MWC Media Preview — Day 2
The Rainbow Warriors anticipate losing running back Joey Iosefa, who suffered a foot injury, for a significant period. How long? That depends on test results and his rehabilitation.
Freshman running backs Diocemy Saint Juste, Aofaga Wily and Steven Lakalaka (who redshirted in 2012) have accepted the challenge. Willis Wilson, a transfer from Washington, and Levi Wilson, who was at College of San Mateo, also could be in the mix.
* * * * *
It was no surprise Boise State’s Chris Petersen was the most popular at the MWC Media Preview. Each coach had his own table. For television interviews, reporters and camera operators waited in line for interviews, sort of like cabs at airport curbs.

First…
Morning all. Sorry to hear about Joey’s injury. Hope he heals quickly. I thought Wily might redshirt but not now.
What happened to Will Gregory?
Lots of competition at RB. Good Morning from Paradise. Where are the trade winds?
Das what I’m talkin about Willis (Wilson that is).

Bummer about Joey. 🙁
Heal up Joey!
Man up Warriors!
Joey no…
and if Willis’ tape didn’t get your juices flowing, check out DSJ’s tape.

Good Morning Folks!
Sorry to hear about losing Joey Iosefa! Healing prayers for a full recovery, Joey!
top ten!!!!!
Yup, DSJ is electric. Shifty, changes direction well, finds the hole/good vision, accelerates, top speed, gone. Seems to have decent hands as well. MWC defenses will have their hands full. If people don’t come out to watch DSJ play, not sure what it will take. Come to the games, make big noise, support the student athletes, win or lose. Enjoy life. Be happy.
Go Mighty Warriors!
3-prong, those were very exciting highlights!
Let’s go Rainbow Warriors, BEAT USC!
Guess it wouldn’t matter if the names were on the back of the jerseys if both Wilsons were in the backfield. It might just confuse the defense.
Guaranteed road game tickets (cheaper than UH ticket office @$60):
50 yard sideline seats: UNLV Oct. 12 road game
$55 each for 50 yard sideline seats behind our Warrior bench.
$30 for endzone seats
Sit safely with a 100-200 other diehard Hawaii fans all wearing GREEN! also got tix for Reno and OSU.
Email me: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com
On the bright side, since no longer having to compete with a starter its makes the competition that much closer and the job up for grabs.
st juste is for all…
How’d he hurt his foot?
DSJ reminds me of Gary Allen slashing through the holes. Put a tear away jersey on that bugga!!
Very sorry to hear about Iosefa. Prayers for him.
One Warrior down, others have to step up. Good luck to all!
GO WARRIORS!!!
“Though the Wolf Pack will retain the Pistol offense, Fajardo said Rolovich will incorporate more of the run-and-shoot he ran as Hawaii’s coordinator in 2010 and 2011.”

Must be the same foot he broke last year…
Get healed soon, Joey.
Sorry to hear about Iosefa. DSJ has an unreal highlight tape. Lest we remember however, that patience is just as important as explosiveness when it comes to running backs. Can’t wait to see what he can do at the college level. We have a lot of RB’s so I would not be surprised if he redshirts. But then again….
BIK
Heal up Joey.
The running that is able to pick up blitzes and can block will play the most. I love the incoming backs, especially the freshmen but if you can’t block you will not play much.
Until I see the Olinr play this year, the running backs ability to block is key.
Will Gregory broke a rule, was placed on the probation by the school, then was ruled to have not abided by those terms. As a result, he was dismissed from school.
This was a university ruling, which was enforced by a committee on student conduct, and then by an appeals committee. The athletic department did not have a say in the ruling.
He probably can be allowed to re-enroll at a future date, but it won’t be this coming semester.
Good job, folks, on posting the links.
Oh, the agony of de feet.
New feet must fill his shoes.
A feat not easily done.
But defeat is not an option.
The RB position seems to be one of the deepest on the roster, can’t wait to see how Lakalaka does.
“Thompson said his league maintains a good relationship with former member BYU, which is now an independent in football. “If they ever decide that maybe that’s not the right place for them, we have a good relationship. We talk to them. We schedule them,” Thompson said. “They’ll probably wait and see four, five years into it (the new playoff system). What does this mean to us? Can we access this at all?”

#28 inyoface –
Saw Lakalaka a few weeks back and talked story with him. He looks like he’s added good weight. He looked stronger, breaking tackles last spring. I think he’ll be a lot of help. He hopes to lose a few pounds by camp, but he didn’t appear to be anything but solid. Nice guy, too.
Don’t we have a couple of Big Back / Fullback types on the roster also?
Haka:
That was pretty clever. Kudos.

Aloha and regards from NYC to everyone!! The positive drop-back to all of this is that there is abundance of depth at the running back position; great opportunity to for some folks to step-up.
Steve Lakalaka will probably start and i garantee St. Juste will play and not redshirt if he stays healthy. We need the speed, and he’s got it.
Imua warriors!
Coach’m up Chow!!!
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Football is in the air! But we will run too!
@18 3 Prong: Exactly what I was thinking too. Give him jersey #26. We old!
Joey, Joey, Joey. Murphy’s Law hits early. It’s a tough deal for the team. Like they say, somebody else will have to step up. Too bad that big FB from Kealakehe can’t play this year. We need a good short yardage running back to pick up the tough yards. One thing is certain, Iosefa won’t be fumbling the football. Joey, get well real soon. It’s a long season.
Or “Old School”, or both.
Been gone for a little bit not sure if the mystery DE been revealed but found this on HawaiiFootball.net

Joey broke his foot…Dang. Hope it heals up and is ready by game day. In the mean time, I’m all for bubble wrapping Taylor just in case.
And #35 wasn’t me.
Roster listed stats
Steven Lakalaka RB 5-10 240 Fr.
Joey Iosefa RB 6-0 245 Jr.
Samson Anguay RB 5-7 170 So.
Diocemy Saint Juste RB 5-8 180 Fr.
Aofaga Wily RB 5-11 215 Fr.
Marcus Langkilde RB 5-11 235 Jr.
Jason Muraoka RB 5-7 175 So.
Max Broman RB 6-1 210 Fr.
How many people attend these MWC media days?
Bad break for Joey, heal up. Step up time. Show you want it.
iwonder….are you saying our frosh/red shirt frosh RBs aren’t good blockers?
Man, Joey’s injury adds insult to injury. I thought he was the one proven commodity on offense. He was the one guy who showed he could play here and for just about anyone else in the confierence. He played because he showed he derserved to play and not b ecuase he was the best available guy on the team for that position.
I remember #40 David Toloumu (Oceanside, CA) in the same backfield with Gary Allen back when. I think I read that at that time, Toloumu was the fastest player on the team with a 4.43 40. That’s still fast by today’s standards.
and…
Willis Wilson 5’9″ 185
Levi Wilson 5’9” 190
#49,
cocobean,
Nah, it’s just that I wouldn’t want Taylor getting hurt in the pre-season. Well, technically I would’t want anyone getting hurt at any point, but you know what I mean.
I forgot about Broman. I still say he runs and plays like Brock Forsey and that’s not bad. Things are looking up!!!!
Good morning Tsaikos!
Fast healing to Mr. Iosefa.
Hope the players are not riding mopeds. I remember when there was a rash of players getting into moped accidents back in the 80s and 90s. UH lost their best return players in Marco Johnson due to a moped accident.
I would think you would at least want a 200-pound plus back for blocking duties. Then again, if you miss blocks it doesn’t really matter how big you are.
Technique and heart can block out the sun!
This is huge hit for Hawaii Warrior offense, get well fast Joey! But I think Aofaga Wily will impress and get significant playing time along with Lakalaka and Diocemy Sanit Juste.
We’ll see who is the cream.
GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!
It’s another prime number day.
Short clip of Taylor Graham and Siasau Matagiese at Media Day.

Good morning everyone!
Heal up Joey Iosefa!
Not too worried when the RBs run the ball. It’s about doing their assignments when they’re not running it.
I guess my biggest worry on offense is the same as the majority of hardcores – how much has the oline has improved. That along with finding a legitimate TE.
#46 Old School–Great call, David not only had great wheels, but in the modern era of UH football was one of the most competitive tough guys around. Folks may not recall, but he played at just about 200 pounds or a little under, and played in stints at fullback. In fact, he started a couple games ahead of Danny Lei, who was a big UCLA transfer….the closer is that he made the Atlanta Falcons as the lightest RB on the squad.
51–Old school, I was involved with one of those “moped accidents” in the mid-80s. My roommates Kyle Kefentzis and Vince Sides. BTW, since passed away, was one of the hardest hitters, pound for pound, of any UH player I have seen up close. I recall, he was not yet in scholarship, I think in 1982 or 83, and he was laying out fools in spring practice, and I’m not talking skinny receivers like Walter Murray, but rather RBs and assorted TEs. God rest in peace in Vinny…..
Boolakanaka: I didn’t know that Vince Sides passed away. Rest in Peace, Vince.
Bobby Bowlsby, Big 12 commissioner talked about the big 5 conferences breaking away from the NCAA. More greed talk. System to benefit the few.
Steve Spurrier talking about giving $300 per game to football athletes. I’m guessing that UH probably doesn’t have that kind of money. Another thing to separate the have’s from the have-not’s.
BCS schools talking about making FBS more exclusive. Sux to NOT be in that system. UH fans, we either put aside personal differences and come together, or we will be left in the dust and perhaps left w/o a football program after the dust settles.
Lakalaka and Wiley in the backfield would be a good combo.
The guy who Stephen reports keeps moving the chains, at QB, would make it a winning combo.
Independent Thinker,
What about St. Juste? How does he figure in?
Start Lakalaka and Wiley, rotate St Juste in to confuse the Ds. What so you, Iwonder?
I have no idea to be honest, don’t know enough of any of them to say yet. We shall see!
And in the interim:
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/20130723_Breaking_News_Regents_pick_UH_executive_David_Lassner_as_interim_president.html
Old School…Yes he passed in late 2006, died of a brain aneurysm. He had a really great send-off from a bunch of us who played in the early mid 80s organized a great send-off, right after the funeral. All the Kafentzis brothers, John Taylor, Jack Sims, Frank Strong, Han, etc….some ex UH baseball players, many of his ex GFs (despite being married–vince was always popular with the ladies). True to the popularity of Vince, and even I was surprised, Forrest Whittacker and Marcus Allen attended his funeral…..man, I miss that guy.
Don’t forget about
Marcus langkilde he
looked pretty good
moving the chains
during the spring.
I have watched Lakalaka and Wiley. Each has the ability to break it open, from any place on the field on any down. Like you, haven’t seen St. Juste. Wiley is an excellent back, great vision for finding gaps, openings, and then just getting into the end zone. Lakalaka tends to want to “bang it” with defenders, instead of just concentrating on getting into the end zone. Wiley likes the path of least resistance and tends to get into the end zone without being “banged”. Obviously, short yard situations, Lakalaka. 1 and 10, Wiley, when we are not passing.
Just because they dominated in high school doesn’t mean they have the speed and power to break it open in D1. The holes for 1 aren’t going to be as big as the ones the Punahou and Kahuku O lines created. Also defenders are going to be a lot bigger, stronger, and faster…
Ooops!
Just because a person sat on the bench at another college doesn’t mean he can’t play, right, jeezy? You must be related to chow. You both think alike.
That being said, I can only hope for a good season for our young men. They deserve better.
Cautious optimism is my motto.
#74–good point. Rich Miano, sat three years on the bench, waiting for time to open behind, Mark Kafentzis and others, but when presented with the opportunity, became an ALLWAC db for two years, and then almost a dozen years in the NFL as one of the rarest creatures around–a white DB–not too shabby at all. Long story short, you don’t know who is a star in the making until you get on the field.
74. What are you talking about? You are trying to be a homer on 2 local kids who haven’t proven anything yet. I didn’t say a word about a person who sat the bench somewhere else..
Lakalaka redshirted for a 3 win team that didn’t have a RB who who rushed for over 700 yards… Other teams in the conference has true freshmen who had to play on good teams that didn’t need to redshirt.
I’ll be shocked if St Juste or Wily don’t get the majority of the 1st team reps.
Would help if you knew how to spell Wily correctly though.. Then again, using the term “bang” as a scouting report on these guys should say enough.
MWC Commissioner Thompson said he’s not a big fan of subdivisions. He thinks that incoming FCS schools making the jump to FBS “waters down the product”. He believes we should be less concerned with subdivisions and more focused on “federation by sport”.
I bet he’s a strong proponent of tougher immigration policies.
Our young men chose to play for Chow. That says a lot. Let’s support them.
Kurt Warner…you know the story. Just needed a chance.
Tom Brady, the ultimate bench player while at Michigan. NFL…Future Hall of Fame.
Sometimes coaches don’t know how to use or recognize talent they have. Other coaches do.
I think they can recognize talent. The problem is incorporating that talent (skill set) into their system. Harbaugh seemed to have seen something in Colin Kaepernick when all the analyst were saying “meh”.
I guess the analyst got it wrong with Ryan Leaf. 😆
Can’t get em all correct in the professional drafts. Sam Bowie ring a bell?
You can add JaMarcus Russel to that list.
Fortunately there is some unproven depth and talent at RB! I like the choices for different situations. Hard work will prove who gets playing time starting w/ SC. Beat USC!
I, like others have mentioned would like to see the o-line kick butt.
Reread ST’s interview with coach Chow and looking back on last season I’ve come to the conclusion ( in hindsight) that Coach’s biggest mistake was not retaining more of the old staff.
I firmly believe with Miano, Rolo and Aranda our record would have been better.
Jeezy, IT, we all want the same thing right? Aren’t we on the same team?
ST, thank you for editing the inappropriate post.
Coach Chow continues to up grade staff by hiring Chris Naeole to mentor the o-line, which can only improve a very deficient part of the offense!
Hey all,
Saw this interview with Chow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSwDmncV8t4
Should give Ewaliko a shot at runningback.
We’re all just one big family on this blog with differing opinions. Sometimes the conversation gets a little heated and regrettable things are said, but, yes, we’re all on the same team. Still love the drama!
You mean like family?
# 86…. hindsight.. maybe ur right. but remember.. all he hired.. he knew personally..
from past teams he was on as a coach.. and to think.. you have such a short time to
put a staff together.. and to come in new… and just accept more of the old staff.. ..
would be so very hard to swallow…
besides personalities.. he would have to.. accept skills.. that would be .. hard to
accept at that late date.. but then again.. he did know some of them personally i guess
but not …professionally .. maybe.. surely the lee brothers…. would have been acceptable
to him … I would think.. ..but .. who knows… have to get a really personal interview with him to find out his reasons .. coach by coach.. why he did not hire.. but that is getting to personal… maybe..

I posted the definition of a word (see http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/retarded); I did not post a comment.
Last time I checked, a comment is when a person actually types out a statement conveying an opinion, etc.
Are we now moderating mere definitions from Webster’s?
@#90…funny thing about the video, if you pause the video right at the beginning (literally at beginning) look in the mirror behind Chow and our fearless Blog leader can be seen in the mirror….Go Tsai and Go warriors!!!
How about Dustin Elisara? Has he recovered from that knee injury…I remember he did well at the 2012 spring game before getting injured. I believe he could be our BIG BACK and short yardage person…
NotNasti: U right! “Old” is a state of “Mine” (not mind)!
I bet there are a few DB/Safties that also could move over to the offense to run the ball too…
There are many valid views and perspectives posted, and here is my 2 cents on the matter of Coach Chow and his decision to not retain the previous regime of coaches; in short, he needs to set his own table of proverbial managers, as at the end of the day, it is ultimately his personal singular responsibility for the success of the team. Now, I will preface by saying, that for whatever it is worth, and might not be too much, I work in academia on the specific subject of management and leadership in executive position. That said, some of the more common features of successful leadership, in the context of a management team are as follows:
Leadership is always personal. There is no magic formula for successful leadership, — and no one-size-fits-all best practices, either. Instead, each great leader always answer the question: “What is the best way for me to lead?” Thus, Chow will need to figure out his or her own unique leadership signature — one that draws on his or her own strengths. While charismatic leaders are particularly memorable, there are many other ways to be an effective leader….e.g. Bilicheck.
That said, leadership usually involves four overarching skills: sensemaking (in other words, making sense of your own personal environment in which your organization operates ); visioning; relating to others; and inventing new ways to get things done.
My own take is that while Rich Miano ( who is a personal friend) and others are no doubt highly competent, they represent a historical asterik, that at this point, needs to be placed in the past, and going forward with new blood, would be more productive in the long-run, as well as more sustainable. But, then again, just my own 2 cents…
Boola, that wasn’t 2 cents . . . that was 2 dollars.
Former coaches Aranda, Miano, Cal Lee, Rolovich? Hey, I’m still upset that Coach Wagner and his staff couldn’t convince Kimo Von Oelhoffen to remain at UH and not transfer to a JUCO 😉
Very interesting and enlightening. Well said.
Just had a flashback of a Risk Management seminar.
Interesting to hear former HC Dick Tomey say that his most challenging head coaching job wasn’t when he took over at UH in 1977, but at Arizona in 1986. He was replacing a very popular Larry Smith and it took several years before the players actually bought in to what Tomey and his staff wanted.
Is this the 1800’s?
RIP Vincent Sides.
Wow boo great take. . thus retaining the one coach who is not so deeply entrenched as coach Miano was .but create a smoother transition and m/b define his own hopefully “legacy”.
Hmm, I’m sure Anthony Weiner is a firm believer in that philosophy.
Just for clarification. Post 112 was in response to 109.
Think I’ll quit for today since I’m posting for the sake of posting with nothing positive to contribute.
Boolakanaka.
I like your perspective of Chow’s staff. Initially, when Chow annouced his staff I got the gist of why he only retained Tuiotu. New start, new beginning and all that. At that time I agreed with the reasoning behind his decision.
But in retrospect it’s my opinion coach Chow had no real background in building/rebuilding a program. He tore everything down and began from the ground up. This task proved more than he bargained for. It wasn’t just about the Xs and Os and the different O and D schemes he wanted to implement. It was the administrative tasks that comes along with being a HC. It was about delegation of responsibilities to his staff and building bonds between the staff and players.
I still believe Miano would have helped admistratively and Rolo and Aranda would have helped with the Xs and Os and with the game planning schemes against competition they were somewhat familiar with. All three in my opinion were coaches the players trusted and had strong bonds with.
I’m usually not a person to cry over spilled milk. I’m usually a water under the bridge kindof person. But St’s interview brought out thoughts that have been gnawing at me since the end of last season. Come on, Lee instead of Rolo wasn’t a mistake.
Kiki…vince was one of my best boys, at school, playing ball, and away, so your comments are heartfelt. As to all the insightful comments on the current task before Coach Chow….everyone has wise mana’o to offer. I too would have felt, that Rich would have served as a wise and pragmatic link to the past, but as some of you have already alluded to, it is sometimes not the Xs and Os, or even just inherent management responsibilities, but rather the delicate job of handling and cultivating a host of personalities. And it within this area, at least from my perch from afar, I think he made the very difficult decision of cutting ties to the former staff. Remember, Rich equally wanted the position, and while we are all grown-up, well me less than others, that would have naturally provoked some looking over the shoulder and second-guessing…..That said, I think we have many positive things in place and have every right to expect a very solid season…and as 103 well put it…sorry, that was just my 2 dollars.
People can go back and try to edit history — I mean, should Shoko have asked another person to the prom? — but this is the situation.
I like Rolo, and they came close to retaining him.
I like Miano. But the administration wasn’t going to hire him. The administration didn’t even give him an interview for the head-coaching job after community leaders begged — even threatened — for a chance just to speak to the selection committee.
It is is what it is, and there were mistakes in the first year. But the main things is Chow isn’t inflexible. The offense is going to look a lot different. They had a pretty good recruiting class. And I think people are going to like Jordan Wynn, Chris Naeole, Luke Matthews and Richard Torres.
Life goes on …
And just think what the discussion would be today if Chow had a winning record and bowl win last season.
Yes, I want to edit my prom date.
Nice day today…
Must be getting close to football season. Errbody getting antsy. Players need to hit someone in another uniform and fans need to get nuts.
And Boola, you’re up to about 5 dollars already, but its all good stuff. Love to read your insightful comments. Knowledgeable and fair.
Tom Selleck should have taken the role of Indiana Jones. D’oh!!
ST
I understand where you’re coming from.
Just had to get that thought out of my system. Feel better that I did.
Jimmy #115.
Chow for Guv.
The great who am I mystery…….
Boolakanaka – what side of the ball did you play. The detective in me says D…corner perhaps?
cocobean, if Chow beats Abercrombie for guv would he keep the former guvs staff? 😆
I like Rolo and even Miano
but their must be something
strongly that the administration
felt was a no go with Miano to
not even give him a interview.
Braddha cocobean–you aka must be Tom Selleck, as that was a very good guess….
Let’s be honest: if you aren’t first string in ANY college program, regardless of your physical abilities, the current roster, and how strong your team is, then you suck. Take a look at taylor graham. Sure, he was rated as the #14 quarterback in the nation at one point, has the throwing form and physical tools, as well as a cannon for an arm. Sure, he probably only stayed on the bench with the coaching change at ohio state and the entirely new offense that was installed that may not mesh well with a prototypical dropback passer. Sure, another kid named Braxton Miller came in and took the spotlight.
But he’s a bench player. so he sucks. no matter what. now everyone, talk to me about how intelligent i am.
IF and that is a big IF. When UH ever gets to play in one of the big bowl games ever again make sure to use it as a stepping stone to maintain and grow the program even more. What an about face since then. I will every so often mention this so all do not forget.
One big miss opportunity. Ineptness abound as the leaders back then at UH or in the backrooms seem to have all disappeared or went incognito.
Anyone who puts down a student-athlete is a morrrrron period. You have no class at all. You are less than whale sh!t. That’s how intelligent you are.
I apologize(not to you moron) for my outburst, I should not let an idiot get to me that way, but I just couldn’t help myself…….

Quick headings Joey!!

I agree with you Pomai.. Some people are morons,,, lol!Wasnt Moniz a bench player? How come he didn’t go to a Div I school out of high school?
Indy.
You’re as transparent as glass. The sole purpose of your rant is to up the # of posts, right?
The only factual thing anyone can post about Graham is he’s unproven.
#131 Well, we cannot expect everyone to be a fan. Some are just haters and just want to see failure. Such is life, even if they see themselves otherwise.
I agree though, to demean a young person to prove one’s own negative view is somewhat callous.
USC was ranked #1 in the NATION. Huh go figgah.
There he goes again independently thinking with no help from others, by himself, all alone on an island …however I leave him there and I will not let it get to me like yesterday! Pomai I know how you feel, believe me!
#141 – That is a good thing because when we defeat them on August 29th we will then take over the #1 spot in the country, right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#142 – I have dealt first hand with some of our student-athletes over the years and I have not found one, not one who should be treated like that on any public forum at all…. If a moron knew what these young people go through on a daily basis to be able to compete in their chosen sport they would shut their hole which ever end they are talking out of.

Sure, I was rated as the #14 legendary quarterback in my own mind at one point, with the throwing form and physical tools of an old Camel, as well as a limp cannon of a dork. Sure, even in my own dreams I’d probably only stayed on the bench with the coaching change at ohio state and the entirely new offense that was installed that may not mesh well with a prototypical Camel like prowess such as myself. Sure, another reality kid named Braxton Miller actually came in and took the actual spotlight.
But I’m an imaginary bench player. so I sucks. no matter what. now everyone, talk to me about how intelligent i am.

Can’t agree. The UH administration has a long history of ignoring the right person and making poor hires. That list is long. Not commenting on the specific names you mentioned.
Any video on the press conference? Can’t seem to find anything.
Wait! Hawaii has a running game? Since when? LOL. Hope he heals fast and God bless! GO WARRIORS!
Miano and Rolo both applied for the HC job.
Neither was among the finalists.
I felt both should have been brought in for in-person interviews.
It wasn’t going to cost anything more than a parking validation. They already were in town.
And it didn’t mean either had to be selected. The members could have doodled on legal pads while pretending to listen. But they were deserving of interviews. If not, what was the point of making Miano the interim head coach?
Several vacancies ago, Cal Lee was brought in for an interview. From what I heard, he had a tremendous interview with clear plan for recruiting and strategy. They weren’t going to hire him. But, damn, he came ready to play.
Rant (Part II):
The next time an AD (or powerbroker) fires a head coach, then he should fire all of the assistants, too. Then if the new coach wants to hire back some of those assistants, he can do that. It’s tough when a new guy has to come in and fire coaches he’s never worked with before.
And finally — woo, hoo — word on the street is UH’s soccer coach won big in Vegas recently.
Drinks are on “Bud.”
150 – it’s like your posts = blah blah blah
Congrats to David Lassner for his appointment to interim UH President.
This was a pleasant surprise to me. I had the fortune to interact with David in the mid-90’s under joint UH-DOE summer tech programs. He was a smart guy on the bleeding edge of Technology, but he was a nice guy, down-to-earth, and he could explain technical things in a version of english that most of us understood. 🙂
Got his Ph.D soon after. Aside from his tech speciality, he knew how to communicate–with people.
Go Dr. Lassner!
miano was deemed not “qualified for the job” because they wanted someone with hc experience.

how about arnold and arnold. mistakes, both times.
i always wonder if they should have let coach McMackin work his final year of his contract. i was always impressed with that 10-4 season (except) for the hawaii bowl loss to Tulsa. that coaching staff had potential, i always thought.
UH is still kicking themselves for not doing more to keep Dom Capers (UH secondary coach 75-76).
Interesting day of posts.
I wasn’t talking about coaches in particular. UH has a history of making bad hiring choices at the administrative and management level in every field. Point is the UH administration does not have a crystal ball when it comes to hiring and the reasons for turning down the better candidate can many times leave one scratching their head.

Haka, I really appreciate your posts @27 & 144!
@168. Cocobean, Nice!
I thought they should have let McMackin finish his final year on a couple conditions: fire Miano and get rid of any “part-time” coaches who refused to recruit. It’s all water under the bridge…
Book on Chow is still open…however, if the Warriors start the year in dismal fashion (i.e. not competitive) there will be alot of flies at Aloha Stadium.
I hope for the best and will cheer on the boys…no matter what.
hehe…. oh snap
hehe kinda dated…80’s 90’s at best?
first snap didn’t happen yet and we got people “oh snapping” at each other….funny
