Left wideout Rodney Bradley was impressive during 7 on 7 drills yesterday, declaring himself “pain-free” in his surgically repaired left leg.
In last season’s game against Idaho, Bradley suffered fracures to his left tibia and fibia. Part of the operation included the insertion of a rod to stabilize the leg. The rod remains, but the pain is gone, Bradley said.
He said he is at “90 to 95 percent,” and claimed he was running at half-speed yesterday, although he was able to make sharp cuts and create space from a cornerback. He said he should be ready for the start of training camp in August.

Good news about Rodney Bradley! He is the deep threat that can really open up things for the offense, so it is great to hear that he’s able to make sharp cuts already. His recovery seems to be going well and UH needs him.
Losing out on Texas could really cost the Pac-10 financially. Instead of getting $20 million per school, they could be getting $10 million per school. It is good for UH and the WAC that the Pac-10’s Athletic Budgets won’t have that extra $10 million…that would have been a financial advantage for facilities and coaches that would have been hard to overcome.

BSU will have that USC LB for the next 2 seasons. However it sounds like he hasn’t finalized his choice for some other school could grab him.
West Virginia and Michigan both have reported that they violated NCAA rules by having non-coaches coach during practice. UH needs to be careful this if Ashley Lelie attends UH practices this season…the limit on the number of coaches is a rule that the NCAA seems to be emphasizing for enforcement. If Michigan and West Virginia can get in trouble for this, they aren’t going to ignore other schools.

With Mack already publicly saying that Lelie will be UH’s WR coach without actually being on the coaching staff, he’s already invited the NCAA to monitor UH’s situation. So, UH needs to be very, very careful or the NCAA could pay them a visit.

No rumors for the Big 12, Big 10, or SEC. It sounds like the ACC and Big East have been spared from being raided.
The only conferences now that have decisions to make are the MWC and WAC.
The MWC could invite 1-2 more teams that could help with their chance for AQ status, but they have to worry that they will get less money since other teams won’t bring in enough and their TV contract will be split among more people. From looking at the computer rankings in 2008/2009, it appears that only Houston, Fresno, and Nevada could improve the MWC’s computer ranking, but none of them improve it nearly as much as BSU did. If Fresno or Nevada (or UH!) dominates the WAC after BSU leaves (or even starting this year), that school would earn enough BCS points to be attractive to the MWC.
The WAC could invite a D-IAA school or stay with 8 teams. The drawback of inviting a D-IAA school is that they won’t bring much revenue to the conference (TV, basketball, bowl games) so the rest of the schools will get less. Also, the D-IAA school will count as a D-IAA school even when they are a WAC member for at least 1 year. The WAC could stay at 8 teams, but then if other teams leave they wouldn’t have enough teams for a conference.

The MWC will be able to count Utah’s BCS points for the BCS evaluation period (2008/2009/2010/2011). So, they might be a BCS AQ conference in 2012.
However, losing Utah will hurt the MWC’s BCS points for 2010/2011/2012/2013, so they will need to invite a team or two after the 2011 season to keep their AQ status (or, to earn AQ status is they don’t get it in 2012). That means that whatever team that wins the WAC in 2011 would be in a good position to join an AQ conference.
The possibility of a school earning AQ status by their performance on the field hasn’t happened very often. If the MWC gets/keeps AQ status in 2014, they might have it for as long as the BCS system exists. So, the WAC title races in 2010 and 2011 could be a unique opportunity for a MWC/WAC merger…but only the top of the WAC would be moving to the MWC.
TV market size, travel costs, travel time, and a lot other factors work against UH. However, I believe that AQ status for the MWC trumps all of their other concerns…so, if UH dominated the WAC in 2010 and 2011, they would be the MWC’s only option to keep/get their BCS AQ status. Beating BSU this season would be nice because it would hurt the MWC now and rack up a LOT of BCS points for UH.
If BSU, Nevada, and Fresno State are the top 3 teams in the WAC this season (as experts are predicting) and Nevada and Fresno State are the top of the WAC in 2011, then Nevada and Fresno State will probably have enough BCS points to make/keep the MWC a BCS AQ conference. The MWC would invite them and they would accept. If UH wins the WAC instead, the MWC will need to invite UH to make/keep AQ status.
The nice thing is that everything will be settled on the field. The BCS AQ rules do *not* care about TV contracts, market size, travel costs, or anything else. All the computers care about are wins and losses. So, the Warriors control their destiny. And the next 2 football seasons may forever determine what that destiny is.
I kind of like the situation–UH, Nevada, and Fresno State can settle on the field who merges with the MWC. All 3 might actually earn enough BCS points if they win their nonconference games.
I also like that the evaluation period starts in 2010. So, nothing that happened in the past matters and everybody starts from scratch.
UH has shown in the recent past that they can do it. For the 2006/2007/2008/2009 evaluation period, UH earned more BCS points than any WAC team aside from BSU and any MWC aside from Utah/TCU/BYU. UH also ranked high in 2004/2005/2006/2007.

Basically, the Warrior football team’s next 2 seasons could determine the type of conference all the rest of the UH teams will get to play in for the next decade or more. I like that the BCS formula doesn’t care about things like travel costs and TV markets…win and you earn points, lose and you lose points.

per Garrett, it appears that having too many coaches is a violation. Why, if they are not paid, so what? Is it like having too many tutors academically??? If Lelie is a consultant, is that same as a coach? The logic of NCAA about too many coaches kind of boggles the mind. Having volunteer coaches is a good thing in my mind. NCAA probably considers it an unfair advantage…I could understand it if the coaches played the game, but it is the student athletes that strap it up!

Mountain West might not get the points from Utah to make their AQ status for two reasons:
The BCS may not allow the points for a departing team (lawyers will argue over this).
A chain reaction from Nebraska moving to the Big 10 in 2011– Nebraska goes in 2011, then Colorado goes to the Pac 10 in 2011, and Utah goes to the Pac 10 in 2011. So 2011 Utah points won’t count.

Lelie *is* serving as a student manager for UH–doesn’t that mean that UH is compensating him (tuition)?
USC tried to get a volunteer coach to be in charge of their special teams. They didn’t pay the volunteer and hoped that the NCAA would not care. The NCAA ruled that was a violation.
If the NCAA allowed volunteer coaches, the SEC would have dozens of “volunteers” who are not paid by the school…but I’m sure that the boosters would take care of them.

Didn’t the BCS already rule that departing teams could count towards AQ qualification? Louisville is a good example of this. Louisville’s points earned by dominating the C-USA counted for the Big East and enabled them to keep their AQ status. This is the same thing as the MWC replacing Utah with a team (or combination of teams) that earned the same level of BCS points in the WAC or C-USA.
Well the dust is settling somewhat on the WAC. Thank goodness it’s only dust, this time and not the sun setting (took out the “l”).
The way I see it, our FB and men’s BB coaches have a one year window to have people say, “uh, maybe we should have looked harder at that school (UH).” Goes back to what all have been saying, a .500 season is not going to cut it, nor will a 6-4 record with no wins against the likes of USC, Colorado, FSU and BSU, nope.
UH has to win and has to win the hard way, on the road against their toughest WAC rivals and Colorado. People may still not take notice, so if BSU is going to leave and we can absolutely destroy them, we need to. Run it up, beat them into the blue turf, whatever.
I like to be optimistic on the matter and will give the benefit of the doubt to our head coach and AD. But if it is a .500 season, I’d like to see JD get brave and find bravery quickly.
Regarding Mr. Arnold, well I liked his honesty regarding his recruits and I get the feeling that he will do something that should have most men’s bb fans happy that he’s here.
It’s all about winning.

Louisville is part of the MWC argument for AQ status, but the BCS is not strictly like a court of law, and there are some differences (I don’t know what they are) that the BCS could fasten on.
The MWC believes that they will get favorable ruling because of Craig Thompson’s time spent with the BCS as a non-voting member. He can make a call and get the ear of the BCS.
I think the MWC could lose out though if Colorado goes to the Pac 10 in 2011 when Nebraska enters the Big 10. If the Pac 10 takes in Colorado, they may want Utah then too (or not).
So I would say, looks good for MWC but not clear.

The Pac-10’s TV contract doesn’t run out until after the 2011 season. So, they need Colorado for their new TV deal in 2012. Having Colorado leave early would just make them split their TV money with an extra team.
Boise State’s BCS standings will count toward the MWC in the next BCS evaluation period. What holds the MWC back is SDSU, UNLV, NM, Wyoming and CSU. Get rid of the dregs and MWC has a shot.

Ashley Lelie’s intent is to complete work to earn a bachelor’s degree.
UH usually pays for such players to finish their degrees. Lelie will assist the team, as a student manager, but unlike a coach or even a graduate assistant, he won’t have actual coaching duties. So, yeah, if players want to ask his advice, they may. But he might not even be available for every practice.

Looking at the final standings for women’s softball it appears that the voters got it right. Hawaii beat Missouri and Alabama and in spite of those schools lofty ranking prior to the NCAAs, Hawaii ranked ahead of them in the final showing.

A few minutes with Landon Donovan
U.S. midfielder Landon Donovan addressed a wide variety of topics during Tuesday’s media session at team headquarters in Irene, South Africa.
With a draw against England, the Americans are very much in contention for a round-of-16 berth. However, “In all likelihood, if we lose [to Slovenia on Friday], we are out of the tournament. That’s the reality of the situation. As much as people put into the England game, this becomes a lot more important in that way.”
Later, he added: “We haven’t always done well coming off a good result and continuing that, and so that was part of the feeling in the locker room that, ‘Okay, that was a good start but it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t get through the group.’ ”
On the big TV audience back home for the England match: “We’re getting somewhere but candidly that should be the standard. It’s the biggest sport in the world and we all understood how big this game was going to be and now making sure we don’t let down.”
How the approach to the Slovenia match will be different from the England game: “When you are playing England, you understand they are one of the best teams in the world and you don’t sort of roll the ball out and see who is better because they have better players. You have to be smart. This game we will probably be a little more aggressive and assertive, but at the same time, we are going to stick to the principles that have made us successful over the years.”

General impressions of Slovenia: “There is nothing flashy about them. There are not a few players like with England where you go, ‘We need to 100 percent stop that player or else we are in trouble.’ But they seem to be a very good team overall. They seem like they have good chemistry and they know each other well. They’ve obviously played a lot of games together. They have played difficult European qualifying and come out of it. They are just going to be solid; they are not going to be spectacular and they are going to be difficult to beat.”
Asked what it feels like to be, for a change, a favorite in a World Cup match: “Who says we are the favorites? It means nothing to me.”
On the ability to come back against England: “Our team spirit has always been our strongest point. You saw in the England game, a lot of teams go down in the first few minutes like that and they would have crumbled. Our guys stuck together, we got the goal and, in the end, had a chance to win the game. That’s our starting point. Defensively we are always very good, and what we will learn from the other night is that we can be a little better going forward. If we are, we are going to have quite a few chances to score goals.”
On the team’s spirits: “It was not like we were popping champagne afterward. Guys were satisfied with a point but nobody was ecstatic. As much that was made of the England game, we knew that was only the start of the tournament, so we know what that was all about.”
On Jozy Altidore: “Jozy has the ability at any time to pull off plays that not only guys on our team can’t pull off but a lot of guys in the world can’t pull off. Obviously the run and the shot [in the second half] are an example of that. What Jozy has improved at is being a force in other parts of the game when he is not making a play like that: How can he help our team? He did a pretty good job of that the other night. He can still be better.”
No one knew what to expect from Oguchi Onyewu, but “I have known Gooch a long time, and one thing that he does maybe better than anyone is he is ready in big moments.”
On the Adidas ball: “It’s tricky. It’s hard to navigate. It’s hard when someone plays you a long ball, it’s hard to judge where it is going, where it is coming down. It’s difficult when you are shooting to hit it properly. It seems like you either hit it perfectly or it’s going somewhere far away. As much as the goalies are frustrated by it, the players are too. You’ve seen a lot of missed chances, a lot of crosses that are mistimed, misplayed that normally would be goals.”
Asked if he prefers the older ball, he said: “I’m just old school. I like old-school shoes, old-school balls, old-school shinguards. I like what I know.”
Assessing the tournament as a whole and the low scoring after four days: “It seems most teams have played it close to the vest, and that is probably fairly typical for most teams, aside from the top teams, in the first game. You certainly don’t want to lose the first game, not only from a point standpoint, but also just from a mentality and a morale standpoint. My guess is things will open up a little more as it goes on.”
Vuvuzelas — for or against? “They are awesome. [He said it with a straight face but you got the sense that he was being facetious.] You can’t control it. They are going to blow them whether I like them or not.”
On the U.S. supporters: “Awesome. It’s hard to compete with the English traveling fans, but my guess is in the next two games we will have a heavy, heavy advantage. Well, maybe not Algeria, but it’s just makes you feel more comfortable and at home.”
The decision to linger on the field and salute the fans after the England match: “We understand that you have to thank those people for making that commitment.”
Would a draw against Slovenia be acceptable?
“A tie means we are still in the tournament, so you have to be aware of that. That being said, we understand very clearly that, if we win the game, we have a very good chance of going through.”

I don’t see the impact of realignment very good for Hawaii football, especially recruiting and recruiting the best from Hawaii.
Utah will be in the Pac 10/BCS and will recruit Hawaii along with other Pac 10 schools. Utah will have more money and resources to recruit.
The MWC will likely be an automatic BCS qualifier with several strong teams recruiting Hawaii, including BYU. Again, more money and resources to the MWC members.
The WAC will remain under threat as two of the three teams which could go to the MWC and which have scores high enough to raise the MWC score (Fresno, Nevada, and Houston) are in the WAC. WAC could have to take FCS lower division teams– not an attractive conference and schedule for recruits.

Aloha, everyone! I always enjoy reading the back and forth on these blogs. Most times, my questions get asked by others, and then they get answered by ST or Garret.
This Road to Recovery includes the whole of UH, not just Rodney Bradley.
We dodged a big bullet by having the Big 12 remain largely intact. This is a lesson that we must learn from. We must act now, hard and swift… from players, all the way up through to the top of our state government. We could have been left holding that flaming paper bag with no porch to put it on. We’ve been given new life and we need to take full advantage of it. We need people to get creative on all fronts to remove the negative stigma attached to conference travel to the Islands. The cost to bring each team here is far less than the payday we’d get for each game, if we set this up right. This is no longer just about education and some leisure sporting event to take in if we have the time or interest. This is about some serious bucks, annually, that would go a long way to improving our whole school system. We gotta take steps to make the big boys want to take us in. We don’t think big enough. Why are we so complacent with mediocrity? We need to step it up!
So proud of the Wahine Softball team! Prouder yet since I have a cousin on the team. Top ten final ranking is outstanding, but we’ve got to keep it going. I hope to watch them roll through Waikiki in a Parade of Champions with the rest of this year’s Champions. Gratz to Amber Kaufman, Rainbow Baseball, Dave Shoji (1,000 wins) and Wahine Volleyball, and my oldest son, Drake, for straight A’s throughout this whole school year.
Lots of positive things going on at our beloved school. We gotta keep it all going, and up the rest of our sports, especially our cash calves. We need these calves to grow strong and healthy, and produce for years to come! Go, Lani Moo!!!

I wen SPAK a little BP by the Wahine before this season began and as a lefty Buchanan stood out, but only because she seemed to be behind quite a bit of the girls on the team as far as hitting goes.
During the scrimmage they had before they left for the endless road trip, Buchanan was slapping and got on base quite a bit. Was odd seeing a Hawaii uniform doing that, but she is quick.
Maybe Coolen moves her to Nani’s OF in right? Depends on how her hitting comes along I guess.
But yeah, she’s probably the one we know the least about, but see her on the field quite a bit.
Ya know, alla this talk about realignment and the math and the “what ifs” is startin’ to make me feel like one of those guys in a Sci-Fi/Horror Movie. Ya know, the ones who all of a sudden have all the veins in their forehead and neck poppin’ out and then their head blows up. Yeah, that guy! 😆

Great news about Rodney Bradley; that’s what I wanted to hear!
Although I usually cheer for Nevada & Fresno State when they play NON-conference opponents, the stakes are different in the coming seasons. I want UH to steam-roll the opposition & I won’t shed a tear if the Wolfpack & Bulldogs falter outside the league. I want UH to separate themselves from the pretenders as being the most attractive candidate for consideration (to MWC or wherever) with significantly more BCS points.
Would like to hear some input: We’re planning to attend the Colorado-UH game in September. Around game day, we’re debating whether to stay in Denver or in Louisville (just outside of Boulder). Comments anyone?

WOW, it was so nice and fuzzy feeling to see Na Wahine at #7 in the national poll. Heart skipped a beat – just a wonderful feeling.
This should put some pressure on the 2011 team, but they got a terrific nucleus back from the 2010 squad that should make things smoother.

The time might be ripe to add 4 or more teams (some of these could be current Div II teams) that will comprise the WAC’s Eastern division. (The WAC may have to change it’s name to something like SWC (South-West Conference) Then, as these newly initiated teams qualify for Div I status, the conference also grows in stature.

Barring something changing drastically, Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu looks poised to get that 1st base job. Jori Jasper may still be a year or two from competiting for that.
For second base, I’d assume Dara Pagaduan would like to be in the mix for that as well as Tara Anguiano.
Again, I am only considering those that are on the team and not those that have yet to come in the fall.
For catcher, you’d think Jocelyn Enrique along with incoming lefty freshman catcher Sharla Kliebenstein will be in the mix.
For Kanani’s position out in right, you have on paper, Tagab-Cruz, but cannot rule out the other Ofs in Paragas and Majam’s backup in Brynne Buchanan.
If I were to guess today, it would be Kliebenstein at catcher, Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu at 1st, Anguiano at 2nd, and Buchanan moving over to the right in the OF.
here’s a pretty in-depth article about Univ of Northern Texas and why it might be a good thing for them to be in the WAC… like us, a few years ago they didn’t have an activity fee.. Now they are poised for the jump from FBS to D1… As a D1 team, they could be the next Boise in a few years.

@ NorthShoreFan… Those girls grad a couple of years after me. Funny thing… I used to go out with one of ’em for a couple of years… hanabata dayz. As far as da snow… not too bad, except for having to shovel every day. Da worse part is da crazy drivers… act like 80 and sunny when it’s -5 and icy… and still trying to go 70mph on da freeway.
@ Colomaohana… Was wondering why da name sounded familiar. Last time my whole gang was back home might have been around 2001 or 2002. I know lots has changed around Honokai, Kapolei, etc.

To all of you… hardest part about living so far away is we cannot catch all UH games all da time. Wish they would play football games early Saturday so it would be on tv daytime here. Instead, I sometimes have to stay up ’til 4am to finish watching when da games are close. I know da move was made in a negotiation with Coach Jones and ESPN to get us some tv time, but it’s almost worthless since most non-fans won’t stay up to watch UH at midnight or later. Main ones that stay up to watch are us displaced locals. Let da visiting team come to Hawaii and bake in da hot sun to slow them down. Why not? We have to travel to da mainland and play in da snow and freezing cold on occasion, right?
Colomaohana. Lucky for you I have friends in high places. Ask your boss for a long lunch and come down. We have a federal subsidies program that covers moms with five or more kids. If you qualify than your lunch is covered by the federal subsidy. So please come down. Invite all of the mamas too, especially the ones with less than five kids.

Looks like every hand held has a different behavior from the PC or laptop insofar as this blog is concerned… I think most of us on PCs don’t see the numbers.
MIH looks like we moving backwards with your alignment in terms of competition. Regardless, I hope all of the schools you list are close to major airports, the WAC footprint is so large, anything that helps travel cost must be considered before picking a school. Bloggers at SMU laugh at North Texas, and that was before they had a winning season last year. We need teams on par or better than current WAC teams, we need better competition for better TV contracts or the WAC members will find themselves left off the airwaves.
Kelly Majam is a deserving All-American with her offensive production. but what bothers me is nobody seems to mention her 1.000 pct on defense. what kind of pct did 2 time golden glove award winner Shane Victorino have? Different sport but just a comparison will make everybody appreciate her more.

Isn’t the core of the Big12 made up of teams that were once part of the old SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference)?
Expansion talk aside, I’d like to see us concentrate on being as competitive as we possibly can be in the immediate future. If these mega conferences had been created, we could’ve been facing extinction. We can’t let ourselves be put into that situation again. Would be good to get an idea of just how many UH fans are scattered around the rest of the US. I know there are lots of fans on the West Coast and in the Vegas area. Even where I live, I’m not the only one who sports the hunter green “H” on a daily basis. I’ve seen a couple of cars here with UH stickers on them, and one of my daughter’s high school teachers is a McKinley & UH Alumni. I also run into converted fans who were prior military who served in the islands and became UH fans while there. Can’t really do too much more with our little tv market unless we branch out to East Asia.

Louisville is a good alternative to Denver if seeing the city is not a priority. Louisville is a quiet little area about 15 mins away from the CU campus. Getting to the stadium from Denver shouldn’t be a problem on game day but do allow for 1hr-1.5 hrs to get to the campus. There’s one highway into Boulder but a number of side roads to get there that take a bit more time.
I moved to CO in ’98 and miss the old WAC. If you need additional tips on CO, happy to help.
mih, but with the wait and see attitude of Bensen probably nothing will happen. or, hopefully, something like this could be already happening behind the scenes. you think?

Apparently they (the WAC) put out feelers a few years ago.. so I don’t see why they wouldn’t try it again but maybe with some accommodations to gradually wean these institutions into D1 prospects in football while keeping our first offer/first pick options open all the way. The atmosphere is certainly rife and ripe.
If I was Benson, I would sit all the ADs down, physically or tele-conference, and put his foot down.
“Guys, we are in a world of hurt by the most recent conference alignment and unless you step up and make the WAC more attractive, we may be faced with the possibility of becoming extinct! Tell me now, if will you pledge to improve your overall sports wining %, espeically in football? Present me your plans in 60 days. If no plan or junk plan, you will be asked to leave the WAC.”
Say, what? Benson does not have the “alas” to think of or do something like this.

Another thing to look forward to next season is to see who steps up in the leadership roles.
Senior leadership carried the Wahine a LONG way this season. With the amount of freshman and sophomores contributing, it was crucial especially since the seniors started out their UH careers on a high note at the Super Regionals against the Lady Vols in 2007, they had that experience to tell the others and SHOW the others how to maintain themselves mentally and physically.
Taualii and Grimes were just so great in serving their teammates with that leadership and motivation.
Having only two seniors in 2011, it will be interesting how Gonzalez and Rodriguez will handle the responsibilites, but Gonzalez seemed pretty confident and determined when she was chatting on here last week about the situation.
In the beginning of the season I knew Grimes would be a good leader, but I wasn’t sure how Taualii, Pu’u-Warren, and Yoshikawa would fair considering they haven’t played as much as Grimes over their careers, but they stepped up. Taualii surprised me and was VERY vocal and as this season went along, she was one of my favorite players to watch. While she didn’t have the full on banner year many hoped she would stat-wise, I enjoyed seeing her constantly motivating and talking to her teammates. I especially enjoyed the way she offered her words to both Parnaby and Ricketts when they were struggling at times.
So surprises are always a part of sports and I am sure we’ll be in store for more next softball season.
Seems Texas is willing to stay put because money is not a problem right now. Doesn’t rule out changes later though. The conference will be “easier” for them to win since Nebraska has vacated. National titles might be within easier reach for them. Unless the pundits give them the “Hawaii job”…like how they did the softball team.
The WAC should expand even if the teams are perceived to be of lesser quality. BSU upgraded and left in a hurry. The rest of the WAC has been spinning wheels in mud for many years now trying to get better but not really trying to do what is necessary. The WAC gets what it produces. Same for the UH. We no commit to excell, we no get excellence. Unfortunately it takes money and individuals with a clear vision of where to go and how to get there. JJ was a visionary and he knew how he was going to get there. He took us to the edge and gave us all a taste of how we can acheive. I only hope JD and others can now pick up the slack and take us there. We’ve seen very good success this year….on a shoestring…credit to the student athletes and the coaches. For the money.. “we done good”

With all this re-alignment crap going on trying to make the BcS stronger($$$$$).
Here is an out of the box idea, cut the cord. Tell the BcS to stick it.
C-USA, Mid America, Sun Belt, Mountain West and the WAC forms their own NCCS = National Collegiate Championship Series. These six conference’s form their own playoff system for the title of National Champion.
Ok they may take a few hits for the first few years but didn’t the old AFL start out by themselves or how about the AL in baseball. You have to start somewhere, and I could see down the road that something like this could surpass the BcS. And when the BcS guys say that they are the better team just tell them “Hey prove it on the field until the stick it”
How about even have a game with the winner of the DIV I championship against the winner of the DIV II championship calling the winner the “Collegiate World Champion”
I can see where it could lead to big bucks from the TV people, especially if all the conferences would ban together and work together for a tv contract. I myself would work with FOX rather than ESPN cause FOX is hungry.

Pundit on ESPN states all this is due to tv…now that ABC and ESPN has stepped into the game, it gives FOX competition and it also allows other conferences to stand pat ..for now……

@ NorthShoreFan… K married one of my bruddah’s friends, while S married da guy just couple of houses away from dem in Honokai. My squeeze was K way back when. I used to deliver paper to everybody in Honokai and Nanakai back then.
@ Pomai… interesting idea. However, I think the Mid-major label will stick too much for the rest of the country to take this second tier seriously. Only way to regain balance would be an act of Congress to dictate to the NCAA that they come up with a plan that would include ALL D-IA programs, grouped by region, taking as much history and tradition in as possible. The BCS has to be deemed unconstitutional due to discrimination, and dissolved, while the NCAA comes back into the picture, stressing the importance of education for our STUDENT-athletes.
(Sorry… I was dreaming that everything was on a level playing field.)

Hmmm.. this BleacherReport article lists 4 teams that are FBS that the WAC could consider.. North Texas, Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Lafayette and maybe Arkansas State… These could make up a nice Eastern half of the WAC with La Tech and maybe Idaho or Utah State. For a spell it would be the weaker half of the WAC, but their current levels might make for better competition amongst themselves and develop fans along the way. La Tech will probably be the dominant force there.

Something to consider…
Good evening Tsaiko Nation, conference call with LWC as I question assitant AD Carl Clapp on the possible cancellation of the USC game as he was confident that the game will go on as schedule as JD and his staff has been pro-active with their lawyers in place, in contact with NCAA administrators and have USC officials “PRO ACTIVE” with their pending appeal favoring the game to continue with out any interruptions despite the probationary status that USC has to face.
LWC is very strong and leading financially to support UH athletics as the move to join UHAA as a Chapter will broaden their goals as to reach out further in support for present and former athletes while supporting ALL UH athletics !
Very proud to be an 8 year board member as I was re-elected for another four more years as I continue to support from my LA nest. I also got confirm that the move by Boise State has JD and his support staff moving forward to empower the conference and teams of UC Davis, Sacramento State, San Luis Obispo is not an “OPTION” as UH will remain Division 1 and schedule the BEST D-1 schools that will agree with “HAWAII” terms as the lava is still flowing and the Warriors of football will carry the “TORCH” all the way to the finish line despite “ANY” volcanic eruptions !
UP grades are tremendous on lower campus with re-furbishing Coaches offices, conference rooms and bringing in that “corporate money” that JD and his staff are tireless workers and visionarys towards the future for UH Athletics !
It’s looking good Tsaiko Nation as your AD Jim Donovan is no slouch and he really LOVES Hawaii and his number one priority is to make you folks “PROUD” of ALL UH Athletics as the hiring of this former Rainbow Warrior Offensive Tackle has been “GREAT” for the long run and insures stability and dedication to his watch as he is truly the right man for the job !

Surely, many were present at the Sugar Bowl, but how to contact/collate/store all the info should UHAD move into a more “proactive mode” for nationwide support for football – seems potential viewers/sale of games is a major driving force for ESPN or BCS conferences to consider UH as a potential member. The “bean count” must be there and surely will be a work in progress for UHAD or UH-Manoa in general as more athletic prominence =s more academic prominence. This is something that upper campus leaders must realize and beat back all the profs who are anti-athletics.
WassupDoc: hope your recognition of current and former profs in the SSC, and I will presume, at no cost, are not the very ones who belittle athletics. If yes, then NO freebies for any of them. That would really give me the case fothe ass!

Da Menehune: During these conference calls the LWC has an agenda to follow as when Mr. Clapp spoke my immediate concern was the USC game and Boise State leaving as he elaborated with confidence that Hawaii adminstrators are pro active on both situations and sitting on their laurels while twiddling their fingers waiting for the scraps was not an option.
Mr Clapp did point out that the re-alignment is slowly setteling down and that they have plans in place for the better advancement to the University of Hawaii. Utah has been given an invitation this weekend by the Pac 10 to join the conference this weekend and a desesion by Utah will come forth before next week ends.
As far as Fresno and Nevada following Boise State that question did not come up as he did not elaborate further on both of those schools jumping ship as I and my fellow LWC Board Members were mostly concern with USC still committed to the September 2nd game as Hawaii administrators are taking the necessary steps in making sure the NCAA are aware of this game being schedule for quite some time as well the importance of USC money helping the State and Athletic Department during these tough economic times!

Just got back from call the coach, Ralph, Jason, Kazz an myself where there, only had about 30 people there. Talked to coach an his wife after, good people. Coach has a left handed catcher coming in that he thinks can start right away. That will be fun never seen a left handed catcher before, say’s she knows how to call a game so he will continue with that this coming season, he feels that the game belongs to the girls so they need to step up. I like that approach.
Pomai forgot to mention that slugger was there, too. Also there were a couple people that, at first glance, looked like sj-macro and Stephen. A bunch of us saw the sj-macro look-alike, but I’m not sure if the others saw the guy that looked like Stephen. Big difference there was that this guy was bald, but still had similar facial features. Must be a day for Doppelgängers. 🙂

Tonight was my first Call the Coach show. Thanks, Kazz, for driving. Met a visiting college buddy & his wife there. Informative show. Nanci Coolen actually remembered meeting me at ASU in 2008 at the Regionals. She had some great anecdotes about the road trip. Coach will be on the road for most of the summer, recruiting.
As Pomai mentioned, it was a good Call The Coach Show. Good amount of calls and a decent turnout, I had no idea how small the area the Kanikapila Grill was.
As Pomai mentioned, it was an extra “treat” for Nanci Coolen to chat with us afterwards and share some stories from that wonderful post season road trip.

Good to hear you’ll be catching both the Army & Colorado games. Maybe, we’ll see you in Colorado. Wifey and I were trying to decide whether to stay near Boulder or in Denver. Don Weir had mentioned that the Colorado Aloha Fest was scheduling a Ho’ike and UHAA was sponsoring a tailgate. I sure would like to see us give Lane Kiffin and Dan Hawkins a very tough time (losses) on the field.
Utah will probably turn down the invitation to the PAC-10. They are getting a lot of pressure from the Utah legislature to stay in the WAC. If Utah does turn it down, that leaves Fresno St., UNLV and Hawaii as the favorites. We still have a chance although I’m not saying how much of a chance.
The loser in all of this – BOISE ST. and the Mountain West as they will not get their AQ status in the BCS.
