Slot back?

There still is a lot of work to do, but it appears there’s a possibility slotback Samson Anguay will eligible to compete in 2016 as a sixth-year senior.

Anguay’s injury-filled past — three surgeries for two ACL injuries — is the biggest boost in his quest. A medical hardship usually is granted for a player who has missed at least two seasons because of injury; Anguay has missed at least three.

Anguay is a 2010 Campbell High graduated who grayshirted that fall and joined UH in January 2011. He was set to become the Warriors’ punt returner when he suffered a non-contact ACL injury during unsupervised summer workouts.

While it was announced Anguay was granted a medical retirement the past summer, he, in fact, focused on academics while trying to fully heal.

ST, any word on how the recruiting trip went this weekend?

  6. kapakahi December 13, 2015 11:05 am

With only 4 SB types currently on the roster……Camanse-Stevens, Collie, Ursua, Bernard……Anguay would add needed depth.

Hopefully Rolo also taking a close look at Kanawai’s younger brother Kumoku……

    Double B:
It sounds like it was a good weekend.
The only thing I wondered about was the clash with the marathon. UH usually takes recruits to Sunday breakfast in Waikiki, but not sure if the streets were coned. Hey, a lot happens while I’m sleeping — and I do sleep a lot in my old age.

  8. Stephen Tsai December 13, 2015 11:18 am

    Kapakahi:
    Good point.
I keep hearing his name, but I’m not sure what the deal is on that.
He led the ILH in receiving, right?

  9. kapakahi December 13, 2015 11:31 am

Yup…….lead the ILH in receiving yardage.

A pretty good guess that……KHS-Kapalama HC (and former Dallas Cowboy All-Pro Tight End) Doug Cosbie……would be a very credible evaluator of Kumoku’s talent, work ethic, & character.

  10. kapakahi December 13, 2015 11:39 am

Kumoku could also provide UH with options at both PR and KR…..where quality depth is definitely an issue…..as was demonstrated in the UL-Monroe game……when Collie just wasn’t comfortable fielding punts (in place of Nelson with Q already done for the season) & Muraoka was the last man standing (after Ewaliko & Joas both got dinged up).

  11. Old School Dave December 13, 2015 11:39 am

Sunday breakfast for recruits at Orchids or Prince Court? Sounds like a plan.

  12. Jeezy33 December 13, 2015 11:46 am

Kumoku doesn’t have the elite level speed or quickness to play at his position. My sources have also told me that he actually has a brother who is a sophomore on the varsity team that doesn’t start but will be extremely good. If Rolo knows what’s good for the team, and if he hired competent assistants who can evaluate talent as well as I can, he will keep tabs on him and see how he develops.

  13. DoubleB December 13, 2015 11:47 am

Thanks ST and Kapakahi 🙂 BTW sleep is good… I just don’t get enough.

We need to stop chasing after second tier players from smaller OIA schools. There are a lot of solid recruits out there that are under the radar in the outer islands like Justin Dancil from Maui High. Even though he is very under the radar, according to my metrics, he is projected to develop into a serviceable slot receiver.

Whoa Jeezy33, I didn’t catch that until you pointed it out. Pretty weak if you gotta stoop to impersonating someone else online. My eldest daughter reported someone on FB for using her pic and false name, twice. The profile has not been removed yet. Some people have nothing better to do. 🙂

Any word on whether the Strength & Conditioning coach Gary Beemer will be retained or is the program going in a different direction there? The current players need to be ready to hit the ground running come January with regards to their S & C.

  50. cappie the dog December 13, 2015 6:57 pm

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

    Or…

My favorite type of science fiction novel is the alternate universe.

Another Jeezy got sucked up in a wormhole and was deposited in our world.

In one of these alternate universes, Hawaii is the FBS national champion.

  51. cappie the dog December 13, 2015 7:00 pm

Any fans of contemporary literature out there?

Best alternate universe novel: Colson Whitehead’s “The Intuitionist”.

    He was in Kauai recently.

On this earth, the world is centered around elevator inspectors.

  57. A-House December 13, 2015 7:15 pm

was disappointed by the Govs remarks in the paper about UH

conversely, he said he would welcome the chance to “line item” certain things if UH top brass will release all or part of their autonomy

autonomy works well only if those in charge has the know-it-all to handle the budget correctly — can sense that certain people are unwilling to let go of their “territory” for the betterment of the school

feeling that mucho “paternalistic patterns still exist in upper campus — it’s mine, it’s mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. Buffoman December 13, 2015 7:18 pm

Any somewhat reliable speculation regarding the strength/conditioning coach, DC and D line coach vacancies?

  59. 3-Prong December 13, 2015 7:40 pm

57 A-House: I shared that same dissapoinment in listening to Ige. I have the feeling that he would not hesitate in cutting athletics. I see him showing up to UH events to curry favor with the voters like abacrombie used to do. Remenber how that ended up for the former Gov when he failed to support UH and the DOE. Ige needs to come out with how he feels about athletics specifically or don’t be surprised if he suffers the same fate.

  60. papajoe2 December 13, 2015 7:51 pm

What is MBO Control? -29+ mil.
    Chancellors Office-13,8+ mil.
    Hmmmmm………..

  61. Legistlature December 13, 2015 8:04 pm

those negative figures accumulated over how many years?…what about scrapping those programs and allocate that annual budget for that program to athletics..POWER 5 look out here we come

  62. AdmrVT December 13, 2015 8:13 pm

#59. He is well on his way to being a 1-term gov. He graded his first years as a B. Unbelievable.

  63. winning December 13, 2015 10:02 pm

Ige is Soooooo! politically correct. He cant seem to take the bull by the horns and suggest some remedies to help athletics. Cant believe he stopped buying tickets because they were too “expensive”?

  64. 3-Prong December 13, 2015 10:48 pm

winning: Ige said the tickets were too expensive? Way to lead by example (not). I guess he shows up now because he gets in free. I notice he brings the Mrs too for show. When did he say this?

  65. Na Alii Pride December 13, 2015 11:30 pm

I think he made it clear how he feels about athletics when he said “I would say the cancer center is more important (than athletics). I agree that if he were given control of UH that he would cut athletics altogether.

  66. Frannyk December 14, 2015 1:48 am

You guys are the ones who voted for Ige in the first place!!!!

Stupid voters just keep on voting for the SAME State Legislators, the SAME Congress, the SAME Senate!!!! And you expect different results? That’s the definition of INSANITY!

It’s your fault, you STUPID voters!!!

  67. Haleakala December 14, 2015 3:04 am

#66. Not true. The prior governor got booted out big time.

The current gov is on very shaky ground himself. He’s turning off groups of constituents with his comments, decisions, indecisiveness.

  68. Haleakala December 14, 2015 3:06 am

Enough on politics. This is a Warrior Pride Rock forum for most of us.

  69. Maddog50 December 14, 2015 4:14 am

I agree this is a fan forum especially for Warrior football. I always do a little research on someone who hits a nerve when it come to Hawaii athletics. In yesterday’s edition the governor state after thirty years of being a season ticket holder(a fact I can not check) he said he was priced out of the market and therefore no longer has them. I guess if UH athletics delivers some 7 or 8 million dollars in tax revenue and UH asks for some of that so maybe it can yield another couple of million in return it doesn’t make sense to him. So so tired as I am sure many are of even hearing this nonsense or even discussing it. Me too I am done with this particular subject, but when you get an engineer you get all of it and pocket protectors to boot—

  70. Maddog50 December 14, 2015 4:26 am

The Straub clinic ad that is on my page when I access this blog—I swear that is our good old friend Scott Harding-if not its his twin!!!!

  71. 3-Prong December 14, 2015 6:26 am

I too am a proponent for excluding politics in general from the blog. I felt in this case it was pertinent since our Governor plays a major role in funding the University and its’ athletic program and hinted at “line iteming” programs. Will try to hold my tongue on this issue going forward. (Unless he speaks out on the issue again…hehe)
