win without a real fight.
now who’s #1???
florida? georgia vs alabama winner? lsu?
ho boy
you put da jizz on da beaver and
he wen jus rip da trojans.
Yeah. Two straight!!!
I will be able to sleep better tonight — much better than last week, anyhow.
party in corvallis tonight!
I like the way the Jacquizz Rodgers runs. Right when he is about to hit a defender, he always drops down to get lower leverage and drives. I noticed when UH played there and I just seen it on that last TD.
If Georgia beats ‘Bama, it’s gotta be the Bulldogs. That’s going to be a good game.
Time to check for cracks in my eyelids.
Did the announcer just say the Trojans went down to the Beavers?
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Looks like the “tradition” from last season’s mayhem continues.
THURSDAY NIGHT IS WHERE #1 GOES TO DIE!!!
Happy birthday John Fonoti! BTW, is it Foh-NOH-tee or Foh-noh-TEE? I heard the latter on the radio this morning.
wafan – well… since Pauoa Boy will be with us, I think anything is possible!
Wow
changes things a bunch…. go OSU
Oh yeah — the UH press releases say the former.
gooooooooooooooood evening all and congrats to the beavers on their victory ova USC.
Hehe, “Mike Cavanaugh-coached offensive line.” Gotta love Neil Everett.
yaaaH for OSU. stand up for dare community. rush da field. day all got checked befo day got to da stadium, so whats da big deal to get on da field except to celebrate for their team. UH an da TSA at Times Supermarket, and Aloha Stadium…
whats with all this hooey, to say “security” jus for saying “security:, just a bunch of hooeeee.
i say making noise to support your team is okay to support your team. if you going get blown up on da field, you could also get blown up in the stands.
oddawize we going spend all day trying for outfigure ourselves. plus, I hate a GED guy fo tell me no can no can. i don’t understand dem telling us no can, when OSU allows dare fans to can can.
maybe Aloha Stadium Security just not big time. sure seems like some around me not tinking big time. you know what i mean?
Um, did Graunke suffer a “face injury” recently?
Also, congrats to OSU. You wanna talk about turning your season around. Look out, undefeated Utah!
Howzit Aunty Ronnie…
Yups I no scared bum rush the field when we strangle the Fresno Puppies…
Rushing the field after the Boise State game was interesting.
Of course this was the first time I ever got to do such a thing but I remember the security “letting” people through the doors on the side in the end zone and then people got impatient and starting leaping over the wall and I remember the Rainbow Dancers looking lost and worried while trying to stop the crowd themselves!
Pauoa Boy,
When we beat Fresno State in their “house”, I think the best reaction is to all stand and give a “golf-clap”.
This is more so for their fans as if to say to them “all in a day’s work”…
Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
BowsForever,
I noticed that too about Graunke, either he getting false cracks or he not photogenic or bruddah just ugleh…
Plus wassup with Blaze Soares looking like Lou Ferrigno…
Kazz,
Das a good one but I thinkin with my adrenaline pumping cause of the fatal arse whoopin Fresno going receive I no tink so I can hold back… Ho going be nawts!
Eh is dat Mario Cox or dat singer T-Pain?
Happy B-Day to bruddah Fonoti…seems like he been on the team forever…
Happy Belated B-Day HiFlyer…
Pauoa Boy,
In fact maybe I should start drafting my BS letter to the media about how I felt my life was threatened while at their stadium.
I have noticed that the best way to make false and dramatic claims appear to be legitimate is to do the following:
-State that you are a frequent visitor to the location in which you plan to publically tarnish.
-State how much you have enjoyed your previous visits to the site in which you plan to trash to the public about.
-State how you also get involved with a few malicious activities while taking the stance that you know it’s wrong and you admit you are wrong, but then point out how others are worse than you for doing it.
-State how much you supposedly enjoyed the antics of the home crowd while you actually felt insulted by it. (This helps with the sympathy from people willing to believe it.)
-Identify as many ethnic minorities as you can while pointing out the supposed ratio between them and elderly people who will play the victims in your story. (This proves to be effective in certain areas of the US mainland.)
-Make it clear that you are also concerned for the well-being of the opposing fans as this will appear to take away any kind of bias people may suspect.
Do all of this in a complaint letter and people that were NOT in attendance are bound to believe you.
Ok enough about Fresno, SAN JOSE STATE is the immediate target!
John Fonoti,
MANUIA LOU ASO FANAU!
(I hope I got this right, or else I better get a good bodyguard.)
kazz,
i like your passion.
i hated that BS-er fresno fan too.
what a bunch of crock he wrote up and got the national media to jump on the bandwagon.
Eh,
Ainokea if Granke look like da Elephant Man… Jus’ as long as braddah plays wit hot (pidgin to english translation = “heart”) and leaves it on da field!
here’s tonights news
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zN5c6qIM6U
I don’t know what made me more upset. His BS claims or the fact that the local media ate it up. I had to listen to B.C. and Jeff Portnoy give their 0.02 about the “dangers” of Aloha Stadium and they didn’t even bother to try to challenge those accusations. Lord knows “controversy” sells and garners ratings and listeners right?
However I almost flipped out when Lois Manin stood up for our people when she said that she’ll take the accusations seriously but at the same time she was the only one that had the olos to say that “during a rivalry game, there are bound to be issues and false claims to make the other fans look bad” (not word for word, but this is the summary of her statement to KITV after the accusations).
KUDOS TO LOIS MANIN!!!
The people of Hawai’i are some of the BEST people in this country and while “people” like Cokie Roberts can go on saying that Obama vacationing in Hawaii is questionable because it “shows he’s not in tune with ‘American Values'”, we all know where this bias is coming from.
Well, if Hawaii doesn’t represent traditional American Values, then what the hell are “traditional” American values???? Obviously people like Ms. Roberts feel that family, respect, honesty, and humility are not part of “traditional” American values because quite honestly the people of Hawaii are the very definition of all of this. Hell, we set the standard!!!
BOOOOYAH!
(blood pressure = 180/115)
chawan where in the pnw are you?
ok, time to sleep

Medic … medic … Where is James when you need him? Get to Kazz’s house, please.
chawan_cut: Good night. I’m sending over some of our heat to you via FedEx. Send me some of your cold.
Thanks, as always, chawan_cut, for your news clips, much appreciated.
chawan not asking what you doing…… asking where in da state are you ie city, county, rural, suburbs
By the way, it was mentioned earlier about Graunkes looks. He got his face scraped up pretty good in the OSU game.
Hiya!
Welcome, NALANI! So good to see you on the blog!
floridated,
you’re welcome. i’m abroad too, so i’m glad i can help out others out there like me.
koakane,
if i tell you, i’d have to kill you. well, not really, but send over koamahu for a “visit”.
jason,
thanks, but no worries. the forecast is supposed to get better next week. you could send over some other stuff, but that wouldn’t be possible.
ho boy, I’m coming to the SJSU game in high spirits
😆 😆 😆

Chawan – i can come over and keep you real warm. mmm mmm good!!!
Happy Birthday John Fonoti!
Koakane,
You going back to the cabana aftah da game?
Aloha to da Ohana!
I agree with SteveM and Fla Ted…it don’t get any better than “Nalani”. Changing to another name is like making a wet bird fly at night…duh.
Could not believe my eyes as I watched as I watched a 5’6″ (my size) midget completely flummox the USC defense. And a freshman too! Hats off (and a deep bow) to OSU and their Coach Cav led O-line. Can’t forget their defense…ferocious! Afalava was on fire!
Good to see Kekoa on board again. Must be feeling bettah! Rest up for Saturday, my bruddah!
D1
I heard that Koakane was bringing his sleeping bag for after the game, “jus in case”.
Happy Birthday Hiflyer. Hope your birtthday brings you good health.
Hi Wena. How are things going with the school? Hope it won’t be too long before everything is settled. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
d1 yea cause BG making soup for whom ever comes back. so some of us decided to keep him company till then.

Good Evening Tsaikos!!
Sorry – off topic
Just got home from the Aina Haina Neighborhood meeting with the new owners of the Shopping Center. Pretty interesting what the owners and some of the attendees were saying. Both sides have to “walk the talk”. Owners are committed for the long term and will spend the money to renovate. The residents want Foodland, 76 gas station, McDonalds, Jacks…. I hope that the residents support the tenants after all the renovations are done and the rents are higher.
Welcome Nalani!
I would go with your own name for a blog name. It’s nice.
kk, sounds like its going to be a late niter. Good thing we’re coming a bit later in the afternoon. The day won’t seem as long then.
Is it any cooler on the wesside? it’s soo hot and brilliant me decided to bake cookies tonight. What a mess, the kitchen it so hot that the cookies are taking long to cool. I have cookies all over the place.
myki – if the cookies are ruined, give them to me and I will take care of throwing away….
Hi Myki,
Oh..the preschool. We are waiting for “zoning”. They say they have 40 something cases still on their desk, and they are short staffed. Hopefully someone in “zoning” will read this and pass us already.” Little Learners Preschool”
One of my church friends says he waits like 6-8 months for zoning. I can’t believe how hard starting a business is.
My daughter will be at the UH game….UH student cheering section. Hope it doesn’t rain!
Stretch, you have a deal. If any are left after the game you are welcome to dispose of them.
Hang in there Wena, it will be worth the wait!
Stretch ~ Is there a breakfast place called “Jacks” in the Center?
Kekoa – it is THE Jacks that people talk about.
For those of you wondering about Tyler’s “facial injuries”…helmet + chin strap = lacerations. Welcome to the wonderful world of football. Now, you’re going to ask why don’t all players have these? QB’s helmets/chin straps have to be slightly looser than others so that they can call the plays. This makes them irritate the skin. That’s why so many quarterbacks keep the unshaven look…ie: Favre, Colt, etc.
Just an fyi…
Go Warriors!!
Wena: Tell your daughter to be smart, and to help others be smart too. No cheering when UH is on offense. Yell loud constantly when UH is on defense. 🙂
Stretch ~ Someone had suggested a BCC be held there one Sunday. Is there enough room to hold the Tsaiko crew?
myki not dat bad but nothing like drinking a gallon of ice wata and having the ac on to cool off. 😀
naaaaaaaaaaaa if we can hang at Ige’s for 14 hours saturday going be easy.
Great Obama Rally at Kailua High School and even nicer was getting the mahalo postcard from the softball coaches.
Congratulations to the Wahine and on to victory Warriors.
Just saw the Aina Haina meeting that Stretch described on the news. Recognized Aina Haina school cafeteria and remembered eating many lunches in the shopping center shops–everyone except Chucky-E-Cheese’s.
Didn’t remember Jack’s looking so large inside–did they expand in the last 10 years? First time I went to Jack’s was a breakfast pre-meeting the morning the parents and I started to network Aina Haina school in the early 90’s.
Ching’s Nursery can appeal to circuit court, but as WassupDoc has pointed out, because DCCA issued a ruling dismissing the appeal, UH can start construction on Ching/Cooke Field immediately.
Stretch ~ Say it ain’t so!…Chuck E. Cheese is getting the boot out of the center? Wow!…that is hardcore changes by the owners. Guess they didn’t what all those criminal element kids hangin’ round and jackin’ cars from out of da center.
And yes, it’s hot here in Salt Lake too.
jason I no kea if the students yell all da time because at least they at the game, having fun and supporting the team. seen too many game where the students were getting the shaft and started to dwindle because they got no luv. I like to see the old atmosphere come back where the students in back of team and yelling their head off. this is college ball and at times we forget that its not only the fball players that make up UH but the oddah students to. they earned the right to be there and enjoy the game however dey like as long as no one get physically hurt.
Hot here on da wessai of Kauai too. I fell asleep after dinner & just woke up to get the dishes done and food put away.
Jacks on the weekend would not be a good place to have a CC. Place is too crowded and pretty small. If it is a group of 4, that would be okay but anything more is a problem.
Kekoa – hey now, I used to be one of those kids who used to hang out at Chuck E Cheese after school. They are going to move to the City Square in Kalihi.
I have no problem with folks having fun — as long as they don’t make noise on offense. I want a large, boisterous, and intelligent student fan base. Or is that too much to ask from UH students? (Sometimes I wonder …)
FloridaTed, KonaGirl — thanks, I sorta get it. Only thing is, if you compare against the Sept. 22 photo of Graunke, well, he looks like he fell face-first sometime in the past three days.
Unless the poor guy has a _nasty_ case of lozalized acne or something.
OR MAYBE…more Mack trickeration. “Coach Tomey, did you see the WB blog? Graunke’s looking pretty beat up these days!” 😛
lozalized >> localized. I have no idea how that happened.
Ha!…Stretch, I can’t imagine you doing anything unlawful. Your mom seems like she would be pretty hard to run from!
Myki ~ Your cookies would be a welcome relief in any weather! (I figure if I schmooze early enuff, I’ll get to help dispose of the cookies).
Wena ~ I’ll talk to W/doc – Tom Mui – and BHF2 at the t-gate. They’re the team you need to send to that zoning office to shake things up! It shouldn’t take so long for something so vital for a community to have.
Auwe! Any of you 3 up and lurking? Any other Tsaiko’s work in city offices that could help make a phone call to the right person? Wena put a lot of time and money into this project, let’s see what we can do to help.
Well I guess usc lost makes our lost a little better looking.
Cookies done, dishes washed, kitchen clean. I guess it’s time to go to bed.
Good night all !
…ahhh, myki…. nah, never mind… 😳
jason you need to lighten up. intellegent UH student in the classroom yes but one needs to be a loud and boisterous fan at athletic events without being labeled unintellectual. (time and place) and I wonder
Nitey Nite and Sweet Warrior Dreams!
nite lizk see you at sat tgate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,comming? if so we de dea by 11.
kekoa if you lurking what time you planning to be at tgate? need the fire for the oysters? how are the buggas going be shuked? and we need to bring our own secret sauce or you bringing dat also.
wow we must be in the navy portion now ……. think this is the silent service branch.

Koakane ~ I was just going to bring extra coals just in case no nuff. Use da grill ovah deah. Got some Korean hot sauce. I’ll bring some tools.
You still bringing extra ice? I wish we still had our truck. Every week da load gets heavier. I’ll be there early, drop some stuff, and den go pick up Liz at 11:00 AM and come back, ’cause she might need to go somewhere.

sup al you and son making a reappearance on sat? pride go be rolling in at 2 he said
well the sub is submerged and running silent so might as well turn in. good nite to the pueo’s
stay well and enjoy esme whoooooooooooooooosh
yup. we will be there.
early season hype – lots of depth meant lots of PT for more players, coach mac would be rotating players unlike JJ…last week, Fonoti and Veikune took 80+ reps of the 86, no report on Sol and Adam…what happened to Allen-Jones and Purcell and anyone else on the trip at DE…ST reports Lane took all the reps at OSU- what happened to the fresh legs hype…just wondering out loud since everyone is running silent and deep tonight.
Good morning everyone! And, a happy Aloha Friday, too!!!
Well, tomorrow is the day we begin our defense of the WAC title. Yeah!
Wow, the playroom is empty.
I’ve always thought that the best Hawaii team that I have seen in recent years was the 2006 football team. I sort of gave them a slight edge over the 1992 team. That is just my opinion.
There is however a computer ranking system that rates all of the college teams every week and then at the end of the year comes up with a final rating. Those ratings would give the edge to the 1992 team. Here is the top eleven UH teams.
1992 – 18th
2007 – 20th
1981 – 23rd
2006 – 26th
1988/1989 – 30th
2001 – 40th
1984 – 41st
1980 – 46th
1986/2002 – 49th
My favorite is still that 2006 team though. I really enjoyed watching them play.
Hawaii was rated 60th, before last night’s game in Corvalis. With OSU beating USC, we will get a higher rating after we beat SJSU this week.
That ’88/’89 team with “Mento” Maeva and the gang was exciting to watch. Those were fun times.
morning gang!
happy aloha friday
good morning Pride. – 2006 team was one of my favorites too, they beat a lot of good teams that year
Got to watch a little bit of that football game last night between USC and Oregon State. Congratulations to Joe Seumalo and Coach Cavanaugh for getting their respective lines prepared to play. At this point, both teams know their techniques, plays, coaching points, and opponent’s tendencies. At some point in time, someone has to make the decision to go out and not take crap from anyone and just hit somebody. The Beavers made that decision before the game that they would dominate the line of scrimmage. The Beaver’s expected to dominate the line of scrimmage and that is what they did. Don’t misunderstand me, that little guy carrying the ball is one hell of a ball player but, the game was decided by the big boys up front. OSU decided to play football. USC decided that they wanted to hurry up and get on the plane so that they could go back home to L.A. and watch ESPN shower them with praise like they did all last week(Long sentence).
ohio!
Yeah you’re right Loa.
For all the old timers, another one of my favorite teams was the 1973 team. That was the last year in Division 2 for Hawaii. The first year that Hawaii started earning a D1 rating was in 1974. Dave Holmes was the head coach in 1973, with a 9 and 2 team that beat the Washington Huskies in Seattle. I believe those were the Sonny Sixkiller days in Seattle.
Morning Chawan and Loa.
Good Morning Tsaiko Family!
Happy Aloha Friday!
Pride. – my son’s metal shop teacher was on the 1973 team.
~•~Good Morning Tsaikos and Warrior Nation!!! ~•~
I don’t see the UH vs. SJSU game listed on the ESPNGameplan schedule for this weekend! I think it’s been dropped, or it was never really planned. Off-island Tsaikos will have to pick up the Oceanic feed, listen to 1420, or follow the game here – on the Warrior Beat! 😮 😯 😥
Hiya~
Hi gang! Hiya Ronnie! – Re: my 427 post –
Please tell me I’m wrong….. 😮 😯 😥
Ronnie…you got mail…Good Morning
Good Morning brew….
Good Morning ST and the Tsai-kos!
ST, re Summerlin…wear clean underwear! 🙂
Pride. – 1973 – Dr. Kaloi’s freshman year? was Elton Shintaku also on that team?
Wierd. I typed Aloha Kakahiaka and the blog said it was a duplicate comment and wouldn’t post it!
Hiya Liz – Look at your post #8!
Oh – and you don’t get to jump in and tell me that I’m wrong! You did plenty of that in OR. 😆
Yes I believe officer Elton Shintaku was on that team.
Ronnie, what is your son’s shop teacher’s name.
I have a guy that works with me who claims that he was on that team. I think that he’s pulling my leg, because I never heard of him? Has anyone ever heard of this guy by the name of Levi Stanley?
Why are you Tsaikos up so early? Is it Saturday yet? 😀 😯 😆
Okay – I’ll admit it… I’m also looking forward to the Alabama at Georgia game tomorrow! 😀
Morning, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.
Well, now we know that all our team needs is a few parts to work properly and we’re off and running. Off course, those parts are very important. We’ve lost to two excellent teams and yet, looking a little closer, we’ve showed glimpses of what we can be when all parts are working.
This Saturday I’m really looking forward to see that all the necessary adjustments have been made and we’ll start to roll as defending WAC champions.
Amazing how this game has taken on huge importance. The Oahu fans better show up in droves and support the Warriors, otherwise better not complain.
This is it, GO WARRIORS, show your mettle !!!
You guys crack me up.
12th man is going to make a big difference this week.
We are entering the second quarter of the season. We need to build momentum to get us through these tough two quarters coming up. This week is a big must win. It needs to be similar in effort to last year’s Boise State game.
Crowd needs to be ready to rumble, and the team will respond.
Levi Stanley – hmmm, that name sounds familiar 🙂
Oh wait – BREW – You’re WRONG! (again…)
I now see the game on the ESPN college football scoreboard, and they show the ESPN Gameplan (and 360) symbol. Sorry that I panicked earlier when I didn’t see it on my DirecTV listing or on two other usually reliable sources. 😳 😀 😳
hi brew!
Yeah- your 427- You;re wrong as per your 433…
Bwahahaha!
Pride- it’s much more fun than watching us in person…
(silence)
😆
Our team needs to learn how to play with intensity. OSU had intensity, and USC didin’t. Weber State played the first half with intensity, and Hawaii didn’t.
As fans, we can kokua our Warriors and give them an example of what it means to play with intensity by cheering with intensity. That is how we can make ourselves a part of the team.
That should be this week’s motto, high intensity. Play with a high level of intensity.
Pride. – his name is Dennis Walters. He mentioned that he played when June was a backup QB.
Brew – whew… you scared me for a second! Hopefully ESPN 360 will show then entire game, unlike the Weber St game where we lost most of the second half! Thank goodness Garret let me watch his TV using his slingbox!!!
Actually, brew’s “wrong” turns ended up being ok… luckily my niece was navigating from the back seat and out us right.
Brew even kept me away from the stadium long enough to allow the Warriors to score against OSU. One I got to my seat, it was all over…
And I nevah take up wafan’s invitation to see a man about a horse to give da team a chance…
Bwahahaha!
Oops, time to start working. Esme and out. Whoooooooooooosh.
sorry for the typos, typin the da dark w/o glasses…
Actually, brew808 is a very devoted and generous Tsai-ko of the bes’ kine.
Fun to tease with like xs-homey but waaay more secretive.
😆
Hi Ronnie!!!
HI PRIDE.!
Hey….. I don’t like lines or crowds! Just because everyone is making a left turn and all the signs say go that way…. doesn’t mean we have to also! Oh, I forgot…. driving Mz. Lizzy! 😈 😯 😆
Hi Liz!
Brew,
For some reason ESPN doesn’t show it on either the Warriors or SJSU’s schedules like they were earlier in the week, but it does still show up in their master schedule for the weekend. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/schedules Who knows? From what Comcast told me they don’t get programming info from ESPN until sometime Friday or even as late as Saturday morning. I know my TiVo has never picked up the programming info until Friday night at the earliest (with repeated forced calls.) Crossing my fingers.
Happy Aloha Friday gang. Yea baby ! Manana is knocking on the screen door for a Warrior Victory.
What if Hawaii had to play OSU after they beat USC, instead of before?
Would like to hear from our coaches on a their point of view for that gameplan.
I watched most of the Oregon State game last night (I was not brave enough to pre-empt Grey’s Anatomy for fear of wife reprisals). It made me feel a whole lot better about the game two weeks ago. As Pride highlighted they dominated the USC lines and pretty much ran at will. They also held McKnight to like 10 yards rushing, which makes our rushing performance not so bad, especially considering the injuries.
They also did it largely without Sammie Stroughter, who was gimpy most the game. Impressive. Good luck to the Beavs. If Florida wins the SEC and OSU finishes high in the PAC-10 it certainly can’t hurt us.
Oh oh….Ronnie is ignoring me again…. Can you share your Fresno plans w/ me (email)? I pulled the plug on my big group drving to raisin country. Our work schedules have changed (24/7 operations) and most of my pals really do work (unlike me). Please let me know if there are one or two tix available with your gang. I might still be able to sneak off and drag one buddy. Please…. 😀
Time to get ready for work…
latahs!
Howzit expat! Kind-of nerve-racking not knowing (for sure) if the game will be carried on ESPN Gameplan or not. Last year, I had both GP, and H-Tel so it wasn’t a problem. I still don’t know of anyone successfully getting the Oceanic feed for the WeberSt game. I did successfully buy and watch the BoiseSt. v-ball game last Sat. It was a high-quality feed, and of course the results were terrific! I’ll have to keep all my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for tomorrow’s game….. 😀
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Happy Birthday to UHFan808!!
Happy Aloha Friday to All!!
Pride and expat are right on with their analysis of the OSU victory over the former #1 trojans. I would add one more observation – the gang tackling (especially in that 1st half) was AWESOME! That’s the way the Warriors need to play –
F•U•L•L•O•U•T••••F•U•R•Y!!! 😀 😯 😆
HAPPY BIRTHDAY UHFan808 🙂 🙂 🙂
Hi Brew! I wasn’t ignoring you, it was just the second paragraph of my response to Pride. I would never ignore you, you’re one of my Reno buddies!!!!
I’ll send you an email about Fresno.
Happy B-day

What I liked best about OSU’s victory over USC is that all 4 touchdowns were scored by the Rogers brothers. They had two each. I wonder if that can be a new statistic – like “Most touchdowns scored by brothers in the same game”…
Happy Birthday to UH Fan808! 🙂
So how old are you again, young lady? 30? 24? Sumfin like dat? 😆
Greetings and Blessings Warrior Nation!
Most Touchdowns Game – 7 – Rashaun Woods, Oklahoma St. vs. SMU, Sept. 20,2003
Does that count? He is a “brother”! 😀 BTW – he was a #1 pick by the Niners and a BUST! 😀 😯 😆
chawan – You’re welcome!
Enjoy, cherish, whatever…
Again…You’re welcome! 😀
BTW – there was a discussion of you playing OL on some team? I’d like to see your Lego playbook! 😀 😯 😆
Hiya Brew!
Funny how some people make such an indelible impression on your daily activities. Your name, for instance. Everytime I pour myself a nice cold ‘brew’ – I expect some wild man to jump out of nowhere and knock me on my a$$ in F-U-L-L O-U-T F-U-R-Y! Bwhahaha!
I’ll have to keep my head on a swivel at the T-gate, and my back to the wall. Oh…and lucky me! I’m driving Mz Lizzy! 😎
brew,
not sure about OL. here i am trying to lose weight. i think the only person i could block is maybe midori7.
brew – did you “earn” your shotglass??
No act, you like tackle her….
Happy birthday UHfan808! Sorry I won’t be there to celebrate with you guys tonight.
Stephen: Hehe, “Hello Jim and Kekoa.” No need to correct your son, it’s nice to make blog shoutouts on the radio! Although, it’s Jamie and Kekoa … 😛
brew808: Ugh, don’t remind me about Rashaun Woods. That was one of my worst calls — I heard everyone saying, He’s not fast enough, but I stubbornly thought he had deceptive speed, and I liked him at the end of the 1st round. And … ouch. 🙁
koakane: We’re going to have to disagree here. I don’t think it’s too much to ask folks not to yell on offense. Fans have to be the 12th man — they need to help the team, not hinder. Isolated fans around the stadium yelling might not hurt too much, but when you have bunches of students with Thunderstix … IDK how it sounds to everyone else, but it’s pretty loud to me, even when I’m listening to the radio broadcast with my earphones.
I think it’s telling: You have the cheerleaders telling folks to be quiet, you have fellow students telling people to be quiet (multiple times!), and sometimes, the players signal the fans to be quiet. But they don’t pay attention.
eh! New post is up!
now that would be considered holding and a 10 yard penalty. can’t have stupid penalties to put the offense in bad field position!
