Warriors plan Kauai trip

The details are not finalized, but it appears the Warriors will be conducting a scrimmage/practice on Kauai on April 20.

The Warriors have made a spring appearance on a neighbor island in each of the past few years.

The event further strengthens the ties between the program and the Garden Island. Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho is a former UH player. He was among the first to reach out to the program after Norm Chow was hired as head coach a year ago.

Chow had planned to name Carvalho as an honorary captain for a game this past season, but the arrangement was not completed because of scheduling conflicts. Chow said Carvalho will be an honorary captain for a 2013 game.

How does one leave a conference before they even played one game in it?

College football has gone to a whole NEW level of STUPID… and most people accept it and drooling for more. 🙄

No wonder aliens didn’t invade to bring about the end of the world… They’d be wasting their time meddling with vastly inferior intellects on this planet.

  57. A-House December 21, 2012 12:25 pm

goodness gracious great balls of fire – wonder how many other 4* and 5* players are faced with a similar situation?

many accolades in high school and high ranking by sports magazine/analysts/etc expecting to be playing from day 1 only to ride the bench – ego must hurt —–

better to take a 1* or 2* and mold them into NFL draftable players after their senior year – notice I said after the senior year — too many times a player in football or basketball or baseball gives up college because some one rated them “highly” draftable only to be non-selected during the draft and must go “free agent route” – then find that the coaching staff pay very little attention to those in this category — unless the player is a 1st or 2nd round pick there are no guarantees – few exceptions like Tom Brady who was selected in the 6th round.

  58. al December 21, 2012 12:27 pm

1 july is when bsu and sdsu are supposed to be full fledged members.

either they return to the mwc or form a new one with others of the mwc and possibly byu. however, byu could be the draw but it is also the obstacle with its tv channel.

    money talks

    people walks

  59. A-House December 21, 2012 12:27 pm

    Travel subsidy:

does Fresno and Reno get the travel subsidy even if they joined the MWC same time as UH?

  60. al December 21, 2012 12:32 pm

ahouse…i was just throwing that out there. there is no tie to him at this point, however, it could happen. afterall, we are successful with bouncebacks, comebacks, and i’ll take you backs.

mike edwards, tony grimes, for example, and almost got two more former 4-5 star quality guys in jt turner and demar dorsey. too bad, the latter two couldnt qualify academically, huh?

like i always say, if you don’t ask the prom queen to the prom you will never get a shot. but, if you ask, what’s the worst case scenario….”no”? if no, then move on to the head cheerleader and so forth. moral of the story “no ask no get”. learned that one a long time ago.

  61. al December 21, 2012 12:35 pm

ahouse…while it is true many nfler’s were no star, 1 star, etc. before you can bend me, mold me, form me anyway you want to…

  63. A-House December 21, 2012 12:48 pm

    al:

guess every player, no exceptions, come with some “baggage” – some very, very light/small where others it would take a 2 1/2 ton truck

with the limited number of scholarships available, Coach Chow must look “all the ripples in the pond” before extending an offer or get a backlash should the player not meet expectations.

that’s one thing in the Army that I had no choice to accept – every soldier assigned to my unit must be accepted and see how it goes.

since I mention the military, a slogan was “hurry up and wait” – only thing worse than this is going to a medical appointment – get there and told to sit in the reception area – wait and wait and wait – finally called and taken to a room – nurse does her thing and tells you to wait for the doctor ———— I waited nearly 40 minutes today before the MD finally showed up.

reminds me of MasaBoy who got a dog bite and I took him to Wahiawa General – we waited damn nearly an hour before I told the emergency staff either they treat him or we leave – all the while the doctors and nurses were having a ball talking and laughing – told them I was going to file a complaint with hospital management – which I did.

  84. Derek December 21, 2012 2:25 pm

It makes more sense if Boise State and SD State stay in the MWC. There should be 2 divisions, North and South.

North Division – Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, Boise State, Utah State, Nevada (Reno) – 6

South Division – Hawaii, San Diego State, Fresno State, New Mexico, San Jose State, UNLV (6)

We are talking about football only and I think this a a perfect set up with 2-6 team divisions. Winners of the 2 divisions, play for the conference title at a venue to be determined. Each team plays every team in it’s division and 3 other teams in the other division for a total of 8 conference games. Each team can have 4 non-conference games for a total of 12 regular season games, except Hawaii who can schedule one more non-conference game due to the Hawaii exemption for a total of 13 games.

A team who goes undefeated at 13-0 or 14-0 would be surely in line for a BCS bowl game and possibly be in a playoff game if the team is very strong and highly ranked. If a team goes through the season with only 1 loss, it can possibly make it to a BCS game, like Northern Illinois did this year. By sticking together and getting better teams in the conference, the conference will improve it’s reputation. This is just my opinion and trying to make sense of all the movement taking place. Staying the Mountain and West regions makes geographical sense too. That’s way it’s the Mountain West Conference. Wow! Too much logic.

i saw that article earlier about colorado st and new mexico.

what amazes me is that both aren’t the meccas of football to begin with.

colorado st is the third football in a state that has colorado and air force well ahead of it.

new mexico, do people even though that they play football in this state?

i guess being proactive is better than sitting on your duff. instigate the idea to avoid exclusion is a great game plan for these two programs.

there would be no problem for the mwc to get aggressive and bring back bsu and sdsu. that would thwart the efforts of col st and new mexico.

byu is a big carrot to dangle as well.

marketing department or whoever should devise a package ticket plan for those buying single game tickets.

for example, next year they could package USC with either CSU, SDST, or Wyoming.

That way the USC fans also buy tickets for the shitty other game.

    This is nothing new.

BCS schools have been doing it for years.

It’s not illegal and it generates revenue.

Bottom line is tickets being sold.

It would work better if the game is on a saturday evening.

I think for sure, ben jay should get UH a money game at Ohio State. at least 1.5 million would be nice.

Why would any school want to form a conference with Boise St? At the first chance to improve their lot, Boise St. will bolt to a BCS conference at the blink of an eye. Loyalty is not a word in Boise St’s dictionary.

Bottom line is tickets being sold.

It would work better if the game is on a saturday evening.

I hope Ben Jay doesn’t have to be sat down on the mauka orange 50 yard line at 2:00 pm on a sunny day in late August in order to figure out why ticket sales slump. 👿

Pastor John McMartin finds scripture verse that shows water is in Hell. Luke 16:19-31 And in all this, between us and you a great chasm has been established, so that those wanting to cross hence to you may not be able, nor yet those thence may be ferrying to us. The second “pass” verse 26 is [Gk: .Diaperao = THROUGH-OTHER-SIDE, and is used of passage over WATER] hence, “ferrying over WATER” Water is in HELL. WOW!

It is written in our contract with the MWC that Hawaii will not have to pay travel subsidies to any member joining after Hawaii.

Existing and new potential members can do another airport meeting but I would find that hard to believe.

This is the wrong place to post this.

I knew it. Donna MK has applied for Senator Dan’s seat. She’s a shrewd one. She knows she doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell to get it. Her real aim is Hanabusa’s seat.

Being the queen of media grabbing, a move such as this will put her name in the public eye again. She’ll run in the special elelction if Hanasusa is selected.

Shinsaki(instant respect) or Tulsi(the future) are the two best choices for the good of the people.

  121. tommui December 21, 2012 7:51 pm

    cocobean re #121

Tulsi would be good as she is young, capable and will be around for a long time, God willing, and the electorate willing. she can build up a lot of seniority.

While each state has only two senators, Hawaii also only has two representatives – compared to say, New York, which has something like 43-45 so seniority really matters.

Manase Hungalu commits to Oregon St. Interesting that I never really heard of him. Nice size though.

  124. Not an Expert December 21, 2012 8:40 pm

The MWC has been able to restructure their TV contract. The change is that the MWC can sell their games to possibly 2 other networks. Thus allowing the conference to bring in more money. CBS will continue to be the primary rightsholder. The current contract length will remain expiring in 2015 to 2016.

If Boise recommits to the MW than it can also trigger another option allowing the MWC to syndicate games.

The report seems a little vague. There are some believe that Boise will not go to the Big East.

Chicken Grease is counting milestones today.

Heh, thanks for clairfiying for al, SteveM. A Grease shoulda’ put in a translation of kyoo. Gomen. 🙂

A Grease has said before . . . I mean, wasn’t exactly a Rubik’s cube puzzle to figger out when admitting to both of Hawaii’s senators “getting up there in age.” The local Dems needed to formulate a game plan lonnnnnnnnnng time ago. Now, it seems like all kapakahi wit’ d’is vote they gotta do.

I think even the shipyard workers telling each other, their friends, and family, “nyahhh, no worry” are in fact WORRIED. Who takes over Inouye’s “3rd place in line”? Senator Patrick Leahy — “Batman” fan (he appears in The Dark Knight; Heath Ledger’s The Joker harasses Leahy’s character directly in the Dent fund-raising/party scene) representing, eek . . . Vermont. If a Grease isn’t mistaken, wasn’t THAT part of the country trying to convince gov’ment their better aptitude (and need) for shipyard work-ness?

Best they can do is . . . reappoint Dan Akaka, (a Grease’ll say it — I don’t think he was ready to leave yet) whose sole goal would be to somehow perennialize (izzat a word? Oh, well) seniority for Hawaii.

    Yeah, even sounds undoable.

A Grease means . . . if it can’t be done even with a Hawaii-born president in office right now? Well. Looks like CINCPAC’ll be requesting repairs, gulp, from more toward the East Coast.

Probably a more representative way of how most of you have allowed government to work so inefficiently, anyway. Cross your fingers (we still have THAT left last time a Grease checked.)
