Ingram invited to Senior Bowl, NFL combine

Long-snapper Jake Ingram has been invited to participate in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., and NFL combine in Indianapolis. He is only one of two long-snappers invited to those elite evaluation events. “I’m honored,” said Ingram, who is training in West Lake, Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles.

Destin “D-Stew” Stewart, an all-state receiver from Oklahoma City’s Douglass High, has accepted a football scholarship from the Warriors.
Stewart said he is 6 feet 4 and 200 pounds, and is capable of running 40 yards in 4.5 seconds.
Despite playing in a run-oriented offense, he was named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s 2008 All-State team as a receiver.
In addition, he was named to the Daily Oklahoman’s All-State second team as a punter.
He also was the Trojans’ top safety.

• Running back Daniel Libre has submitted the necessary documents to apply for an extra season. Now he awaits a ruling from the NCAA.

• Jovonte Taylor is expected to return to Hawai‘i this week for the start of the spring semester. In October, he received a medical approval to withdraw from fall-semester classes after suffering from an undisclosed illness. He is now healthy, and ready to participate in the offseason conditioning program.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but Melila Purcell III re-signed with the Cleveland Browns. He spent the past two seasons on the Browns’ practice squad.

Did we mention that any student enrolled in the UH system gets into men’s volleyball matches for free? The whole season?

finally a tall WR with speed… now lets see them stretch the field and use him to exploit the defensive secondary…

Word on the street is these signings will open the way for Greg Salas to play some slotback.

  5. Richie January 7, 2009 2:49 am

Great news, ST, about the recruit.

I was also happy to see that Veikune and Mouton were invited to the NFL combines. Any word on their training plans for the combine.

A typical wet PNW morning to all!

  10. wafan January 7, 2009 4:16 am

    Heck, top 10, too!

  11. wafan January 7, 2009 4:18 am

good to see a tall WR coming in. Yeah, this could be a really good thing if they have time to actually throw down field.

  12. wafan January 7, 2009 4:20 am

    dj . . .

Did they roll you out from the cc? Dang, that is some good food!!! Of course, the comradarie makes it taste even better.

  13. G (China) January 7, 2009 4:51 am

Wow, great news with all the recruits and news of such a tall recruit. We just hosted a group of college students from Oklahoma checking out the possibility of studying Chinese here in our city. Hope HI feels like home for Destin. I’m sure if he can get into some line dancing and check out ranches where he can ride horses it would be cool for him. But then again why line dance and ride when you can learn to surf!

  14. G (China) January 7, 2009 4:56 am

The BCS title game will feature two great QB’s with great character. ESPN had two great stories of them. Seems like they are genuinely humble and hungry people of faith. It’s nice to hear about such people. I was especially impressed that Tebow does all sorts of outreach like many of our own men that suit up. I heard a friend told me that Tebow even took Urban Meyer to Philippines to share the good news.

  15. Pride. January 7, 2009 5:04 am

Bess, RGM, and Owens were plenty tall enough to get the job done.

  16. Pride. January 7, 2009 5:05 am

Seriously, welcome to the fold Mr. Stewart.

  17. Pride. January 7, 2009 5:07 am

How did we end up getting a guy from Oklahoma, if our focus was on recruiting California, Hawaii, Texas, and American Samoa.

  18. Pride. January 7, 2009 5:08 am

Maybe we’re bringing him in to be our punter.

  19. G (China) January 7, 2009 5:19 am

I don’t think the last two recruits that verbally committed was on anyone radar screen. It seems that HI has some major pull these days getting guys from Australia, Germany last year, and now the Okie state. Seriously, the folks visiting us from Oklahoma was a real class act and it seems that if the broader we reach the better for the state economically.

  20. bstunna2002 January 7, 2009 5:26 am

Man the good news just keeps rolling in. Only thing that worries me is that there might have been some decommits opening the way for other players to get the a scholarship any word on if that’s the case ST. Cause if we use our allotment of schollies this year then there would be no way to grey shirt unless there’s a way to count them towards next season?

  21. bighilofan2 January 7, 2009 5:35 am

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere!

    Destin Stewart,
    Welcome to Warrior Nation!

    Jason,

    Pride,

    howzit howzit!
looks like da coaches still fillin da pot wit all kinz ah talent.
    thats the good part. 😎

maybe coach can address the part about the talent being in the
right places at the right times, and adjusting to what the
other side is doing so that it’ll be more obvious that the Warriors are in the right places…. at the right times… 😀

and maybe da Useless groupee will get off dare high horses 😀
and join the rest of humaniteez, includin Kaimiloa in da horse town suburb. 😀

    …err… Al,

  25. Garret January 7, 2009 6:01 am

Welcome to the Warriors Destin Stewart!

Wow, he sounds perfect for the Warriors! Tall WR with speed will be great for the outside receiver role. The Warriors also desperately needed a punter without having to spend an extra scholarship, so I guess they have found their punter!

  26. Garret January 7, 2009 6:03 am

    Kekoa,

No problem about yesterday’s post. To be honest, I thought that your gut feeling was correct about how often the BCS teams played non-BCS conference teams. However, when I looked up the numbers I was surprised.

  27. Garret January 7, 2009 6:08 am

I’m glad that Daniel Libre’s paperwork is in, but I wish it could have been turned in earlier. Texas had a WR turn in his paperwork early to beat the rush of applications and his 6th year was granted a month or so ago.

  28. jm2375 January 7, 2009 6:11 am

    Good morning Tsai-kos!!

Welcome to the Warrior ohana Mr Stewart!

Jason, thanks for stats. Now, shall we do some more sophisticated analyses, like regression or survival analysis? I was also think of doing something using the high schools but I haven’t thought it all the way through and probably need some SME help. Something like looking at the characteristics of those who choose UH vs those who choose to go elsewhere. The denom would be the number who played D1-A football from that school. We could start with that school with the ugly colors (blue and puke yellow).

  29. bighilofan2 January 7, 2009 6:13 am

    G (China),

Destin Stewart was on da Big 12 radar. Plenny Okie accolades.
His mom and dad were athletes. He plays choke positions.
He’s a playah. Most of all, look about how his coach talked about him to da Okie Nation. See last post last nite.

You know how the top local talent like spread their wings, see the world?
same thing goes on all ova da world. the good alwayz like dig out. takes a great coach, a great recruit, and a great program, PLUS da intangibles, to keep da great at home.. 😀

Intangibles, das where we come into da pikcha. 😀

  30. bighilofan2 January 7, 2009 6:19 am

    hmmmm…..

  37. bighilofan2 January 7, 2009 6:52 am

You gotta be thinking that coaches know our immediate/prospective needs, how many bullets they have in the gun and in the ammo belts, and they are talking to each other so that they don’t overload one side of the ship so da bugga flips ova, or they overload da whole boat and da bugga capsizes.

  38. bighilofan2 January 7, 2009 6:57 am

Good morning Tsaikos and welcome Dustin Stewart to warrior land. not too many years ago, there was another okie who played for ok st and was a quarter rider. he later on went on to fame with the the dallas cowboys. name is wg.

  40. JC January 7, 2009 6:58 am

    Congratulations on getting Stewart!

  41. bstunna2002 January 7, 2009 7:01 am

Would be mean if we could land all three Poly Boys McKay is a bonafide safety he would play as a true freshman. I watched some of his games this past season he’s got great coverage ability and good tackling ability as well not to mention speed C’mon coaches Lock those Poly Kids up.

  42. whitey January 7, 2009 7:01 am

now that we moving into bigger time recruiting, some question how we have so many scholies. i don’t worry about it, i will let the coaches decide those kind of questions, but my main concern is getting quality players. the coaches are going in the right direction.

  43. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 7:02 am

    Grapes:
Indeed, Stutzmann will be at UH in the spring.
Noa had to take care of some stuff to be eligible. I believe he did, but because it wasn’t in a timely manner, he’ll be at UH in the fall, at the earliest.
I don’t think Powell has yet met the requirements. Then again, no h.s. recruit has met the requirements because graduation is one of them.

  44. RichfromtheOC January 7, 2009 7:05 am

I compare this to my gas tank…you only have limited space for fuel so you only gas up (scholarships available) what you expend (players leaving) and what your tank can hold (maximum allowed)…you cannot over fill your gas tank but maybe you can carry additional gas containers? Who is ensuring that we will be in compliance with this?

  45. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 7:08 am

    Letsgo:
I think UH will sign at least one more o-lineman.

  46. Stretch January 7, 2009 7:13 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Great news about a taller receiver coming in. Let’s hope that he has the hands to go along with his height and speed.

  47. letsgowarriors January 7, 2009 7:20 am

howzit Hawaiian! saw the pics of yesterdays CC. Looks like you guys had a good time. I’ll post it later.

  59. J-Dog January 7, 2009 8:29 am

I like the idea of Salas playing some slot. Might be the closest thing to a tightend that UH will have. Salas was so good at being the posession wr, getting the short passes and gaining the extra 5-10 yards while dragging defenders through sheer effort.

  60. J-Dog January 7, 2009 8:35 am

Any word on whether Solly and Adam get invited to the combine as well?

What’s the status on which of our players are playing in which post-season all-star games?

    Lots of questions this morning!

  61. RichfromtheOC January 7, 2009 8:36 am

as i once told the fabulous gigi several years ago….
    no worry, beef curry.

no worry the numbers. somehow it will sort itself out. regardless this may be our best recruiting year ever.

beef curry, anyone want to grab some at coco ichibanya?? you see there’s this monster bowl, that if you can consume it all, its free! sounds like a tsaiko place.

  66. BigWave96744 January 7, 2009 9:00 am

Tim Grasso was a star WR at Davis HS in Kaysville, Utah. Then went to Saddleback as their punter and the rest is history

  67. owen-16 January 7, 2009 9:07 am

any more scifers like punters out there, maybe we can find a diamond in da rough game changer like that kid…

  68. al™ January 7, 2009 9:10 am

so is symonds the answer at kicker???

besides that leilehua kid, i also thought that st. john lessary might have been a great duo pickup. i also thought that punahou kicker had some potential.

  69. owen-16 January 7, 2009 9:19 am

thought recruiting season was coming to an end, and then we get hit w/ a possible pass-catch combo and its from the high school ranks as a bonus. plus we got da 3 LBP boyz and Auloa Tonga coming in da next couple of weeks. very exciting times. don’t ever recall a story in da HA reconfirming a recruit’s commitment but i hope we have something like that coming out next week for IT and GDL. 2/4/09 can’t come soon enuf

  70. letsgowarriors January 7, 2009 9:19 am

kenny estes could end up being the backup kicker too right?

  71. madeinhawaii January 7, 2009 9:26 am

Hmm.. the way this is going, in a couple of seasons, our recievers will on average be taller than our QBs. Our QBs will all be throwing uphill.

  72. PONO January 7, 2009 9:27 am

Hard to imagine Grasso was a star receiver. Looks like he caught more hamburgers than passes.

  73. bstunna2002 January 7, 2009 9:36 am

I have a feelng that come Feb 4th we will have one of the best recruiting classes for a mid major school this year. I mean look at some of the schools we beat out for these recruits I also feel we will see GDL,IT and even SM in Warrior uniforms come Aug. There’s something about playing for not only a university but also a whole state that gives one a sense of pride just go’s to show you don’t need to be local to be proud of what or who you represent look at Colt still reppin 808 in DC.

  74. Committed Road Warrior January 7, 2009 9:46 am

    Welcome, Destin Stewart!!!!

    Transfer over from yesterday’s blog:

So the Utah Attorney General is the next official to try to look into investigating the BCS???

With Utah having completed another perfect season – its second in four years – that wasn’t good enough to even get the Utes into the BCS title game. Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff announced Tuesday he is investigating the BCS for a possible violation of federal antitrust laws.

He contends the agreement unfairly puts schools such as Utah, Boise State and others in conferences without an automatic bid to the more-lucrative bowl games at a competitive and financial disadvantage.

  75. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 9:59 am

Daily-Lyles is a lock. Don’t worry about him. Tepa is getting the full-court press from UCLA. That might be a bit of a problem. But the UH coaches, according to the word on the street, are doing home visits in SoCal this week.

  76. Jason January 7, 2009 10:01 am

I’m not too worried about the overrecruiting either. I’m sure the coaches have a good read on which players are solid commits and which players are wavering; which players are academically solid and which players might not qualify. Not to mention, there are always other options like grayshirting, walk-on, delayed scholarship (like with Colt).

jm2375: Hmm, when you talk like that, you almost sound like a real statistician … 😉

Honestly … I forget everything from my 300-level stats class. I do remember studying linear regressions, but we never covered survival analysis. Taking the 400-level stats class this semester, so we’ll see what I learn. 😛

  77. owen-16 January 7, 2009 10:12 am

has UCLA replaced dewayne walker yet? might have a bearing on if Tepa ends up there, i’m not sure. i was always under the assumption that norton jr might go back to UCLA to take over for walker or just to go back home but maybe he ends up staying at ‘sc whatwith holt jumping ship to be a huskie…

  78. labrat January 7, 2009 10:13 am

wow this one took my by surprise. Where did he come from? I guess he was Destin to be here. I was also thinking that moving Greg to slot would give him more touches. I like having tall receivers. Their long wingspan gives the qb a bigger target. Is Earvin Sione going to be a receiver also????

  79. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 10:18 am

    labrat:
I’m not sure about the status of Earvin Sione. He had to take care of some biz during the fall semester.

  80. Da Punchbowl Kid January 7, 2009 10:19 am

    labrat-

I was just going to mention the 6’5″ Sione. What’s his status Mr. Tsai? Is he going to be reciever, DB or QB?

  81. Da Punchbowl Kid January 7, 2009 10:20 am

Wow, the Tsaichic Tsai answers my question before it’s aked.

  82. labrat January 7, 2009 10:31 am

wow Tsai has a quick release today. Thanks

  83. labrat January 7, 2009 10:41 am

Welcome back Jovonte. You along with Chizzy are going to make those defenders dizzy.

  84. FloridaTed January 7, 2009 10:58 am

    Good morning/afternoon, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.

The good stuff just keeps on coming.

We have now a big basket full of gold nuggets. Let’s see how much actual gold weight will shake out on LOI.

Regardless of what we actually end up with, this shapes up to be the best overall recruiting class at UH ever. The hard work, off course, is ahead. How will our coaches turn all this gold into exquisite jewelry? Can they turn it into a steady, cohesive and passionate fighting machine? A unit that is one family again? Believing and fighting for each other?

If they can, look out !!

  85. big mac January 7, 2009 10:58 am

Can coach Mack clean house of all the players he dosen’t want? The scholarships are just year to year. Maybe the players with the bad attitudes, fat, weak, and out of shape will be cut.

  86. FloridaTed January 7, 2009 11:04 am

The biggest task asap will be to identify the top three QB’s and the top two after spring, as well as both lines and then paractice, practice, practice. Have Davone Bess teach out receivers on how to become great.

And last, but surely not least, have a gameplan in place from the start and keep executing it until everybody can run it in their sleep.

  87. FloridaTed January 7, 2009 11:06 am

Good for Ingram, he deserves it.

  88. homey ℞ January 7, 2009 11:23 am

In the week or so I was on ‘Oahu, I managed to gain 7 lbs. I guess it’s time go back on my regular diet…..I couldn’t resist the various local fuuds I never get to see out here…..

  98. Garret January 7, 2009 12:20 pm

    CRW,

In the *44 hours* I was in Vegas, I managed to gain 6.8 pounds! If you combine that with the 3 days before we went to Vegas (which included 2 buffets), I gained 8.5 pounds in 5 days. But working out every day since then has gotten rid of most of that…

I can never resist the local foods in Hawaii, plus the awesome food my Mom and my wife’s Mom cook. I used to average gaining a pound per day for each day in Hawaii so you were at the same pace.

  99. Garret January 7, 2009 12:21 pm

Congratulations to Jake Ingram! He is deserving and the NFL teams are already focused on him. Long snappers can have very, very long careers in the NFL, so I hope he gets with a team he likes and they take care of him.

  100. Garret January 7, 2009 12:24 pm

I read an article today about how the airline fare wars started again today, but this January the deals extend all the way to June–last January the flights only could be taken until April or so. So, Lori searched around and found our airfare for our trip to Hawaii this summer…$261 per person round-trip from LAX-HNL! After taxes/fees that is $306, which is just awesome.

If any of our SoCal Tsaikos want to plan a trip to Hawaii during the first half of this year, the sales are on now! We will be on Oahu from June 17 until July 1. Hope to make a Cattle Call sometime during our trip if there is one.

  101. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 12:27 pm

Ingram said he’s on a weight-gaining diet. He needs to add another 10 pounds.

  103. Committed Road Warrior January 7, 2009 12:33 pm

    Garret,

It’s great to know that I’m not alone in that regard (local food, weight gain). For me since I move/walk/run around a lot I typically get rid of most of that weight in due time. Before I flew out I went to go put on my long pants and could barely fit into them. That’s how I knew I put on more than just a couple pounds.

  104. Garret January 7, 2009 12:36 pm

    ST,

Jake should be able to gain that weight by UH’s Pro Day through weight training and the proper nutrition. Or, he could go on the “In-n-Out” diet, but the NFL would be less impressed with that. Now that he doesn’t have to worry about school and his monetary situation should be better (hopefully his agent is covering his expenses up to the draft), he can afford what he needs to gain the weight.

If that 10 pounds is supposed to be gained by the Senior Bowl, that is more problematic. I think that gaining some weight would show progress and there is more leeway for long snappers than the other OL positions…

  105. A-House January 7, 2009 12:36 pm

So, my good neighbor, your enticing post of a “middle” of the country WR has materialized in Dustin Stewart!

DUSTIN STEWART, WELCOME TO THE WARRIOR FAMILY AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FOOTBALL TEAM FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!!!

  106. J-Dog January 7, 2009 12:38 pm

How do coaches keep an early commit committed?

Also, do the coaches know when another school is trying to get one of their commits to de-commit?

  107. MeiLing January 7, 2009 12:39 pm

    Alohaz, all!

Wow! Great news in recruiting. Welcome, Destin! Do we have anyone replacing Ingram as Long Snapper? And is Symonds ready to replace Dan Kelly? Who do we have in the wings? or in the queue?

Good news re: Javonte. Hope Libre can get approval for another season. He’s done a great job moving the ball.

Esme & out… Have a great day everyone!

  112. Garret January 7, 2009 12:42 pm

    CRW,

I know the feeling! However, I’m lucky now that my wife makes sure we get lau lau, kalua pig, poke, sashimi, rice, spam musubi, and other local foods as part of our regular rotation of meals. She even makes her own lomi lomi salmon.

So, I still gain weight in Hawaii, but I mainly credit that to my Mom and my mother-in-law. They make some local foods that my wife cannot make yet, though she has been learning more and more stuff each year.

  113. BowsForever January 7, 2009 12:43 pm

Colt’s “Secret Life of Trainers” video is pretty amusing. But if he was trying to get footage without being noticed, he didn’t seem to be doing a great job of it. Especially when Yoder calls in. 😉

But then again, Pride. and A-Joe have some groovy moves too.

  130. protector January 7, 2009 1:24 pm

Note to BigWave96744: When you said (re: Grasso) “…and the rest is “history”, did you mean that that was why we had probably the crappiest, least versatile punters in UH history for probably the last 37 years I’ve been watching UH?? To me, Grasso was instrumental in helping UH lose some crucial games in that if we had even an average punter we would’ve won at least 2 to 3 more games this year, at minimum.
I hope Stewart is in competition for punter if someone else doesn’t step-up. What happened to Symonds(?); I thought he was the back-up punter this year in addition to being the back-up kicker as well?

  131. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 1:27 pm

The thing to remember is UH will honor those who have made verbal commitments, but it’s not always mutual.
A couple are on the academic bubble.
A couple might change their minds and go elsewhere.
You can grayshirt those who aren’t ready, like the Big Island offensive lineman.
The numbers will work out. UH has a big spread sheet with the rosters for the next five seasons.

  132. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 1:29 pm

    Protector:
    Symonds is not a punter.
Stewart isn’t being brought in as a punter.
But they have a couple of walk-on candidates for punter.
Luke Ingram should be the long snapper, if everything works out.

  133. LizKauai [Believer] January 7, 2009 1:29 pm

    m-homey – couldn’t type because fingers were full of kalbi…it was a Tsai-ko sized plate lunch for sure. I think I’m about 184 too…

    Homey:
For the all-star listing, he is listed as being 6-3.
I asked him, and he said, 6-4.
That’s basically what I do. I just ask each recruit to give me his height and weight.
I also ask players for 40 times, although I found this site that has the 40 times for every college player in America.
But 40 time vary, depending on the surface, wind, timer, etc.
I’ve been to three Pro Days and the NFL combine, and I’ve stood next to scouts. Few record the same times.

  136. FloridaTed January 7, 2009 1:33 pm

I’ll make a prediction right now, we will make two BCS games over the next five years, at minimum one and come very close to the second.

Am I nuts or does anyone else believe that?

It looks stupid, looking at 08, but I’m looking ahead. This year Coach Mack will have his ducks lining up a lot better. This is actually HIS real first year.

  147. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 1:43 pm

But Gerke, like some other coaches who have left UH in the past, won’t have his new school recruit a player who verbals to UH. Gerke is a man of honor.

  150. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 1:45 pm

That certainly wasn’t the case with Bo Levi Mitchell, who verbaled to UH last year because of his family’s friendship with Mouton’s family. He had no other previous ties to SMU.

  167. G (China) January 7, 2009 1:59 pm

It is so nice getting to read about all these recruits and new talent coming in but one thing that Solly and those of the recent past that I can think of is that they brought an attitude of great unity and team play. On paper, Hawaii, is becoming more of an elite school then anytime with great individuals, but it needs to be a team. I think that’s what Bess brought to the table for Miami in their amazing turn around season, why NY can’t win a world series, and why HI went to the Sugar Bowl. With bettter recruits and commitment to team first mentality…Florida Ted’s prediction sounds good to me.

    homey, good to know, lol.

  169. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 2:02 pm

    Graves:
The word on the street is UH was impressed with Graves’ attentiveness in team meetings during the recruiting trip. Instead of going out, he took notes, asked questions. It was more of a working seminar than a recruiting trip.

    owen-16,

010 we may shock the mighty USC, they will have a lot of new players that year and we may be their one annual loss and head scratcher, lol.

The key in 010 will be if we have a QB that will start at least his second year. With a new QB it could be 011.

  179. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 2:18 pm

When they show the graphics for tomorrow’s game, it always helps to have that Georgia blowout loss listed.

  180. G (China) January 7, 2009 2:19 pm

thanks to Garret’s reporting it seems that USC has to deal with three coordinators jumping ship in recent years…USC may have lost some of its appeal…for the short term possibly. 010 may be a good time to play them. I’m really hoping for 010 myself. Confirmed to be in HI for the season then.

  181. FloridaTed January 7, 2009 2:20 pm

I feel a little selfish, but I’m almost hoping it will be Graves that becomes the starter. First of all, having a four starting QB would be maaaarvelous, second it would mean he is outstanding to beat out all the other quality guys in camp.

But for sure I want a REAL competition at the QB spot, not just a token one, where the Coaches secretly made up their minds already. I want the best one starting, period.

Besides, this Graves kid sounds very mature and focused, that’s a big bonus.

  182. RichfromtheOC January 7, 2009 2:22 pm

Let us all send out positive vibes so that Esme can secure keiki care on Feb. 7th. For those wanting to get her autograph, I think she will be selling 8 x 10 photos of her.

Plus her “Love and Honesty” duet partner will be there!

  192. bstunna2002 January 7, 2009 2:58 pm

well what’s funny is the coaches who spoke up unforunately normally wouldn’t if their team was in Oklahoma or Florida’s postion to have losses but still play for a national championship the only team that should have a gripe is Utah they went undefeated but when you get into strength of schedule the PAC 10 or MWC doesn’t compare to the SEC or the BIG 12 the BCS is about making money so if they have unattractive teams matched up they stand to lose $. I mean who would’ve really made the trip had Ball St made it to a BCS game I think to date Hawaii has had the best showing in fan support for a non bcs school.jmho

  196. homey ℞ January 7, 2009 3:09 pm

bstunna2002 – The BCS makes tons of money just from the networks and the advertisements. The Utah/Alabama game drew over 71,000. I don’t think even with an unattractive undefeated non-BCS team would there be much money lost.
    IMHO.

My “date” was having to catch TheBus to King/Dillingham, then catch TheCab to where my Mom locked the keys in her car. That’s one hour I’m not getting back. 🙁

I watched some of Graves’ film. Good footwork for such a young QB, good mechanics. I don’t see any physical reason why he can’t be a good one for us. Same with Shutter, same with Nielsen (outside of his height). It all comes down to the mental side.

  206. bstunna2002 January 7, 2009 3:23 pm

Man I just watched the clips of Graves he definetly looks to be alot faster than that. I hope LWJ gets his chance next year I know he has it in him just too bad with the injuries and all but I also can’t wait to see Chizzy and Sula in the back field. I wonder if Sula is similar in running style to Nasti Nate where he’ll lower the pads on defenders it’d be great to have another Ilaoa or Keliikipi type bruiser in the back field the defense will have to respect the run then. I still remeber the stiff arm that Keliikipi made that USC guy eat someone should post it up here if the can find it.

  210. Willie January 7, 2009 3:30 pm

Jason & bstunna mentioned speed & great footwork. I also see a quick release.

Greg Alexander needs to work on his footwork both in speed & quickness; then there is the problem of his slow & long release. He got his work cut out for him this off season. Perhaps the Miano & Delaura speed & quickness camp can help.

Remember, this year’s QB class was carefully chosen over time. Last year due to the late hiring of Mac the QB’s were like a “fire sale” purchase.

oh bruddah attrice, all dat talent wasted, cuz of beinga headcase. he’ll always have a place in my heart though, showed how explosive the R&S could really be when he scored da first Offensive TD in da JJ era IIRC, that bomb from Dr. Dan, thing of beauty

  228. lava January 7, 2009 4:05 pm

Hey ST, you sounded good on Portnoy’s show this a.m. He couldn’t get over the offer to the Koelher boy, fearing a verbal contract argument like Ms. Smith is making. He doesn’t seem to be much of a UH fan to give that argument merit. How can anyone accept an offer to make a binding contract when the NCAA prohibits such an offer from being accepted? It can’t be done.

I think a lot of young basketball players may get earlier offers, since a lot of them already have the size and athleticism and proven ability by the 8th grade. I remember basketball star Jim Jackson. His build is much like that of Lebron James. In the 8th grade he was 6’6″, over 200 pounds, broad shoulders, and clearly a future star. (He later starred at Ohio State and bounced around the pros for years.) If JJ were a kid again, he would be offered.

  229. myki January 7, 2009 4:07 pm

Stop picking on senior citizens. I was the eldest at the last KK and I didn’t want to be a bad influence on the younguns. Actually I was afraid I had had enough for the night and would have been tempted to pick up the microphone and torture you all.

  236. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 5:26 pm

    Re: Attrice Brooks.
Before the O‘ahu Bowl, JJ said he was going to make Brooks a star. He was going to put Brooks in the game in the second and fourth quarters, when Brooks was aligned near the UH sideline .JJ was going to personally coach him during the game. Then Brooks kicks an Oregon State guy. As JJ said: “And that was the end of that.”

    Okay. Done for the night.

  243. wafan January 7, 2009 5:42 pm

    I lied.

    702 . . .

We(s)t side of state is pretty much snowfree. Now it is the 20″+ of rain some places got today (in 24 hours) and flooding in 20 of the western rivers.

Chehalis is expecting a flood stage 70″+ today or tomorrow. And, a good portion of Fife, just north of Tacoma, and the entire town of Orting (20,000+ citizens) were ordered evacuated earlier today. This is going to be bad.

So, the state is now separated east from west because of the snow in the hills; and north from south with I-5 soon to be closed in Chehalis and maybe Puyallup.

Please stop sending the rain from Hawai’i.

    Garret,

Thanx for the heads up on the new HD stations. I updated my favorites list. Of course, right now it doesn’t make much of a difference, since hubby decided to return the HD tv because the price had dropped in the 3 mos we owned it and now he’s still looking for a new one. So, I’m stuck with the 20-yr old crappy 27″ tube tv. *tsigh*

Uhhh, wafan, they’re predicting more heavy rain this weekend…

  248. LizKauai (iPhone) January 7, 2009 6:10 pm

702- yup. And most of the speculation is floating way over my head.
I don’t want to second guess our coaches and our players and am just concentrating on encouraging everyone to be as one. An unbroken line, an undivided team with a common goal of excellence in and off the field. Egos channeled and minds and bodies focused on a season of victory – over weakness, over fears, over distractions, over excuses.
Let the celebration come at the end and let it be a team celebration.

  252. Garret January 7, 2009 7:05 pm

    702WarriorNation,

I’m sorry that I didn’t get to meet with you and las vegas when I was in Vegas for a couple of days before the New Year. I guess the timing didn’t work out for a Cattle Call. I’ll be in Vegas again on Feb. 28 and March 1 (Sat/Sun) and hopefully we can catch up then. My family is going for the weekend because my parents will be there from Feb. 28 until March 3 or 4.

  253. Garret January 7, 2009 7:06 pm

    ST,

For me, nothing beats watching Warrior wins…except for actually being at the game when they win. After that, I agree that the offseason is fun because of recruiting, NFL draft, Spring Practice, and the anticipation of the season.

  254. Garret January 7, 2009 7:07 pm

    jm2375,

Wow, to go from a HD TV back to an old TV must be hard! Hopefully you get a good one soon–the prices are great and will only get better, but you have to get one someday.

  255. Garret January 7, 2009 7:08 pm

Congratulations on Mel Purcell for signing with the Browns. If I remember correctly, players can only spend 2 years on the practice squad, so he’s got to make the active roster or they will have to cut him and he can try to make another team.

  256. Garret January 7, 2009 7:23 pm

The coach of ST’s favorite NFL team will now be Mel’s coach.

Eric Mangini is the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns, a week after being fired by the New York Jets. A person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press that Mangini will be introduced Thursday at a news conference at the team’s headquarters in Berea.

Mangini began his NFL career as a ballboy with the Browns in 1994 under then-coach Bill Belichick. Now he’s taking over the job of one of his best friends in football, fired Browns coach Romeo Crennel.

  257. 702WarriorNation January 7, 2009 7:43 pm

    Garret,
No problem- holiday season normally hectic with family.
Let us know your travel plans for Feb. when closer and lets see if we can get together for minikk. Believe LV will be back home from HNL by then.
If anyone else in town, welcome to join in.

  258. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 8:01 pm

Did the Browns run a 3-4?
    Because that’s Mangini’s defense.
Of course, Mangini is so smart to force his 3-4, he traded away John Abraham and Jonathan Vilma.

  259. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 8:03 pm

Vilma led the Saints with 132 tackles, including 98 solos.
    Mangini is an idiot.

  260. Stephen Tsai January 7, 2009 8:05 pm

Abraham was third in the NFL in sacks; Vilma was eighth in tackles.

  267. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 7, 2009 9:00 pm

jm2375- I always thought Sonys were overpriced but I have to say that they are a good tv if you can afford them. I got a Toshiba from Sears a few months ago- $600 was in my budget and I am happy with it for the price I paid.

  268. jm2375 January 7, 2009 9:05 pm

Liz – hubby wants almost top of line stuff. We are definitely not first adopters, but we wait till the tech gets relatively affordable. He was telling me today about the 240 Hz TVs that are out now. Of course, those are around $4K, so we’re looking for a 120Hz TV (almost no pixelation with fast motion like sports) in a 46-52″. BTW, our 20yr old TV is a Sony.

  269. SteveM January 7, 2009 9:11 pm

    jm2375 — have you considered a 52″ Bravia? 🙄

  270. Garret January 7, 2009 9:11 pm

    jm2375,

I’ve been there with those old TVs! I was so happy when the movers dropped my really old TV when I moved from the Bay Area to LA…they paid me off for the TV even though it worked okay (except for the photo in one corner) because it was dented so badly. I saved the money they gave me until the TV completely died and bought the one I have now–6 years ago.

  271. Garret January 7, 2009 9:12 pm

My current TV is a rear-projection Sony. It doesn’t do HDMI and doesn’t have the resolution that TVs now have, but it is good enough for me until my kids are older and we can re-arrange things.

  272. jm2375 January 7, 2009 9:15 pm

    SteveM – yeah, but it’s not 120Hz and they’re a little overpriced. 🙄

  273. Garret January 7, 2009 9:15 pm

    ST,

I think that Mel could fit as a DE in a 3-4, he did a good job in Glanville’s 3-4. I hope that Mangini likes Mel, as his NFL career will probably either blossom or end this year since he can’t be left on the practice squad anymore.

  274. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 7, 2009 9:17 pm

Our TV before the present 720 was a 27″ Apex from WalMart. It cost about $200 and lasted 6-7 years. Before that we had 19″ Hitachis that were at least 12 years old.

  275. Garret January 7, 2009 9:19 pm

My friend Eric sent me this link–pretty amazing that if you go by the BCS computers to predict the bowl game winners, every one of them would have had a losing record!

Instead of using nuclear or chemical weapons, terrorists could spend a few hundred dollars on a bio-attack using insects that could be a lot more devastating to the US.

  288. Garret January 7, 2009 9:35 pm

    jm2375,

There is a whole book out right now that tells how terrorists could spend a few hundred dollars, buy a plane ticket to the US, and devastate our economy and population with an insect-spread disease. US citizens aren’t immunized for some nasty illnesses anymore since they have been wiped out…and those things could be spread by insects!

  289. jm2375 January 7, 2009 9:41 pm

jm2375, no worry cause airlines shot themselves in the foot and now the backlash has caught up with them and they have to revert back to fare wars. they get plenty stupid jackarses in the airline marketing office.

  305. Garret January 7, 2009 10:18 pm

This reporter has apparently gone over and over the game tape for Miami vs. Baltimore and he’s very critical of Samson and Miami’s 2 guards. The full article is really brutal, but here is a representative portion.

But this game was really, truly decided at the line of scrimmage where the interior of the Ravens defensive line and blitzing linebackers dominated Dolphins center Samson Satele, left guard Andy Alleman, and right guard Ikechuku Ndukwe. The score Sunday was 27-9. It was much, much, much worse than that if one judges the play of Miami’s interior line.

So here is the deal: The Dolphins should, must address the interior of their offensive line this offseason. They cannot compete with elite defenses with this starting group. I realize neither Alleman nor Ndukwe were slated to be starters in 2008 but that doesn’t change the need to upgrade there in 2009.

The Dolphins also need a starting center. There. I said it. Satele is not a starting center, in my opinion. He isn’t very physical, he doesn’t really move anyone in the running game, and on pass plays, I often see him with his back to the defense, chasing the on-rushing defender that just whipped him as the defender makes a target out of Miami’s QB.

I am officially debunking the myth that Satele is a good player. He wasn’t that against Baltimore, and I’ve seen him struggle too often during the regular season to believe he’s any better than average — maybe not even that. Satele is a guy you want as a backup center-guard, a swing guy. When he assumes that role, you’ll know the Miami offensive line has upgraded.

  306. whitey January 7, 2009 10:20 pm

d1, sounds excellent, but unfortunately won’t be able to make it. i don’t know about duffer, but i think he is more concerned about his golf game since the 15 yr girl beat him the last 2 times (and she played from the same tee as him).

  307. Kekoa January 7, 2009 10:20 pm

Tanks Whitey ~ Diana needs to go check on our other house, and also clear some things out of storage to ship back here. She’ll be thrilled!

  308. Garret January 7, 2009 10:20 pm

USC picked their defensive coordinator…as expected, it is the coach that Sarkisian offered the U-Dub DC job to.

With the national signing date for high school recruits less than a month away, USC Coach Pete Carroll moved quickly to reconfigure his defensive staff, promoting Rocky Seto to defensive coordinator on Wednesday night.

Carroll also promoted linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. to assistant head coach for defense and hired Jethro Franklin for a second stint as defensive line coach.

Carroll’s announcement came the day after former defensive coordinator Nick Holt was introduced at Washington, where former Trojans offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is the new head coach.

Seto, 32, was regarded as the front-runner to succeed Holt because of the continuity he provides. Seto has been on USC’s staff since 1999 and has coached linebackers and the secondary under Carroll, who will still call the defensive plays.

  309. Garret January 7, 2009 10:22 pm

    whitey,

I read the notice of the fare war today and Lori found a ticket on Delta (via priceline) that was for a roundtrip between LAX-HNL from June 17 to July 1 for $261 per ticket!

  310. Garret January 7, 2009 10:24 pm

So, USC’s head coach will call their defensive plays and their QB coach will call their offensive plays. I don’t think I’ve *ever* heard of a college or pro football team where neither coordinator called the plays!

  311. whitey January 7, 2009 10:26 pm

garret, i love it when a reporter thinks he/she is a coach because it just shows how stupid they are. i think most sports reporters do a good job of reporting what transpire and let things fall where they may, but they don’t tell a team how to be coached. i have a funny feeling about this reporter because he might have been banned from the dolphins training and locker room.

  312. d1島 January 7, 2009 10:28 pm

  314. whitey January 7, 2009 10:31 pm

garret, you right about delta cause my friend who is going to vegas said that delta and us air had the cheapest fare. the saddest thing about delta is that they were considered as the best domestic carrier a few years back, then fell out with change of management. basically, delta told their best customers they were going to take away some of the privileges (aloha did the same and you know what happened to them).

  315. whitey January 7, 2009 10:35 pm

i wuz re-reading some of last August’s commentary from ST about the upcoming season, 08. Looking back, so I can feel better about looking foward.

imo, De Laura and his gang can make a big impact on next year’s team, help Warriors plan their schedule and regimens.

AND, receivers, make use of the JUGS. team up. make a schedule, in the weightroom and with the JUGS.

  406. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 4:29 am

I hope the 3 Long Beach guyz have a fun recruit trip here this weekend, both in and out of the football world. get canoe races this weekend,
church. PCC… bulla… all kinds of fun stuff. 😀

  407. wafan January 8, 2009 5:22 am

A very wet morning to all!

Okay, not as wet as that girl got after being drenched with the guys pee.

And, why pee into a plastic bag? Kind of weird — to look at it? Would a rigid type container (i.e., #10 coffee can) work better in terms of stability?

  408. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:24 am

    eeeeeeewwwwww!

dat is sick sick sick. sumbuddy chrow one bowl pee on me, i hirin dat 4 year old wit da shotgun fo solve dat prolem! 😀

  409. wafan January 8, 2009 5:26 am

2 hour school delay because of the weather. Flooding is really bad for a lot of people — losing their homes, cars and possessions. Some of them just got their lives back together after the flooding last year. Sad.

Hopefully, there will be no loss of life this year.

  410. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:27 am

    wafan, howzit.

hows da I-5 in your area? my friend says you guyz getting it bad.

  411. wafan January 8, 2009 5:28 am

    bhf2 . . .

HA! Never thought of that combination.

  412. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:28 am

i guess he was right. Sad.

  413. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:31 am

howzit. hope you recovering well. 1

  415. wafan January 8, 2009 5:34 am

    bhf2 . . .

I-5 is closed down south in the Centralia-Chehalis area, probably through tonight and maybe tomorrow. I do not think they had tdo close I-5 near Puyallup last night. Mountain passes are still closed, so east-west traffic is at a complete stop.

First the snow, then ice, and now the rain. Sheesh.

    When does summer arrive?

  416. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:43 am

thanks for the update Wafan. my friend almost drove off the 5 due to black ice right before XMas. first timer! and now the mushh.

  417. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:45 am

you think we’ll get news on Williams’ paperwork go/no go today?

  418. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:53 am

    ST

is Kainoa LaCount already here? wuz rereading last year’s Feb blog about him committing, then this past summer he had one more class to complete to get his AA at College of the Canyons. I’m guessing he’s good to go, but just wondering about his status with school starting next week and all.

  419. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:54 am

    ST

mind doing a story on the big guyz in next week’s blogs? thanks.

  420. bighilofan2 January 8, 2009 5:56 am

is Keala getting invited to da combine? always thought he had the intellect, speed and size.

  421. d1島 January 8, 2009 6:10 am

    Great Morning All!

    ….less than 80 to go!

  422. d1島 January 8, 2009 6:11 am

    wafan,

Sorry to hear about the weather woes. Take care.

  423. wafan January 8, 2009 6:20 am

Well, if the goal is 500 then I will do my share.

  424. wafan January 8, 2009 6:21 am

    Hi d1!

Is son back at school? The trip back will be wet and cool rather than icy and cold.

  425. d1島 January 8, 2009 6:22 am

…another day, more Continental Sports Channel. 😉

  426. d1島 January 8, 2009 6:24 am

    wafan,

The school has a Jan term that he is not participating in this year so he is home for another month. 🙂

  427. wafan January 8, 2009 6:28 am

Good for him! A month of mom’s home cooking. Yum.

Might make it more difficult to leave when it is time, though.

  428. wafan January 8, 2009 6:29 am

Looks like the water hose from Hawai’i is moving northward!!!

  429. wafan January 8, 2009 6:30 am

TIme to head out for school.

2 hours late much better than a cancellation — no need to make it up at the end of the year!!!

  430. wafan January 8, 2009 6:33 am

    Good for Horizon Air!

o/w walkup prices from PDX to SEA were lowered to around $120. They are stepping up to help people stuck by the flooding and closure of I-5.

    Apparently they are very busy!

  431. Stretch January 8, 2009 6:48 am

University of Hawaii football, volleyball revenue down $1.25M
Football, women’s volleyball see drop in game attendance

  453. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:19 am

    By Ferd Lewis
    Advertiser Staff Writer

The University of Hawai’i’s two major fall sports — football and women’s volleyball — took a combined $1.25 million hit at the box office in 2008 compared with 2007, early reflections of how the economic downturn is affecting the athletic program.

  454. whitey January 8, 2009 7:19 am

good morning tsaikos. feeling a little better, but still groggy.

  455. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:20 am

The combination of a struggling football team that went 7-7 on the heels of a 12-1 championship season the year before, and the tightening economy produced a $1.2 million drop in football ticket revenue, according to unaudited figures from UH.

  456. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:20 am

Meanwhile, the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team came in $55,000 below 2007, UH said.

“The numbers aren’t a surprise to me, but they are a little disappointing,” said Jim Donovan, UH athletic director. “We’re seeing it in every sector (of business) and we, especially, started to feel it from early November on.”

  457. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:21 am

    Hi whitey!!!

  458. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:21 am

Football and women’s volleyball are two of the three biggest revenue-producing sports in the 19-team lineup at UH. Men’s basketball, whose season is currently under way, is the other.

As a result, UH officials said they are projecting as much as a $3 million shortfall of the $29.5 million budget for the current fiscal year.

  459. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:21 am

Donovan said a hiring freeze and containment measures have been undertaken in an attempt to reduce the deficit.

“We have asked our people to cut back and be prudent in their spending,” he said.

Donovan said he has not ruled out job cuts but said those, if they come, would be decided on in the spring.

  460. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:22 am

The athletic department has run at a deficit since 2002. When Donovan replaced Herman Frazier 10 months ago, UH had accumulated a net deficit of $4.4 million to $6 million, according to insider estimates. The annual independent audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, which must be approved by the Board of Regents, is scheduled to be released next month.

  461. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:22 am

Football season ticket renewals, which are due to go out shortly, will remain at last season’s prices, Donovan said.

“Obviously, the public is hurting right now and we’re not about to raise prices,” he said.

  462. whitey January 8, 2009 7:23 am

didn’t realize that they lost that much, but i think it will get better this year with both sports.

  463. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:23 am

    earnings hit low point

Football ticket revenue for 2008 was the lowest since 2005, when UH earned $4.12 million. Last year, in the march to the Sugar Bowl, UH took in $5.85 million. UH had seven home games for all but the 2006 season, when it had eight.

Despite an increase of nearly 5,000 season tickets over 2007 to 27,585, average per-game attendance dropped from 41,325 to 33,691 in 2008, according to unaudited figures.

  464. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:23 am

Average Rainbow Wahine volleyball attendance dropped from 6,452 in 2007 to 5,944 in 2008.

The athletic department generates about 83 percent of its $29.5 million operating budget. The remainder, about $4.6 million, comes from university general funds and goes for the operation of lower campus facilities ($1.4 million) and scholarship support ($3.2 million), according to UH.

One bright note for UH is expected to be a rise in its television/pay-per-view rights fees. For the 2007 season, UH received $2.54 million and is expected to receive approximately $2.61 million for 2008.

  465. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:23 am

The difference, officials at UH and its partners, KFVE and Oceanic Time Warner Cable, said, came through a renegotiated contract and the debut of a special road games package for season ticket holders that brought in $320,958 to total sales of $4.1 million.

To entice season ticket renewals and new sales, UH and its partners made available a pay-per-view package of five of the six UH away games for $99 to season ticket holders, a 65 percent discount off the price to non-season ticket holders. Otherwise, Donovan said, “the pay-per-view sales mirrored our slump (at the box office).”

  466. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER January 8, 2009 7:24 am

Donovan said the road game special for season ticket holders will be retained in 2009, though prices have yet to be set.

Oceanic is refunding approximately $115,000 to subscribers who were affected by satellite transmission problems early in the Fresno State and New Mexico State football games.

In addition, UH dropped some prices for family seating sections in selected end zone areas at Aloha Stadium and in the upper level for arena sports.

  467. whitey January 8, 2009 7:26 am

g morning liz. looks like that is why the major fundraiser is needed to offset the loss. uh needs help and i am sure that all of us will do our part in helping the program. go tsaikos!!!!!

  468. bstunna2002 January 8, 2009 7:29 am

I think some players who normally help out Miano in his speed and quickness camps should be on campus helping our “09 warriors get ready being that it’s against NCAA rules for coaches to be at workouts in the off season until spring ball. I’m hoping John Estes steps up to be a leader this year along with Rocky. Hopefully everyone can make a commitment to train hard this off season and hopefully most can stay the summer so we can build that team comraderie and cohesiveness this will be key next season for a team that lost 35 seniors some one set up some unofficial workouts.

if the defense can play within the gameplan and keep the level of intensity high and mistakes to a minimum, If the offense can have fun on the field and the oline can play with some swag and attitude then The Warriors will have a succesful “09 and win at least 10 games these are the thngs we lacked this season for example against Cincy the D didn’t play with the same intensity they started out the game with same with the O they stopped having fun after the first turnover.

  484. myki January 8, 2009 8:15 am

    Good morning to all!!

Looks like everyone has been working hard to reach another Tsai-ko set goal.

Hope JD is doing well and will be back good as new. Looking forward to MVB tonight. We’re giving up our seats in the lower bowl and moving to the upper section to save on the premium charges. We actually get a better view of the court from the new location. Hope to see some of you tonight.

  485. Pride. January 8, 2009 8:15 am

Just gotta do it RIGHT, and do it 100%.

  486. jm2375 January 8, 2009 8:20 am

OK, question for da gurus. We’ve all been harping on da Bull Crap System for a long time – da rich get richer and da poor stay begging for scraps. But, is it just my imagination or is there more parity between the BC$ and us guys (“mid-majors”) these days? Is this mainly due to the scholarship limits? Da big teams no can sign 60 recruits anymore just to keep them away from other teams.

  487. Da Punchbowl Kid January 8, 2009 8:21 am

    100% of the time!

No act, you guys got smart. No sense pay the premium fees when you can buy the cheaper seats in the upper sections then move down since nobody goes to the MVB games. I going tell JD to keep an eye on you two!!

I’m missing the game tonight, because I have to go to a wedding. Argh!

  492. duffer January 8, 2009 8:42 am

    Good Morning Tsai-kos!

    Closing in on 500!

  493. TOM January 8, 2009 8:42 am

    500 is close at hand!

Hope that the sportswriters get the message to vote Utah as #1. Hopefully it will send a message to those BCS guys that there are other teams worthy of consideration and not just a crumb from their table. Florida and Oklahoma – one of them will have two losses and the winner one – but Utah is unbeaten. (Not a Utah fan but want recognition for us mid-majors!)

  494. bstunna2002 January 8, 2009 8:44 am

I think recruits are weighing other factors like playing time. Think about being a tailback at USC they get the cream of the crop rb’s year in year out but what if they recruit six that year and one turns out to be a Reggie Bush type of back others lower on the list won’t smell the field or you can go to a mid major and be maybe a 3 yr starter. The scholarship amount also plays a big part because wealthier schools could afford the limit but smaller schools might have ben able to only afford 2/3 of the limit in scholarships it also forces schools to look alot harder at who they’re recruitng.

  495. koakane™ January 8, 2009 8:55 am

much being said about the recruits, their size, times, ethic background etc… nuff already the proof of what they are made of will come on the first day of practice when they strap it up to earn their positions. many questions will be answered by den. be positive, be supportive, give time and believe.

09 oline goning be fine 😈

  496. sjmacro January 8, 2009 9:00 am

Stretch: Actually our good lower bowl seats were so good we couldn’t see the near sidelines. Had a hard time helping out the blind 😯 linesman. Also maybe I can buy you a beer when you come. Too bad no $1 Heines. 😀
