UH Elite Camp

Next month, the Warriors are running the only high-school-aged football camp in Hawaii that involves NCAA Division I coaches.

A new NCAA rule only allows Division I coaches to be involved in camps hosted by a Division I school and run on the school’s campus or home-game site. The rule is intended to eliminate satellite camps and third-party organizers.

UH announced it will host the two-day, three-session Elite Camp on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11, on the Manoa campus. Hawaii, Washington and USC coaches will serve as instructors. UH also has extended invitations to Oregon and some Division II schools and junior colleges.

The campers get: 1) Exposure to Division I coaches, 2) comprehensive instruction, 3) guidelines on academic goals and NCAA requirements.

UH gets: 1) direct coaching of high school players, 2) a chance to display its coaching, facilities and academic structure, 3) more involvement of camps held on its campus.

Last year, UH coaches were among several staffs — including Mountain West coaches — who were part of a third-party camp held on the UH campus. Other Mountain West schools will not be involved in the UH Elite Camp.

UH also will run four off-campus football clinics for ages kindergarten through eighth grade.

    Howzit Tsaikos!

Great season for the Warrior Volleyball. Too bad it ended in such an ugly way.

ST – any plans for Neighbor Island camps, especially for the the younger kids?

Very strategic participating school invitations to our camp, no mid major schools that we would be recruiting against.

I apologize in advance for going off topic…

Is there anyone who still can use double layer dvd+r discs. I have several 5-packs to give away. I also have a 5-pack of dvd rewritable discs. My final giveaway item is a Panasonic HDD video recorder with an internal hard disk that is just not available anymore. I had it professionally maintained a couple of years ago, but haven’t used it since. It was originally purchased in 2005 to record UH sports for Hawaii units who were serving overseas (e.g. 29th Bde/100th Bn). Rick Blangiardi was instrumental in providing permission to record and distribute the games. It has seen little use since 2007.

I will give first preference (should there be more than one person) to Tsaikos.

Blessings and a wonderful Aloha Friday/weekend to all! // bg
