Warriors bring the juice

There was a Hawaii Bowl banner to greet the Warriors at the Moana Surfrider yesterday. There were elegant rooms. There was a luau. But was there juice?

The Warriors responded with what the coaches described as their most focused bowl practice today at the Ching Athletic Complex.

“We had a helmets-only practice, and they were dialed in,” coach Nick Rolovich said. “I was really worried, and then today, I think we’ll be ready to play.”

The bowl amenities were “used to motivate them,” Rolovich said. “It wasn’t like they arrived and people owe us this. No, it juiced them back up. It was a positive.”

Former UH linebacker Chris Brown, who is home for the holidays, attended today’s practice. Brown is the linebackers coach at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas. The Gaels finished 15-0 and, according to USA Today, No. 1 nationally.

Bishop Gorman has three football fields. The football team has seven different helmets. They never wear the same game jersey twice.

Brown was greeted warmly by Kevin Lempa, who was Brown’s defensive coordinator for three UH seasons, and former teammates-now-coaches Rolovich, Craig Stutzmann and Abraham Elimimian.

Brown is recognized by current Warriors because his picture on the weight-room wall. Brown benched 500 pounds as a UH senior.

any chance of getting some Bishop Gorman players to UH?

  6. Stephen Tsai December 21, 2016 12:41 pm

They already have two Bishop players at UH — safety Kalen Hicks and linebacker Ikem Okeke. Brown helped direct both to UH.

I am looking forward to the development of Ikem Okeke. He had some devastating hits on special teams this year. He reminds me of Solomon Elimimian.

Chris Brown played 1999-2002, per UH website. Damien High School grad.

Chris Brown – Kinda of UH’s version of the “Manster” when he played LB. Speaking of the weight room, I wonder if the leg press record is still held by (HNN’s) Shawn Ching (over 1000 lbs), along with the Power Clean record (400 lbs) by Stephen Gonzalez?

    Great Evening All!

Nice seeing Chris Brown pics. He’s a great guy! Soaked up much during his time widda Ravens from Mr.Lewis. Glad he had a chance to speak to the team.

It will be interesting to see where the members of that group that was with Coach Stutzmann at Saint Louis move thru the coaching ranks.

As Bulla was fond of saying, “that was a JC staff coaching JV ball.”

During a game against Texas El Paso, I remember Brown picking up an OLineman, twice his size, like a 50 pound bag of rice and powerdriving him into the Halawa turf. Braddah’z a beast. Still is.

    Guud Evening Tsaikos…Bootiful Evening!
Dang Chris looks like he’s ready to rumble! Great pic.

    off topic…
Baylor has been fined $5,000 for NCAA football recruiting violations, the latest blow for a program trying to pick up the pieces from a sexual assault scandal and struggles on the field.
The NCAA announced the punishment Wednesday after an investigation found that assistant football coaches violated NCAA rules in spring 2015. The penalties were not severe, with the NCAA accepting most of the school’s self-imposed punishments, including banning two assistants from off-campus recruiting for 12 weeks and game suspensions that have already been served.
if you want to get sick..read this…my goodness $5K penalty after all the stuff….

Wyoming head coach should have sat his starting QB down after being the victim of a targeting penalty.

It is no wonder he threw an interception on that errant flea-flicker on the very next play.

Gentry may still have been a little woozy when he threw the game-ending INT. There were three Cougars in the vicinity of his receiver.
