Scout Bowl

UH’s redshirts and developing players today competed in a 25-play scrimmage known as the Scout Bowl.

Offense did well, with Jeremy Higgins, Kevin Spain and Stump Godfrey combining for 11-of-19 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. But safety Bubba Poueu-Luna had a big scrimmage, coming up with two interceptions — including one returned 30  yards for a touchdown — and making a sack.

• Kevin Spain — 3 of 3 for 86  yards, one touchdown.

• Stump Godfrey — 1 of 6 for 17 yards, one interception.

Rushing

• Will Gregory — 2-7

• Josh Gonda — 1-4

• Kevin Spain — 1-(minus) 6

    big 12 winner……..sigh

  17. Garret October 6, 2011 7:16 am

I wish that I could attend the Scout Bowl…it would be awesome to see the Warriors that will be needed for the future get a chance to show what they can do.

  18. haka October 6, 2011 7:18 am

A change of pace, speedy back in the backfield is a missing piece to the offense this year. Will Gregory be the guy next year?

  19. Garret October 6, 2011 7:18 am

The Big 12 is making another announcement a few hours after the TCU announcement. BYU? Louisville? Missouri staying/going?

Looks like Missouri doesn’t have enough votes to get an invitation to the SEC yet:

One source said there’s a group of presidents that wants to sit tight, believing the SEC can do better than Missouri and that No. 14 should come from the East. According to both sources, Alabama wants to look East and not risk losing its annual game against Tennessee, while Auburn favors adding Missouri and moving to the Eastern Division.

Does Dick Tomey bring any insights into the San Jose State game, or was there a wholesale staff change when he left town?

  21. らす べがす October 6, 2011 7:21 am

fins’ Henne out for the season, where for art thou Colt?

    Are you working out?

    Gotta be beter than Sage

  22. らす べがす October 6, 2011 7:26 am

    #20

Dick Tomey may not remember what he had for breakfast, much less SJ St.

Ahh, if you’re reading this Coach, just kidding, really.

If you got the time to read this, maybe work on some blocking during kicks

    No more this season please

  23. Shoko October 6, 2011 7:28 am

“On Sunday, SMU had moved into the “receiving votes” section of the polls and later that night it was reported that the Big East Conference, which TCU becomes a member in 2012, added SMU to its list of expansion candidates.”

    http://espn.go.com/dallas/ncf/story/_/id/7064059/smu-mustangs-coach-june-jones-tcu-horned-frogs-coach-gary-patterson-misconstrued-compliment

So, does that improve the Mustangs chances? I’m getting a headache now.

  24. Garret October 6, 2011 7:32 am

UH offered this Arizona State commit a scholarship.

LB Poly wide receiver Randall Goforth was part of a huge group of players from Poly to commit to Arizona State in April. The 5-foot-10, 170 pound has not wavered on his commitment but is planning some other visits.

“I would say that right now UCLA and Hawaii are right behind ASU,” he said. “I’m still committed but I’m going to make sure of my decision. I’m not taking my visits until after my season though.”

    http://247sports.com/Article/Free-Link-UCLA-offers-Goforth-plans-visits-42924

  25. Garret October 6, 2011 7:34 am

    Shoko,

SMU was on a list of 3 schools that were the top priorities for Big East expansion…and they are going to need to add at least 3 schools. SMU might just take TCU’s place in the Big East, if that conference isn’t raided to the point where they just give up.

  26. Shoko October 6, 2011 7:38 am

    Big East is hurting. 😉

  27. Garret October 6, 2011 7:40 am

UH just offered this DT from an Arizona JC. 6-5, 330 pounds, he already has offers from Arizona State, Arkansas (they have his only scheduled visit), Colorado, West Virginia, Texas A&M, and a lot of others.

Looking at these recent offers, it looks like UH is offering after Arizona State offers instead of how Pac-10 schools used to try to poach UH commits.

    http://washingtonstate.scout.com/a.z?s=137&p=8&c=1&nid=5464437

  28. Garret October 6, 2011 7:44 am

I’m not sure if this was already posted, but UH offered this Ohio CB yesterday. ST mentioned that Tony Tuioti was going to Ohio after the La Tech game–Sean Draper was the recruit he was going to see. He has offers from most of the MAC schools and some are located fairly near his home, but his Mom says she doesn’t mind him going far away for school and he plans to visit near then end of UH’s season (probably Tulane or BYU).

  29. AlaWai October 6, 2011 7:49 am

Hope to read about OL offers to increase our depth in the trench.

  30. postmanke October 6, 2011 7:52 am

    # 20 – If there is one concern Tomey might have it may be paying attention to where Duke iHeNacho – Daddy is on the field. He is fun to watch and can flat out bring it! my favorite DB in the NCAA not in a Warrior uniform.

  31. CoolEthan October 6, 2011 7:57 am

Scout bowls are fun for both sides of the spectrum. Great motivational factors for the athletes, and breaks up the tough practice routines. These guys deserve it for all of their dedication.

Would like to see our local news, or extension show have more coverage of the playing time than just a quick quip.

  32. CoolEthan October 6, 2011 7:58 am

Good we have coach Tomey on our side regarding the Nacho man’s tendencys. I agree, that guy is the real deal

  33. CoolEthan October 6, 2011 8:09 am

Plus the other past San Jose safety that went to the Jets. forgeting his name, but had same qualities. He gave Brennen fits, but Colt still trumped him with that OT win at their home field.

  34. d1shima October 6, 2011 8:19 am

Whoa! Wat is dat crackin’ sound and ground rumblin’ coming from the Manoa area? 😉

Looking forward to some great news following this Scout Bowl! Lots of promising talent in this group!

I find it absolutely hilarious that the Big Least is looking pretty far WEST for teams. There is no geographical sense to this merry-go-round anymore.

    Anyways, Go, Warriors!!!

  40. Derek October 6, 2011 8:42 am

Cool Ethan, that would be Dwight Lowery.

Garrett, thanks for all the recruiting prospects. That’s one of the best parts of this Hawaii WarriorBeat, besides reading about the existing Hawaii Warrior program and the players and the coaches. Much mahalo

  47. Pomai October 6, 2011 9:34 am

Just one thing from the scout bowl – Mr. Graves you had better up your stock cause stump is the real deal. He throws a beautiful ball, tight long ball 50-60 yards.

  48. Slugger October 6, 2011 9:36 am

    Good morning, gang!

The Scout Bowl was fun! Bubba had a couple of INTs. Yay! All 3 young QBs have strengths. Kevin & Stump have good long balls. Forget if Jeremy got a long pass out. Stump throws a tight spiral, pretty. The D gots “sacks” a couple of times. Stump did a good job moving around under pressure & making throws. Breydan!

  49. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 9:38 am

Raining in Kaneohe, hope the skies are sunny and bright in Manoa…

    morning world!

  50. Slugger October 6, 2011 9:38 am

Gramps, practice was on Ching Field, so they could get good film. DPK did show up with Myki, Pomai, and Coach Torres. Protector was there, too.

  51. Slugger October 6, 2011 9:42 am

  55. Kevin October 6, 2011 9:49 am

Long balls ain’t s*** without time to throw them and without receivers to get separation.

  56. SailorBlue October 6, 2011 9:52 am

Tommue ~ Just saw the e-mail, Mahalo for the note. Gonna be fun!

  57. SailorBlue October 6, 2011 9:53 am

  58. haka October 6, 2011 9:55 am

    Thanks for the update Slugger!

With the candidates we have and with recruiting done for QB, it looks like the QB position will be in good hands! Now they all just have to “get it”….**click**…

    Rainbows in the Valley!

  59. homey2 October 6, 2011 9:56 am

Long balls ain’t s*** without time to throw them and without receivers to get separation.

:-0 I could do so much with this one.

  60. (Jesse)James October 6, 2011 9:57 am

Man…seems like the next game is soooo far away…

Hey, UHFan808…You have any pics of my co-workers from the T-Gate…They were wondering …. Thanks.

  61. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 10:03 am

    (J)J

Yep seems far away.. but I woke up this morning thinking the season had only started then realized we are over 1/3 of the way through it.. after SJSU we will have played 6 games… we gotta find a way to milk the next few weeks!

  62. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 10:11 am

I suppose, if our coaches went out to recruit the players they “really” wanted, we’d end up with no recruits in March. Got to find those hidden gems, those unpolished rocks, keep their whereabouts a secret until we can put em under lock and key. As such, their woke may be many times more time consuming and laborious than those recruiting for the upper echelon of football programs. All that with less money.

  63. koakane October 6, 2011 10:17 am

    #59 go for it

mih thanks again for the link. so far up to episode 20. loosing sleep and time reading blogs bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

  64. (Jesse)James October 6, 2011 10:19 am

MIH…#61…Tru dat…It’s agonizing when there aren’t any UH games going on…Then, before we know it, the season is over…and we are in the doldrums again waiting for another college football season to begin….

  65. Bowwar October 6, 2011 10:19 am

Better start looking for a good MLB since Paredes will be gone next year and Lyles is fragile. We can always use DBs and a new DB coach too.

  66. (Jesse)James October 6, 2011 10:20 am

Eh, homey2….Mwahahahahahaha…Now I know that isn’t the real homey is it??? Must be gramps….

  68. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2011 10:38 am

Justin Vele looked good today. He had a sack.

  69. Graham October 6, 2011 10:47 am

I do not think we need a new DB coach. Coach Miano is good for the program

  70. midori7 October 6, 2011 10:54 am

Will the Nevada game time change since it will be shown on ESPN?

  71. tommui October 6, 2011 10:58 am

    SAILORBLUE #56/57 I’ve been called worse! 🙂

  72. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 11:01 am

Its good to see some “common sense” regarding this Big 12 expansion.

TCU is within the footprint, they provide a GOOD FB program, but they dont necessarily provide HUGE tv $$$ to the Big 12.

  73. Kevin October 6, 2011 11:03 am

    Passing

    • Jeremy Higgins — 7 of 10 for 69 yards, one touchdown, one interception.

    • Kevin Spain — 3 of 3 for 86 yards, one touchdown.

    • Stump Godfrey — 1 of 6 for 17 yards, one interception.

    Thank you for posting this.

  74. Kevin October 6, 2011 11:04 am

Good thing none of our QBs threw the ball 50 yards while sitting on the ground…

People might be screaming… “NFL PROSPECT!!!!”

  75. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 11:06 am

Hopefully losing 3 important players in the Big LEast in the past couple of months will provide more incentive for UCONN, Louisville, Rutgers, and West Virginia to bolt ASAP.

And hope that somewhere in the chain of command Navy comes to its darn senses and realizes they CAN survive as an independent just like Army will, just like BYU wanted to etc. and forgets this Big East nonsense.

    Down with the Big LEast.

  76. koakane October 6, 2011 11:07 am

Eh, homey2….Mwahahahahahaha…Now I know that isn’t the real koamahu is it??? Must be JJ

  77. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 11:15 am

    Passing

    • Jeremy Higgins — 7 of 10 for 69 yards, one touchdown, one interception.

    • Kevin Spain — 3 of 3 for 86 yards, one touchdown.

    • Stump Godfrey — 1 of 6 for 17 yards, one interception.

Can’t make too much out of these stats…

70, 100, 16 % … Good to see that Spain is back in the game, though.

  78. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 11:16 am

If there are suddenly more independent teams.. should Hawaii simply walk out of their final negotiations with the MWC (Versus) and go independent?

  79. haka October 6, 2011 11:23 am

The QB #’s seem about right in relation to recent participation time.

    Yeah, Go Bubba!

  80. SteveM October 6, 2011 11:24 am

    Good morning everyone!

Scout Bowl is great for everyone, I think. Too bad they are only on bye week.

  81. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 11:24 am

The Western Athletic Conference’s problem this football season isn’t the now-infamous 22-minute replay. It is irrelevance.

    – Ferd’s Words

… sad but, I gotta agree, it’s pretty true… More the reason why Hawaii needs to win the WAC title.. anything less will a shame.

  82. A-House October 6, 2011 11:27 am

    Bowwar #65:

Isn’t Branden Daley supposed to fill the MLB position? like 6’5″ and 240# with a motor to boot!

Is he “red shirting” in 2011?

  83. A-House October 6, 2011 11:29 am

Now that TCU has started to “pull out of new conference” – wonder how many others will follow suit?

Like, BYU from independent to Big 12.

  84. ai-eee-soos October 6, 2011 11:33 am

” … Isn’t Branden Daley supposed to fill the MLB position? like 6’5″ and 240# with a motor to boot! Is he “red shirting” in 2011? … ”

Branden Daley is redshirting this year, due to a foot (leg ?) injury.

He will still have 2 years to play 2, per ST.

  85. Couch potato October 6, 2011 11:33 am

i thought Daley was an elephant. could be wrong since i have difficulty in identifying animals.

  86. Couch potato October 6, 2011 11:34 am

    long balls and sacks. 😆

  87. ai-eee-soos October 6, 2011 11:53 am

HEY — merge the Big East with the WAC.

call it the Big East – West Conference.

    main t’ing get BCS AQ.

or call it the S A C ( Sorry Azz Conference ). lol

but, main t’ing get BCS AQ.

  88. Da Punchbowl Kid October 6, 2011 12:14 pm

    Howzeet Gangeez! 🙂

Da future is bright, das all I can say. All the QBs looked good, the defense was tough and Bubba was the star of the show. Give Stump some time to get the timing down and learn the offense and he’ll be a real challenger for the QB spot. He does, as some have already said, throw a beautiful ball. To be honest all all the QBs did at this morning. The RBs looked strong too. LOTS of good young talent on this team.

Nice to see some fellow Tsaikos there, as well as Coaches Stant and Torres, a couple of ex -Red Raiders who are coaching it up in the preps. Great to talk to Reggie again. Its easy to see why all of his children, incuding Richard are such terrific athletes.

A special shout out to the Anuenue Rainbows football team, who practiced at Ching Field after the Warriors were pau. A very inspirational bunch of young men.

  89. Da Punchbowl Kid October 6, 2011 12:18 pm

homey aint here but his humor still kills…

homey needs to find a way to monetize his sense of humor. Buggah would be rich I tell you!

  90. Da Punchbowl Kid October 6, 2011 12:19 pm

You guys shoulda seen Pomai’s hat this morning. Was awesome I tell you!

  93. d1shima October 6, 2011 12:41 pm

More important than the collective 11 completions is what the QB’s answer to, “What did you see?” on the 6 incompletions and 2 piks.

  94. Curt October 6, 2011 12:58 pm

Thanks for the Scout Bowl updates everyone. Good to hear we’ve got talent in the wings.

  95. Da Punchbowl Kid October 6, 2011 12:58 pm

    A-House,

No moa pikcha, but let me put it like this: we had on identical hats! 😆

  96. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 12:59 pm

    DPK and Pomai…

    Twins? Auwe!

    AUWE…

    Aiyahhhhhhh!

  97. Bowwar October 6, 2011 12:59 pm

Don’t count out Spain…He was very impressive until he hurt his shoulder. As for Daley, he was never recruited for the middle, but for OLB. We need a 6’3″, 230 lb. dude with wheels who likes to stick-it to people on the recruiting radar.

Overall, the Scout Bowl shows that there are players “in the wings” to step-up next year!

  98. polywarrior4life October 6, 2011 1:02 pm

    Good Morning ST.

Any other hidden gems that sparked a light besides Bubba on “D”?

Nice to see a lot of the offensive guys making plays…

    What’s fo lunch? lol

  99. Curt October 6, 2011 1:02 pm

Good to see that our “forgotten” QB, Spain, did well this morning. Hopefully, his shoulder has healed completely. After one year, I’m still trying to get over my shoulder issues.

  100. Curt October 6, 2011 1:02 pm

    Boom!

  101. Bowwar October 6, 2011 1:03 pm

Never said to get rid of Miano…Just said we need a new DB coach. New ideas and philosophy always helps. Miano can be reassigned to fill out areas of the defensive coaching including Special Teams…Also, we don’t know when Cal Lee may decide to call it quits.

  102. polywarrior4life October 6, 2011 1:03 pm

Noticed that there were only three running plays – par for the course in the Run and Shoot – and two where the QBs had to scramble.

On that basis, can you judge how those backs would do?

  110. Souljah October 6, 2011 1:28 pm

Jeezy…i like that prospect but needs more speed and quickness…at the moment he’s a Justin Clapp type player (high skills and IQ but a walkon prospect)

    Here’s an article about him:

  111. Pomai October 6, 2011 1:30 pm

Moment of the day – DPK standing by the Anuenue Rainbows football team, he turns to them and starts talking to them in Hawaiian, should have seen some of their faces, dis big haole man speaking Hawaiian fluently, was kind of a jaw droping moment. LOL

    CP,

If you only sitting on one couch, no need give so much barrato! 😉

  118. jeezy33 October 6, 2011 1:55 pm

    110. Heres the thing though. That guy is already Greg Salas size as a junior in high school. He’s gonna get bigger and faster. Salas wasn’t as fast as he is now. Players get faster.

Another thing to note. He plays against the highest level of competition in the country. He’s in the big boys league of Alabama.

He’s a physical guy who can block and punish DBs after the catch. It wasn’t the speed of Salas that made him so good. College corners just couldn’t cover him because of his size, route running ability, ability to make tough catches, and once he caught the ball, he was hard to bring down

  119. jeezy33 October 6, 2011 1:56 pm

ST, I got a prospect for you. You might know already but if not here it goes.

S/OLB Jordan Burton from Longview High in Texas.

  120. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 1:59 pm

What is the easiest Oline position to master? If any. Should we recruit JC there and use our existing players in the more demanding Oline positions?

  121. Couch potato October 6, 2011 2:01 pm

d1shima, ho, get planny ways fo spell barato! i wuz reclining on da couch. hahd fo moov. 😆

  122. Bowwar October 6, 2011 2:06 pm

ST- Good to hear about Vele, but we can’t be complacent…Lyle has been injury prone and has had problems stopping the run. We need another Ulbrich type: fast, big, & nasty.

Other thought, with things going South in Seattle, maybe Ulbrich might consider a coaching position at Hawaii…

  123. Bowwar October 6, 2011 2:09 pm

Speaking of offensive line positions, I hope we have a bonafide CENTER in the wings or on the recruiting radar. I believe Lefiti and Sapolu are seniors, so we’ll need a good one. Too bad we can’t recruit the Brostek kid…Its a shame as there are at least two Hawaiian centers in the NFL and neither played for UH except for Samson…

  124. d1shima October 6, 2011 2:10 pm

    Not too good a $pelling…

  125. Couch potato October 6, 2011 2:11 pm

i think all o-line positions are not easy to master since the d can throw all kinds of stunts, blitzes, alignments, and whatnot. i read somewhere on what Coach Shaw wants in terms of recruits but too lazy to search for it. or was i dreaming?

  126. Souljah October 6, 2011 2:16 pm

    Jeezy,

I agree with what you’re saying…i was just saying that he ONLY needs to improve on his speed and quickness. If the UH coaches are convinced they can do that, then UH would have a big time player. I especially love the fact that Justin is probably a Christian(based on his music on highlight reel) and Hawaii is one of his dream schools.

Burton looks good too…but why no offers?

  127. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 2:18 pm

I should clarify.. which Oline position might be easiest to master for an experienced JC transfer? Or doesn’t it make a difference? I figure we want the guy who’s going to be around a while to learn the intricacies of the more demanding position.

  128. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 2:19 pm

    #126,

I would love if we had some Buddhist on the team…But I’d settle for awesome killer players. 😛

  129. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 2:20 pm

    Souljah,

Just out of curiosity…Did you call into the Josh Pacheco show today talking about TCU and realignment?

  130. jeezy33 October 6, 2011 2:21 pm

I think Hawaii just offered. That’s why im asking Tsai to check it out and possibly confirm. Not sure what coach was heading to Texas to recruit. I know Tuioti went to Kansas and possibly Ohio.

  131. Souljah October 6, 2011 2:36 pm

Iwwthm, No i didn’t call the show…i actually don’t even listen/watch the show

Burton would seem to be a solid pick up.

  132. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 2:36 pm

Instead of “talking” about a CUSA-MWC alliance to get to a BCS Bowl in say 2 years or so…

Why not talk about such an alliance with the Big LEast.

    Rationale:

    – Better TV contract $ if they want to pursue it.

    – In 2 years when the BCS has to run the numbers again, the Big LEast could be in the same position as the MWC/CUSA in terms of failing to meet all 3 criteria.

    – The Big LEast can raid the CUSA but their numbers are still going to look junk if they lose teams like West Virginia.

  133. jeezy33 October 6, 2011 2:38 pm

I’m pretty biased when it comes to recruiting guys from Texas and the south so hoping we keep opening up the pipeline and landing some kids from there.

  134. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 2:45 pm

I wonder if UH has ever applied to the Association of American Universities.

  135. Couch potato October 6, 2011 2:45 pm

coincidentally, Wahine softball has a recruit named Jordan Burton.

  136. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 2:46 pm

    Use the force Luke.

  143. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2011 3:26 pm

    Speaking of recruiting pipelines etc.

Who is this Coach Paredez that has been mentioned NUMEROUS times on other message boards.

Apparently this guy helped bring us Mike Edwards and is looking to help UH secure an assortment of BCS-type recruits.

    Anyone know???

Here’s a quote from the mysterious Coach Paredez…

    http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=219&f=1136&t=8002449&p=2

Hello everyone. This is Coach Paredez. I usually do not chime in. I stay very busy. But I heard something like this was out there and I felt that I needed to convey to you all what’s going on. I wish that this didn’t get out. But too late. I’m just trying to send your way some quality ball players like before. it’s no secret that I place players everywhere. But I have a genuine love for the UH Warriors. And I’m a Texas A&M Aggie at that. Funny how it works out. Anyhow, just trying to send you guys some players that will help win some games. With that said, I’ll follow it up and end it with this. I’ve been working with a couple of Coaches there on two DB’s, two WR’s, and hopefully a lights out LB. Thats it. I won’t give names right now. I can’t. I dont know anything about any QB’s. Hopefully by the San Jose week, things will be clearer. I just wanted to chime in before this gets really out of control. I brought you Mikey. Those are the types of players I intend on continuing to bring you. Message me if you’d like.

  155. papajoe2 October 6, 2011 4:06 pm

UH base ball has only 18 WAC games? That’s 3 games against 6 teams. Why don’t they make it 4 games each? Seems like too few games to me.

  156. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 4:08 pm

    This might be him.. http://www.tsbowl.com/2008/coaches.php

    John Paredez, Jr., Coach

  157. madeinhawaii October 6, 2011 4:11 pm

I come to this conclusion based on what TheValleyCoach said about him on the WSN…

Coach Paredez, that brought you Mike Edwards is going to give UH some more BCS guys. I swear Pat Hill is so stupid! He is in Fresno, and Hill keeps big timing Coach P. You’re lucky Warriors! Paredez has built an allegiance there at UH, and well you’re just lucky! I know the kids. All BCS kids. Right now, two offense, and two defense. I wish I could say more. But I’ve said enough already. Maybe someone from Fresno St will read this and start dealing with Paredez. I’m super jealous! Good luck Warriors!

Softball will change slightly too when we get to the Big West.

Instead of the usual Friday singles and Saturday DHs, you will see more of, if not all, Saturday and Sunday days scheduled.

Still three game series though. No getting around that.

    Fresno State hosts Boise State

Really concerned about losing the ESPN connection at the MWC. Leaving an irrelevant conference to become part of an invisible one?

  172. papajoe2 October 6, 2011 5:29 pm

JD’s salary would be above at least 3 AD’s salary in the MWC with TCU’s the lowest at $115,639. I googled and have only 7 current MWC ADs salary. Missing is Boise, Nevada (which is at $277,000), and Fresno. New Mexico’s is high at $409,391.

  173. papajoe2 October 6, 2011 5:32 pm

Is it time to renew JD”s contract yet? If it is, I hope they renew Coach Mack’s first. If JD got mad and leaves because of his own negotiations, then Mack’s will never get done. I do like JD and think he is doing a great job.

  174. papajoe2 October 6, 2011 5:37 pm

About the baseball’s 18 WAC games, I think only Hawaii makes a small profit in the WAC. Even then, it was a while before we finished in the black again. While making up the rest of the schedule, because of the lack of WAC games, don’t we still have to subsidize the other teams, be it air fare or lodgings, etc., to make a complete schedule?

  175. Da Punchbowl Kid October 6, 2011 5:37 pm

Thank you Coach Paredez! Keep it coming!

  177. Derek October 6, 2011 7:20 pm

Kody Afusia, reshirt freshman, played center in high school and on his film he looked great, had great leverage and technique, and very agressive. I think he is targeted to be the heir apparent for the center position, but we’ll see as things develop.

  178. Tiffani Littles October 6, 2011 7:43 pm

People on film are one thing.

Coaches work with the real people… the tangible and the intangible.

It’s a gift. It takes skill to put a team together.

    Go Coaches!

  180. izzy October 6, 2011 8:26 pm

So, I’ve been looking for a new doctor. Before setting an appointment, I like to do a kind of interview and get to know his/her outlook on medicine.

I went to talk to Dr. Xaing today. On the way out of his office he gave me a borchure with a few FAQ’s on it:

Q: Doctor, I’ve heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?

A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it. . . Don’t waste on exercise. Everything wear-out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: Oh no. Wine made from fruit. Brandy distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Bottom up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have body and you have fat, your ratio one-to-one. If you have two body, your ratio two-to-one.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?

A: Can’t think of single one, sorry. My philosophy: No pain. . . good!

Q: Aren’t fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetable be bad?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Oh no! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: You crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming good for figure, explain whale to me.

Q: Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle?

    A: Hey! ‘Round’ is shape!

Well. . . I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

    And remember:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways – Chardonnay in one hand – chocolate in other – body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, “WOO-HOO, what a ride!!”

    AND. . .

For those of you who watch what you eat, here’s the final worn on nutrition and health. It’s a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1.The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2.The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3.The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4.The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5.The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

  181. Not an Expert October 6, 2011 8:29 pm

Watching body motions of UH football coaches. My guess is coach Lee is not the happiest of campers and all through has shown dignity and support to his players. Being the man at the high school level in Hawaii and going through the changes since coach Jones left has shown me how professional he is. He has been overlooked in moving up and has kept on going doing his job.

Coach Lee after retiring from UH and securing a reasonable pension go back to the high school level and do what you enjoyed doing, coaching young men the game of football and life. The best to you always.
