After a longer-than-necessary wait, two players who made what was the Special Events Arena the place to be in the 1990s — Anthony Carter and Yuval Katz — were finally admitted to UH’s Circle of Honor.
Both were the stars at a time when UH did not need to issue attendance counts.
Well deserved.
Now, can the committee admit a football player, such as Niko Noga, Al Noga, Michael Carter, Garrett Gabriel, Ashley Lelie, Rich Miano, Chad Owens or Timmy Chang?

Former UH slotback Kealoha Pilares said he will participate in all of the non-running drills at the NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis. Instead, he will do the sprints and speed-agility drills at the UH’s Pro Day March 31 in Carson, Calif.
Pilares suffered a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament while returning a punt in the Hawaii Bowl. The injury did not require surgery, but Pilares said he was medically cleared to run about two weeks ago. He has trained in Arizona in preparation for the NFL combine.

Give credit to volleyball coach Charlie Wade for coming up with a creative strategy. In recent matches, backup setter Sam Biscaro would be the pinch-server in place of a middle blocker late in each set. In the third set yesterday, Biscaro “started” at middle blocker, enabling him to make the first serve. When he rotated to the front row, he was replaced by middle blocker Jarrod Lofy. Later, he was able to serve again for Lofy before exiting. The strategy allowed Biscaro to serve twice at the middle blocker spot instead of once. Based on that, is there a way for a pinch-hitter to have two at-bats in softball?

Kealoha would make more money as a model than as a football player. My personal opinion. He can model for me anytime.
Kealoha is probably be one of the strongest recievers there. Its to bad he can’t run, that injury really cost him a lot- national exposure, and now he can’t run in the combine. Really hope he and and green and salas kill it at the combine.
Seems like A. C. and karl built up a strong relationship over the years. Not hard to imagine, A. c. is a quality guy that’s hard to come by in the NBA.

By batting 5-7 in today’s DH with Riverside, Melissa raised her BA 100 points and is now hitting .314. If Gonzo has refound her stroke, you all know what comes next.
Sharla did the Mexican hat trick in the first game by whiffing 3X….she then came back in the second game with a shot to LCF, driving in two runs….that’s a cat-bounce off a sombrero.
Neat to see Kelly n Jess pull off Coolen’s delayed steal with both on the corners in the first game. Majam scored. Jess advanced to second and Coach was overjoyed to manufacture a run without a batter’s assistance. Wahine first year players witnessed the text book execution of Coolen’s favorite ruse with runners on the corners. Im sure he shouted in the dugout, “that’s how I want it done!” 🙂

Just came back from the softbow’s DH ( and dinner). A few obsrvations…..
1. The first UCR pitcher was deceptively good. She threw a lot of off speed pitches with the the same arm speed as her fastball. It kept the wahine off balanced and lunging for some pitches.
2. In the second game, the UCR pitcher threw flat pitches. Not much movement and she would groove her fastballs when she got behind the batters.
3. The wahine should have had at least three more HR’s but the wind was blowing in from right field and kept the ball in the yard and the UCR centerfielder made a great catch to rob one potential HR.
4. There was about 100 to 150 people in the stands with at least 2/3 of them Hawaii fans. A lot of the local (So Cal) girls friends and family were there in force.
5. I believe I counted no more than 4 or 5 balls leave the infield for UCR in both games combined. ( Tough pitching and very good defense!)
Congads to Joselyn today on her first base hit….hopefully, the first of many.

The Rainbow Wahine softball team will be on television on Wednesday March 16th vs Cleveland State.
Louisiana-Lafayette is no fluke. They are undefeated at 10-0 and ranked #15 in the latest polls (USA/NFCA coaches poll). Last year the lady cajuns climbed into the super-regionals before National Champ, UCLA knocked them out.
Gab Bridges is their leading hitter w .519 BA, 9 HRs, 22 RBIs, 1.593 slugging % and .683 OB average. Wow! LL plays in the Sunbelt and have no quality wins thus far against top ranked teams. They are a sleeper team, however, and pulled off major upsets in the regionals last year, including LSU.
Best memory of AC wasn’t even in a game. While living on campus, I went to the courts and it was just AC and I. He didn’t mind that I took shots with him. My competitive juices started to go up and I took shots from the 3-point line where he was and where I never make it. But that day, I did. At least for one day, I felt like I could play with the best of them. Thanks AC for giving me the time of day.
I think Kealoha really got some looks after the USC game. He burned several DBs for the two TDs he had. Plus he out jukes everyone.

Not to mention, the appeal, a nationally acclaimed and record-breaking, fence-busting team brings.
This team was nominated for an Emmy for their dramatic come-from-behind-victory over #1 seeded Alabama in the super regionals last year. You would think that would merit local TV coverage with the HEART N SOUL OF THE ORDER RETURNING.
Local TV coverage for home games makes sense. FANS would anticipate radio coverage on the road, at the very least.
At a time when folks crave a winner and a great story to perk them up during extreme economic austerity….local coverage decides to sleep–
go figure…?
I feel kinda bad that people cannot read the old blogs of 2007–especially in the period of Blog Party 1 through April 2007, which were the defining months of The Warrior Beat–also it’s meteoric rise and near fatal decline…and rise again the day pride. captured the full moon to fly as the battle ensign of ST’s blogship (metaphorically). I never got the story behind ST’s decision that saved the blog for us… but his Tsai-kos remember he cared, and are mostly still here today, even if only lurking. I guess we have to wait until ST writes his book.
I imagine that there will be a data DVD enclosed with his book. One which contains the complete blog archives and movies recorded by LizKauai (mostly karaoke calls and Bulla’s “Tsai-ko Culture” speech”).
Now, ST did not say he is writing a book.
I’m just saying… 🙄

The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
