Alexander wins WAC award; UH lands QB and LB

Greg Alexander has been named the WAC’s Offensive Player of the Week.

* * *

The Warriors yesterday received commitments from Joey Iosefa, a quarterback/safety from American Samoa, and linebacker Liloa Nobriga of Palo Verde High in Las Vegas.
Iosefa, who is 6 feet 1 and 190 pounds, was named American Samoa’s 2007 Offensive Player of the Year in football. He also plays basketball, volleyball and soccer.
Nobriga is 6 feet 3 and 230 pounds. He attended ‘Iolani School through his sophomore year, then moved to Las Vegas, where his family had relocated. He was a promising basketball player at ‘Iolani. He played football as an ‘Iolani freshman, but not as a sophomore. Last season, he had 11 sacks.

* * *

Keala Watson did a good deed the other night. Figuring that Fale Laeli had been limited because of knee and ankle problems this season, Watson decided to relinquish his starting spot. It was a nice gesture of sportsmanship, selflessness and respect. Laeli was a starter last season, and was expected to be a big contributor this season before incurring health problems.

Our thoughts, prayers and good wishes go to Dr. Doc, who suffered a heart attack last night.

Happy birthday to Long Time UH Fan, who has been a great person for a long time.

Welcome to the Warriors Joey Iosefa and Liloa Nobriga! Congratulations to them and to the Warrior coaching staff!

  38. Garret October 27, 2008 5:24 am

Mack Brown and a few other coaches started the practice of offering scholarships early about 10 or so years ago…and the practice has really increased over the years. Now, recruits who don’t commit early may not have any available scholarships from their preferred schools, and schools that do not offer early are left out in the cold.

When Texas is basically done recruiting before the season starts and even JJ gets 23 commits already, the whole recruiting world has changed.

  49. Garret October 27, 2008 6:11 am

I know that selected athletes had early offers for a long time…but the national trend to offer almost all available scholarships early is quite a change. I remember how Texas A&M used to do a HUGE recruiting push on one of the last 2 recruiting weekends before signing day…they would bring in all of their recruits then (well after the season was over) and hope that the players would bond and all commit together.

Mack Brown came to Texas and offered 40+ recruits before they had even played their senior season. He filled up his recruiting class before Texas A&M had even brought their recruits for the big recruiting weekend, so Texas beat A&M badly in recruiting that year. In fact, the A&M coaches didn’t adapt for 3 years or so, and by then it was too late since the on-field performance of the team showed the effects of recruiting. That is a big reason why Texas is so good now and Texas A&M is not.

Mack was at Texas Tech and saw the early stages of Texas’ early recruiting and how that changed recruiting in that state. He saw how every school had to hold camps to figure out who they wanted to offer, since schools could no longer wait for players to play their senior season. And Mack has adapted well, which will show up on the field in a few years!

  53. addahknowjoe October 27, 2008 6:22 am

A few years ago I had a chance to watch Liloa play Intermediate football for Iolani against Kamehameha up at Kapalama heights. He was a one man wrecking crew! Hands down, a man amongst boys that day.

Everyone had high expectations of him. But, then he simply vanished. Only to resurface in LV doing some serious damage!

Glad to see the islands never left his heart.

Stretch – howzit, did you get your package from ST?

  65. expat October 27, 2008 7:13 am

I am getting concerned for Inoke. How many times this season has he gotten “his bell rung.” Wasn’t there a quote from Ron Lee saying that Inoke had gotten his bell rung and was seeing stars Saturday? The coaching staff needs to ensure that Inoke is not getting seriously hurt. There is no such thing as a “mild” concussion, and I don’t know what else could cause you to be “out of it” other than a concussion.

One thing we have seen from our QBs this year is an apparent reluctance to ‘fess up to injuries. I don’t know if it is because of all the competition, or what. But these guys have to understand that it doesn’t help the team to try to “play through” some of these injuries. Tyler was in way to long against Oregon State after he got hurt. Not only was he ineffective after the injury, but he almost certainly injured himself further and delayed his recovery. Inoke has apparently spent several series in a fog after getting knocked around. Again, he doesn’t help himself or the team by doing so. These guys have to be a little more responsible with this stuff.

Somehow lost in all of the great news around Alexander, which is, by the way GREAT, is the play of Funaki as we were struggling to make the offense go. His scramble and dive to get the first down I thought was also a big but maybe unnoticed moment in momentum swings. That, in my opinion was a moment when he had to make something out of nothing. He could have gone out of bounds but that dive of determination to keep a drive alive, I felt was a turning point for the team. Maybe not “the” turning point but a much needed, timely moment that leaders produce.

  91. Kekoa October 27, 2008 8:32 am

  93. Pride. October 27, 2008 8:40 am

Liloa Nobriga was seated a few seats away from Koakane during the Nevada game. He showed up with about three minutes left in the game so must have been down on the field earlier.

Kept asking Koakane to ask him where he was going to commit to, and Koakane responded, who? where? what, you know dem? I don’t know dem? who dat, I don’t know him? I finally gave up, noting the myriad of empty beer cups lying on the ground near his chair.

Glad to hear the good news about him and Iosefa. Go Warriors.

  94. Stretch October 27, 2008 8:41 am

Hawaiianbod: You do realize Mike Nolan was fired because, among many reasons, the defense can’t stop a Pop Warner team’s offense. I saw that you started San Francisco, and I laughed. (Gotta be happy about something — you beat me by 16 points. Stupid Packers bye week.)

    Congrats to Greg Alexander!

  99. da princess' classmate October 27, 2008 8:54 am

great game saturday nite. 8-5 seems like a realistic expectation now, maybe even 9-4 if we keep on improving, we should be favored in all of em except for cincy. all the tinkering the coaches did worked out beautifully. we’ve got a lot of unselfish players, bain and mouton and the qb’s. third down conversions finally improved and that was great to see.

lord knows we have a lot to improve upon, o-line, rungame w/o kealoha, conservative playcalling a tad, the only thing w/ the special teams is grasso’s punts really only travel 34-37 yds w/ bounces going our way. but that’s being nitpicky…

things are really lookin up. we have a really young o so we should keep on improving there and coach mack’s specialty is d so i don’t worry about that as much. and the recuits are loooking great too. do we see world series champion shane victorino getting honored at the next halftime show…

wac offense’s nightmare in the near future, in addition to the lb’s we got coming back- RJ, Brashton, Blaze, Paipai, TJ Alofipo, and now Liloa. love the local flavor there. sucks that we have to wait 5 days for the next game and almost a month for the next home game but at least we can look forward to many holidays this month…. 🙂

    Aloha Everyone:

Mahalo for the good wishes from everyone here – I am on my way to Kaiser Moanalua in a few minutes. Unfortunately, no visitors except for family plus it’s difficult for him to talk on the phone because of the oxygen mask.

It’s not likely I’ll be at the Na Koa luncheon today which I’d planned to attend because I can’t make the CTC show tomorrow evening.

Midori7 – still keep us on the RSVP list for Saturday and will update it later in the week. Mahalo.

    SoCal DE blowing up

    Rick Kimbrel
    Recruiting analyst

Tepa’s tale is the classic story where D-I schools want to see senior footage before tendering offers. According to Tepa, besides Hawai’i, he has received offers from Colorado State, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and Washington State.

On the season, Tepa has accounted for 40 plus tackles and 10 sacks while having to battle through double teams.

Recently Tepa took in the UCLA/Stanford game and he plans to take in more as the season goes along.

With all of the recent recruiting attention, Tepa still is committed to Hawai’i, but he is checking out other avenues.

“I chose Hawai’i because they showed a lot of early interest in me and I have a lot of relatives that live there,” Tepa said. “My good friend and teammate (linebacker) George Daily-Lyles also committed to Hawai’i.

One of the reasons that UCLA has become a school of interest is personal in nature for Tepa.

“My folks kind of want me to play close to home,” Tepa said. “But I keeping my options open.”

“The most important factor will be getting a good education,” Tepa said. “Then a good football program and good coaching.

“I have been talking to all the coaches of the schools that are recruiting me,” Tepa said. “I haven’t set any visits yet.”

The scouting report on Tepa is he’s a hard worker, with good character and makes plays. He does what is asked of him and never complains. He goes about doing his business. He has good size and speed in addition to a very quick first step off the ball make him hard to block.

Tepa also has outstanding versatility. He plays both defensive end spots and also lines up at defensive tackle on third down passing situations. He’s also an outstanding special teams player, who scooped up a loose ball after a blocked punt and raced into the end zone for a touchdown.

As a junior, Tepa was an all-league selection after accounting for 110 tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries (one that he returned for a touchdown), and one interception.

Tepa is also solid in the classroom, and carries a 3.3 GPA.

I think now that UH is in the game of getting early commits, we also have to remember that these are just “verbal” and the player can still change their mind until signing day in feb. It’s good to get excited about verbal commits, but I wont be fully excited until they can sign on the dotted line. This is something we UH fans didn’t experience too much while JJ was here.

  196. Garret October 27, 2008 12:54 pm

    concerned fan,

With the high quality recruits that the UH coaches have gotten commits from, you are not wrong to be concerned. Lots of other schools, especially those from the BCS conferences, will try to change the minds of UH’s recruits. USC and UCLA are *very* open about how they do this, as they do not let a verbal commitment deter them from trying to recruit a player.

The coaches will keep up their contact with the recruits, and I’m sure they will do all they can do within the rules to make sure their recruits do not feel neglected or forgotten. Having a recruiting coordinator like Tony Tuioti is crucial (thank you JD for the budget for that position!), as he can free up the coaches’ time to do this type of thing and Tony can make sure that everything is organized and no recruit is forgotten.

It is not good when a recruit commits and then visits other schools and his mainland parents want him closer to home. While I’d hate for UH to be a backup school for some recruits, I think that it is important that the UH coaches were able to get that level of recruit to commit early and so they have all the advantage possible to get.

The only alternative to not having schools try to change the minds of recruits would be to only recruit people that other schools do not want. Clearly it is better to get early commits from excellent players and then try to hold on to them until the NLI day when they can sign.

Having schools steal recruits away at the last second is one reason why lots of schools “over-book” recruits, expecting some not to actually sign.

SF Chronicle suggests that fantasy football players should pick up Bess now.

Miami likes the element of surprise. Two weeks ago, Patrick Cobbs had a 53-yard TD catch and an 80-yard TD catch. On Sunday, Ted Ginn Jr. had 175 yards (after having 177 the first six games). Which means you should close your eyes, put your finger down on the Dolphins’ roster, and pick up Davone Bess now.

    Loa:

Most recent O-Line recruits were the two who play center or guard, but they are transfers and Tiwanak is already on campus; unsure when Rodenhurst will be on campus. Only high school recruits I can recall was the Hilo High player (Loeffler) and player from Australia and they will probably redshirt because of age, but they are big and may, some day, be the starting tackles.

Perhaps, the Coaches are confident that the reserve O-line men will serve them well in 2009.

ST: Rodenhurst must sit out one year for the transfer rule making him eligible in 2010 with 2 years to play 2?

UH has some transfers in the wings like LaCount.

concerned fan……….please, no be too concerned. stuff like this goes on every year.

if he comes to hawaii, then you know you got a kid who is honest, loyal, and really wants to be here. that normally is the formula for a successful college student/athlete. you know, the kind you really want in your program.

should he change his mind and bolt to another school for whatever reason, then, he would not only go back on his word but also on the word to his friend who also committed here.

i do hope that he is the type formerly described. however, if he is the character of the latter, then, no problem. i wouldn’t want someone who keeps looking for greener grasses.

what’s the story of da travel roster. if players aren’t able to play in utah but are able to play against nmsu, do they have to go to utah and new mexico or does someone have to come home in order for them to go up…

As Coach Mack often says, thanks to the real Warriors who serve our country.

  220. shyloh October 27, 2008 2:03 pm

Can anyone tell me why the Warriors just do running, meetings, and films on Mondays? I know the NFL does it, but they are pros with 53 man rosters and older bodies that do need time to heal. Could the Warriors have easy non-contact type passing, catching, footwork and technique drills to increase their football skills on Mondays after Sundays rest? Maybe the players that never play on Saturdays can get the bulk of the drills to show their coaches that they are improving throughout the season.

  221. takoboy October 27, 2008 2:04 pm

will there be any endzone celebrations at da cocktail party?

  222. Mrs. A-House October 27, 2008 2:12 pm

A-House, Midori7 and MasaBoy will confirm that I am not a good sport when it comes to UH athletics…never have given an opponent kudos…ever. Well, I’m more mellow/mature/benevolent in my senior citizenship now.

First, this past Saturday’s victory over Nevada was one of the most enjoyable games I have ever witnessed. Perhaps the dismal rainy conditions added to the euphoria of trudging home wet and grungy but enveloped in the warm, fuzzy feelings of elation at WINNING such a critically important game at this point in the season. Congratulations to Coach Mack, the coaches and EVERY one of the Warriors for staying focused throughout the downpour and attending miserable wet conditions on the field and sidelines, and never losing sight of what each and every one of the players needed to do to pull out the victory! Well done!

Second, now that we beat Nevada, I feel comfortable in commending QB Kaepernick on his awesome athletic abilities. Even with binoculars from high up in the yellow section in the South endzone, I could NOT keep track of the football after he took the snap. To help our defense, I yelled and screamed all night long…”get the QB, he’s STILL GOT THE BALL!” I was totally exhausted and emotionally spent after the game and it took me the entire Sunday to recover. Man, Kaepernick’s long, slender arms and equally long, slender legs serve this athlete very, very well. No male athlete should have attractive slender calves like he has. I think mine are more muscular than his are. Nevertheless, he was fun to watch, and I’m looking forward to next season’s match-up in Reno.

  223. Stretch October 27, 2008 2:15 pm

shyloh – although the Monday practices are pretty light, they do their regular warm ups and position drills. Then 7 on 7 drills to get the weeks game plan in. They don’t do the 11 on 11 drills and not too much contact stuff. Then after about an hour, they do running/conditioning. They practice hard Tue,Wed, Thurs. Fri is another light day.

Of course everything is what I gather from the ST, sj and myki reports.

  224. Ronnie October 27, 2008 2:16 pm

  226. A-House October 27, 2008 2:20 pm

    Merv:

Sorry guy, but I pick Florida to win even with the point spread by Vegas.

    Playing on a “neutral field”?

  227. Ronnie October 27, 2008 2:22 pm

I wonder what Mark Schlabach & Bruce Feldman put in their morning coffee…

In the latest Bowl Projections on ESPN.com, Bruce Feldman has Hawai’i playing Air Force in the New Mexico Bowl (with SJSU against Stanford in the Hawai’i Bowl). Mark Schlabach has Hawai’i playing BYWhoo in the Poinsettia Bowl (with Fresneck playing Stanford in the Hawai’i Bowl). Maybe someone should explain to them how ESPN sponsored the bowl so Hawai’i would be able to play at home and sell out the stadium. And I don’t care how good BYWho is, I would still rather play a Pac-10 team than a defector.

  228. Stretch October 27, 2008 2:32 pm

Ronnie – interesting, Main thing that they think Hawaii will be in a bowl game somewhere, although we all know it is going to be the Hawaii Bowl.

  229. Stretch October 27, 2008 2:34 pm

BTW – another positive is that they also realized how big this past week’s win was against Nevada. Previous to this win, they didn’t have Hawaii playing in any bowl games.

  230. al October 27, 2008 2:36 pm

it is equally important for a team to not only be physically superior but they must out smart the opponent as well. the monday meetings and film sessions are to go over good and bad points from saturday. learning to improve from one week to another is critical.

then, the game plan is developed and explained to the team.

the rest of the week is used to hone the skills and gameplan both mentally and physically.

another key point is that the body needs to heal and refresh. going at it 24/7 will only result in a fatigued body and mind.

  231. 3-Prong October 27, 2008 2:39 pm

Liloa was my daughter’s classmate in high school. Watched him play basketball. Iolani took him from Chico Furtado at Kalaheo. Was supposedly really good at making math calculations in his head. He must have filled in some at 230#. Very athletic. Watch out after he gets in the strength program. Sounds like a future force. Go Warriors.

  232. Ronnie October 27, 2008 2:40 pm

College Football News has us playing Clemson in the Hawai’i Bowl – since they don’t think a Pac-10 school will qualify.

I was really surprised that CFN got with the program so quickly on projecting the Warriors to play the home bowl after the Nevada win.

I’d be fine with Clemson playing the Hawaii Bowl. They’re a fairly big-name team.

  235. Ronnie October 27, 2008 2:55 pm

curveball – you are most welcome for the tickets. I’m glad you had a good time and got to see an exciting game! I used Liz’ video of the winning touchdown to wake my son up this morning 😀

BowsForever – I agree that playing Clemson would be a good alternative. CBS Sportsline is projecting us to play Stanford in the Hawai’i Bowl.

  238. jm2375 October 27, 2008 3:01 pm

    Ronnie,

They also got Air Force playing LaTech in the Poinsettia Bowl. They obviously think they’ll only be 5 bowl-eligible Pac-10 teams.

For me, an interesting proposed bowl match-up is the Congressional Bowl (ACC vs Army/Navy). They got Maryland vs. Navy. It’s a Bal’more-Washington match-up. I haven’t been paying attention, but I don’t think they schedule each other regularly. Too bad. Maybe the Twerps are too sked. hehehe (sorry, hubby is a Twerp alum)

  239. A-House October 27, 2008 3:04 pm

WOW, it’s great that the “mainlanders” now think that Warriors are a good pick to fit into some bowl game here or on the mainland.

I would not mind, at all, if Hawaii plays Clemson in the Hawaii Bowl. It will be a great accomplishment to beat a BCS team in any bowl game. The ACC is not the SEC, but we were already there. Playing different teams from different conferences, especially from the East Coast, only helps UH with recruiting, scheduling future opponents, and “upgrading” their strenght of schedule. Clemson could be a very good conduit to spreading the word on Warrior football.

2008, UH has the 10th toughest football schedule in the country. I believe Washington had the toughest and it shows in their record and so do ours.

  240. BowsForever October 27, 2008 3:05 pm

Just playing in the Hawaii Bowl is the victory in itself — and right now the next opponent along the way is Utah State! According to CFN, Utah State was playing some very inspired football at Fresno, which says to me that we might have a Washington ’07 game on our hands — except we’re on the road this time. We gotta keep it up, Warriors!

The QB wheel that Tombo Ahi linked to on his blog is hilarious, btw.

I showed Aaron the clip of the winning TD from TomboAhi’s site. He looked at me and said (in his bored tone), “Mom, I watched that with you on Saturday…”

Then I showed him the clip that Liz posted and told him that this was a view from our seats, and he said (in his excited tone), “SWEET! That’s unreal!” I think he’s excited now…

The only bummer is that there are no available seats in our section for the rest of my family. Oh well, we’ll figure something out. My mom may even go to the game 😀 Yee Haw!!

Four Expectations for the Utah State game:

    1 – Expect to Win

2 – Expect to be in a Dogfight.

3 – Expect to that at sometime during the game, winning will appear to be impossible.

4 – Expect to win the game late in the fourth quarter.

  264. Jason October 27, 2008 3:48 pm

Oh yeah — and no Nā Koa lunch next week, as the team is staying on the Mainland. They said they aren’t sure how it’s going to work for those of us who have the lunch card (November 3 was included in the price).

And I talked to koakane on the phone a couple hours ago. Somebody talked to him about the debate we had at the cabana after the game on Saturday, where I adamantly proclaimed, “You do not make noise on offense!” while koakane continued his claim that he would rather have the students stand and make noise all game long. That person thought there was a rift between me and koakane because of that; to whomever it was that was concerned, no worries. koakane and I argued passionately about the issue, but we’re still buddies. (Despite my threat to bop him upside the head with his fungo bat, and his challenge for me to grab it, haha!) If anything, it was koakane who kept his cool, while I might have lost it a little bit. But even then, I was smiling as I was threatening. 😀

So yeah, no worries. All is good.

    Of course you are right.
For now MHO is to leave the prognostications about possible HB opponents to the talking heads….I like know what we going do to Aggravate Da Aggies (x2)?

btw, USU has UH as their HOMECOMING OPPONENT?!?!?

  269. Ronnie October 27, 2008 3:51 pm

So, who’s going to the Utah St game? If there was a flight out the same day, at a time I could make it, I would go…

  270. d1島 October 27, 2008 3:54 pm

NaMaSu of course is “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin” with BS-You as their Homecoming opponent this week.

  271. LizKauai [Believer] October 27, 2008 3:54 pm

    Ronnie – SWEET!

Pride. – I like what Davone said about last year’s Nevada game:
” i hope my boyz can beat NV tonight last years game was the biggest win of the season i think we really came together as a team at that point”

It felt like that on Saturday too. A little herky jerky in places but together in the mind and heart.

In that spirit- I will do my best if called upon to represent the Tsai-ko nation in anthem-singing and I will have cheat sheets ready if needed! ❗

  272. d1島 October 27, 2008 3:56 pm

    Ronnie,

What? And miss all the fun of Homecoming in Logan? 😆

  273. (Jesse) James October 27, 2008 3:58 pm

Yeah…UH (and the fans) need to take things one game at a time. Never overlook anyone lest things like Appalachian State beating you will occur. Focus on the game at hand, go over the game in your mind when you are not practicing, go over your plays in your head (take mental reps), and practice like you were playing the game……

    GO WARRIORS!!!!

Congrats on being named WAC Offensive Player of the Week…a well deserved award for your great play this weekend. Glad to see you finally living up to your potential and hype and settling in to such a complicated offensive scheme. I had doubts, but you definitely showed me you can run our offense well and make sound decisions, very impressive performance. Look forward to seeing more of your strong arm, keep working and help Inoke get us to a Bowl Game…peace!

A couple lineman on both sides of the ball, and a few more skill position players and we’ll be good. As far as overall talent goes, this has got to be one of the best recruiting classes so far, especially with all the home-grown, local ties talent!

    Pauoa Boy:

That’s it guy, keep working on getting your across the street neighbor instrested in Hawaii. Any indication talking to his Dad that Hawaii may be a possibility?

The U’tube for him is amazing as a runner and blocker – kind of talent we would need in a “run ‘n shoot” offense Coach Mack wants to develop.

Perhaps JJ’s system kept other running backs from considering Hawaii, but Coach Mack’s system places more emphasis on running and some young, good RB will shine soon.

  307. A-House October 27, 2008 7:41 pm

Hawaii Bowl interest is growing amongst the Tsaikos and the Warriors will take it game by game to qualify.

Not to over look any opponent – play your best – “trust” in each other, your techniques, your coaches!!!

  308. A-House October 27, 2008 7:43 pm

    Just-a-wondering:

Any one know why the same 3 Warriors make a “bee-line” for the locker room as soon as the game is over?

  309. Shyloh October 27, 2008 7:44 pm

Now that we have Alexander as the quarterback, Funaki ready on call, can we get Rego as the running back. LWJ must be a hard worker in practice to get his token carries in every game. I always wondered why JJ never used LWJ during the end of last season. I know Rego is a tough runner and may help Farmer making the key blocks to protect our quarterbacks. Libre must still be hurt. If these RB’s were at full strength we would have a solid running game and be more confident against teams like Utah St. and NMST. Because everyone has a injuries we must squeeze every time our offense has the ball, hoping there is no turnover.

    A-House and al,

I haven’t been able to get over to the school and watch the practices cause I’ve been working later than normal the past week or two. I will send the head coach an email tommorrow and see what happens. Not sure if Tony Tuioti has made an effort to contact him, so I’ll give it a shot.

The couple games I’ve been to he’s definitely been impressive and his stats are pretty good considering most of his damage is in the first half of games and he usually is sitting out most of the second half. If he was in for 4qtrs, he’d be headlining the stat sheet for sure. I’ve talked to some people about him and they gave me the inside scoops on his offers and his dad. His dad is a ASU alum and is encouraging him to go ASU or to a PAC-10 school. UNLV and New Mexico have already offered him with others in pursuit. The sources say he’s considering UCLA, Arizona, ASU, San Diego State, Fresno State, New Mexico and UNLV. He’s attended ASU’s football camp last year.

    Hello Gangees:

Sorry to be MIA this weekend. I don’t remember the last time I worked so hard in such a short time. Lots of gigs and lots of meetings, but in our business it’s good to be busy so you gotta take it when you can get it and love every minute of it.

Anyway, glad you all enjoyed the CDs. I’ll be bringing my sharpie to the next tailgate to get them all autographed for you guys.

I have to shout out to Duffer and Whitey. Those 2 guys were so fun to hang with, and they definitely win the award for making this Honolulu person feel very welcome on Maui. Me and my Bro Kaipo watched the game at Tiffany’s with them, amidst a ridiculously huge spread of all kinds of food that Duffer kept ordering. Duffer kept buying me beers even though I kept saying I was good. But the best part – the waitress carded me! Must say, it was a great evening all in all. Plus I got to take home a sample of his homemade Portugese Sausage. Oh, so ONO.

Thanks to the Oahu Tsaikos for taking care of my ohana who stayed on this side of the Molokai channel. I read most of the posts, so I almost feel like I didn’t miss the tailgate. So proud to call you all friends.

That Texas Tech kicker who literally came from the stands and ended up playing for the #6 team in the country did quite well on Saturday in his first game.

A little more than months ago, Williams won free rent for a year at Lynnwood Townhomes after he came out of the stands and kicked a 30-yard field goal during a radio station promotion.

Williams went nine-for-nine in extra-point kicks in his first game with Tech last weekend. But since Williams can’t accept the free rent because of NCAA rules, Wisian plans to give it away to someone else.

Doc is resting comfortably, and stable for now. Sends his thanks to all the Tsaiko’s for their healing prayers. I don’t want to go into any details because of the privacy issue, but suffice it to say that Doc will need us to keep him in our prayers.

Funny thing is, the nurse said that while W/Doc was visiting, Doc’s blood pressure was peaking. After the first 5 minutes of visiting with me, his pressure went down to normal and stayed that way the whole time I was there! Like a said in an earlier post…he’s a real stand-up guy!

  344. BG October 27, 2008 9:23 pm

When I got up Sunday morning and basked in the euphoria of the game, I realized that I was so impressed by great effort by all on the team. The strength of their determination was tangible. I saw the defense hitting hard and making Nevada earn everything. Some of their big plays were just phenomenal plays by great athletes. Their QB deserves all his press clippings and his running back (Taua) balanced their offense with his power and shiftiness.

Our offense showed me spunk and grit with QB’s who dove for first downs or threw blocks for their teammates, and WR’s who stayed on their feet after the catch to maximize the YAC.

With play like that, I’m a happy fan…win or lose. THANK YOU WARRIORS!!!

These prices and plans should be finalized between Nov 6-10th. I will have
our lead charter group agent get in touch with you with all the details at
    that time.

    Non-Charter (Custom Travel)
We have put in our requests with Hawaiian Airlines, however they are only
taking group requests at this time. Once we get confirmation and pricing I
    will let you know.

We are holding a block of seats with Delta Airlines on various patterns and
expect to have the pricing finalized by the end of this week. We’re also
holding United Airlines but are still negotiating that price. I believe
that Delta (connecting through Salt Lake City) may be our best bet
pricewise as we have been able to secure the lowest inventory available.

Again, sir, please know that you are our top priority and will be called
first when the above prices are finalized. We want to provide you with all
of the options so that your group can make the best choice.

    OK, I’m back!

OK, nobody noticed I was gone.
Anyway, I spoke with Doc today and she said Dr. Doc is undergoing open-heart surgery tonight. Our best to him, of course.
It’s also a blessing that she was near a car when he passed out. I think her driving probably saved his life.

By the way, to clarify an earlier post, no, I do not drink alcohol before games, although my writing might indicate that.
And, no, I don’t drink after games, either. I’m a cop magnet.

If the Phillies win, Shane Victorino should donate some $$$ to St. Anthony school to renovate the buildings and rebuild their sports program. Their hurting because of the massive exodus of star players from such sports as football and baseball. (Many have left for Baldwin.) Their football team had to combine the JV and varsityt teams. The athletes are wearing shirts that says, “we may be few, alot has left, but make no mistake, we will fight on.”

No wonder there was a pic of Koakane with a bat in Liz’s album, I thought he was just “trying” to be Kamehameha and stand tall.

I wonder if Mack and the coaches will be checking out some of the Texas talent next week while they stay up in El Paso?? It would be great to be getting more committments.

    Stretch,

I’m sure that the coaches will be evaluating talent in Texas when they are out there. If I remember correctly, Ikaika Malloe was in charge of recruiting in Texas at his previous job, so he must have some ties there.

The way recruiting in Texas goes, pretty much all of the colleges in Texas (especially the ones in the Big 12) are out or almost out of scholarships, as they got their commits before the season began. I’ve mentioned this earlier as an opportunity for UH, since players who have big senior seasons and improve a lot in the offseason before their senior year (which is pretty normal considering the growth process in high school) may not be able to get offers now from Texas schools. Some *really* good players get overlooked this way!

One example with this is that Chase Daniel couldn’t get an offer from Texas until right before signing day because they have Colt McCoy and Ryan Perrilioux committed already. So, he ended up going to Missouri and the criticism of the coaches was really loud…until this season when Colt McCoy has done so well.

  396. Garret October 28, 2008 5:19 am

I hope that Dr. Doc is doing well today. Kekoa, thank you very much for the update on him…it is great that you could spend time with him yesterday!

  397. Warrior in Georgia October 28, 2008 5:29 am

I’m glad the Warriors pulled it out on Saturday, thanks again defense. I just have to say though that even though Alexander played well, what Mack did to Graunke was wrong. He played him two series in the driving rain and the o-line didn’t help him out much, let alone the play calling and now he’s back to third string. What a crock. Coach, if your really going to evalute your quarterback, how bout not in the middle of a rain storm and more than two series. I don’t believe Alexander is the long term answer and I’m sure after another quarterback comes in and saves the day for us, Coach Mack will switch again. Unbelievable.

    Great Morning All!

Best wishes for DrDoc; hope all went well with surgery.

Welcome (back?) to the WB Warrior in Georgia. Must respectfully disagree with your assessment of TG in the last game. First pass was a quick throw behind Mouton on a bubble; next one, he had ample time but made a very poor decision for a pick. I believe despite the adverse weather conditions, TG showed something still was off and that Mack’s decision at halftime was a sound one.
With a full week of reps this week, I hope your prediction about GA doesn’t come true. The team is at the point where it needs to start looking to the future rather than waiting for someone to catch up.
