Op season
Quarterback Taylor Graham and offensive lineman Kody Afusia are candidates for offseason operations. Both endured arm injuries the second half of the season.
Graham started the first three games before suffering a dislocation to his left (non-throwing) shoulder. Afusia, who was considered to be the Rainbow Warriors’ top o-lineman this past season, played through a variety of injuries.
If they opt for operations, it is not known if it will have any impact on their participation in spring training. In recent years, the 15 practices of spring training were split into two periods — before and after spring break. The tentative plans are for UH to conduct all 15 practices in four weeks after spring break this year. UH-Manoa’s spring break is March 24-28.

Receiver Allen Sampson said he is on track to earn a bachelor’s degree in May. He said he then plans to transfer to a school that offers his field (sports psychology) with the intent of playing two more years, if medically possible.
During his UH career, Sampson has played in 20 games — but none in the past two seasons because of injuries. He suffered a torn ACL in the seventh game of the 2011 season. He sat out the 2012 season after suffering a second ACL injury. He did not play in 2013 because of a torn hamstring.
First!
Good morning, gang!
Happy birthday, Allen Sampson!
Hope Taylor & Kody have successful surgeries & get back to playing in the spring.
GO WAHINE!!!
GO BOWS! MBB plays tonight at NAU!
Top5 while Kruzing in Kona
…..and Beat BYU Gunfunnit!!!!!!
Good Morning Hawaii from frigid Colorado!!! Nice win by the Wahine! Let’s keep it up ladies! Wishing good health to those recovering this off-season and much luck to Allen. College degree comes first!
Heal stretch and get healthy
Someone raised a point yesterday, which would be an interesting discussion. Utah State’s Chuckie Keeton has been compared to Russell Wilson. If Keeton, who is coming off knee surgery, earns a degree this spring or summer, would he consider transferring — a la Wilson — to a bigger program for his senior season?
Today’s loyalty test focuses on Laie: UH or BYU volleyball?
…..anyone else getting hip tonight at the Blaisdell?
Wish I knew we were hosting before committing to concert.
…….and no forget, Let’s Go Bows!
I wish Taylor would have opted for surgery during the season verse now and miss part of Spring practice. He needs the reps. Can’t believe the shoulder got worst since the injury.
Of course I’m going to cheer the Wahine tonight!! GO WAHINE!!!!
Afusia was one of the many on hand at the SSC cheering the Wahine last night and doing his signature belly roll dance during timeouts
Game Day?
Aloha all. And for my man 3 prong, and other Linfield alum and/or supporters, here is a link to their play-off came today. Squad is 10 local boys strong: http://www.day.to/watch/live/streaming/online/free/en-vivo/1/97690/december-7-2013/ncaa-college-football-linfield-vs-uw-whitewater.html
boo: Big challenge for Cats today facing Wisconsin Whitewater 4x national champion in their house. Game time temp 10 degrees with a high of 13 expected “if the wind doesnt blow”. Go Cats!
Got you 3 prong! So, lets re-phrase that to say, ” lets go really cold-ass cats”, a tub of Henry Weinhards will be waiting for you. Ahh–I remembered what all the Linfield boys like to drink back in the day??! Hey, whatever happened to Kelly Sur…really good athlete in a couple of sports.
Good morning everybody!
Geeevvmm Wahine!
6. I doubt Keeton transfers. Russell Wilson didn’t want to transfer. His coach made a huge mistake by naming him the back up QB because he was playing baseball in the off season. That QB was Glennon who is now the starting QB for the Bucs so I guess they still had a good QB.
14, Kelly Sur….coached his son Jacob during his baseball days.
Good morning Tsaikos!
Best wishes to all those who will undergo off-season surgeries and rehabs.
Best wishes to Mr. Sampson.
GO BOWS!
GO WAHINE! Beat BYWho!!!
It’s to bad Sampson couldn’t stay healthy I really wanted to see him do well here at UH but that’s football I guess. Best wishes to Sampson.
I don’t think Keeton needs to transfer. He is making enough of a name for himself at Utah St. I am pretty sure people are noticing. It is the success of Russel Wilson in the NFL that is making people pay attention to QBs like Keeton.
I guess nobody likes SMU football. There isn’t anyone in the stands. I think there are some bodies in the student section. But other than that . . . not a soul.
suppa sunny morning 808, tsaikette’s, tsaiko’s, rainbow wahine’s and warriors… hello how you?
congrats to lady warriors, one down one to go, do this wahines
Kelly Sur: AD @ Radford High
Any Birdies out there? On another blog there’s a rumor about some momentous opportunity for UH coming up, possibly in the next week?
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Speedy recovery to Taylor and Kody.
GO WAHINE!
#8 Lucky you 3-Prong. Wish TOP were coming to the Big Isle instead. Love their horn/sax arrangements. Can’t see paying round trip air fare to Oahu just to see the concert though. And unfortunately, contrary to the name of the song, “I’m Not a Young Man” anymore.
It would be a big win if SMU can pull it off and would probably make them bowl eligible.
Agreed, that’s one empty stadium at SMU. Central Florida to play in a BCS bowl game at 11-1.
Looked it up this is what chow said when he hired Thom Kaumyer
“We’re very fortunate to add Thom to the staff,” Chow said. “He is a tremendous defensive mind and will be a great tutor to our younger defensive coaches. He’s a proven winner and his NFL experience will be a great asset.”
Good morning everyone!
Speedy recovery for any receiving operations soon!

Interesting read – Wyoming coaching candidates:

After taking a 17-0 first quarter lead, Cats end up falling 17-28 to the #1 ranked defense.
Allen Sampson…one of the early trailblazers of the Florida pipeline. Thanks for being a Warrior…
Super cold this week in the Bay Area. Miss the tropics.
Looking forward to more of Kirkwood over the next few years, as I think he’s definitely a game changer…
Boise State: The Idaho Statesman has identified the Broncos’ top three targets as Washington defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, Arkansas State head coach Bryan Harsin and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. All three have significant Boise ties.
… and where’s Dan Hawkins?
#37
wow, chow is not on the short list!
Dang nabbit 3-prong..I’m still going to tip back some green bottles and toast the boys great season!
Peterson will go the same route as Hawkins. Head to a bigger school, never hear of him again.
A Football Life~”The Great Wall of Dallas” honoring the most dominant offensive in the NFL history. Former Rainbow Mark Tuinei is a part of this on now on channel 204 Oceanic.
Dan Hawkins proved with his head coaching stint after Boise that it was NOT him behind all of their success.
Inyoface . . . I disagree. We’ll just have to see.
honolulu marathon tomorrow, road closures and limited access to kapiolani park and diamond head in the a.m.
Taylor Graham looks like he has a bad left knee too. Hope he will ready to compete in the spring.
#40
problem with hawkins, he didn’t have peterson at colorado. thought that was obvious.
another obvious point: peterson will have peterson at uw.
#45
left knee is bad and the right knee is not so good.
Boo: Mahalo for that. Guess even after the Badgers scoop up the cream, still get plenny left ova size and speed.
Emily Hartong now in second place for the Senior Class Award.
Vote for Emily! Let’s help her to win this award!

Good luck coach Peterson. m/**
with Graham undergoing surgery again, his effectiveness as a QB may be over and hope that Chow considers this option and starts planning for who will be #1 and #2 to open Spring training.
if Tuileta really conditions and keeps up his grades from now through early Spring, I can see him as a threat to be #1 coming out of Spring ball – I would not be adverse to having a young, true Freshman start for the Rainbow Warriors. After all, how many “true Freshman” have started and kicked UH butts in the past 2 years?
of course, this still hinges on him signing with UH on NLOI day
and now, many thanks to MasaBoy who reconfigured our computer so when I open the internet it goes directly to the Hawaii Warrior Beat – hip, hip, hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this old, craggy man with limited brain power is very grateful to #1 son, our Crown Prince, who happens to be our only son! Yes!!!!!!!!
must be getting colder as I see a certain neighbor with a shirt in the early morning hours
51.. I think it’s the non-throwing shoulder. He should be fine physically once he’s ready.
Spring practices will be interesting. If TG has surgery and isn’t ready by spring ball. Woosley will get all the reps. Which isn’t a bad thing.
Both TG and Woosley will be entering their 3rd year in Chows offense so we should see improvements and further expansion of play book. The big thing for both QBs is to settle down and make good decisions with the ball. With the running game looking promising with a fully healthy Iosefa and upgraded OLine, they just have to make the easy throws and avoid forcing throws.
I think we can put to rest the ESPN/SEC notion that SEC defenses as most feared, and would shut down anybody.
Shout ou to the fellow blogger whose wife is a stewArdess at Hawaiian. Talked Rainbow sports with herand she said you are a fanatic too.
A-house – Tuileta may not play Spring Ball since he’ll be playing vb. Conversely, he’ll miss fall camp for vb.
If TG or Chow knew surgery was needed why did they wait until now to decide? Was it to hold on to TG during the season for TG ‘s Hail Mary passes? If he had the surgery during the season, he would be ready for spring season.
Baylor wins Big 12 title, 30-10 over Texas.
yee-haw – made my year ….

#56 yup that’s me
101 points in the MWC…. errrrr SEC championship game.
I thought I was a fan! You guys sound chronic too! hehe
Nice lady your wife.
I train her well
58. I’m thinking the surgery recovery time is not too bad.
Oh yes she is a nice lady
Tre Mason has 290yards rushing for Auburn. What happened to Mizzou’s much hyped DLine?
Will be fun to listen to the talking faces at ESPN spin this game… 101 points in SEC Championship will be praised as an all time great game…. Meanwhile if the MWC goes 100+points, ESPN will rip the teams for having horrible defenses.
#51, 57
will tuileta leave school early like brs? if so, i don’t think he’ll be joining the vb team since the season starts next month (1st game jan 2).
if he isn’t leaving school early, then for sure he won’t be taking part in spring ball. (not eligible)
vb is not a reason to miss fall camp, mens volleyball does not conflict with football, that would be women’s volleyball.
tuileta will be red shirted for football, unless he’s another colt brennen.
notre dame is going to the pinstripe bowl at yankee stadium.
#55
by anybody they mean georgia state, alabama state, and austin peay.
Gobows – I meant he would miss vb fall camp.
Way to go Basketbows!
Man that 7 foot point guard can move. Chow needs to suit him up and use him in the redzone.
Btw, can anyone explain why the BYU fans think they’re from Florida? What’s with the gator chop? I thought they were kitty cats.
SEC>MWC. Plain and simple. As a matter of fact, SEC>(INSERT CONFERENCE HERE). Hawai’i would barely score any points against SEC defenses. Athletes far far superior, especially in the trenches.
So glad I could watch the BasketBows at NAU tonight. Bunch of people from Hawaii, Phoenix, in town & the students of the HAPA Hawaiian Club were there. Met Mike Thomas’ parents & Brandon Jawato had family there, too.
I like those green jerseys. Play was neck & neck through the 1st half. 3-point shooters on both teams looked good.
Driving home in the snow was slow, but here I am. Ready to watch the Wahine VB play BYU.
GO WAHINE!!!
#75
wow, did you come up with that conclusion all by your lonesome?
if kentucky had the balls to come to aloha stadium, hawaii would score 50+ and the cats would vow never to come back again. michigan state, northwestern, purdue they all learned the hard way. even alabama lost at aloha.
stop fooling yourself, every bcs conference has its bottom feeding cupcakes.
everybody knows sec teams are afraid to leave their region. try travel 5 time zones and play a game.
Anybody else rooting for Utah St solely based on that you hate Fresno St?
I hate this home field advantage in a championship game, but it is the only way to fill a stadium. MW fan bases don’t travel well at all.
The only game where the visiting fans show up is when Hawaii travels to Las Vegas (for obvious reasons). If Sam Boyd stadium wasn’t such a dump, I’d be in favor of the MWC Champ game in Las Vegas.
Its interesting to juxtapose Notre Dame and Stanford. While ND seems to be stuck in neutral or even perhaps reverting to its former self, Stanford appears by on sustained rise: in the last 5 years 55-12, versus ND of 43-22.
If you read all the ND blogs and fan sites, much of the blame is attributed to their stringent admission standards, however Stanford has an even more elevated admission requirement, and seems to have no problem attracting upper margin talent and brains. Coaching also seems clearly superior in Stanford’s favor the last 5 years…..Cardinal are for real.
Utah St better score this drive or this game is over
Great throw by USU QB on the fade. Just beautiful ball.
79. I think Shaw’s staff does an incredible job of identifying the best talent that can qualify. I have no stats, but based on population, I think California
And that’s the ball game…. Momentum crushing interception. Congrats to Fresno on the MW Trophy and for choking last week and losing the conference millions in bowl revenue.
FUHA…actually just did a precursory count of their 2013, 100 man roster. I was actually surprised, although California leads the count, it was at only 28–I also thought for sure it would have much more cali guys. It really is a national roster with 13 players from Texas, and plenty of representation from Georgia, AZ, and the NW.
Oh my… Reverse psychology is amazing
83… Don’t forget… UH is starting to rack up Florida and east seaboard guys too. It makes up for Pac12 teams taking away the top local boys. Which by the way UH is keeping a higher % of top locals under this staff.
Just a matter of time before the recruiting will start paying dividends. Expecting one recruiting class to make an immediate impact isn’t realistic, otherwise Ole Miss would be in the Title game. Their recruiting class was the amazing, but they won the same number of games as last year.
FUHA–I will say this, the year had been a disaster on several different levels, but the recruiting seems on an obvious upswing, with literally a national map. Biggest thing, aside from talent during the season, is the competition it provides in practice, and getting much better looks of opposing teams. I remain hopeful…
fotu and standhardinger combined for 12 points and they still won by 10, 76-66 at northern arizona. that would have been a 20 point loss last year.
Don’t know why, but kind of happy that OSU lost today.
wahine drop 1st set 21-25
Looks like Wahine are being outplayed. BYU looks hungrier. If that does not change this is going to be the exit.
Not looking good. Can they turn it around?
Good luck to Sampson and thanks for being a Warrior.
If they don’t play better they might go down in three sets. LETS GO WAHINE! Pick it up!
Wyoming will announce FCS North Dakota State’s Craig Bohl the new head coach on Sunday. NDSU (12-0) are in the playoffs and just beat Furman today.
D1:lee oscar on harmonica!
Boise State announced Dirk koetter (Atlanta Falcons OC), Justin Wilcox (Washington DC) and Bryan Harsin (Arkansas State HC) will be interviewing for the vacancy.
Sheesh, how many times will Fresno State give a chance to Utah State to steal the win.
FUHA is Chow’s Cheerleader….smh
Fresno State is the 2013 MWC champs.
Florida is pulling away. Vote for Emily Hartong

Washington: The Idaho Statesman reports that Boise State running backs coach / recruiting coordinator Keith Bhonopha will join the Washington staff.
I wonder — if we compare what we are getting from the “east coast” to losing top “local” talent to the mainland — is it a plus or minus?
while several top local talent have verbally committed to UH – how many will actually sign in February 2014? Kapoi already took off to Wisconson
while recruiting local boys has improved and more are returning after their trip to the mainland – what impact will this have on offensive and defensive play calling by the coaching staff? will it negate itself – self destruct?
jus wondering!
if former UH players who are now in the coaching profession had a “bad experience” while at UH — will they be interested in applying for a coaching position? I don’t think so.
many names have been tossed around , but none have returned to be a coach – will this be a factor in applying for a position?
all for the love of the islands and its people
And DC Thom Kaumeyer is still around…..doesn’t look like Chow will part ways w/ him…..guess we’re stuck w/ him in ’14
d1: false lee oscar signting. Hehe

Tower of Power time!
Every time we lose in the NCAA regionals, we get out blocked badly. It wasn’t even competitive tonight. Very disappointing. Wahine didn’t show up with their A game. BYU kept setting on the left side and the Wahine couldn’t block them and if they did, the ball would go out of bounds.
You’ve got to funkify!!!!!
103. A-House:

many names have been tossed around , but none have returned to be a coach –
Who you talking about, and who was tossing their names about?
Reports had Dirk Koetter as Jim Donovan’s favored choice to replace Mack. He did get overruled due to some drama that Koetter had in previous coaching stints.
Good morning!
Nice slate of NFL games today…. Freakin blizzard in Philly. Beautiful football weather!
103. I think it depends on why the experience wasn’t good… If it was due to personality conflicts with coaches, then that shouldn’t be an issue because the staff is completely different. If was due to facilities, faculty, or culture, then former players won’t apply for coaching spots.
112. RE: Koetter. Good coach, but the off the field stuff will follow him around. That being said, its not like JJ had issues too, but his were mainly while he was at UH.
Other reports from people close to a selection committee member also say that the committee’s majority “vote” was for Koetter and the lone vote for Chow came from rockne freitas. The committee was satisifed with Koetter’s response when asked about the situations with his former school.
So why have a committe in the first place?
Wow… that opening kickoff was pretty funny in Philly… there’s a couple inches of snow on the ground and Stafford’s 1st pass looked like a helicopter and fumbled snap on 2nd play.
I hope everybody put money on the under…
not sure how replay booth is going to be able to confirm anything on sideline replays…
By the looks of it… Phily might get 8 inches of snow by the end of the game.
You know the weather is bad when Ed Hochuli is bundled up…
Will be interesting to see how Chip Kelly adjust his offense. Pretty clear his horizontal plays aren’t going to be very effective because nobody can make plant and cut upfield.
Probably see more straight forward runs and a pretty boring game since throwing the ball will be a serious challenge.
