Snap decision

A while back, UH coach Bob Wagner gave his final football scholarship to Farrington High coach Skippa Diaz, who then gave it to running back Randall Okiomoto.

Okimoto had a decent career at UH, earned a degree, then went went back to his alma mater to teach and coach.

Okimoto, who is Farrington’s head coach,  has been paying it forward ever since.

Farrington’s Tyler Liana will be joining the Warriors as a walk-on long-snapper. Liana, who is 6 feet 1 and 240 pounds, is the son of former Farrington quarterback Carl Liana (Okimoto’s teammate) and nephew of former UH quarterback Bronson Liana.

Tyler Liana is tough and diligent. He began playing football as a sophomore, and has developed into a good tight end and very good long-snapper.

“He was our most improved player,” Okimoto said. “He’s a good guy.”

Liana was a student intern with the Queen Lili‘uokalani Trust last summer.

Coach Wagner is No. 1. Why? His ’92 team beat Illinoi in the Holiday Bowl. No other Hawaii coach has done this – winning a major bowl game on the Mainland. Plus, his teams beat BYU when we were huge underdogs.

much of that credit goes to Paul Johnson, after he left, the UH football team quickly became the worst team in the wac. and fred von appen showed everybody that Hawaii had very little talent by changing the offense.

de ja vu again with june jones and mack. the difference between coach Chow and fred is the recruiting. if coach Chow is not successful, at least the next coach will have players to work with.

expect some growing pains again this year with a lot of freshmen and sophomores getting playing time.

  26. Old School Dave March 5, 2013 9:42 am

Paul Johnson, Mike Sewak, Ken Niumatalolo, and Chris Smeland left when they saw the writing on the wall with regards to the lack of support from the AD and administration (“You were successful with what you now have”) and the implementation of ridiculous admission policies that affected Prop 48 and JUCO transfers to UH (“We’re going to be the Stanford of the Pacific”). The other WAC schools pounced on that opportunity in terms of recruiting players from Hawaii, not to mentioned upgraded their facilities. Coach Wagner, basically, had his legs cut out from under him.

Al: Wagner’s firing was probably a low point in UH athletics, along with the firing of Red Rocha. Interesting to see Hugh Yoshida at Norm Chow’s welcoming reception at Washington Place when he was hired last year. Small island, gotta make nice.

  36. mikey March 5, 2013 10:13 am

Coach Wagner was a Defensive coach just like Mac

It was Paul Johnson’s Offense that made the team run.

We should have hired Paul as head coach.

Once he left the offense became history along with Wagner.

So in a sence Paul Johnson was #1 in my book

  37. mikey March 5, 2013 10:25 am

You need a very good Offense minded coach to run any team.

And surround yourself with great defense minded coach to stop your plays.

OR vice versa. That’s why both coach Wagner and Jones succeeded at UH.

  38. Kekoa March 5, 2013 10:26 am

Judge Mui ~ Take it slow ‘n easy on the recovery track. I’ve learned to give it your best effort and strive to push past what the doctors tell you.

This is the season you’ll want to see the Warriors push past usc and attack the rest of teams on the schedule. Think of them as being the team everybody wants to beat…and can’t!

Yes it is a great recruiting class on paper. I hope the coaches bring them together. I do really like this recruiting class. Alot of speed and height. I wanted at least one more DT and one more DE…. But in any case what a great class.

  48. Former UH Athlete March 5, 2013 11:17 am

#34, I think the trio of Herman Frazier hires was the low point in UH Athletics. Greg McMackin, Bob Nash and Jim Bolla.

#35, I love Garcia-Williams… He was the starter for most of last year and if he puts on some weight he’s going to be really good. On film, he’s got nice speed. I have no idea what his 40 is but he plays fast. Just needs some bulk.

I also love the safeties. Jackson and Hill are going to be laying the lumber. UH just needs to avoid the injury bug this year. Not sure if Art Laurel will keep his starting job. The returning freshman (now sophomores) have higher ceilings and the new guys are quicker on paper.

Can’t wait to see who wins the LB position battles. UH is going to improve greatly with the competition.

  49. Former UH Athlete March 5, 2013 11:23 am

#47, UH had more DL recruits but Tua’au, and Ekuale de-committed and went elsewhere last minute. They where going to be two of the highlight recruits but were poached.

That’s the recruiting game for ya. Schools similar to UH’s stature are always at risk of the big boy schools luring away the top commits. It’s just the way it is. Just have to give better suitcases… ;-P

  50. papajoe2 March 5, 2013 11:26 am

I thought UH, during Wagner’s years, went downhill once Coach Johnson lost or his playbook was stolen. I heard that his plays were being passed around to the WAC coaches. But that was a long time ago.

Always nice to see another gov get into uh. Why not give him a scholly? Maybe if he came out of Kahuku ah, wat u tink? How u figah? I’m joking. In my eyes, Okimoto will be a great hs coach when he wakes up and gets da molokai donkey of his back an wins the big games. He also needs to help get more of his athletes qualified. I mean his star athletes. Over the years I can recall stand out last names like Fatu, Faumui, Lesu, Silva, Iuta, Kealoha, Isumu, So’oalo, Tuilepa, Noga, Siliga, Tauefa, Sula, Sua, Taolelagi, Latu, Masalosalo, this years Sataraka, Taumua, A’mo Silva, Anakolea, Tavae, and the list goes on and on. What will it take to get these guys qualified along with some exposure to get some offers? Da Kilihi people is looking fo some answers. Any recommendations? LOL.

Speedy recovery to Tom Mui…Optimism is high based on the recruiting, but it will take good coaching to ensure you get the most out of your players.

  58. Lorretta Beegle March 5, 2013 12:18 pm

After being on probation now for close to five years my probation was nearing an end. I have paid all fees, completed my community service, and live a drug free life! However, I was in route to the hospital to admit my sick father several months ago. At the time, I was pulled over by a NC State Trooper that had absolutely no compassion for the situation. The court date was set one month and three days from the alleged speeding violation. The ticket was dismissed on the court date. To my astonishment, I received an additional two and a half months to my probation sentence-For a SPEEDING TICKET! Now, if that is not being “guilty until proven innocent,” I do not know what is… The system, although having a shortage of officers, does everything within it’s power to keep you “locked in the system forever!” I am still in shock about this… Does Tolling really apply to a traffic violation, as well? Jamie, thanks for letting me vent about this matter and I appreciate, in advance, your response.

  59. Bowwar March 5, 2013 12:28 pm

Wags was a good coach…It’s too bad he was treated so terribly when they decided to fire him. Definitely a low point in UH athletics along with the Rocha fiasco. The Wonder Blunder isn’t too far behind either.

  60. Bowwar March 5, 2013 12:33 pm

I also think that given time, McMackin will be seen in a positive light…He didn’t leave the cupboard bare and probably would have won more games than Chow in his final year. Just bad karma with the ND gay thing, the huge $$$ contract, and lots of injuries (especially to QBs) during his tenure short-circuited his stay. I really thought that McMackin would have done better had he “cleaned-house” like Chow did and brought in his “own” coaches. However, Mac tried to be “politically correct” and kept some assistants that should have been discarded. Also, it should be noted that Mac was a genuinely “nice-guy” and a “players coach” maybe to a fault.

practice, practice, and more practice. meaning read, read, and read some more. you want better grades in school, the students need to read more. talking all da kine is fine, but they need to be able to read and write in english. and that might be getting more difficult with todays youth relying so heavily on electronics and videos.

like anything else, if you do the work, you will get results.

  70. Old School Dave March 5, 2013 1:40 pm

Funny story from the late Bo Schembelchler:

Initial contact with recruit: “Oh my god, Coach Schembelchler? It’s an honor to meet you sir.”

A few months along the recruiting process: “Hey Bo, how ya doing?”

  71. G (China) March 5, 2013 1:54 pm

Mack was more than a good guy. He was a winner. He won two WAC titles. He had great wins. He produced NFL talent. The success he saw in 2010 had a direct impact on being able to be in the MWC.

Mack was more than a player’s coach. He had the appreciation and loyalty of those he coached previously. He was staunchly supported by his contemporaries.

Mack was more than fair. He was gracious. He took a voluntary pay cut even though the writing was on the wall. When the rug was pulled under him, he didn’t say anything bad. If anything you never heard how he felt things were unfair.

Mack was more than pc. He was an innovator. He brought in Jr. Days. Gave a voice for women to be involved. He brought bright young minds in Aranda and what’s his name. He always gave them credit publicly.

Having said that, this is Coach Chow’s time. What he is doing in my opinion is changing the culture that took 13 years to establish. It takes time and having the right people to do it is going to be hard. 13 years of run and shoot days are behind us. In front of us is a lot of possibility. Chow will have his time to develop a culture that recruits Hawaii first, recruits year round, so that his approach of chasing championships can be realized.

  80. wasabi March 5, 2013 2:47 pm

77- that was directed toward UH who always bashes Mac while pumping up Chow. If and when he proves Chow more successful than Mac, I might believe it. Hoping Chow can hold together a cohesive team. That will be a huge key to his success. I hope he pulls it off.

  81. Derek March 5, 2013 2:53 pm

In my opinion, I don’t think McMackin’s recruits were top shelf. Many of his recruits were not Division IA (FBS) talent. One QB from Arizona left after 2 years due to injuries and when healthy he didn’t smell a game. Corey Nielson, bless his heart, stayed 3 years, hardly played and then went to a Divsion II or Division III school, St. Francis, somewhere. David Graves didn’t even play last year and likely won’t play much this season either. His best recruit probably is Alex Green. But, it’s all moot at this point. I met Greg McMackin a couple of times and he’s a genuine nice person, easy to talk too. It’s just too bad, in this business it’s all about getting good recruits to help the team be successful. What do you think, Jeezy33 and Al? I think Chow’s staff is doing a lot better in getting more good players for the program. I am encouraged to see how the young guys do on the field. USC is for the talking this year at home. We will see how far we are after that game.

  82. wasabi March 5, 2013 3:02 pm

81- a few of those Mac recruits were immediately picked up by D-1 programs. I guess we’ll get to see their talent playing against UH…

  83. G (China) March 5, 2013 3:05 pm

    78. I agree. However, I can smell stink a mile away and there is stink on the blog that I use to love coming to.

  84. NotNasti March 5, 2013 3:05 pm

Mac may have been a nice guy, but he was not head coach material. His disorganization showed. His coaches were near mutiny during his last year. And he was nuts, literally.

  85. hightide March 5, 2013 3:12 pm

If coaches coached to prevent injuries the team will win. Chow’s first year all the Oline and Dline players were injured not to mention Line Bs and receivers. It is as simple as that.

  86. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc March 5, 2013 3:25 pm

What happened to Tom Mui? Haven’t been around for several days so I am not aware of what’s going on. In any case, good luck, Tom, and look forward to seeing you again.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT #1: We have two tickets for this Saturday’s baseball game – we’ll be at the Wahine basketball game’s Senior Night. If you would like the tickets, please send me an e-mail with your (real) name and a daytime phone number to swood at hoku dot com.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT #2: I purchased a Mac desktop nearly two months ago but it is still sitting in the box because I have not been able to find anyone who can help me transfer my word processing and e-mail files (WordPerfect and Eudora) from the PC to the Mac. I cannot just dump them because I am still using them – especially the WordPerfect – aand have been for over 20 years.

I’ve tried to find someone at the Apple Store in Ala Moana and at Mac Made Easy, but they are not able to help me out. If you have any recommendations, please send me the information to the above e-mail address. Mahalo.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT #3: I am going through the first draft of the State Budget bill – HB 200 – which will be heard for the first time before the House Finance Committee at 2 pm tomorrow. It’s over 150 pages long.

However, I have not yet found a single proposed item to address the Capital Improvement Project upgrades at either Aloha Stadium or the Department of Athletics at UH-Manoa.

With respect to the Stadium Facilities Special Fund which was passed in 2012, it is very likely to die unless someone steps in to address the issue of removing it from the about-2-b-repealed Public Land Development Corporation to another state department. The Stadium Fund was administratively attached to the PLDC although all the decisions were kept with the Stadium Authority.

  87. Moocher March 5, 2013 3:28 pm

    77

    correct…..

but you will never hear “those people” say that JJ went 3-9 in his second year, chow went 3-9 in his first…which means we can bring forth the argument that chow is a year ahead of JJ.

Coach Mac had an inherited plug-n-play system which in my opinion was on the border of making leaps and bounds with aranda and rolo or would fall off a cliff. we will never know.

Despite all of this, it goes to show wins are not enough, only a part of it. you need to have a sellable, marketable program. JJ sold the program with the offense, wins, excitement, color changes, name changes, vili, etc. and espn and the nation bought it….and right now we are reeling all that back.

chow has said time and time again this is not an exciting offense. color changes are no more, vili is no more, the only things left are the name warriors and wins are no guarantee. where’s all the other extras to make the program sellable and marketable? it cannot be on wins alone.

  88. Bowwar March 5, 2013 3:32 pm

84: Pretty bold comments…I hope you have supporting evidence to back it up.

I didn’t see much improvement in “organization” in Chow’s first year either and he didn’t have to “inherit” a staff like Mac did. In fact, until Chow can show that he can “coach” kids to play up to their potential, then the jury remains out on him.

  89. Bowwar March 5, 2013 3:36 pm

71: Very well stated China…It’s all said and done, I just wish people would leave Mac alone and not compare him to Chow. Mac was a “decent” person who really tried his best to maintain and elevate the program. He didn’t do it to everyone’s satisfaction, so he was let go…

Let Chow show what he can/cannot do. Again, Chow needs to “coach up” if he expects to see his players perform and chase championships.

  90. Whats up March 5, 2013 3:44 pm

McMackin was a great person and great Defensive Coordinator without a doubt. He was just left a lot to be desired (Game Mismanagements, calling timeouts at the wrong time, losing to powerhouse programs in 2011 like UNLV, SJSU, Utah State (at home), blow out losses to Notre dame, Wisconsin, Tulsa on national TV, I could go on and on) for a $1.2 million dollar a year head coach that made just as much or more than Boise State’s Chris Peterson from 2008 to 2011. Add the fact the Hawaii was having Furlough’s during the period and Mack didn’t take a significant paycut to help the State/University but rather a really minor one that was more like a small charitible donation. Plus, Mack followed in the foot steps of a 2007 Sugar Bowl season head coach June Jones and didn’t have change much of anything but had the luxury of recruiting off of that 2007 Sugar Bowl nation lime light seasons success. But McMackin did alot of good things at the University of Hawaii as well, just was not a successful $1.2 million a year and over the past 4 years he made $4.4 million plus the retirement agreement of $550,000 to equal $5 million total D1 level head coach. Hawaii came from a 2007 Sugar Bowl head coach to a head coach with 1 shared WAC championship in 2010 and 3 disappointing seasons 2008, 2009, 2011 with blowout losses and only paid $5 million for those 4 years. It’s time to move on from the soft, cookies and milk days of over paid McMackin. McMackin never had the pedigree, National Name recognition, national media respect of a June Jones or Norm Chow. Chow is a Hawaii native “Local Boy” that cares about Hawaii and is not taking Hawaii to the bank for all he has to offer.

For example, Chow is getting paid $550,000 (which in 5 years will total around $2.5 million and thats half of what McMackin made in a only 4 years as head coach) with incentives and is recruiting with a 2011 6-7 team and 2012 3-9 team. The recruits mainland and local boys that Chow and his staff are bringing in are outstanding. The recruits are commiting early, I mean very early now and that the type of recruits (Marrel Jackson, Nequan Phillips, Jerol Garcia Williams, Steven Lakalaka, Kiha Sai, Kennedy Tuilimaseali, Afoga Wily, Aaron Zwahlen, John Wa’a (Very early commit) to name a few that have commited already and the 2014 very early commits Manly Williams, Daniel Lewis and (soft verbal) Fitou Fishiiahi add transfers like Taylor Graham and I impressed. Chow hired some quality coaches that can recruit, he kept Tony Tuioti which was smart. Now I know a lot of folks are going to say that not keeping Aranda and Rolo was crazy and I tend to agree with those of you. But that was Chow’s call and we will see how that plays out in the future. But lets keep in mind that Chow is overhauling the entire program and this past season he had to use the holdover players that where recruited for the RnS offense, not the Prostyle offense. Now the hold over defensive players are still studs McMackin and Aranda knew how to recruit defensive players and Chow, Kaumeyer, Demo, Tuioti are just adding or even upping the talent level on defense with there own recruits. New coaches, AD, Conference (MWC), new recruits, new offense, defense and special teams systems, new no nonsense discplinary system, it’s alot! It’s going to take a few years for everything to work and the Warriors get back to winning a lot of games again.

Next season 2013 I expect another not so great season with maybe 4-5 wins (No Bowl Game) with the defense leading the charge and the offense still needing to mesh a little more with a possible QB change to Taylor Graham. And it is comforting to know that we have the tough heart of a champion Sean Schoreder in the QB mix as well. But with Mike Edwards gone the CB play is going to be huge with this type of defense. I’m hopeful but not expecting much next season, if they do better than I expect then awesome, if not, only Chow’s 2nd season and are still going to have some grown pains. In my opinion the 2014 season will be much better with the players and recruits in the 3rd year and really starting to grasp the new offensive and defensive systems. They should be playing faster and not thinking/second guessing themselves by 2014 and beyond. Plus, QB Taylor Graham and the O line should be improved by 2014, I hope the injury bug goes away too! It’s way too early to tell if Norm Chow is the man to take Hawaii football back to the Sugar Bowl glory days but I’m hopeful and excited for the future of Hawaii Warrior Football.

This is a very different offense then the RnS. Which I know you know. Chow and company doesn’t have what it takes to make the offense run smooth. But in year one and two in recruiting you are seeing more of the recruits that is needed to run this offense. Bigger taller WR, TEs and OL. In the RnS offense that we had in 2011 we had smaller WRs no TEs and more pass blocking OL. We need that grind and pound type of offensive lineman. That big and tall WR. And we didn’t have a TE period. Defense did good enough to win games but it’s hard to win games when your offense goes three and out as much as we did. At times you could see what this offense can do if we had the correct recruits and teach them well to get the job done. And I firmly believe it will be either Chows third year or fourth.

Boise State wins and win kinda boringly for the most part, they may once in while use a trick play but the base offense and defense is not the Flashy RnS. The blue turf didn’t mean much when they were nobody’s and Boise had the blue turf for a while. But what got Boise State no the map was winning, all programs that are on the map have or had a tradition of winning. June Jones brought Hawaii winning, the other stuff was nice like the uniform changes. But without the winning Hawaii would even be a after thought in college football in 2006-2007. June Jone did a lot of good for the University of Hawaii Warrior Football and McMackin to the program a step back over his 4 years as head coach. But hopefully Chow, Kaumeyer, Demo and the rest of the staff can turn the Warriors around in a few years. The one thing that Norm Chow has is that he is Nationally respected in the college football media and by his peers. Make no mistake Norm Chow national name recognition in college football makes a huge difference, you can already to start seeing it by type of recruits and how early they are commiting. Hawaii is getting top local boys to stay home and commit very early. In the McMackin Era I really can’t remember recruiting being this good? And when Hawaii starts to win again you will hear things like “Norm Chow’s Hawaii Warriors” being said and annouced in the media, just like it was with “June Jones RnS with the Hawaii Warriors”. Gone are the days of the base Offense as the RnS and now it’s time to move on the the Pro style offense and I’m guessing the new OC Price will put in some spread elements to the offense as well. But having said all that, it’s not the system of offense or any gimmick that brings your program to the national limelight, It’s winning and more winning.

Look whose back, any way June’s offense was awesome, very exciting, the problem was u need players like colt Brennan, Devon bess, grice Mullins, without those types of guys u cannot operate the run and shoot, uh was not getting that caliber players, and that’s the truth. Then a one dementional pass team will always lose to fast defenses, like Georgia, any sec PAC 10 schools. Chows offense is the key to success. Look a

When he was at USC, their teams was one off college footballs best, and he’s giving uh that caliber coaching, for kale Anes salary at punahou! Turn around is inevitable!

  108. jeezy33 March 5, 2013 6:18 pm

    81. I think you got it right. Offensively, Chow is bringing in guys that Mack couldn’t. How he develops them is key. Most of our assistant coaches were graduate assistants with Chow at UCLA so its real hard to know how good they are at developing guys. I think Powell and Tuioti are solid guys for the defense. I wasn’t pleased with O line but we brought in Naeole so thats good news.

Talent is definitely a lot better thought in recruiting. No disrespect to Mack recruits but don’t really know if they were D1 caliber. Thomas Olds, Ijumaa Armstrong, Kendrick Van Ackeran, Afusia were all under sized tweeners. I thought Olds was going to be good but I got too caught up into his highlight film without really knowing how small he was. We also recruited slow O linemen under Mack. The QB recruits were definitely questionable. Top 3 QBs at Hawaii were walk ons. Moniz, Austin, Jantz.

as i said winning is a part of it.

if you want to compare Boise to hawaii…how long, how many did years did it take Boise to reach prime time and on ESPN almost every week compared to how short it took JJ to get hawaii to prime time much the same way.

What I’m saying is i agree, yes, wins are the bottom line….but if you can make it look good, smell good, taste good, and make those wins appealing by having that something extra…you will get a farther reach, and that ultimately means more money. people will be more tolerant and will still want to see you even if you have a few losses and that’s because they have a taste for you, something more that they like about you.

if you got ahi-great, you win. if you got seasonings to go along with that ahi, you still win, but now more people will come, follow, and join. all i’m saying is what can the marketing department do to spice things up?

    #91

agree, different offenses. the point was when people want to compare JJ to chow you can’t! 🙂

otherwise you can easily argue in year 2 of JJ he went 3-9 with 2 recruiting classes. Chow went 3-9 in his first year with 1 year of recruiting. the point is, give it time before comparing and live in the now because this can be an incredible time for the program if we back it up. we all backed up jj in year 1, that was easy to do after 0-12 the year before and jj produced in the years ahead…and so will chow-in the years ahead.

…so why compare chow to jj now? and that was my point 🙂

  113. kimo browner March 5, 2013 7:19 pm

When it’s all said and done, Coach Chow must produce wins and show progress every year.

Mr Jay has already been on record as saying mediocre is not good enough. How this statement translates to tolerance in time and “progress evaluation” only our current UHAD can define–by his acts or omission to act… Football is the big revenue sport that pulls the train. Coming from Ohio State, Ben Jay knows that. Contract notwithstanding, by the close of the 2014 football season we will know whether Norm Chow or Ben Jay is for real. In the meantime, enjoy the loops and spins. It should be fun watching it all unfold.

    – RB/OLB Syndreck Dsio (Farrington)

  117. Aaron March 5, 2013 7:29 pm

LOL… any time someone mentions Mack’s mental capacity in or the morale of the coaching staff during Mack’s last season, someone will say “I hope you have proof…” Well, who’s gonna have “proof” ? No one is going to come out publicly and confirm this (other than the Graves interview, which was disregarded by those who didn’t want to hear it), but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. This is a small island, and people talk. Those who don’t believe that this is the biggest reason that UH struggled in 2011 just need to look at the successes of Mack’s former assistants at their new jobs (Rolo, Aranda, and even Miano). There were great coaches on that staff, but they had to work around Mack in 2011 instead of working with him.

Mack’s biggest crimes were simply getting older and having too good of an agent.

BTW just because a player isn’t being recruited by a bunch of big name programs doesn’t always mean much. For example, the only other solid scholie offer that former Warrior (and current Green Bay) RB Alex Green had was from an FCS school (Liberty). Got that firsthand from Alex’s mom Phyllis Smith.

#65 I guess you got all the answers for for student athletes in the struggle trying to make the garde. Sure its the student athletes responsibility, but many of them are not being educated enough to know with comfort. Many end up confused and wonder off due to the lack of understanding. Isn’t that the reason why they are in school? To get educated? Is the system really working at Farrington and else where? I sure don’t see a whole lot of improvement. Farrington is a school that has probably the most student enrollment in the entire state. Filled with talented athletes year after year, yet the number of qualified athletes are bare minimum, sometimes none. Okimoto is not only the head varsity football coach at Farrington, he’s a PE teacher as well. He doesn’t have to, but maybe he should get his staff together to provide work shops on educating student athletes and there parent in how to be more pro-active with there child, the school, and community. Community service wouldn’t be such a bad idea at all. Here’s are the numbers over the last few years of gov f#67ootball athletes who qualified and was offered a D1 scholarship and is currently on the teams.

    2012=1 LB Lance Williams (Hawaii)(c/o2011)

    2011=1 LB Justin Vele (Hawaii)

But that would mean a near perfect performance from Graham (who will be playing his first game in 3 years), the OLine playing very well with likely 3 new starters/players changing positions, the new WRs making an immediate impact, and the young defensive players and new guys stepping up their games.

That combined with Barkely’s replacement struggling in his 1st game (which is possible). Are Robert Woods & M. Lee still with USC??

  145. lava March 6, 2013 6:23 am

    #145 – wow. Beat USC?

  146. RedZone March 6, 2013 6:30 am

Woods to NFL. ran 4.51 at combine.

  147. Shoko March 6, 2013 6:42 am

I don’t think the spread against Hawaii will be as much as it was last season (+43). Marquise Lee is still at USC.

Appears Wisconsin head coach Gary Anderson (former Utah State HC) has lost his ST/TE coach after only two months on the job.

    Anderson’s reaction to his departure?

“It’s disappointing. It’s upsetting, I brought the wrong guy in here. We’ll be better off as we move forward. It is my responsibility to get the coaches in here. I don’t like the timing of it. I don’t like the situation that we’re in at all.”

    So, what does he do?

He steals Nevada’s ST/RB coach who has been on the job for two months…lol!

    http://blogs.rgj.com/packblog/2013/03/05/report-wolf-pack-loses-special-teamsrunning-backs-coach-to-wisconsin/

  148. Shoko March 6, 2013 6:57 am

Pretty good idea that Jay believes not scheduling any FCS opponents since the new playoff structure means that non-conference schedules hav to have an improved strength of schedule.

  149. dedicatedfan March 6, 2013 6:59 am

Just heard on the BC Show, beside the 2 Seniors (Ricketts & DeAngelis), Kanisha Bello & Vicky Tagalicod, will be involved in Senior Night, per Laura Beeman. Bello & Tagalicod, will be foregoing their Senior Years.

  150. Andres March 6, 2013 7:02 am

I think so. I think your article will give those people a good reminding. And they will express thanks to you later

  151. gobows March 6, 2013 7:04 am

    #145

usc is bigger, stronger, faster, have more experience, players know the system and express more dedication to football, and lane kiffen is their coach. bottom line, Hawaii get chance.

  152. gobows March 6, 2013 7:23 am

    #139

learning starts in the HOME. don’t blame society, blame the parents. Hawaii has the greatest library system in the nation, and it’s free. if the parents don’t encourage their children to do learning activities that’s their prerogative. idiot parents will allow their children to be under achievers. there are a lot of students at farrington that come from poor families but do exceptionally well in school.

how come football players from farrington lack ambition to further their education?

  153. gobows March 6, 2013 8:05 am

    #139

why did you limit your list to only FBS schools. your list is misleading. get many football players from hawaii schools going to college, and had a few from farrington. why you no acknowledge the guys from farrington that earned a football scholarship? why you only care about D1? you part of the problem, not the solution.

  154. DoubleB March 6, 2013 8:10 am
