Punahou’s Torres chooses UH

Punahou’s Dakota Torres has made an oral commitment to sign with the Rainbow Warriors.

Torres, who will be a senior this coming academic year, is 6 feet 2 and 240 pounds. He can play tight end, linebacker and long-snapper.

At the PIAA combine, he bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times.

Here is his highlight video: Torres video.

Torres is the fifth member of the 2014 recruiting class. The others are:

• Samuela Lauaki, DL/OL, Cathedral High (Los Angeles)

• Daniel Lewis, RB/CB, New Iberia (La.) High

• Larry “Tui” Tuileta, QB, Punahou

• Manly Williams, LB/S, Farrington

It was early. And it rained. But Damien Packer and Dustin Elisara were among the players who participated in the 5:55 a.m. workouts today:

Haven’t heard much about this kid from Punahou but he looks to have a good frame.

  2. PONO June 21, 2013 8:43 am

Hopefully this is the start of a Manoa to Manoa pipeline with all the studs there.

  3. madeinhawaii June 21, 2013 8:44 am

  7. A-House June 21, 2013 8:57 am

Project your thoughts to 2016 as UH opens its football season with QB Tuileta tossing passes to Dakota for TDs – a definite Punahou connection!

  8. tommui June 21, 2013 9:00 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

    GO PUNAHOU!

  9. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:01 am

    Stupid joke Friday…

I realized I need to workout after I went to Costco and couldn’t pull the shopping carts apart. So I had one of those workout gyms delivered to my house and now I can’t rip apart the cardboard. Finally, I met my friend at Ala Moana park to jog, he jogged while I sat on the wall looking at the bikini bods.

    GO RECRUITS!

  10. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:03 am

Working out before 6:00 a.m. takes a lot of dedication. That’s why I don’t do it.

  11. Stephen Tsai June 21, 2013 9:06 am

    There are three sessions: 5:55 a.m., 7:55 a.m., and 12:55 p.m.

Most of the players choose the earliest session.

  12. TKT June 21, 2013 9:06 am

    Did Fitou Fisiahi decommit?

  13. Naks8 June 21, 2013 9:07 am

Go get um! Keep local talent in state

  14. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:07 am

    Congrats to the Heat.

A Spaniard and a Mexican were playing basketball…Juan on Juan.

  15. Da Punchbowl Kid June 21, 2013 9:11 am

    Dakota Warrior! Love it!

Nice lookin’ young uns in the early commits! Keep up the great work, coaches!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  16. SteveM June 21, 2013 9:13 am

    Good morning everyone!

    Welcome to the 2014 Warriors!

Couldn’t beat the SPAM, but maybe I’m #15 today. 😕

  17. Da Punchbowl Kid June 21, 2013 9:14 am

You’re in fine form today, jimmy the lock! 😆

  18. Stephen Tsai June 21, 2013 9:14 am

Fitou is in that soft commit category.

    These five are solid.

  19. Stephen Tsai June 21, 2013 9:14 am

I don’t like the Heat, but I love that intro song. So it’s a wash.

  20. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:15 am

What’s the difference between CG and an egg?

    An egg gets laid.

  21. A-House June 21, 2013 9:16 am

    DPK:

I always thought it was Lakota Sioux – u know, the ones that wiped out “yellow hair” at the Little Big Horn – now comes Dakota Torres – one mean LB or TE or LS!

  22. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:18 am

I rather have Lebron and the Heat than Kobe and the Lakers.

  23. A-House June 21, 2013 9:18 am

da Spurs like the Celtics and Lakers are done and gone – just to many older players

  24. Buffoman June 21, 2013 9:22 am

#9 Jimmy, damn, I thought I was the only one who got cold sweats everytime I approached those Costco carts to pull one out for the wife. Couple times, I had people waiting behind me while I wrestled. Now days, I make sneaky and make like I am the helpful guy. I watch when the old folks pau load up the car and get ready for put the cart someplace near (but not in the cart station, too far for walk), so I go tell ’em, “I take da cart for you.” That way, no look weak trying to bust out one cart in front the store.

  25. PolyMom June 21, 2013 9:25 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII FANS!

Seems like the Sons of Oahu are committing to stay and play in the ” Manoa Mist”.

The way we are recruiting we are going to have the NEW Polynesian Platoon at UH.

    Go Warriors!

    Beat SC!

  26. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:29 am

A-House, the average age for the Spurs is less than the Heat. 28.2 vs. 31.2. They even have a younger average age for the starting five.

  27. Stephen Tsai June 21, 2013 9:29 am

    PolyMom:

Kudos to your son, who has adopted Saui for the summer.

  28. Stephen Tsai June 21, 2013 9:30 am

    Danny Green = John Starks.

    I was having flashbacks.

  29. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:31 am

Buffoman, it looks worse when I struggle with the mini carts at Longs.

  30. Stephen Tsai June 21, 2013 9:33 am

I’ve told this a zillion times, but UH once brought in a defensive tackle to be Gilbert Brown-like. They just needed a big guy in the middle. Well, the guy decides to get healthful and he loses a bunch of weight. He’ll live longer, but he wasn’t Gilbert Brown.

Danny Green needed to be Ray Allen, Shane Battier, Mike Miller or Bo Barnes: Stand in the corner and shoot 3s. He’s not supposed to drive. Ever.

  31. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:33 am

John Starks looks like he has cotton balls in his mouth.

  32. Stephen Tsai June 21, 2013 9:35 am

John Starks is my favorite Knick. But that Game 7 performance against Houston still gives me heartburn. Or maybe it was the spam musubi I had this morning.

  33. PolyMom June 21, 2013 9:37 am

    Love Torres reel.

  34. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 9:48 am

I heard that if you put a Knicks ticket on your dashboard you can park in a Handicap zone.

  35. Ponojr June 21, 2013 10:03 am

When’s the last time UH got more than one Buff n Blue to commit in the same year?

  36. turfwar June 21, 2013 10:15 am

Jimmy you’re making my Friday. Keep em coming.

  37. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 10:20 am

What’s the difference between a can of spam and CG?

    The can.

  38. Jesse(James) June 21, 2013 10:23 am

    Good morning Tsaikos….!!!

Welcome to all the new Warriors!!!

Keep on training men…Keep on training!!!

  39. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 10:32 am

Why do Knicks fans whistle while they are taking a dump? So they know which end to wipe.

  40. wafan June 21, 2013 11:03 am

    Good afternoon!

  41. wafan June 21, 2013 11:05 am

Last day of prep for the kids.

There are 7 of us on campus — all in my lab.

I hope they are going to be ready and in competition form!

  42. wafan June 21, 2013 11:06 am

    45!

  43. jm2375 June 21, 2013 11:10 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

    Happy Aloha Friday!

Nice to see more local boys opting to play for the home team.

  44. jm2375 June 21, 2013 11:22 am

BTW, did everyone on Oahu feel the earthquake last night?

  45. al June 21, 2013 11:25 am

btw…mark atuaia has been hired by his alma mater, byu that is, as an assistant coach. story goes he did express interest in the Hawaii position. however, we needed that other kahuku legend to run our oline.

  46. al June 21, 2013 11:26 am

so which one of you early posters have “naughty” sites still open?

one of you did open the flood gates to the spam attack (again).

  47. al June 21, 2013 11:27 am

jm411…no, I thought it was the boss’ snoring.

  48. al June 21, 2013 11:29 am

locals boys staying home…it was simple really. all along it was simple to have happen.

its like getting a date with the best looking girls for your prom date…all you gotta do is ask!

worst case scenario is a denial, which puts you exactly where you started from.

  49. 3-Prong June 21, 2013 11:36 am

Like the commercial says “We want more, we want more!”. Keep them commits comin!

  50. jimmy the lock June 21, 2013 11:45 am

    I thought the commercial said,

“It’s better to be fast to not be beaten by a werewolf, and then you’ll be turned into one. And you’ll have to stay in, and then you have to get shaved, because you’ll be too hot. And then you’re like raaraaraaraaraa which means I wish I was back to a human.”

  51. wafan June 21, 2013 12:24 pm

Looks like someone did a liquid lunch.

  52. Former UH Athlete June 21, 2013 12:57 pm

Saw a couple Pre-season predictions for UH from the national publications:

    SB Nation: 4-5 wins

    Athlon Sports: 1 win

Side Note… Vegas has Hawaii at 30-1 to win the National Championship this year.

(Note: this is the “field” bet for all teams that don’t have individual odds).

    In reality, 5 Dimes has UH at +990000. So… you’re saying there’s a chance?

  53. Former UH Athlete June 21, 2013 1:20 pm

Just to follow up on my earlier post…. Both SB Nation and Athlon made no mention of the injuries that plagued UH last year. Being national services, they typically don’t have a good beat on what’s been going on at UH or other non-BCS schools not named Boise St.

  54. BigWave96744 June 21, 2013 1:24 pm

    Ponojr,

2007 Punahou recruits Miah Ostrowski & Drew Uperesa. Both grayshirted til, spring 2008

    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!

    HAPPY ALOHA FRIDAY!

  56. Shoko June 21, 2013 1:42 pm

So, Ellison is buying Go! airlines. How about a business partnership with the UH Warriors. A marketing slogan like…

    Go! Rainbow Warriors!

    or

    Go! Bows!

No good? Okay, little latitude, please. Its Friday after all.

    Have a great weekend, folks!

  57. 3-Prong June 21, 2013 1:56 pm

    Jimmy………brah, you funny!

Family friend recently traveled to Big Island on Go!

There was such a backlog, they were stuck at the Hilo airport for six hours waiting for the return flight.

  64. wafan June 21, 2013 2:36 pm

Like magic the spam was rounded up and zapped.

  65. wafan June 21, 2013 2:38 pm

Maybe Go! will paint one of its planes with the Warrior H.

If not Alaska then Go!? Does not look like Hawaiian will ever do it.

  66. Hilo-Warrior June 21, 2013 2:41 pm

DAMIEN!!!!!!!!!! Awesome kid to coach when I was at Keaau. He is a play maker when he is comfortable. And he is looking more and more comfortable as I see pictures and videos of him. Represent those cougars Damien!

  68. papajoe2 June 21, 2013 3:12 pm

    Joke Friday?

I see a friend of mine and ask him how’s his love life? He answers “I had sex with 3 ladies at the same time. I call it a 4 some.”

The next week, same guy, same question. His answer “I had sex with 2 ladies at the same time and I call it a 3 some.”

The following week, same guy, same question. His answer, “I had sex with a lady and I call it a 2 some.”

Last week I see the guy again and ask him how’s his love life? His answer, “I didn’t have any ladies so I had sex by myself.” I call him hand some.

So………… Huzzit, anybody call you handsome?

  76. Dino June 21, 2013 8:26 pm

Pat Riley, ex coach of the lakers dynasty which included, of course, magic, kareem worthy, scott, rambis, has a lot to do with miami heat success. how’s james playing point guard for a bit there in the 2nd half? magic johnson inspired, 6′-9″ point guard-like.

  77. 3-Prong June 21, 2013 8:45 pm

Saw an interview today wMagic and Labron sitting side by side. Magic looked skinny next to Labron.

    I’m like, ‘huh”?

Elisara said to snap a picture. So, I do, and when Packer leaves, I ask: Who’s that?
