Wes’side and SteveM, I too am in Lawrenceville, cool to know some Warrior fans are in the same area, sorry got plans with the kids this weekend, but please keep me up to date on future get togethers, game watching parties, would love to come and to be a part of it. Like you, I thought from Jump Street, Virginia was a true supporter of UH athletics. I’ve never had reason to change my mind about her loyalty to the students. It was always uplifting to see her get so close to the sporting events and the players. Sadly, I think she ended up being small kine collateral damage in all this drama.

Your judgeship. How can we move towards getting MRC on the next slow leaking air mattress off this island?

I realize we don’t have enuff on her to oust her right this minute, but whenever her term nears expiration…Slam, Bam, out she goes!

Basketball players seem to have a bias in their favor for having good feet, which is something that coaches appear to look for in offensive linemen (especially at OT). Examples include Dane Uperesa, Sean Shigematsu. I thought Kainoa LaCount fit into this mold, but circumstances did not work out in his favor.

#32 Kekoa. I’m with you. Time to be focusing our good energy on our student athletes. As far as I’m concerned, the season (FB & VB) can’t start any sooner.

Last season, Coach Chow’s Utah team lost to USC 17-14. USC blocked Utah’s FG attempt to send the game into overtime in the last 10 seconds. Let’s hope our boys are as good or better than Utah’s team was last season.

The main reason JD got his new gig is he had an air tight case of defamation of character which would have cost UH millions in the end.

I got my season tickets in the mail today, all is right in the world!!!!

There are two legal, realistic processes to bring a new UH System President on board. The first is to wait until her contract expires in 2014 or she can be paid off if she resigns under pressure before that.

Remember, Mary Rita Cooke Greenwood turns 70 on her next birthday which makes it more difficult for her to find another administrative position at another university. However, as she is a Distinguished Professor Emerita of Nutrition and Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, she can still continue her academic research there or perhaps at one of the other UC campuses.

I am going to talk to some of the Political Big Cheeses as well as the downtown business people to see if there is any interest from The Powers That Be to remove the UH System President prior to her contract’s end.

If things were done right, all Driftwood and Sour Apple needed to do was keep JD as AD and let his contract expire. So simple. But no, the wood and the core saw this as an opportunity to get rid of him but it backfired, no wrongdoing and they could have been sued. In return they make JD an offer he and his lawyer did not refuse. lolos for Admin.

Spoke with head coach Bob Coolen today and after years of concern, happy to report to those concerned on this blog and those reading this that the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium’s lighting issue is one small step closer to being where it should be.

This week, five burned out lamps were replaced and the labor apparently took less than an hour to complete.

The next step is the biggest one involving the actual replacement of the five light poles with new lighting is supposedly targeted for May 2013 as opposed to what was supposed to be in 2015.

This could not have been done without the support of a well-known “legal beagle” on this blog (you know who you are) and the further assistance from key legislators over the past few weeks.

The winners are the student-athletes of the softball program and those dedicated to ensuring the best collegiate athletic experience that is possible with our resources for these hard-working student-athletes and their coaching staff.

I’m amazed it took less than an hour to replace 5 lamps. There’s a joke in there somewhere.

According to Mark Takai on 1420 it seems that the state legislature and gov can’t do anything about changing the UH admin cuz of a constitution agreement of autonomy. He said it has to be looked at again. This fiasco according to him could cost UH over a million dollars.

Not to mention all the additional costs trying to find out what happened and then sweep it under the rug?

This might be the first season that the UH President and current Chancellor can’t wait to see get started. Something to turn the attention away from them.

What is interesting in the interviews of the witnesses, per the Cades Schutte report is that while Virginia Hinsaw was interviewed, neither Chancellor Apple nor President Greenwood were interviewed.

In the documents so far, another area of redaction that is of concern is the section about insurance. Apparently some steps were taken and at least one person said not to send off the money until a policy was bought … But that didn’t happen. I hope the appendices address the inaction about insurance and vetting the handling of the escrow account

and none of this extras is gonna get our money back. like MRC Greenwood said, over a 7 1/2 hour period, she thought about all this. and she chose to shut down JD’s tenure. probably not for the Wondergate, but for the overall control of UHAD. and the BOR thought about all this too. cannot honestly say they was sitting on their thumbs for 7 1/2 hours.

Interesting that the article about Royce Pollard making the play of the day at Jets practice mentioned it was one of the few times the 1st team O went against 1st team D. Does that mean Pollard is on the 1st team?

Can we please just hire local and avoid all the mainland bs that accompanies these people. If they came over and became localized, free pass, but Greenwood and Apple have got to go. read the 57 page report by the attorneys – it appears that sheriff should have been fired, he failed to do many things right. also, there was sufficient reason for suspending donovan as he was the AD and he cannot claim that he did not know or do things. he is the boss, he should be responsible for the actions of his subordinates. if he did not properly supervise them, then it is his fault too. hence, cannot see why the chancellor gave in to donovan’s attorney threat; uh has sufficient and reasonable cause for the suspension. also, the attorney, akamine is culpable too; he appeared to be irresponsible and did not grasp the full legal aspects of the contract, etc. appears that apple acted too quickly without getting proper legal advice from counsel. and his public meeting was a travesty. this whole saga should be investigate further and responsible people be held accoutable, it is too easy to say, there was no intent to defraud, that is not the point – the issue is doing things right by following procedures, etc. and not make the rules up as you go along.

With the newly implemented athletics fee that all students have to pay for, I would suggest they put in a representative from either ASUH or GSO on the search committee. Non-voting ex-officio if they must. It wouldn’t hurt to at least include them to give the appearance of being more inclusive.

I really hope this negative press doesn’t affect Clapp’s chances at the Montana AD job.

How has Greenwood done in terms of the rest of the system? Athletics is important, but it is tiny in comparison to the mission and overall reason for having a university.

I’m not sure what the exact measurables are for an effective president aside from things like increased endowment, higher rankings, research dollars, etc.

If she has done well with the academic side of things but screwed up with the athletics does she still deserve to be dismissed/asked to resign?

Again, I don’t know of the particulars or her overall performance but its something decision makers will have to evaluation and think about.

In a way, I feel for Apple. He just got on the job and of course he had to go with the flow. Nonetheless, he has already showed he may not be a man of integrity.

And the other big question is you have to believe the president will talk to the vice president in a situation like this. therefore, rockne surely knew something if not everything. i think we might find rockne played a role in this. there’s no way it can only be apple and greenwood. the next logical person you need to look at is rockne. he is in a position to know and want to know what’s going on and has the means to influence.

It’s mind boggling how Greenwood’s words contradicts itself on where she stood on Jim D continued assignment as UHAD. She says that she decided to “can” him”, but now it shows that she actually offered him a 1-yr extension as UHAD. Total contradiction on her part.

IMHO, she has yet to state point-by point why she felt Jim was not doing his job. Arnett this moning says the UHAD deficit grew under Donovan and implies that was cause to dismiss him. IMHO, the next UHAD will not fare any better and the same deficit will continue to grow. Does this mean that 4 years down the road the BOR will “can” him? Resurgence for football alone will NOT create sufficient funds to reduce the $11-12 million short-fall.

As a BOR for UH, where do their commitment lay? with Greenwood? or, the State of Hawaii, UH and its students? I am of the mind that their alligence should be 1) University of Hawaii as an institution; 2) its students; and 3) State of Hawaii. They should have the responsibility to set the goals/objectives and authorize the UH President to reach said goals/objectives. UH President then develops a plan to accomplish what the BOR has set in place – immediate, short-term, mid-term, and long range plans. In the past 15 years, it appears that a UH President’s longevity has been about 5 years.

I am also of the mind that Greenwood should be replaced for how she has handled the UHAD and Wondergate situation and brought “shame” to UH and may have caused supports/donors to reconsider their support to UH – her remarks indicates that if she was “fair” she would have to “punish” some individual(s) that are “friends” at upper campus (General Counsel’s office and disbursement office and others?). But to sweep things under the rug, she says things went wrong, UH needs to learn/take corrective action, and move on. Yet, there was no hesitation to place Jim D and Rich Sheriff on paid administrative leave. Seems to me that it would have been more appropriate to conduct an investigation first and then take action. Leaderhsip or leadership, where art thou?

I think this “fiasco” will continue to be on people’s mind for some time to come.

I have Joomla and a Joomla template(rt_refraction_j15) installed on my website. But i want the same template and css styling, as a basic HTML template, so i don’t have to use Joomla for editing. Is there an easy way to convert the template to basic HTML/CSS template?.
