Think you can be a Warrior?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We’ve heard all of your stories.
But if you really want to show you can be a Warrior, call the UH football office (956-6508) and register for next Thursday’s walk-on tryouts.
You’ll be tested in the 40, and measured. Hey, we’ll even list your “in-cleats” height.
Tryouts begin at 4 p.m.
* * *
The Warriors’ first team meeting is set for tomorrow.
Coach Mack will go over the offseason schedule.
Offseason training begins Monday.
* * *
Kainoa LaCount will have to wait until the summer to join the UH football team, according to people in the know.
* * *
Besides watching the battle between UH and third-ranked Pepperdine, another reason to attend tonight’s volleyball match is to hear Chris Rawson, the best heckler in years. He doesn’t yell insults. Instead, in a booming — and irritating — voice he tries to have a “conversation” with an opposing player who is preparing to serve. It’s sort of like having an editor stand behind you while you’re trying to write. Oh, never mind …
The USC and Penn State players actually praised his innovative passive/annoyance technique.
Rawson must be effective. After the first match, the NFA — no-fun administrator — complained to an arena staffer, and Rawson was told he could only sit in his ticketed seat. The solution? For the next night’s match, he got two tickets — one for each end line.

Happy birthday to the lovely Faye Wai (pictured below, with Adam Leonard at the Na Koa dinner).

Good morning all!
Hey that’s 4 times ST being #1, do I get some kind of reward 🙂
ST,
What about age ladat????
Cheeee, how’s about six-inch cleats?
before I forget……TOP TEN!!!
#’s 6-9..
Congrats to AZ and me!!!
ST, do you know which grayshirts are enrolled already and is Lacount in school yet?
Top Twenny!
Not sure about LaCount yet.
I know Laurel and Tachibana are in school.
I believe Noa and Vasconcellos won’t be on the team until at least the summer.
And Waylon Lolotai is enrolled and take part in spring ball.
Good morning everyone!
Tryouts? I have good playing weight but not enough height…and I don’t know if I can run the whole 40 yards… 🙁
ST, what do you know about that 5 JUCO player limit? Zack is wavering because we couldn’t take him now, even though he was ready. Where did that limit come from?
Top Twenny! 🙂
A-ha! I’m gonna try out. Who wouldn’t want a 5’2″, something-something pound girl trying to play some football.
Aloha Tsai-ko’s
Windy on the NorthShore but not too bad. I hope this thing passes without too much pilikea.
Anyhoo, great article about Tadd Fujikawa in the HA. Good luck to him and all the Hawaii golfers.
This morn on the Rob and Russ program, Miano threw a name out as a possible 2 or 1st team guy, who is going to be attending the Warrior workout. Any more info on this possible future Warrior?
Heard Coach Miano on Rob and kinda Russ/kinda Kanoa Show say that you actually gotta be enrolled as a F/Time student before try-outs.
I guess that whittles down the number of eligible Tsaikos…
Kelli,
You are more than a full-time student! Would you even have time to spend waiting in line at try-outs?
Good morning Tsai-kos!
Top 20!
Chris Rawson was a lot of fun at the USC game. He even got the crowd going with “We Will Rock You”. We need lots more people like that. My kid and her friends were trying to help, too. 😆
I fully expect to be trying out this afternoon at 4 o’clock. Yes indeedy. As challenging as it might be, I’ll be trying out a new pillow during my afternoon nap between 3:00 to 4:30 PM. 😆
BTW, measureables about 6-3, 240, looking at pass rush/lb
Thanks Chris Rawson. I hope to see you live and in person soon.
ST on rivals.com it doesnt have lilio Nobriga, wade kelilikipi or kevin williams as commits anymore. What is the deal with them or is rivals just messed up.
I’d like to see all of our rivals get messed up…
HI DPK! So you got a new pillow? Is it Transformer print or Hello Kitty print?
No lie DPK, you just miss being with your tree.
Stephen Tsai – are spectators allowed to watch try outs?
Good morning Tsaikos….hope all is well…
Kelli trying out??? Wow, that would be awesome…
Geez, I can’t run the 40 anymore….
HI homey!
HI (Jesse) James! I thought you’re under 40? What are you doing at the gym?
I wonder if the team needs a stats boy?? Jason – go for it!!
Stretch,
I thought the team already had one…he’s a blog host!
hmmmmm…. I wonder who this could be??
d1島: That’s a good point. I better not. I already have to read a whole book by Wednesday. *cries*
Less than two and-a-half hours left to watch your analog TV!
Kelli??? 98 lb. Kelli? the tackling dummy is heavier than her. people might think she is the first recruit from japan.
(J)J – I can run the 40, I mean jog the 40, slow jog, very slow jog, close to walking speed. What time should we show up for the Legislature opening ceremonies?
Hello there jojo.
who still watches analog? raise your hand.
jojo,
Not too sure about the spectatin’ opportunity of the try-outs…
IIRC they’re held inside the weight room…up to you but I imagine things get a little….uhhh….earthy in there. 🙄
I’d like to see the off season training schedule and what type of training is done.
Re: Walk-On Tryouts
I hope there is another Nate Nasca or two who come out next Thursday
I’m kinda certain that if you are spectating then you are watching.
Sorry, one more comment
Does this NFA always have someone do their dirty work??
homey-did you get a chance to watch da bj special last nite. what did ya think of him taking a 5 day “vacation” break. i know that he knows his body better than any of us, including dana white but…
Stretch – would you know how many made the team that went to last season’s tryout?
40s:
I ran the 40, but it was part of the 50 yard dash.
No time for the 40, but did a 6-flat in bare feet at Farrington HS track and with rubber shoes on grass next to Klum gym.
Now, I would be happy with a 20 seconds for the 50!
jojo-
*titter titter* * tee hee* Why, Hello Kitty of course! *tee hee*!
homey – I am not sure. The only one I remember is Nasca. Maybe ST can confirm??
owen-16 – didn’t watch it yet but did dvr it. will watch it later.
Hey Stretch-
Better let your buddy, “Gloves Guy” know that he needs to be at the try outs today! 😆
homey,
Do I have to keep my hand up the entire two hours? Or can I just put up a digit?
(Jesse) James: Would it really be awesome? I might do more damage than help.
homey ℞: I’d like to have the honor of being the first recruit from Japan, if I was actually from there. Haha!
Mmmmm…. a CC…Capitol Call! 😉
DPK is getting dirty again…
Jojo…I am under 40, well under 40, I just can’t run the 40 anymore…bad knees….LOL
Homey…probably 1230 or so. Session starts at 12…a bunch of pomp and circumstance….than offices open their doors and serve food….
Off-season training?
Geezes almighty…last year they said the same and the entire OL reported to summer camp in terrible shape. Most struggled to run 40 yard sprints. You know the rest–59 sacks, penalties galore and the discipline of an Armenian Army unit.
Will be interesting to see what JUCO recruits were attrited–usually takes our admissions 2 years to Q these guyz. Not sure if we are recruiting dummies or if UH admissions is still giving priority to foreign students over minority football players from the inner cities and polynesia.
God Bless upper campus civil service slugs–they truly are handicapped.
okay, that’s one analog…hand down.
A-House – when did you run the 50, last year?
Kelli…your awesomness would be blinding….therefore you’d help the team tremendously….LOL
Guys… Me, SteveM, James & Dpk will run the 40 as a relay team! We prefer *machine* time please. Gotta get that hundreths of a nano second speed recorded.
Then…it’s straight to the sports therapy room, and a big finish with a visit to the training table for carbo loading.
(J)J – barring any unforeseen circumstances I will be there on the 21st! I’ll give you a call when I’m there and you can show me the hideout places.
warriorfanny – this is the time for not only the o-line but the rest of the team to step it up. if anything, gotta outwork boise in the offseason.
I can run a sub 4-minute 40!
d1 – I’ve been to the gym before and have worked out next to really smelly things and can bench press my weight!
The problems with qualifying have been in the JC transcripts which are (a) notoriously bad– in a few cases they are almost illegible, and (b) notoriously slow to come out. JC administrators are also notoriously slow to respond questions. The athletes are told to get on their schools, but even that hasn’t made much of a difference. Once the transcripts are in, the process at our end can start and they have speeded that up– not instantaneous, but they check everything and make sure the courses match our requirements and so on, so it still takes time.
What’s the wrap on Waylon Lolotai? What can we expect from him
jojo…you’re not the only one….LOL
jojo – I can bench press your weight too! I may need a spotter though.
Rich Miano also said on AM1500 this morning that a 6’4″, 240 pound DE prospect is enrolled at UH-Manoa. Is that talented that he can challenge for a starting position in 2009. He is an invited walkon candidate. Even gave his name but I can’t remember.
Must be someone with outstanding credentials for Miano to say that he can challenge for a starting position.
homey:
you are 2 kind – ran it in 1962.
…but then again if jojo is 200 something pounds then she is one strong woman!
ST – you may have mentioned it but how much bigger did Lolotai get after his 2 year mission?

Kekoa,
I could actually run the 40 if you had a fully equipped emergency medical trauma surgical team waiting at the finish line. 😆
Not to mention, I’d only run it if the fate of the entire world depended on it. 😆
A-House – c’mon, we all know you are modest and can still post sub 7 second times in the 50! you are like Lebron James, a freak of nature! 1962!!! no wonder you called them rubber shoes. 😆
Willie,
“Say Hey!” nah nah 😉
IIRC Miano was talking about that guy as a solid talent but then started to speak about him as someone who could help out on special teams right away….I think he even mentioned losing guys like Guyton Galdeira who must be replaced. (I cannot recall his name either…hope he not lurking!)
Maybe someone else can recall what they heard….
You sure you guys listened to the same thing?
homey…you are right about A-House…da guy can bench like 300 #s…more than i can…he’s awesome ….
homey,
I must have had the analog signal 😉
btw,
It’s pretty rough typing with one hand raised….
(J)J – yep, he is awesome! he can probably bench jojo at least 2 reps! jojo is getting heavier and heavier as the post counts go up.
d1 – you dummy, put the keyboard up with the other hand! 🙄
d1…what is analog?? Was that around when i was born??? or am I too young to remember???
h0mwt,
OK@ but nlw I can[t see tye keys!
(J)J,
Analog. He sat behind you in HS!
Yeah, maybe they should just give up all together. 🙄
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
Having Chris Rawson at the MVB games is great. Esp. since the pep band and the cheerleaders are not in attendance. He’s a one-man cheer squad.
discipline of an Armenian Army unit….Classic
“Guys… Me, SteveM, James & Dpk will run the 40 as a relay team! We prefer *machine* time please. Gotta get that hundreths of a nano second speed recorded….kekoa”
i’ll bet lunch that i could beat your relay team. er, as long as you guys don’t cheat.
***Off Topic***
Was former Rainbow Michael Carter a lefty or righty?
righty
i hope workout and training is not like the warrior’s practice where they think they are a pro team. gotto get back to the basics, attitude should have plenty machismo, and the spirit should be like the last samurai.
and the receiver coach should make it mandatory that the recievers work on the JUG machine each day on their own and catch a minimum number, drops no count. good starting number would be 50 a day.
Receiver Coach?
for the o line, receivers, and d backs, 1 hour a week practicing with the uh dancers to make sure their leg work is coordinated and strong. and if get ballet group, better yet.
Dpk – coach willy chai at KSB chased you with his lickin stick to make sure you ran as fast as you could!
d1, if have to make the hands stronger by thrusting or poking the hand into rice containers, so be it. this past season, that’s what they had, no hand strength.
Whitey—#90
You forgot a 2 in front of 50. Also teach them how to read blitzes.
the Oline guys need to start running…start now…maybe half mile to one mile a day….and build on that…heck the whole team should do it….
Hey! I found this classic Stephen Bishop vid.
Excellent motivator for our Tsai-ko 40 yard relay team.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ3OBk344Z0&feature=related
I MUA my braddahz!
Thanks Al!
whitey,
Brown rice, eh! 😉
A-Joe – that guy sings like me! 😆
off season workouts….it is a matter of choice.
these players are making a choice. a choice of wanting it more or not.
as our recruiting develops, the mere fact that the competition amongst teammates for playing time is developed by the reality that you know that someone is just waiting to take your place, therefore, you need to be in top form.
perhaps, some of the returning players should take a trek to boise, idaho and just see how hard they work to perfect their craft.
…nuff said
j(j) excellent idea and the weather is in their favor now as it is cool rather than hot like the summer. no need run at the beginning, but at least make an attempt to jog half mile. to break the monotony of half mile jogging, they can run/jog 220 yds, then walk 220 yds, run/jog 220, and walk 220. the walk part of the 220 can be 3 times slower than the run part and eventually, they can work their way to going a mile.
No waste the rice! use sand and cinder rocks.
ajoe….i think that was homey lipsyncing.
bring back the 220’s.
al, that’s just the point, it should not be by choice, but mandatory to get their mindset into producing players. this should be a culling period or evaluation to see if you deserve to have your fb scholie renewed. can always give it to another who is more deserving. no need for “primo donkeys”.

#105- 100% agreement here!
the boise state football program has become a tradition. what with three head coaches in such a short period of time amidst all of their success in the past decade.
it has become a tradition.
a tradition of pride, hard work, and mental toughness.
year after year many schools have out recruited them on paper. but, just look at the results. i shudder to think if they had the talent of usc, nd, alabama, and the like.
tradition.
Al – For a serious challenge between two Tsaikos evenly matched, I’d be willingly to spring for a Surf & Turf dinner to the winner!
But we’re all *winners* here, Kekoa… 😆
can we sustain a tradition.
it takes everyone involved with the football program. coaches, administrators, student/athletes, maintenance workers, custodians, and fans to support the tradition 100%.
if you are a part of this tradition, live it, work it, breathe it, and be it. this cannot be a part time attitude.
dpk…..are you ready???
how you going have tradition when they don’t even know what the word or work ethics is?? training should be mandatory and if you have problems with that, see the coach.
Kekoa – for laughter sake, what would be the challenge? Something like jm#### and chawan in the octagon? UHfan808 vs Bulla in a PBS cookoff? koakane vs MLiz in text messaging speed? A-Sports vs (J)J in dart penetration?
al – not only tradition but a strive for excellence, on and off the field.
Do the football scholarships cover summer school also?? The players can take a class or two that will lessen the class load during the season and will have housing available to them instead of them paying to live off campus.
jm### – got to support the alumni
Draw – still need to taste Bulla’s
None of the above, I think UHFan808 is the winner
(J)J – I heard he can penetrate his dart pretty good.
I would think full ride scholarships cover the cost of summer school. I don’t really know since I never had a scholarship.
al-
See #71. 😉
anyone know who that preferred walkon Miano mentioned this morning?
homey….i assume that excellence is all part of the tradition that is necessary to achieve the legacy. to arrive at tradition you need to have pride, hard work, and mental toughness which to me encompasses everything done to reach the maximum output.
….and nobody plans to fail
…they just fail to plan.
Stretch:
You’re right about summer school being a big advantage for our guys. But I don’t think the regular football scholarship covers summer school. IIRC additional summer scholarships were the focus of Ben Yee’s last big Na Koa fundraiser.
Doesn’t Nā Koa raise money for summer school scholarships or something like that? I thought I read that before. Then again, reading this textbook is putting me to sleep, so IDK what I’m talking about …
Stretch – I heard rumors that (J)J’s darts are injected with sildenafil.
these are high school or just finished recruits who want to be warriors. same scenerio, when you want to be a marine. you have a choice of how to become a marine? hell no, you have mandatory training before you can even be called a marine. same thing should apply for the warriors, you can’t be a warrior until you fulfill your mandatory obligations. so what if we dress only 30 warriors for the game, the fans know that they are warriors and will perform like warriors. imagine that you want to be a warrior leader on the same level as a navy seal or army delta team, then you got to do extra to earn that respect. sometimes, we make too many excuses for them and instead of warriors, we have nothing.
I think Na koa helps with summer tuition but the player is on his own as far as room and board. summer school tuition is high per credit
excellent example of a warrior, RUDY!!!
al – my thinking is that sometimes a person may take tradition for granted. sure they adhere to the established routines but may forget about the pride and hard work you mentioned that got them there in the first place. that’s where I threw in excellence as a reminder to excel in everything you do, be the best you can be, be superior to those on the other side of the line of scrimmage. reminders of tradition and excellence should be put up all over lower campus, in the gyms, locker rooms, weightroom, offices, arena, stadium, field…
Now I’m hungry.
whitey – I have a cousin named Rudy, same one?
This was, of course, FOR AMUSEMENT ONLY
homey, maybe?????? he about the same size as you, but he neva give up through all the shit they threw at him and showed that he had the “intestinal fortitude” to be a player. long time i neva see that word.
whitey,
Air Force is no longer part of US Army. But I like the thinking….can save $ on training table!
😯
I kinda hungry, too!
homey & whitey
we are on the same page regarding excellence.
one of the greatest success stories is disneyland, to this day employees go through the “pursuit of excellence” training.
i had the opportunity to take the couse years ago and would recommend this to all.
d1
lucky for you thelma’s is just a short ride away.
JMHO but good to hear that Coach Mack has decided to continue practice of conducting an open walk-on tryout prior to Spring Practice instead of just limit to selected “invited” walk-ons.
While the walk-on yield from these tryouts hasn’t been high in numbers, they still have yielded some quality Warrior players…like RB Daniel Libre, DB Richard Torres, DB Guyton Galdeira, DL Reynolds Fruen…to name a few.
BTW, if you can’t take advantage of this as a student at UH, then you’re crazy. From today’s Ka Leo:
University of Hawaii students wearing their Mānoa Maniacs T-shirt will receive a free VIP USA Koa Ānuenue theme pack at the men’s volleyball matches on Thursday and Friday against No. 3 Pepperdine, the women’s basketball game against Nevada on Saturday and the men’s basketball game against San Jose State on Saturday.
The VIP USA Koa Ānuenue theme packs contain over $4,000 in savings from various merchants throughout Hawaii. The books retail for $25 each. One coupon book per student.
IDK what coupons that book has, but considering all of those games are free except the men’s basketball game, that seems like a no-brainer to me.
and no forget the most famous walkon of them all; rich “rudy” miano.
jboy…when’s the next game?
Oh schnap… I wonder if those coupons are for merchants that are also coporate sponsors of UH Athletics?
Mwhahahahahahaaha!!!
Al: Open your eyes, it says in the announcement. 🙂
okay then. i was getting lazy fo read.
will they still accept my old student id card?
Wow, an invited “walk-on” who is good enough to start with special teams and maybe good enough to be 2nd or ist team!
Where did this guy come from? ST, do you have a name and stats other than 6’4″ and 240#s? School? Position(s) played? Local or mainland? Fresh or Soph? How did such a good player NOT be noticed before?
ist = 1st
time for me go take nap!
“702”,
I did some research on the new running shoes from Under Armour and they are coming out with about SIX different types from shoes for indoor, outdoor, trail running, and even two different pairs for people that land “evenly” on the soles of their feet and for those people that tend to run with their feet “rolling” inward.
They look nice, as usual, but come the end of month when Sports Authority has them in I will try them out.
ahouse,
i have heard that rich “rudy” miano has a penchant for exaggeration.
nap sounds good.
too much lunch today (again).
150?
al – make use of that exercise machine.
whitey – wrong Rudy, form Lanai and lived on Maui, last name Galinato.
Kazz – I heard UA is coming out with sleepwear.
What do you think of Jesse Sapolu as a candidate for our offensive line coach position? He’s got tons of experience, is very likeable, and knows Coach Mack. I would think he would be our top choice if he’s willing to relocate back to Hawaii.
kazz….more importantly will they make modifications to their football shoes?
Howzit Al.
Don’t you just hate when people come on here and just post a number?
152?
homey/Stretch…I do get good dart penetration but I think A-sports penetrates rougher….mwahahahahahahaha
(J)J – I heard a demolition company hired A-Sports and gave her 6 high quality diamond tipped darts to bring down old Yankee Stadium once the new one is completed.
Fixing my error:
THE CHILDREN!!!!! THE CHILDREN!!!!!
Bwahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jesse is very involved with the development of his own boys. i believe he is also asst coaching at the younger sons’ hs. i don’t see his coming anytime soon.
but, then again.
Al,
I have no clue about their football cleats and according to some players that felt “off” in them I do hope it will all work out.
Speaking of cleats, I happened to take a first hand look at some off the UA cleats they had at Sports Authority and those buggas seems stiff as hell. Now I have no idea what to look for in a cleat, but for example, the ones our lineman use seem pretty narrow in the sole.
Homey,
All UA gear can double as “sleepwear”.
Curt – like al said, he is involved but to answer your question I think he is a good candidate. in fact anyone that has shown success developing and producing quality o-lineman would be a good candidate.
Is there a walk on program for wannabe coaches?
How about walk on Rainbow Dancers?
Kazz – you sleep in UA? do you mean the cleat is stiff or the sole is stiff? BTW, a cleat on the tip if the sole indicates a soccer shoe…I tried to go the cheaper route but couldn’t fool my boy.
Good afternoon Tsai-kos!!
homey – #125 – how you know about sildenafil? What, you gotta use ’em? 🙄 BTW, does everyone what that is? It’s da little blue pill…. (not purple – dat one for your opu).
So, Jason, will you be at all the games this weekend?
I thought I heard that if you show up at the Wahine game, you get in to da Men’s game for free.
Re men’s vb – they need the band and cheerleaders there! IIRC, it was Wilton that didn’t want them there, or am I imagining things?
Sildenafil? Darts?
Minds are starting to wander…..
jm23nahnah – how you know about it?
Al, Homey
You’re right. Jesse Sapolu has lots going on the mainland…like his 49er position. It would be a big decision for his family to pick up and move. But then again, maybe that’s one of ST’s “surprise recruits.”
😆

Homey,
The cleats I saw were stiff as a board in the soles and they were not soccer cleats. They were “high cut” cleats.
What really caught my attention was how narrow the soles were. I don’t know too many people, lineman alone, that would be able to fit in them confortably.
CRW – stay focused! WARRIORS, WARRIORS, WARRIORS.
I guess no one recalls the name Miano threw out.
Homey,
Walk on Rainbow Dancers? Now that’s an important topic. So important that I can’t believe ST doesn’t have any pics. So, how about it ST?
Homey – don’t you remember where I work?
If so, why didn’t Coach Wilton want the band or the cheerleaders there???
It would be better than the sound guy playing lame-o music during TO’s… I never realized how much I hated that theme music from the Austin Powers movies until I heard it played for 3 minutes straight. 👿
OK, before homey starts making snide remarks – I work with several pharmacists.
Aren’t the cheerleaders “walk ons” also?
re #164 – just re-read my post. I meant to write a shoe without a cleat on the tip is a soccer shoe…sorry Princess Leila.
tick tock tick tock…. just waiting for homey’s answer…..
(not smart to ask those kind questions to homey)
Kazz – seems like UA has various models of football shoes. I wonder if they are all narrow and stiff in the sole?
Cheerleading is considered a collegiate sports team so I think they get scholarships also
Stretch – DAMN! I saw the comment to late!!!
Well since jm works with drug dealers, how about some free samples…for research purposes only and I promise not to harm any animals.
Agree!!! Bring back the 220 with specified times to attain. If
prerequisite is not met, can’t become a starter unless others in
position are injured. That should light a fire under their a$$.
Will Princess Leila videotape the tryouts?
Hmmmm…ST, when do the Rainbow Dancers have try outs??? Can I be a judge????
Howzit Tsaikos everywhere.
Kekoa,
I want in on da surf and turf. what i gotta do to who? 😀
and I coming ova fo da KK, i just wuz tinkin dat LizK could have da company fo the Pro Bowl, and Susan tinks its a big deal, but it ain’t no big ting to me.
Stretch #180,
Scholarships are like VB and band. Small allotment of scholarship
to be split among all. So each gets partial scholarships. Just like
baseball.
UA shoes are garbage. Give me Nike shoes anyday over that junk.
Tadd first rd. +1. Best local so far.
(J)J,
On behalf of the Tsaikos, I appoint you as Judge for the Rainbow Dancer/Cheerleader try outs.
(J)J and Homey,
I appoint Homey as backup Judge for the try outs in case (J)J gets too dehydrated from drooling so much.
I’m not a big fan of the 220’s.
I’d like to see more emphasis placed on explosive and dynamic moves. Only because training for 220’s will not help you in the sense of building fast twitch muscles and may hamper those that strive to put on weight.
Gotta train like those in the strong man competition. Do more agility drills. Sprints. Plyometrics. Power lifts. Work out like you are preparing for a combine.
Need to get quicker and faster on the field. Only way to do it is get quicker and faster at practice.
You’re not gonna chase down someone like how you run in a 220, you’re gonna chase them down like how you run in the 40.
Sure you’ll build endurance preparing for 220’s but you’ll also build endurance and your body will learn recover in a shorter time by doing the other routine. On the average you’ll get at least 20 seconds rest between snaps of the ball.
I’m hungry again.
How’s about a Tsai-ko cheerleader tryout?…..
learn recover = learn to recover
NSF – NO! 😆
but then again I think Stretch would make a good male cheerleader.
homey,
point well made.
the 5-10-5 shuffle is a great drill for testing side to side agility, also, most timekeepers take down the 20 and 40 yd times. plyometrics combined with a Crossfit Training program will further develop the major muscle groups, like the gluteus maximus for power.
kind of like the jimmy the greek theory for what he got canned for, ask pride about the theory.
speed + strength + power
and remember….speed kills………….. 🙂
al,
Even though proximity is good, no can go Thelma’s all the time. Danger!
MHO is I don’t like the “preferred” walk-on label. I’m not sure if Coach Miano used it this morning (by now homey must be wondering wth I did hear…but that’s another story) but I hope UH is not using that shibai on recruits.
What does that mean? You get to sit and watch the scholie guys eat while the other walk-ons gotta stand? You get to pile your stuff on top of the other guys’ stuff during practice instead of in one locker?
It sounds like the “upgrade” status on Omni 😆
it will truly be great if thad can make the cut. that would be the biggest boost for his career.
Homey…but…but…but…k-den, just a thought…
ummmm, NOPE. The NFA would tell me that I can’t taunt the opponents.
stretch,
#118 regarding PBS….whew made some last week when the beast was home……imagine PBS with no beans….what? yeah, i made too much and didn’t have room in the pot…..but i put in portuguese sausage, italian sausage, smoked ham hocks, all the vegetables, pasta, cabage, secret ingredients, more secret ingredients…., and the beans got 86’d ‘cuz nevah have room….
so i guess it was PSS, portuguese sausage soup, but no one complained…haha
one day, one day, we’ll have the cook off!
homey, don’t know your friend, but can check around. your suggestion is super. i watched part of the stongman show and they interviewed one of the “charles atlas” guy and he said that there was quite of a bit to qualify. Not only size, but you made to do minimum strength things, had to be able to walk w/weights (don’t know how much), etc. they don’t just let anyone get into the sport unless they can meet the minimum qualification. imagine if coach mc and the rest of the coaches set minimum standards for fb skills per position along with the academic standards. also got to get the strength and training coordinators to spend more time correcting the hammy problems. it is uncalled for to have that many on a team.
any man that can do a full split, is either howard dashefsky or a wanna be ballerina
i did the splits once, and then i did the guava chiffon, then the black forrest, and finally the banana creme pie, haha
homey, bulla, et al
the only reason i bring up the 220’s is that it seemed to have forced the hand of some to do some kind of intense training. i do agree with your description of training.
it seems that we do need to upgrade our workout regime in principle as it appears that we are so focused on upper body strength. we seem to have neglected the core strength training which to me is more important.
as a long time youth coach, i preferred to focus on core training and leg strength/stamina more than biceps, etc. repetitions like long toss and daily throwing routines are enough to develop arm strength. afterall, all athletic motions are started and ended with core strength.
okay, back to the gym.
whitey,
roman straight leg dead lifts
hyperextension exercises, great for lower back and hamstrings…..i donated one to Weber State because that is how much I believe in that piece of equipment
either of these will resolve many things
5800 HECO customers are the first to have a blackout due to this storm.
Our company phones are down. I was informed by IT via e-mail; told him to call me when it’s fixed.
He wasn’t amused…. 🙄
Regarding hammy problems. could improper foot wear also contribute to the problem? Use to have problems with basketball and softball but after changing shoes, things got better. Could have been that I was out of shape too but.
al,
you are 100% right, as usual. power base is what you need to look at. you don’t walk on your hands…..but it takes a lot of work, hard work and pure determination to develop the core and lower body.
like i used to tell the beast when he was training…..’if you don’t blow, don’t go’, and we’re not talking bubbles.
the mere fact that you have to literally tear the muscle fibers in your body so that they will recover and become even more ‘dense’, seems like an oxymoron….but you don’t build up when you’re lifting, you build up when you’re resting and recovering from your workouts.
racquetball is a great sport for increasing your agility. ask coach chris brown and former RB john kauka……they used to play me 2 on 1 in the racquetball court…….sad to see those young bucks tapping out, haha, but it was fun……
happy birthday faye!!!
i’ve missed you!
whitey….you got me.
who’s thad?
al – who is et al? extraterrestrial al? egg tickler al? exercise time al?
Stretch – can you do the splits?
Bulla – can’t wait for the cookoff!!!
d1 – got honda generator?
d1
at the meeting yesterday i had to leave for, HECO says, ‘we are doing to have power outages, we can’t say when or where, but we are, so prepare for it’. does it sound like a typical CYA move by them?
can anyone say monopoly….and not the boardgame DPK……:(
bulla
an old axiom “no pain…no gain”.
and this was said many times before the rocky movie.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAYE! let me know when you and daughter are going to that sushi bowl place near your work. some days I have a craving for natto and ahi with ikura mixed in.
al, another one, “pain is just weakness leaving your body” or something like that.
homey….
sorry, i meant “ate al”.
i was just coming off some mean lunch. just for your info, leftover opihi is the bomb.
and did you try the raw oysters in the hot sauce at foodland?
you’re right al,
i used to love this shirt i saw on a guy named Tom Platz…..short guy with 39″ quadriceps, with cuts about 3″ to 4″ deep in the front of his legs. very scary sight, but his shirt said, ‘Real Men Squat’
loved it…….
you put the basic ‘old school’ lifts together, squat, power clean, and bench work…all you need…….period.
Happy Birthday Queen Faye !!!
Off topic.. but those EMS personnel in NYC is da best!

some birds took this plane down!
(Jesse) James: Small kine late, but I’ll be sure to impress them with my skills (or lack of skills). Haha!
al
there is no such thing as ‘leftover’ opihi…..at least not in the houses i’ve been…….. too rare to find in the first place….unless das da ala wai version….hmmmmmm
I must be tearing the muscles near my stomach because my belly is becoming more dense. Could be a case of Tsaiko-itis.
homey,
for a moment i thought i saw Tsaikotits in your post….
thanks for proving me wrong…
you must be writing too fast or i am reading too slow, i’ll listen to what you’re writing better……
missed you the other day, but at least we had some conversation in your absence…..and i don’t care what they say, you’re my almost good buddy, 🙂
doesn’t Kelli have a boyfriend?
al – yep, tried the Mililani, Waipio, and Pearl City Foodland oysters but prefer the Pearl City’s Don Quiote’s one.
Bulla – I get the feeling that the silverback is starting to look at the other females in the troop…wait, did I miss something the other day?
stretch…..i could never figure that one(her) out.
the athletic dept is responsible for the revenue derived from sporting events. to get to that point, well, “oxymoron” that she is, is that you need a solid fan base. what does “rabid fan base” infer?
has she attended any major arenas of major sports franchises/colleges that have managed to fill stadiums on a regular basis?
i guess the ones she went to were all doing crossword puzzles in the overtime period, huh?
and i always tease the boss since they were classmates.
i’ll be in pearl city next week.
that would go well with some tanioka’s and greenies.
did i tell you that the boss now prefers mickey’s?
one full gallon bag of opihi can go a long way. we ran out of beer.
Happy Birfday to Ms Faye and many, many more to come!!
homey…..good try.
i kept asking faye to have lunch, but, she just ignores me.
sniff. sniff.
ahouse….how was the nap?
so your neighbor did tell you one of the surprises, too.
didn’t he?
off-topic
Praise God- the US Air jet ditch-landed safely in the Hudsen River and it looks like all 155 people survived!

mickey’s was the preferred drink of stoners…back in the day.
al, let me try again…FAYE, call me! or just post it on the blog is fine.
Hauoli Lahanau Faye Wai!!!
HI FAYE! Say hello to Ala for me!
damn… seems we’ve been waiting for lacount forever already. now he’s coming in the summer?!
sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
JIMHO two words “win sprints” team up with eight players each team, 4 on the goal line and 4 on the 40, first guy all out sprints to tag his partner then repeat till all eight on the team runs two sprints. Held three times a practice once in the beginning, once in the middle and one in the end. Team that wins gets to go to the showers, the rest hit the laps at least two. Some used to call them gassers because by the time you end the last one your outta gas.
i think mac was on the right track by bringing an nfl trainer for a few weeks. i was hoping that we would learn from that and incorporate some of the new age techniques that the pros use.
then again, all nfl players are already motivated to train in and off season to be at their top physical peak otherwise they wouldn’t be there.
ST – do the people in the know also know if the reason was LaCount’s fault, the JC school fault, or UH’s admissions fault?
Happy Birthday Faye…I mean Leila’s mom….
al…I thought the boss drank Becks….oh wait, wrong boss…ROTFLMFAO….
It seems to me that Kainoa gotta go take of business. Time is running out on you brother. You wanna be a player?
All the potential that is kept bottled up will eventually get stale. Man up and get it in gear!
j/j….hahahahaha.
same color bottle though.
btw, has it been a year now???
did she ever thank the warrior beat for “upping” her hits on her blog?
i hear some have visited daily and at all hours of the evening.
interesting observation by mr. wrong, again.
are you the lurker who comes out only when irked???
I bet Rob25 doesn’t visit her blog. If she does I bet she writes nasty stuff and the beck’s lady just deletes her post and moves on like nothing happened.
Mr. Wrong….I agree. Players, in any sport, need to decide if they really want it bad enough. If they do, than they need to do whatever it takes to get it done….
i wish i was 6’7″ 310lbs.
ww and (J)J – are you both saying the reason is all LaCounts? if so, then hopefully things fall into place and he participates in the summer workouts and is ready for prime time in the fall.
Ala Wai Opihi?
I heard they can be as big as an average human face.
I also heard they can speak several different languages.
al and m-homey, make nice, pls… ‘as my buddy dat.
I wish I was a billionaire.
MLiz – i’m just hypothetically speaking. al is the serious one! it’s all (J)J’s fault anyway!
homey…not saying that Lacount is at fault as I do not know the situation. I’m just saying that if you want to play a sport you need to bring it each and every time….and prep as if it is going to be your last chance to impress….that all comes down to pride…..
Homey:
It’s not UH’s fault.
I wish I was twennytwee, 6’7″, 308 lbs and neva have a felony record.
i wood be a playah! 😀 they would call me surrr…. 😀 an i wood be a head slappin body shovin SOT(supahoffensivetype). c’mon LaCount… we waitin fo da Warrior to show up!!!! 😀 yu can do it!!!!
show Chauncey, Bruce da ropes…
But most of all, Kainoa, be the best you can be in your life. You only get dis life. Make da most of it!
Go Warriors!
You wouldn’t post here if you were, homish.

gotta go…..dpk is doing cheerleading stuff.
Happy Birthday, Faye Wai!
speaking of pride, where’s pride.?
al…I don’t think it’s been quite a year yet….
Just got an email from UH. Campus is closed tomorrow, classes cancelled. Keep safe everyone!!
I got the same e-mail. I’m happy that I get the day off, but at the same time, I hope everyone stays safe.
jm,
Manoa is closed tomorrow??? Those valley winds must be insane.
Al,
I just wish to be 5’7″… 🙁
Happy Birthday to Faye Wai!!!
Also, a BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO “POPS” and “Calvin From Kona”
Happy birthday Faye!
Kazz: Yep, this is the e-mail that was sent out:
Due to the potential dangers posed by high-wind gusts predicted to be as high as 60 mph, UH Manoa campus will be closed tomorrow.
Classes are cancelled.
Only essential employees should report to work
And now that’s been extended to all non-Big Island UH campuses:
Based on high wind conditions in Kauai, Oahu and Maui Counties, all UH campuses on all islands other than the Big Island of hawaii will be closed Friday, January 16. Only essential personnel should report to work on these campuses.
Please watch the Media and UH Web sites for additional emergency information. Stay safe!
kazz,
put on your cleats
Bulla,
That’s WITH cleats!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!
Pooooahhh ting me eh?
Public schools, many of the private schools closed, according to the Advertiser home page … I just called my math team kids, this was the first they heard about it. They put me on speaker phone so they could all hear the news together and scream for joy. 😀
Jason,
News of the high winds cannot be settling for the kids residing in the older circular dorms. tsk tsk tsk…
The winds do swirl around in that area, yeah?
I think a lot of young people are going to enjoy the four-day weekend, but I hope everyone stays safe.
LIZKAUAI:
You OK?
stay safe everyone……
time for some good ‘ol PBS, but alas, gotta work and make sure the hotels don’t blow away……sheeeesh
Sheesh… Jason u working your team like dogs? 😆
Of course, we met four times over the winter break. 😛
A “four day weekend”???
Wot is dat? 👿 ….
Dumb thought of the day:
“Maybe I should take a trip up to the Pali Lookout”…
Kazz,
Hmmm…isn’t the wind blowing the wrong way for that today?
D1,
So it wouldn’t be ethical to make some extra cash by telling tourists to jump off the Pali trusting in the mana of King Kamehameha to thrust them back up to safety? 😆
Cash Only! 👿
if you’re going to talk about hawaiian folklore or legends, defer all comments to our in house expert DPK when it comes to hawaiian royalty, talking primates and flying tourists
Legislative offices closed tomw!
No mo’ school either!
Hmmm….
Better Tell Ma?
Is LaCount coming in summer at least? Is that for sure, or could there be more delays?
Anyone can attend summer school. If he can’t get in this spring he needs to be admitted for the fall.
Flying tourists??? Does that myth have anything to do with BCD’s “Wings Over Kaimuki/Waipio” menu item?
It is not DPK’s cheers that bother me. It is that darn short skirt and two sizes too small white sweater.
Time to go ne-ne! Need to get ready for the last day before a three-day’er!!!
Not as good as the four-day’er some of you will enjoy; but, at least we do not have the high winds either.

Kazz yr #147
They should all have insoles/outter soles that helps those whose walking/running gait either pronate or supernate. The UA athletic shoes I’ve seen to date does not compare with Nike/Swoosh as some have mentioned – developed over a very long period with great ‘shoe last’, and materials designed for supporting our wide feet. Used to wear out 3-4 pairs a year running, now running shoes used for walking last a good year before materials and sweat breaksdown insole etc. A good Swoosh running shoes also great for trail running up Manoa/Tantlus. I believe UA ‘lite wt.’ shoes will eventually be good but needs lots of improvement before I can say equal to or exceeds their Swoosh competitor. Am looking toward that day when I will be proud owner of UA pair before I can’t walk/run anymore.
Thanks for your info and look forward to hearing if you buy pair when new models are out and your evaluation.
Suggestion on training- couple of laps up Kilauea Ave starting from 18th Ave to DH and back to 18th and back up again or as the BB team run up da mauka hill at Kaimuki along with al’s 220’s.
702,
Uphill??? Nah no thanks. 😆
But seriously I understand that UA has a LONG way to go as they are just developing their shoes right now, but if these running shoes can compete with the Nikes and the New Balances of the world then they will be on the right track.
Although they may have already started out on the wrong foot because the suggested retail price for these shoes are 90.00-110.00+… not exactly competitive prices right there…

ST:
Are we down to 7 days and counting? Many inquiring minds are chomping at the bit to know.
Let’s see, 2 weeks from 1/8/09 = 1/22/09. OK, gang set your clocks, but wait, ST did not say what time in 2 weeks the BIG SURPRISE THAT WILL SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET will be announced and, he did not say who will make the announcement; or, did he?
howzit! no power here in keolu. missing my tv shows & vb. *tsai*
with all the high winds expected I’m surprised at the number of helicopters flying over mililani these last two nights…
if uh is closed tomorrow, is the vb game still on?
Kazz,
Agree, priced not attractive. that’s why I prefer to get shoes thats been around to meet my needs rather than buying new models to be their guinea pig. Ok, I had to learn that lession from my earlier Nike’s, New Balance before finding tried and true running shoes. Comfort rather than looks.
Tsaiko’s be safe tomorrow in windy conditions.
Watching last Grissom CSI.
is there a blackout in Keolu
Yikes! This coming from our academic star and future model educator?!! 😯 🙄 😯
Al –
No worries….A-House’s sharing info with me couldn’t have been a big deal, much less something that “swept me off my feet.” Honestly, I don’t remember what he told me. A lot of nonsense comes my way everyday…I don’t pay too much attention to him. BTW, don’t hesitate to doubt the veracity of his posts…after all…a “Stephen Tsai” he is not.
why seat people in the upper level for mvb….no sense……make everyone seat in the lower bowl and fill it up, it will be years before the team draws in the 5K+ range like the wahines
It’s okay to open your eyes jm2345…. GU game isn’t on so they won’t loose tonight! On Saturday…. that’s another thing! Go Duke!!! 😆 😯 😀
Anyone notice all the Sony Open banners on every light pole, both sides of King Street, from at least Bethel to Kapiolani? (that’s as far as I could see). Why can’t similar be done with Warrior ‘H’ during football season? Do it at least around campus, Univ Ave, Moilili.
jm2375 –
Sorry I didn’t greet you yesterday. I posted my bd greetings then moved on to complete my list of “things to do”. Sorry you’re “powerless”…Maunawili is probably next. Take care…
Al –
Kaneohe always takes a horrific pounding in wind storms. Hope your home and surroundings weather tonight’s onslaught with minimal damage. Take care…
Wow! 😯 Poor A-House!!! 😀
Faye Wai –
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to you…and many, many more.
cavewarrior – Re: 310 – IMHO – $$$$$ 😯
😆 ❀ 😀 Hi Mrs. A-House! 😀 ❀ 😆
Hey TOM- so far, so good.
Came home to read as much as possible before any probs with power.
It IS windy tho!
Too windy?!! No need talk all the time…. Hiya ❀ Liz ❀!! 😆
Nobody replaces Grissom…. 🙁
!!!!!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAYE!!!!!!!
🙂 Hope you are having a wonderful birthday day! 🙂
Glad to hear Matt Rawson is playing tonight. Is his brother visiting or staying in the 808 for a longer period? 😀
Hmmmmm….. SOMEBODY interrupted my flow of posts…. 🙄
I suppose someone with the nickname “leadfoot” shouldn’t have any problems with the expected high winds…. 😆
Good Evening Tsaikos!!
Happy Birthday Faye!!
I hope everyone stays safe tonight and tomorrow. I am NOT looking forward to the flight to Kauai. The electricity has been flickering on and off. hmmmm, I wonder if the electricity goes off again, the bar will be having free drinks again?? I better head down there, just in case.
Lights flickering … uh oh.
I like Mrs. A-House’s post and observation in #311:
😆
Uh….guys….. 😯
I shoulda known that Homey would start it, Stretch would follow up, and James would chime in.
But, das okay. It’s the off-season. Let the games begin. 😈
……..note to self….sharpen darts
Brew808 –
Hi Brew! Looking forward to meeting up with you in LV. Promise to study your face so it will be indelibly retained in my memory bank…never to be forgotten. Gee…wish someone would say something sweet like that to me. Saving a special space for you to “sign my book”…
Hiya Mrs. A-House – I can always send you a signed Post-It note….. 😆
Reminder to 808 Tsaikos….. Nalani & Shelton have a generator….. 😀 😯 😀
AHouse,
my man, take control ova da computah! stand up fo yoself! 😛
da Mrs. got ahold ah da fingah bustahz and she is goin fo broke! 😀
huuuahhh! 😆 j/k j/k 😆
Sorry about sticking my leadfoot in the middle of your posts, brew. I didn’t know you were going for another record.
I agree, Grissom is one-of-a-kind.
No high winds yet. But I did pick up some extra food in case we needed to hunker down for the weekend. Foot is ready and standing by in case of emergency.
A-House:
I’m hesitant to announce things, in a week, because of the bashing my poor punter took.
Tsaikos. Good news. Pres. Bush fixed a 60 year old to re-enlist.
= no age discrimination = Rich Miano, watch out tomorrow for sum olda tryouts for Warriors. 😀
Yeehaw!!! …. “extra fuud” in the Addahknowsports house! Must be a warehouse! 😆
Yikes! Chain emails are really tough when you have to reference blog posts to “fill in the blanks”….. 🙄
Mrs. A-House — our shy mutual friend in Las Vegas posted this yesterday…
🙂
Mrs. A-House – you will be pleasantly surprised when you meet brew. Contrary to popular misconceptions, he does not look like this: 😈
Breaking news for East Oahu Tsai-ko’s who live or play near Club Genji. It seems that the cast and crew of “Lost” is filming in the parking lot of the Foodland across the street. Casting call for Tsai-ko’s. Just wear your Tsaiko shirt and you’re in the mob scene.
Ha ha…. besides, that 😈 image is only two dimensional. And, Mrs. A-House did get to meet me. She’s too kind to admit to her nightmares…. 😀
Isn’t SteveM already there? 🙄
SteveM ~ Tell your people at the Club that they should invite the cast over for a little sing-along & Sake. They’ll need a place to shelter themselves from the storm.
kekoa….you mean times supermarket?
BTW – 808-Air must be hurting. There are some decent airfares 808 to/from mainland. This is for now, and also for Sept including LAS and SEA. I didn’t check PDX. You may Th/F before each game is tight. It’s worth checking out. 😆
Kekoa possibly meant …. Food-land! 😆
Oops…Times market…thinking about our Tsaiko Foodland auditor!
Did someone mention “Mickey’s” earlier? I have bad memories of that stuff…. I think. 😀
Kekoa – Did Pops get his live lobster for dinner? 😀
BTW – what’s with you picking bad habits from jm23or4 and making “brew” jokes? 😈
Kekoa:
That’s Times on King St. Evangeline Lily is on site and she is soooo hot!Kinda short, but wearing these awesome CFM pumps and running up and down the aisles. I was in produce. There’s a sale on cantaloupe.
Wow, I go watch my new, but old Korean drama, The Painter of Wind, and Mrs goes bananas – guess you know who’s really the boss here!!
ST:
I don’t think your “punter” post got bashed, but we are still waiting for the BIG announcement that will “blow you off your feet”!! It must be really Gooooooooood!!!!!!
Your credibility is on the line!
Brew ~ Yes…Pops and the family just got back about an hour ago from a great dinner, but since they woulld not let him have his lobster raw, he opted for the Butterfish instead (?).
I have not used your name in vain!…it was a song that was written using your name. It was meant for our resident Hilo Krazy Karaoke Fan.
Are you planning on being home for the blog bash this year?
Brew ~ I always order the ‘Uni’ for the both of us. They were out of stock. We were devasted! 👿
Lost&Found ~ You man-handled the cantalopes right in front of Ms Lily?
Hmmm–everyone knows that’s a Times market across from Genji. Known for their watercress… 😆
😳 Forget my post of #302. The 808-Air sale is pau! Wow – shows that you have to keep looking, and strike fast if/when you see a deal…. 😳 😯 🙄
SteveM – Yes – even I know that about Club Genji. 😀
😳 Re: 808-Air, was Re: #342 😳
Happy Birthday Queen Faye!
I didn’t realize that one local player has already committed to Wyoming and another recruit is visiting this weekend. UH cannot take all the Hawaii recruits, so I’m happy whenever local players (that UH doesn’t offer) get scholarship offers from other schools.
Coach Cav was a big loss for UH, just like losing Mac after his first season as DC was a big loss. But the BCS schools offered way more money…and the disparity in assistant coach salaries is even worse now!
This article gives some of the numbers for Tennessee’s new assistants. They aren’t the highest paid at their positions, as Tennessee doesn’t have nearly the biggest budget for BCS schools…but things are crazy!
Some tidbits from the article:
Their new DC makes $1 million per year!
Their Defensive Line coach makes $600k per year! I think that is more than some WAC head coaches!
Their strength and conditioning coach makes $190k per year.
Miami is searching through the CFL to find some talented players…that is interesting because there are several Warriors playing in the CFL. This is a smart thing for Parcells to do because there is a lot of talent in the CFL who seem to be overlooked by the NFL.
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff.
I think that it is pretty cool that four student’s from New Jersey’s High Tech High had a paper published in a math journal. This was part of a high school contest where they had to research and write the paper in less than 14 hours, and they got to split $20,000 in scholarships for winning. It would be awesome if some of Jason’s future students win this award.
A handset vendor in Kenya has launched an Obama-branded phone. The handset has Obama’s colors and logo, plus it has “Obama” and “Yes We Can” on the handset. Somehow I doubt that Obama approved this use of his name and campaign slogan and I doubt he’s getting any money from the Obama phone.
A bill was introduced in South Carolina that attempts to make profanity illegal, with a fine of up to $5000 or up to 5 years in prison.
Duke University demonstrated a new metamaterial algorithm for creating cloaking devices that works over more frequencies and can be fabricated much quicker than other techniques (9 days from concept to fabrication instead of months).

Hehe, I read through the first part of their truncated paper … then I got bored. But it’s good work, they earned that scholarship money. Nobody can say that kind of mathematical modeling is easy; just being able to comprehend the issue and come up with an idea is tough enough, then to do so much research in such a short period of time, and apply that research to your model …
You guys sure it’s not a SAFEWAY? Movie magic sometimes change things ya know…

Saw this on HawaiiAthletics.com concerning tomorrow night’s volleyball game:
The teams are scheduled for a rematch on Friday at 7:05 p.m., however, in the event that the heavy winds cause damage to the university, the match may be rescheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Was Times! Cantaloupes, perfect shape, size and texture. They should be around the area tomorrow. Base camp looks like Central Union on Beretania. Get some pretty hot supporting extras too. FYI, the watercress is up near $4 and not too fresh. The daikon was solid!
Da funniest part was watching the little Japanese grandmas dodging the cameras but being niele sneaking around the stack of Ritz Crackers. One Filipino man was held back from the cold cut section. The crew told him to go around or wait. He said, “But sir, I need to go ober der por de hahm!”

oh, and someone needs to invite Chris Rawson to basketball games. we could always use a few more ingenious hecklers to sit with us. we try, but for some reason, refs and opposing players seem to ignore us.
Happy Birfday, Queen Mum o’ the WB!
At least Grissom got to hook up with his honey again. Nice exit for him. Fishburn has big shoes to fill, but he’s been interesting so far…
Howzit Chawan! 🙂
You’re right, quality hecklers are hard to find! 😆
The prelude to a good marriage is a successful courtship and engagement. This isn’t hard to understand. Any breaches on either side and the marriage is off…no, ands, ifs and or buts. Any thought of infidelity, second thoughts, cold feet or apprehension then the wedding is off. Plain and simple. And this is the same tenement that I wish our football coach would follow in regards to recruiting, for I think it is blasphemous for recruits to pledge and promise a commitment to the UH and then be looking and taking recruiting trips to other colleges. It’s just not right, in my opinion.
In fact I would have the utmost respect for a coach that closed the book on the recruits that did this. Same thing with recruits that have already made commitments elsewhere I wouldn’t want anything to do with them.
It speaks volumes for a coach that does things on moral principals without any regard to the win column. Or kowtow to these type of recruits.
When Hawaii got a head start in recruiting it filled specific needs that the team needed filling-DE, LB, CB etc. With each verbal commitment came a promise that should be sacred. And the coaches counted on the player’s word. And probably, in some cases, passing up on other viable recruits because they thought their needs were filled. You see how the team can be in a bind, now, when what they thought ,at one, time was an oasis might turn out to be a mirage, especially if all these recruits looking elsewhere do skip town. And this may certainly hurt the team. But there’s a silver lining if the coach expresses to the team a life lesson from all of this. And makes changes in his philosophy of recruiting in the coming years.
What I would do if I were Coach Mack is this. Simply gather his team. And let them know that they are the first on his future recruiting philosophy . Tell the players that he is setting a new precedence in how he is dealing with the future recruits, especially the ones who were verbal committed and are looking elsewhere. Tell them it’s insulting, shameful and it hurts when they promise and then flip flop. And draw the players in closer, so that they latch onto every word. And look into their eyes and tell them there are life lessons to be followed, similarly how a man and women make pledges in the preludes to marriage is in the same light he’s going to hold future recruits-any breach of the promise and it’s over…no, ands, ifs, or buts. Look elsewhere after making a pledge, don’t come back here should be the new mantra.. Yes it has to be harsh…there are so many good kids to covet on his team…and other recruits who’s words are sacred.
By doing this, and this is the silver lining, it not only teaches the kids a lesson it also spreads a deep esprit de corp within the team. And this can snowball with every step that the coach does that is morally right. And this is what the team might hungers for and craves for..
Nitey nite and have a SAFE evening, ka kou!
I would say it’s not a good idea to renege on a pledge.
But then again, many of UH’s players did that: Vince Manuwai, Lui Fuga, Adam Leonard, Davone Bess, etc.
Wow. Liz. Checking out 23 minutes before I announce a recruit?
roysan16- Two of our best players- Colt and Davone- made the most of their opportunities to excel after they experienced something in their lives that showed them where they did NOT want to be. I will always admire Coach Jones for recognizing their qualities and giving them a chance.
Coach Mack, I believe, will also make the most of the cream that rises from this new crop of recruits. I am praying that the Warriors will find a level of unity that will give them consistence and determination… and the wins.
whoosh!
Hi ST!
I’ll wait 😉

Until the recruit signs the LOI, they are still dating! Papa Mac and Staff must continue to court these guys all the way until they get to the signing. Maybe we need to send a Miss Hawaii with a Lei to each school on signing day to keep Hawaii on their minds. For many of these guys Hawaii is as far away from home as they will travel. Bye-bye Mom…Bye-bye GF…bye-bye to the world I have known for 17 or 18 years. Aloha Hawaii…aloha new people…aloha strange food. I never realize the difficulty until I was living on the Mainland and a buddy said, “How does it feel to be the Haole?” Maybe we can get The Adveriser to do a mock Front Page for each one with the Headline, “Aloha Myles! Welcome to the ohana.” Have a bunch of fans write Letters to the Editor inside telling them how much we appreciate their signing with the Warriors and how much we will support them.
Gotta go all out to convince these youngsters they are making the right choice.
“Hawaii…more than football, more than an education…an adventure for life!”

I dont see LaCount being in football shape after after a two year layoff. He last played in 2007, sat out 2008 and at best wont rejoin the team until summer camp.
REM Amani Purcell?
Same deal…it hurt his progress as would anyone that stays out that period of time, including athletes returning from church missions.
Its more than clearing dust off the mantel or re-oiling the machinery…it will take a year…at least.
