DeMello leaving radio show
Rob DeMello, who has emerged as one of the most creative and entertaining radio hosts, is leaving the “Rob and Russ Show.” He said the schedule — the show runs 6 a.m.-9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays — is tough to maintain since the birth of his daughter. But he has not ruled out a return to radio in another capacity. We’ll miss his radio show, but he’ll still be around as a KITV reporter and weekend anchor.

Greg McMackin and June Jones arrived safely in American Samoa, and are leading a mission that is providing medical supplies and footbal instruction. Burt Trembly offers these photos:
* * * * *
But, of course, the real fun was with the blog readers — at the Tropics party last night, and then the birthday celebration for Midori7.
* * * * *
And while I’m name-dropping, Kimo Kahoano was there. His son, Haku, a former UH player, is now Dr. Haku Kahoano. He’s a military doctor overseas.
* * * * *
Also at Tropics were Michael Smith, UH’s new grad assistant, and Mike Pettine, the New York Jets’ defensive coordinator. And, of course, Wayne Harada was there. OK, I’m done name-dropping for now.
Good morning Tsai-kos! You too ST! Good to see GM and JJ working together for a great cause.
Look like get planny potential future Warrior football players in the pictures…
Good luck to Coach Mack…
good morning Tsaikos,
good luck to the coaches in American Samoa and mahalo for taking the much needed supplies down there!
That is very cool of them. Looks like they got a good crowd.
Good Morning Tsaikos! Hope everyone has a good and safe weekend.
top 1o
Mission: Top Ten
Great turnout. Great cause….
Great job!
Boy someone was up early….

Good morning to all!
Great to see the photos! That is a really impressive turnout.

mw stumbles out of the gate with a bogey.
dj . . .
Please check your e-mail.
Good morning to all!
Heading northward.
Coach Mac sure keeps busy. I think his relentless schedule will pay dividends. We’ve already seen it with the camps — 10 recruits for 2010 and counting. I don’t think it is too early to say he was a good hire.
Aloha Kakahiaka, Tsaikos!
Great to see the coaches & ex-players in Samoa. Mahalo for taking over the medical supplies.
Esme & out….
Top twenty!
MAC – go get ’em!
AL: What’s happening on WEdnesday?
To JJ, GM, Mrs Reinbold, others in Samoa…Extraordinary !!!
Mahalo.
Great pictures for a great mission.
Looks like Wie will do her standard nose dive in a 3rd round, come back strong on Sunday with nothing on the line to finish back of the pack and then say “Couple of bad shots, some putts did not fall and I played great”.
qualifying is the problem.
Warrior incoming recruit Joey Iosefa from Samoa must be at that meeting. I hope Joey will also be instrumental in getting other top players to matriculate to Manoa.
willie, agree with you, but she should just listen to her sponsor “JUST DO IT”.
Wow! I didn’t realize Wena was in a pageant!
….oh… wait…. 😳
never mind.
While I’m name-dropping, Kimo Kahoano was the MC. So I had him talk to Wena on the phone. He sang:
Kimo and the crew sucking up the brew
pulehu meat smoking on the side
All the surfers are a-droppin’
while the highschool are a-poppin’
down Kaluakaua for a ride.
It’s Aloha Friday, no work ’til Monday.
Doo be doo, doo doo be, doo be doo be doo be doo!
Eh, you sumbuddy, ah?!?!
Heard there’s some 7 on 7 in Manoa this morning.
michelle wie is 3 over thru 16, t21 overall, 4 under total in round 3
jiyai shin leads at 15 under total currently
dean wilson was dq’d after round 2 of travelers
June looks like he’s getting old. Same goes for all the guys in the last picture—except addahknowjoe, I think he can kill me with his eyes. 😛
I guess this is the time I’m supposed to confess that Stretch, on a dare, asked Miss Hawaii to dance. I cut in.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest that there may be better ways to prospect for a free lunch at the next cattle call!
MW at +3 with one to go, 11 strokes back of the leader. she needs to hire a putting coach….
Good morning Tsai-kos!!
Great pics of the camps and the gang last night.
Just took puppy to the vet. 11.5 weeks old and 22 lbs! 😯
mw with 5 boggies on the front nine is out of contention…one more tournament to go to win to qualify for the U.S. Open, otherwise she sits out this year’s Open…new rules, only the top ten on the money list and winners of tournaments make it to the open…mw at 18 on the money list before today’s Wegman’s
Jiyai Shin has won 5 tournaments in the last 11 months, leads by 4 strokes….
Hey, it’s d1島, my young friend! 😉
Mission accomplished.
Section 309 behind (above?) UH bench, rows V and W, seats 1-10 in each. Less expensive than originally thought — $29/ticket (includes $5 Facility Fee). Similar to the Aloha Stadium Yellow section between the 40 yard lines.
Lower Bowl seats were on the 10 yard line and in the endzone.
$50 seats are all held/sold through UH.
Heads up: no bags larger than 12 x 12 x 12, food is okay to being in, no coolers/large bags/backpacks, no liquids.
Mr. Tsai . . .
Good placement of your right hand — for the photo, anyhow.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha!
Hey Stephen I noticed Pacific has signed a middle blocker from Serbia named Nikola Vukicevic, I hope that’s not the guy that was considering playing for UH? He looks like a good player.
dang, ST looks good and so does the other person!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that might be the middle blocker.
Damn Chicago just beat Chicago.
That sucks if he picked Pacific over Hawaii.
I hope Coach Wade will be brining in new middle blockers.
ST ~
I see you lowered your ears. Nice cut. You should change the blog pic & use your new haircut.
Wow. Where is everyone?
they must still be recovering from last night.
Re Tsukiji’s – Since no one answered my questions directly which were posted yesterday here on the blog and the information was not available on their website, here is what a staffer at the restaurant told me.
The cost is $18.95 and is paid at the conclusion of the meal. Tips are not included. There are some vegetarian items served which change from day to day. The buffet does have a variety of desserts.
A quick reminder about Tuesday evening’s fundraiser for the FALLS OF CLYDE. Great food, great door prizes & silent auction items, and a great cause. Tickets are $40 of which $20 is tax-deductible. Funds raised will be used to underwrite drydocking expenses to determine what needs to be done first to preserve and then restore the ship to its former glory.
For more information and to make reservations, send an e-mail to swoodathokudotcom.
ANYONE UP FOR A PRIVATE WATERFRONT PARTY IN DOWNTOWN HONOLULU FOR THE FIREWORKS ON FRIDAY, JULY 3?
In addition to its first fund-raiser this Tuesday, the Friends of Falls of Clyde will be holding a potluck bbq and fireworks viewing on Friday, July 3 on land next to the ship. People will start to gather around 5 pm and eat starting around 6:30 or so. The fireworks show sponsored by the Aloha Tower Marketplace will start shortly after 8:30 pm.
Parking and other info about what to bring will be out within the next day or two which I can then pass on to anyone who’s interested.
NOTE: This is a family-oriented function although people are welcome to bring beer or wine.
Please e-mail me if you’re interested in attending to swoodathokudotcom
Finally, DrDoc and I are once again hosting a Family Promise summer barbecue at Nu`uanu Congregational Church on Sunday, July 12, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. More details to come next week, but if you are a fan of church potlucks, then this is the place for you.
DD and I will be preparing three styles of barbecue chicken plus ribs. Everyone else is asked to bring pupu, salad, side dishes, or desserts for six people plus the number in your party.
Afterwards, perhaps some of you might want to go do some karaoke singing – there are several bars within a ten-minute drive.
A-Joe has the look of a man Possessed. Mr C, please contact the forsenic people at HPD to standby.
Stretch ~ Did A-Joe seem dazzeled by the young Miss Hawaii? Was he miffed because ST cut in on you? Did you have to haul him back to his casa again? Where was A-Sports?
I’m concerned.
Nice to see current and former coaches mixing good works with work.
ST-
Nice pics, looks like everyone had a good time. Looks like you took McGarret’s advice: ‘keep those hands up!’
Good evening all.
Nice pics of the Amer. Samoa mission. Glad you guys
had a good time last night at the party. : )
This may be off subject and maybe already posted by someone. Received an email from a friend re cell phones; Cell phone numbers will be made available to the public next month. If you dont wan’t to receive all those junk calls and ads and be charged for the calls, go the the national don’t call list: 1(888)382-1222 from your cell phone and it takes only a minute. Aloha gang.
ST – Sorry almost didn’t see you in that picture with Miss Hawaii, dayum she is gorgeous… 🙂 Nice haircut though

Very slow day, I’d say.
Too bad Rob deMello is leaving that show but good on him for choosing the Daddy Route.
Thanks anyway TYAiea. Wish you would post more! Hope all is well with you and the Mrs. See you in Vegas again?
Prayers go out to Koakane’s father-in-law in Hilo!
I hope that in these trying times, you can find the happiness in the memories of all the good times that you were able to share.

wafan:
Have a safe trip back to the island! Wish I could join the rest of the Tsaikos for the various upcoming functions, but alas, no can.

Rob25: Oh no….what happend???
Whatever it is, prayers sound needed…
Coming your way, koakane….Plenny of ‘um…
Good job, Rob Demello…

Good evening!
Congratulations go out to Raeceen Woolford…just crowned Miss Hawaii 2009!
raceen wolford is miss hawaii.
former na wahine wins!
was that her third attempt?
awesome that the scholarship money will go towards her doctorate in medicine.
Chawan_Cut, mahalo for the links to their other dances; it’s a fun way for them to help pass the (longggg) time.
Hi Al!
Don’t know the answer…I rarely pay attention to pageants but Shannon Dresser caught my attention then Raeceen.
Great start on the scholarship money…med school need a little bit more!
Get Well wishes to Koakane’s father in law….
JaM….. i watched the opening and then the final. we knew one girl from the valley a friend with #2.
last year wolford looked too buffed, this year she toned down her workouts and had a nice femine look about her. plus the girl can dance the hula.
okay, so raeceen moves to the top of the list best looking wahine.
what happened to kk’s dad in law?
Is Raeceen related to Ke’o, my favorite hula dancer from the Men of Na Kamalei?
I was at Ala Moana watching kung fu fighting. 🙂 I remember when there were ‘ulu trees in the park. We would bake an ‘ulu in the coals of our hibachi after cooking dinner. Thanks for the memories, Dad. Ah, the good ol’ days.
Congratulations to Raeceen Woolford!
Best wishes to koakane’s father-in-law.
Mrs. Momo really did a great job with the reunion celebration we had today. We had a big area at the Treetops restaurant–that was my first time there and I really liked the food. My younger daughter is already asking us when we can go back to there to eat…she really is a Tsaiko-in-training!
Article about how the twitter account that was supposedly from Bess is actually being done by an impostor.
Shawn Withy-Allen’s team was in first place just 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, they lost their last 3 games, not a great way to end the regular season. Their last two losses were to the Columbus Lions and they their next game will be on the road against that same team!
Warrior fans that go to the La Tech game this year will see that their football stadium has a new video scoreboard. I’d like for La Tech to continue their improvement, as that would improve the strength and respect of the WAC…it would be great for the conference if they could beat LSU this season!
TCU’s last couple of recruiting classes were VERY impressive, better than many BCS schools. Many highly rated recruits chose TCU over Texas A&M, Baylor, etc., and they specifically mentioned TCU’s indoor practice facility as a big factor in their decision. Now that indoor practice facility will have the AFC Champion practicing in it during Super Bowl week…that will happen around the time recruits sign their NLI!

Article examining why there were 3 million unfilled jobs in the US while 13 million are unemployed. Part of this seems to be due to a mismatch of skills, since the sectors with the most openings (education and health care) are very different from the ones that are losing the most workers, manufacturing and construction.
A big part of the problem is that a lot of people have lost jobs in the construction, finance, and retail areas and they lack the skills and training for jobs in the growing fields of education, accounting, health care, and government. The housing bust has left the unemployed frozen in place–they can’t move to get work because they can’t sell their homes.
In March it was forecast that the world airline industry would lose $4.7 billion this year, but in June they had to revise that to a prediction to $9 billion lost this year.
The recession has actually been good for ice cream sales, as Americans can afford to indulge with it. Häagen-Dazs is even looking to expand with 6 more franchises in Northern California in the next 18 months, taking advantage of increasing sales and cheaper real estate options. I never realized that ice cream first took off during the Great Depression.
Study found that we lose half of our close friends every 7 years, replacing them with other friends.

Back to work…have to finish an Industry overview and provide Market statistics before I go to sleep tonight.
Jason, I’m really sorry I cannot attend your lunch on Wednesday but we’re flying back to the mainland that day.
This is a very interesting website. I wish I had found it earlier. This information will definitely come in handy.
Good morning everyone!
Off to Seatac!
we were at tree tops on friday night. i’ve always liked their homestyle cooking. we almost had a blog bash there once.
Another *really* early offer from Mac!
Sadly, Ferd is correct that UH doesn’t have any better option than the WAC right now. The top half of the WAC is okay, so hopefully the bottom half will raise their budgets and improve their programs so that the WAC can move up in the conference rankings.
A few long runs in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament would bring significant money and respect to the WAC…
Al,
Given the food I had for brunch and the layout of the place, I think that Tree Tops would be great for a blog bash.
Pretty cool that there will be two freshmen football players at St. Louis that have offers from UH. That could help bond them together and have them eventually decide to both come to UH…the one who first decides to go to UH (given his family history I’d guess Kamalei) will definitely be a strong recruiting force for the other!
Either way, Kalani Brackenridge will not be part of the Warrior program this Fall. He’ll either grayshirt or sign with the Tampa Bay Rays. At least the coaches will know by August 17 because of the MLB deadline.
the kid correa is the real deal. he is already as big as his brothers and is in like 8 or 9th grade. my son plays with him. he is really gona be special.
gumbo,
Thank you for that insight! I’m sure that Kamalei will be very, very good by the time he finishes high school and I’m glad that UH is recruiting him hard now. Even though his Mom works for the Athletic Department and his brothers played/play for UH, there is no reason to take things for granted and the extra effort for recruiting him seems to be worth it.
I should have worded #100 differently–if Kalani grayshirts, he’s still part of the Warrior program. He just won’t get to play or practice until the Spring.
GARRET.. i dont write here much, but was lurking… but his kid is HUGE and a step above the rest…. dont know him or the bros, but have seen him with my son…. HE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh nah, they already offered Kamalei one schollie. One good thing about the Correa bloodline is they get nawts when they play. La’anui was a beast and had that mean streak about him. Have yet to see Haku banging heads but hopefully he’ll be in the rotation this year on the line. Getting offered a schollie by a DIV1 College gotta say something about their talent level. Good luck to Reeve and Kamalei at St. Louis and enjoy your high school years. These boys will have four years to be groomed at the high school level and get ready for akshon once they arive on the Warrior Campus. I can see both of them being monsters by the time they get to college…scary.
al,
wasn’t me. thank powderpuff. she linked it first and then i saw that they did a tribute one just recently.
Dang! You guys ALL still sleeping???
Morning, Tsai-ko ohana!
A-joe: LOVE that “look” in your eyes…..Kinda’ look like my reaction when C rM tries to tell me that Starbucks closed for the evening before he get my iced decaf venti no-whip mocha!!!
Great Morning All!
Summer Camps at UH yield another recruit.
A little birdie says that the good and bad news in Correa’s case is he was punking O-linemen much older than him but that included another recruit.
gumbo,
Thank you again for the report on Kamalei! As a parent of a player his age, you’d be around to watch him play…good to know he is a step above the rest.
d1shima,
Good to know that Kamalei is already that good…but unfortunate for that OL recruit.
