Of all of the championships in sports, the Super Bowl is the fairest one of all.
Unlike the NBA, NHL and major leagues, the NFL’s title is decided in a one-game showdown on a neutral site. There’s no home-field advantage, and certainly no change in the post-season format, like the NBA going from 2-2-1-1-1 series to 2-3-2 for the final round.
Sure. the NCAA has fine tournaments and neutral-site championships, but their participations are based, significantly, on rankings and selection committees. The NFL has a system where the salary cap and draft promote parity, and a schedule in which the power teams in every division play the same non-division opponents.
It’s not perfect, but the NFL’s format is the best compared to the rest. Now, if only college football could find a more equitable format.
