Vegas hideaway; telecast info

LAS VEGAS — As part of their usual road schedule, the Warriors will have a walk-through practice this afternoon at Sam Boyd Stadium.

After that, any additional work will be addressed at the Warrior complex.

UH has managed to create an atmosphere in which the players are sequestered for most of the day. Headquarters is the hotel’s spacious second floor, where the Warriors have access to a fitness center and pool. One large room has been turned into an equipment room. Even the laundry bins were brought over from Hawaii.

Another room is the training room, which is available to the players until 11 p.m. (the curfew).

There is a back corridor that leads to two large ballrooms. The front entry to the ballrooms is closed to the general public. One ballroom is used for meetings and video sessions. The other room is used as a dining hall, study hall and “office,” where video coordinator Chris Williams can edit.

To keep active, the players have had tournaments in the hotel’s bowling center.

Last night, the team attended the “Warrior” movie in the hotel’s multi-plex.

* * * * *

From the best that I can gather, tomorrow’s game will show in Hawaii on CBS Sports cable (which is different from just regular CBS). If you have digital, it’s on channel 247 or (in HD) channel 1247. If you are a pay-per-view subscriber, the sports pack, which includes that channel, is included. If not, and you have digital, you can sign up for that channel.

RE WATCHING SATURDAY’S GAME AT THE STAN:

I called Carl Clapp’s office about twenty minutes ago – the staff had no information but gave me two numbers to call at The Stan – 956-6955 and 956-6957. Voiicemail activated on both of them, but I am not able to receive phone calls until after 3:30 pm – will be on the road or in meetings until then -so I didn’t leave any messages.

See my post yesterday as to why I am not able to talk while driving.

There’s also no updated information on the Department’s website so I think it would be realistic to assume that the televised game will NOT be shown at The Stan tomorrow afternoon.

    Orff to work.

  81. Ballpicker September 16, 2011 9:03 am

The quantity of particulars in here is incredible, as if you practically wrote the book on the matter. Your blog is wonderful for anyone who wants to be familiar with this subject more. Amazing stuff; please continue the good work!

We shouldn’t complain about parking rates for UH events.

Paid $25 at UDub dorm for UH football game,

about a mile walk from the stadium.

Would have cost $30 if we had 1 or 2 in the car.

    3+ people charged $25

    how you figga?

Interesting.. Kapono’s going up to SMU to sing “Heart of a Warrior” for the Mustangs. JJ has a video of his Mustangs set to the song, too, which he plays for the team.

  89. madeinhawaii September 16, 2011 9:44 am

This is the season you’d like to see Hawaii and SMU square off in a bowl game. We finally have our RnS working and it would be a long, interesting matchup.

  90. BigWave96744 September 16, 2011 9:56 am

Before you bet the house on Hawaii and give away 18-20.5 points, remember 2003 and 2009 when the Warriors came into Vegas as a big favorite after a week at a PAC10 school (USC ’03 and WAZZU ’09) and looked at the UNLV game as Tune Up, Practice Session, Cake Walk, etc.

Our inexperience Oline at the start of the year is now without Chauncey and Sean on the right side, replaced with former walkon Faaumu and 5th year junior Legay. Our most consistent receiver Miah is out. UNLV’s WR Payne (6’3”) is back for his senior year and will be watched by Tank (5’10”), again.

Did the Rain storms, hinder the impact on the Warrior’s practice this week?

I know the Warriors will win, but I hope they prove me wrong and blowout the spread..

  91. slenzi September 16, 2011 9:57 am

This could be the year. Would be great if both teams have great records going in. Hawaii can; not sure about SMU after their last game. But it would be a beautiful game.

  92. BigWave96744 September 16, 2011 9:57 am

Lots SMU fans have been complaining about June’s Lei and Mustang Mana.. They say they June should represent cowboys and Texas, not Hawaii and Polynesia

  93. slenzi September 16, 2011 10:04 am

Warriors cannot afford to forget. Gotta stay focused. One snap and clear; one game at a time. Hope the Hawaii Defense remembers LA Tech taking out QB Greg Alexander last time out in Ruston. Not an illegal hit on Alexander, but you should give as well as you receive. LA Tech defense rallies around video of that hit; so we know they are coming after Mo! Let’s make sure we do most of the heavy hitting.

As an addendum to Stephen’s information about tomorrow’s game on Oceanic. If you’re NOT a PPV subscriber, it’ll cost you $60 to get the Sports Pass (for 247 or 1247, if you have HD). It’s a one-time flat rate, and you’ll be able to view channels on the Sports Pass through Dec. 31. After that, if you want to keep the Sports Pass, it’ll cost you $4.95 a month. So, a $4.95 premium channel is now $60. I guess Oceanic had to find a way to appease PPV purchasers, and not give the game away for free.

  107. madeinhawaii September 16, 2011 10:56 am

Bah… Oceanic had to find a way to appease their own pocketbooks.. nothing to do with appeasing PPV purchasers.

Na Wahine at Pepperdine tonight at 7 p.m. The Wahine will be playing among the tall trees again- the Waves OH and RS are 6’4, the other OH is 5’10, and both MB are 6’3.

A friend called Oceanic and UH – UNLV Game will be shown on Oceanic’s pay-per-view for those who purchased the season package for free. You can also pay $60 and get a handful of channels that includes CBS Sport through 12/31/11 and see the game on channel 1247.

  131. al September 16, 2011 1:18 pm

I thought their pay per view was on another channel but looks like Oceanic is taking advantage of CBSSports network. Ok Bobbie and Johnny guess I’ll listen to the game tomorrow. Anyone knows of a different way to watch the game other than a sports bar.

  137. mikey September 16, 2011 1:32 pm

Hawaii: OT Sean Shigimatsu (knee) out for the year, OG Chauncey Winchester-Makainai (knee) doubtful, Miah Ostrowski (foot) doubtful

But they have their’s as well, too.

UNLV: DE B.J. Bell (ankle) questionable, LB C.J. Cox (ankle) questionable, OL Jason Koontz (back) questionable, TE Kyle Watkins (knee) questionable, WR Marcus Sullivan (academics) questionable, DB Corbin Brown (ankle) questionable, RB Eric Johnson (academics) out indefinitely, RB Deonte Purvis (ankle) out indefinitely, TE Aaron Reed (knee) out indefinitely

No excuses… Give ’em Warriors! Whoootah!

  145. rasu begasu September 16, 2011 2:03 pm

    Typical frustration of UNLV fans

    .

5 of the past 7 years have been 2-win seasons for UNLV. 2 wins! This year we’ve been outscored 110 to 24 points. I love UNLV but seasons and seasons of garbage football have taken a toll. It’s embarrassing. The difference between UNR and UNLV is they have an on-campus stadium they can build tradition around each year and Vegas is stuck with a piece of crap dump in no-mans land that symbolizes loserville. Hawaii will kill us. Southern Utah might kill us. All we do is lose and lose and lose and lose in football. And then other times we lose ugly. The situation has become serious and it’s time to change. An opportunity to build a real stadium for UNLV is here and I really hope Nevada officials don’t miss the boat on it. There’s no reason why every single town in America has to have a much better football team than Las Vegas. And there’s a TON of reasons why Las Vegas SHOULD produce an elite football team. Build the new stadium on UNLV’s campus and watch it transform the school, and the city… because after 30 years of the same inexcusable nonsense, it’s time to create something. My question is how can the public get involved and help support the new stadium? We’re WAY overdue on this.

    .

    some simalarities at UH?

  146. Wes'side Warrior September 16, 2011 2:04 pm

From the Metro News UK. September 13, 2011

    China

Zhang Nan was bathing with live eels to cleanse his skin when one rogue serpent took a liking to his manhood.

Rushing himself to hospital, the man underwent a three-hour operation to remove the eel which was dead by the time doctors found it. The hospital said the eel was six inches long, Zhang Nan begged to differ and claimed it was eight inches long. Okay, I made the last part up.

  172. Ralph September 16, 2011 3:39 pm

No, the Bills have been lost in the woods for years, it’s a good time for the Raiders to invade Buffalo.

  177. oldtimer808 September 16, 2011 4:41 pm

Can some of you good people advise me on what would be the best system to get DishTV or DirectTV and if I went that route would I be able to pickup Oceanic channel 12 for the UH volleyball matches.

  178. Kenisha Gagner September 16, 2011 4:42 pm

    This is difficult to believe.

  179. Hawaiianbod September 16, 2011 4:43 pm

Steele Jantz is making a nice comeback.

  180. Hawaiianbod September 16, 2011 4:46 pm

oldtimer – DISH and DirectTV does ntr include any OC channels.

  181. Hawaiianbod September 16, 2011 4:47 pm

    *not*

“DirectTV does not include any OC channels.”

Who cares I don’t. OC 12 does a crappy job anyway.I’m done with Oceanic.

  184. oldtimer808 September 16, 2011 5:22 pm

Mahalo because I’m dissatisfied with Oceanic but if I am unable to see the UH Wahine volleyball matches than what are the alternatives.

  185. oldtimer808 September 16, 2011 5:23 pm

Now I know why we are missing K5

  186. oldtimer808 September 16, 2011 5:24 pm

Hawaiianbod where is Jantz playing at

  187. madeinhawaii September 16, 2011 5:27 pm

    HawaiianBod..

4 attempts.. 4 interceptions.. that means that 100% of his passes got caught.

Just trying to be optimistic here.

  188. oldtimer808 September 16, 2011 5:33 pm

I did a search on Jantz…Iowa State..he had 3 interceptions and 1 touchdown pass against Conn. He is doing well. Iowa State beat Conn. hahaha no can spell Conn.

  189. Hawaiianbod September 16, 2011 5:33 pm

oldtimer – Iowa State. He pulled it out in da 2nd half.

    MIH – lol

  190. Slugger September 16, 2011 5:36 pm

Doesn’t look like anyone wants/needs the WVB ticket for tonight. I’ll take it with me and give it away.

    GO WAHINE!!!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  191. oldtimer808 September 16, 2011 5:38 pm

My motherinlaw would be unhappy if she could not watch the wahines play on TV and since OC has a monopoly on UH sports it will be difficult to change to Direct or Dish

  192. madeinhawaii September 16, 2011 5:38 pm

How the game was won: Iowa State trailed 10-0 early on, just as it did against Iowa last week. The Cyclones took a third-quarter lead and earned it back in the fourth quarter with their third consecutive fourth-quarter comeback and a 24-20 win. Quarterback Steele Jantz threw three interceptions on his first four pass attempts, and suffered what looked like an ugly lower leg injury just before halftime, but bounced back for a strong second half.

    Looks like it was three…

  193. madeinhawaii September 16, 2011 5:40 pm

Must have been some ugly game, but the scores were low so Iowa State Defense must have done their job.

    Warriors! Pay attention!…

    WIN!

  194. LizKauai (iPad) September 16, 2011 5:48 pm

oldtimer808- I walked away from Oceanic several years ago and haven’t looked back. I am happy with Dish.

Hawaiianbod yep well thats life can’t think of yourself but I enjoy watching the wahines too so if I can figure out how to watch the wahines without OC and going to the games which I can’t than I will switch services.

  206. Hawaiianbod September 16, 2011 6:41 pm

oldtimer – well, there are two options:

    1) If money is not an issue, u can keep Oceanic (and just get the basic plan) then subscribe to either DISH or DirectTV and hook it up to your other tv set(s).

    2) Ask if any of your friends who subscribes to Oceanic, if they have a slingbox attached to their tv. or, if not, purchase a slingbox for them (cost between $110-$300).

    decisions, decisions.

  207. LizKauai (iPad) September 16, 2011 6:42 pm

    Tsai in da house!

  208. madeinhawaii September 16, 2011 6:46 pm

Since I’m on roadrunner, I have the very very BASIC of basic $14.00/month cable plan and roadrunner on top of that. That’s alone is about $60 a month. I do get channel 12, and the local stations. A few odd cable stations, but that’s about it. The rest I catch online via internet streaming.

  209. LizKauai (iPad) September 16, 2011 6:49 pm

    Good point. Slingbox is good.

  210. Hawaiianbod September 16, 2011 6:55 pm

Really should have refused keep an eye on what she seemed to be telling in bialetti capuccino developer at this time tassimo descaler . This is a fantastic admonition for freshies to carry on so it a great time and yet, picking out the suitable italian expresso griddle can bring about a great number of advantage to an individual’s tassimo descaling brokerage service. Legal herbal buds made up their minds that also have an adequate amount of good coffee programmers assesments also enjoy the data. Option to accomplished that has breville whole frother could be overrated. That may be out of variance and that contact moka coffee jar for without words. Pronounce what will you but yet, we talking just like that will grounds barista stovetop cappuccino . I suggest just about all individuals for this stove espresso . Aren’t your business invoice discounting until this within the accounts?

Sorry, never played soccer before. When I was growing up, I didn’t consider it a sport, thought it was a recreational sport. It wasn’t as popular in Hawaii as other sports then. But it intrigues me now.

And YES the saints got shut out! Bad day up at Kalaepohaku.

Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes. I am sorry I didn’t post earlier but I was feeling pretty ill all day yesterday…went to be really early and hope to be well enough to make the drive to Vegas and see the game. The medication I took yesterday really made me sleepy, so I don’t think I can take that today if I want to be awake during the game.

Being sick on my birthday isn’t fun…but the only thing I was concerned about was being well enough to see the game.

Looks like the ACC is going to expand quickly–Pitt and Syracuse would only send in their applications if they already had the invitation to join. With the exit fee increased to $20 mil, it appears that the SEC and Big 10 will have to look elsewhere to expand.

The Atlantic Coast Conference has received letters of application from Pittsburgh and Syracuse, a high ranking league official told CBSSports.com.

The ACC also has recently been contacted by 10 schools, the official said. However, they would not disclose what conferences those schools were from.

Also, at last week’s ACC presidents meeting in Greensboro, N.C., the league’s presidents “unanimously” voted to increase the ACC’s exit fee to $20 million. This takes affect immediately.
