  12. jkjones March 5, 2012 8:05 am

    Then there were FIVE.

Auburn and Florida State toppled hard from the list of undefeated college softball teams.

Both FSU and Auburn suffered 3-losses over the weekend in tournament play.

The Lady seminoles dropped two to the wahine.

    No1 ALAB (17-0), No 2 Calif (14-0), No 12 La-Laf (18-0), No 17 Louisville (16-0) and No 22 Hawai’i, remain undefeated in D1 softball (USA Ranking as of 2/27).

  13. mikey March 5, 2012 8:23 am

Fast start at 17-0 best start on a season in school history. Should be ranked in Top 10

    Go Wahine!

Mikey, you going to the games? On the tables or the machines, just think positive and no get the attitude that you gotta win. When you feel negative, get off the tables and go see a show or do something else. Have a good time.

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Best wishes to all the players at Pro Day!

    Stay safe and dry today!

  18. Ipu Man March 5, 2012 8:35 am

Tick…Tick…Tock! UH is still holding a scholarship for Fehoko…but only until Today. If he doesn’t commit they will pull the offer and will go on to someone else.

    🙄

  19. Paniolo March 5, 2012 8:37 am

Today is the day – Will Fehoko Fanaika commit to our Warrior football team, or will be play for an SEC team?

  20. mikey March 5, 2012 8:40 am

Mahalo for the great tip papajoe

Got any great tip for Gib’s team?

  21. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 9:09 am

Mikey, for Gib? Prayer and focus.

Funny though, I told my brother after the first few weeks of the season that the wahine basketball was terrible and the men were good and should get better. Now the roles seem to be reversed. I’m suprised that the men are acutally terrible. What we all have to consider is that they are terrible in a terrible conference. I really hope they pull it off though. Wouldn’t that be nice? EVERYBODY on the team has to play defense ALL THE TIME. At times I noticed some of the players not even concerned with “D”, including their so called “star” players. How many times have we seen the other team shoot totally uncontested? Its because some of the players just don’t take “D” seriously. Coach Tony said it best “The bench can cure cancer”. Its a quote that every coach should abide by. No matter if its your star player. If you bench your star players because of lack of hustle or intensity, they will sulk and grumble, even in the media, but in the long run, they will come through. If not, then they don’t belong here.

  22. MattyBoy March 5, 2012 9:18 am

Hope we land the big boy from San Mateo. But my feeling still is that he’ll end up Somewhere in the SEC.

  23. cheepono March 5, 2012 9:27 am

Future recruits should learn from Fehoko. Wait until AFTER signing day to create a buzz and before you know it, that buzz will quickly morph into a firestorm.

    BIK

  31. greenthumb March 5, 2012 10:23 am

Request … anyone know if the UH-Idaho WAC game on Thursday will be on TV or radio? Cannot find anything on hawaiiathletics(d0t)com. Thanks.

Thursday game will be on radio. Tv idk..

  34. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 10:31 am

BIK, Sometimes if they wait too long, the scholarship will be given to somebody else. I think Coach Chow is willing to wait out Fehoko because he may be a very good get with the late start. I’m sure he has a back up plan should Fehoko go elsewhere.

  35. jkjones March 5, 2012 10:35 am

IDK how any can call a wahine basketball record 11-18 (6-8), a role reversal with a straight face.

There are several differences between the two programs:

One never got off in a positive direction and defaulted at the start and the other imploded at the end of the regular season after showing promise at the start.

And, that sums it up–under current alignments–only ONE shows promise for the future.

  36. whitey March 5, 2012 10:36 am

seems harmless on facebook, but don’t think lsu appreciate this cause there is a possiblity of ncaa rules infraction. I don’t think Jaanna Lee is an approved recruiter for LSU.

  37. mo808 March 5, 2012 10:41 am

Play up BB men! Fresh start here to do so! Go Warriors!

  38. jkjones March 5, 2012 10:42 am

Congrads to Stephanie Ricketts for being named Verizon Western WAC pitcher of the week.

This is the second honor this season for the senior and ninth overall in her career.

Stephanie showed her grit twice against the lady seminoles over the weekend.

Ricketts went 3-0 in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational with a 1.40 ERA and 27 strikeouts.

    Awesome.

  39. kapakahi March 5, 2012 10:43 am

JMHO that it’s a good thing that a former UH coach….the one with the NFL connection & ties….volunteered to attend today’s Pro Day….to support last season’s senior Warriors!

Makes for a smoother transition for future Pro Days!

  40. whitey March 5, 2012 10:53 am

Best wishes to all the players at Pro Day.

  41. d1shima March 5, 2012 11:11 am

Let us prepare ourselves for the inevitable onslaught of “ScoutSpeak”

One 240-pound athlete who can move like a hungry leopard is pretty much like all the others, a fact that cannot be allowed to stand between the motivated draftnik and that coveted senior draft analyst title. Luckily, there is Scoutspeak, a language designed to baffle laymen with submolecular analysis of every high-cut, sudden prospect who can high-point, bucket step and take proper angles but gets upright, runs with poor lean, and fails to syncopate his duodenum while percolating the jabberwocky.

  42. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 11:25 am

jkjones, didn’t the Wahine bb lose many games in a row in the begining of the season? I am not saying they are very good, but they a least starting to win some games although against a very weak WAC, so it doesn’t say that they are good at all. We are probably saying the same thing. Both programs are a disappointment, but yes, the men has more talent so to me, its more disapointing. The WAC conference nationally is very weak and yet we are not just on a losing streak but how they are playing makes it hard to watch. I wasn’t expecting much from the women so they didn’t disapoint me as much as the men. Does the Wahine need to go in a different direction? In my opinion, absolutely. Does the men need to go in a different direction? Absolutely NOT. Not yet anyway. Gib is a great recruiter and is learning to be a head coach. I think he will be a very good head coach for the Warriors in the years ahead. Good luck to both of the teams. Still will be rooting for both.

  43. cheepono March 5, 2012 11:25 am

  49. jm2375 March 5, 2012 11:53 am

Congrats to Scott Squier, WAC pitcher of the week!

  50. Buffoman March 5, 2012 11:55 am

Papajoe2 I agree that it was extremely tough to watch. I can see from the anguish on Coach Gib’s face that he too is just unhappy with the performance. I do not believe that the other teams were that much better than our. Somehow, thing went haywire in the collective mindset of the members of the team and they are having a difficult time getting away from that funk.

Two very, very successful college (one actually went on to coach in the pros) once told me separately it really comes down to team chemistry. Talent is wonderful but the chemistry has to be such that everyone playing is totally committed to a single outcome. Saying it and being it are worlds apart.

I have great confidence in Coach Gib. It may not be this year, but he will find that team mix that will help get the results we all so much want.

re: wahine bball. Bolla only had 2 winning seasons. V. Goo was 8-20 his last season. They played a tough preseason schedule (which doomed them at the start): Hilo, Portland, SDSU, Depaul, Cal, Virginia, Texas and then on the road to Army & Columbia. It was a tougher schedule than the Men’s…

  63. MattyBoy March 5, 2012 1:06 pm

I think it was one those “I get to play or played for a top SEC team” type of thinking. Oh well…..better luck next time!

  64. Kevin March 5, 2012 1:07 pm

Been saying it for four years… Stephanie Ricketts is a special player and with only a few more months to appreciate her talents and seemingly irreplaceable field presence in the circle, people should flock to see quality pitching from a program most expect nothing but home runs from.

I’ll always remember 2009, when the “project” pitcher and 1st baseman in waiting was thrown into the mix after a slew of injuries to other pitchers and was born under fire and became the workhorse she is today.

  65. Buffoman March 5, 2012 1:49 pm

I am assuming that it is a certainty that that large Poly gentleman from SoCal is not headed our way. Too bad really, as I believe as a difference maker, if he was a good as described, he would have been a game changer here. Over there, he may just be another large young man in a uniform as those schools he is looking at have many of the 3+ star players in the same position either in place or coming in. Nothing against our young men as I believe we’ll be just fine without his presence. It’s just that it would have probably been better if he chose to become a Warrior.

  66. MattyBoy March 5, 2012 1:52 pm

And good luck to him a well!!

  67. Couch potato March 5, 2012 1:53 pm

  68. kapakahi March 5, 2012 2:05 pm

#60, Actually Corey started out at RB his first Spring Ball under JJ….having played both ways at Castle HS….but ended up switching to LB thereafter.

Same thing happened with Iosefa in reverse. Joey started out at LB in Fall Camp his true frosh year under Mack….but switched to RB after only 1 week at LB.

  69. kapakahi March 5, 2012 2:10 pm

  75. empty March 5, 2012 3:17 pm

I feel sorry for any wahine basketball coach that comes here because it is expected that they would turn the program around right away or they are a failure as a coach. However, it’s okay for the mens basketball coach to have an off season as they have talent and can come back next year. The reasonings seem to be the opposite of what I would expect because Dana should get more leeway as she has less talent to work with. Go Wahine.

  76. Buffoman March 5, 2012 3:17 pm

#69 Kapakahi. Seems like I am more like your name. I though he was D-line guy, then I said SoCal. Lilo bit kapakahi, ova hea.

You know this whole thing is like asking the girl on a date. You get enough courage and you ask. You get a date. She has a friend who you think is prettier, so you ask her and guess what, she has a friend who you thought was even prettier and you ask her.

The last two only liked you because you were someone who they thought people thought was a “cool guy”. Soon after, you were just another of their “conquest”.

What about the first girl? That was the one who really liked you for who you were. But too bad, someone else saw her too and asked her once you left and they now seem happy.

You? Well, got to make the most out of missing out on the one who may have been the best for you.

  77. Couch potato March 5, 2012 3:23 pm

no matter who the coach, male or female, it’s who can you recruit. if you have less talent to work with then that means you recruited less talent.

  78. mo808 March 5, 2012 3:34 pm

Mickey@72 That means another day of not walking myself and the dogs! It’s times like these I wish I had a treadmill 🙁

  79. Kevin March 5, 2012 3:36 pm

To be fair, this is Gib Arnold’s 2nd year after this first was pretty good.

This is Coach Dana’s third and many have pointed out several Xs and Os issues that keep materializing.

Three years is a fair assessment.

However, I do remember that after Coach DTD’s FIRST year some felt it was appropriate to hold her to the same standards as Coach Nash, who at the time was approaching his 3rd losing season, now that was a STUPID statement to make.

  80. HawaiiMongoose March 5, 2012 3:37 pm

I’ve been one of those calling for DTD’s contract not to be renewed (ever since that debacle against Idaho, giving up an 18-point second half lead and losing at home to the last place team in the conference). However, to be fair, the most talented player she recruited hasn’t seen the court this year. Ashley Karaitiana arrived with a lot of accolades, and those who’ve watched her in practice say she’s very good, but she’s been forced to sit due to undisclosed qualifying issues unrelated to academics. The team should benefit a lot from her presence next season.

  82. Ben A Lurker March 5, 2012 3:55 pm

anyone got the link for all player stats?

  83. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 3:56 pm

The Wahine basketball team has been in dire straits for a few seasons now, even before DTD took over. Who would want to come here to play? Why would anyone want to come here to play? There are great reasons to play in paradise but so far it doesn’t seem like DTD is a great recruiter. Maybe since we are going to the Big West conference, we have a chance to land some California girls to make the team competitive. I wished she could have gotten the 2 Kona girls and was disappointed that they are going away, especially since that location has nothing there. Good luck to the Wahine in the WAC tournament. Stranger things have happened.

    Papajoe2,

I dunno what the recruiting situtation was like or who the two players you are referring two are by name or anything, but sometimes, more often than we would assume, we’ve seen UH admission requirements get in the way of a coach’s ability to bring in players (locally and abroad).

    Perhaps this was an issue?

  88. Ipu Man March 5, 2012 4:28 pm

This is probably the biggest issue:

  89. whitey March 5, 2012 4:39 pm

really don’t know much about rainbow wbb, but i did contribute to them. duffer is one of the chief cheer leaders for them and wanted us to go to the WAC tourney, but both he and I got other committments. he is now the head coach for KS-Maui golf team (boys). all i know is what i read and what i read is not too good.

  90. whitey March 5, 2012 4:41 pm

from what i read, wahine bb is not very good at recruiting and if anything, this is just asking for doom.

  91. Kevin March 5, 2012 4:47 pm

    Speaking of weather,

BIG shout out to Kyle Tengan and his crew at lower campus for maintaining the field yesterday. Other than a one hour delay it was good considering the conditions.

The biggest DELAY really came from Radford and UCSB who’s 7 inning game felt like a 12 inning marathon… UGH.

  92. cheepono March 5, 2012 4:47 pm

according to espn, simione vehikite is no longer a part of the usc football team. another local boy drawn to the glitz and glamor of the pac-12 that doesn’t finish his football career.

  97. wafan March 5, 2012 4:59 pm

And, a wonderful Monday evening to all!

  98. al March 5, 2012 4:59 pm

speaking of which…the clock is winding down and yet a decision has not been tendered.

while many “friends” and “family” have been shouting out lsu in to the ears of the heralded san mateo kid by way of sacramento. it seems to me that there could be a little birdie who whispers in his ears telling him to go with his heart.

i am thinking, which is always a dangerous thing, that his heart is telling him to be a part of, a big part of polynesia’s team. where everything except the HYPE is here. everything that he is looking for in a college is here.

  102. wafan March 5, 2012 5:01 pm

No matter where he goes I hope he does well.

But, if he chooses to be a Warrior then I hope he does super outstanding!

  103. cheepono March 5, 2012 5:02 pm

vehikite is still enrolled in school, but as a redshirt junior he still had 2 full years left to play football. oh well. another lesson learned.

  104. wafan March 5, 2012 5:02 pm

    Bravo to Squier!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  105. wafan March 5, 2012 5:03 pm

    2nd century.

  106. wafan March 5, 2012 5:04 pm

Tsigh . . . more meeting on the horizon.

  107. wafan March 5, 2012 5:05 pm

Everyone inflate their raft or at least locate and have a firm grip on their dinghy?

  108. mcb March 5, 2012 5:07 pm

    #99 thanks for the update.

  109. Ralph March 5, 2012 5:08 pm

DTD recruiting woes is her own doing… She came out of the CC Parks Division to become HC without any college experience, she magnified her problem by hiring familiar faces who did not have current college recruiting experience and this triumvirate collectively had limited college coaching experience.

Several of the current players are fall back players to the Islands, not her recruiting-Bello, Gaddis, Tagalicod and Kuehu.

Two JC recruits left during pre season-Evans and Ray.

Three years ago she gave a scholie to a player with 2 years of eligibility remaining that she spotted playing in the local park league-Ayabe

For coach DTD to succeed on the D1 level, she has to recruit better athletes who can play basketball to level the playing field. Her team lost by nearly 20 points to the better WAC teams and committed nearly 20 turn overs per game this season.

Karaitiana may turn into a gem next season, but one person won’t change anything, otherwise Jackson alone would have helped us win 20+ games, she is the real deal, what we need is a team of 8 or 9 players who can rotate into the game and play at a high level of D1 BB.

  110. Ralph March 5, 2012 5:13 pm

now if Duffer and Whitey had showed up at the SSC to cheer on the Wahine BB team this season their karma alone might have willed the Wahine to win a few more games.

  111. whitey March 5, 2012 5:26 pm

Ralph, neva lost for words. But, I can see what you saying and was thinking the same. I not sure, but I think duffer might have gone to see a game or two. Actually where I went to further my education (at my parent’s expense), hs girls basketball was bigger than football and every hs girls bb game at the state championship was televised. Plenty guys neva go classes when their hometown team was playing. The more state championship games we provide will actually help the sport and cheapen it like sum think. So what if a team gets blown away, but look at their school and families, they one happy bunch that their school was able to play in the championship.

  112. whitey March 5, 2012 5:27 pm

    supposed to be “not cheapen”

  113. kapakahi March 5, 2012 5:54 pm

    #2, #10 & #39,

I just don’t understand why UH didn’t send a current coach (who also coached last season) to attend today’s Pro Day….especially when he coached 5 Dlinemen (Meatoga, Tuipulotu, Masch, Satele, Hafoka) who participated today. Can someone explain the rationale or thinking to justify making that decision?

And yet a former UH coach voluntarily flew up to attend today’s Pro Day…..on his own dime….since UH wouldn’t send him. At least he didn’t abandon last season’s senior Warriors. Even though he’s no longer a UH coach, he’s still obvious a Warrior!

I’m glad that ST attended today’s Pro Day…..so he can also confirm who attended today’s Pro Day….and who didn’t.

JMHO but definitely doesn’t seem to make for a smooth transition for future Pro Days.

  114. kapakahi March 5, 2012 5:57 pm

#81, I’m glad that at least someone from the UH SID Media Office staff attended today’s Pro Day.

  115. kapakahi March 5, 2012 6:10 pm

Interesting that former Castle HS star and Arizona Wildcat Solomon Koehler participated in today’s UH Pro Day too.

So too did former UH running back Chizzy Dimude.

  116. mo808 March 5, 2012 6:14 pm

Wow! Kapakahi, I can only guess which former warrior/coach who did that. Hats off to him, a true Warrior! Mahalo!

  117. Bulla March 5, 2012 6:15 pm

    #116

hope everyone did well. can anyone participate in the Pro Day or only players from the 808 that grew up here if they didn’t play for UH?

  118. SAWARRIOR March 5, 2012 6:19 pm

Paredes continues to surprise… for a wr, pollard’s 40 time is disappointing.

  119. kapakahi March 5, 2012 6:21 pm

    #118. Howzit Bulla,

Also thought was originally limited to UH players….but obviously not the case.

Then again this year’s Pro Day wasn’t really organized by UH….but by agents representing last season’s senior Warriors.

  120. al March 5, 2012 6:25 pm

maybe someone sees another troy polamalu in corey paredes?

  121. kapakahi March 5, 2012 6:26 pm

    #117.

Yup….the one with all the NFL connections and ties….also collecting an NFL pension.

Just made all the world of sense to him….as it should have made to others now currently on the Manoa campus….that he attend today.

His presence today was genuinely appreciated by last season’s senior Warriors who participated in today’s Pro Day!

  122. mo808 March 5, 2012 6:34 pm

Thanks Kapakahi! Have always had high regard for him and this really speaks to his love and commitment to Warriors Football!

  123. kapakahi March 5, 2012 6:35 pm

Today was the perfect day to schedule UH’s Pro Day since UCLA’s is tomorrow….then SC’s is Wednesday. PLUS the Home Depot Center is less than 10 miles away from each school campus.

  124. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 6:36 pm

Aren’t the former football coaches still on the payroll until the end of this month? Not doing anything? Might as well go to the pro day and also build their contacts for the future.

  125. mo808 March 5, 2012 6:38 pm

Travel is on their on dime right?

  126. kapakahi March 5, 2012 6:48 pm

    #125 & #126.

I don’t think UH can or should expect a former coach to travel on his own dime….and covering all expenses….IF they sent him.

In the end, he went on his own….since UH did NOT send him….and therefore didn’t pay his expenses.

Plus…he already has all the NFL contacts he needs.

He didn’t do it for himself. He did it on his own to support last season’s senior Warriors….since others weren’t willing to…..since he’ll always be a true Warrior!….even now without a title or position. A title or position alone doesn’t make one a true Warrior!

  127. mo808 March 5, 2012 6:53 pm

@ 127 Kapakahi, exactly my point he was not sent–even if drawing a paycheck–he went unsent (and not requested by UH therefore) on his own dime — for the love and committment to the players and program. that’s awesome!

  128. BigHiloFan2 March 5, 2012 6:55 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos.

and a very big hurrah for all the Warriors who tried out at today’s Pro Day.

and a big THANK YOU to the coach with the NFL ties for coming out today and backing up da Warriors.

hats off to you. and all that you do for your crew.

    Go Warriors!!!!!!!!!!!!

  129. BigHiloFan2 March 5, 2012 6:56 pm

I’m hoping and praying for da big brudda to show up in Hawaii.

imma hoping he comes, and if he no comes, I still wish brudda Fehoko da best.

    Go Warriors!

  130. BigHiloFan2 March 5, 2012 6:58 pm

    Coach Chow

    I’m tellin you true,

Akoakoa Kennedy is a very good get. He played about 75% of all the plays last season, offense and defense. won two state heavyweight wrestling crowns. he’s supposed to be going to Arizona Western.

steal em. poach em. do what you gotta do.

i love him…. because…. he is totally uGlY!.

  131. kapakahi March 5, 2012 7:03 pm

#128, Although UH wasn’t too keen about it, bottom line is that UH couldn’t tell him that he could not go to today’s Pro Day…..since they didn’t send him….and weren’t footing the bill….and therefore couldn’t tell him how not to spend his own coin.

All of this was with the understanding that UH had decided against sending any current coach.

That’s more so why he decided to go….on his own dime….for the love of the players.

The current coaches can speak for themselves about the current program.

  132. Stephen Tsai March 5, 2012 7:06 pm

Nobody from UH’s media relations department was at pro day.

Not sure who took the photos. I know Miano and some parents had cameras.

  133. Dr Dre Headphones March 5, 2012 7:06 pm

An impressive share, I simply with all this onto a colleague who had previously been doing little analysis during this. Anf the husband in fact bought me breakfast due to the fact I discovered it for him.. smile. So ok, i’ll reword that: Thnx to the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending any time go over this, I believe strongly about this and enjoy reading more about this topic. Whenever possible, as you grow expertise, would you mind updating your blog site with a lot more details? It’s highly helpful for me. Massive thumb up due to this article!

  134. kapakahi March 5, 2012 7:09 pm

    #133. ST,

Was there anyone still currently with UH in attendance today? Please confirm.

  135. Pomai March 5, 2012 7:09 pm

#133 ST – Sorry to say they can barely cover UH events let alone UH’s Pro Day

  136. mo808 March 5, 2012 7:12 pm

    Mahalo Coach Miano!

  137. kapakahi March 5, 2012 7:26 pm

Just to be clear, my intent in posting this info isn’t too bash the UH Athletic Dept and/or current UH football coaching staff…..but more so to express my disappointment….as a lifelong diehard UH football fan….on the decisions that they made….that obviously were subjective and weren’t completely thought through objectively.

JMHO that this is a clear example….where better decisions should have been made….which demonstate that decision-making logic & skills still need improvement.

JMHO that it’s never a good thing to alienate former players…..by not supporting them….’cuz you never know who might make it to the league….and could be a future donor….or even a Na Koa board member (like Leo Goeas and other former players).

It’s just a good thing for last year’s senior Warriors that Miano made all the right decisions and moves here….for the players….and the program!

  138. al March 5, 2012 7:41 pm

san mateo kid is not gonna be a warrior.

  139. el burro sabio March 5, 2012 7:47 pm

I see where Kapakahi is coming from. At the same time, sending a current coach to Pro Day won’t help prepare for next season, and spring practice starts in 2 weeks. Damned either way.

  140. Derek March 5, 2012 7:47 pm

thank you , coach Miano for all you have done for the football program and the players.

  141. kapakahi March 5, 2012 7:53 pm

BTW, there was alot of discussion….and disagreement….about the 40 yard times being recorded by the NFL scouts. Alot of slow times recorded….and alot of unhappy personal trainers.

Alot of bystanders and personal trainers were baffled by the NFL scouts deciding to simultaneously running individual position workout sessions….both offensive & defensive….all at the same time….instead of running individual offensive position workouts before or after running the individual defensive position workouts.

The way the NFL scouts ran the individual position workout stations, not all scouts from each team got to observe all participants in their individual position workouts.

  142. mo808 March 5, 2012 7:54 pm

@ 139 Al, woohoo! Great news for Warrior FB!

  143. mo808 March 5, 2012 7:55 pm

Opps read that without “not” and got way excited 🙁

  144. kapakahi March 5, 2012 8:02 pm

BTW, forgot to mention that there was reunion of sorts at today’s Pro Day….with one of the Kafentzis brothers (not sure if Kyle or Kurt) and Alvis Satele (Liko’s dad)….along with Miano.

  145. Stephen Tsai March 5, 2012 8:06 pm

    Kapakahi:

It was Kent. His son is going to play for Washington State.

  146. Stephen Tsai March 5, 2012 8:08 pm

    Kapakahi:

The director of football ops was there for UH.

He’s a good guy, but he was in a tough position because he wasn’t here last year.

  147. Stephen Tsai March 5, 2012 8:10 pm

The thing about pro day is it’s a sampler. If a guy has a breakout day, like Paredes, then the scouts will go back and review his videos.

I think Shane Austin helped himself having Jeff Garcia there. The scouts were chatting it up with Garcia, then then got to chat up Austin and Pollard.

  148. Bulla March 5, 2012 8:10 pm

    kapakahi,

mahalo for all the 411, always good stuff. still wishing only the best for any 808 athlete still chasing their dream…..you never go if you never know…right?

mahalo for the coach from last season who did go… class act, even after the curtain has dropped. it’s not what you do when the lights are on, it’s what you do when the lights are off that will tell you who you really are……..GO WARRIORS!!!!

  149. kapakahi March 5, 2012 8:21 pm

Recorded 40 yard times were apparently slow because of running into a slight head wind….and because of slow slippery surface….but mostly because of suspect times recorded by NFL scouts.

  150. kapakahi March 5, 2012 8:28 pm

    ST,

BTW, did you make to any of the Gardena eateries….nearby the Home Depot Center….that I mentioned earlier?

  151. Curt March 5, 2012 8:29 pm

Was Moniz there at Pro Day?

  152. WarriorMojo March 5, 2012 8:38 pm

So, ST, how did Mr. Koehler do?

Also, let’s give a shout out to Chad Owens, #2, one of the best EVER, who is doing a lot these days to help others follow his path.

  153. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 8:46 pm

Mahalo kapakahi and ST for updates on our former Warriors. Always good to know what’s going on with the former players.

  154. kapakahi March 5, 2012 8:51 pm

    Moniz worked out today.

  155. kapakahi March 5, 2012 8:57 pm

Unfortunately Big Sol apparently didn’t show up in the best of shape today….so didn’t have his best showing in the individual OL position workout.

But then again, the guy from the Minnesota Vikings had the OL prospects running some funky agility drills….like nothing the guys were used to performing.

The OL position workouts were abbreviated….compared to the DL position workouts which probably ran twice as long….all going on at the same time at different stations.

  156. LizKauai March 5, 2012 9:08 pm

Go past, present and future WARRIORS!

  157. MattyBoy March 5, 2012 9:09 pm

    So Al,

Any good places to eat?? ; )

  158. WarriorMojo March 5, 2012 9:13 pm

Kapakahi, wow, that’s very disappointing news. I’d heard that Sol was dieting and training very hard. Had supposedly lost about thirty pounds.

  159. kapakahi March 5, 2012 9:22 pm

Now that the NorCal kid has decided to head to the deep South….let’s hope that the 2 Pac-12 bouncebacks come home to play.

  160. Stephen Tsai March 5, 2012 9:23 pm

I was disappointed in Koehler because you could see all of that potential. If he were just a little more fit he would have had the scouts really impressed.

  161. kapakahi March 5, 2012 9:24 pm

Andrew Faaumu showed up today in great shape….and had good Pro Day test results….compliments of working with Chad Ikei.

  162. al March 5, 2012 9:26 pm

one bounceback for sure. the second awaits his release. anyway, those of the two we looking at.

  163. Stephen Tsai March 5, 2012 9:26 pm

    Kapakahi:

Not sure if you agree with me on this, but I thought it would have been better if they didn’t run events at the same time. That would have given players a chance to root for their teammates, particularly in the bench press.

  164. kapakahi March 5, 2012 9:31 pm

    ST,

Definitely agree with you 100%….along with all the bystanders, family, supporters and especially the personal trainers in attendance. See my earlier comments on #142.

  165. kev-1 March 5, 2012 9:31 pm

I understand the disappointment losing out on the San Mateo kid, but come on guys, I’m surprised UH was in the picture as long as it was. Not like he was a local boy. This would have been a HUGE get to steal him from an SEC powerhouse. That is a tough sell to a local boy, let alone a kid that we all wished was a local boy.

Anyhow . . . Al, what’s the scoops on the bouncebacks? Hush, hush? or common knowledge?

  166. kapakahi March 5, 2012 9:37 pm

    #168,

Both potential boucebacks are Olinemen….ILH products….Saint Louis School graduates.

  167. whitey March 5, 2012 9:37 pm

ok, that clears the mike andrade situation

  168. whitey March 5, 2012 9:38 pm

should have put ? at end.

  169. kev-1 March 5, 2012 9:40 pm

thank you kapakahi for the info

  170. kev-1 March 5, 2012 9:40 pm

Olin Kreutz and Dominic Raiola coming back home to play for UH. YES!!!!

  171. kev-1 March 5, 2012 9:41 pm

oooh, wait . . . both centers. Guess we gotta go with Olin on that one then. Maybe Dom can slide over to guard.

  172. Hawkpeter March 5, 2012 9:43 pm

Thanks for the updates and candid opinion as always Kapakahi.

This is not the first time that reports of a Pro Day that did not seem to provide the best for the players has been described. Other programs dont seem to have the same problems with a committee of scouts ruining the day with selfish demands.

  173. kapakahi March 5, 2012 9:50 pm

One of the potential Pac-12 OL bouncebacks already played under Norm Chow. His younger brother….also an Olineman….but played at different ILH school….signed his LOI with UH as part of the Class of 2012 recruiting class.

The other potential Pac-12 OL bounceback used to play for WOL….with current Warrior OG Ben Dew….and played under OL Coach Gordon Miyashiro (father of former UH WVB Tehani and former U-Dub WVB Tamari) and HC (and former Pac-5 RB & UH Olineman) Joe Onosai.

  174. al March 5, 2012 9:55 pm

okay…one bouncebacker is a brother of a uh signee. its been reported several times. younger brother prepped at the kapalama heights school.

the second bounceback guy is not from st. louis. he awaits a release. he is not an olineman. due to the sensitivity of this issue. no further details for now.

there is another st. louis alum who will not return to colorado and has yet to name a college he’d like to attend. in fact, asiata has mentioned publicly that he may not continue to play football.

  175. Warrior Dave March 5, 2012 9:58 pm

Who turned out the lights in Ewa Beach? Dang weather!

  176. kapakahi March 5, 2012 9:59 pm

    #175. al,

Can you at least tell us what position this 2nd bounceback plays?

Local or mainland high school product?

  177. d1shima March 5, 2012 10:02 pm

Maybe sumboddy decided he no like spend his Senior year in South Bend after all! 😯 😆 😉

  178. kapakahi March 5, 2012 10:03 pm

    al,

If you can’t tell us what position he plays, how about telling us whether he plays offense OR defense.

  179. kev-1 March 5, 2012 10:07 pm

Thanks al . . . yeah I remember reading about the first one you speak of, so think I got that one figured out.

Intrigued to say the least. I miss me some football. Now that UH basketball is pau (sorry fellas who seem to think they can pull out a miracle run in the tourney), don’t know what to watch.

Actually, basebows and softbows looking pretty good. Gotta get out there and watch the ladies. And just in case Kevin is reading (since I have picked up that you like UH softball a little and will probably be at the games), I’ll be the guy carrying the sign “the real Kevin.”

Just kidding. Truly though, it is nice to have some teams succeed when others may struggle. Helps appreciate the program.

Thankful for all our coaches and athletes that call themselves UH War-rain-bow-rior-hine.

  180. kev-1 March 5, 2012 10:09 pm

d1 . . . that insane thought passed through my mind too. Then I realized I am sleep deprived and a little shaken by all of the thunder and lightning.

  181. d1shima March 5, 2012 10:10 pm

    😈

  182. kev-1 March 5, 2012 10:13 pm

    i kid, i kid

  183. al March 5, 2012 10:36 pm

kapakahi…i was sworn to secrecy, for real kind. he plays defense and was an all stater. he’s a local boy.

  184. Ralph March 5, 2012 10:48 pm

I thought the Warriors chances of winning the WAC BB tournament was slim at best, now that Zane Johnson didn’t travel with the team and he is expected to miss the tournament, my new forecast is desperate.

  185. Ralph March 5, 2012 10:49 pm

I hope my surge protector is reliable, otherwise I will be shopping for a new computer.

  186. Kevin March 5, 2012 10:51 pm

    Kev-1,

Unfortunately for the coaches that work their okoles off without much to work with, they will be relegated to work with table scraps because hey… a 17-0 team is doing ok, so why push them up the CIP funds priority ladder right?

  187. Kevin March 5, 2012 10:51 pm

In the meantime, congrats to the Les Murakami Stadium for a new facade coming soon with fresh paint!!!!

  188. Kevin March 5, 2012 10:55 pm

At least with a new facade to go along with the new everything else, maybe the softball players will have an alternative site to use the restroom in between games WHEN THEIR ONLY FACILITY IS ALSO SHARED WITH THE FANS.

Imagine a Top 25 football team standing in line to use the restroom in the concourse.

See… future parents, you might wanna try your hardest to have boys if you envision them playing sports at a high level. At least this way you won’t have to see them being disregarded like 2nd class citizens.

  189. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 11:01 pm

Ralph, I haven’t heard anything about Zane Johnson. What’s going on?

al, What school is Fehoko attending>

  190. papajoe2 March 5, 2012 11:06 pm

No Zane? I hope his replacement plays defense.

No Feheko? If his heart wasn’t in it then no need.

All is not lost on the world. I just got word that the Mayan calender doesn’t contain the leap year. The world should have ended 7 months ago. I wonder if anything significant happened 7 months ago.

According to Dayton Morinaga, Zane has an infection and can’t travel.

warrior insider posted an article on Zane Johnson…it is a continuation of the condition he was in since senior night. For confidentiality reason, no official statement on his status given by UH other than he won’t be playing in any games this week.

Really unfortunate for Zane. He’s a good kid and a leader and did so much for the program. Hope he recovers quickly from his illness and has many successes in the future, both on and off the court.

  204. BigHiloFan2 March 5, 2012 11:41 pm

    papajoe2 on #194,

Heard about a month ago that the Black Widow blew away her male competitors (including a 400+ pound gentleman) by devouring a 10-pound turkey in 10 minutes! If I’m not mistaken, she (Ms. Thomas) weighs about 105 pounds. And BTW, the great competitive-eater Kobayashi ate 337 chicken wings in 10 minutes; these 2 individuals just blow my mind.

  214. krump1_AKA_protector March 6, 2012 1:33 am

Very sad to hear that the big boy won’t be joining UH. Can’t cry over spilled milk though and look forward to hearing more about the bounce-backs!

  215. wafan March 6, 2012 3:51 am

    Good frozen morning!

23-degrees and dropping like a rock.

  216. wafan March 6, 2012 3:52 am

We move the clocks forward Sunday morning. So those trying to call family there will be a three hour difference from HI to the West Coast.

  217. wafan March 6, 2012 3:53 am

    Guys did well yesterday!

    Go, Warriors!!!

  218. krump1_AKA_protector March 6, 2012 4:15 am

    Morning wafan,

Was it the past Sunday that you moved the clocks forward? Or is it next Sunday that it happens?

  219. mo808 March 6, 2012 4:17 am

Good morning, Wafan! Good morning all!

Hope the day dries out for us here today!

Nice pictures. I like the clean new look sported by MO! Hope the best happens for each as a result of their efforts at Pro Day!
