Tuesday in the Desert

• Right tackle Sean Shigematsu  will undergo season-ending knee surgery.

• Levi Legay was the No. 1 right tackle during today’s 2-hour practice at Bishop Gorman High School.

•  And, yes, readers are correct. Dana White, UFC president, is a major donor for Bishop Gorman.

•  Right slotback Miah Ostrowski’s right foot was in a walking boot. He said X-rays did not show any fracture. He hopes to play Saturday.

• If Ostrowski can’t go, Terence Bell or Corey Paclebar will get the start.

• Special teams coordinator Dick Tomey spent significant time today working on the blocking protection for PATs and field-goal attempts.

• There was a thunderstorm early this morning. After that, there was a flash-flood warning. But the weather held up for the practice, with only light sprinkles in the beginning. But Bishop Gorman has an artificial-surface field, so the Warriors experienced no problems. Well,. one problem: DT Kaniela Tuipulotu attempted his version of the rain dance.

• Former UH basketball coach Riley Wallace attended today’s practice.

• Media relations director Derek Inouchi said former Rainbow Wahine basketball coach Jim Bolla was in the hotel last night  where the team is staying. Bolla apparently still has two on-going lawsuits against UH.

Good morning, Tsaikos…..have a great day.

I see the game will be telecast in my area anyway, on the MTN network. Already got it scheduled to record.

Can’t wait to see ALL of Hawaii’s masses converge for the game….should be very interesting.

Great to see, Devon Bess had a very good performance against the Patriots last night; speaking of the Patriots, what a team…and Brady, what a qb!!

  13. Stephen Tsai September 13, 2011 5:15 am

Flash flood warning for the next two hours. It will be a wet practice.

Group rate tickets for Reno game on Nov. 12

I need 15 to get this rate for less than $25; so far I get 10. Just called the Reno ticket office; they still get good seats in the visiting section L (30 yard line–rows 4 thru 29) behind the team–the team will do the haka right in front of us! Email me at: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com

PS: We had 125 in our group at UW; and we get almost 200 for San Jose (let me know also if u need tickets for SJSU for only $25 group rate; compared to $45).

    Good Morning

    Traffic Alert Info

For those of you who will be driving to LV or those who will be renting a car while in LV, the I-15 Strip corridor between the Spaghetti Bowl (interchange near downtown LV) and Tropicana

Ave. is being repaired and paved in both directions.

Lane closures will be in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Thursday for 5 – 6 weeks. All lanes should be reopened for weekend travel, and once the project is done, I-15 will have smoother, quieter lanes – we hope.

Lots of red tail lights in both directions – slow traffic.

Adjacent routes paralleling I-15 also busy – so allow extra time.

  35. Garret September 13, 2011 6:44 am

    jm2375,

The mtn network is not available on Dish Network.

If UH loses its PPV contract and has to go along with the MWC’s TV contract, then all UH games on mtn will not be available to Dish Network customers. That could be 5-6 games if we go by how often some other MWC schools have been on mtn.

  36. Garret September 13, 2011 6:47 am

    jm2375,

The game, which was originally scheduled to be broadcast exclusively on The Mtn., will now be simulcast on CBS College Sports Network (CBS C). /blockquote>

It looks like the UH-UNLV game is also going to be on CBS College Sports…that is a channel that Dish customers get!

  37. Garret September 13, 2011 6:49 am

Interesting stats posted by hilostorm on WSN. I think that UH will have a big halftime lead against UNLV…but didn’t realize how significant that could be.

UH Record Under Coach Mack, vs. FBS opponents:

Trailing after the 1st quarter: 0-13

    Trailing at halftime: 0-16

Trailing after the 3rd quarter: 0-17

Winning or tied after the 1st quarter: 21-6

Winning or tied at halftime: 21-3

Winning or tied after 3rd quarter: 21-2

No worry about Huskies! One snap and clear bruddah! Can’t go into UNLV’s house with a Huskie Hangover . . . that would be very bad. Main goal is still to win the WAC.

  71. Shoko September 13, 2011 8:41 am

Agreed, not a slight to those that major in CJ or BM. Didn’t really think about my comment. But you have to admit, those majors are not exactly challenging majors compared to CS.

  72. 702WarriorFan September 13, 2011 8:46 am

    Kekoa,

T/Storms forecast on/off thru Fri and shud be ok for Sat as of now.

Flash flooding will only be an issue if you are in low lying areas or storm drain are plugged by debris. Seen reports in the past that flooding can be in and around the strip too. Good thing there’s flood control channels and basins or else tsunami in the desert.

Isn’t your War Canoe an amphibian and snorkel equipped?

    d1

Traffic creeping starts from commuting periods and whatevas, so drivers were complaining. Be safe – desert drivers with oil and rain on the streets/hwy not a good combination like black ice.

    Per ESPNU “Experts Show”

Boise St. was handed down sanctions of 3 football scholarships for violations.

Why is it that most of the violations are with women’s tennis yet its the football team that loses the scholarship?

At least that’s what was said on the show.

  81. Da Punchbowl Kid September 13, 2011 9:09 am

Good Morning ballpicker. You working today?

  83. madeinhawaii September 13, 2011 9:11 am

O-line was pretty stout against Washington.. giving up only two sacks. Our D only got two sacks, too.

But we lost Shigematsu towards the end. Hopefully some of the underclassmen will get into the rotation come the next home game. We will need more depth and they will need game experience.

  84. SteveM September 13, 2011 9:12 am

    RE: #54

Ronnie is right, more time to tailgate! Hi Ronnie!

A delay of another hour might make the Tsai-ko Fiesta Henderson tailgate buffet in an air-conditioned Station Casino even more attractive for those on a otherwise fixed schedule.

Tsai-kos interested in carpooling or needing a ride to the Sato-ya dinner/karaoke and/or Fiesta Henderson should post here or in Facebook. Rasu also has around 12 seats on the bus.

    Details at:

  85. Unkanesson September 13, 2011 9:16 am

    Howzit Tsaiko Nation!

I’m still feeling optimistic coming out of the UW game. We spotted them 21 points, then beat them 32-19. Just ran out of time for the comeback.

So against UNLV, I see the Offense continuing to jell. And I think coaches Aranda and Tomey will see to it the Defense and Special Teams come out highly motivated and focused, to make up for a disappointing performance at UW.

    Pomai — UH 59, UNLV 9

    GO WARRIORS!!

(re-posted from yesterday — don’t see my score reflected today in the list.)

I’m confused… Date is wrong, kick-off time is changed, not listed (yet) in DishNetwork listings…

UNLV vs. HAWAII Kickoff Time Changed to 8 p.m. PT

LAS VEGAS — Kickoff time for the Hawaii at UNLV football game on Saturday, Sept. 19 has been moved two hours to 8 p.m. PT.

The game, which was originally scheduled to be broadcast exclusively on The Mtn., will now be simulcast on CBS College Sports Network (CBS C).

We have an excellent working relationship with CBS College Sports Network and were thrilled in this instance to be able to assist and subsequently expand the visibility of UNLV and the Mountain West Conference, said Kim Carver, vice president and general manager of The Mtn.

  91. Couch potato September 13, 2011 9:30 am

  92. madeinhawaii September 13, 2011 9:31 am

Wasn’t it originally 7 pm, too? Wrong date and times… yikes.

  93. Unkanesson September 13, 2011 9:32 am

Re #87 — I’d estimate there are 115 FBS teams whose kickers can’t clear the endzone. That doesn’t concern me as long as the coverage is good.

My main concern is for consistent PAT’s and FG’s from 40 yards and in. We had that last year.

  103. Couch potato September 13, 2011 9:43 am

btw, the Warriors are doing a good job of kickoff coverage, and punt coverage.

ebolla????? I love that. Good one.

  105. Couch potato September 13, 2011 9:44 am

    i don’t think that was Shoko’s intent.

  106. Kevin September 13, 2011 9:53 am

Cannot believe Bolla had his defenders…

One was quoted in defending Bolla’s actions of kicking a player as “a frustrated coach”.

Later this individual went off on essentially saying he suspects the lawsuit will bite UH in the butt.

    Really??? really? really. HA!!! REALLY!??????!?????

  107. al September 13, 2011 9:54 am

couch potato…the spot for kickoffs was moved five yards back to the 30 yard line making it even more of a task to get it in the end zone. this for college football.

interestingly, the nfl moved their spot up five yards to the 35 yard line marker.

high school is still at the 40 yard line.

  108. Kevin September 13, 2011 9:55 am

I remember the day Bolla was fired.

“Brother” Mike was covering Rainbow Wahine basketball then and he came on here and said he ran into a current player and asked her thoughts and she couldn’t stop smiling.

    Good times!!! 😆 😆

  109. Couch potato September 13, 2011 9:58 am

al, kickoffs that i have paid attention to have landed in the 10-15 yard line area. just an observation. like i said the coverages have been good but it would be nice to see a touchback.

  110. ai-eee-soos September 13, 2011 9:58 am

” … • Special teams coordinator Dick Tomey spent significant time today working on the blocking protection for PATs and field-goal attempts. …”

    BIK

  112. Couch potato September 13, 2011 10:01 am

btw, wasn’t the kickoff at the 30 yard line for the last 3-4 years already?

  113. (Jesse) James September 13, 2011 10:06 am

Agree that Hawaii’s kickers need to be able to boot it further on kickoffs. We haven’t had a kicker that could boot it into the endzone in a long time. While coverage has been fairly decent on kickoffs and punts, booting it farther on kickoffs would really help a lot. If Colorado’s kicker and UW’s kicker, as well as ND’s kicker and Michigan’s kicker, to name a few can boot it into the endzone even with the 5 yards further back, we should be able to find a kicker who can do that as well.

According to the UNLV news release:

Saturday’s kickoff is at 7:06 p.m. Pacific time.

It will be shown on The Mtn.

  118. djmitcho September 13, 2011 10:13 am

Good Afternoon/Morning everyone! Losing Shigematsu is a huge blow to a fairly inexperienced line. He was definitely holding his own at the tackle position.

  119. haka September 13, 2011 10:14 am

There should be no doubt, but we need to make sure Shigematsu maintains proper medical documentation.

  120. d1shima September 13, 2011 10:18 am

Gotta work with what ya got. If the current K tries for more distance, it may be at the expense of hangtime.

In the NFL there were several returns to the house. I didn’t see them all but would guess that a few of those happened on mis-hit kicks that were intended to go out of the EZ but ended up fielded without enough time to form the coverage properly.

    re: Kickers

I vaguely remember there being talk on this blog about a kicker who was booming it into the endzone.

I don’t think it was last year or the year before because we weren’t deep in our kickoffs back then either.

Maybe we can consider activating him unless he is a red shirt or something.

  124. SteveM September 13, 2011 10:26 am

  125. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 13, 2011 10:28 am

    #121,

That’s a good point. If the kicker can just line drive it directly OUT of the endzone then fine.

But if its into the endzone and catchable but we lose hang time, things could be a problem.

  126. Pomai September 13, 2011 10:35 am

It’s hard to imagine that the game will not be broadcast here at home.

  127. Pride. September 13, 2011 10:41 am

  128. Pride. September 13, 2011 10:43 am

Too bad we can’t get Dunnachie to just punt the kick from the 30.

  129. kkobi425 September 13, 2011 10:43 am

  131. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 13, 2011 10:46 am

One of the things from the Dick Tomey press conference was Mack’s obvious praise of his special teams coaching ability.

Mack made a huge point about Tomey’s not so common ability to coach kickers.

I don’t really know what the means, but apparently we never really had a coach who was able to groom kickers.

What does this all mean?…Give Tomey some time and I think we have ourselves a good kicking unit.

Lets just do onside kicks from now.

  136. Garret September 13, 2011 10:50 am

    jm2375,

I am confused as to why that article is so off! It seems that must be an old press release and the UH game will just be on the mtn. That means that only people with the mtn channel (or who subscribe to Oceanic’s PPV) will be able to see the game on TV.

The mtn network tries to force people to demand that their cable/satellite company add their network, so they don’t like to let their game be shown on other channels. That was one of BYU’s big complaints, since they couldn’t get replay rights and Comcast tried to force all BYU fans in Utah to subscribe to their service by putting most of BYU’s games on that channel instead of VS or CBS CS.

  137. Garret September 13, 2011 10:51 am

    Nice summary of BSU’s sanctions.

Of the 18 violations outlined against the entire athletic program, only one specifically involves football

Translation: Coaches asked current players if recruits could crash at their place during recruiting trips, current players said “Sure.” Occasionally , a recruit rode in a car with a player without offering gas money. Every now and then, a player would pick up a recruit’s check at IHOP or something. Over five years, the documented “improper benefits” amounted to $4,934. For that, the football Broncos have been sentenced to:

    1. Three years of probation from Sept. 13, 2011 (today) through Sept. 12, 2014.

    2. Reduced scholarship limits (from 85 for the entire roster to 82) for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years, on top of the reductions the school has already self-imposed for 2011-12.

    3. Reduction of three preseason practices for the 2011 and 2012 seasons and three spring practice sessions per year through 2014.

  145. Garret September 13, 2011 10:57 am

    haka,

No worries, I don’t mind you questioning what I posted since it gave me an excuse to look up stuff.

In 2007, UH trailed at the end of the 1st quarter, halftime, and at the end of the 3rd quarter against La Tech.

UH trailed at the end of the 3rd quarter against SJSU.

UH trailed at the end of the 3rd quarter against Nevada.

UH trailed at the end of the 1st quarter, halftime, and at the end of the 3rd quarter against Washington.

So, you were not wrong to point out that UH has come back to win in quite a number of games recently. Unfortunately, none of those wins came in 2008, 2009, 2010, or this year.

    But lets not split hairs.

How does our “Terrible Third” look this year? Gotta start strong, start strong again (3rd) and finish stronger.

Maybe instead of holding up the 4 fingers (for 4th quarter)…Warriors should hold up 1 finger at the UNLV game…As to what finger they want to hold up I leave it up to them..heheheheh

Silva was an undrafted free agent who went to training camp with the Baltimore Ravens. If the Broncos do sign Silva _ and the slew of injuries they suffered Monday during their 23-20 loss to the Raiders may force an adjustment to their roster plans _ it would likely be for their practice squad.”

  195. Da Punchbowl Kid September 13, 2011 12:37 pm

    196 –

I spoke with their revice rep on da phone, and dats what she said. She wasn’t even sure if the game was going to be on the air at first and had to confirm. She also said to check on channel 1 later in the week to find out what channel will be showing it. Dats it, straight from da horses mouth.

  196. Da Punchbowl Kid September 13, 2011 12:38 pm

UH 44-20. Offense finally gets rolling in the deep.

I wanted TBell to start at SB, but not for Miah. Wonder if Gib is a little worried about Miahs injury.

Was Richard considered for WAC POY?

Has anyone asked coach Shaw about all the bad snaps? Sila is not the right type to be center on that line. He plays with tunnel vision but his head needs to be on a swivel. Defenders come from all angles. Give Sapolu a shot. Doesn’t take alot to be a good center on that line… Derek Faavi was real good at 6′ & 260.

  200. Da Punchbowl Kid September 13, 2011 12:40 pm

    196 –

The rep didn’t say anything about the MWC. Only that the game would be shown.

  201. Couch potato September 13, 2011 12:40 pm

    oceanic has revice reps? 😆

  202. Wes'side Warrior September 13, 2011 12:40 pm

Wow, Boise got hit pretty hard for $4,934 worth (from $2.34 – $417.55) of paid-back infractions from ’05-’09.

Aside from USC, the rest of the recent big school penalties (read, everything east of the Rockies) don’t even seem remotely close.

  203. Wade September 13, 2011 12:41 pm

Was Richard considered for WAC defensive player of the week (not POY)?

  204. papajoe2 September 13, 2011 12:42 pm

The Broncos was one of the teams that seriously wanted to sign Mana to a free agent contract before the season. The Ravens was the other, but gave him a ultimatum. He signed with the Ravens and was at first assigned to the practice squad but given his outright release a couple of days later.

I think the saying should be: “The bigger the [non-AQ] success, the stronger the microscope”.The extent and amount of the Boise violations are piddling compared to what schools in major conferences have both done and in many instances, gotten away with. There has never been what I would call equity or justice in what the NCAA does or unjustifiably “justifies”. There needs to be an Internal Affairs division for the NCAA to police itself. What I’ve always said would stop the major offenders cold would be that they would have to give back the Bowl money immediately and levy the other sanctions in addition. Unfortunately the NCAA in its infinite wisdom always let offending schools keep the millions and gave them a slap on the wrist.

  208. Couch potato September 13, 2011 12:46 pm

i also thought hewitt should have been pow for vb. or kanani.

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?

  217. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 13, 2011 1:30 pm

So the NCAA mandates that the day after a game the players get a day off???

But now watching a ESPN special on Tulsa and their coach just said he holds practice on Sunday. In fact he doesn’t just mention it, he is now going into why he feels its necessary.

Did Tulsa just admit to a practice violation?

  218. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 13, 2011 1:40 pm

  225. Darren September 13, 2011 1:57 pm

#219 IWWTHM – I thought that was the type of programming we’d get with new channel 1012. Instead I find myself watching volleyball games that happened one week ago…thinking that it’s live. You think they’d put “replay” with the actual event date in the info or something like that.

  226. haka September 13, 2011 2:13 pm

I checked out Oceanics new UH station. I forget the station number (I think it is the next one up from 1012), but it has highlights of the basketball asia trip, interviews, features and football game highlights. It’s great to be able to play game highlights like a youtube clip. Torres’ interception is great.

  227. Couch potato September 13, 2011 2:32 pm

my understanding is that players be given one day off per week from practice except when they are in a tournament or post season play. nothing about the day after a game.

  228. Unkanesson September 13, 2011 2:38 pm

Went looking for a YouTube clip of last week’s interception, but no more. However, I did find one from last YEAR that was fun to watch. Hoping for deja vu this coming Saturday!

  229. Kevin September 13, 2011 2:43 pm

I was one that was all for the transition from K-5 to Oceanic due LARGELY to their quality of coverage with high school sports compared to the shoddy coverage quality of K-5.

Willing to eat my words come the spring IF need be.

For now I enjoy the saturation of UH coverage especially with the pre and post game segments with Wahine volleyball.

So FOR NOW, OcSports is doing ok. We’ll see if I feel the same way in a few weeks/months.

  230. haka September 13, 2011 2:47 pm

Never imagined I’d say something like this, but I like Rosalyn Dung. 🙂

  231. madeinhawaii September 13, 2011 2:55 pm

    Haka.

Had me make a double take.. at first I thought you typed “Rollin’ in” and not “Rosalyn”.

  232. Guy in the office September 13, 2011 2:57 pm

DPK, Bryson: Regarding UH-UNLV TV coverage on Saturday. I just spoke to an Oceanic customer care rep, and while he may be a little clueless on the matter, this is what he told me upon checking into it: The game will be shown on 11/12/11 at 11:59 p.m. (yes, a 2-month delay) on Channel 255 for the discounted rate (insert sarcasm) of $55. How you figgah? I questioned his information, and he stood by it. Two-month delay, and it’ll still cost you $55. Stephen, if you’re reading this, can you have Kyle check on it?

  233. madeinhawaii September 13, 2011 2:57 pm

    BTW who’s that? I know of a Rosalyn Dang…

  234. LizKauai September 13, 2011 2:57 pm

Unkanesson, I have the INT on my dvr. Will post later tonight if I am awake enough.

  235. haka September 13, 2011 3:01 pm

MIH, is it Dang? I thought I heard Howard say Dung, but I could be wrong…and it wouldn’t be the first time today. Doh!

  236. haka September 13, 2011 3:05 pm

Yup just searched. Rosalyn Dang played volleyball for St. John’s. I think I will just slink my way to the exit…stage left. Anyway, she looks good and knows what she is taliking about!

  237. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 13, 2011 3:08 pm

My guess is that they will keep Miah out. Don’t think its worth furthering his ailments just to start him for the sake of starting him.

After all, I think we can handle a win even if he is on he side for now. He probably could rest for the UC Davis game too. Probably should.

Although its unavoidable at times, I hate having to hear so and so is playing at 85% or whatever.

Rather have him 100% for in-conference and especially BYU.

  238. Laura September 13, 2011 3:09 pm

Haka, if I am not mistaken, Howie also mentioned that she was an assistant coach somewhere on the mainland also.

Show up for the 7 p.m. match and stay for the filming afterwards. Show your pride and wear your green “H” logo shirt!”

    per Hawaii Athletics email

  254. Bryson September 13, 2011 4:04 pm

I spoke to someone in TWC and there response was it will be shown for sure just not sure on what channel yet…best of all if you have te road package it will be included no extra charge…At least that’s what I was told..

  255. Kevin September 13, 2011 4:12 pm

Will be interesting to see who UH can get to be the players during that Five-O filming.

Current student-athletes aren’t supposedly permitted to participate in such a thing. Not sure how many alumnae that can pass as college students are still on Oahu. Kanoe Kamana’o is still here I think, Jayme Lee, Sarah Mason???, Tara Hittle is back on the mainland I think, not sure if Aneli Cubi-Otineru and/or Dani Mafua are on island or off competiting internationally yet at this time of the year, probably Liz Ka’aihue would be available. Hmmm… wonder who else?

Hope the students really come out. Been sitting at the top of the student section for the past few matches and me and my friends noticed much more of them coming out. Would be best that the Five-O film crew and director get them in shots or have them seated along the sides during the filming.

Talked to Oceanic – again – they said they will show the game on Saturday, channel and time will be announced on channel 1 beginning Thursday. It is what ever it is, I guess. 😆

Maybe we could take bets as to which station and what time the game will be aired and when exactly Oceanic TWC can tell us. 😆

  265. Unkanesson September 13, 2011 5:13 pm

Question, is the kicker on kickoffs instructed to kick it short, or he can’t kick it into the end zone? Maybe Dunnachie should be given a try at kickoffs, he’s got a strong leg and probably no problem to kick it out of the end zone. IMO. Imua Na Koa!!!!

Went to a fundraiser tonight for our local library and an older couple sat at our table. After talking for a little while, we realized that we had something in common…we both followed UH football! The dad followed UH football ever since his son (I think he said Chris Todd, but I could be mistaken) played for UH. His son was a LB and played at Torrey Pines HS (the school a few blocks from my house) before UH.

It was interesting to hear all the good feelings that he still has for UH and the coaches that recruited and coached his son. He had some really nice things to say about Rich Ellerson and Bob Wagner. He still follows UH football and said that he was impressed with how fast Moniz looked against Colorado.

  271. Guy in the office September 13, 2011 5:42 pm

DPK: Did you get a sense that it will be part of the PPV package at no extra charge, and if you don’t have the package it’ll cost you $50-$60 or whatever the per-game rate is? I doubt it’ll be on OC12 for free. I’m hoping the SA gets on this, but with Stephen and Ferd out of town … well, can’t help I guess. Thanks for your follow up.

  272. d1shima September 13, 2011 5:46 pm

The information I had when signing up for PPV Road Package for season tix holders was that the UNLV game, if available, would be added on to the PPV package at no additional cost.

  273. Stretch September 13, 2011 5:49 pm

The MW is just showing UH how much control they have over the tv deal so UH will have to put the PPV money in the pot next year.

Pomai!, sorry I don’t post unless it is football season but I am sure of this,

    UH 48 – UNLV 20

Old Diver! How are you doing my friend?

  285. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 13, 2011 7:05 pm

No one mentioned this so were we the only ones to go through the deletion of yesterday’s blog and all the posts after 9 am or thereabouts? When I came back around 4:30 pm, there was nothing on the Star-Advertiser website from yesterday – and there still isn’t.

What time is the game this Saturday and on what channel here on O`ahu. Are there any away-gates being held and, if so, where?

Will the game be aired on ESPN1420? What happens with the Wahine volleyball match?

  286. jm2375 September 13, 2011 7:18 pm

WDoc – from what Scott Robbs said this morning, if you are in the SSC, the fb game will be carried on the in-house SSC station (106.5FM) until the Wahine game starts.

  287. bigislandkurt September 13, 2011 8:05 pm

The more po ho part about Shigematsu is that his dad played for UNLV. I’m sure this was a game they had circled on the calendar.

W-Doc- I can see yesterday’s blog just fine. Perhaps refresh your link?

  289. Laura September 13, 2011 8:20 pm

LizKauai, is the date, September 11, or 12, on yesterday’s blog?

  290. Laura September 13, 2011 8:28 pm

Could it be only the people on Oahu, that cannot see yesterday’s blog entries.

I met Peter Kim in Tuscaloosa when UH played there in 2006. He’s a rock star in Alabama – people still ask for his autograph. He moved to Orange County sometime ago, but is here periodically because of his business interests, including Liliha Bakery.

#285 – LizK – Mahalo for the Torres video! Would love to see him get another one this week, though it doesn’t seem likely that I’ll *see* it without another assist from you or another fan with dvr and a YouTube account. I’ll be tuned in to 1420 as usual.

#299 – Al – I think Bright is on the verge of a huge game too.

If Miah can’t go, I hope Paclabar can get some action – he impressed us at the Kea’au scrimmage. But if the coaches put Bell ahead of him, then I’d say we’ve got some good, if relatively anonymous, depth at the slot positions.

  303. Slugger September 13, 2011 10:03 pm

I’ve seen more of Paclebar at practice and I think he’ll do well. Just don’t remember how T. Bell did in practice.

  304. Old Diver September 13, 2011 10:41 pm

KBayJohn, Hope all is well. Like you is feel the Warriors will be putting it all together this weekend.

  305. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 13, 2011 11:31 pm

Personally I think we good to go with whomever WR we have as backups.

The next 2 games should be *manageable*..yeah…thats the word….yea good job iwwthm.

Anyway, it will be a very good opportunity for Paclebro and the other future Warrior starters to get real “non-rubbish” game time reps.

Hawaii -19.5/-20 as of right now. 3 TDs. I am pretty sure we cover.

  306. al September 14, 2011 12:19 am

Unkanesson…i hope he gets his toe in order. he should get some unconventional treatments for that turf toe.

hopefully after the unlv and ucd games he will be ready to rock n roll.

if miah is hurt, i’d like to see allen sampson get a shot, too.

i am also concerned that the new wr/sb are not up to snuff just yet although i hear that edu amadi is also hobbling along and may just redshirt afterall.

still waiting to see chris gant get on the field. i hear that doe is still learning the nuances of the rns.

trevor davis is one who has progressed rapidly.

  307. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 14, 2011 12:37 am

Al: Mahalo for the link to yesterday’s blog – first time that has ever happened.

A quick reminder – in addition to the Wahine softball game on Saturday, October 29, the Wahine basketball season kicks off at 7 pm playing HPU. Both the football and the volleyball teams are on the road that weekend.

What does MTN stand for? We only have basic cable + Internet so we’ll need to locate a bar close to The Stan so we can watch the gane before the Wahine start beating up on Pepperdine.

  308. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 14, 2011 12:46 am

    MTN=Mountain.

Which is probably someones shorthand for the Mountain West Sports Network.

    Its also called TheMtn

It is the network that shows all Mountain West Conference sports programming.

I intended to put you this little word to say thanks once again on your exceptional methods you have provided on this website. It is tremendously open-handed of people like you to provide unhampered what exactly a lot of folks would have supplied as an e-book to help make some money for their own end, certainly seeing that you might well have done it if you ever considered necessary. These advice likewise served to be the great way to understand that other people online have a similar interest like mine to find out great deal more with reference to this condition. I believe there are several more enjoyable opportunities up front for people who read your site.

Oceanic should get their $hit together, and let the fans in Hawaii know for sure how to see the game.

Have the Tsaikos going to the UNLV game decided on a unifying color scheme to represent UH and the Tsaikos? I think a “white-out” would be good, especially if we have our dark Tsaiko signs. I have not read any postings about this subject.

Go Warriors! Black and blue the red Rebels!

  314. Pomai September 14, 2011 3:51 am

Midnight I read in the SA that coach Mac wants everyone to wear green.

  315. Midnight September 14, 2011 4:23 am

OK. Thanks for your extreme efforts on that game score thing. I know it must take a lot of work to update it and such.

Seems to me that white would have been a better contrasting color, especially if the fans bring the ti leaves, like we used to do. But he’s the coach, so we will try to accommodate him in support.

Go Warriors! Black and blue dem red Rebels!
