Sunday ramblings

Just thinking . . .

• If UH won’t schedule a 13th game, how about a battle of the bands?

• If I read one more story about the UH athletic department’s financial woes, I might stick a fork in my eye. Or better yet, how about taking a stab at this: Forgive the deficit. The accumulated deficit of about $10 million is covered from a fund built on contributions from various campus departments. Consider it to be like a credit union. So, yes, it’s other people’s money. Real money. The reality is the IOU is just too much. Let’s say the athletic department has an extremely good year and turns a $2 million profit. That still leaves $8 million on the loan. The chances of the department having that great a year, in this economy, isn’t very good. Five consecutive great years and, well, you can figure those odds. So write it off as a fool-me-once lesson and give the athletic department a bad credit rating. And after that, if it operates at a loss, let it sell off furniture or Sugar Bowl rings. Besides, the athletic department helps out enough by relinquishing parking money and providing a market that allows the school to sell H merchandise. What other choice is there? It’s not like Upper Campus can foreclose on the tennis team.

• All the momentum the basketball Rainbows built with the upset of Idaho is out the door, along with the seniors and the three recent departures. With every divorce, there’s enough blame to share. Everyone is entitled to a mulligan. The second chance begins now.

• If Tavita Woodard remains at tight end, then the defense needs to give back Craig Cofer. The offense can’t be taking away two defensive ends.

• Every time it is suggested that UH have a fund-raising concert or movie night in the Stan Sheriff Center, somebody always douses the idea, citing traffic concerns and a deal with the City that nobody can quite figure out. To that, there is a two-word rebuttal: Dalai Lama. Tibet’s spiritual leader spoke to a packed Sheriff Center at roughly the same time as a softball doubleheader was being played. Anything is possible.

    Aiyah! Hang in there ST.

  2. A-joe April 15, 2012 2:03 am

The athletic department as well as the overall UH system ballooned under Dobelle’s tenure. What did he add that is so critical UH’s survial? Can those additions be removed? Positions, raises, etc… Can we go back to “pre Dobelle” and still function?

  4. BigWave96744 April 15, 2012 2:05 am

I still say the lost 7th game this fall will really hurt the money department

  5. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 2:07 am

I just think this deficit stunts growth and spending.

Suppose you borrow $100 from a friend, but you don’t have the money to pay him back. You can never eat out or buy anything more than essentials because your friend will wonder: If you can’t pay me, how can you buy things?

Now imagine the $100 is $10 million.

  6. BigWave96744 April 15, 2012 2:08 am

Stephen, if Ionatana Woodard gets cleared, will he play TE (his primary position at McKinley) or will they give him a look at DE, like his Twin? If I recall, though they are Twins, Tavita was a tad bit bigger

  7. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 2:09 am

    BigWest:

I agree. UH should play a seventh game, even if it’s against a second FCS team and won’t count toward a bowl. First, you can earn some pocket change. But seconds, you can’t take away tail-gating opportunities for fans.

  8. A-joe April 15, 2012 2:10 am

Did someone from Dalai Lama’s detail inform him of the baseball game over at Les? Shame if they didn’t. He’s a huge fan of the sport.

  10. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 2:10 am

Chow indicated Tana would be a tight end.

This is supposed to be a temporary move with Woodard, but he keeps finding a white jersey in his locker.

There was a story this past week that bids came in higher than the $10 million UH has allotted for the project. It will move forward, but with some downsizing. Not much that can be done when the costs are greater than the funds.

  16. BigWave96744 April 15, 2012 2:18 am

    Stephen,

I mentioned this on SportsHawaii a few weeks ago regarding a 7th game.

    *****************************************************************

How’s about the Citadel? They have Oct 20th open.

We could make it Military Appreciate Night.

Show your Military ID and get in for $10, any seat available..

Eh, no ack and laugh. NCState is playing them AND another FCS team..

    *****************************************************************

In fact a few BigEast teams are playing 2 FCS teams, on an 11 game schedule.

With ChowTime a hot item, fans want to see the team play, even if it’s a 7th game.

With the 12 game schedule they have to win 6 games to go to the HI Bowl.

Some roll their eyes at a 7th game vs an FCS team saying we now have to win 7 games.

Really? Being afraid to play an FCS team because they may spoil your bowl bid?

You know what Bu Laia would say, “Ah come on!!!”

  17. A-joe April 15, 2012 2:19 am

Chow’s more concern with the development of the offense. We’re loaded with bodies on Defense.

    poof, I’m out!

  19. madeinhawaii April 15, 2012 2:23 am

So sad that it took so long to put the project out for bid. That has to play a pretty big part in the higher than expected bids. Or did they just keep piling onto the wish list and got too greedy for their own good?

Back to the drawing board can’t help the situation, I’m sure. Inflation isn’t patient or pretty.

  20. A-joe April 15, 2012 2:27 am

I’m not concern with the lack of an extra game. Quite honestly, it wont make a difference. No matter how much doom and gloom may arise because of the lack of one game, someone will figure out how to fudge the numbers. It’ll work itself out. It always does.

I promise you this- there will be a 2013 season. That is of course if the Mayans have a say in it…

  21. madeinhawaii April 15, 2012 2:27 am

I take it that number 20 was a walk on, too? How many walk ons are still on the team from this year’s try out?

  22. A-joe April 15, 2012 2:30 am

ST- can you get a copy of the bids submitted?

  23. A-joe April 15, 2012 2:33 am

Or at least a copy of the bid proposal and post it here. We can run it past a few Tsaiko contractors and see what kind of figures they can come up with.

I think the way to think about the accumulated deficit is that it isn’t a loan at all.

The AD is part of the University. University officials, both Frazier and his bosses in the Upper Campus, concocted budgets that were unrealistic and under-funded by the U in comparison to UH’s peers in the WAC. That deficit is money that UH SHOULD have kicked into the pot and ended up doing so anyway. Remember, the AD runs an operating deficit every year, and as a collegiate program – SHOULD BE EXPECTED to run an operating deficit for all sports but football, MBB and a few others. Why does a university expect to MAKE money on an athletic program, except in the happy accident that its FB, MBB and a few other programs make so much money as to make up for the others?

I think JD has gotten his budgets to be a lot more realistic than his predecessor. Like ST, I think UH needs to write off the accumulated deficit, because the AD is NOT a business.

We could print tshirts with a picture of ST (caricature) with a fork in his eye! I think we’d get a lot of sympathy honks! Collect donations with fishnets or FB helmets for the athletic program … Ok, I know, it’s just Sunday Ramblings …

  41. kapakahi April 15, 2012 6:19 am

JMHO that the ideal scenario would be for Tana to get cleared and play TE to allow twin bro Tavita to move back to DE….and keep Cofer at TE.

Just from watching practice….both this spring and last season, JMHO that Cofer looks way more natural playing TE….compared to playing DE.

BTW from what I’ve observed, Lolotai has been a pleasant surprise at TE too. Definitely a more natural position for Waylon at TE….than compared to OT….or even DE. Probably the best blocker among the TEs.

JMHO that Evans hasn’t displayed a whole lot thus far. Just not real physical, explosive or athletic thus far….but with good hands….like a former QB.

  42. el burro sabio April 15, 2012 6:23 am

Once the AD asks for more support or for the loan to be written off, he invites more people who don’t have a clue about athletics to stick their noses in where it doesn’t belong.

They should have a 13th game and bring Grambling and their marching band back to the islands…If anything, for the fans enjoyment! If not, there were other team (Texas Southern) from Gramblings conference which also had very rousing marching bands. Drum-line style!!!

  50. 808Bowler April 15, 2012 7:19 am

  53. kapakahi April 15, 2012 7:32 am

Angel – Yankee game starts at 2 pm HST….so that you can still catch the end of the 1st game of the UH doubleheader.

  54. kapakahi April 15, 2012 7:34 am

    BIK,

There’s probably a pretty good reason that the Colorado coaching staff moved Evans from QB to TE.

  55. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 7:36 am

Evans will be fine. He mostly the F receiver. He’ll get open once the offense starts to gel.

  56. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 7:43 am

I remember when Davone Bess used to play pick-up basketball, everyone referred to him as the Dwyane Wade of Manoa. I think UH would settle for the next Mario Chalmers of Manoa.

  57. bigislandkurt April 15, 2012 7:43 am

TSU from Houston got a band, but not anything as legendary as Southern’s from Baton Rouge. I’ve always been calling for UH to schedule a game with an HBCU — Historically Black College and University. There are some really good ones out there to choose from. But if we’re purely talking about bands, I’d personally want to see Florida A&M, Jackson State (Mississippi), Grambling or Southern. I went to the Bayou Classic in 1991. What an amazing experience that was. Jackson State, Southern, Grambling, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Bethune-Cookman, Morehouse, Savanna State, Bowie State, Alcorn State, Mississippi Valley State, Fayettevelle state, South Carolina State, Prairie View A&M, Hampton, Norfolk State….all HBCU’s, FCS, and play good football. Would be nice to see them at Aloha Stadium one of these years.

    BIK

  58. mo808 April 15, 2012 7:48 am

“Drum-line” …now that would diffinitely be a band battle to see and raise funds for UH too!

  59. HawaiiMongoose April 15, 2012 7:48 am

IIRC, only one win against an FCS opponent can be counted toward bowl eligibility. So if UH added a second FCS school to the schedule as the 13th game, it would need 7 wins instead of 6 wins to become bowl eligible, BUT a win against that second FCS school could not be counted towards the 7.

  60. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 7:53 am

I realize you can only count one FCS, but all that means is the Warriors need to go 7-5 against the rest of the schedule. That should be a reasonable goal. It’s not like this was an 0-13 team last year. There’s talent.

  61. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 7:54 am

I also think they should schedule Notre Dame because playing Notre Dame in the regular season is more attractive than facing a C-USA team in the postseason.

  62. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 7:59 am

Why does UH Football not get all the revenue from the food concessions at the stadium?

Why does UH Football not get all the revenue from the parking at the stadium?

Why does UH Football not get all the revenue from advertising at the stadium?

Why does UH Football not get all the revenue from the sale of merchandise at the games?

Why does Uh Football have a deficit? Heck, I am amazed they can even afford airfare to the mainland games.

Who is siphoning all that money away?

  63. kapakahi April 15, 2012 8:12 am

#63, Bringing Manti back home….along with other local boyz Roby Toma and Kona Schwenke….would definitely boost the home crowd attendance….definitely amongst the Punahou and North Shore contingent….for a game against the Golden Domers.

AND that’s not even counting profit that would enjoyed by the local merchandisers with their bootleg #5 ND jerseys that would be for sale.

  65. kapakahi April 15, 2012 8:25 am

    #64,

Why would UH Football be expected to get all the revenue from the food concessions at the stadium?…..when UH Athletics doesn’t even get all the revenue from the food concession sales at its own on-campus Lower Campus sporting venues.

Why would UH Football be expected to get all the revenue from the parking at the stadium?….when UH Athletics doesn’t even get all the revenue from parking on the Lower Campus during sporting events.

Why would UH Football be expected to get all the revenue from the sale of merchandise at the games?….when UH Athletics doesn’t even get all the revenues from sale of merchandise from its own Rainbowtique stores?…even the one located in the Stan Sheriff Center….which all fall under the UH Bookstore.

JMHO that the UH (Upper Campus and Lower Campus) needs to sort out it’s own internal revenue distribution and record keeping problems….before focusing on working out it’s perceived revenue problems with Aloha Stadium.

Can UH eliminate the middle man in securing flights or travel plans? Seems like everything could be done on the internet or a direct phone call. We hire somebody at UH, to hire somebody outside, to make those arrangements.

  69. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 8:35 am

Kapakahi, by saying that you don’t think they should get the revenue because it doesn’t happen at other places, is that sarcasm? Or do you have a real reason that they shouldn’t get the revenues from the money generated at their games?

  70. papajoe2 April 15, 2012 8:36 am

We played Grambling in the 70s and got our butts kicked. The band was something that should be seen by everybody though. I think they also had a seperate day concert or marching band festivital though. One UH All-American football player said they always had a big guy running through the hole blocking for another big guy with the ball.

  71. Kevin April 15, 2012 8:47 am

Dunno how I am awake at this time… but the Relay for Life was chicken-skin.

The ENTIRE softball team was out there after a QUICK bite following their double-header and after cheering Kelly Majam on in the SURVIVOR’S WALK, the softball team LED THE WAY to kick off the 2012 Relay for Life.

Quite symbolic if you ask me… the SCHOOL’S TOP SPRING PROGRAM THIS YEAR IN THEIR RESPECTIVE SPORT LEADING THE WAY WITH THEIR OWN CANCER SURVIVOR.

  73. tommui April 15, 2012 8:48 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

I think Kapakahi is being sarcastic – we don’t get the revenues as stated because some _()&*(^% in the Administration (both UH and State) has decided it should be the Bookstore or the Stadium Authority. But since when does anything they do have to have a rational basis?

  74. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 8:48 am

I always felt UH is more entitled to parking/advertising revenue at Aloha Stadium because it’s providing the event.

By the way, UH does get revenue from parking, concessions and merchandise at on-campus events. The bulk doesn’t go to the athletic department, but the school benefits. That’s why I feel the athletic department spurs enough revenue for the school it should receive a break on the deficit.

  75. mo808 April 15, 2012 8:51 am

@68 ST thanks…the band is awesome! But boy, their cheerleaders move way too provocatively! @68 Cheerteam was sweet…what a contrast!

  76. Kevin April 15, 2012 8:51 am

Before I left around 1pm, freshman 3rd baseman Keiko Sugihara was IMPRESSIVE at the relay.

At that time she already completed over 40 laps, most of them actually RUNNING too!!!

Great job by Senior Dara Pagaduan, leading the way for Team “UH Manoa Softball”. Coaching and support staff were in on the action as well.

    ===

We were next to the Rainbow Wahine Basketball team and their boosters tent, and nice to see new HC Laura Beeman and assistant coach Mary Wooley there with the team. More “bonding time”.

Also over the LaTech series, Coach Beeman and Wooley and Petersen were at the softball stadium supporting the team.

  79. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 8:58 am

ST, I understand your feeling of getting a break on the deficit and your borrowing $100 scenario. Isn’t this more appropriate.

Lets say I own a strip mall in town. You rent out a space to sell shoes. You don’t get the revenue from the cash register. I run your store and give you a small cut at the end. Ten years from now you are in debt to me from the rent I charge you. I tell you “don’t worry Stephen, I will cancel your debt this year”.

It won’t fix the problem. It just makes us both feel better until rent is due again.

  82. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 9:03 am

I am all for UH football putting money back into the UH system. But it should be that the football program gets all the revenue from its program and if there is a surplus then they can distribute. At least then we can see who is making money and how to make more. and who is losing money and how we can clean that up.

  83. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 9:03 am

Who is it in administration that is in charge of making the decision to stream revenue away from football?

Or more importantly who in UH admin can fix the problem?

    Good analogy. Thanks

The original point of my post was that until the IOU is paid, all we’re going to hear about is the deficit. To me, the deficit isn’t an issue unless they can’t pay the light bill or assistant coaches are canned to make payroll. Hey, people don’t care about the cost of paper or ink. They just want the paper on their doorstep (or a relatively close bush) before leaving for work.

    #71,

    No sarcasm intended.

Just saying that the revenue problems affecting UH Athletics are largely internal (i.e., within UH…between Upper Campus and Lower Campus record keeping & accounting)….and not so much external (like Aloha Stadium).

BUT since the Lower Campus (i.e., Athletic Administration) is subordinate to and reports to the Upper Campus (i.e., Bachman Hall – Board of Regents, President, Chancellor), the UH financial balance sheets have always favored the Upper Campus perspective (which includes the UH Bookstore administration) over the Lower Campus needs.

Not saying that UH Athletics doesn’t deserve to keep more (but probably not all) of the generated revenue. Just saying that it’s always too easier and more convenient to focus blame on money problems on others (like Aloha Stadium) than to fix the problems internally at UH first.

Case in point (while not money-related), problem with original construction project for UH Softball Stadium were made widely known by both UH Upper Campus and Lower Campus officials to the general public (when the construction project was being managed by other non-UH agencies)…..BUT all the internal Lower Campus problems under former AD HF were kept largely hush-hush internally by UH and became out publicly known only after JJ left unexpectedly.

JMHO that it would definitely set a good example IF the UH (Upper Campus and Lower Campus) would sort out it’s own internal revenue distribution and record keeping problems….then they could then focus on working out any perceived revenue problems with Aloha Stadium. This way the Aloha Stadium Authority might be more receptive to any UH proposed increases to their cut of the revenue.

Just saying….that UH should lead by example….by correcting its own internal revenue distribution and accounting problems…..which is definitely NOT in favor of UH Athletics and Football….before expecting revenue increases externally (with Aloha Stadium).

  94. Kevin April 15, 2012 9:20 am

Maybe Oceanic could set the scheduling for the completion of the lights as a priority.

They seem to jump on the opportunity around a nationally-ranked team as evident by the sudden change to cover the LaTech DH on TV.

  95. Kevin April 15, 2012 9:21 am

Seems like the original problem with the softball stadium’s original construction was that…

    It was a softball stadium.

  96. mo808 April 15, 2012 9:22 am

  97. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 9:23 am

I think doubleheaders make the most sense for Oceanic, especially with the mercy rule.

That’s a lot of extra time to kill if UH knocks out a team in under an hour.

  98. d1shima April 15, 2012 9:24 am

Does Maryland have a western shore? A Jersey Shore? A shored up fence?

    Let me ashore you….

  99. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 9:25 am

My paper used to be by my mailbox which means I have to walk to the curb around the puakinini tree and across my driveway, it was closer to my neighbors front door than mine. I asked the paper guy to throw it in my front yard instead. But I guess he didn’t remember. So after another month went by and my neighbors seeing me in my boxers one too many times I made a sign on an old piece of card board that said “Throw newspaper here”. Then I watched thru the window when he came that morn (it was the first time I ever saw his car stop to throw throw the paper).

Now my neighbors don’t get to see me in my boxers (as much).

  100. Kevin April 15, 2012 9:26 am

    Parking shall be your adventure…

(just setting the mood for the honoured guest at the SSC)

  104. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 9:35 am

ST, I understand what you were trying to say. And I do agree that it really does look bad. But I just have a hard time trying to figure out why the core of the problem (money distribution) is even a problem in the first place. UH is the place where people go to get educated on finance, business, and basic education and they have this mess of finance and business.

  105. kapakahi April 15, 2012 9:38 am

BTW there is a significant difference between UH events held at on-campus facilities vice Aloha Stadium.

That difference is that UH covers all costs for operation as well as repair & maintenance (including construction projects) associated with its on-campus venues, whereas UH covers strictly the stadium operational cost for football events but contributes to the repair & maintenance (including construction projects) only through its shared revenue with the stadium (since UH no longer pays any rental charge).

To use the car rental analogy….UH is only paying for the actual gas used (without any surcharges)….but not the car rental fee.

That’s why there’s shared revenue between UH and the stadium to cover the other non-event related repair & maintenance costs that come into play.

29- Kekoa as a union member and one who has negotiated contracts in the past I resent that your comment. Things most often when both sides get pig headed and most often MANAGEMENT will refuse to give any type of reason for whatever change they want.

If you don’t want to drag it out in the blog. Don’t mention it in the blog. Period.

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Congrats again to Na Wahine and BaseBows!

FWIW, opinions from this clueless wahine…

➡ Has JD pointed out to Upper Campus and, to quote Coach Price, “da square building on S. Beretania” that only a handful of schools break even/make a profit from the AD? Those that do are blessed with a large donor base and HUGE tv contracts.

➡ Caveat to yesterday’s events, it’s more about the traffic jam getting in and out of the parking structure. Events yesterday were staggered, with the baseball/RFL crowd coming in after the SSC crowd left. Plus, since yesterday’s SSC event was mainly for HS & college students and many schools bussed their students to UH.

  115. kris April 15, 2012 10:23 am

    Good morning everyone!

  123. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 10:58 am

So the Board of Regents solely creates the cash flow route?

Are you saying that the law says that revenue from events at the stadium cannot go directly to football at a football event?

  124. Stephen Tsai April 15, 2012 11:13 am

    Will-I-Am

Shucks. Thought you’d agree with my bowling suggestion.

  125. kapakahi April 15, 2012 11:22 am

    #125,

YES….the UH Board of Regents approves the respective financial plans and annual reports for all campuses including the cash flow distribution and accounting within the UH Manoa system….including between Upper and Lower Campus.

NO….the law does NOT say that revenue from events at the stadium cannot go directly to football at a football event. However, the law does allow for the Stadium Authority to approve revenue distribution from events for the stadium. As such, JMHO that shared revenue will probably always be part of the deal with UH football games held at Aloha Stadium to help cover the stadium’s other non-event related repair & maintenance costs for the reasons stated in my earlier post #107.

  126. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 11:26 am

ST, I would agree with your bowling plan if bowling was full contact. Now that would be awesome!

  127. Will-I-Am April 15, 2012 11:29 am

lets say SF 49ers play a game at the stadium. Will the 49er gear and other concession revenue be distributed with the same “non-event related repair & maintenance” rules?

  128. kapakahi April 15, 2012 12:02 pm

    #129,

NO….just like the NFL hasn’t ever for the Pro Bowl games. BUT…that’s reality. It’s not like UH has the anywhere near the same leverage that the NFL has….to negotiate such a sweetheart deal.

The revenue sharing between UH and Aloha Stadium for these non-event related repair & maintenance costs is in lieu of the rental charge that other entities….like ILH and OIA….pay to hold their events at the stadium…..but that UH doesn’t pay.

Just like UH Athletics is being tasked to be self-sufficient and cover all its costs for operations as well as repair & maintenance costs associated with holding events at its on-campus venues, the Aloha Stadium is also being tasked to be self-sufficient and rely on stadium event revenues…not tax dollars….to sustain its operations.

While it’s true that UH football is the “only game in town”, there’s also only one practical venue to play these games….Aloha Stadium….currently and probably for at least another decade or so….especially IF rail proceeds forward.

If the stadium can’t sustain itself financially or otherwise, I’m pretty sure that UH Athletics wouldn’t be too interested in assuming all of the costs associated with operating, repairing and/or maintaining the stadium….like it does it’s on-campus facilities….until a new stadium could be planned, zoned, designed, funded, then built….in the next decade or so.

That’s why IMHO that shared revenue between UH and the Aloha Stadium will probably always be part of the deal with UH football games held at Aloha Stadium.

  129. d1shima April 15, 2012 12:02 pm

How much $ did the Stadium Authority get from the NFL for the souvenir sales at the Pro Bowl?

  137. BigWave96744 April 15, 2012 12:32 pm

I find it disturbing to keep getting snail mail from Nakoa and AKA saying how they need financial help.

Then reading in the Tiser on how deep in Kim chee the athletic dept is. Then on the same note I read how they are content with a 6 game home schedule and will not pursue a 7th game, when there are MANY BCS schools scheduling 2 FCS teams to so they can have 7th home game to help bring revenue into the pot.

Creative marketing can help get 30+ to watch a lesser known FCS team.

Even if the NET Profit margin is small, its still a profit…

And please no “We shouldn’t take them lightly” replies.

If fans of a DI mid major are afraid to lose to a FCS team at home, should they really be looking at their team as a Bowl Contender?

In considering a 7th home game or not, the Hawaii Bowl might be a factor.

How much does Hawaii make from participating in the Hawaii Bowl?

Now, this is “bird in hand” (7th game) versus the Hawaii Bowl “in the bush” scenario. I have never predicted the team’s upcoming year record and am certainly not going to start now– but it comes down to: will the need to win 7 games keep us out of the Hawaii bowl…or will it make make no difference?

But as ST pointed out, if we played only 12 games last year, we would have been in the Hawaii Bowl. What does your crystal ball say?

the only reason there is a “money deficit” problem with the UHAD is that none of the university leadership has the courage to step up and tell the taxpayers that it is unrealistic to expect the UHAD to “make money” as a whole and to point out that intangibles like brand awareness just don’t show up in the general ledger. There are shortsighted people, both in the public and in government and on campus, who don’t see the value of Div. 1 athletics, and the decision makers pander do those folks when they decide that athletics should “pay for itself”.

The phrase we keep hearing is that athletics needs to run more “like a business”. If UH Athletics were indeed a business, then they’d receive a bigger share of the revenue they generate and commissions on attendance increases and other revenue that can be traced back to the marketing effects of success on the playing field. That, or we can do as the blog host suggests and just end this nonsense of a $10 million “debt” hanging over the dept’s head.

    kekoa,

thanks for the offer but i would rather let things be. I too have had many experiences with horrible management with THA, SA, HAMI, HTH, to change my views. The higher they are, the bigger the lie, that has been my personal experience.

Its okay to agree to disagree.
