Miss you much
Reporters were standing around yesterday, debating an uncertain future. Yes, we’re all concerned about finding replacements for Adam Leonard, Dan Kelly, Ryan Mouton, Keao Monteilh, Keala Watson, Fale Laeli and … Dylan Linkner?
Since 2005, when Colt Brennan opened our eyes and our notebooks, the Hawai‘i media have been blessed with some of the most camera-friendly speakers. Princess Leila’s Cribs-styled video with Leonard a few years was an indication of the personalities behind the facemasks.
The past four years have been the Golden Age of quotes, notes and anecdotes. There have been so many articulate characters with great observations. Most of all, these players have had a lot of fun.
They will be missed.
* * *
We’re also going to miss the parents. Dan Kelly’s dad looks like Jon Lovitz, but is way funnier. Adam Leonard’s dad also has a great personality. Dane Porlas’ dad is Mr. Friendly. I’ve never met Solomon Elimimian’s dad in person, but we’ve had great telephone conversatons the past nine years. We’ll miss seeing Keao Monteilh’s dad at practic, and getting a daily joke from Dylan Linkner’s dad.
* * *
Well, no blood donors, so if you want onarock’s extra ticket, say: “I want it,” and you’re entered in the drawing. We’ll pull a name in the 4 o’clock hour, as they say in the biz.

Happy birthday to G-Nalo, ukuleleboi and Jim Leahey.
Numero Uno? Good Morning HAWAII!!
Wow. #2? 3#? #4? Top 5, at least.
Ain’t it awesome having a Chop Suey team?
Morning Chef,
Morning everyone.
We will definitely miss this group. These guys went through a lot. Especially these past 2 years and it couldn’t be more sweeter when we finish this season with a win against the Pussycats and whoever dare come to the islands for a Christmas Eve date with us. Let’s pray that everyone of these guys get PT tomorrow. Good Luck to all of them where ever they land because where ever you go, Hawaii will be in your heart and a part of our soul.
Big time Mahalo from the bottom of this Chef’s heart to the Warrior Senior Class of 2008. Mahalo!!
hope the OT’s are up to the challenge tomorrow night. bring your a-game boyz. what a great group of seniors we’ll be honoring tomorrow. would’ve been nice to see last year’s slots still around but it’s so good to see RGM succeeding in the CFL and of course Davone w/ the fish. Bruddah’s doing so well might have to put him in da starting fantasy lineup this weekend.
go warriors and mules!!!
top 10.

Good Morning All! I hope everyone has a wonderful Aloha Friday.
Continued prayers and thoughts to the Curveball Ohana
gee boss…you getting all melancholy today?
Next year, the Sugar Bowl stories told by the Juniors and Seniors will seem like a ‘tall tale’ of sorts as most did not really play in the game. The players will tell the tale… the newbies will ask..”Wow. Awesome. Did you get to play?” The story teller will say…”No, but I was there.”
Ohayogozaimasu Tsaiko-gumi!
Morning Tsaikos!
Thank you to all the players, esp the seniors, for your dedication & hard work!
GO WARRIORS!
We will miss all of the seniors…the past 3 years especially have been very successful and memorable. Two Hawaii Bowls and a Sugar Bowl bid is a nice 3-year run.
Before this season, Cincinnati had not won a conference title in 44 years!

ST- you got that right. We’ll really miss these guys! AND their family members. Beowulf comes to mind – and seeing Patek still on the sidelines was fantastic.
Adam Leonard’s parents were a treat to meet on the SB trip too.
BTW- are we Tsai-kos going to give some special little something to the Seniors?
I don’t have time to do the individual Google searches for players like I normally do daily. We have a short family trip today so I’ll check back with the blog Sunday night. I hope that the Warriors win and there are a lot of happy posts!
Aloha and Mahalo to all the seniors and their parents.
It’s always bittersweet this time of year, but alas, time waits for no one.
Here’s wishing the seniors and their loved ones all the best in the future.
Rob25,
Yes you may. 🙂
Garret,
Don’t worry. The Warriors are gonna do it on Saturday night. Their true colors will shine brightest as they bring down the Bearcats.

Good luck!
Best of luck to the seniors on the team in whatever they do after UH.

Wow I barely made it!
(J)J: I don’t care for chocolate. I eat it, but I never crave it and will pass more than take it.
LV: Yes, the A-Houses and I will be in Vegas about the same time…CC sounds good to me…let me know the time and place.
Kekoa: Thanks for the updates.
Curveball: You are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong and know that you have good people supporting your family.
Warrior Seniors: Thank you for all of your commitment to the team. It has been joyful to watch you mature and take control of this team during your tenure. May you continue to have success and happiness wherever life takes you.
LizK,
Massive fan support for their last two games in Warrior Green! *snf snf*
Everybody OK? There was an hour-long computer crash.
gnalo to ukuleleiboi-san,
otanjobi omedetoo gozaimasu!
huh? wha happen?
Help, I’m stuck under the crash debris !!! lol.
Morning/after noon Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister,
at least I know it wasn’t my computer. Feels weird not to be able to get on the blog. It’s almost like a wife locking you out of the house.
ST,
Very nice musings about all the parting players and people around them.
For us fans, every year it’s the same feeling of parents, seeing their kids go off to live their own lives. Almost every year we feel the same about the senior group leaving. This Year it seems more pronounced, because there are so many quality guys.
Hopefully the new groups coming in will live up to their legacy and take this thing to a higher level. We do have a great father figure in McMackin, he can do it.
i want it!
I want it!
I want it!
happy birthday G nalo…walk down to cabana A and join us for a short while…Stretch said he is to lazy to walk down-excuses of course since he drove down last time and could do it again
st……awhile back you said a surprise was in store. was that surprise revealed already?
and you mentioned that maybe a qb has now become available, is that still happening?
also, mack said he has two rb’s. we know now that “jumping” jack sula is one is there another still?
i know we can always use depth and more depth as this year’s list of injuries bore out its value.
…jus’ wonderin’ ?
So I guess the server couldn’t handle the Breaking News about OJ’s sentence?
Hmm…I wonder who the people in LA will scorn for the next 33 years?
Happy birthday g-nalo, the sanest one amongst Stretch’s cohorts, and ukuleleboi, who can play his ‘ukulele as fast as Garret speed reads!

I like the fact that many of the analysts see Hawaii’s defense as mediocre at best. Hopefully Cincy has swallowed this hook, line and sinker.
anybody figure out what hotel they are holed up in?
We’ll be dropping by the T-Gate relatively early (1 pm) to leave the recycling bin before heading off to another party in Aina Haina around 2 pm; we’ll return shortly before sunset. Unless the Triple Chocolate Cake is there before we leave, I am sure that it will be all gone by the time we get back.
Will be making my updated prize-winning Double-Frosted Boubon Brownies for the SHB T-Gate. I went with three different kinds of frosting when I made them last weekend and decided to keep the addition. FYI” The alcohol in the bourbon evapoates but the taste remains.
I want it!
I think we have some great defensive players, but the whole unit is still “middle of the pack”. They’re getting better, though, and I’m sure they will take some momentum from the Wazzu game and defend the aina.
Of all of the highlight films that I’ve watched of our potential recruits, Troy Evans is the most exciting player. Most of what I saw was him at RB.

Why do you keep changing the “menu board” or whatever it’s called?
Keep it simple and let us enjoy! Ask a graphic artist for help, create several layouts, and select the best and stick with it gunfunit!!!
Kristin Update:
Curveball reports that Kristin held steady thru the night and they are now dealing with a little fluid in her lungs. They had her on Kidney support for a time this morning as the day crew continues working on some alternate ways to make her more comfortable.
Meanwhile Curveball continues to read all the email msgs of support that have been sent to her. Tsaiko power…it’s a wonderful thing!
Continued prayers and wishes for Curveball, Kristen, and family.
Come to think of it, I really am going to miss these group of players and their families. It’s fun going to the road games and picking out the families of the players in the stands and even greater to see the happiness in their faces when their child/brother/cousin makes one spectacular play.
The current group of players will surely become one of their own in due time.
OK, my 2nd attempt to wish g’nalo and ukuleleiboi happy bifday!!!
Kristin, Curveball, and family – our continued prayers for a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you again at our tailgates!!
G’nalo and UkuleleBoi are birthdaying today? Whoa! Did Koakane already get the Hippo birdies to sing?
If not…Happy Birthday you 2 guys! Know this…you are in good company. My son Paul is 41 today.

MAHALO to all the Warrior Seniors!
Am really proud of what you have been able to accomplish. It all started when you made the decision to play for the Warriors.
We’ve had “some good times together, looking for the warmth of the sun.” We’ve been a long time together, but the best is yet to come!

By the way, I have always held the poition that the “private schools” have a significant advantage over “public schools” because they are NOT restricted by geographical “boundaries” when it comes to who attends the school.
Just imagine if T’eo, Hillard, Toma, etal played for the high school where they live rather than Punahou or St Louis or Iolani? What a difference it would make!!!

Ukuleleiboi –
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to a fine young man who has a promising future ahead of him. BTW, you have a really awesome Mom!
Al… Sofele looks like a player, too. I like the second half of his highlights better than the first since he shows what he can do when there’s some heat. Lots of recruits just show themselves running through huge holes or on a breakaway. This doesn’t really show us what a guy can do on the next level where defenders are faster, tackle better and the yards are harder to get.

What’s your guess? I’m no cheater-cheater-pumpkin eater, but I’ll make my guess after seeing yours. Got to respect a two-time, back-to-back contest winner. You go guy!…the prize shirt would look really nice on you.
Lingle is plenty much in the news lately.
Congrats to Te’o.
Seniors – choose the right door and don’t forget to graduate.
Anyone bringing their baseball gloves to the t-gate?
Nalani – see you tomorrow?
got the security popup too.
Is this the weekend we find out about the o-line recruit(s)?
Good afternoon Tsai-kos!
*burp* Just got back to the office from the office Christmas party at Waialae CC. Wow, da fuuud was ono. I don’t have to eat again till the t-gate tomorrow.
Hope to be there around 1-ish. Gotta do some errands in town and drop the kid off at Ala Moana for her service project, then drop my sis’s tix off at her house, since they’re party-poopers and no like come to da t-gate.
See you tomorrow jm####. did someone mention there’s going to be a wet t-shirt contest? DPK like enter.
Of interest to some Tsaikos–
On December 5, 1933: At 5:32 p.m. EST, Utah became the 36th state to ratify the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, repealing the 18th Amendment.
Congrats to Manti Te’o for receiving the Butkus award.
…and let’s not forget that Walt Disney was born on the 5th of December…hey SteveM could that be my birthday too? nope. 😆
Interesting that Utah ratified it while some moonshine states didn’t.
Wet t-shirt Contest?
Stretch can just show up in his Mr. Incredible suit!
a boatload of recruits are visiting this weekend…and during my lunchbreak, I saw a few players riding back to campus, probably from St. Louis so safe to guess that todays’ practice/walk-through was held there.
I think Utah saw the potential reveues…
Butkus?
I’d never say it to his face, but phonetically…. 😯
Aloha Tsaiko-land!
We’re going to the game tomorrow, our 2nd one ever! We may stop by the t-gate if my babe can get off work early.
We’re sitting in the Orange South endzone. Gotta wear white right?
Good luck Warriors! 🙂
Never met you Mr. Curveball but prayers to your ohana, especially Kristin.
lilmermaid,
White is right!
Sani Fuimaono of Punahou looks like a good player. Is UH secretly talking to him for the 2010 season?
lilmermaid – If your babe can’t get off work early just tell her to meet you at the t-gate. 😆
d1 – also his first name…Dick…never mind phonetically!
d1: And you can wear the jersey that you won. 😀
The birthday boys have a big range in age!
ukuleleboi…teens
g-nalo…50’s
Leahey…???
Aloha peeps,
Anyone got a video feed for the Wahine Vs. Belmont?
homey, cannot ‘koz he driving! Oh yeah, my “babe” is a guy. 🙂
All i could find was an audio link and this:
http://www.ncaa.com/gametracker/brackets/2008/ncaa_bracket_DI_wvolley.html?&partner=ncaa&
Thought I would go look at Gametracker on the Wahine Volleyball matchup tonight.
It’s two hours before the game and Hawaii has “No season stats available for this team.” While Belmont’s is up. Which side goofed up?
http://www.ncaa.com/gametracker/launch/gt_wvolley.html?event=749972&school=ncaa&sport=wvolley&camefrom=&startschool=&
lilmermaid – OOPS!!! um, sorry for thinking you were gay… my bad… sorry… I make the same mistake with (J)J too…
Mahalo, m-homey! I dunno if I can drink that much… usually 2 bottles is planny! Mebbe HeinekinHealer might try some 😉
curveball- I am seeing Kristin’s beautiful face in my mind and have been praying for your contentment with His Will. You are immersed in an ocean of love and nothing can harm you!
How amazing – Tsai-ko power.
A couple of watermelons and some chili pepper water ago we had not yet met. And then you won a ticket to the Warriors game!
Now you have a family that is closer than some blood relations can be. This is the way the whole world will be someday. We are the lucky ones to experience aloha in our lifetimes.
GO WARRIORS!
XxFaithxX – It’s on 1420…I think. I wonder if it will be on Jasontv?
homey,
Pops Leahey said on the radio this morning it’s his 66th B-day,
G’nalo, on the other hand, will probably vehemently deny that he’s 50-something.
Ukuleleboi (btw-Happy Birthday!) will probably, in the right circumstance, try to claim that he is in his early 20’s 😉
Wahine leads early 3-1
XxFaithxX: – mahalo for the Wahine link!

Jason,
That jersey is real old school nylon mesh…no “give” when you putting ’em on. I wouldn’t even try to put that on now!

It’s a quiet game…no fans?
Happy birthday to Jim Leahy! (USF grad!)
d1 – I’m not picky.

Wow!, regarding Ball State-Buffalo game…..
Any of you Lo- cal tsaiko’s going to the volleyball game tomorrow? It’s at the Galen center on the usc campus. Tickets are only $10 each and all seating will be general ( first come, first served). Who the Wahine play is still to be determined. I’ll be there with the family and hope to see some fellow tsaiko’s there.
I just read through this thread (after watching the Wahine Volleyball, Live) and noticed that some of you might not know that you can watch the Wahine Volleyball sub-regional matches “Live” from NCAA_TV online-stream (CBSsports.com).
If this link (“click here”) doesn’t work, click on my online name. Scroll to the bottom and click… “Watch Live”.
You just need to install the MS Silverlight 2.0 player when prompted… if it’s not already installed.
USC is playing “Live”, right now… San Diego won the first set.

*****If anyone didn’t read my late night post last night*****
ST and everyone else interested in UH’s recruiting:
My Co-worker just told me last night that he’s gonna be sending over highlight tapes of his son(s) to UH. They’re known as the Carr brothers, out of Oak Grove High School (11-1) in San Jose, Ca. Oak Grove’s season ended last week in the CCS Semifinals, losing to Valley Christian (10-2) 23-20. Omari is a RB and his twin brother Jabari is a DB. From what he was telling me, Jabari has been getting letters from PAC-10 schools, not too sure about Omari. Google them or look them up on scouting websites… Either one of them, of not both of them, would be a good catch for Hawaii…
*Update: Omari went under the radar due to an injury his Junior year. They both were asked to move up to Varsity their Sophomore years but only Jabari went up. If Omari went up, he would have had to play behind solid starter Nick Gardner for 2 years.
[Omari Carr – 5′9 170, averaged 176.8 yards per game, 11.31 yards per carry, scored 29 TDs.]
Omari piled up all of his stats in 11 1/2 games this season. He sustained a foot injury in 2nd qtr. of the CCS Open Div. Semifinal game. He hopes to be back for the All-Star game in July… Jabari is one of California’s best DB’s…

“San Jose (Calif.) Oak Grove safety Jabari Carr was the MVP of the Oakland UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine last weekend, with excellent testing numbers and a great performance in the drills and 1-on-1s.”
Here’s an article from earlier this season:

PAPA LEAHEY: Your speech saying that we don’t have a life… lively enough to at least to wish you a Happy Birthday = and many more to come.
Go Mules!
Get plenny Pun alumni on our cul-de-sac, but A-House ohana keeping the faith. Play hard, don’t give up and do what you need to do to keep Pun offense off the field.

Hi Liz!
What time do you get in tomorrow? Need a ride?
Can I still get the ticket??
Re-post from the other day!!
As some of you know awhile back I started a project called “University of Hawaii Sports History” it was intended to cover the history of all of the sport programs of the university from the beginning to now. Well during the last blog strike I kind of got distracted, but now I am back at work on the project. I have long thought that there should be a website that you could go to an find out information on all the previous sports program of UH, sad to say there wasn’t any, there are a few sites that have bits and pieces but none that covers all the teams.
This is a huge undertaking that will more than likely never get completely done, but at least it’s a beginning.
There are two major disadvantages in doing this project, first being here in West Virginia and two being on dial-up (the dial-up is the worst), I have created two site’s the first is the actual history website and the other is a forum where I hope to gather any information that others may want to share about past teams and athletes. I am also working on a “Where are they Now page” for all of the athletes who played for the University.
I will be re-posting this comment every few days so that all on the blog members will see it (that is if ST doesn’t mind?) and possibly share what ever they know.
Right now I have been working on the football team of 1978 and the Wahine Volleyball team of 1976.
1978 team
This page is not completely done but you can get an idea of what things will look like.
Chris Petersen took the Mississippi State job?
Looks like that site was wrong.
Idaho TV station confirmed the offer but reported that Petersen denied he accepted the $9 mil offer.
Remember the parallels between how HF handled JJ’s contract and how Texas Tech’s AD handled Mike Leach’s contract? It turns out that the relationship is so bad that Mike Leach made it clear that he doesn’t want to talk to the AD while his contract is being negotiated!
The Army-Navy game will look very different this year!
Sorry that didn’t work !!!

Long Beach Poly was down 10-0 in their playoff game, but they came back to win 20-10.
d1shima,
I saw your post…my family is fine. We are just on a short family trip for fun. We were out until 3 hours past my kid’s bedtime, so everyone is pretty exhausted now.
Ball State made things a lot more comfortable for the BCS powers-that-be. One less undefeated team left out of the BCS…
Got to sleep soon, so I’ll post just a few free play links. Please ignore my next few posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff.
Amazing new technique developed by Cornell researchers uses cow poop (which is available in LARGE quantities today!) to remove toxic hydrogen sulfide from biogas.
It is sad how the Coast Guard cutters have deteriorated so significantly due to underfunding and poor management.
Woman is in critical condition because her husband accidentally shot her *while they were having sex*. He’s assaulted her before, so police are questioning whether or not this was actually an accident.
Free play links pau.
Would it be advisable to give Stephen Tsai a call this late at night?
Anyone knows?

RE #204…i wonder if lois reads this blog????
Re 249 – I hope not!
hahahahaha…..best laugh of the week!!!!!
Before I head off to sleep:
Continued prayers and wishes for Kristin, Curveball, and family.
With Buffalo’s win over Ball State, the Bulls accepted an invitation to play in the International Bowl in Toronto. To be able to play in a bowl game located less than two hours away must be great for their fans, as this will be their first bowl game since moving up to 1-A (FBS). Congrats to their program on a successful season! I suggest they hurry up in extending Turner Gill’s contract before bigger fish come to take him away.
Curveball hang in there…..you’ve got to be strong and energized- your energy will transfer to Kristin and it really will lift her spirits…The Tsaikos have both of you in their thoughts every moment of the day..
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Curveball,
my best to you and prayers for your wife Kristin!
Ukuleleboi, GNalo, Pops Leahey,
happy birthday y’all. ukuleleboi, your mom is da bomb!!!!!!!
grow up and be classy like her. amen.
It was a very packed stadium tonight. Mauka side was for Ratfird fans in the early game. Leilehua took over after.
Iolani & Punawho shared the makai toilets. The fans cheered loudly for each worthy play, and they exploded when a sparkling defensive play was made.
My EIS pahtna estimated the crowd to be 35,000 strong, give or take a BudLite.
Time to say my prayers and get some rest. I pray the Lord watch over Kristin and keep her in his holy grace. Curveball, you are her rock. Continue to be there for her. We are here for you. Good night.
Gnite kekoa. see you this afternoon.
Go Curveball!!! Go Kristin!!!!!!!!

badly need your help. You have to have funny faces and words, you can’t just have words. It is a powerful thing, and I think that’s why it’s hard for people to imagine that women can do that, be that powerful.
I am from Ukraine and learning to write in English, please tell me whether I wrote the following sentence: “And you can do it any time of the day or night, which makes this a great business to start part time.”
Thank 🙁 Raimund.
