While the Warriors are making an aggressive pursuit of prep prospects, they also are  saving some room for “rebounds.”

The Warriors have been successful in the past in gaining local players who went away to four-year schools and then decided to return home. The list includes Mark Tuinei, Clint Kuboyama, Lui Fuga, Laanui Correa, Wayne Hunter,  David Veikune, Kealoha Pilares, Mana Silva and Kaniela Tuipulotu.

So, are rebounds also going to be announced on signing day? I realize that there would probably no truth to speculation but is there any possible guess as to who the rebound(s) may be?

Since Rebounds have to sit for a year any way what good would it do to save a schollie for them this class when they wouldn’t count towards it anyway?….unless there are rebounds who might have sat out already and are eligible this spring…..the suspense is killing me!!!

  21. tom mui January 27, 2012 6:56 am

  33. graham January 27, 2012 7:48 am

In my opinion they should not let players come back if they recurited them and they decided not to come here. It would make players think twice about leaving the Island

    Luke 15:

21And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

22But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

23And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

24For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

25Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.

26And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

27And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

28And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.

29And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

30But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

31And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

32It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

    Amen…

  38. Kukui High School January 27, 2012 8:14 am

Besides, I guess all of those rebounders ST mentioned never did anything for the program anyways right Graham?

  39. Haleakala January 27, 2012 8:19 am

I didn’t know that Kealoha Pilares was a rebounder. It seems like he played for UH for a very long time.

Pilares initially went to Air Force

You are all invited over to the Ceded Lands tomorrow to check out the new KROC Center.

Grand opening at 10 AM. Just tell ’em “Kekoa” sent you. (DPK…bring Sweetikins and wear your Speedos with matching swim cap).

One of the coolest things about this huge multi-million dollar facility is the access to so many services for all ages.

Das one sure way to get over the old flame. Although I’ve seen a couple that have aged very well. But den, my wife is 19 years younger than me, none of my “old” flames can beat that!

Couch Potato — Tsai-ko planning estimates for Cattle Calls averages only 50% extra space.

e.g. Seating for 15-16 needed for 10 Tsai-kos — and they all want end seats. 🙂

So should be able to fit at least 12 in a 18-person jacuzzi.

  64. AlaWai January 27, 2012 9:40 am

When you think about it, Hawai`i is the most difficult home in the US to leave. No place is like Hawai`i. No family, no food, no beach, no language. It goes on. My years away were brutal. You become the haole, the minority and no one knows how to classify you. The athletes going away deserve credit for taking this step in life. No matter where you go, your heart is still here. Let them go with encouragement and welcome them back when they choose to return. Go Chowarriors!

  67. Buffoman January 27, 2012 9:58 am

Speculating here, what about that big lineman who went to one of those UC schools and kept getting into trouble? Maybe his problem was when he went to order “hamburger steak, gravy all over”, they did not understand, and den they neva have mac salad with bes Foods (they use Miracle Whip, with sweet kine relesh). That would make any food lovin, large and still growning local boy upset.

Maybe he like come home, for one “You Hungry?” or Fat Boy plate lunch without the hassle, and some football under Coach Chow.

  68. al January 27, 2012 10:02 am

    46…is KROC the acronym for

    Kekoa’s

    Recreational

    Outdoor

    Compound

or did the ray kroc foundation toss in some cash?

  69. madeinhawaii January 27, 2012 10:02 am

Problem is, if the big lineman isn’t academically up to snuff, he can’t play until he gets his grades in order. He’ll have to walk on, in that case.

EMM … Jeg kan ikke få det ..

  71. madeinhawaii January 27, 2012 10:10 am

    al,

Development of the Kroc Center was made possible by a $110 million combined capital and endowment grant from a bequest to The Salvation Army by the late Mrs. Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc. As a condition to the significant Kroc grant, the community also raised nearly $23 million locally, bringing the project to $133 million.

When Mrs. Kroc passed away in October 2003, she left $1.5 billion – much of her estate – to The Salvation Army, by far the largest charitable gift ever given to The Army, and the largest single gift given to any charity at one time. The initial disbursements of this bequest began in January 2005. The gift had by then grown to $1.8 billion and was split evenly among the four Army Territories – Central, East, South and West. The money was designated to build a series of state-of-the-art Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Centers nationwide patterned after the San Diego center.

I need to come see you about a picture frame to be handmade. It’s approximately the size of the largest movie photos you see in the theater lobbies. Nothing fancy, just something to display it until I get tired of looking at it.

You should see some of the photos BarryM shot at the Pro Bowl practice session yesterday. Wow!…look like you were inside the action!

Great candid shots of the players and the fans just relaxing and enjoying each others company…as it should be. No pushing or shoving, just smooth and easy.

id rather have rebounders than grayshirts. rebounders are known qualities with some college experience. we have always had rebounders, but i suspect, under Chow, it could be significant. REM Agenhart Ellis (Kam/KU) and Arnold Morgado (Pun/MSU)? Rebounders, both played in the hula bowl.

Since many local boys go to the PAC 12, there are many that may be nostalgic for Honolulu’s City lights. Here’s the problem, a rebounder must gain a release from his school. It could get nasty as Jeff Tedford, testy Golden Bear head coach demonstrated with SLHS athlete Scott Smith.

    Imua Warriors!

  95. National BankCard Monitor January 27, 2012 12:16 pm

Throughout the great pattern of things you secure an A for effort and hard work. Where you actually misplaced everybody was in your facts. As as the maxim goes, details make or break the argument.. And that could not be much more correct here. Having said that, permit me inform you just what did deliver the results. Your writing can be extremely persuasive and this is probably the reason why I am taking the effort in order to comment. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Next, whilst I can easily notice the leaps in reason you come up with, I am not necessarily certain of just how you seem to connect your ideas which produce the final result. For now I shall subscribe to your issue but trust in the foreseeable future you link your dots much better.

  96. Ipu Man January 27, 2012 12:18 pm

Kekoa, I made a lot of ipu lamps here in Hawaii. But got the idea for my name from a faux stained glass I did of a Hawaiian in a bamboo forest with an ipu in his hands. In fact, started today to make another one which I will show at next year’s Christmas craft show. Warm

regards to you and your brother, the ipu man.

    This is funny….

A MN Trooper related (I’m abridging because I can’t cut and paste):

I made a traffic stop on an elderly lady the other day for speeding.

I asked her for her License, Registration and Proof of Insurance.

She obliged with all the requested documents. In the documents I was surprised to see (because of her advanced age) a Concealed Carry Permit.

I looked at her and asked if she had a weapon in her possession at that time.

She said she indeed had a .45 automatic in the glove box.

Something about her demeanor made me ask if she had any other weapons.

She admitted that she had a 9mm Glock in her center console.

I had to ask her to tell me if that was all.

She responded that she had one more – a .38 Special in her handbag.

I asked her what she was so afraid of.

She said, “Not a f*@$#n’ thing!”

Bryson, just wondering, did you come across that ESPN rumor (#162) somewhere on the Net, or is that speculation based on the Sports by Brooks article?

  170. Buffoman January 27, 2012 3:42 pm

Mr. A. Wiley’s running style reminds me of two famous runners when they were in college, Gale Sayers (Kansas) and O.J. Simpson (USC). He runs without any effort and simply makes people miss him. He seems to have terrific vision and that burst of speed that is almost undetectable. I think he could do this at the college level with a creative offensive scheme (like Coach Chow’s) and a few more speed/power muscles he’ll grow into.

I believe he would be the prize of the 2012 graduating HS football class.

He would look spectacular is dark green and black. With a stellar run blocking line, an offense that uses H-back, T/E and fullbacks in different run/pass schemes, a gifted runner could be simply electric.

It would be a great catch to get him to commit to Uncle Norm.

“…As I’ve said earlier, it is an exciting time. But, the enthusiasm has to be tempered by understanding the task that is at hand. The hard work that’s gonna be necessary to compete in the Coliseum. I’ve competed in the Coliseum many a time. And I understand in a couple of weeks it’s BYU in Provo. I get that. I get that. I’ve been coaching for a long time. But, how much more exciting does it get than that? How much of a bigger challenge do you want? And if you didn’t like challenges you shouldn’t be in the business.

In addition to Oline (where Warriors lost 6 former starters – Faaumu, Laurel, Lefiti, Leonard, Sapolu, Hansen), JMHO but still need some recruits at the DT position (since lost 3 former starters – Masch, Meotoga, Tuipulotu; and only 5 DTs returning on the roster – Correa, Hanohano, Samia, Matagiese, Friel).

Kinda wondering since not hearing anything about any possible DT prospects being recruited or tripping this weekend. Not sure what’s up with Sione Lavaka (who committed before coaching change), but other JC DT prospects (Gauta & Pennel) have already committed elsewhere and no top Class of 2012 local high school DT prospects available.

this is what Anthony Fletcher’s Deseret High School Az Blog is saying about Dustin Adams.

Have you guys heard anything about Minot’s Dustin Adams possibly decommitting from Hawaii?

We had read some stuff about Adams decommitting from Hawaii, so we were looking into it. I have made some calls on this recently and here’s how I understand it to be from a source in Minot:

Gordy Shaw was Adams’ original recruiter and connection to Hawaii and the main reason why Adams originally committed to play there. Shaw was the o-line coach there and previously had been the o-line coach at USD prior for a short stint and at Minnesota for a very long time under Glen Mason and was the primary recruiter of the state of Minnesota. Shaw has always liked the Minnesota/North Dakota type of o-lineman. Shaw was also solely responsible for bringing 4-year starter and All-American Center Greg Eslinger from Bismarck to Dinkytown. We all know how that turned out.

Once the 2011 Hawaii staff was ultimately fired in December, Adams reconsidered because Shaw was gone. Our sources in Minot tell us that new Hawaii Head Coach Norm Chow recently flew out to Minot to tell Adams his scholarship offer at Hawaii was still good.

Since then, Adams has been wavering with Shaw now gone. Also, Northern Illinois has reportedly entered the fold too in the last few weeks. Guess who the o-line coach at NIU is? You got it, former UND o-line coach Rod Carey who is a former o-line assistant at Minnesota under?…….Gordy Shaw.

It will be interesting to see what Adams does. Stay closer to home and play FCS in the Big Sky for UND, go further from home and play in the MAC at NIU, or go as far away from home as possible to tropical Hawaii and play for Norm Chow in the WAC.

    We’ll try keep you posted…

Also, other than Jer Garman’s tweet, have you received confirmation on Ryan Cain? I’m assuming you’re working up a writeup on him, but I was just curious if there was any other confirmation other than Jer’s tweet.

Dustin Adams is committing to Northern Illinois

Dustin Adams, no doubt NIU is a very good program. you will be very welcome in Hawaii. and you will find yourself extremely well coached, motivated, and learn discipline at the level of #184 above, the Norm Chow level.

Dustin Adams. read 184 above. you’ll never find that level of preparation, the Norm Chow level of preparation, at NIU. read Coach Chow’s bio. listen to his former players. learn why Utah recruits are coming to Hawaii. the ballers want to play for Chow.

    thats the facts.

  204. oldtimer808 January 27, 2012 9:08 pm

That Ursua is some athlete. The kid is a heck of a point guard. Coach Gibb could use that boy. He could play wide receiver or a running back.

  205. BigHiloFan2 January 27, 2012 9:11 pm

the fact that mums the word gives me the feeling that Dustin Adams is thinking long and hard about his future.

bottom line, he knows what I said is true. Coach Chow and his crew are bringing excitement to Hawaii football. But one player from the great state will not make or break us.

on the other hand, Coach Chow could make a great player from the great state of N Dakota.

    been there done that.

i wuz tinkin doze same thoughts. i dunno. i’m givin da brudda da bestest of vibes. he’s got da size. and he would get da coaching and motivation that could help him get to the next level. hard for a 18 year old to know for himself if he can make the next level, the only way to find out is combat testing.

i figure life owes him the chance. his family got ruined by nature recently. hard times. he definitely would be desreving of a opportunity in life.

and since we know Coach Chow went all day way to Minot, da land of the big blow (was there in ’71 in July on a drive across country across the top on Route 2), i have a preference for Minot’s windy prarie. 😀 and wishing da best for their finest big boy.

we cannot go halfway with UH Football. we NEED UH football to be at da top of its game.

its like driving a really nice car. we all benefit from having a beauty in our driveway. and not a piece of krap. we all get habut wit junk. no pride. no feeling of family. no support. and we all end up playing golf. tennis. watching tv. no mo class dat kine. no can. no can.

bhf2 (215) – I’ve been to SD also, back in 2000. If he or any other recruit wants to play at the next level, they need to come under Coach Chow’s wings. He will make sure they have more then a token shot at playing in the NFL.

    Hello

    #205. Steve,

Actually if Warriors switch from 4-3 to 3-4, JMHO that Warriors will still need to recruit at least one more NG since probably only Hanohano & possibly Matagiese could adjust to playing NG since Correa, Samia, Friel are probably better suited to play DEs (as they are all former high school DEs) since returning DEs (Falemalu, Woodard, Yap, Malepeai, Cravens, Dean) just aren’t as big as the past Warrior DEs (Ikaika Alama-Francis, Melila Purcell, Amani Purcell, Reynolds Fruean) that last time Warriors lined up in 3-4 in 2006 under DC Jerry Glanville.

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask you to please come out if you have time tomorrow and support PIAA at the PIAA Madden Tournament at The Villa at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Just by coming out and having lunch would be great. If you can play, play – come early, chance to win $500. Or bid to play with one of the guys, Highest bid was on Kealoha Pilares!(Go Damien!), still a chance to bid on other players at the event. Manuwai, Brennan, Estes, Satele, Lauvao, Grice-Mullins, Meatoga, Paredes, Owens – all helping us out.

Watch the cool video that was made for us – voice courtesy of ESPN 1420, video by Waddalife. http://www.pacificathleticalliance.com Hope to see you there! Doris

Tyler Taumua from Farrington is a pretty impressive running back himself. He hits the hole really quick and has decent speed. I think he would be a great college recruit next year.

Kapakahi – Maybe Chow is thinking of using smaller, faster, DL’s, just like the military academy’s use. Air Force and Navy, have done quite well, with smaller DL’s.

Printers use a different mix of dyes–cyan-, magenta, etc. These colors combined work best in their process. diablo 3 gold

It is a popularity contest until the last couple of weeks. There is no chemistry with Max and Hope….un-like last season with Kristie…The final couples will be Derek and Ricki, JR and Karina and maybe Max and Hope.diablo 3 gold
