Next phase
Today is the first day of UH’s fall semester, which means the football roster is allowed to expand. None of the additions was allowed to participate in today’s two-hour practice. There’s a waiting period while they attend orientation sessions and undergo physical examinations.
From today’s practice:
• It was announced that starting Wednesday, practices will be closed to everyone but the players’ immediate family members and local media.
• The Warriors will have a closed practice Thursday at Aloha Stadium. It runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Former UH wideout Jason Rivers attended the early part of today’s practice. Rivers left to take a TB test. He will serve as student manager this season.
• Linebacker Aaron Brown still remains sidelined because of a sprained right ankle. He suffered the injured a few days before training camp and has not practiced since then. There is growing concern because Brown is a considered a “playmaker” who has several specific roles in two of the defensive packages.
• Left wideout Rodney Bradley, who underwent surgery last October to repair two leg fractures, was declared physically fit. Now, it appears, he is back to form in all aspects. He ran precise routes today, repeatedly cutting away from tight coverage to make catches. Next up: What to do about backup Darius Bright.
• Backup offensive lineman Kainoa LaCount again was working with the first unit at right tackle. Laupepa Letuli is still the starter there, but the trainers are being cautious because of his recent back spasms.
Wow, we don’t start until Sept 7 at NYU.
I guess you are making up for all all the days missed K-12.
What is up with Colt wearing #4?

Good morning all…
Garret,
Hope you have a great business trip this week and
looking forward to your updates.
I might have some room in my car to go from NYC to West Point for the 9/11 game. Anybody need?

Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Top Twenny!
Loa ~ Rajah dat. His older braddah played for Damien. Hard to beat his 5 TD performance, but he get plenny chances with da Da Mules running more this season.
I hope Willism’s son plays for UH.
William
Nothing but the sound of crickets in Utah so far today.
Good morning!!!
Me think BC is full of himself. Is this guy ever wrong ?
#25…you beat me to it. Caller had an opinion and instead of discussing, BC spent more time just shutting it down.
Good morning Tsaikos…hope all is well….
Nick Jezierny sports writer for the Idaho Statesman Tweets,
“WAC expecting to make an announcement later this week regarding a WAC Network that will show three Idaho football games this season.”
bb/Last Call….I missed BC this morning…what happened???
#29-caller brought up concerns about how recruiting would be affected by all of the changes going on. Saying that we might not get the same type of recruits…Caller also brought up Masoli. BC in his “i am right you are wrong tone” pretty much said recruiting isn’t really going to be affected and Masoli is not good enough (with his skillset) to play for UH.
What got to me was BC’s tone of voice. The caller wasn’t trying to be confrontational, he was just sharing an opinion and BC’s tone was not cool to a caller that was just bringing up a legitimate topic and concern.
nyuh…numbers 15 and 5 were already taken. #4 is colt’s high school/pop warner number and that of his idol, brett favre. so took that number with the raiders.
Sorry, no amphibious capabilities on my Toyota, or else I would cruise up the Hudson River.
…and then there are callers on BC, Artie’s Friday show, and the Animals that can’t seem to shut up and just kiss up to the host at the time.
I always wondered if 1420 has shills.
Stephen tweets that Hawaii closing practices to all except media/family
…maybe they can make access to practice a perk for Na Koa/AKA membership.
I really think they need to hold the next two weeks of practice at the stadium, close it to everyone. Work on some plays we haven’t seen before.
Good Morning All!! School is in….let the games begin!!!!
Pomai,
….buses cost money. School started; they gotta study (or at least, that’s the story).
ne-Vaah-da Gazette Journal site has a poll:
57% respond $0.00 😆
Speaking of Reno…
Maybe everyone in Hawaii should stick to the ne-VAH-duh pronunciation just to bug the Ne-VAD-ens 😆
(especially until they stop saying Ha-na-lulu 👿 )
D1,
I would say its alot higher than that considering all the cutbacks Ne-vah-dah is experiencing. The question is, who left first? Fresno or Nevada? When it comes to litigation, UNR’s legal counsel is invites contention.
Those numbers seem awfully low… are prices that high?
But what I like is this sentence..
Oops… sorry.. those quotes were from the SMU link that NYUH posted earlier…
GOOD MORNING TSAIKOS EVERYWHERE!
Countdown time…
10 days and counting!!

(I am a leaf on the wind…)
NYUH- pls pick me up on Kauai too!
Football is GETTING CLOSER!!!
Woohoo!
RoyGBivs – good to see you!!!
Shoko,
Really though, if faced with the same question in Hawaii, I can’t imagine the results would be much different. 🙁

D1,
Very true. When it comes to cutbacks and deficits, sports always comes under scrutiny.
OFFSPORTS TOPIC BUT YOU’LL SAVE SOME MONEY!!
BACK TO THE FUTURE: Please come visit the Windward Ahupua`a Alliance’s information booth on THURSDAY, AUGUST 26, between 9 am & 1:30 pm on the Fort Street Mall between King & Hotel Streets in downtown Honolulu. We’ll be displaying our Usual Stuff, but our principal focus will be WAA’s PLant A Native Tree Campaign and what we’ll be doing on Sunday afternoon, October 10, 3020, when we take part in 350.org’s Global Work Party.
We’ll also have more information about the fundraiser at Murphy’s on September 7.
Thanks to the Blue Planet Foundation, we’ll also be passing out free CFL bulbs so bring along an energy-wasting incandescent bulb from home or the office to start saving money!! And, of course, to help reduce our dependency on fossil fuels.
BACK TO SPORTS
It’s cute that the freshmen thought they could get parking today.
They’re not in high school anymore.
I’m glad that my game tickets for both Army and Colorado matches arrived in the mail today!
And, like the norm for ordering road tickets through the visitors’ institution, cruddy seats galore. But alas, that is something I’ve come to expect, so no biggie here.
NYUH ~ Thanks anyway. Transporter room needed an upgrade. Maybe Garret can help.
Enjoy the game!
Stephen – thanks for the practice updates
d1:
“speaking of Reno” – did you hear Mrs A-house on Saturday nite – “A-Houses will never go back to Reno”.
MIH:
Isn’t UH season ticket count greater than 17,000? TCU is celebrating their new record of 17,000?
Sounds like TV broadcasters who “gush” over a mainland college QB throwing for 4,500 yards and 37 TDs in a season – where were they when Colt went over 5,500 yds and 58 TDs?
typical “buy us dis, buy us dat”!!
CRW:
At least you got yours – us, still waiting on UH to get tickets to Panda Travel so they can send out the “package” for the trip!!!!!
Will keep in touch via email.
A-House:
That’s unfortunate regarding your tickets. I was getting a bit worried with mine, especially when my parking pass for the Army game (purchased through Army’s website) arrived before the game tickets. Hopefully your tickets arrive soon!
A-house,
Yup, lud and clear!
Kekoa,
Got the report….GO BG!
Pomai,
You got your wish! (sort of) Thursday night practice at Aloha Stadium is closed. I wonder if it’ll be more significant than just a “this is our home” tour for the new players?
More importantly, will Coach Tomey be there to ensure a sufficient amount of “oohs” and “aahs” for the new scoreboard? Was there this past weekend for HS football and was kinda impressed with the clarity of the picture. Everyone (got a Mouse?) will have to keep in mind that “lip reading” will be very easy to do now! 😯
😳
lud=loud
….hope Aaron Brown heals up this week.
Well should we do the tsaikos pix’s again this season??
I guess practices will be closed to the public until game day, eh? Makes sense as this may be one of our biggest games to kick off the new Warrior Era… with or without the WAC.
Besides, there’s not enough parking on campus now that school has started, anyway.
Aaron Brown must have suffered a pretty bad sprain to be out all this time and still be questionable for a game that’s 10 days away.
Aaron Brown is a big time player! Hope we get him back soon!
hmmm 10 more days until I catch footballs one-handed
Calvin from Kona
Make sure a mouse is not near you. Otherwise, you will hear, “two hands”
BYU holds a lot of the aces. MWC becomes the old WAC if BYU goes independent. Thompson is a good negotiator and strategist. The news of C-USA & MWC at this time to hold a title game is only a ploy to make the MWC position look better and make the 3 WAC teams leaving thinking they are heading to greener pastures. Thompson is a great promoter and sure does help his conference to take advantage of things. C-USA, Tompson will do anything and while proposing to work with C-USA will forgo any relationship to take a school from their conference to join the MWC. He’ll raid your conference cause as a wolf he knows how to act in sheeps clothing very well when at the your gates.
When BYU leaves MWC back to square 2 and when TCU leaves back to square one. Silver lining is for Hawaii to negotiate strongly for the benefit of BYU and in a way ride their coat tails for now. Do everything to help BYU benefit with their plans and indirectly it will help stabalize Hawaii’s athletic future and hopefully position it better as times continues.
Mark my prediction, a leader like Thompson will be the failure of the MWC because he’ll get the same medicine for what he is doing to the WAC. Why because the MWC would of been okay with BYU leaving and the WAC would have benefited a little.
Don’t know if anyone posted this USC you tube flick before
but it is from their spring practice intrasquad scrimmage.
So you can see what UH will possibly see soon.
Check out the muscular pass rusher taking away the football
from the quarterback and nearly rushing for a td.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8Wi9g-KVaw
already almost two million people watched it…
I can’t believe it’s finally back to school for the little ones. I don’t know how the teachers deal with everything. Here in Florida the schools are so under budget the teachers don’t even have teacher aids for the kindergarten and first graders. I can’t believe this year some of the local schools are actually asking for parents to provide toilet paper as school supplies. And what happened to all this money the lottery was going to provide?
Pomai,
56-14 d1shima
MIH,
Aaron Brown worked out mid-week last week, but I think it was for only one day. Don’t want him to re-injure his ankle. It needs time to heal. Hope this time off helps. He said he was getting better, but I think he was just being nice to the “Auntie”.
Pomai-
You bet!!! UH 35 – USC 31 😉
Defensive tackle DaJohn Harris
is the beefy guy who tore the ball away
and tailback Dillon Baxter
is the shifty nifty runner…
for USC.
I predict UH 62 – USC 24
Pomai
UH 38 – USC 24
Has UH asked the fans, the tax payers, the people who supply the money to support UH athletics if they want to leave the WAC or stay ? Of course not you don’t matter .
Not all taxpayers would respond
just as in voter registration…
And of those who would
probably less than half…
So not a true indicator…
Still wish a $5 tax donation on our State tax forms for
UH football would be there…
UH 24 – USC 17
ST, thanks for the update. Very interesting to know Jason Rivers is going to be a student manager. What’s his major?
Wahine finally released their basketball schedule.
http://hawaiiathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=wbball&
CRW- CHEER FOR MEE TOOO!!!
thinking out loud:
If the MWC is on the cusp of “being inside the BCS circle”, why is TCU wanting to leave and go back to C-USA?
What do they know that is pushing them in this direction? Is C-USA closer to the “inside” than MWC with the loss of BYU and Utah? OK, BYU has not yet decided on leaving.
BYU, Utah, and TCU were the constant in being raked in the top 25 nearly all or all of last year. Was another team from C-USA ranked?
IF MWC gains one (BSU) and loses three ( byu, tcu, utah ) who benefits most?
Did someone mention that there will be another “shake up” in the next 2 or 3 weeks? What a way to start the 2010 football season!!!!!
Pomai:
UH 25 USC 22
RedZone:
OK, does this indicate that the season “renewal” applications are in the mail?
A-House I don’t think so. I have been wanting to buy season tickets this year but I only see tickets offered for football and volleyball so far. It it is $60 like last year it will be a bargain. I want to see that shot blocker that coach Dana just picked up.
They host 4 tourneys this year.
IT = If
I don’t want to jinx anyone but it seems like there aren’t as many hammys as in the past.
RedZone:
Did you notice one of the guards that was on last years team is no longer on the team? She is the one that got suspended near the end of last year.
Early video of Colt Brennan has him wearing #3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H30BbaA-BUQ&feature=related
I noticed that Leilani’s name was missing from the roster.
Yes, she a senior last year, I do not recall that she was?
d1:
your #39 – cracks me up!!!
Not surprised tho as only a handful of fans traveled to the Hawaii Bowl last year
Can Nevada take a bus to play Wyoming?
UH vs USC Home opener

Steve/RedZone:
I believe Na Wahine basketball team had only 1 senior last year – at least we saw only 1 that was honored at “senior night”.
If Leilani is gone, maybe the reason that Coach Dana had an extra scholie to give out for 2010.
Next year, Coach will have 5 scholarsips to award. Has she received any commits for 2011? For 2011, the gal from Molokai will play “part-time” as she will be on a VB scholarship. 2012 Coach Dana has 6 scholarsips to award. Yikes, in 2 years, she replaces 11 players of 15.
RedZone, yep, $60 for season ticket was a steal last year. We bought 3 tickets last year and it was $20 less than premium seat charge at Aloha Stadium for one seat.
RedZone/Steve:
Lipinkane (sp) from Europe was the only senior last year. Is her first name Leilani?
POMAI,
21 – 14
With all their penalties and defections and general upheaval, I think USC will have a hard time dealing with our Warriors!!!
A-House:
No, her first name was not Leilani, also, the girl from Molokai will be on a basketball, not a volleyball scholarship. I imagine it must have been grades with Leilani. Dana is a real stickerly about that.
A-House & Red Zone:
Now I remember her name Leilani Galdones, she was from the same area as Keisha Kanekoa.
Pomai:
Are you all using your heart to come up with these scores?
Here is mine – UH 27 USC 24 (winning field goal with 2 secs left) (heart)
UH 27 USC 34 (mind)
hyakuu
Wow, Gigi must like UH defense…
the reason I lopsided UH victory is because
I believe Rolo will shine just like he did when he played.
And our defense, yes, is good, dang good.
Steve:
I think Pomai can only use 1 prediction – ha ha!!!
wonder what d1shima was thinking?
Offense or Defense or?
Always following heart when predicting scores with Warrior football.
Just don’t bet on games.
Where is Homey with his usual 69 – 10 score????
1- Find your Bruddah Iz CD
2- Plug in your headphones

Did UH ever hold teams lately to “zero” points?
I know they did in 2nd halfs…
Gigi:
Not sure what Rivers’ major is.

A-House:

RedZone/Steve:
Lipinkane (sp) from Europe was the only senior last year. Is her first name Leilani?
so this would be dita liepkalne of latvia who was the lone senior this past year.
Ipu Man,
When no mo’ Heisman Winnah on the Oddah team, 56-14.
Wen get, 59-28.
Pomai- I put my guess up last week. Shucks… Now gotta go find it as someone took it. Or guess something else…
Steve- C from K uses two hands- but the other one has a green bottle in it… Bwahahaha!
Liepkalne’s first name is Dita.
And yes Leilani is Galdones who played shooting guard and sometimes point when needed.
al:
your #109 – thank you, thank you for keeping us straight!
was i close phonetically?
Liz, no guess…you know, no?
pomai,
USC over Hawaii 66 to 0.
4 long runs up the gut of 80 yards or longer.
3 screen passes of fifty yards or longer resulting in touchdowns.
2 interception returns by USC for two more touchdowns.
And 3 points on a 50 yard field goal, which the USC kicker kicked on first down in getting some practice time in.
USC reserves enter the game midway through the second quarter.
Kiffins doing the hula before half time.
The USC cheerleaders are mimicking Kiffin. USC fans in attendance laugh.
UH fans start leaving midway through the third quarter with USC ahead 59-0, with some departing fans asking passerby’s if they are interested in taking their season tickets off their hands (I guess in saving their sanities).
A national TV audience are holding their stomachs in from laughing so hard. With most turning the channels to something that’s more watchable.
ESPN preempts the game at the half and shows a rerun of WSOP.
The USC athletic director texts JD if he can get USC out of future contracted games.
The UH coaches up in the box look shocked.
The UH players faces look grim.
The UH band accidentally plays the song “We are the champions” late in the fourth quarter, which gets a big laugh from everyone in the stadium.
A scattering a boos come late in the game when UH attempts a 25 yard field goal that was eventually missed.
Hawaii starters, offense and defense, play the entire game. Although the head coach was seen trying to sub some reserves in.
Fans depart the stadium with heavy hearts.
After the game Coach Mack, in his post game conference, tells the media he thought his players played a great game, says he’s very, very proud of them. A media person let out a smirk. Other local media types with disgust written on their faces also follow with a smirk at hearing the coach describe how his players played.
…And the most important thing is that I hope this motivates the UH coaches, players and team. Very few, here, I bet, would realize what I just did.
roysan thanks for firing up the Warriors.
I posted the last time you predicted this that I will take the 66 points. Maybe you didn’t see it. Let me know what you want to wager.
stretch,
lol. I like you. I think you have a great sense of humor.
ya think coaches and players lurk here?
UH admin does.
Ooooohhhh…Kazz got a Droid…..MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Wait, roysan is betting….I’m all in and I’ll take the 66….
I’ve never known Stretch to kid about $
….or about a wager.
What happened to the LLWS game between Georgia and Ohio?
Listening to the Herd today, Colin Cowherd doesn’t think much of Boise St. and neither TCU. Oh, he thinks they are nice teams and all, but they should never play for the National Championship. They wouldn’t have a chance against Florida, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, and USC and the big boys. He said Boise St.’s schedule is very weak and they are playing about 8 patsies. Unfortunately for Hawaii, we are one of the 8 patsies. But, I never heard him say that Boise St. is not BCS worthy, only that they should not be considered for the National Championship, even if they are undefeated because their schedule is just too weak.
If I was Boise St. and TCU they should get out of the MWC and try to go to the Big 12. Hehe, Hehe!
Ipu Man- I guess what a WANT the score to be 🙂

Re #125, maybe Colin Cowherd would have a different opinion if the BCS had allowed Boise State and TCU to play Alabama and Florida in last year’s BCS bowl games rather than each other. Cowards.
Hey pomai, you and the tsaikos are the consummate fans that the UH athletic department loves to have. If the balloon popped you good folks would find a way in finding another one and putting air in it. This is good. It’s very commendable and I hope it’s drawing attraction from newer folks.
Good afternoon!
#115… What? Oh ye of little faith!
Changing the subject… I posted near the end of yesterday’s blog… a different angle to try to balance opponents’ travel to Hawaii.
While the NCAA has the Hawaii/Alaska Exemption in place for football, I wonder if we can negotiate something with the BCS? They have been more and more generous in their offerings to non-AQ conferences lately. Can we get one more concession from them?
Have the BCS create a separate fund specifically to be used for travel (air, bus, and hotel) to Hawaii (yes, and Alaska). (Meals not included; delays are circumstantial, and thus, will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis). This fund will cover all sports. This will not cover Hawaii’s travels. (If we remain D-1, we gotta pay for something).
For every team that comes to Hawaii, they must submit an itemized report for reimbursement. Don’t know who will operate this fund, but that can be figured out later. Each team/sport will have a maximum number allowed to travel that is eligible for reimbursement.
Any deviation from a set guideline, which results in excess charges, will be paid for by the visiting school. (To avoid later arguments, this agreement will be part of every contract with every school who agrees to come to Hawaii for any athletic event.) Reimbursable funds will be set according to school’s location/region, as well as type of sport team (ie. number of athletes, coaches, trainers, and tutors if necessary).
I’m sure there are other factors to take in, but my dinner is calling, and I’m starving. So, if we negotiate like crazy… what do you guys think?
Finally got the borrowed wifi signal back.
Pomai . . .
30-28, us!
Okay gang…now that we are all in the football spirit….thought you guys might like this one. A friend and occasional blogger sent me this. It’s country music but very emotional and a good look back with some classic moments in football….

Roysan, Lets get you some pom -poms buddy. and Big Hilo Fan , where ever you are.
You guys can be the ulitmate 12 man support on the sidelines.
Anyone know of, or remember Crazy George? Long thinning blonde hair, tom tom drum that roamed the stands of NFL football and NHL hockey?
Roysan could be that guy.
UH needs YOU Roysan
DrDoc was planning to go to the Man Camp, but his boss is taking him to a professional improvement class Tuesday evening and dinner afterwards at 3660 On The Rise. I’ll be in Kane`ohe hosting a political coffee hour.
Meanwhile, I would like to go to the Wahine Clinic Wednesday evening, but I don’t want to go by myself. Is anyone here going? If so, let’s meet up beforehand and go out afterwards. Gurlz nite out. If no one replies, I’ll go by myself.

“The Boys of Fall,” premiering Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 at 2 p.m. EST on ESPN
first game of the season we usually don’t look to good. So we will score only 21 pts, SC- 17 pts. in the 1st half, 0 in the 2nd.
J(J):
don’t be greedy – al, DPK, and I have first divs as we all requested part of the action when prediction was first posted on this blog!!! ha ha he he!!
OK, Tiger finally did what he needed to do. Now he can concentrate on golf and take out other women without penalties. Go get um brah.
Pride:
can we jump on your band wagon for post #142?
would this get UH into a BCS bowl? i gotta tell the relatives no come to my house on 1/1/2011! like i did in February 2007.
hello, whitey:
when you headed to the Great North land for fishing/crabbing/ etc?
Wow!!! Makes you want to strap it up, and hit somebody.
“Last Play!”
“Last Play!”
“Last Play!”
Pride, you one sharp cookie. I couldn’t even think of a score for the first game, but that is what happens when the dark side merchants keep you from returning to earth.
Not good enough for a BCS bowl. Gotta beat USC for that one. Maybe the boys will get it done?
Col, we should make a quick trip to POW. Salmon is all over the place and I understand that they are permitting the Russian trawlers to seine inshore right now.
Whitey, I understand what you are talking about. I really do understand, so does Koakane, Stretch, J(J), A-Joe. We’ve been down that Happy Valley road before.
I like #142 – probably realistic, but with ho’omake’aka and aloha.
al, your crab is still here and the ikura is in the first stage. will not be ready till october.
Between Pride’s and JJ’s posts, I mean, damm! You fellahs know to set the table!
Here’s a head butt, chest bump and a big ole man hug to both o’ yas!!!
GO WARRIORS!!!
BEAT USC!!!
PRIDE #142 YEAH! BELIEVE!!!! IMUA HAWAII!!!!
From the LA Times
“To open the season, the Trojans play Hawaii, and based on their record last year which was 6-7, the Trojans should easily handle the Warriors. The team needs to come out strong, find a rhythm, and play aggressive, smart football.”
Sheesh, I thought that that was our game plan. Must have spies, so need to close practice.
If the Trojans don’t handle business against the Warriors, it will be a very long season in Los Angeles. If they get the job done, look for them to continue and build off of the momentum they created in Honolulu.
LA Times (continuing on the article):
Nine days after the game in Honolulu, the Trojans will be hosting the Virginia Cavaliers at the Coliseum. This is a must win—a no-brainer, actually—because losing to Virginia would a disaster for the Trojans.
The Cavaliers are coming off a 3-9 season last year, and finished last in the ACC Coastal Division.
The Trojans need to handle business early and often, then let guys from the second team get some reps in. This should be like a practice for the Trojans.
Disasters can happen anytime, so to take any team cheaply, you are flirting with disaster.

USC booster to me today: “It’s not even going to be close. USC’s 2nd, no 3rd team could whip UH. Their players are huge and look like pros. Probably could play with some NFL teams.” More fuel to the fire.
Pros? Maybe they are.
Kai Maiava (from Maui), UCLA starting center is out for the season.
papajoe, all USC former players and alumni talk that way, because they have been winning each year, but this is a new season and they have some major problems which will make them vunerrable. We will see on Sept 2nd, who has the bragging rights.

I believe in your #164 post.
I sat next to a yound local boy at a golf tournament dinner who was a USC grad and talk about arrogance!
One would think that he was the “star” of the football team each year he was an undergrad! Really stuck his nose up in the air about UH’s game on 9/2!
ST,
Brett Leonard starting at center???
A-house,
It’s prolly not really much different than if a Hawaii fan was talking to someone from No. Charleston, SC about the game on Sept. 25.
There are fans from the Pac10/12 that are arrogant. Not all of them, mind you, but there are a few. Much like there are Hawai’i fans who are quick to put down DI-AA teams as unworthy, lacking talent, a blowout game, . . .
I thought that was extremeley informative. Thanks for the great content. I’ll keep an eye on this.Bob Perry, Work New York, 65 Chambers Street, New York, NY 10007
Whitey, why is Maiava out for the season? Injury? Can’t be academics again, can it?

Maiava fractured left ankle out for the season.
Appreciate the practice updates. Regarding Bright, I’d play him. The future is now. Mack will be on the hot seat if UH struggles again, so now is the time to shoot all your bullets, unload your magazine, unleash all your weapons Mack.
RedZone, too bad about Maiava. Maybe, it’s a good thing not to have a scrimmage. If you’re gonna get injured, might as well do it during a big game, right?
Again, wondering about those shoes… Why are there still ankle issues for the players who wear them?
gigi,
Maiava’s not our guy…

Speed Kills!
Our man in L.A. emailed me that the USC secondary starts 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores, the most with 3 games experience. He thinks we can pass on them. He thinks their offense in gonna score on us, so if we can score more than them, we can to beat ’em….
…hmmmm, that sounded more profound before I wrote it out. 😳
But interesting tidbit on their secondary.
I dread seeing my HECO bill, cause I’ve been running the AC night and day. It’s been so hot and humid here.
Dennis, when I asked hubby to predict a score for the WB, he said USC would beat UH by a large margin. I told him that if he sent Pomai that kind of score, the Tsai-kos would kill him. So best not to send anything.
Manoa Mist,
You are right on:
“…now is the time to shoot all your bullets, unload your magazine, unleash all your weapons Mack.” But with a name like Manoa Mist,
thought you would say something like,
…overcome them with the lovely Hawaiian scents
of pua kenikeni and pikake…etc
Kill hubby?
Nah. Better to let him live. State and city need the taxes. Now that would be a lot more painful.
wafan, anoddah bad ting could happen: Stretch could force him to gamble one paycheck on his bid. LOL
wonder who the voters in Kalihi will blame…
Just like what JJ had SMU do in the Hawaii Bowl, I hope UH opens with a long, deep pass to a receiver and scores! That would be awesome.
wafan – #191 – I’m glad I’m not the only one having problems, although hubby is in the other room and seems to be playing Dungeons & Dragons online without too much trouble.
In a surprising defensive epic both teams are held scoreless through nearly four quarters. With five seconds left in the game and facing a fourth and seven on their own ten yard line Matt Barkley trying to make a play gets sacked in the end zone by a determined Cory Parades.

OldDiver, that better NOT happen!!! Grrrrr!!! We are not paying for PPV just to see that kind of lousy game!!! lol
Sorry, Paredes.

Useful post, but the theme don’t show up properly on my iPad…perhaps you should take a look. Thanks, anyway.
Good. It’s the same here in Washington. Can be remarkably frustrating, but that’s life in the 21st century.
Too bad for Maiava, didn’t play last season because of transfer, and now broken leg. Wish him well and speedy recovery.
Pomai,
38-21 UH wins by special teams play baby!
useful site.
RE: #115 said – And the most important thing is that I hope this motivates the UH coaches, players and team. Very few, here, I bet, would realize what I just did.
ok, i guess dis guy takes the credit when we win and sez i told you so if we don’t. brah, let me tell you dis right now. we don’t need no stinkin motivation from the like of you whether you psyching or not. your post do nothing for us. in fact, you like get us going you should come to practice and go one on one with any of us. we hate da negative vibe bro. love da bruddahs and sistas who give us the props and help us out. you are the ones who motivate us! not the lolos who think they are sooooo smart. support is what we all need now and fo eva! mahalo to the blog. mahalo to the real fans. you know who you are. mahalo! oh and haters, you lucky we close practice or we would surely like to hear from you down on the field face to face. mahalo hawaii and aloha!

whitey…coming in thursday. but, its your game day.
That’s interesting. I’m from Chicago and see the same result. Anyway, I will be back before too long.
playa,
Many here know what you and your brothers do for all Hawaii.
Mahalo to you…
“Somebody in this room is going to make a big play.”
“Somebody in this room is going to dart downfield on that kickoff, put his head on the ball, and pop that ball high in the air. Another player in this room is going to pounce on it and give us that ball back.”
“Somebody in this room is going to block a punt tonight. I don’t know who it is. But somebody’s going to do it.”
Finally got to watch the AZ-TN game & see Ryan Mouton make some tackles. Good to see him in a game, even though it’s pre-season. Hope he get more PT. Go, Ryan!
The ESPN commentators are right about Matt Leinart. I watched him in practice a couple of years ago and he’s not that focused. He has to practice like he’s supposed to play. I saw that in Warner, even when he was doing stretching.
Good idea to close practices. Focus.
GO WARRIORS!!!
“Who’s it going to be?”
“Who has the courage and the toughness to put his head on that ball as it comes off of the punter’s foot.”
“I don’t know who it is, but it’s somebody in this room.”
I watched Dolphin vs Jaguar replay today and thought Bess was their most steady receiver. I wish they would use him more inside the redzone. He is being used more as a 3rd down receiver and punt returner.
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
No predictions on the game but here is my take: UH Warrior Band 7, USC Band 6… and we get to play our Alma Mater!
“Change the color of the uniform. Take the emblem off of the helmet. Wipe the letters off of the jersey. Who are you playing? Just a bunch of guys in a football uniform. Don’t know their names. Don’t know where they come from? Just a guy in a uniform. Strip them of their accolades, strip them of their reputation, strip them from the history, and their alumni boosters. Who are they? What are they? They’re just a bunch scared 18 to 22 year old young men, just like you are. Strip them bare of their team name and they are nobody. Now it’s up to you. Are you going to allow them to build a new reputation? Are you going to allow them to reap new accolades?”
“The tablet is bare. What are you going to write on it? It’s there for the taking. The tablet doesn’t belong to them, unles you give it to them. They are facing a blank tablet also. What happened in history, is history. Today is a new day. Write a new story on your tablet.”
I will be back. Forgot to take my meds.
Saw Kaniela on the news tonight. Looks like his right arm was wrapped to his side. Does he have a shoulder injury?

Looks like Kaniela had ice wrapped on his shoulder or bicep. Probably from being banged up at practice.

My wife thinks that I’m getting that way – specially on photoshop.
Who is going to tomorrow’s Man Fan event?
roysan16 on # 115,
I’ll gladly take the 66 points from you too (just like ‘stretch’). Are you willing to put money where your mouth is? I am. Or should you just change your moniker (again) to something more appropriate like “Waha” for instance?
Jesse Palmer and Lou Holtz were quoted on ESPN that Hawaii should go independent, “they’ll make more money as an independent.”
They think that if Hawaii played the BCS teams on the mainland for a large guarantee and schedule home and home games with schools on the west coast that independence would be doable. The mainland away games are “body bag” games that Garret mentioned, JD needs to be a tough negotiator so we do make a lot of money after travel expenses. We can then schedule games with the old WAC and MWC for lower home and home guarantees.

UH 41 – USC 31
Our Shock and Awe campaign begins…
The WAC was so concerned about our Haka (Ha’a), they forgot to take care of things that really needed attention… like THE CONFERENCE FALLING APART!!!
Looks like JD has been talking with the Big West and the WCC is *not* an option for UH.
….Ohayou gozaimasu….
Great Morning All!
Garret,
Expected that; kinda like the Northwest Conference in D3 athletics. They have been approached by public institutions in the past and have rebuffed them in a similar fashion.
btw, hope your trip is going well.
…i’m liking Fred’s commentary this morning…so how much is the destruction of a conference worth?
http://www.staradvertiser.com/columnists/ferdswords/20100824_WAC_needs_to_hold_defectors_accountable_for_their_treason.html
Hoping that Shutter and the rest of the “scouts” continue to give the starters good “looks”…
Hank,
Agreed. Fire for effect…
Aloha full moon Kakahiaka!
I’ve often discussed trying to figure why the Big West might want UH, instead of just thinking about things from UH’s pespective. It is important to note that adding UH to the Big West would give the Big West automatic spots in the NCAA tournament for softball, baseball and volleyball…if they value those sports, UH was in the postseason for all 3 sports and would add strength to their conference in those sports.
Providing an NCAA spot on 3 sports might be the key for UH. If that is important enough to the Big West that UH doesn’t need to provide travel subsidies to the Big West, then the economics of independence might work out.
If UH goes independent and losing UH is the final nail that kills the WAC…would UH be included in the number of schools that the WAC would be suing?
Anyway, off to my meetings now. d1, the drive was pleasant yesterday and hopefully meetings go well today.
Since UH is obviously talking about joining with other conferences while being a WAC member and helping the WAC decide on its course of action (including whether or not to sue teams that leave the conference), UH does need to worry about being sued if UH leaves and if the WAC starts filing lawsuits.
Garret…i would hope that UH wouldn’t gather the remaining WAC members to reinforce solidarity and then ditch them as soon as the Big West offers them a deal that can be workable without forewarning….being sensitive to their working relationship with the WAC and being honest about the needs of university is a skill that will measure Donovan/Hinshaw’s effectiveness in driving our athletic department through this difficult time.
My belief is that they’ll do a good job.
…although BYU may not get an automatic BCS bid like Notre Dame (if it finishes in the top eight)…it currently gets 1.5 million a year from the mwc in tv revenue vs a potential 10-million a year if it went independent…
…the decision comes before September 1.

Of course we tend to focus on the situation from Hawaii’s viewpoint but Utah St. has big concerns as well. Their AD, Scott Barnes, is gonna feel lots more pressure when basketball season rolls around:
Garret,
I can see a conflict of interest if UH is looking for a way out of the WAC while still looking out for the WAC’s best interest. But, I don’t see them being held liable if the WAC starts suing everybody. The only reason why UH is looking to outside conferences is because FSU and Nevada left. If they were still in the WAC, UH wouldn’t be looking at other conferences. JD is finally looking out for UH instead of the WAC.
Good Tuesday morning all…(and that includes that rascal roysan!) What a prediction!
Pomai ~ It inspired me to send in my score of UH 56 – Toejams 13 (blocked extra point). So D-1, it’s me and you, down to the wire on every game this season!
