  5. (Jesse)James January 10, 2014 9:25 am

Looks like Lambert is a grey shirt and Ammon is not coming back? Is Wily still a freshman b/c he got a medical year?

  8. papajoe2 January 10, 2014 9:33 am

    Good morning everybody!
    Top 10.

  9. Boa56 January 10, 2014 9:35 am

    Did Daniel Lewis decommit?

  10. jm2375 January 10, 2014 9:38 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Nice sweep by the Warriors last night. 😀 😀
Gotta cut down on the serving errors, though.

Didyaknow there were NO players from Ohio on the OSU team? Do they even play boy’s vb in Ohio?

    GO WARRIORS!

  11. jm2375 January 10, 2014 9:43 am

Dr. Hinshaw has a new (additional?) job title.

Former Manoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw, who hired Carbone and is now a professor at the medical school, will serve as a senior adviser to Carbone and Taylor.

  17. NorthShoreFan January 10, 2014 10:06 am

Guud Morning Tsaikos…and the beat goes on…..IMUA WARRIORS!

  18. NorthShoreFan January 10, 2014 10:09 am

got me a little red birdie banging into my sliding glass door all day long….you would think it would be lolo by now huh?….on nice one too….maybe too much in love with itself?…lol

  19. Rite80 January 10, 2014 10:18 am

Looks like Chow needs 5 to 7 O-linemen in this years recruiting class.

  20. Duster January 10, 2014 10:35 am

Like many of you, the omission of Ammon Barker jumped right out. Stephen probably used the roster on the UH Football website. I believe that Ammon is #80, and there is no #80 listed. I think he has a retro #80 jersey. The failure to list him cannot be because he redshirted, because Ewaliko is listed. What’s going on?

  21. primo123 January 10, 2014 10:43 am

Any of those tight ends fast?

  22. primo123 January 10, 2014 10:44 am

one more year for scott harding? seems like he’s been here forever….

  23. dannyp January 10, 2014 10:48 am

    9

Daniel Lewis is ours. He’s trying to flip some of his friends now.

  24. haka January 10, 2014 10:48 am

lil’ birdie said Samiuela Lauaki transferred out after the 2014 season as you can see he is not listed in 2015! What’s going on! LOLO!

  25. Jellybean January 10, 2014 11:14 am

Tsai’s made up list and blog goes ballistic.

  26. graham January 10, 2014 11:32 am

We could use a QB recruit

  27. 808WarriorFan January 10, 2014 11:39 am

Forget a 2 year plan…we need a 1 year plan as in win in ’14 or Chow will be gone…

  28. PurpleMaple January 10, 2014 11:43 am

Agree, OL seems thin. Slot looks especially thin in 2015. Hoping the gaps are filled in the next three weeks.

  29. Inyoface January 10, 2014 11:54 am

If we win, they will come.

  30. 808Fringe January 10, 2014 12:01 pm

Forget a 1 year plan, we just need A PLAN!

  31. d1shima January 10, 2014 12:18 pm

    Great Afternoon All!

I have trouble planning the pupu spread for this weekend’s playoff games! Sheesh!

  32. bowwar January 10, 2014 12:34 pm

We still need a QB…Someone who stands above the rest. How about a blue-chip one???

  33. Biggestuhfan January 10, 2014 12:40 pm

I thought Haynes was a sophomore last year?

  34. ai-eee-soos January 10, 2014 12:54 pm

Ivin Jasper didn’t get the job.

“Georgia Southern: Willie Fritz has now been officially introduced as head coach.”

  35. A-House January 10, 2014 12:55 pm

    boolakanaka:

your #127 from prior post – I was jus joshing with you – any news of coaches with Hawaii ties are always a good thing – makes people notice that beside many good players, there are also individuals who posses the ability to coach

hope the “artic blasts” are done for this winter for you guys along the East Coast!

  36. al January 10, 2014 12:55 pm

    33…how tall you, brah?

  37. UHfan808 January 10, 2014 12:57 pm

    Good afternoon, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers! 🙂

  38. A-House January 10, 2014 12:58 pm

for all the “hype” for Justin Vele – it’s unfortunate he has been moved around so much that he cannot be a major contributor for UH

I suppose this happens a lot on the mainland with all the “blue chips” on a team – some play while others sit

  39. UHfan808 January 10, 2014 1:01 pm

Good to not only have a plan but a two year plan to plan for and adjust as necessary!

  40. Buffoman January 10, 2014 1:01 pm

#24 why would someone commit, not sign, then sign only to transfer out after one year? That does not seem to make sense. Can your birdie explain the circumstance.

It would seem a shorter route to simply de-commit and sign elsewhere. Don’t you think?

  41. Andrew January 10, 2014 1:09 pm

Anyone else agree that it’s great the state wants to try to help the athletic department with the matching donations but until they fix the situation with the stadium it’s gonna go back to a deficit very quickly?

  42. Marleysdad January 10, 2014 1:10 pm

#40, it was sarcasm, as it seems ST forgot to list him in the ’15 line up.

  43. iwonderwhytheyhateme January 10, 2014 1:13 pm

How close are we to filling the Offensive Coordinator vacancy?

  44. Buffoman January 10, 2014 1:14 pm

#42 oh, okay. An edgy bunch here.

  45. al January 10, 2014 1:20 pm

24…just an inadvertent omission I believe. lauaki is still in high school.

  46. al January 10, 2014 1:23 pm

    32…more than that. “we(I) need a hero…”!!! …bonnie tyler

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBwS66EBUcY

  47. al January 10, 2014 1:24 pm

I am thinking that hero is going to the punahou kid.

  48. al January 10, 2014 1:25 pm

    to be

  49. Stephen Tsai January 10, 2014 1:39 pm

    Whoops. Ammon Barker is back.
    My bad.

  50. haka January 10, 2014 1:40 pm

re: #24 Actually I was just poking fun at the people getting antsy over Ammon’s omission rather than ST’s omission. 🙂

  51. A-House January 10, 2014 1:47 pm

    al:

that “music” is to heavy for me!!!!

your #47 & 48 – I’m trying really hard to see the “subliminal” message – your “holy grail” is someone who will be going to Punahou

no, no, no – al meant to correct his #47 post saying “that hero is going to be…….. and I will assume, now that is really a bad thing to do because we all know what happens, that your “grail” may be Tuileta – if he is, then we can expect him to be the starting QB as a true frosh – hey, Manzil (sp) does not have a lock on being a true fresh QB – isn’t the one at Florida St also a true frosh?

unfortunately for UH, every time, last year, it was printed that the WR were junk or the DBs were junk or the QB was playing HS ball this time last year, it came to bit them in the u know where – the power of the printed word

guess it also applies to basketball where Cal Poly did not have a good win-loss record and they “bombed” UH last night – just look at who they lost to and it was all on the road – eye tink!!

  52. Stephen Tsai January 10, 2014 1:48 pm

When did Cal Poly become a rival?

  53. ai-eee-soos January 10, 2014 2:06 pm

    … way off-topic …

Alabama hires Lame Kiffin as offensive coordinator.

  54. dannyp January 10, 2014 2:08 pm

This guy just accepted a walk on offer from Boise. I feel like we should go poaching…

  57. jeezy33 January 10, 2014 2:16 pm

I think Wolpin is better than DJ tho..

  58. NorthShoreFan January 10, 2014 2:16 pm

wow…guy looks good but….recruit the entire OLine too!…lol..

  59. Marleysdad January 10, 2014 2:28 pm

Yay, Lauaki is back for ’15!!!

  60. John Fitzgerald Byers January 10, 2014 2:34 pm

giving the uh leadership 10 million dollars right now is rewarding incompetence.

  61. al January 10, 2014 2:34 pm

51…man, bonnie tyler too heavy for you. how old are you?

…eventually the punahou kid will be the one.

i never thought our wr’s were junk.

which qb was in hs? not any of ours? you’re confused or confusing?

  62. dannyp January 10, 2014 2:36 pm

I prefer Wolpin but I like Doctor to. All I know is we gotta bring in someone since we probably aren’t getting Deandre Mann.

  63. al January 10, 2014 2:37 pm

55…is there a doctor in the house.

  64. Rodney January 10, 2014 2:51 pm

    Ewaliko would be an exiting
    Qb if given chance.Could see
him in gun running a little
    Read opition!!!!
Or we need a Juco Qb!!!!!!

  65. Boolakanaka January 10, 2014 2:54 pm

    FYI-Akina officially out at UT.

  66. hawaiianmantis January 10, 2014 3:24 pm

#60 – I believe it’s a 2:1 match but still a long way to go in the legislative process. At least someone in the legislature ( Mark Takai) is trying to assist Ben Jay with an arrow in his quiver to shake contributions from big (and small) private donors.

  67. John Fitzgerald Byers January 10, 2014 3:34 pm

The bigger picture, the real disease at UH isn’t a history of lacking big contributions, its failing to honor donations they receive and funding they receive with competence and due diligence. Even donations earmarked for specific projects, projects as large as the ching complex have proven too be too difficult for uh to proceed with in a timely and cost effective manner. If that is the ching foundation’s last contribution to uh athletics, people shouldn’t hold the ching foundation at fault for that. Now the ching complex ran nearly 3 million dollars over budget and over time inflation has rendered the extra expense useless as downgrades to the original plans needed to happen to the facility.

The ching complex, while a generous and heart-felt donation started by the ching foundation, will be a reminder of how the uh system and state systems handles genrousity.

The system is broken and has been broken and will always be broken until feeble and stubborn old ways of thinking and doing business right changes and evolves with the old boy networks. An influx of cash solves nothing. AD jay can have all the best intentions in the world, but what power will jay hold even if there is a surplus in the ad general account when the man above him dangling the carrot at upper campus is just looking for a reason to slaughter the ability of 400 student-athletes at UH manoa to earn a scholarship via competing in division one athletics?

  68. Stephen Tsai January 10, 2014 3:39 pm

I was kind of stunned that the Ching complex ran $3 million over. I know nothing about construction or engineering but that really seems high for that project.

  69. NorthShoreFan January 10, 2014 3:48 pm

#68…greed knows no boundaries..follow the money

  70. Kevin January 10, 2014 4:10 pm

    RE: Clareence TC Ching Complex

5/30/2008 – Per Hon Adv article – Clarence TC Ching Complex given completion time of two years at a tab of 9.7 million. Its 2014 and it is indeed over 13 million.

“same old song from years ago, I know this place will chew you up and SPIT YOU OUT before you go, and when they drag you, kicking and screaming from the scene you know… THEN ITS TIME TO LEAVE.

Approx 7-9 years ago Coach Bob Coolen was given figures for what it would cost to have new lights and a roof over 3rd and 1st base put up. He was given 1.7 million. Fast forward to when the appropriated funds were finally being looked at seriously by the decision makers, the cost could now only cover new lights.

Wasted monies and opportunity? It sure looks like it to me.

  71. Kevin January 10, 2014 4:14 pm

RE: TC Ching Complex, other issues, etc….

Everything just makes you laugh after a while… then you shake your head and wonder what you are doing still sticking around…

“When I think about how things are, right now it feels like
Yeah it all feels like some kind of circus show
And how this town, it keeps you pinned down
THE SAME OLD SONG FROM YEARS AGO..”

  72. jeezy33 January 10, 2014 4:28 pm

    62. Not sure why we are abandoning RB. Chow knows his offense thrives off a every down RB. And we all know that Iosefa has a injury past. Riggins is a scat bat 3rd down type WR who will catch passes out of the backfield. Not really a 15-20 carries type guy. We definitely could use a JC RB like when we brought in Alex Green or how Colorado St brough in Kapri Bibbs and still recruiting Deandre Mann.

  73. WWF January 10, 2014 4:52 pm

    64

Ewaliko on defense just does not make any sense at all. He is a playmaker.

  74. NorthShoreFan January 10, 2014 5:01 pm

im confused, don’t we need playmakers on offense and defense?

  75. gobows January 10, 2014 5:09 pm

    #64

ewaliko is one of the tougher players on the team, like to see him at qb too, haven’t seen him throw though.

  76. tommui January 10, 2014 5:09 pm

    AL and A-HOUSE:

“Nevada’s biggest casinos lose $1.35B in 2013” story in the SA today!

I thought you were in Las Vegas this year but I guess not!

  77. jjay January 10, 2014 5:09 pm

Once again the taxpayers get screwed by the contractors doing the job , change orders, poor planning , permit problems ,too much time from date money allocated to date drawings actually go to permitting approval, this Ching complex could have been built for less anywhere else on the mainland . Contractors here overcharging the public ,since this is a state project paid for by taxpayers and Ching’s. Too bad, so sad.

  78. Da Punchbowl Kid January 10, 2014 5:11 pm

Happy about the athletes we have – nice two year plan.

Have to agree with other posts about the management and execution. I know less about engineering than Tsai, but a 30% over run? *tsai*

  79. NorthShoreFan January 10, 2014 5:28 pm

Contractors will only do what the client wants done.
Change orders are requested by the client.
Architects and engineers do not always know what the building codes require.
From RFP to contact awards might take enough time so cost estimates can change but it should not be to the level we experience.
Follow the change orders. One change order will trigger new plans, will trigger new code compliance.
Question is why is it necessary for multiple change orders? Why was design phase inadequate? Who requested the change orders? Lastly, who are the architects, engineers and contractors involved?
I would not be surprised if they are all the same people/companies.

  80. Cynde Delaina January 10, 2014 5:35 pm

I’d have to verify with you here. Which is not one thing I usually do! I get pleasure from studying a post that may make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!

  81. BigWave96744@hotmail.com January 10, 2014 6:05 pm

I think over the past 2 springs combined, the only guy to survive the 1 day walkout tryout was RB turned LB Deonson Leatimua.
Stephen, do you know if and/or when this will be held?

  82. Stephen Tsai January 10, 2014 6:42 pm

    BigWave:
I think it will be held after signing day on Feb. 5.
UH has a lot of walk-ons, so most must be invited.

  83. Stephen Tsai January 10, 2014 6:43 pm

    Adonis Phillips is a walk-on, try-out guy, I believe.

  84. Stephen Tsai January 10, 2014 6:44 pm

The problem with the tryouts is a candidate already has to be enrolled in school and not have any academic/transfer issues.
There often is a reason why an available guy wasn’t playing in the fall.

  85. Biggestuhfan January 10, 2014 7:09 pm

#36 Al – what do you mean, how tall am I? Does that have anything to do with my question about Vazquez Haynes?

  86. 3-Prong January 10, 2014 7:45 pm

    Re: Change Orders
Unfortunately, sometime, unforseen field conditions require change orders to resolve the problem. Change orders are almost inevitable inlarger projects like this. The representative for the state needs to watch the contactor and engineers to insure that the change orders are indeed warranted.

  87. Traitmanz January 10, 2014 8:10 pm
