Numbers game
Head coach Norm Chow is using the next few days to craft the roster for training camp, which opens Aug. 1.
The NCAA caps training-camp rosters at 105 players. Chow said he would like to have 102 players in camp. He said he will add eight to 10 more players on Aug. 22, the first day of UH’s fall semester, when rosters are permitted to expand.
The tentative roster includes wide receiver Pi‘i Minns, who also is a member of the UH basketball team.
The Warriors still have a couple of scholarships available.
* * * * *
It’s always a good thing for a player to have his picture in the bio section. There’s a nice picture of former UH defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga, although on the Bengals’ roster his first name is misspelled “Vaughan.”
* * * * *
Former UH offensive lineman Austin Hansen should learn soon whether he will be invited to the Philadelphia Eagles’ upcoming OTA. Hansen had a tryout at the Eagles’ rookie mini-camp this past weekend.

I checked out the Orlando Sentinel’s College Football Countdown and they had Fresno State at 109 out of 120 teams. With first-year head coach Tim DeRuyter, who has proven to change the defense in one year with his base 3-4 defense, it would seem that they might be a surprise this season even tho they lost some keys players on that side of the ball. They return Derek Carr and Robbie Rouse on offense who are capable of putting up some sick numbers. The Warriors might be in for a fight considering they play them on the Bulldog’s turf. Should be one of the more interesting games this season as two first-year head coaches faceoff.
So far, the teams the Warriors will face this season that are outside of the top 100 are:
New Mexico (120) Home
UNLV (118) Home
Fresno State (109) Away
Colorado State (105) Away
Okay, I voted. Seems Stephanie Ricketts has a substantial lead.
Today is the last day to vote for Steph. So, VOTE!
Shoko:
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Chickens before hatchings . . .
ST:
Saw your son practicing twirling in your driveway on Friday. Is he entered in the contest this coming weekend at the PCC?
A-House:
He was in the championships this past weekend.
ST:
Sorry, I thought the TV guy said this coming weekend when they were showing some of the performers practicing their routines.
ahouse…twirling???
it is a more manly sport that young tsai is proficient at, the samoan fire knife dance using the nifo’oti is definitely not twirling as using a baton.

Eh – I see the HSA headline, “New Brew“. What?!? 😯 😯 😯
I dash over to the mirror. Okay, it immediately cracks, shatters. Seen/done that before! 🙄 But everyone I ask says it’s the same ol’ brew….. 😀 🙄 😆
Brew…
Maybe you woke up Chinese? I saw the ad. It said.. New Brew!… then it went on to say.. “Looks same, smells same, tastes same, but now even cheaper!”
In other news… the Big West board of directors is meeting in LA today. It should interesting to see whether Boise State gets an invitation to join the conference. Last week the Idaho Statesman reported that the directors were planning to have a general discussion about Big West expansion but no specific proposals were on the table. That could have changed in the past few days.
Hmm, isn’t that always the case tho? Whenever they have a board meeting, expansion is always a topic thats on the list.
Board president: Okay, next on the list is expansion. What say you?
Board of Directors: Nay…nay…nay…nay….nay etc..
Board President: Okay, it’s unanimous. Next on the list is where to have lunch.
Board of Directors: Hooters! Hooters! Hooters!! 😉
Why are Mondays so long? They are worst than Fridays!
Went to vote for Stephan but the voting page is blank.
redzone, the voting booth is open and we need all the help we can get. Steph lost a little, but every vote counts.
Pu’u-Robinson texted this morning. He said he isn’t on the team yet, but he hopes to meet with the UH coaches today and tomorrow.
If all goes well, he should be a Warrior.
Great paintings! That is the kind of info that are meant to be shared across the net. Disgrace on Google for no longer positioning this put up higher! Come on over and discuss with my website . Thanks =)
Okay cast my vote for Steph via computer. I tried earlier with my Ipad and all it showed was a blank page.
I voted on da way to work this am on da bus even.
Go Steph!

ST:
Do you see any more “return to home” football players in the next 2 or 3 months?
Last one is from Maui.
al:
you read right – “twirling” cause that’s excactly what the knife dancers do – twirl the whatever (nifo’oti) or swing it.
A-House
Not-return-to-home players.
But I know UH has been contacted by two players who are transferring from BCS schools.
mannnnn #40 is a teasah.
@40,
what positions? Any chance of them playing this year?
I think one can play this year. Not sure about the other.
UH is checking both out this week.
UH is holding two scholarships for them.
is one of the two kapua sai? he’d be eligible for this year…
Football recruiting is in good hands . . . Anyone know how the women’s basketball recruiting is going? Haven’t seen or heard too much since the new coach was announced.
#45 If the older Sai does his class work he can play this year.
St stop being a tease!!
I think ST is referring to 2 non-homegrown players (I.e., not Kiha Sai) from BCS schools. If that’s the case, the more the merrier . . .
Correction – I meant the older.
The older Sai, Kapua.
Speaking of numbers!?……weya everybody today?? good night folks.
Good evening!
Two more transfers.
Interesting. Must be good ones if scholarships are being held for them.
Curiouser, and curiouser… Who might be those potential transfers…
thanks shadow. overlooked that.
even more interesting… to see non-hawaii boys looking to transfer here.
It truly is a numbers game…..where “holding” a football scholarship probably more accurately translates to “freeing up” a football scholarship from a now former player.
It’s just the reality of roster changes under a new coaching staff. Happened with JJ then Mack, and now happening with Chow too.
Some players have left and will leave the team……while new players have and will join the team.
The two guys are not Sai or Robinson. It’s two from BCS schools who contacted several schools, including UH. The coaches are following up. UH always had a few scholarships. Either they go to transfers or walkons.
Thanks for the clarification Mr. Tsai.
kinda took a refresher on who will be joining da warriors for the fall and you don’t need to say “where’s the beef” cause “da warriors’ get beef”. most noticeable is that the o line is going to get a huge boost.
Steph is down to 29.7 %.
Miss California is at 20.5 %.
Please tell your friends / family to vote.
ahouse…i am sure that any samoan fire knife dancer would be pretty upset with you if you described their masculine art form as twirling as one does a baton or their hair.
VOTE! We are losing ground

Voted, Tom!

Last time?
Was Abe Markowitz a senior or does he fall into the instant transfer category?
Fifteen USC players (not just Matt Barkley) will be building at least four houses in an area 20 miles from the capital of Haiti. Wonder if they majored in carpentry…
Nice article about USC’s trip…
http://usc.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1364710
Most of them hafta get yellow fever shots…
but not Matt Barkley, as he got one last year on a trip to Nigeria
along with Kyle Negrete.
So I guess the kids or their parents pay for them as football
players cannot accept free plane rides, etc, right?
looks like the voting stops at 12 midnight, but not sure although the deadline is today. We need help to keep Steph at the top. Thanks.

#7 idk? Soon I hope….
Hopfeully at least one of the two players who are contacting UH is a QB.
Remember this: UH 34, Colorado 17 as
Chinese/Hawaiian QB Bryant Moniz scores 4 TDs …
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQlzu8Zz7zQ&feature=related
Any news on this amazing qb ???
good move by usc to publicize the haiti trip for Barkley. this should help him get into the senior class award for football this season.
The more awards and publicity for Barkley, the better.
Like Heisman winner Ty Detmer, they may think they are better than lowly UH…
And then—Bam! Oh how pride can fall.

When I voted around 1730, I think Stephanie had a little under 30% and the next closest was around 21.5%… as far as I can recall. She came out of nowhere…wasn’t Ariotta (sp.?) or the Alabama gal.
ralph, i hope the fsu president get back up cause he going need um. fsu needs money to keep up with uf.

Rams quotes on Aaron Brown
http://www.stlouisrams.com/news-and-events/article-1/Rookie-Profile-LB-Aaron-Brown/015cd0f8-db62-40a2-b609-8f44e4f4cfa4
“He’s an explosive player, two year starter there at Hawaii. He was a J.C. guy, Saddleback Junior College, very explosive. He’s a little over six feet, 235 pounds. He runs well, tackles well, tough guy. I mean, real tough guy. That’s the kind of guy that you think has a chance to fill in at a linebacker spot. Worst case scenario where we’re picking, he sounds like a premier special teams fit.” – Coach Jeff Fisher on Brown.
“He’s a tough guy, very urgent, very good as a special teamer, looks like a core special teamer. Our numbers at linebacker were down so he’s going to add depth and we’ll go from there.” – GM Les Snead
