brown

In a 16-14 victory over Idaho, Brown made nine tackles, including a fourth-and-goal stop, and intercepted a pass near the goal line to set up the Warriors’ go-ahead drive.

chun

Despite playing with tendinitis in his left knee, Chun converted two field goals, including the winning 25-yarder with 32 seconds to play.

If there is a local honor to give, I’d say that the Special Teams deserved one as the improvement was significant. I watched thew closing seconds of the game again and agree that Tomey did the right thing when he had Hadden pooch that kick. If not for Baily’s remarkable run following that effort, no one would have even second guessed that call.

Terrific effort and great job in improving performance. I still say, watch the film on the kick and see what the guy on the end did not do (he did not block anyone. Lucky the guy was a slow rusher off the edge). Have that corrected and the enite line would look stellar.

  13. Da Punchbowl Kid October 31, 2011 6:56 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Big congratz to Aaron “Big Play” Brown and Kenton “Lil Magic” Chun!

Defense has been keeping us in games and Special Teams are special once again. The offense will be next to blow it up. Keep working hard, Warriors.

  14. eagle October 31, 2011 6:58 am

That was 35 yard game winner … much closer to Kenton’s reliability limit (so way more potential pressure and almost into Tyler’s Range) … [backed up when Idaho didn’t make the challenging kick on their own home field (with no wind and weather elements)]

Congratulations to ALL Special Teams for making a Huge Positive difference and BOTH kickers coming through with Last Minute FGs — the 47 yarder by Tyler Hadden to end the first half was also huge (and gave us Some Expectation that we COULD call upon our kicking game)… and O & D for making the plays needed in the Final Minutes … D Also for holding the whole game — Both Idaho Scores came on “Fumbles”

BEFORE The BOO-Birds Kick-In — Please Consider: Have You Noticed that Even the Top-of-the-Top NFL Millionaires have BAD Games … ANY WIN, even Ugly Ones is still good — Both Teams are giving it whatever they got …

Except for the Rare Undefeated Teams — we’re lucky we had One, most everybody (expected to win) suffers upsets …

  18. Stephen Tsai October 31, 2011 7:11 am

It should be interesting to see what happens when the hurt subsides.

San Jose State is really irked about UH ditching the WAC, so that series won’t be resumed for a long time. (UH would be willing to do a 2-for-1 with SJSU to boost interest in NorCal.)

I think Idaho would be willing to play here.

Utah State probably wants a 2-for-1, although there’s no way UH will ever go back to Logan.

Forget about any home-and-home with Louisiana Tech or New Mexico State.

UH and Utah still haven’t mended fences, although UH was quick to forgive BYU (mostly because people remember the rivalry between the schools in the 1980s, although kids today have no clue who Jim McMahon is.)

  19. CoolEthan October 31, 2011 7:29 am

Pac interest for out of conference, Cal seems to be looking into. EZ in- out venue and good exposure for broadcasting / recruiting.

  30. CoolEthan October 31, 2011 8:25 am

Sorry for the confusion. I accidentally left out several words and should of been asking in form of a question, instead of statement.

‘Is Cal worth looking into for an agreement of 2 for 1 ” ?

  31. uhfan09 October 31, 2011 8:27 am

Does anyone else think that our offense needs to be modified or tweaked because opponents defense looks like they know every play we run.

  32. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 31, 2011 8:34 am

UCLA looks beatable. Wish we could schedule a 2-1 with them or something.

  33. d1shima October 31, 2011 8:39 am

I doubt that UCLA or Cal are interested in a series here.

Every opponent knows what the offense is gonna do…been that way since ’99 (2000 for those slightly thick buggahs).

It’s a matter of executing: alignment, route-running, pre/post snap read, put the ball where it needs to be, fight for yards…

  34. WarriorNY October 31, 2011 8:40 am

    RE: UCLA,

Why haven’t we ever looked into a game with them?

  36. Stretch October 31, 2011 8:42 am

I think Moniz is doing the best he can with the amount of time he has to throw the ball. Even Mack says they need to “protect for him” better.

  37. ai-eee-soos October 31, 2011 8:44 am

    re # 34.

We have, but UCLA don’t want nuthin to do with us.

    Beneath their “dignity ?”.

  38. Kaimuki Kid October 31, 2011 8:47 am

UCLA has never shown any interest in playing here. I believe they have been approached. We just haveb to be satisfied with beating them on the Volleyball court in both Mens and Womens

  39. d1shima October 31, 2011 8:48 am

Hah! There’s not much “dignity” in the Bruin football program these days.

  40. d1shima October 31, 2011 8:49 am

    Stretch,

True. I guess I should add “pass pro” to that execution list.

  41. Kevin October 31, 2011 8:49 am

Besides having the money and overall reputation of PAST athletic successes, I don’t think the University of Hawaii is completely beneath the dignity of a school in which one of their athletic programs dumped their runner up trophy in a trashcan years ago.

  42. tommui October 31, 2011 8:50 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

PAPAJOE #24 – DR’s article – hits the right notes!

DPK and AL and D1 – you guys are up early (relatively)!

  43. d1shima October 31, 2011 8:51 am

That said, sometimes the blocking scheme delegates one rusher as the QB’s man to beat…he’s gotta get the ball out before the guy gets there.

  44. ai-eee-soos October 31, 2011 8:51 am

    re #39 agreed,

no dignity in both the football program, and especially the “coach”.

  45. Kevin October 31, 2011 8:51 am

    There has to be something…

Other PAC 12 schools have played UH in various sports on a frequent basis. UCLA has been absent in ALL sports except volleyball.

  46. d1shima October 31, 2011 8:51 am

    tommui,

Gotta wake up early to see the Great Pumpkin! 😉

  47. Hoohiki October 31, 2011 8:52 am

It’s a Monday. It’s Halloween. UH is 5 and 3. They just won the last game. I don’t know about most of you, but as a fan, I’m getting sick and tired of all the complaining about OUR WARRIORS! I have one simple request today, as my mother always said, “If you can’t say anything nice, just don’t say anything at all”. Can we just apply this rule for today, so we can all, including the Warrior staff, players, families and everyone who loves this team get a reprieve. If you’re really itching to criticize and need to vent your frustration for your survival, find another blog, maybe Idaho’s, or Boise State’s or even Nevada’s for goodness sake. JUST NOT HERE TODAY!

  48. ai-eee-soos October 31, 2011 8:52 am

    RE: UCLA,

So ridiculous… They’d have a good turnout of Hawaii people that live in SoCal.

How about Arizona St? (The last bowl game that we haven’t been embarrassed in) Doesn’t Mack have good relationships with the staff there?

Or Arizona, there are a ton of locals that go there…

  53. Buffoman October 31, 2011 9:18 am

If we could make a ton of money playing Texas in Texas, why not book them? We recruit there and I can almost guarantee we’d be on some TV broadcast, particularly if this was perceived to be an early season bodybag game. Texas has the money so they can pay for a percived sacrifice.

I’d like to see our team play in the Big House, or at Penn State whileoe Pa is still coaching. I have to believe that the player would all want a picture with that history making coach.

While we’re at it, why not get paid to play Duke at Cameron Center, in Basketball.

  54. kruzen October 31, 2011 9:19 am

  58. madeinhawaii October 31, 2011 9:41 am

    uhfan09:

Them knowing and being able to effectively defend against the RnS are two different stories. But the RnS depends on the Chemistry between the QB and his receivers and ball carriers. The Oline has to give him more time when the receivers are green, or create bigger holes for the unseasoned RB. 2006, 2007, and 2010 we had a good mix. I wonder if we would not have gone 13-1 in 2011 if all three – Pilares, Salas, and Green – were in every game. Had Bradley had regained his 2009 speed, athleticsim and agility, would we have gone 14?

  59. Couch potato October 31, 2011 9:47 am

ok why is this critical when raceing well noone like’s broken spoke’s and bent rim’s yes in case you did not know that loose spokes trigger a significant trouble they do anyplace from hole’s in tube’s to bent wheel to broken spokes to total failure and that’s in no way excellent as well as a spoke wrench is actually a critical tool to have i know what a lot of people are thinking man you got me shopping for ton’s of tool’s and equipment to race and yes which is what it takes bare bone’s raceing suck’s noone like’s to complete it and noone want’s to complete it sorry guy’s maybe an individual should really call are president and tell him we need to have emergency moto grant to serve all motocross racer’s across the country

Hey ST, Ummmm….Who is Jim McMahon????

  65. rasu begasu October 31, 2011 10:49 am

When the kicker says “Thank god the kick went through”

it kinda shows that there stil is no confidence in the

    kicking game.

It sounds like he half expected to kick the ball up Ingrams’ okole.

  66. rasu begasu October 31, 2011 10:57 am

I remember picking up Jim McMahon at the airport once.

Literally, had to get a wheelchair attendant to drag him to the limo.

Gave me a weird tip when we got to the Mirage, something like $27.84

    and 6 Canadian bucks

  67. Da Punchbowl Kid October 31, 2011 11:02 am

Moniz does an awesome job with what he has, he takes the sacks, the hits and the ire of certain “fans” and doesn’t complain, bad mouth or try to blame anybody. Those who call for his benching or worse must not have been around last year, when, with decent protection and seasoned receivers and a NFL caliber running back, the whole offense looked great, and Moniz was a legit Heisman candidate. We are lucky to have Moniz. Nuff said.

  68. rasu begasu October 31, 2011 11:03 am

going to a Halloween costume party tonight.

asked Mrs LV what I should dress as? “just be yourself”

    was her answer.

  69. Couch potato October 31, 2011 11:09 am

    #65, he also said,

“Once it got into my range, I knew I was either kicking an extra-point or I was kicking a field goal. So when it came down to fourth down, I just went out there and trusted everybody because they all executed flawlessly: the line, the snap, the hold.”

looks to me he has all the confidence in the world.

  70. Da Punchbowl Kid October 31, 2011 11:10 am

    rasu –

Have you retired your “Kam Fong” Halloween look from other years? I must say, you looked quite convincing.

  71. Couch potato October 31, 2011 11:12 am

his thank God comment could also mean that is tired of hearing and reading crap about the kicking game and just wants some of the 7 billion people out there to appreciate the hard work they are putting in the kicking game.

  72. rasu begasu October 31, 2011 11:13 am

    Mr.DPK,

I was gonna wear my “Kono 2011” costume this

year but the bikini was a tad too small.

  73. rasu begasu October 31, 2011 11:15 am

    #71. 7 Billion people? really?

I gotta look that one up

  74. rasu begasu October 31, 2011 11:18 am

I certainly hope all those people living in the slums of India,

  79. Kaimuki Kid October 31, 2011 11:47 am

    Kevin,

    ,

Logan’s Run or perhaps Soylent Green:

In 2022, the population has grown to forty million people in New York City alone. Housing is dilapidated and overcrowded; homeless people fill the streets and line fire escapes and stairways. Food is scarce; most of the population survives on rations produced by the Soylent Corporation, whose newest product is Soylent Green, a small green wafer advertised to contain “high-energy plankton”. It is more nutritious and palatable than the other varieties but is in short supply, which leads to food riots. Protagonist Robert Thorn is a New York City Police Department detective living with his aged friend Solomon “Sol” Roth, a former scholar who searches the remnants of written records to help Thorn’s investigations.

Thorn investigates the murder of William R. Simonson, a director of the Soylent Corporation while helping himself to the latter’s food, liquor, bathroom, and books. He questions Shirl, an attractive concubine (referred to as “furniture”), and Simonson’s bodyguard, Tab Fielding, who claims to have escorted Shirl shopping when the attack took place.

Returning to his apartment, Thorn gives Roth the Soylent Oceanographic Survey Report, 2015 to 2019 taken from Simonson’s apartment; then tells his Lieutenant (Hatcher) that he suspects an assassination on grounds that nothing was stolen from the apartment and the murder seemed professional, whereas the apartment’s sophisticated alarm and monitoring electronics failed to detect the murder and Fielding to prevent it.

After questioning Fielding’s mistress, Martha, Thorn returns to his apartment. When he presents Roth with strawberry jam taken from Fielding’s apartment, Roth declares it too great a luxury for the concubine of a bodyguard. Thorn returns to question Shirl again; whereupon she tells him that Simonson became troubled in the days before his death. Thorn questions a priest whom Simonson had visited but the priest at first fails to remember Simonson and is later unable to describe the latter’s confession. Fielding later murders the priest, suspecting him of telling Thorn Simonson’s confession to silence him. When Thorn begins discovering why Simonson was murdered, New York State’s Governor Joseph Santini, once Simonson’s partner in a high-profile law firm, orders the investigation closed; but Thorn disobeys. When Thorn is on riot duty at the distribution of rations, Simonson’s murderer is dispatched by the Soylent Corporation to kill him but is crushed by a riot-control vehicle.

Roth examines Soylent’s oceanographic reports; he and his fellows discover that the oceans no longer produce the plankton from which Soylent Green is said to be made and that it is now made of the human dead. Unable to live with this discovery, Roth seeks assisted suicide at a government clinic in Madison Square Garden. There, Roth tells Thorn the secret of Soylent Green and begs him to follow his body to the processing center and report to the other scholars.

Thorn does so and sees human corpses converted into Soylent Green. Returning to make his report, he is ambushed by Fielding and retreats into a cathedral filled with homeless people, where he kills Fielding.

When police arrive, Thorn urges Hatcher to spread the word that “Soylent Green is PEOPLE!”.

    [edit]

DPK, I think that I would prefer Grace Park as Kono if it was in a bikini

  81. SteveM October 31, 2011 11:50 am

    rasu as Kono 2011?

    ….must really be Halloween 😐

    Jim McMahon?

I always associated Coach Lavell Edwards as the face of BYU football.

  82. Kaimuki Kid October 31, 2011 11:50 am

Should be a interesting game this Saturday…Go Warriors!

  83. A-House October 31, 2011 11:56 am

Geesh, I thought that my first amendment right of free speech also applied to what opinions I post on this blog; favorable or unfavorable about Warrior football.

Please, someone, correct me if I am wrong!

  84. A-House October 31, 2011 11:58 am

Now that it’s out of my system, I feel that UH will crush USU on 11/5/11.

Jus gotta take care of containing the QB and WR. Are they “hurting” like UH?

  85. Buffoman October 31, 2011 12:00 pm

I think if you were to poll those who are critical, most absolutely love the Warriors. Their criticism are at time unwarranted. I agree with DPK that our QB is the best fit and the coaches are right to keep him as the #1. I did say that he may be having a particularly bad game and maybe having another come in (as they did when Colt was not having a good outing) would help the team, but he would remain our best option.

Now I have a son and he used to have the bad habit of actively digging his nose in public when it suited him. He was young and did not know better. So, I made it a point to correct that behavior and was critical of his behavior when he did not remember that such action was not acceptable to our family. I love my son.

I believe that the criticism regarding the predictability, the mental errors, the poor fundamentals, etc., is akin to my son’s unacceptable behavior. There’s a better way to address the matter and the fans are criticising the inability of the particular team pieces to adhere to what would be acceptable: fundamental football, played as a team in the best position to win, by cutting back on selfish play, poort form tackling, running with the ball “like a loaf of bread”, etc.

That does not mean the fan blogger do not love the team.

Then of course, you have those folks (“fans”)who are just mean spirited and they for the most part are like those parents who need to have their children taken away from them for fear of abuse.

  86. A-House October 31, 2011 12:03 pm

Interesting that Corey feels that other teams are targeting his knees.

Whenever BYU, with Jim McMahon came to Aloha Stadium, I would yell, much to the distress to Mrs A-House and Midori, “aim for his knees”. Even people around us thought I was unsportsmen like – more like disgusted by my remarks.

Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat!

  87. Kevin October 31, 2011 12:06 pm

    Kaimuki Kid,

Was scrolling upwards on your post and thought it was SPAM for a sec! 😆

For the most part, I am VERY skeptical on our ability as a human race to further co-exist as more and more of us are being brought into this world.

If some people cannot exist to get along with others in cyberspace, as this and many blogs have shown, what the hell does one think will happen in real life.

I’m sorry, but our time is up VERY soon and I have joked about 2012, but our demise will be at our own hand.

We have learned to make new toys for ourselves such as iDevices to further boost our status in society (we all do it… just admit it), but still history will repeat itself. Rome fell and we are no better than that.

#87… Kevin… your remarks on this are interesting. I just got through reading the same thing in the November 2011 issue of National Geographic… “Rift in Paradise”. Something about having too many people and not enough land, which lead to the genocide.

Good to see Kaimuki Kid again!

  89. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 31, 2011 12:29 pm

We have someone currently on staff that could possibly help us a long long way in terms of scheduling BCS opponents.

Now I am sure JD is capable 100% to parse the deals out etc. No doubt.

That being said, Tomey was the President of that college football coaches association. My guess is that he has the “hook ups” on several campuses.

As soon as he was hired I thought we could start a series with Arizona/Arizona St. Now that would be a fun series.

  90. Da Punchbowl Kid October 31, 2011 12:29 pm

    A-house, Buffoman,

I think its healthy to speak your mind on this blog. Some folks take it a bit too far though, and those are the folks who might want to consider their words carefully. I wasn’t referencing anybody in particular in my post about Moniz. It was meant more as praise for Moniz rather than a critique of the posters here. We are ALL Warrior fans here.

The thing is China and India are coming on strong in economic development but they have an economic gap within their society that is greater than the US. Europe is a mess and the Middle East can’t even remember what started all the hatred 2,000 years ago. Solutions I am not sure there is a way to slow the population increase down to a managable level, the US , Japan and China is rapidly ageing…. Now I depressed my self, got to go to the gane and unwind and yell at the refs… Go Wariors!

  94. Garret October 31, 2011 12:40 pm

There have been a number of teams that offered UH at least $1 mil, but UH has turned them down. That is UH’s choice, and it should be noted that the $1+ mil doesn’t include travel expenses, so UH profits less from paycheck games than mainland schools.

Texas has filled its football schedule through 2018. All of their nonconference games are already under contract. They just finished a home-and-home with UCLA, and have these matchups coming up:

Notre Dame (long series of home-and-home games)

    Wyoming (part of a 2-for-1)

New Mexico (taking a $1+ mil payday)

NMSU (taking a $1+ mil payday)

    Mississippi (home-and-home)

    BYU (2-for-1)

    Arkansas (home-and-home)

    Cal (home-and-home)

    Maryland (home-and-home)

Michigan and other schools complete their football schedules way in advance. If UH wanted to play those games anytime soon, they needed to be schedule 6-8 years ago when HF was in charge.

Basketball teams don’t give big paychecks to the visiting teams, only football teams get that type of money.

  95. A-House October 31, 2011 12:53 pm

    Scheduling UCLA:

My nephew says what has UCLA to gain by scheduling football games with Hawaii? Apparently very little or nothing!

If the UHAD can answer this question, maybe they can negotiate playing in the future.

Just like convincing ESPN that UH has a much broader fan base then the “secret” selected households in Hawaii who determine “number of households” watching the game.

  96. Bowwar October 31, 2011 12:56 pm

Negativity is NOT needed…It’s one thing to “criticize” the team, but another thing to be “negative.” If you have “constructive criticism” then that is more than welcome as long as its reasonable. I think everyone associated with the team (i.e. coaches and players) are doing their 110% best to WIN games, so we all need to keep that in perspective. Afterall, we’re 5-3 and have a winning record so far, yet some are soooo negative about the team. There are alot of places where they’d love our effort and our current record…

Note: We’re NO way close to being the teams of the Von Appen days…So, why where a “paper bag” on your heads now…

  97. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 31, 2011 12:57 pm

    #95,

Recruiting in Hawaii is a good reason. That’s why Sarks has been very positive about bringing UW down in the future and enjoys his trips here.

UW in reality is a very tough program to get H-H’s if you are a non-BCS school.

  98. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 31, 2011 12:58 pm

    Garret:

I recall that Texas was supposed to play in Hawaii about seven or eight years ago but backed out. June Jones made a comment that Mack Brown could not have been originally from Texas because Texans always could be counted on to keep their word. texas never re-scheduled Hawaii after that.

  104. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 31, 2011 1:05 pm

I got no shame in the players or or program. And quite frankly a paper bag is uncomfortable to wear. 😛

My issue is that we can do better with our staff. There are a lot of great assistants out there who are hungry and/or currently unemployed.

The foundation for success and the potential of our athletes are there, we just need a better catalyst.

I watch a lot of the National Geographic Channel…

Interesting series with “Taboo” a series dedicated to things that aren’t of the “social norm” as defined by Western society. I also love “Locked Up Abroad”.

Lots of interesting programming around the history of humanity and the cycles we tend to repeat no matter how many advances we make in technology or education.

That “Taboo” series is a good one. Was there one in which they’d take razor blades to cut kids prior to their rites of passage? The lengths that people go through to prove their worth! “Locked Up Abroad” was definitely an eye opener too.

In these days of austerity in addition to relative anxiousness about running into debt, lots of people balk up against the idea of employing a credit card to make purchase of merchandise or perhaps pay for a vacation, preferring, instead just to rely on this tried plus trusted method of making repayment – raw cash. However, in case you have the cash there to make the purchase completely, then, paradoxically, that’s the best time for them to use the credit card for several motives.

  117. Wes'side Warrior October 31, 2011 1:32 pm

True, KK! And they now control lots of the economy through their weapons and tactics. No one strong enough to stop them, in and out of restricted/protected areas.

Anyways, hope you all have a great and safe Halloween!

My street is totally dead! Only my porch light and that of a neighbor several houses down the road is on! Everyone else is home (all cars in the driveway) but all lights are off. Never seen anything like it anywhere I’ve been! Wife and kids went the street over for some trick-or-treating!

    IWWTHM:

UCLA does NOT have to schedule UH to recruit – Hawaii players go there any way!

eg, the RB from Punaho who has already accepted a scholarship offer from UCLA; what about the Maui or Big Island player who has also committed to UCLA?

softball is a non-entity sport for UCLA as is men’s VB with all those national championships!

softball cheated several year ago by using the Austrilian pither who never went to class, but was their “ace” – they won, but NCAA vacated their championship.

students told us in 1995 when UCLA hosted the Final 4 – only reason they attended the game was to keep UH fans from being in the majority! that’s the only reason they were there – they could care less if UCLA won the national championship – again!

Kevin, in the article, there actually are rebel warriors in Africa who believe that they had to kill off scores of people so that there would be more food and resources for those left. Unreal to actually take such extreme action and believe they are doing the right thing.

Not sure what the situation is that you are referring to, probably warring states? In any case is it really that far off from our basic survival instincts?

We’re nasty SOBs by nature and centuries of refinement have silenced those survival instincts, is it wrong to kill so you won’t be killed or starve? Killing for survival happens in nature amongst animals and we cannot believe we won’t be pushed to that.

Killing to survive shouldn’t and cannot be viewed as a sin. God didn’t start existing when MAN decided to write about Him.

Again I do not know the circumstance of the actions of those rebels as you mention, but just taking it word for word, it’s not surprising or “unreal” to me. Maybe my expectations of humanity have lowered dramatically over the past decade, but I see no improvement.

From the little things in society that are LAUGHABLE… (when the hell did Kim Kardashian’s divorce become headline worthy news in a failing economy?????) to the down right depressing nature of our own country’s actions towards each other (see post 9-11-2001 events in our society regarding both political and religious discrimination) these are just indicators of a failing culture and new advancements in technology or education only distracts us from the fact that we have let ourselves slip in ways that cannot be measured by materialsim.

We’ve had so MANY opportunities to right the ship. I point to 9-11-2011 as a pivotal time where we could truly unite despite ethnic, religious or political biases, but that lasted like what???? A week or when US flag sales went down? Which ever came first I guess…. 🙄

Like in football, you only have so many downs.

The Herminator is gone…he had ties to ASU… 😉

With the 9 conference games, 3 out of conference games plus the PAC-12 Championship game if they qualify, you’ll be looking at 14 games if UH was scheduled. That would take away their bye weeks. Their early season non-conference schedules are already set for the next few years.

Who knows if the PAC-12 will exist with all of the shuffling around that is going on.

2012 – NAU, Illinois, Oregon, UCLA, Utah, Washington State, AWAY GAMES – Missouri, Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon State, USC

2012 – Sacramento State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame

Some teams don’t want to schedule us at home because they are too scared that they might lose to Hawaii. It’s the Head Coach who pulls the strings in the scheduling. Guys like Mack Brown and Mark Richt down want to come here, but would be more than willing to play us at their place. What happend to home and home? That’s why I admire teams like Wisconsin, Oregon State, and Washington for willing to schedule us here. Also, Colorado. Wisconsin (bless them after 2 hail marys) loves to come here because they kick out butts everytime with their huge offensive line and blow us off the ball with 250+ lbs. running backs like Ron Dayne and John Clay.

The man for all seasons: Isaac Sopoanga, defensive tackle, blocking fullback, and tight end.

    June Jones must be smiling.

NFL Coach of the Year: In a landslide so far, Jim Harbaugh.

Who leads the NFL in rushing defense: SF 49ers.

What NFL team as allowed the least points: SF 49ers.

Who has thrown the fewest interceptions: Alex Smith, SF 49ers tied w/ another QB.

The Niners are not blowing out people, but as a team they are complementing each other very welll. They have the best punter in the league with Andy Lee, they have a first rate kicker in David Ackers, they have one of the best kickoff and punt return man in Ted Ginn.

They have a solid rushing game w/ Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter and an ever improving offensive line. They use multiple tight ends to run the ball to move the chains. Alex Smith just manages the game and not screw it up. The strength of the defense is the front 7. The secondary is average, but getting better with each game. Wide receivers are so so but just enough. Harbaugh is such an innovator with different personnel groups. Everybody on the team is contributing. Can you say PLAYOFFS!!!!!

  125. mikey October 31, 2011 1:37 pm

It’s nice to see former Warriors doing well on Sunday!

UH Warriors of Hawaii Players doing well on NFL Sunday

Davone Bess WR, Dolphins: 3 catches for 43 yards and 1 punt for 13 yards

Mat McBriar P Cowboys: 3 punt for 37.7 yards and reinjured his left foot (not his punting foot).

Kealoha Pilares WR Panthers: 3 kickoff returns for 63 yards 1 special teams solo tackle.

Greg Salas WR Rams: 5 catches for 47 yards, 1 run for 8 yards

Isaac Sopoaga DT 49ers: 1 solo tackle for a loss, one fumble recovery and one pass reception for 18 yards.

Travis LaBoy LB SD Charges plays tonight.

Sopoaga Pass Receiver? 18 yards at that…

    Go Warriors!

“Rudy, Rudy, Rudy…” Contratulations & MAHALO to: 1) special teams for a dramatic improvement – Kenton Chun reminded me of that football movie. Bruddah, we were/ are inspired. 2) D! Kept us in the game & played clean. Aron Brown…wow. 3) Mo, takin a beating, but keeps looking for a way.

COACH MACK, probably tired of hearing this, but the “play your best players” mantra…gotta be a few guys from D you could sub in on O line to cover Mo’s blind side. Especially when opposing teams D starts swooping down unhindered like super heros. (Hats off to Idaho’s D – got some quickness & determination.) At some point the accumulation of hits could seriously injure Mo. He already had a mild cuncussion from the USC game.

WARRIORS & fans remember. We beat mighty Ben Rothleisburger & Miami Ohio when they came here!! Man they were flaming nuha.

Good coaches come into the NFL with great schemes that work right away. Great coaches are able to readjust after there is enough film on them for their opponents to scheme against them….

    Ex.: Josh McDaniels

As a Niner Fan, I hope Harbaugh is one of the latter.

  135. Ralph October 31, 2011 1:48 pm

IDKWTHM JD won’t schedule Arizona/Arizona State, they are not counted as possible wins, therefore we get to play South Alabama and Lamars. JD wants to assure UH reacting the 7 win mark to play in the Sheraton Bowl. When we play in a conference, like the WAC or MWC, with so many teams in the 100+ sagarin ratings, you would think that he wouldn’t have to schedule cream puffs for OC games unless he, himself, thinks his own team is weak.

  136. Bleed Green and White October 31, 2011 1:48 pm

    Well, maybe it’s just me….

I continue to read comments both on this blog and as comments to Ferd’s article, and Hawaii fans continue to rip on UH quarterback Bryant Moniz.

    I don’t get it.

The kid (young man), continues to amaze me. Most QB’s, Chang, Brennan et-all, in my belief, would’ve folded by now. The type of punishment he’s taken, having to run to by time, throw on the run etc, and with poor play to boot at offensive line, he’s been awesome, Sure, he has missed some open receivers on long routes, but for the most part, what he’s withstood has been astonishing.

Kid gets beat-down every game, almost every offensive snap it seems, yet he continues to bounce back up and make plays, extend plays etc…..

Mr. Moniz, I, for one, am a huge fan, best wishes brother….!

Am I not watching the same games some of you are…..”

  137. Wes'side Warrior October 31, 2011 1:49 pm

    #95… Mr. A-House’s nephew…

True, what does UCLA stand to gain? But, look at Garret’s post #94 above… with Texas scheduling “what-would-they-gain” games against New Mexico, New Mexico State, Wyoming, etc.

Our biggest obstacle in the past was that we were demanding home-and-home series with BCS schools, while others are more than willing to make the trip to help balance their budget.

Look at UCLA’s schedule this year: @ Houston (which they lost), and hosting San Jose State, which they barely won. It’s not like they don’t schedule non-AQ’s or travel to non-AQ stadiums. And, they open at Rice next season.

We need to seriously reconsider our home-and-home position.

  138. Shoko October 31, 2011 1:49 pm

Yea, I remember that close hanger hit against USC that Mo took. One thing that always impressed me about Mo was that he could take a hit. Not too many QB’s can say that.

    Sometime with slpit screen.

There are 20 other NFL team channels

  140. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 31, 2011 1:53 pm

    A-House,

Well UW does NOT have to schedule Hawaii to recruit since they do the All-Poly camp here etc etc.

But they do because there is an advantage of being on the island and playing on the island. Sarks knows that.

Any time you can be physically present in the area you are recruiting, the more advantageous it is.

  141. d1shima October 31, 2011 1:54 pm

*Slightly off-topic* (when has that ever really mattered to me?)

Lots of things get figured into the college selection process for every HS student and family, but how’s this one?

This family has two kids who are four years apart. Older one goes off to mainland skoo (speeled on purpose lidat for papajoe2’s sake), younger one starts 9th Grade at same HS as the older one.

Three years down the road erryboddy start thinking about Graduation. Come to find out the mainland college always schedule their Commencement on Memorial Day weekend….same as the HS here in Hawaii! Aiyah!

  147. mikey October 31, 2011 2:06 pm

Is that why 49ers are winning all the NFL Games?

    Go Sopoaga!

  148. IMUA HAWAII October 31, 2011 2:09 pm

OFFENSE, one bright moment… Mo faked the handoff to Iosefa, both executed the sell AT A BOISE level, short pass left to Stutz for a very fluid TD! Probably the smoothest & best executed play all year. Congratulations!! Y’all gonna lock in tight. I can feel it.

  151. Derek October 31, 2011 2:15 pm

d1Shima, don’t worry. Harbaugh has not gotten the right QB yet, unless he can coach Alex Smith to throw the ball a lot better and get some better wide receivers. When the 49ers can throw the ball much better, at around 260 yards per game and run the ball for about 140 yards, you are talking about 400 yards offense. In the NFL that’s pretty good. Harbaugh seems to be playing smash mouth football which in the NFL will always work. Running the ball effectively keeps you in the game and keeps your defense fresher too. You don’t want a lot of 3 and outs. Harbaugh is a very good evaluator of QBs and knows what players he want on his team. I’m from far away, but you have already seen what he has done at UC San Diego and at Stanford. When did you think Stanford would be a powerhouse with a bruising rushing game, not to mention the best QB in the country. It’s gotta be the coach and his coaching staff. That’s what I hope that we have here or will have at the University of Hawaii. On this level, don’t estimate the value of having a very good Head Football Coach. There are plenty of examples and you can name them yourself.

Just a few, Urban Meyer, Chris Peterson, Steve Sarkisian.

    Broken News

Tebow Rated WORST QB in the NFL!

*Coming from a Denver Broncos Sports Columnist, it’s a scathing interview!*

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-around-the-league/09000d5d823a8889/Tebow-is-worst-quarterback-NFL

  154. Kevin October 31, 2011 2:21 pm

    A-House,

I prefer to yell for ankles. While both debilitating to opposing QBs, the ankle is a far more tender area.

  155. Kekoa October 31, 2011 2:26 pm

So much for the Heisman QB selected ahead of Colt. Denver owes Colt a tryout so they can learn the truth about the QB they should have selected.

    Re *79

Dude, can you PLEASE put a spoiler warning on your posts?

I’ve been waiting to see that movie for, like, thirty two years now.

  157. RedZone October 31, 2011 2:37 pm

I don’t want Colt to go to Denver. They have more problems they need to fix first.

  158. A-joe October 31, 2011 2:37 pm

There are many factors in scheduling big programs to play us.

Most Big schools would rather just pay us to play on their turf and that’s it. They stand to make 10 fold on home games. Hawaii would prefer to have a home and home series.

SEC rarely travels out of their confines to play non conference games. They are willing to pay handsomely for us to travel there. But as Garrett has alluded to, travel expenses gobbles up a huge chunk of that $1 Mil payout. Getting an SEC team here to play would be a bigger financial boon for the program. But, it’s waaay to risky for them to make such a leap. It’s a rarity to see an SEC team play a game west of the rockies. Much less Hawaii.

PAC-12 teams can only schedule non conference games in the first three weeks of the season. That’s it. New league rules.

Most Big schools wouldn’t want to risk playing us early in the season. Losing to us ruins their chances of a shot at the national championship. In ’07 there a deal was agreed on that had UH traveling to Ann Arbor to play the Wolverines. Lloyd Carr got wind of it and immediately reneged on the deal. He didn’t want Colt eating his boys alive. Instead, they opted to play a more cream puff team in Appalachian State. Or so they thought.

With all this conference realignment almost all schools can’t play us towards the end of the season due to conference championships.

It’s not as easy as you might think to schedule a season of opponents.

Hopefully, they catch the guy soon.

Today, a lot of them brought in candy . . . to give me.

    Cool! Definitely scoop up!!!

  195. wafan October 31, 2011 4:45 pm

Was his younger brother 23 or 24?

  206. Mercurial Vapor Superfly October 31, 2011 8:12 pm

The Volt is used on the Nike soccer cleats Tiempo Legend IV – Summit White/Gold/Volt in some New nike soccer shoes certainly interesting ways, lining the inside of the Nike mercurial soccer cleats boot, crowning the studs and highlighting the branding on the tongue.

You’ll notice on the Nike Mercurial Superfly Elite model that it also appears on the Mercurial Vapor Superfly heel tabs that boost visibility, and on small signature Nike Mercurial Vapors tick on the all-gold tongue.

In a similar manner to the Orange of the launch Nike Football Cleats colourway, the Elite version of the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly Tiempo Legend IV – Summit White/Gold/Volt matches it’s contrasting tongue with Mercurial Vapor Superfly 3 some gold-coloured laces that really finish off a classy overall look.
