The first practice of spring training is Wednesday, but the Warriors will offer a sneak preview tomorrow.

“We’re going to have a mock practice,” linebacker George Daily-Lyles said of the workout organized entirely by the players. “We’re going to get the new guys introduced to the system, and how we do our stuff. It’ll be a nice voluntary practice. We’re going to make our own script, just like the coaches would. We’re going to time it, and have certain amount of plays for the 1s (starters) and 2s.”

Daily-Lyles said defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga is one of the seniors spearheading the workout.

“It’s ridiculous how much leadership we have from Vauhgn and other seniors and other underclassmen,” Daily-Lyles said. “This is going to make us stronger.”

Defensive lineman Josh Manupuna was one of the breakout stars of the 2010 spring training. But during the summer, Manupuna, who attended Portland State in 2008, learned he did not have enough transferrable credits. He did not play in 2010. Manupuna accumulated the necessary credits, rejoined the Warriors and will compete in spring training.

* * * * *

Running back Hogan Rosehill, who underwent ACL surgery in October, said he expects to be available for the final two weeks of spring training. Rosehill also projects to be an important member of special teams.

* * * * *

UH volleyball officials waited and waited and …

But, alas, Pepperdine did not show up for its scheduled practice at UH’s Gym II yesterday afternoon. Instead, the Waves practiced at Punahou School.

No coincidence. Punahou head coach Rick Tune started his collegiate career at UH but finished it at Pepperdine. And the state’s top volleyball prospect, Punahou’s Josh Taylor, has accepted a scholarship offer from the Waves. Taylor, a senior, is not playing high school volleyball this year.

* * * * * *

Yuval Katz, the newest member of the Circle of Honor, and his family left for Israel yesterday after spending two weeks in Hawaii. Tuesday, Katz stopped by the Warriors’ volleyball practice. UH associate head coach Dan Fisher (left) and Katz were UH teammates in the mid-1990s:

  15. wafan March 3, 2011 3:16 am

Kind of a stinky attitude by the choppy Waves to stiff UH and not give them a heads up.

    What happened to simple courtesy?

    I hope UH flattens them.

    Go VolleyBows!

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

  34. RainbowCliff March 3, 2011 7:50 am

    Good morning Tsaiko Nation !

Recovering from the rains last night here in Los Angeles. Cloudy

today and tomorrow as full sunshine won’t see until the weekend.

Kapahulu, glad you got the shirt. Wear it proudly as it is truly one

of a kind. Koamahu, thanks for the “braddah” acknowledgement as

that term I really enjoy hearing. Wafan and 808 Fringe I hope you

received your shirts as you two are the only ones left ?

Glad to hear that my main guy here at the post office can come through

ALL the time sending out the gift n kind items to you folks. Feel REAL

good when you can spread that ALOHA back to you good folks of Tsaiko Nation.

Al, received the box and I can’t thank you enough. Will share the items with Cedric.

Papajoe2 and Mr. A House appreciated your gifts to Mr. Washington as he

LOVED the chocolate macadamian nuts and the Warrior football shirts. Key chains

went to his girls and wife. Giving comes from the HEART and it is a true testament

to the spirit of CARING as it shows our COMPASSION that we have for one another

and it brings a SMILE to the soul of that person who really appreciates the kind gesture.

Mahalo to ALL of you for just having that spirit of ALOHA as it is a symbol of your

GREAT culture that is unique and the WEALTH it has goes a long way in bringing

smiles that are dear to the heart and WARMTH to the body and soul !

Tsaiko Nation, Thank you for your GREATNESS and have a WONDERFUL day !

  35. jojo ® March 3, 2011 7:58 am

    Happy Birthday Wreck!

  36. Dan-O March 3, 2011 8:13 am

Wow…..how tall is Dan Fisher? He looks almost a head taller than Yuval, who is 6’4 or 6’5?

  37. Stephen Tsai March 3, 2011 8:30 am

    Dan-0

Fisher said he’s a little taller than 6-6.

  38. Stephen Tsai March 3, 2011 8:31 am

So, Fisher introduces Yuval to the players, who didn’t quite know what to say.

Then it was figured out that most of the players were in preschool when Yuval played.

  39. TrojanMan March 3, 2011 8:32 am

Typical Rick Tune! What can I say! Where’s the Aloha coach.

    Go Warriors!

  40. al March 3, 2011 8:33 am

    rcliff…you welcome.

  41. al March 3, 2011 8:34 am

i can just hear it ringing in my ear as papa leahey would say after a yuval kill.

    KATZ!!!!

  42. Stephen Tsai March 3, 2011 8:37 am

Very clever. A site drops spam, then offers to sell spam protection.

Is that like when a guy walks into a small store, knocks things off the shelf and says: You want to pay me to protect your store?

  43. al March 3, 2011 8:40 am

the yuval katz era certainly were responsible for bringing men’s vb on to the map.

  44. kawika49 March 3, 2011 8:42 am

#42 would’nt that be TEEM (faux spam) rather than SPAM?

  45. d1shima March 3, 2011 8:43 am

    It all starts with Leadership.

Nice to hear that some are stepping it up on the team

  48. d1shima March 3, 2011 8:50 am

Good to hear that Hogan Rosehill has made lots of progress in his rehab. Sounds pretty quick for an ACL injury but I guess that’s the advancement of medicine….

  49. d1shima March 3, 2011 8:51 am

    Have a great day erryboddy!

  50. SteveM March 3, 2011 8:55 am

    Good morning everyone!

    RE: #42

ST — yes, but that bit of SPAM is also a “self-fulfilling prophesy” of sorts. IF the message can get through the firewall and spam filter and be seen, then it is profound. If it doesn’t get through, then nobody will know. 😐

  51. al March 3, 2011 8:56 am

happy birthday to betty, hina, and the wreck.

  52. Stephen Tsai March 3, 2011 8:58 am

    Somebody asked about Dustin Elisara.

Still on the team. But he’s been getting, uh, bigger. He’s now a down lineman.

  53. Da Punchbowl Kid March 3, 2011 9:19 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Happy Girls Day to all the Tsaikettes!

Happy birthday to Wreck, Betty & Hina! Wea u at Wreck?!

#42..ST…some friends of mine who owned “classrooms” on the Keeaumoku Campus, used to tell me about those “Insurance” salesmen who used to offer her business “insurance” against “rowdy students”. Much like your spam “protection” offer.

Anyhoo, got about 10 for a Kapolei CC. Awaiting some contact from Michigan Warrior as far as his schedule and availability. All are welcomed, big stomach, small stomach, kids etc. Will set reservations after more info. received.

Bust out da rain gear and canoes! Looks like lot of liquid sunshine this weekend.

Any Tsaikos in the Manoa area please post weather & staus report for the WSS event.

What did Elisara do? Eat a lot or worked on the weights? Hopefully, it’s not just fat, but a lot of muscle. I agree with Al, if he can keep the quickness and improve the techniques he might be hard to block. Let’s see what he does in spring practice.

  64. al March 3, 2011 9:46 am

  68. HawaiiMongoose March 3, 2011 9:57 am

Elisara is only 6′ 1” and he’s put on 50 pounds since high school? I’d like to think that’s “good” weight but if not… hard to believe he’ll be very effective on the line or at any other position.

  69. SteveM March 3, 2011 9:59 am

    Stephen Tsai:

I dunno….let me think about that a few nanoseconds. OK, I’m in.

Tell Esme to call me if the count is over 100.

  70. ai-eee-soos March 3, 2011 10:01 am

It was I, who asked about Dustin. I had hoped that he would not get too big (weight-wise).

If he could have kept his weight down and maintained his quickness, I had hoped that he could play at MLB – we need big guys back there.

Or, he could have played @ RB, and be the Reagan Mauai II. But, I guess he got too heavy.

Good Luck, Dustin. Tear it up this spring, and into the fall.

    52.Stephen Tsai:

  71. NCAA March 3, 2011 10:10 am

There are a lot of short DT’s in the NFL that are very effective. Vince Wilfork is 6’2″ and 325 lbs.

Hawaii is known for their short DT’s.

  72. hawaiiansun March 3, 2011 10:17 am

NMSU’s loss to Utah State last night, 58-54, kept Hawai’is hopes for a #4 seed in the WAC T mathematically alive.

Hawai’i must win their final 2-road gammes against SJSU and FSU to stay in contention. The #4 WACT seed draws a bye in the 4-day conference championship.

Both NMSU and Idaho are tied for third @ 8-7 with one game remaining. The vandals host FSU in their final regular season conference game while NMSU is at home against NEV.

BSU holds clinched place in the WAC with a 9-6 record and plays its final game at home vs SJSU.

  73. Stephen Tsai March 3, 2011 10:19 am

Wasni’t Elisara hurt last year? Could be injury weight.

I’m pretty sure Heffernan can get him in shape.

  74. hawaiiansun March 3, 2011 10:19 am

correction: BSU clinched second-place in the WAC with a 9-6 record and plays its final game at home vs SJSU.

Neil Everett gave the WAC love yesterday.

  78. BigIslandkurt March 3, 2011 10:28 am

If Elisera outgrew his high school body, so be it. If his future is on the dline, so be it. But in this day and age, fat and out of shape will not cut it at D1 level. Something tells me he must be ok if he’s still on the team.

    BIK

    BYU’s code of honor.

  80. hawaiiansun March 3, 2011 10:36 am

Warriors will be stacked with interior D linemen this year. To be meaningful we need a breakout year for about 4 in this prodigious group comprising the DT rotation– to raise the bar over last year. I believe it will happen. Im curious how much and in what manner, DC Dave Aranda will tweak his D to capitalize on this assest. Much to look forward to….potentially, it could be a ‘high-water mark year’ for our DL, not seen in the second millennium.

  81. RainbowCliff March 3, 2011 10:39 am

For the men’s basketball game tonight. Can any one of you Tsaiko sport scholars

  85. al March 3, 2011 10:45 am

bowwar…that’s an intriguing suggestion. he did tote the ball at kapolei on short yardage and was a good third down back, too.

he allegedly ran a 4.6 forty.

  86. NCAA March 3, 2011 10:45 am

Got this from searching last years blog topics:

And here are the projected “starting points” for defense:

Left end: Kamalu Umu, Elliott Purcell.

Left tackle: Vaughn Meatoga, Geordon Hanohano.

Right tackle: Kaniela Tuipulotu, Haku Correa.

Right end: Paipai Falemalu, Earvin Sione.

Strongside linebacker: Aaron Brown, Art Laurel.

Middle linebacker: Mana Lolotai, Jake Heun.

Weakside linebacker: Corey Paredes, Ahmad Pookela.

Left cornerback: Lametrius Davis, Kawika Ornellas/Tank Hopkins.

Strong safety: Spencer Smith, Kenny Estes.

Free safety: Mana Silva, Richard Torres.

Right cornerback: Jeramy Bryant, Lewis Walker.

Nickelback: Richard Torres, Spencer Smith, Lewis Walker.

  87. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 10:45 am

    Mr. al,

Are you saying his 4.6 time is questionable? Or was it reported he ran a 4.6 forty? Just looking for clarification.

  90. hawaiiansun March 3, 2011 10:51 am

BSU went out and recruited Leon Rice as their 7th head coach.

Rice joined the donks after spending the last 11 seasons on the coaching staff at Gonzaga. He had served as the associate head coach with the Bulldogs since 2007.

Select a good coach….and the rest follows.

  91. NCAA March 3, 2011 10:52 am

I had to google saltpeter but I still did not get what you mean in #94. 😕

  98. hawaiiansun March 3, 2011 11:20 am

The Strength Coordinator spends more time with the individual football players than their coaches. Not by choice, but rather, by NCAA design.

The SC can make or brake an athletes career.

Under Heffernan, if a football player is gaining undisciplined weight and is by measurement–out of shape–he aint goin to play. period!

  99. Pomai March 3, 2011 11:23 am

NorthShoreFan NCAA is to young to know about saltpeter……..

  101. Derek March 3, 2011 11:32 am

I doubt very much Elisara is running a 4.6 right now. If he can run a 4.8 as a defensive lineman that would be terrific, but at 275 that might be stretching. Being 6’1″ isn’t bad. He’s got some leverage by staying low. If he’s quick it would compensate for it also. Being a former linebacker and also a part-time running back you know he’s got some wheels. I hope he and the coaches can develop him into a good one.

  102. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 11:36 am

NCAA, salt peter used to be used to suppress the “appetite” of guys in prison.

$ for dingers is at how much now?

  106. Calvin from Kona March 3, 2011 12:42 pm

    Oh it will rain tomorrow

  107. Koa-mahu March 3, 2011 12:45 pm

    Hi Calvin!

  108. Koa-mahu March 3, 2011 12:46 pm

there’s always sunshine when you’re around.

  109. madeinhawaii March 3, 2011 12:47 pm

    Northshorefan…

Wha??? You and Pomai were cell mates? Aiyah!

  110. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 12:52 pm

109#…LOL…not cell mates but was next to each other!…and we did take our salt peter!

  111. NCAA March 3, 2011 12:58 pm

NFL and Player’s union going into overtime.

  112. al March 3, 2011 12:59 pm

nsf…it was myth that had it that salt peter was used in the armed forces and prisons. it would not have worked anyway.

    hahaha.

  113. al March 3, 2011 1:01 pm

i recall taking salt tablets issued by the football coaches. then one day the coaches jokingly said that your peter would malfunction by taking these. needless to say, most of the salt tablets ended up in the grass.

  114. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:02 pm

    Koa-mahu and saltpeter don’t mix.

  115. al March 3, 2011 1:02 pm

ncaa…would you like that with salt and pepper or gravy all over?

  116. al March 3, 2011 1:05 pm

#89…coming out of kapolei hs he allegedly ran a 4.6.

  117. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 1:05 pm

    well no wonder..neva mind

  118. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:11 pm

I’m more of a gravy guy.

  119. Calvin from Kona March 3, 2011 1:21 pm

Ok who is koa mahu and why does he always notice when I blog?

  120. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:21 pm

Seems like Kapolei has a lot of football players that allegedly have quality 40-yard times. For some reason it does not translate into OIA West Red Division championships.

  121. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 1:26 pm

Wow, friends daughter named West side first team goalie. Good Luck Kiana!

  122. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:26 pm

    Mr. Calvin from Kona,

Process of elimination, I’m not Koa-mahu. That’s one down and many to go.

  123. gigi-hawaii March 3, 2011 1:27 pm

koa-mahu = aka Las Vegas = aka a sumo who left Hawaii to work in Japan.

  124. gigi-hawaii March 3, 2011 1:29 pm

    Hi gang,

The vog has been killing me softly with a bad cough and nasal congestion. ugh!

Hope you all are in better health!

  125. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:30 pm

    Musashimaru? Akebono? Konishiki?

  126. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:32 pm

Bad cough and nasal congestion definitely doesn’t define softly. 😆

  127. gigi-hawaii March 3, 2011 1:34 pm

I believe Las Vegas-san’s sumo name started with a W.

  128. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 1:37 pm

    Warubozu?

  130. gigi-hawaii March 3, 2011 1:40 pm

A couple of years ago, Las Vegas emailed me a pic of himself as a 19 year old sumo in Japan. I posted it to my blog. At that time, he also revealed his sumo name on my blog in comments.

I’ll let LV tell you on the WB if he wants to. It’s his call.

  131. Bowwar March 3, 2011 1:42 pm

#85 Al: I also recall that Scout at the time rated Elisara as one of the best “fullback” in his graduating class…so, I was surprised the staff never consider using him as a running back versus linebacker.

  132. Da Punchbowl Kid March 3, 2011 1:42 pm

    #119 –

Becuz KM thinks ur hot! 😉

I’m not KM either so that rules NCAA and I out.

  133. al March 3, 2011 1:42 pm

    #123…is incorrect.

    …the mystery continues.

  134. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 1:43 pm

Wow, friends daughter named West side first team goalie. Good Luck Kiana!

Should be Kiana Kaiwi…SA = wrong spelling

  135. al March 3, 2011 1:43 pm

#132…are you sure? i had you as one of the leading candidates.

  136. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:44 pm

Not saying it’s hypocritical but first you tell who Koa-mahu is then you don’t say what his sumo name is? Babuzo. 😆

  137. al March 3, 2011 1:44 pm

bowwar…just goes to show how much those guys at scout.com really know.

  138. SteveM March 3, 2011 1:46 pm

gigi — what makes you think las vegas is Koa-Mahu? 🙂

I am not positive that the Koa Mahu of today is the original Koa Mahu from a few years back…there have been several imitators. I have a short suspect list, and las vegas isn’t one of them. But he has slipped by often in the past. 😆

  139. gigi-hawaii March 3, 2011 1:46 pm

Well, I can’t remember how his sumo name is spelled. But I believe it started with a W.

  140. NCAA March 3, 2011 1:49 pm

I can’t remember how accommodate is spelled but I know it starts with an “a”.

  141. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 1:50 pm

somewhere, Koa Mahu is having a good laff….

  142. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 1:51 pm

  146. al March 3, 2011 1:56 pm

some say that more than one person has posted as koa mahu. at times he/she is koamahu, koa-mahu, or koa mahu. it has been interesting to watch this personality grow over the years.

  165. gigi-hawaii March 3, 2011 4:10 pm

Okay, here’s the link to my blog entry about Las Vegas. His photo is on top:

    http://gigihawaii.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/las-vegas-the-blogger/

And his sumo name is in the post.

LV, if you are reading this, I know you won’t mind if fellow Tsaikos know more about you! Colorful history.

  166. gigi-hawaii March 3, 2011 4:18 pm

LV’s sumo name is mentioned by LizKauai in my blog comments.

  167. Carolynn Poggio March 3, 2011 4:28 pm

There’s clearly a good deal to understand about this. I believe you created some great factors in Functions also.

  169. NorthShoreFan March 3, 2011 4:34 pm

Will confirm reservations for Sunday, 12:00 at HoHo’s this evening. Stand by.

    #167 you related to Toppo?

  170. Manoa Mist March 3, 2011 4:42 pm

My line whenever the wahines spock me checking ’em out and get pissed: “Well, I’m not mahu.”

And no, I’m not koa mahu either. Have to admit koa mahu is pretty funny, whomever that may be.

Will the real koa mahu please stand up, please stand up, please stand up?

  171. Magan Mignone March 3, 2011 5:07 pm

  173. Kekoa March 3, 2011 6:05 pm

LOL Ralph! You would get lost in a broom closet!

OK Folks, for those that complained that we only held CC’s on weekdays at lunch time, we decide to do a weekend. We would have made it for Saturday, but for the Wahine SB game.

Michigan Warrior’s Dad is of course hospitalized and is doing ok for now. Our best wishes for a speedy recover to him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his Ohana as well.

So now let’s address his wishes to meet with as many Tsaiko’s while he is home. We scheduled Sunday @ 12 noon as confirmed by Michigan Warrior. You are all invited. Please stop by and join us in welcoming home a supah fan.

  176. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 7:14 pm

OH MY, Here we go again, not even 5 minutes into the Wahine game and already, 8 turnovers, and the kind of turnovers you see in high school games.

  177. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 7:16 pm

The Wahine are treating the basketball as if it is a HOT POTATOE, or it has POISON IVY, or something.

  178. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 7:18 pm

Big question, does Coach Dana, even teach the philosophy of ball possession.

  179. Guy in the office March 3, 2011 7:26 pm

UH men’s basketball team beats San Jose State, 77-71. Still has a chance to finish fourth.

  180. Hank March 3, 2011 7:27 pm

    …awesome….

  181. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 7:29 pm

  182. d1shima March 3, 2011 7:40 pm

    Way to go BasketBows! 🙂

  183. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 7:41 pm

Can we get another Coach Gib, on the Women’s side, PLEASE!!!! WAY TO GO COACH GIB, AWESOME JOB!!!! Can you teach Coach Dana, how to Coach a basketball team, PLEASE!!!!

  184. Kekoa March 3, 2011 7:50 pm

Thanks for pointing that out WSF. Gee we never would have noticed. Must be nice to kick back and sharpshoot. Have all the answers. Be so all knowing.

Like I said before, apply for the job. Set things up the way you want it. Then we’d have little autorobots out there playing perfect, error free bb.

  185. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 7:55 pm

    Kekoa,

Hey, I am not talking about error free bb, but good god, I do not see any other team turning the ball over with the frequency that the Wahine do, not even close. Even teams with less talent do not turn the over with the frequency the Wahine do. What gives, has to be Coaching. You must like seeing the Wahine lose year after year. If you made the same mistakes at your job, every day, do you think you would still have one.

  186. Malissa Crimi March 3, 2011 7:57 pm

Displaying some love to this matter “new to this wordpress”. I defiantly concur with it also. If you ever really think of it than it all causes alot of sense

  188. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 7:59 pm

    Kekoa,

There are a few high school teams in Hawaii that can beat these Rainbow Wahine, even tho the Wahine may have more talent then the high school team, it is because of coaching.

Hawaii, Idaho and Nevada all with victories tonight to force a three-way tie for fourth at 8-7.

NMSU, NEV and Hawaii are all knotted-up with identical conference records for the important pole position, #4 seed in the WAC T. NEV is @ NMSU on SAT. IF Hawaii wins on the road against Fresno State they will be tied for 4th with either NMSU or NEV. HAW must beat the dawgs to force the tie.

The #4 seed draws an opening-bye in the WAC T.

Idaho clinched the 3rd spot with a close win on their home court against FSU.

  198. hawaiiansun March 3, 2011 8:25 pm

Takahara was the second consecutive partisan-choice in both basketball programs.

Both selections reeked with the ole boy network and political inside-elbowing.

If Takahara is not retained after next season, UHAD will have blown six program years with what is best characterized as ‘entitlement’ choices. Besides the agonizing frustration for fans, it has also fiscally weakened their programs at a time tax payers can least afford to sustain low gates…. So much for selection by committee.

It still remains puzzling why we hire an AD to run a $30m program and wash out his accountability by adding tiers of lay personalities to make a decision that requires definitive expertise. And I dont want to hear the official spin for this set-up.

So damn political. Small wonder for mediocrity.

  199. LizKauai (macbook) March 3, 2011 8:35 pm

    GO WAHINE!

Haters- be sure to give Coach Dana credit for the comeback too… And Jim Donovan a crust of bread for doing his job.

    Game is not over…

  200. WahineSoftballFan March 3, 2011 8:36 pm

    Old Diver,

#193, are you really sure about that. Not hard to out coach Dana. Team has not shown any improvement since Day 1, if fact, they have gotten worse.

    #200- pfffft.

  202. Once a Warrior March 3, 2011 8:47 pm

hawaiiansun- if Hawaii was winning you’d have no complaints about the “ole boy network, political inside-elbowing, selection by committee” process.

Your argument is littered with hearsay information and weak at best. Give it a rest. Enjoy the ride.

We need to take a step back and examine the facts surrounding Dana being hired. Several candidates went before the selection committee and it was no secret that Dana’s interview which included detailed plans for the future of the program was the most complete and impressive. According to one very prominent member of the committee the next candidate was a distance second. The much publicized delay by the committee was caused by a single member of the committee who is pretty much an idiot. Agree or disagree Dana is our coach.

Even Tsaikos with less talent do not blog like an idiot with the frequency as I do. What gives, has to be all me. You must like seeing me look like an idiot year after year. If you purposely made the same idiotic mistakes as I do, every day, do you think you would still blog here.

Need new coach to get into Top tier, no matter what conference they are in. Great Win for the players, especially the Senior. Coach Dana needs to learn from her players.

Anyone who thinks coaching didn’t play a key role in that amazing Wahine comeback win just doesn’t understand basketball, or athletics for that matter. The players pulled it off by not getting down in the face of adversity, sticking together and staying positive until the end. The mental toughness and teamwork they demonstrated was a DIRECT result of coaching.

    Hi, ST! Hi Homes!

  251. WarriorMojo March 3, 2011 10:28 pm

Does anyone know what the tiebreakers are for WAC basketball standings? I would assume the first tie breaker is head to head games, but what’s next? Point differential?

Unless someone knows for sure what the tiebreakers are, I don’t think Boise has clinched second. They are 9-6 and play SJSU on Saturday. Lose and they are 9-7. Idaho is done at 9-7. Hawaii is 8-7 and obviously must beat Fresno to go 9-7. Nevada and NMSU play each other and are both 8-7.

If everything plays out, there could be a four team tie for second place between Boise, Idaho, Hawaii and Nevada/NMSU. Just as importantly, one of those teams will not get a bye into the second round. Even if Boise wins to clinch second, there’s still a three way tie for third if Hawaii wins.

Don’t know how in the heck you break these ties. Boise swept Idaho, but split with Hawaii, NMSU and Nevada. Hawaii was swept by Idaho, but split with the others. Idaho swept Hawaii and Nevada, but was swept by Boise and NMSU. NMSU swept Idaho, but split with Hawaii and Boise. Nevada was swept by Idaho and split with Boise and Hawaii.

  252. Calvin from Kona March 3, 2011 10:34 pm

Maybe WSF is Koa Mahu too?

  253. Guy in the office March 3, 2011 10:35 pm

According to Curran on tonight’s broadcast, he was told by UH media relations that if UH beats Fresno and Nevada beats NMSU, UH finishes fourth by way of tie-breaker. Not sure about that four-way tie for second, though.

  254. homey ℞ March 3, 2011 10:37 pm

    Hello XLiz!

  255. Calvin from Kona March 3, 2011 10:38 pm

    Hi homey, Liz, ST

  256. Shoko March 3, 2011 10:41 pm

Check out this link for tie-breaker rules.

    http://bballgroves.blogspot.com/2011/02/tie-breakswill-come-in-useful-this-week.html

What I read is that if Hawaii beats Fresno State and Nevada beats NMSU, Nevada would be in fourth because they swept NMSU in the home-and-away series and the Warriors didn’t.

  257. WarriorMojo March 3, 2011 10:42 pm

If Boise wins, they go 10-6 and clinch second. Idaho is sitting pretty at 9-7. Hawaii obviously must win to go 9-7. My guess is that if Nevada beats NMSU to go 9-7, then Idaho wins the tie breaker since they swept both Hawaii and Nevada. That’s not good for Hawaii because we then lose out to Nevada — IF the second tiebreaker is head to head point differential — since Nevada wacked us up there.

If NMSU beats Nevada, then don’t know who wins the tiebreakers since Idaho swept us and NMSU swept Idaho. Not sure if we lose out since we only split with NMSU.

    Howzit Tsaikos!!

Screecher #1 and I made a last minute decision to attend Sr. Night. NO REGRETS!!!

What a game! Sr Night is always special and this game was no exception. What a comeback! I had the utmost confidence that Kamilah would calmly put down those last 2 free throws. ON TO THE WAC TOURNAMENT!!

WAC refs suck. Thought we were gonna have to restrain Kazz. He gave the refs a double-fisted 1-finger salute a couple of times.

    GO WAHINE!!

    GO WARRIORS!!

    GO BOWS!!

(Oh, and WSF, how do your words taste?)

  265. WarriorMojo March 3, 2011 11:11 pm

Shoko, thanks for that link. If those are the correct tie breakers, it’s actually much simpler than I thought. When three or more teams are tied, the higher placing goes to the team with the most wins amongst the tied teams.

Boise would have five wins (Idaho x 2, Hawaii, Nevada, NMSU). As such, they are a lock for second place.

Idaho would also have five wins (Utah State, Hawaii x 2, Nevada x 2), but they lose the head to head tie-breaker with Boise and thus finish third.

Hawaii split with both Nevada and NMSU. The next tie-breaker is the highest “official NCAA RPI.” At the moment, Hawaii’s RPI is 157. NMSU’s RPI is 141. And Nevada’s RPI is 191.

    Bottom line: GO WOLFPACK!!

  266. WarriorMojo March 3, 2011 11:15 pm

    Guy in the office:

Thanks for passing on your #253. That is consistent with how I read the tie breakers.

  268. jm2375 March 3, 2011 11:19 pm

  269. Ralph March 3, 2011 11:19 pm

Kekoa there is a Pualei Furtado on the Utah State team, a Kam grad from Kaneohe. Parents are Dave and Tanya.

  270. WarriorMojo March 3, 2011 11:19 pm

Gosh, I take it back about Boise being a lock for second. They must win to stay ahead of Idaho. They lose the tie breakers to Idaho because only Nevada OR NMSU would be involved and Boise thus has four wins, not five. Idaho has five wins since its win over Utah State is counted for breaking a tie amongst three or more teams.

SUPER come back win for the wahines !

21 points down is not only a TRIBUTE to the gutsy hearts of each player
