No interruptions

For the first time in three years, the Rainbow Warriors are making an easy transition into their third week of spring training.

In 2012 and 2013 β€” Norm Chow’s first two springs as head coach β€” the Warriors practiced for two weeks, took a week off for spring break, then resumed for three weeks of workouts. The break proved to be troublesome as the players struggled to regain their groove immediately.

By playing through without a break, the Warriors are trying to maintain the pace set this offseason.

The Warriors’ eighth practice is this morning.

The Warriors are seeking volunteers to assist video coordinator Dory Kong this coming football season. If you wish to help, please call (808) 956-9476.

Sweep, sweep, sweep. The dust pan was busy and full.

  10. Warrior Dave April 14, 2014 8:55 am

Congrats to the coaching staff for finally realizing that the mid session break did more harm than good and made changes. I can see trying to rest the body along the way but when you are learning a new system or style, consistent reps are best.

I think staying in Manoa for all of Spring helps.

  25. Turfwar April 14, 2014 10:30 am

Definitely think he holds the most promise of all the brothers. Good luck to Fehoko.

  30. hwnstyll April 14, 2014 11:00 am

Do we have a spring fling location?

  31. gobows April 14, 2014 11:02 am

Remember…couple years ago the fehoko kid that left texas tech wanted to attend UH’s pro day at sdsu, and was denied entry. Vili then posted a fb rant that his kids will never go play for norm chow.

  32. kaimiloa April 14, 2014 11:22 am

    31. Vili is irrational. His kid never attended UH but wanted to attend the Pro Day. Only former players can attend. Kid shows up without an invite and then Vili gets pissed at UH. Why didn’t he attend Tech’s Pro Day? Hmmm

Good luck to the latest son. I hope he takes full advantage of the education he is being offered.

  33. HALEAKALA April 14, 2014 12:10 pm

Boola: Thanks for throwing out a new word – syncopation. I had to look it up.

  34. boolakanaka April 14, 2014 12:13 pm

Syncopation, that’s what Gary Allen, Ralph Cherry and Cherry Owens use to do….

  35. al April 14, 2014 12:21 pm

    hoping we land this fehoko…

#18 Al per Salt Lake Tribune:
If everything comes together, this season could mark the football rebirth of Fehoko, who arrived on campus as a heralded four-star recruit and All-American, but struggled to adjust to the speed and power of the college game. His play has been uneven for two seasons, but he still has a confidence that never left. He vows to lead a linebacker group that is a question mark after it under performed in 2012.

“We’re going to be better this season, and I’m going to be better this season,” Fehoko said. “I knew that I had to make improvements. College football punched me in the mouth. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I came out of high school. I’ve just tried to do anything that I could to make myself a better player.”
Sam was supposed to be a senior at TT last season but left the program in 2011, I believe he is the player who wanted in on UH pro day. I guess if a player leaves TT unexpectedly, chances are they won’t offer a pro day opportunity.

MBB … Junior college guard commits to UH

The Hawaii men’s basketball team received a commitment just before the start of the spring signing period in Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College guard Roderick Bobbitt.

The 6-foot-3 Bobbitt averaged 15.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists and shot 47 percent for a team that went 34-3 and finished runner-up in the NJCAA national tournament. The sophomore from Oakland, Calif., was named a second-team all-region player despite breaking an arm at the start of the NJCAA playoffs. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

He committed shortly after visiting the Manoa campus over the weekend.

“It’s a nice place and I could see myself there the next two years,” Bobbitt said in a phone interview with the Star-Advertiser.

Other teams recruiting him were Saint Mary’s, Oklahoma and Missouri.

    I can’t believe people publish these lies… 24 sacks my #$%

    According to Scout…

Fehoko will be a four year starter at Farrington next fall and is coming off a junior season where he racked up 103 tackles, 24 sacks and forced 12 fumbles. He’ll make a return visit to the NIKE Camp in Oakland in May with hopes of locking in an invite for The Opening.

Mahalo Boola for all your instinctive long comments. We could make your comments into a book ….just kidding you. That’s how we roll as you know from Aiea/Halawa. I’m really looking forward to the football season since softball and baseball are having a down year. I hope Coach Coolen has some pitchers coming in next year.

  48. oldtimer808 April 14, 2014 4:15 pm

Mahalo ST for your coverage of the spring practice.
