QB Higgins to transfer to UH

0069Quarterback Jeremy Higgins has received a scholarship release from Utah State and will transfer to Hawaii, his father Jim Higgins confirmed to the WB today.

Higgins was named to the All-State second team as a Saint Louis School senior in 2009. He led the state in pass efficiency that year.

As a true freshman at Utah State in 2010, he played in two games, completing four of six passes for 22 yards.

Because UH is leaving the WAC after the 2011 football season, Higgins will only have to redshirt one year. After that, he will have three years to play three seasons.

Jim Higgins, a former Warrior player,  is the manager for San Francisco 49er defensive lineman Issako Sopoaga. Jeremy Higgins’ older brother, Cameron Higgins, signed with Calgary of the Canadian Football League. His sister, Tayler Higgins, is a highly recruited volleyball player who took an unofficial visit to UH last week.

The Warriors who are expected to be eligible for the 2012 NFL draft will be weighed, measured and administered the Wonderlic test during tomorrow’s Junior Day.

The results will be forwarded to 30 of the 32 NFL teams that participate in the information-sharing network.

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

    Top something!

    I guess it was #one

    So where is DPK?

  3. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 7:51 am

    Tom Mui:

    Maybe he pulled a hammy.

know when DBs get burned on a long pass? First thing to do is grab a hamstring.

    Good morning, gang!

Good luck to the Juniors who are going to be tested.

  9. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 8:03 am

Fortunately for UH, it doesn’t have any halfbacks.

  10. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 8:13 am

what’s the score for running backs?

  11. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 8:15 am

    Where are the flowers?

  13. Michigan Warrior May 4, 2011 8:21 am

    Good luck, Warriors!!!

  15. jm2375 May 4, 2011 8:30 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!!

Power went out this morning for about 15 min while Screecher was in the shower. 🙄

It’s May and there’s snow on Mauna Kea!

So, which 2 teams *don’t* participate in the info sharing?

It would be nice if we heard something from OC 16 about UH sports on TV.What will be the options for the fans ?

We in Foster Village were lucky — no power outages. knock on wood.

  18. d1shima May 4, 2011 8:37 am

    Great Morning All!

Got together with Rasu Begas last night for some sushi and karaoke. Good times!

Found out that Committed Road Warrior was in town but he had family plans and wasn’t able to join us. However, he did let me know he’d be there in September! 🙂

  19. d1shima May 4, 2011 8:37 am

No discernible power outages where I am.

    Blaine Gabbert – 42

    Oops.

    Continued, Colin Kaepernick 37

    Christian Ponder 35

    Andy Dalton 29

    Ryan Mallet 26

    Cam Newton 21

    Jake Locker 20

  23. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 8:46 am

hey, that Kaepernick is pretty smart!

  24. Shoko May 4, 2011 8:47 am

Jay Carney may be a graduate from an Ivy League school (Yale, I think) and a intelligent guy, but he should not be a White House Press Secretary.

  25. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 8:48 am

    why, Shoko?

  26. d1shima May 4, 2011 8:51 am

    Shoko,

Never thought I’d ever wish Gibbs was still around; this guy is an a$$

  27. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 8:52 am

    Jm:

Raiders don’t. I think the Patriots are the other one.

  28. d1shima May 4, 2011 8:53 am

    gigi,

    Watch the current press conference.

  29. Shoko May 4, 2011 8:53 am

Just think Robert Gibbs is a better spokeperson for the White House. Carney, says too many “uhs” in his interview.

  30. al May 4, 2011 8:53 am

wouldn’t you want it to rain if the roof repair guy is coming out?

  31. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 8:54 am

We print the measurements. We don’t get the Wonderlic results, though.

  32. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 8:56 am

Gibbs was inarticulate with too many uhs and ums.

Now you say Carney does that, too.

What’s with Obama? He, himself, is very articulate. Why can’t he hire people like himself?

  33. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 8:57 am

al, guess what, the sun is out finally. Hope it holds up. I don’t want the hem of my muu to get wet…

  34. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 8:57 am

April showers might bring May flowers, but May lightning knocks out HECO power so you can’t see the OkC Thunder.

  35. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 8:58 am

heck, ST would be a great presidential press secretary. Why doesn’t he apply for the job?

  37. NorthShoreFan May 4, 2011 9:08 am

Great State High School Softball games last night. Got to see future d1 players in action. Was kinda interesting watching some little munchkins playing the game and creating havoc on the base paths and batting order! Lots of speed and desire.

  38. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 9:22 am

I agree with Obama that providing the media with bin Laden’s photos would be inflammatory. And doubters wouldn’t believe the photos were authentic, anyway.

  39. al May 4, 2011 9:28 am

    nsf

impressed with how li’ili’i approaches the game and she can hit the ball. she looks like our future firstbaseman and #3/4 batter.

  40. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 9:28 am

    Gigi:

Yep, I’m second-guessing the moon landing.

  41. al May 4, 2011 9:29 am

    derek…is jake locker a blond?

  42. NCAA May 4, 2011 9:29 am

    Wonderlic questions are not difficult.

    Sample:

A boy is 17 years old and his sister is twice as old. When the boy is 23 years old, what will be the age of his sister?

  43. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 9:30 am

It should be like the Warren Commission report.

Release the photos in a couple of years, when the emotions die down.

That’s probably what they should have done with the Sugar Bowl video.

  44. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 9:31 am

    NCAA:

A follow-up question is: Why the 17-year age gap?

  45. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 9:33 am

Don’t think the questions are hard. I think trying to answer 50 questions in 12 minutes isn’t easy.

  46. Guy in the office May 4, 2011 9:33 am

Re: 38. Agree about doubters. A photo already ran in the Star-Advertiser on Monday, and it was a fake as later reported by Associated Press.

  47. NCAA May 4, 2011 9:34 am

Nessie is real. Sasquatch is real too. I saw him on the Jack Link beef jerky commercial.

  48. PowderPuff May 4, 2011 9:34 am

I am terrible with numbers, but I would *guess* the sister would be twice as old – 46? Hey, when are the football season ticket renewals going out? I thought it was in April last year, but maybe I’ve forgotten.

  49. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 9:35 am

Of course, the Wonderlic is just a prep quiz. Salas said teams asked him to go to the white board and draw up plays and how to counter different coverages. I understand he did very well in that questioning.

  50. NCAA May 4, 2011 9:36 am

Almost 15 seconds a question. Planny time fo presha out.

  51. NCAA May 4, 2011 9:38 am

  52. madeinhawaii May 4, 2011 9:38 am

Did they already award the winning bid for the new turf at Aloha?

  53. NCAA May 4, 2011 9:40 am

Regarding the 17 year gap. Second marriage.

  54. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 9:45 am

But that would make them steps.

Of course, it would be a better story if there were 15 siblings between them

This is temporary good news as our RPI will fall for sure no matter what we do against SJSU this weekend. Their RPI is a dismal 202!!!!!!!!

    ST – #27 – figures. 🙄

Welcome home and welcome to the Warrior ohana, Jeremy Higgins!

    GO OWLS! (DI softball)

    GO WOLFPACK (DII softball)

  66. jm2375 May 4, 2011 10:27 am

NCAA – #62 – it could have been 2 years because he was transferring to a school in the same conference.

  67. Stretch May 4, 2011 10:28 am

#59 – I wonder if there are other QB’s from WAC teams that might want to come back to UH?? I bet they went to the other schools thinking they can come back home twice to play in front of family and friends. Now with UH leaving the WAC, there is no opportunity.

  68. NCAA May 4, 2011 10:29 am

They are allowed 2 redshirt years?

  69. Da Punchbowl Kid May 4, 2011 10:30 am

  76. NCAA May 4, 2011 10:44 am

SteveM, what did you call your professors when you were in college? I call them professor and then their last name. For a clearer mental picture, if the last name was Albright I would call her Professor Albright.

  77. al May 4, 2011 10:46 am

    welcome home jeremy.

…and not to forget brother zach higgins who also was a safety/spec teams guy for weber state believe he graduated this year.

…and still there is another higgins, parker higgins a soon to be olineman for the warriors (hoping).

  78. Kazz on Droid_X May 4, 2011 10:50 am

Little? Aint nothing little about Liilii!!!

Coach Coolen may have a headache deciding on 1st base next season.

    Very 1st base “heavy” year.

Kayla Wartner is beasting it up in Cali batting over. 500 and slugging at 1.200+ and with 40+ RBIs.

Local folks just saw what Liilii can do in the circle and at the plate although her development to pitch at the D1 NCAA level will take some time.

If Makani or Sarah keep battling they just further complicate the competition and that is not a bad thing. Makani has done well over the last two WAC series.

  79. Ralph May 4, 2011 10:55 am

Shannon Lum and Jori Jasper also play first base for Na Wahine.

  80. al May 4, 2011 10:55 am

one of them will be dp next year. if they can hit above .300 they’ll find a spot for them.

  81. al May 4, 2011 10:56 am

maybe one of them can play 3b or left field.

  82. Ralph May 4, 2011 10:59 am

Wartner is a lefty, also a catcher. Aguirre will be a senior and will hold down the LF position. I don’t see any of the first base candidates playing in the OF, at the D1 level the fielder has to have foot speed.

  83. Ralph May 4, 2011 11:01 am

Another recruited player coming in next season is Burton, a utility who plays INF and OF, similar to Nakao and Zamora on this season’s roster.

  84. Kazz May 4, 2011 11:06 am

I couldn’t stop grinning when it came down to Mysha Sakarata and Leisha Liilii last night. 😎

Scanning the archives for today, I discovered that Midnight first posted on this day 4 years ago. I did not see him post next until summer 2009 regarding the UH-UNLV game.

    Comment from: Midnight [Visitor]

    Hi Stephen,

I have been following your blog recently, reading with interest all the comments, and sentiments with regard to football team etc. I find them interesting, especially the rapport and enthusiasm of the various contributors.

I intend to be in Vegas during the month of September, and want to put in a request for about five tickets for the game there. I know I would enjoy seating with this WARRIOR bunch. Will you please give my email address to the person/persons who are doing the legwork for this project. I have more questions also regarding tailgate etc. too.

    Thanks.

    Midnight.

    UH vs UNLV 2011

Okay folks, now that spring is here and I’ve gotten through visiting the tax man, it’s time to start organizing for the game. My hat goes out to SteveM for compiling the preliminary ticket count, which is currently at 77. A few of you have emailed me with ticket requests. I’m not sure what happened to those emails. PLEASE email your ticket requests to SteveM so I can get an idea of how many tickets to get this year.

As in past years, UNLV won’t sell tickets to the general public until season ticket holders get first crack. If I can’t somehow use my charm to get the tickets earlier, I will fly to Vegas the first day of ticket sales and see what kind of block I can get. Regardless, I should know how much the tickets will be prior to flying out there, and I will pass them along to you at cost. (Of course, an extra $1 or $2 to cover my travel costs is always appreciated, but not required.)

Use stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com or any other email addy/means you might know. Also note that your number of tickets requested is understood to be tentative for now. Final confirmation later.

This is the 3rd time Rich2176 is generously doing this, so there is not much uncertainty or mystery involved here. Same with Rasu Begasu’s tailgate buffet and optional bus. Please provide any other info and tentative RSVP requests as listed at:

    http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/las2011.html

  86. Ralph May 4, 2011 11:23 am

UH has a verbal who can play both first and third. Hopefully she signs. Seven first base candidates is a lot. Third base is open with the completion of eligibility of Melissa Gonzalez, DP is openly competitive this season, RF will be vacant next year with Jenna and Jasey completing their career this year.

  87. d1shima May 4, 2011 11:29 am

    Good news about Jeremy Higgins.

    Good morning all!

  89. 偵探 May 4, 2011 11:36 am

I not to mention my guys were found to be looking at the good hints located on your web blog and so immediately got a horrible feeling I had not expressed respect to the web site owner for those secrets. My young boys appeared to be totally stimulated to see all of them and now have certainly been using these things. Thanks for truly being really thoughtful and for making a decision on this kind of important guides millions of individuals are really desirous to understand about. My honest apologies for not saying thanks to you sooner. 5

  90. mctruck May 4, 2011 11:36 am

just wondering???…wouldn’t it have been better to take bin laden alive(wounded, etc.), so they could pick his brain, rather than splatter it all over the wall, so to speak….either way, imop, it’s all a matter of extracting him from the compound anyway. Maybe they weren’t taking any chances of him escaping or pushing a self destruct button on the entire compound??….who knows??

Atleast they’d have a real live, captured, bin laden, just like when they captured, Sadaam.

  91. mctruck May 4, 2011 11:38 am

    Oooops!, sorry off-subject.

  92. mctruck May 4, 2011 11:40 am

Is Higgins a pocket qb or run-n-shoot???

  93. d1shima May 4, 2011 11:42 am

    mctruck,

SLS ran spread option while he was there. Borel was doing the same at USU last year IIRC.

  94. d1shima May 4, 2011 11:45 am

    mctruck,

A living, breathing OBL would have been a real headache for BHO. His base constituents would want him to do a trial; his re-election advisors would have wanted him to go military tribunal and execute him before Nov 2012.

  95. kawika49 May 4, 2011 11:48 am

#91 He would have been more of a liability alive. Could you imagine hijackings, hostage taking (in order to free him) and the second guessing by Obamas critics. No, the more important hostage taken was the hard drives, documents etc. Even if their were no actual hard drives taken; it would give pause to their (Al-Qaida) internal security. Now we can start playing games with them, and having them turn on each other, in order to protect themselves. Just the uncertainty factor for them is more significant, than the deat of Bin Laden.

  96. kawika49 May 4, 2011 11:48 am

    deat=death

  97. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 11:55 am

Now, I worry about the safety of Obama’s wife, kids, and sister! Aren’t they in the public eye a lot?

how secure are his kids when they arrive and depart from their school?

it would be devastating for the president if his daughters were hurt or killed.

  98. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 11:56 am

Nice to see Jeremy Higgins come back to the islands and become a Warrior. I thought his bro Cameron was pretty dayum good as he showed he can move the ball when they played against us a couple years ago. Once Moniz and Austin graduates the QB position is up for grabs. I think Graves has the head start to become the successor to Moniz but who knows if one of the others will catch on quickly and surprise in the offseason. I mean we got a handful to choose from Graves, Shutter, Nielsen, Spain, Alo, and now Higgins. This group is unproven so I wouldn’t be surprised if Coach Rolo will be looking for a QB again… Plus they all seem a bit undersized with each just clearing 6′ and 5’11”. Would be nice to have a big strong armed QB like Greg Alexander again…too bad he got injured I think he would’ve been an NFL prospect had he played the full season without injury.

  99. Warriorbacker May 4, 2011 11:58 am

Kazz is Liiliii and Sataraka both UH commits?

  100. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 11:58 am

I received letters and receipts for my 2 donations to the UH Foundation recently. They sure work quickly and efficiently. I am impressed.

  101. Derek May 4, 2011 12:02 pm

Anybody been to Logan, Utah where Utah St. is? I have. And I know why Higgins is coming back. It too damn cold over there. There’s nothing great about the city, more like a spread out community, something like Corvallis, Oregon. One of the attractions in Logan is a cheese factory and one of the places we ate was Riley Wallace’s favorite place for his basketball teams was the Golden Corral. WOW!!!! What excitement!

Welcome home, Jeremy. There is no place like Hawaii.

  102. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 12:03 pm

A player can have five redshirt years.

Of course, that would leave him with zero eligibility years.

  103. kawika49 May 4, 2011 12:04 pm

#98 The President’s family are better protected, than those blowhards who spout anti-muslim statements on the internet, TV etc. If I were they, I’d be more careful with my statements, since they (Al Qaida) too have access to the internet and over the air transmissions.

  104. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 12:05 pm

    Derek:

We always stay in Ogden, figuring it’s halfway between Logan and Salt Lake City. But it’s just a long and not-so-great drive. Then you have to go over the Pass. In the fall, it’s not so bad. In the winter, it’s the Skyslide (next to Gibson, Mapunapuna Shopping Center … Sorry, just had a Hilo Hattie moment).

  105. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 12:06 pm

well, I sure hope Barack’s sister is protected — especially at book signings, where she promotes her recently published childrens book.

  106. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2011 12:07 pm

I think the terrorist retaliation comes through the Internet, not in actually physical retribution. The Internet is already in most people’s homes. If the plan is to mess with people, viruses are the way to go.

  107. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 12:08 pm

my daughter wants to study physical therapy either in Utah or Puget Sound.

never been to either. what are they like?

Mysha Sakarata ia currently a junior and is undeclared at the moment, well, according to ESPN.

Leisha Liilii already signed her LOI to UH.

  111. al May 4, 2011 12:20 pm

sataraka may be the top d1 prospect next year. isn’t she only a junior?

comes from a good family too.

  112. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 12:21 pm

Hmm…just thinking out loud who do you guys think so far has the best chance of being an NFL prospect next year? This is who I’m thinking would have the best chances but it all depends on this coming seasons performances by each individual…

QB – Bryant Moniz – If he can put up around the same numbers or surpass them this coming year he should get a look somewhere. He has to prove he can win the tough games and looking at the strength of schedule, he needs to win em all convincingly!

    RB – None right now

WR – Royce Pollard – depends on this coming seasons performance, but he has to have a big year…anything less than at least 80 catches 1,000yds., and 10 plus TD’s and he’ll be a long shot

OL – Ausin Hansen, Brett Leonard – Depends on how well they protect Moniz this year and dominate on the line. They have the size but need to be more physical and dominate the trenches this year big time.

DL – Kaniela Tuipolotu, Vaughn Meatoga – Depends on how big a year each has. Much more than that they need to show they can dominate the trenches and stop the run. They are somewhat undersized for DLineman but if they have monster years someone will give them a look.

LB – Corey Paredes, Aaron Brown – If they can both have huge years and put up some nice numbers again, there’s no reason why they won’t get a look.

    CB – None right now

S – Richard Torrers – Although undersized, if he has a big year, he’ll get a shot too.

  113. Derek May 4, 2011 12:21 pm

I would be interested in knowing the wonderlic scores of the following:

    1) Jamarcus Russell

    2) Ryan Leaf

    3) Akili Smith

    4) Terry Bradshaw *

Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson of the Dallas Cowboys said Bradsaw couldn’t spell CAT, even if he was spotted the C and the A!!!!

  114. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 12:25 pm

Logan, Utah sucks…it’s so boring and really nothing exciting at all there. Granted there’s some choice snowboarding and skiing spots during the winter time but other than that it’s pretty much dead there. Well I guess seeing the big letter in the mountain at night like BYU is cool???

  115. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 12:26 pm

    Derek,

so what? Bradshaw is working and he is rich!

  116. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 12:26 pm

Oops Torres I meant, my bad

  117. d1shima May 4, 2011 12:28 pm

I wonder what Rashard Mendenhall’s Wonderlic score was or absent that, WTH was he thinking with those tweets the other day?

  118. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 12:28 pm

and Austin, dayum I can’t type for crap today

  119. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 12:28 pm

Too bad UH-Hilo hasn’t used their federal grant to open a PT dept yet. It would be so ideal for my daughter to study there.

  120. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 12:32 pm

Hope the MVP Derek Rose shows why he was chosen by killing the Hawks tonight. Plus Kobe and the Lake Show need to put the smack down on the Mavericks, I can’t stand Dirk Nowitzki or Mark Cuban…

  121. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 12:32 pm

I find it amusing how ST appears on the blog all of a sudden and then disappears just as suddenly. lol.

    just like a SEAL, eh?

  122. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 12:34 pm

I watched Marrk Cuban on Dancing with the Stars several years ago. Gotta give him credit for being so gutsy. He was stiff but didn’t seem too up tight.

  123. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 12:35 pm

    Dirk Nowitzki is kinda cute.

  124. al May 4, 2011 12:40 pm

tuipulotu is the top dog. meatoga will open eyes on pro day with his quickness.

paredes needs to run a 4.6 to be considered since he will be labeled as an undersized guy.

moniz should get at least a free agent look if not cfl.

austin could get some cfl looks or at least ufl.

hansen has to get on the field this year first.

leonard has the size to get at least a long look.

pollard will be only senior starting receiver and if anything by default will get condisderations.

little richard may be too small to be considered at the nfl level.

if he has a big year, zach masch could find himself in a free agent position.

brown could get a late rounder if he stays healthy and puts up some monster numbers.

not too many seniors this coming year.

  125. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 12:59 pm

Yup, it all depends on each guy having huge years this coming season… Like Hansen, Masch needs to be on the field more consistently. I don’t think Shane Austin has enough game time and production to be considered but he could definitely land in the CFL, UFL, or AFL. Richard Torres may be too small but I wouldn’t count him out…he plays smart, has game speed, and makes plays.

  126. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 1:08 pm

Mark Cuban is gonna be crying once Dirk retires cause that team is old and going downhill just like the rest of the Texas NBA teams. San Antonio Spurs especially are getting ancient and old like Coach Popovich’s hair. Houston Rockets might as well retire Yao Ming before he really hurts himself. Mavs with Dirk, J.Kidd, J. Terry, etc… are aging quickly… if they don’t win a championship with Dirk around they probably won’t for a long time…

Dirk = cute that was and oxymoron right cause dude is fugly and needs a haircut!

  127. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 1:14 pm

PBoy, lol. Hey, I am a sucker for blue eyes.

But, you make a good point. Heck, even the Celtics are getting old. Look how they huff and puff against the Heat.

  128. Bulla May 4, 2011 1:20 pm

congrats to higgins, too bad ‘the beast’ won’t see him in Logan this year on sept. 10th. good luck to all the Warriors pursuing their dreams……IMUA

  129. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 1:22 pm

Yup Heat will win that series easily, D. Wade, Lebron, and C. Bosh are in the prime of their careers. To be honest if they don’t win the title or a couple for that matter, then Lebron will be the most overrated player in the league and will prove once again he can’t finish. He’s lucky D. Wade won’t let that happen though and they’ll get a championship or two, if Kobe lets them lol. I’m pulling for the Bulls though cause I love Derrick Rose’s game and Joaquim Noah too. Carlos Boozer is one my favs cause he’s a Duke guy. I think it’ll come down to the Bulls and Heat in the Eastern conference finals… then the Lakers and Thunder in the West. Who knows cause the Grizzlies are a scary team too…

  130. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 1:28 pm

I am just amazed how the Bulls have become so prominent. Because they were always the underdog after Jordan retired, I stopped following them. So I am shocked!

I love LeBron’s life story. What a great kid to love and help his single mom the way he did. I hope he finishes what he started out to do and wins the natl championship!

  131. hubby May 4, 2011 1:34 pm

    clueless.

  132. papajoe2 May 4, 2011 1:44 pm

Will Jeremy Higgins take up a scholarship? If so, when? This coming year during his redshirt year or the following year when he becomes eligible?

  133. NCAA May 4, 2011 1:56 pm

I wouldn’t use a scholarship on him at this time.

  134. whitey May 4, 2011 2:02 pm

ppj, don’t think so. i think for uh, most transfers in the past have had to pay their own way and earn a scholarship which was not guaranteed. Welcome to Higgins and my best to him.

  135. whitey May 4, 2011 2:03 pm

brennan, moniz, silva are just a few who transferred and paid their own way till they earned a scholarship.

  136. whitey May 4, 2011 2:04 pm

d1 and rasu, know you had fun adn sorry I missed the fun.

  137. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 2:11 pm

Chicago Bulls just added the right pieces to their team that’s all. It started with drafting Derrick Rose, then adding Carlos Boozer to the mix. All you need is the right ingredients and the next thing you know you got a winning combination. That’s why the New York Knicks with a few more additions will be on the come up soon. Think if Dwight Howard leaves Orlando, he could go the Knicks route and team up with Amare and Carmelo. It is why instant success happened with Miami Heat by signing Lebron and Bosh. Celtics by getting KG, Ray Allen, Rondo… Lakers by adding Odom, Gasol, and Artest… I mean it takes the right combo to get wins through the draft and free agency…

It is why recruiting at the college level is the lifeblood of either being really good, average, or mediocre. I think Coach Mack and Coach Gib in their respective sports are starting to go after those types of big time players which could bring our Warrior teams into consistent post season bowl games and tournaments no doubt. It just takes time and the right ingredients to get things perfect and once you do it’s just a matter of keeping those ingredients fresh and like Aunty Marialani said, make sure it’s not too sweet, not too rancid, but just right ah…

  138. Pauoa Boy May 4, 2011 2:14 pm

Yup Higgins won’t be on scholarship until he proves he deserves one. UH is no longer the fall back school like Coach Mack said, gotta earn everything and prove your worth!

  139. mctruck May 4, 2011 2:17 pm

    Gigi, ur #107….

My x-girlfriend went to Puget Sound, and she was a Kamehameha grad…..if that means anything?, anyway, I know of one local girl who went there?!

  140. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 2:29 pm

don’t know about U of Puget Sound — aka University of Parties and Sex. Is that really true? lol

  141. mctruck May 4, 2011 2:30 pm

Shoko, ur#24….Trump would make a good press secretary because he’s full-of-it!!

  142. mctruck May 4, 2011 2:31 pm

er, yeah?!…she did say she had a good time, er, enjoyed it up there????…hmmmmm??

  143. mctruck May 4, 2011 2:33 pm

    press secretary=quick rebuttal.

  144. d1shima May 4, 2011 2:39 pm

Lotsa (808) kids at UPS; many from top private schools. At $47k per year to attend, I’m sure parents are getting their money’s worth.

  145. mctruck May 4, 2011 2:44 pm

    Gigi, ur#140…..

I’m sure your sources got that kinda mixed up with, “physical therapy.”

  146. mctruck May 4, 2011 2:45 pm

    just simple, on-hands-training.

  147. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 2:54 pm

$47K is steep. Probably more for a Masters in physical therapy.

Daughter is at UHM right now, and has been getting grants and scholarships. Recently, she got word she was awarded another grant, worth $4k.

  148. bigislandkurt May 4, 2011 2:56 pm

OK, so what’s the run-down on Higgins as a QB? Think he’ll compete? Or is he cool with competing at another position?

I’m guessing Graves and Spain will be the QB’s of the foreseeable future. I must say this though — that greyshirt coming in January via Carson, CA — Justin Alo. He’s gonna be special. I would not be surprised to see him pull a Moniz-like assention up the QB depth chart. The quicker we can get him here, the better.

    BIK

  149. bigislandkurt May 4, 2011 2:58 pm

Semester’s about to end — Summer will be here sooner than we think. Any word on which incoming recruits will be coming in to take part in Summer session? I especially want to see the JUCO players be here this summer. They might be the ones to make the most immediate impact.

    BIK

  150. NCAA May 4, 2011 3:03 pm

$47k probably includes the cost of housing, food, expenses and other miscellaneous survival items.

  151. NCAA May 4, 2011 3:05 pm

    Google is your friend.

PS offers a DPT program. http://www.pugetsound.edu/admission/financing-your-education/graduate-students/tuition-fees/physical-therapy/

  153. Okole Maluna May 4, 2011 3:45 pm

Just logged on my 2 cents to :

#107 gigi : I would rather go Puget Sound a nicer place but

Like Pauoa Boy says on #114 unless you like skiing or golfing Utah is boring, but of course she going to study well …

    Came up on interesting Listing:http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=396421

This list is not current and I’m sure PS moved up?

But like truthseeker says few lines down… it’s not the school but an individual that makes the difference.

Good Luck to your daugther gigi-

  154. Okole Maluna May 4, 2011 3:53 pm

My nephew got a degree in Physical Therapy

We hardly get to see him now. He has no weekend or nights… Very busy with school sports activities…

17 years between brother and sister?… hmm… had vasectomy after the first surprise but due to complications had procedure reversed 16 years later and tested it out — once. ….. Using that second marriage theory… second marriage to the same woman? Goes along with that saying we are often taught.. “If at first you don’t succeed… try, try again.”

Met Promise Amadi when he was here on his visit. Looking forward to seeing him at practice.

  165. Slugger May 4, 2011 5:35 pm

Guess I should qualify that…met Promise when he was walking to campus with Tank. Stopped to talk to Tank and asked Promise what his name was. That’s about it.

  168. Dennis Halloran May 4, 2011 5:47 pm

Gigi, my hobby is finding colleges that fit

UPS is a great choice if she gets a package financially

Stationed there in the army and loved it

PT is a five year program so it costs more

    Don’t overlook Cal State LB

but i”d go to Utah First

Sister went to U of U and loved it

Stayed and was the first woman on the Ski Patrol and is now the executive Pastry Chef at Deer Valley

If you want your lady to return to the islands, send her to Texas

  169. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 5:54 pm

Daughter told me Utah starts in May, so that’s out.

She wants to attend UPS and is aware of their 3 year tuition schedule.

Hope she achieves her dream! She will be the 2nd person in our family to get her Masters, hubby being the first with an MBA.

  170. d1shima May 4, 2011 5:55 pm

    koakane,

Kalilua looking good. Should be a good one tomorrow.

  171. Dennis Halloran May 4, 2011 5:55 pm

Gigi, If she is not totally sold on PT but is health oriented, try a Health sciences major at Oregon Tech

  172. Dennis Halloran May 4, 2011 5:58 pm

Gigi Is she aware of WUE

  173. d1shima May 4, 2011 5:58 pm

I believe PT is a big growth industry.

  174. kalani May 4, 2011 6:00 pm

#148 BIK: More interested in seeing Shutter over Graves and Higgins over Spain…then we have local QBs for six straight years.

  175. hilobilly May 4, 2011 6:03 pm

    Gigi, your #140…

Why you would make such a statement (lol???) is beyond me. My daughter is a 2005 UPS grad, was challenged by the curriculum & expectations, well-prepared by the college & her own ambition, & loved Tacoma (well, most of it anyway). We made whatever financial adjustments to assist her because we believed in the school & program. Dr. George Mills, Jr, Punahou grad, is the school’s director of admissions. Our daughter moved home 2 years ago and has an excellent administrative position w/ KS on Oahu.

You know, the uninformed are always making comments about how UHM is party school central, but like anything else, it’s what you make of it. UH’s engineering, architecture, and business schools, for example, are tough, the unmotivated need not apply. Same w/ UPS…..their PT grad program is very well-recognized, which is why that dept is also really competitive.

    Just my 2 cents…

  176. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 6:12 pm

Daughter is majoring in Kinesiology and has 1 more year to go at UHM. Just 3 more classes, but 2 of them are sequential so she has to stay for a whole year!

She plans to take the GRE in July and will have her score sent to 5 grad schools, UPS being one of them.

  177. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 6:14 pm

What is WUE? Is that a program that allows Hawaii students to pay tuition comparable to UH’s? I believe it is in-state tuition as opposed to out of state tuition.

  178. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 6:17 pm

When I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago, I told a nurse that daughter wanted to go into PT because the pay started at $60K.

The nurse told me, “Well, starting pay for nurses at Straub is $65K.”

    I was amazed.

  179. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 6:20 pm

Her bf who is an electrician told me electricians make $40/hour.

multiply that by 2,000 hrs = $80,000 annually.

  181. d1shima May 4, 2011 6:21 pm

    WUE–

    Western Undergraduate Exchange program

  184. BleedGreen808 May 4, 2011 6:25 pm

I was on it. It’s not the same tuition as an in-state student would receive nor out-of-state. I would say it’s in between. The college would need to participate in the program to receive such waiver.

  185. d1shima May 4, 2011 6:26 pm

150% of in-state. Public universities. UPS is private

  186. hubby May 4, 2011 6:28 pm

Hilo Billy is a respected staff member of KS Hilo. I would not advise making ‘flip’ remarks about an institution of higher learning that you are not aware of.

He has the utmost respect for the Oahu Tsaiko’s. We spent some time discussing the unique personalities on this blog. Show him some of that respect in return…please.

  189. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 7:05 pm

Just read a Yahoo article which listed the States with the worst roads in the nation. Not surprised that Hawaii came in 6th. Wouldn’t have been surprised it it came in even worst; Oh the potholes Hawaii drivers have to put up with! Actually just came beck from a trip to California in which I drove a couple of thousand miles. Was surprised the state did not make the top ten. It too has some pot-holey roads.

  192. Shoko May 4, 2011 7:30 pm

Not much to share before I go sleep. But here is some information I got from another blog. Thought I would share…

“The women’s rules committee is recommending moving the 3-point line back one foot to 20 feet, 9 inches, beginning next season. That is the same distance the men have used since the 2008-09 season.”

“On the men’s side, the rules committee recommended a restricted area arc three feet from the center of basket where a secondary defender cannot legally take a charge. The arc would be marked in the lane and the change would take effect next season if approved.”

On another note, my sister majored in PT at Boston University. I told her seek employment with a professional sports team. She said no thanks. Long story short, I make more money than her…lol!

  193. Garret May 4, 2011 7:31 pm

You can just ask Momo if you want an example of how a family can have kids 17 years apart…parents like his with *19* kids will have a big gap in ages of the oldest and youngest kids!

  194. Garret May 4, 2011 7:31 pm

ESPN will spend $13 mil to create a TV studio on the UT campus, $15 mil per year (increasing 3% annually) for TV production, and $11 mil per year (increasing 4% annually) for overhead to broadcast the 24-hour Longhorn sports channel…but ESPN will not control the broadcast, Texas gets the right to fire anyone that that they feel isn’t doing a good job on the TV broadcasts. In other words, I doubt that we’ll hear a critical word on the Texas sports channel…

Screecher #1 has been researching colleges for her College & Career class. Found out Univ of Spoiled Children is only a few thousand $ more (total expenses) than UCLA or Berkeley for out-of-state students. Yikes!

Watching “Hobo with a Shotgun” on HDNMV. Weird movie. Wouldn’t pay to see this in the theaters.

  197. gigi-hawaii May 4, 2011 7:50 pm

UCLA Medical School is top notch. A friend graduated from Stanford and couldn’t get into UCLA Med School. He ended up at NYU Med School and is now a dermatologist in Hawaii.

On this day (May 4) in the first year (2007) of The Warrior Beat blog … count is 634 comments… following the explosion of 622 comments when Tsai-ko “critical mass” was suddenly attained the day before. But this day was in reaction to Colt Brennan’s video discussing UH facilities and conditions.

Everyone supports Colt so said similar things, but many new bloggers (17) join in and long-absent bloggers reappear in support. This day features ST… until Maryann joins in after midnight. 🙂

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

Pocho is correct that the AD kept referring to his six years here.

    Know what’s weird/funny?

Brennan never specifically pointed a finger at the athletic department administration, and yet those officials are the ones responding. If McNamara didn’t respond on Leahey and Leahey, the blame could have placed on Upper Campus. First rule of law: Never confess until you know the DA’s argument.

On the L&L show, I said I wasn’t sure if all of this could be blamed on the AD. Hey, give the guy a little wiggle room.

Then his marketing guy calls in and, oh, well.

People, people. Silence is one of your rights.

    05/04/07 @ 12:22

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

Hey, just had an interesting conversation with the AD.

It ended with him saying he never reads the blog but he hears my comments are personal.

I asked how he knows if they’re personal if he doesn’t read the blog.

    05/04/07 @ 14:30

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

It wasn’t a warm-and-fuzzy conversation. I think we both agreed we don’t trust each other.

    05/04/07 @ 14:53

    <bComment from: Stephen [Member]

It was interesting talking to the AD today.

I had to ask him questions about a story he claimed not to have read.

He accused me of making personal attacks on a blog he claims not to read.

His people are going to meet our people. I said I wanted the meeting within two weeks. He said the meeting will be within two weeks.

    It’s scheduled in three weeks.

    Sigh.

    05/04/07 @ 19:23

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

    Re: Meeting with the principal.

OK, this is the deal. The AD isn’t the most available person. We have a question, usually an associate calls back. Another question, people authorized to speak for the AD answer. After a few years it’s like we learned to do without someone’s comments.

So the boss asks (politely) can you get a commnet from the AD. I put in the request (after turning down a substitute official). He calls, although he’s got two others listening in and I’ve got my trusty tape recorder. I explain we both have trust issues. I suggest we get together. He says he wants to meet, but with my editors in attendance. We’re like, cool, our editors like us.

Let’s get to the really big news.

Somehow Rich2176 is making it possible so that Jennifer Love Hewett will call Robert Kekaula.

I was catching up on the blog tonite and saw many new names.

Mr.Tsai must be happy with all his new friends!

I enjoyed all the discussions about food yesterday.

When I visit Hawaii, I hope SteveM will take me to one of your quaint little island drive-inns during our date!

kinda late for you aint it? or are you an early riser? or are you really from, but here in hawaii? or somewhere else? or…wassup?

Comment from: maryann from maryland [Visitor]

    Helo Haka,

I am a insomniac and have not slept since Nixon was president.

thank you for your curiosty about me, but I’m saving myself for SteveM.

Just in case things don’t work out with SteveM, here are my vitals,

    I’m 6’1 (6’7 in heels)

Weigh between 210 to 278 (it’s only water)

Wear a size 16 shoe (right foot only, have a peg leg on left)

Right now I have only my three front teeth (uppers) but will trade my truck to the local taxidermist for some ‘possum teeth to fill out my lower side.

    05/05/07 @ 01:06

Comment from: maryann from maryland [Visitor]

I really don’t understand what the big deal with soap is about.

I mean you people in Hawaii act like you bathe almost everyday!

I personally am the hygiene princess of our household.

I never miss a bath! Never!

It deosn’t matter if it’s cold or warm, I always bathe monthly, in fact, for senior prom, I took a shower twice in June.

But back to the subject of soap, if we had it, we had it, if not, we just scooped a big glop of crisco and used that.

Sure made the skin feel soft and the dogs loved you.

    05/05/07 @ 01:18

Comment from: maryann from maryland [Visitor]

    Now I’m nostalgic.

    Talking about my senior prom.

Never, ever thought that I would finish fifth grade!

Graduation was on my birthday, that diploma was the bestest present I received on my 23rd birthday!

Funny guy named Herman was my date, funny because he was late for everything and blamed everyone else for his tardiness.

Blamed his Mama, Pa, the dogs, even blamed me!

Plus, he was always disapearing for days at a time, his Ma and the school teacher were always looking for him as he never completed his chores or school work.

Whenever he was caught, he would mumble and stutter and blame the newspaper (don’t know why).

Boy that Herman, he was like the Forrest Gump of our town!

He had that vacant stare, but sure could run fast.

I heard he went to college out west, I’m pretty sure he is a success somewhere.

    05/05/07 @ 01:35

    SteveM,

So did you ever date Maryann? I would guess not as you’re still alive!

  206. SteveM May 4, 2011 9:33 pm

Curt — no, never saw her in person. Last I heard, she got involved with Jason (she tempted him with her cookies). Gotta ask Jason unless she shows up again.

  207. Curt May 4, 2011 9:39 pm

I can imagine Maryann saying “Come zee here Jason babeee. Come and eet my cookees.”

  208. Curt May 4, 2011 9:47 pm

Personally, I’ve never dated someone who wore size 16 shoes, took a bath only once a month, or had possum teeth. Wow–that’s hot!? You really missed out SteveM. 😉

    Curt – it’s ur lucky day. I’m all dat u neva had…yet. 🙂

  210. Curt May 4, 2011 9:55 pm

From what I read above, I guess the only bad thing is that she likes to smear crisco all over. What guy would want that?

  211. Curt May 4, 2011 9:57 pm

Oh oh. Hi Koa-mahu. I feel my migraine coming back. I gotta go now.

  212. Koa-mahu May 4, 2011 10:16 pm

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

After June 21, 2010 Marriott ended selling timeshares; Marriott no longer sells a single timeshare in the usa! On June 21 Marriott joined their Ritz-Carlton division and have become their second Destination Club (DC). Don’t know what a DC happens to be; well it really is an upscale adaptation of a timeshare. Marriott can now deal with your complete vacation starting from the time you exit your front door until the moment you return. The Marriott DC markets Vacation Points you just turn in to be able to book villas at their 40 resorts around the globe. If you own Marriott weeks now (timeshares) you’ll be able to enroll them, for a fee, to the new DC; you still own them and may also make use of them the previous approach yet they can be redeemed for Points with the DC. I must show my respect for your kindness in support of those individuals that need guidance on this important content. Your special commitment to getting the solution all-around has been definitely important and have without exception allowed people like me to attain their aims. Your warm and helpful key points can mean a whole lot a person like me and much more to my office colleagues. Thanks a lot; from each one of us.
