Paredes wins WAC award

Linebacker Corey Paredes has been named the WAC’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Paredes had nine tackles and forced two fumbles, including one near the goal line that resulted in a touchback, in the Warriors’ 27-21 victory over Nevada.

UH nominated Moniz, and I thought he would win the WAC offensive player of the week. However, the La Tech QB was deserving…it sounds like they have settled on a QB now.

Jenkins, a senior from Houston, Texas (Langham Creek HS), threw for a career-high 422 yards and three touchdowns in Louisiana Tech’s 48-35 win over Idaho on Saturday. It was the most yards thrown by any quarterback in the nation over the weekend and sixth most this season. He was 31-of-44 with no interceptions and also rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

I like the way Kapernick said that Hawaii’s defense didn’t do anything special to stop them. Nothing special? Hilarious!

Our defense just tackled, intercepted, forced fumbles and made spectacular individual plays all night to cut the Wuppie’s offense in half!

Maybe Kapernick thinks HE should get the WAC Defensive POTW, after all he said the Wuppies offense “did it to themselves”.

DPK: The mutant stork as Defensive POW? LOL, I like it.

RedZone: Totally agree about Purcell. Umu played well too. But Geordan Hanohano inside was a freaking ROCK! This is the best two deep DT rotation that I can remember.

  44. CajunWarrior October 18, 2010 7:43 am

I know this is off topic but what do Greg Salas and Kealoha Pilares run the 40 yard dash in? I’ve searched all over the internet and have found no information. Thanks!

  45. Pride. October 18, 2010 7:43 am

I’ve gotten to see some very special players over the years. Greg Salas has got to be somewhere near the top of that list.

  46. Da Punchbowl Kid October 18, 2010 7:44 am

I like the name “The Mutant Stork”! Hilarious! That’s a “freaky” description isn’t it? 😆

The defense kept the stork stuck in the mud by not letting him hit his stride. Anybody else notice that? He just couldn’t get it out of low gear!

In all seriousness, it was nice to see our defense shut down a guy who’s obviously a very talented player.

    True dat, Pride.

The nice thing about this year’s team is that we have more than a few outstanding individual players, but nobody comes off as the star. Great leadership all over the team.

If these guys can stay humble, hungry and focused, they have the players to run the WAC!

My friends were in wonderment that Moniz was a walk-on and delivering pizza just last year. Doing a great job. Wonder if he’s going to continue flying under the national radar? #1 in offense last week and NO recognition? If we keep winning, let’s hope the writers give him the exposure due.

@33 – I agree, let’s name Kap the WAC Player of the Week. He wants to say we didn’t do anything to stop them? Then let’s name him Hawaii’s MVP of the game too.

With five minutes to go in the fourth quarter and the score 35-28 Warriors, Utah State quarterback Diondre Borel cuts to the outside heading to the end zone to tie the game when out of the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s Corey Paredes swooping down to pick up Borel and toss him into his own end zone for a safety.

    Aloha, Tsaiko Ohana!

Good story in the N.Y. Times about Boise State’s chance for a NCS berth. Includes the following concerning Hawaii’s role:

“The WAC is actually much improved this season thanks to surprising efforts by Fresno State (4-2), Hawaii (5-2) and Nevada (6-1), but the biggest assets for Boise State (6-0) would be an undefeated record and disarray elsewhere.

Nevada’s loss at Hawaii on Saturday night could be a blow to Boise State because Nevada was ranked No. 19. That means Boise State may not have another team in the Associated Press rankings on its schedule. (In the B.C.S. standings, No. 26 Nevada and No. 34 Hawaii at least have a pulse.) ”

    Back to work. Esme woosh!!

  121. Ipu Man October 18, 2010 9:26 am

Michigan Warrior, usually I am with your prediction

of a high score. What will UH do to reach 63? (and I

  122. 49erWarrior October 18, 2010 9:28 am

What a turnaround of good fortune. I remember before the season started the O-line and the defense where considered questionable, not now. The team seems to have come full circle! Just got to keep up the relentlessness, work on special teams and. Should be able to rule the WAC. Look out Boise & Utah St., we gunning for you now. Congrats to the defense on shutting down the Pack, what a wonderful performance!

Neither Kaepernick nor Taua gained 100 rushing yards Saturday night. Gotta give credit where credit’s due. Prior to the game, experts were still saying how both of them were going to have monster games since UH is weak against the run.

A-House… our D is playing like we knew they would/could! We talked about this before. Imagine if they started the season like this? Wow! Still got lots to accomplish… one game at a time!

  125. madeinhawaii October 18, 2010 9:32 am

    Funny…

We all knew after the Warriors beat La Tech that the Fresno game would be the defining one…

We all knew after the Warriors beat Fresno on the road that the Nevada game would loom HUGE!

But with an undefeated WAC season in tow… who would have imagined that the Utah State game would loom even bigger? When you’re undefeated in conference or schedule, every upcoming game is huge… every upcoming game is bigger than the last.

    Who would have thunk?

Good place to be in .

  126. Michigan Warrior October 18, 2010 9:34 am

Ipu Man… although most are kinda expecting a more defensive game like we had against Reno, I somehow feel like our offense will break loose, our defense will continue with what they’ve been doing the past few weeks, and our Special Teams will finally get it together.

Just a feeling. Everything’s coming together.

I also feel like our Homecoming will be a monster game too, with nearly everyone getting a chance to get onto the field.

As far as last week’s guesses… I think everyone overbid. Lowest guesses had UH with 28 points.

Unless… in case of a tie, then the one who didn’t go over is the tie-breaker.

Are there any former players on the blog or anyone who have been to the Boise stadium on the field; are the Broncos hard to see as viewed on tv? Cause there home winning percentage is almost 100%, think they only lost 2 games on the blue field. Just curious..IMUA

  140. Michigan Warrior October 18, 2010 10:01 am

Might need one more tie-breaker… the one closest to UH’s score, without going over, is the second tie-breaker.

    Could’ve been like…

    Guess One: UH26 – 17Reno, 1+4=5 under

    Guess Two: UH28 – 17Reno, 1+4=5 over

    Make sense?

    I love college football.

I love how Corey Paredes pimp slapped Colin “Cry Baby” Crap-n-Shit all night long.

I love how Bryant Moniz is slowly but surely showing the nation he is an All-American caliber QB.

I love how Greg Salas is a beast on the field running over sorry arse DB’s and Safeties.

I love how Kealoha Pilares outruns and jukes everyone enroute to the endzone.

I love how Alex Green is a monster in the backfield and should see more touches.

I love how the offensive line is holding it down and playing physical.

I love how the defensive line is playing with an attitude and getting that lettuce.

I love how the secondary is picking offenses apart.

I love how the LB’s are hitting everything in sight.

I love how we got two badass freshman in John Hardy-Tuliau and George Daily-Lyles lighting it up on D and special teams.

I love how Jordon Monico smacks the shit out of the return man.

I love how opponents cry and get their wittle hearts broken playing against the Warrior Nation!

I love how the rest of the WAC and Boise State is going to she she pants having to play against us knowing we’ll ruin any chance of them reaching a BCS Bowl Game!

Yeah, but we’d still need a tie-breaker just in case two or more guesses are equal in points, if they aren’t the exact score.

Keep it closest without either score going over.

If a tie, then closest to UH’s score will solve it.

yup, all of the above is possible.

    the obvious;

    improve the kick coverage

    reduce the unnecessary penalties

    take care of the ball

punch it in from the red zone, td’s vs fg’s.

    improve third down efficiency

    keep improving week after week

    above all else the intangibles;

    stay hungry

    play confident but not cocky

    respect every team and player

play every play like it is your last

play smart, give it your all mentally as well as physically

play with emotion but without thought

know your role and do it

keep training hard and continue to compete for your position

    study hard

okay the list could go on.

  169. Michigan Warrior October 18, 2010 10:34 am

Didn’t they say that we got the penalty because our bench was running onto the field? I was watching another game where, after a touchdown, the receiver was picked up (carried) by an O-Lineman, and they got flagged for excessive celebration.

Gotta do like the old days. Score or make a play, give the ball to the Ref., and just hustle back to the huddle or sidelines.

  170. al October 18, 2010 10:39 am

#158…i believe a lot had to do with the team pouring out on to the field after the pick. this included coaches, too. it was worth the penalty.

what i did like is that we recognized that we needed a first down and went after it as we know how…passing the ball. but, the first one came too quick and we needed another. we went after it again which really sealed the victory.

    exxpat:

penalty was for the “sideline” players who stormed the field after the interception.

    TY Aiea:

You got that right – blue turf, blue seats/walls/steps/, blue uniform that matches all the blue – an opponent would have great difficulty distinguishing the BSU player and the background if the fans wear the same color clothes.

    Michagan Warrior:

Yep, we knew the D was going to be good, but I never imagined this good! Our Oline concerns are no more, except for one position, and they, as a unit, have done remarkabley well.

Players gottsa keep up the intensity and the 2nd and 3rd units must be ready to step in individually or enmasse. I believe they will because THEY BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES AND WILL PUSH OTNERS TO PERFORM ON THE SAME LEVEL!!!!!!!!

I need to pay closer attention to where Vaughn is aligned – did not know he played the DE position on certain plays.

  173. Warrior Expat October 18, 2010 10:45 am

Thanks, A-House, I was wondering about that (the WSN PPV feed didn’t really make it that clear that people were storming the field right after). I guess that’s probably fair then.

I watched the game with my dad at his place and he was marveling in the last minute how the Warriors passed the ball to run out the clock instead of running. He’s watched this team before but he was amazed at the confidence in the passing game.

    Great job to the Warriors!!!

Utah State is hereby put on notice.

    4. Hawaii QB Bryant Moniz will be the best player in the WAC, and won’t get first or second-team all-conference honors.

It’ll be a coin-flip between Boise State’s Kellen Moore and Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick for the First Team All-WAC quarterback slot, and Moore will win it and will end up being in New York as a Heisman finalist. But it’ll be Moniz, the Hawaii junior quarterback, who’ll do more for his team and will be the best player in the conference. He’ll finish the year in the top three nationally in total offense, and with over 300 passing yards per game against everyone but USC (and that was only because he was knocked out for a stretch), and with 18 touchdowns so far and just four interceptions, he’s one of the nation’s hottest passers and will keep being a major playmaker for an attack that keeps on putting up numbers like the June Jones days.

  182. NorthShoreFan October 18, 2010 11:05 am

    Kaeperdick’s statement….

“There was nothing Hawaii did tonight to stop us,” said Kaepernick, who had just 30 yards rushing on 11 carries and passed for just 159 yards (14-of-26). “It was just a lack of execution.”

Maybe…just maybe the odda 12 guys acorss da line had somting to do with your crappy execution?..huh?…maybe?…i tot i saw 12 odda guys across from you..

Anyhoo, Vaughn “da lettuce man” Meatoga, Corey “not in my house” Paredes and company…JOB WELL DONE!

    Kaimuki Kid:

We noticed that same thing on the replay yesterday – several times Nevada’s 2 other QBs, who were sending in the signals, were still on the field with Ault when Nevada snapped the ball. Whats up with dat???????

No call by the side judge who was on the sideline – guess they were advised on who should win the game?

I kidded Mrs A-House before we left home that someone in the WAC office told the Refs that Nevada, being the 19th ranked team, should continue to be ranked when they play Boise St. I found it interesting that the “head ref” spent additional time with the team captains at mid-field before the game started. Wonder what he was telling them?

Last year the guys rolled up 360 rushing yards against USU. More rushing yards than passing. Probably have to go back a few years to find the last time that happened.

I was somewhat surprised with all the silence re practices during the week that Rolo didn’t pull any tricks or special formations out of his hat. It seemed like that was something that might be expected — like the empty backfield we saw a little while ago.

Then again, it was great to see the guys win doing what they usually do.

Last year’s game against USU featured over 1100 combined yards. USU has slung it around some this year and they have also run well against some teams. Could be interesting depending on how much pressure the line puts on Burel.

  190. AlaWai October 18, 2010 11:21 am

I saw an “execution” on Saturday! Kaepernick, Ault and Nevada were tried, sentenced and executed by the Warriors for crimes against the WAC.

    NorthShore Fan:

    Kaeperdick’s statement….

“There was nothing Hawaii did tonight to stop us,” said Kaepernick, who had just 30 yards rushing on 11 carries and passed for just 159 yards (14-of-26). “It was just a lack of execution.”

  191. Expat,

Utah State’s defensive line was simply NO match for our offensive line last season.

Now, Green is running much stronger than he was last season and our offensive line is even MUCH BIGGER, especially on the inside this year.

I expect Coach Shaw and Coach Rolo to draw up a few nice running attacks for this Saturday!

  192. A-House October 18, 2010 11:25 am

With the sudden emergence of the “running” game, I do hope that a very good running back with blocking skills will take notice that the Warrior’s run-n-shoot offense sorely needs an effective ground game to make the passing more effective.

Alex Green’s last 2 games were indeed a very pleasant surprise and his running gave a new, differenet perspective to UH’s offense.

Wonder who Doe Henderson was referring to when he mentioned he had 3 defensive players at Crenshaw who would fit well in Hawaii? Right on!!!!!!!!!

This is a good example of individuals being out there who can contriubte to recruiting better and better players for the Warriors. Don’t have to be a former player, but one who can appreciate a student athlete’s talents – academic and athletic.

  193. Ronnie October 18, 2010 11:25 am

I haven’t used any comparisons between this year and last year. Moniz was thrown into the fire, we had a ton of injuries, and our offense and defense weren’t doing particularly well.

This year, as of the past couple of games, our offense still isn’t clicking like they need to, but they’ve been scoring when we need scores. Our Special Teams have had their moments, but they’ve also had break downs. Biggest difference is the fire and consistency with which our defense has been playing this year.

I’m hoping they continue to improve, and clean up the penalties on both offense and defense, while fixing things on Special Teams.

Until the Warriors can prove they can compete with “the big boys” consistently they will never get respect. I will always cheer for them but lets be honest the people in the mainland is delusional they will never give us credit. Somebody said Boise would lose to Vanderbelt that is just ridiculous… Hawaii just needs to let its play do the talking an lets just forget about the ranking right now. Play like your number 1 every game…

    Go WARRIORS

  203. Leave Kaepernick alone.

    al,

Where’s the parking lot and what’s the password?

  208. Markazulu,

    Correction. You are wrong.

The Warriors can play with the big boys and if they beat them, it will be dubbed as a one time thing and they will cite that if UH plays (insert BCS team) 10 more times, the other team will beat UH 9 out of 10 times.

Recent example. Look at Wahine softball. What else did they need to do to earn respect up until the day they left Tuscaloosa and Bama behind with the Crimson Tide nowhere to go afterwards???

Still the question marks on the faces of the softball “gurus” got bigger and the cries of “foul play” with “juiced bats” and small fields just drowned the proper respect they should have gotten.

Let’s face it… Hawaii teams will ALWAYS have to go beyond what is possible on a yearly basis to get any sniff at all.

    ALWAYS!

Actually if we look at Wahine volleyball I guess it takes about 20 years of consistence to get the respect they are enjoying year in and year out… right? As opposed to a big name school that has a few good years in a row… 🙄

I will always cheer for the Warriors an all Hawaii Athletics. The Wahine Softball team was excellent I swear when they beat Alabama the announcers at ESPN sounded so depressed that they hit a home run on the last play

  215. madeinhawaii October 18, 2010 11:58 am

Thing is, to get respect … we first gotta beat Boise.

  216. TorresFan October 18, 2010 11:58 am

@202 – a major problem is that UH plays many of their games while most of the mainland is asleep. Saturday’s huge win over the 19th ranked team in the country ended at about 2:30am on the east coast. The Warriors start half their games after the college highlight shows are over and within hours of a UH home game the NFL gameday previews begin and the prior day’s college games are a distant memory. I’m sorry but the whole victimization b.s. about getting no respect from the mainland is childish.

  217. Markazulu October 18, 2010 12:02 pm

My biggest gripe about college football is all the ESPN analyst saying is Boise able to hang with the big boys. They always bring up Notre Dame’s history or Michigans history but lack that type of thinking to any one outside the BCS conferences fact is Boise is 2-0 in the BCS. Every game that is a must win they show up an find a way to win. What happens really irritates me is last year both TCU & Boise go undefeated an they were questioned the whole way if they could be a BCS team then what I wondered is why did they make both of them play each other in the BCS bowl game they should’ve let both Boise and TCU play in a separate bowl game against a BCS caliber team an see what happens whether its a blow out or not give them a chance. But instead to keep there ridiculous argument of the Non AQ teams cant compete alive they made them play each other thats obviously suspicious if they were really interested. BCS Unbiased I Think Not!

  218. madeinhawaii October 18, 2010 12:02 pm

216 no problem state your mind you can call me childish all you like its your opinion an your entitled to it. No biggie. I’m not trying to potray Hawaii as a victim I’m just saying I’m sick of all the talk of we cant compete with them. They act like upsets dont happen an thats why they play the game I’m just tired of all the assumptions of we’d get blown out every game.

well that is another key to finishing out the season strong. we can’t be overlooking utah st and idaho. we can’t be looking ahead to boise state.

we need to take care of utah st and idaho first. we have become the new target for everyone else. it won’t mean as much if we lose to those two before we beat boise state.

    focus…focus…focus.

  225. A-House October 18, 2010 12:25 pm

    Ronnie:

Yep, on the game replay yesterday, Kapernick was seen pounding his helmet on the stadium turf and should have been penalized 15 yards for unsportsman like conduct, but the “ref” was next to him and did not throw the flag – I was too busy watching the Warrior interception celebration for which UH was flagged for excessive celebration and UH would have gotten the ball near the 25 yard line on “off-setting penalties”. Also, watching the replay, it appears that Mana Silva would have a clear field to run to the left for a TD as the only Nevada player got pancaked just as he slid. Kapernick would have been the only player with enough speed to try and catch Silava, but it would have been in vain as Mana would have had 3 or 4 team mates running along side of him to the end zone. It would have been hilarious to see Kapernick running after Silva without his helmet!!!!!!!!!

    markazulu:

I too dislike, putting it mildly, people constantly bringing up the loss to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. IMHO, Georgia rather than LSU, should have been in the national championship game against Ohio State.

Georgia, IMHO, was the #1 team in the country in 2007/08 and they would have beaten any other team in a BCS bowl game. Yes, the Warriors did not play well and that’s another story for another time.

Seems we are still in need of a “good/great” LT on the Oline. Kainoa LaCount put the hurt on #55 of Nevada each time he switched from right to left end. It was a pleasure to watch with the binocs.

  229. Markazulu October 18, 2010 12:36 pm

Yeah A-House I agree it’s kinda hard to argue LSU in the title game because they won but Georgia easily could’ve gone into it. I just had a hard time understanding how Illinois got into the rose bowl an they had like 3 loses an was ranked like 19 at the time. They could’ve put Mizzou or Kansas in the BCS instead but put illinois I just found that odd. An the thing that I get mad at isnt the fact that we lost to Georgia because they’re a good team but the fact that the mainland people think that 1 game is a PURE representative of Warrior Football. 100 years an thats the only thing they base our game on they cant let it go you dont see me rubbing Notre Dame’s face in them losing the sugar bowl in 2006 41-14.

I’m suprised nobody has mentioned the referees in the Georgia game! It was soooo scaring watching the right d-end jumping early, and then the left end figured out that he could do it a couple of times too. I’ll watch the game again with anyone, commercials included, and it will be easy to see the game was completely unfair for the warriors. Oh, and by the way, when people stopped talking about the game the entire referee crew got suspended for it…

  245. muficrombie,

Good luck on that one. Believe me, I tried and have been trying since 2008. The UA game ready jerseys are of higher quality than the ones Nike supplied the team. For starters, the numbers are not printed/painted on. They are fully embroidered on.

Nike once released game ready jerseys for #15. They went for about $280.00. Got one and still have it.

FYI, at the stadium in the Under Armour tents, they do have #s 17, 1, and 21 for sale. Replica ones though.

  248. A-House October 18, 2010 1:42 pm

    Souljah:

A-House family with you on the Sugar Bowl refs. We was yelling “off-side” every time. Too bad we were 7 rows from the top and ineffective.

Certain individuals believe that the refs have very little to do with the out come of a game. I will beg to differ each and every time. Those penalties and non-calls make a huge difference in momentum.

BTW, on that long kick-off return by Nevada, any one else see the Nevada player grab a Warrior by the jersey and fling him to the ground with the ref right on the scene. Non-call. The Nevada player kept jumping up and down like he made a good tackle (which he did).

  249. muficrombie October 18, 2010 1:45 pm

Kazz, thank you for that info. $280 for game cut is pretty good–and especially in Colt’s number. That’s a nice piece to have. I asked because when I was on the East Coast and visited South Carolina they had UA jerseys that were twill but were not “game ready.” Definitely thicker material and similar to the Reebok NFL ones that are not game authentic but have twill numbers.

I just noticed this. Though I was not really a fan of the color scheme this is definitely a rare piece of memorabilia. Not too many of these floating around with the silver numbers that Papa Leahey couldn’t see. I would have paid $150 if I was aware it was up. Buyer IMHO got a steal.

  251. muficrombie,

Honestly brah… if I had my hands on that white away jersey with the silver nunbers, I’d burn it.

It’s funny the rationale when it was explained where the hell the silver came from.

So apparently the silver was supposed to represent the reflection of the sun on the rain that falls in Manoa….

    Think about that people…

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SUNLIGHT HITS RAINDROPS???

A RAINBOW APPEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT THE SOLITARY COLOR OF “SILVER”!!!!

    What a spin huh??? 😆

  252. muficrombie,

If you like rare stuff, try http://www.prideofhawaiisports.com.

You might find something you like. I bought several game-ready UH helmets from this guy.

    I love college football!

The rivalries cannot be beaten. Speaking of which, though it was great to beat Fresno St. and Nevada and have a chance at Boise on the smurf turf, I am deeply saddened to lose these teams as rivals to look forward to each year… especially Fresno State.

My first really passionate experience with Hawaii football came in 1999 when Hawaii beat the Bulldogs in double overtime to win a share of the WAC title. I remember the stadium shaking when Craig Stutzman caught that pass from Dan Robinson in the corner of the endzone in double overtime. I remember Billy Volek sitting on the turf after being sacked by Joe Correia. I posted the Star Bulletin front page of the sports section in my room and it stayed there, yellowing with age for six years until my parents sold the house after I had moved out.

My fandome for the Warriors has only gotten stronger since. I thought it was somewhat appropriate that I attend the Fresno State game in Fresno this year. It was kind of a chicken-skin moment when I really thought about how far I have come as a fan and as a person since November 12, 1999.

I hope the next set of rivals will provide the memories and competition that Hawaii needs to feed the passion that the fans want to feel.

    Go Warriors!!!

    +1 on http://www.prideofhawaiisports.com

I ordered a helmet from there as well. Order came super fast, exactly as described and totally satisfied with the experience. My next purchase will be a Bess jersey as it seems he will be with the Dolphins for a while longer.

I always wondered what happened to the silver number jerseys. No doubt those are rare. I remembered that they were not tapered at first, then tapered and then gone all together.

The guy that runs it, Greg, is pretty straight up. Ran into him at some UH fundraisers last season and the season before that, like the UH baseball grand slam celebration and the 2008 “Get In The Game” fundraiser for ALL of UH athletics.

  271. Steve,

    It’s softball. I won’t be angry.

Well, until Clyde Torigoe is working behind the plate…. 😈

I dunno why but the little things like taking 5 seconds to call a strike drives me nuts and it seems the local umpires are more guilty of it than most…

  275. It’s getting harder and harder to watch the Wahine in WAC play.

It’s like one long series of exhibition matches one after the other.

I mean the ONLY highlight of the WAC season last year was eventually counting down to win #1000 for Dave Shoji against NMSU. This year… business as usual!

  279. Mrs. A-House October 18, 2010 3:08 pm

    I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!

    Greetings Everybody!

It never ceases to amaze me when I come across someone (it’s happened many times) who has absolutely no interest in sports of any kind. Missing out on a whole lot of enjoyment in life…don’t you Tsaikos agree?…and when OUR Warriors pull out in splendid fashion one of, if not the most, exciting and critical games EVER, well let’s savor that for another day or so, at least.

    Coach Mack –

Hope those two coolers full of ice and gatorade poured over your head after the final whistle on Satuday night served it’s intended purpose of expressing the JOY / HAPPINESS / IMMENSE PRIDE of every Warrior football fan, and did not negatively affect your health and well-being in any way. The joy and happiness that your face expressed brought tears to my eyes as you repeated as you’ve done many times before, that the Warriors play hard with pride and honor, representing the entire State of Hawaii. CONGRATULATIONS ON A HUGE VICTORY!!…it was our privilege to be in attendance to witness extraordinary excellence!

To Each and Every Warrior football player –

You’ve made us fans immensely proud. Continue to work hard, focus on minimizing mistakes/penalties and put forth your best efforts, not only during practice, but also on game day. The season is not over until the fat lady sings at the final whistle of the last game of the season/postseason. CONGRATULATIONS – CONTINUE TO GO WARRIORS!

    To the Coaches –

CONGRATULATIONS! Must be so gratifying to know that your methods/ideas/communication with the young men you’re training are generating positive results. We appreciate you and your efforts very, very much.

    Colt Brennan –

Mr. A-House posted earlier today that I am one of your aunties that you “never knew you had?. I take exception to that. I’ve personally spoken with you on the phone (thanks to ST), and I could have sworn that you started the conversation like this…”Hi Auntie!…how you doing?” Perhaps you don’t rememer that conversation, but if you would please refer to any ladies who can’t keep their hands off of you and want to extend the length of their loving hugs “Auntie”, you will bring so much joy/excitement/long-lasting happiness to the wahine fans who, shall we say, are of the more mature genre.

Hey, Mahalo nui loa! for flying in to attend the Nevada game on Saturday night. Having you present in the locker room and on the sidelines added that magic touch that surely helped to ensure the hard-earned VICTORY!

If you will be in Hawaii for a while, are you available for lunch at a Tsaiko CC (cattle call meal)? Since you are now a professional athlete, it would be my huge pleasure to treat you to lunch/dinner, whatever you wish. Just let Tsaiko Al (through Stephen Tsai) know if you are available. I can predict that the turnout at the CC would be out-of-sight HUGE!

Hope you’re reading this because this post is taking up a lot of space on this blog. Nah, j/k. Best wishes for continued good health, stay in shape, continue practicing and be ready for that “call” that we hope and pray will come really soon. Warmest Aloha from the entire A-House Ohana.

  280. Mrs. A-House October 18, 2010 3:17 pm

    Corey Paredes –

CONGRATULATIONS! on your selection as WAC Defensive Player of the Week…well deserved to say the least. Fans will thoroughly enjoy watching again and again that strip of the ball from Kaepernick’s hand as he exited the corner of the endzone. Pure pleasure to watch! Mr. A-House works with your Uncle Ron, and we will ask your Uncle to shake your hand an give you a bear hug of appreciation and congratulations from the entire A-House ohana.

  281. wafan October 18, 2010 3:24 pm

    Mrs. A-House . . .

I Do not sing in public very often . . .

Oh wait. You said fat lady.

    Never mind.

  282. wafan October 18, 2010 3:25 pm

Prayers and positive thoughts to the Seau family.

Healing for not just the phyical body but the mind as well.

  283. Mrs. A-House October 18, 2010 3:27 pm

To the handful of Nevada players who stayed behind after the game to shake hands –

It was nice to see that there were at least a few genuine Nevada footballers who play hard, leave the game on the field after it’s over, and respect the game enough to let the victorious team know that the better team won because that team was the better team on that night (unlike a few poor sport “stars” who are unable to set aside their pride/ego and acknowledge a solid winning performance when it’s obvious).

  284. (Jesse) James October 18, 2010 3:31 pm

    Good Afternoon Tsaikos…

Great game on Saturday….A little disappointed in Nevada’s sportsmanship after the game. Most of the team ran to the locker rooms without congratulating Hawaii and shaking hands….I guess the tears in their eyes said it all….

It was great to see the fan support. Although only 40,800 or so attended the game, the house was rocking just like Boise St. and UW in 2007….

Kazz…I wasn’t able to read yesterday’s blog but did anyone mention Kapaernick’s quote in the paper about UH not stopping Nevada at all but that Nevada simply stopped themselves..??? Your thoughts sir….MWAHAHAHAHHAAHHA

  285. Souljah October 18, 2010 3:32 pm

Thinking about it…Kapearnick’s comment sounded just like Lane Kiffen’s comment at halftime of the USC game. Too bad it didn’t have the same result…

  288. kev-1 October 18, 2010 3:42 pm

Don’t know if this means that UH is getting more attention or not, but next weeks game at USU is on the college pick-ems on ESPN.com. Either this is a random scheduled game roster for the picks, or people are starting to pay attention.

  289. kev-1 October 18, 2010 3:45 pm

I know many people didn’t like the silver, but since some of you are talking about it just thought I’d mention that I loved it. I was really into the many different uni combination options that it gave the Warriors. I like the Oregon trend. I would also like to see a throwback in the mix with the rainbow stripes and the white helmet with the UH rainbow logo. I still think those uni’s are sick.

  290. Bowwar October 18, 2010 3:50 pm

  291. (Jesse) James October 18, 2010 3:50 pm

    oh yeah…and….I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Hey WarriorMojo…nice seeing you at the game…come to the T-gate sometime….

  292. RE: Kaepernick’s Quotes

Several people read Kaepernick’s quotes. I expected it. Seeing the frustration on his face in 2007 and in 2008 and this season you knew it was coming.

Watching the replay of him and Ault just yelling at each other you knew that they did not have their mental faculties in order all day long.

It was deserved and as ST mentioned, it’ a reflection of the staff to their players, especially for the starting QB.

Programs like Fresno State and Nevada don’t hold a candle to Boise State and I said it before. I harbor to ill feelings for Boise making the leap to the MWC (although their other sports leaves NOTHING to the imagination), but you just had to know that the people in FSU and UNR suffer from delusions of grandeur when they thought they “made it” being invited to the same conference as BSU when it was obviously undeserved and nothing but an invite of convenience.

Coach Mack’s post-game comments were well-warranted. He said it best and thank GOD it was said publically. The last two games were really personal and I wasn’t even cheering loudly when Mana Silva ended the game. I just stood there with a medium smirk with my eyes welling up and a feeling in the pit of my stomach.

A month ago I nearly lost it. I was obsessed with thinking about how UH’s athletic future was so uncertain and every moment I enjoyed from all UH sports swirled around in my head. I lost sleep and wasn’t eating properly. It made me physically ill.

Those b______ selfishly left us in a position that could have been deadly. FSU and UNR knew stabilization of the WAC was important and didn’t care. Would UH have done the same? I think it’s COMPLETE BS to think that we would have jumped as easily as that considering the situation. Anyone think we have $5,000,000.00 extra to cough up???? Think the MWC would have paid for us? Not when they are expecting travel subsidies and even in REALITY they didn’t think that was good enough.

It was personal and I’d punch and spit in the faces of Glick and Welty if I had the chance, Welty more so.

It was a fitting touch of karma over the past two weeks.

The team that represented an entire athletic culture that no one wanted is stepping on their throats.

We cannot help our geographical location and anyone trying to rationalize the decisions of others is adding to the death of the art of athletic competition in college athletics. Year after year we have wonderful student athletes representing the University of Hawaii and right now, the impression amongst the powerbrokers in the BCS and university presidents is that the kids that chose to play for UH are not worthy of competition on a national level because of our location or market.

Capitalism has infected college athletic competition. That is a fact. The NCAA is shying away from a gradual privatization of athletic competition. In the ends the student athletes and their REAL fans suffer.

One day those money mongers will have to answer to a higher power and I hope they enjoy their stay in hell.

  293. Hoohiki October 18, 2010 3:54 pm

To the few who posted their reservations about Corey Paredes not being first string material before the season started….How you like ‘im now?

  294. Well, Kaepernick and Lane Kiffen have one thing in common.

Both will not be involved with college football next season.

  295. Speaking of individual players…

I normally do NOT like to harp on indivudals over a team effort or the cause of a team goal, but John Hardy-Tuliau is Mr. Dependable.

Good tackling the way it’s supposed to be done and just good instincts.

Great find for Coach Mack and Co.!

  296. al October 18, 2010 4:01 pm

i thought i saw kapernick go over to the warriors and shook some hands. in fact, i thought i saw taua also go over to the green n black.

  298. Just thought I’d share one of my 1,587 pet peeves.

Through out the season, I’ve had to sit around people constantly yelling “give it to Salas”!!! After a dropped pass or an incompletion, etc…

    What?

    Is this basketball???

Salas is a effin man!!! But geez!!!!!!!!! That is NOT how our offense works!!!!!!!!!

Taua had good things to say about the Warriors. He’s very athletic and an a-okay guy.

  307. To the lady softballers of Christian Brothers University,

Once you hear an Easton Synergy or Stealth make contact with the ball, MOVE!

Saw the Wahine almost decapitate three pitchers for Chaminade last year. All line drives to the kneecaps.

In all seriousness, it was the worst thing I had ever seen in a while followed by the worst sounds I’ve heard in a while. There is nothing worse than hearing someone screaming in pain while on the ground.

  308. Ralph,

Was Jones’ other “dream job” in Oakland?

Big congrats to Corey from ‘downunder’ for his WAC award.

Huge congrats (I’m not biased) to Alex D for “Honorable Mention” in the national college performers of the week.

    Go Warriors.

    Couple of things…

McGarret has his silver Camaro back. Danno still walking with a cane (finally a continuation of something!)

Didn’t see any Disney commercials, but…

    “Mommy it’s Nemo.”

    “Mommy… a Mermaid.”

… followed by talk of “Ms. Pac-Man” (the video game).

A few twists in this one. McGarret’s sister… cute, but stoopid.

Lastly, that Navy friend of McGarret’s is sweet!

Writers are having some fun, but how come that guy didn’t speak with an accent?

Despite that, good show tonight! We liked it!

    Aloha, Tsaiko Ohana!!

Very good story by John Feinstein in the Washington Post on what he calls the BCS soap opera with a mention of Hawaii’s win over Nevada and the contrast to what happens when teams in BCS conferences lose to each other.

    Feinstein says:

“Nowhere is the folly of the BCS more evident than on the network that is paying millions to try to convince the world it is a great thing. On Sunday night, Craig James shook his head talking about the losses suffered by Alabama and Ohio State the last two weeks.

“Playing in those [automatic-qualifying] conferences week in and week out is really tough,” he said.

Robert Smith jumped right in, adding, “It will be interesting to see how the voters deal with Boise State and TCU after Nevada [the No. 2 team in the Western Athletic Conference] and Air Force [the No. 3 team in The Mountain West] lost this week.”

That’s BCS logic: When teams in the power conferences lose, it shows how tough those conferences are; when teams in non-power conferences lose, it is a sign of weakness. ”

    LOL!!

    Go Warriors!! Go Bows!!

  319. Pomai,

Us short people have tempers. 😎

  320. Not an Expert October 18, 2010 5:24 pm

    Food for thought:

The commissioners of the WAC, MWC, C-USA, Others, you guys need to stop being at the affect of the BCS and plan your own destiny with one another. If not and looking back on the past 10 years, everytime a conference gets to a point where there is a powerful team or 2 knocking on the door of the BCS continuously and making that conference stronger, the BCS will offer those schools to join a BCS conference. What they are doing to the non BCS schools and conferences will continue. Playing right into the BCS conference plans until something in the legal spectrum makes them have to change.

The non BCS schools need to create their own agenda and if anything plan to be an equal, somehow in the future. The weak and poor will get weaker and poorer, the game being the survival of the rich and strong as the current system continues. The BCS has the goose that lays the golden eggs and are the ones making the rules. If the non BCS schools allows this to continue, the majority of the BCS schools will not be able to continue financially to compete against the BCS schools. Those who succeed to the BCS will be only a handful, doing things for their interest and taking advantage of their conference and other schools whenever they can.

It will be cut throat for the non BCS schools trying to get to the top inorder to be part of the BCS fraternity.

Everything and anything you might want to know about the Utah State – Hawaii game on Saturday. Amazing site apparently created by a partnership between a Salt Lake area television station and Utah State University.

Spooky statistic: Apparently this will be the third team in a row we have played where the overall record is a tie at game time. We now lead the Fresno State and the Nevada series by one victory, and we are going into Logan with the overall record tied at 5-5!!

  335. Derek October 18, 2010 6:39 pm

This Davey O’Brien is a farce. Guys like Piland, Brantley, Ponder, Jerrod Johnson, Garrett Gilbert, and Colburn do not compare to what Moniz is doing. I wouldn’t even put McElroy on this list. The other guys at least are have pretty good seasons. I am shocked Andrew Luck is not on the list.

The most impressive to me is Newton. Moniz should be in the top 10 easily.

  336. chopsueyboy October 18, 2010 6:44 pm

Somehow after Nevada lost to us

ESPN picked up their game in a couple of weeks against Utah State

    Go figure

  337. chopsueyboy October 18, 2010 6:51 pm

Anyone noticed Moniz using up the play clock

    instead of snapping when set?

On purpose to shorten the game?

We only had 57 offensive plays during a game when

our defense gave us the ball back frequently

instead of allowing long sustained drives.

Doesn’t that allow the defense to tee off on the pass rush?

That game summary on the ksl site starts off badly in its storylines — “USU looking to win two in a row vs. Hawai’i for first time since 1965-66 and take a 6-5 series lead.” Hmmm. I guess they missed last year’s game. They can look, but that one will be pretty hard to find.

    #373.

    Receptions:

    Salas – 36%

    Pilares – 32%

    Pollard – 20%

    Bradley – 12%

Distribution doesn’t look too bad does it? Are we expecting the WR’s to be more productive? I always though that the production kind of resembled that model in this offense. Maybe the ideal would be 30/30/20/20. All depends though on what the defense is giving us.

  381. Pride. October 18, 2010 9:50 pm

    #381.

Really liked what Rodney Bradley did before his injury last year. Was hoping that he just hasn’t had many opportunities to do his thing this year. Really hoping that the injury is pau, and not affecting his play.

  388. madeinhawaii October 18, 2010 10:23 pm

    I don’t know..

Are our Wide Outs running the routes at full speed? Or are they slowing down and/or giving up 75% of the way at times? Moniz seems to have overthrown them a number of times on the deep route and except for the ones that go out of bounds, I have to wonder if the intended receiver ran the route at full speed all the way. I’d like to see more connections on the longer, deeper routes.

Just 6 more games in the regular season.. just six more outings for the players. Six more teams against whom they get to show what they can do. Hope they make each play count. These opportunities for the seniors won’t come again.

To our players, I say.. it’s time to ROAR against the fading of the light! FIGHT against the ebbing of the season! Run every play like it is your last. Take every yard as if the lives of your teammates depended on it. Yet, most of all, enjoy every minute of these last few games!

  396. al October 18, 2010 11:02 pm

what i do like is that we know that utah state is taking the extra week to work on their no huddle offense.

what i also like is that we know that utah state is running the spread offense of which we have had decent success agains recently, i.e. navy and army.

what i also like is the the front four has played really stout.

what i also like is that we know about playing in high altitude so it won’t be a shock to us.

what i also like is that the coaches know that we need to spend extra time on special teams.

yah, i like our chances, but we must prepare mentally for this game. we can beat them phuysically but we must always beat them mentally.

  397. tommui October 18, 2010 11:05 pm

#81 is Royce Pollard who caught the “insurance” pass for a TD in the Nevada game.

I was hoping that Bradley would be catching more passes like he did last year. Hope that his broken leg is healing nicely and that he can resume the pace he was setting last year.

Hi Tsaikos & Tsaikettes, Lurkers & Lurkettes!

    – Congratulations, Corey Paredes! I wish I could do that too! hehe 😎

    – Happy Birthday, Jessica! Good luck and congratulations to you on the birth of your latest addition. 🙂

    Btw, who is Jessica?

    – Was excited to hear that Colt Brennan is here!

If he doesn’t get picked up by an NFL team, would love to see him come back to work with the Warriors and Rolo, not soon but at least some day!

If they could work together, I’d imagine it could make for an even more solid coaching effort! Well, dreaming my thoughts. 😉

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  • Chicken Pasta November 10, 2010 3:36 am

It could be very easy to plan this dinner. You can certainly microwave it or bake it in a conventional oven. Should you choose the oven preparation, you preheat it to 350 degrees, cut a slit in the film cover, bake on a cookie sheet for around twenty-eight minutes. Let stand for two moments in advance of serving. I chose to cook my dinner in the microwave.

Halloween still remains the second best Holiday behind Christman. Seeing all of the children dress up in their costumes and watching their imagination is amazing. I think the maximum age for going trick or treating should be 14. Anything older than that is just awkward.

Goodness please, you are way off on this blog! I think good music comes from so many other sources like daYoungfellaz get their inspiration from living in nyc. Not everyone is the same.

Fantastic blog! I truly love how it is easy on my eyes as well as the data are well written. I am wondering how I could be notified whenever a new post has been made. I have subscribed to your rss feed which should do the trick! Have a nice day!

Truly such a terrific write-up. I’ve been hunting for this info for a long time now and then finally stumbled onto your web site. Thanks a lot for writing this, this has helped me out tremendously. Mind you I like the structure of the website, looks terrific, did you develop it all by yourself?

  • Cleotilde Mejia November 16, 2010 3:31 am

@Admin: Exactly what is the preferred way of contacting you if I have a question regarding adverstising on your website? It looks like you have a fair amount of visitors. I’m interested in either a 125×125 box or a simple text link dependant upon price. Thanks.

  • Lee Mullenaux November 16, 2010 5:00 am

What you’re talking about is completely truthful. I know that every person may not guess the same, but I just think that you write it in a way that everyone can dig.

  • free search resume November 16, 2010 7:46 am

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
