Since the final whistle sounded on a 1-11 season, defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer, linebackers coach Tony Tuioti and tight ends coach Phil Rauscher were not retained. Two weeks ago, running back coach Chris Wiesehan resigned to coach the offensive line at Temple.

An app called Hula that helps you get tested for STDs. The owner doesn’t think the name is offensive to Hawaiians. There is also a change.org petition for this.

Mac was a decent guy and did leave a couple of good people for Coach Chow.
There wasn’t much time to assemble the 2012 class and most of the 2014 recruits have yet to arrive, so the composition of the team is pretty unique.

Even though I’m still pretty young, I’ve noticed that I have a hard time staying awake during movies. I always seem to miss the ending.

Do they do something in airplanes during takeoff? I usually fall asleep during the safety instructions — seat cushions are still flotation devices, right? — and then wake up an hour into the flight. Always.
I still think Graham can prove himself. He started the year with a questionable o-line at the time, inexperienced receivers and young running backs without Iosefa.

On the other hand, I usually check in TWB around 6:30 or so only because the ^*())% cat decides to use me as a diving board several times around that time – only for her to go back on the bed and sleep!

What happened to Ben Dew?
The starting spots on boths sides of the line should be upperclassmen dominated. Because of the lack of upperclassmen depth on both lines in 2012-2013, UH struggled. That negative should hopefully turn to a positive since UH will have a bunch of 3-year starters this year. Experience and knowledge can defeat slightly superior talent at the college level.
If UH gets better O-line play, the offense will be good, regardless who wins the starting QB job. I do like how Wynn was calling the games in the later part of the year. The offense had more flow to it and the stats back it up.

8… UH has made the moves in needed to make. No way you can keep the same defensive staff after reviewing the defense’s performance last year. Now we have to wait to see if the new hires were good ones. I like Klune’s resume. Gouveia appears to be big upgrade over Tuioti. Moses seems more like a last minute fill plucked from Chow’s available circle.
As long as Moses can improve the RBs blitz pickup, that’s the big thing he has to teach. Lakalaka, Wily, and St Juste were very shaky at picking up the extra/free pass rushers. Lakalaka was probably the best of the freshmen at doing this but it was inconsistent as most freshmen RBs are. Freshmen RBs aren’t used to blocking as they almost always have the ball in their hands while they were the star players in high school. Iosefa is pretty good at it, but can always improve, especially if he has pro aspirations.
i am envisioning a new and improved lakalaka. new found dedication to the training regimen will result in bringing back the ” boom”.!!!!
35-FUHA. I totally agree with you. I think my biases aside, as a freshmen, playing corner and the RB blitz pickup are the biggest transitions a player can see.
First the defensive schematics are exponentially more difficult to ascertain at the college level. Second, most of the RBs coming out of HS are their respective teams best athlete, not necessarily so in college, where there are just straight-out physical beast playing outside linebacker. Three, the speed of the game is just on another level, if not several levels above the HS game. And finally, most have not done it before, that is to say, stick your nose in the face of a guy 6-4 and 240 pounds coming at you with a 6-8 yard running headstart, coming off a stunt…takes a lot of want to…..
I thought Iuta Tepa had another year of eligibility. I think he only played one year after transferring to UH.

I think the 2014 Hawaii Football team overall will be improved as far as the young men growing up since 2012 when Chow took over. I suspect we will be pleased with the maturity and effort that the players will put forth as a team, win or lose. Hopefully, the new and old coaches, along with the talented young men can get more wins than losses though.

there have been occasions where I wake up when the wheel touches the ground or more likely, hits the ground

couple months ago, heard a rumor that Hawaiian will switch from Airbus to 777 with single row down the middle with 3 seats on each side
seems so many employees and other eligible “free riders” take up so many seats that the flight to Vegas in a money loser – then, why not change the eligibility rules to only 1 free trip every 6 months – ooopppps, forgot that Hawaiian has to ask the union first!
Re: Airplane seats. In an effort to lighten their load, and hence, improve fuel economy, airline seats have undergone a diet of sorts. The seat cushions are indeed thinner, and much less comfortable. I’m thinking of bringing my own cushion for my tush for my next long flight in June.

Island Air orders new planes

Island Air plans to add new turboprop planes to its fleet as part of an ongoing restructuring and expansion strategy, the company announced Monday.
The interisland carrier said it has ordered two 71-seat Bombardier Aerospace Q400 NextGen aircraft, and could later expand the order with up to four more planes.
The purchase of the two initial planes is valued at $60.9 million based on Bombardier’s list price for the Q400.
Island Air and Canada-based Bombardier did not announce a delivery date for the new planes.

Go!, the upstart low-cost airline that entered the Hawaii market with a fare war and then endured a turbulent ride during its eight years of existence, will slow to a stop Monday night — six years to the day that Aloha Airlines also ceased service.
The last scheduled flight leaves Hilo at 8:45 p.m. and is scheduled to arrive at Honolulu Airport at 9:37 p.m.
No formal celebration or wake is planned.

perhaps Ellison is looking, mid-range, to challenge Hawaiian Air for local travel – much to look forward to provided seat pricing is affordable – say, maybe $20 than Hawaiian less one way and other discounts if family members included
much like Aloha Stadium – UHAD would rather keep the ticket prices same, but less than half full stadium – wonder how much profit Aloha Stadium makes off UH games since it sits empty 357 days if UH has an 8 home game schedule.
only other event there is the “swap meet” and the SA is reluctant to increase admission and vendor prices
and that’s the main reason for advocating daily use of the “new” on-campus stadium – if one is ever built – parking, restaurants, stores, events, etc.

Noticed two kickers missing from the roster and a new one, Aaron Novoa, who I never heard of…Didn’t they recruit a combo kicker/punter who redshirted last year??? We gotta get better in this area especially with Hadden being so inconsistent. Also, we can’t rely on Harding being a punter, as he could get hurt, and we need him to concentrate on his receiving duties.
We need the Super Ferry to come back…We can’t just depend on airlines and should have known that from Iniki, when all flights were cancelled. Whatever happened to Abercrombie’s promise to bring the ferry back??? I never forgave the Sierra Club for their opposition of the Superferry and eventually, shooting it down. They never considered the “greater good” and could have kept the ferry going through arbitration…
I’m also hoping that Southwest or Alaska airlines enters the interisland market…Hawaiian hasn’t learned and it is gauging the locals with their high fares…
Sorry FUHA & Boo but I have respectfully disagree with your assessment that Coach Gouveia is a step up over Coach Tony. IMHO, Coach T is a proven recruiter and although Coach G had much success as a player, there is no track record established yet. I’ve always said just because you played the game well doesn’t mean you can coach it.
I’m sure there are many who need makeovers in Manoa.

59–Warrior Dave, that may be true, however, sometimes coaching football is like poker; no matter how good you are, you can’t hide a pair of twos. Now, I am not saying it would have been better with Kurt, but I can see the rationale behind his dismissal. The defense was ridden rough-shod, and there is no other way to put it in more delicate terms. It is one of those situations, where it is at once unfair, but understandable.
Anyone, who has coached for a length of time, will see the ax a couple of times, at least, in their career. That said, while not every guy who played on Sundays, will make a great coach, there is a long list of guys, from Tom Landry to Mike Ditka, to Dan Reeves to Jack Del Rio. So, I am very comfortable with Kurt and wish his the best….

A-House — I doubt Ellison is planning to challenge Hawaiian Air, although he certainly could if HA irritated him somehow. My uniformed guess is that he bought Island Air to ensure that the tourists for his island have a steady means of transport. He would not be at the mercy of HA and smaller carriers for Lanai to be a tourist destination.
Perhaps Ellison is just ensuring that Island Air stays viable. On the other side, HA will be kindly in services to Lanai and not wake a sleeping giant?

Larry Ellison is a shrewd businessman. I’m sure he’s having his people do a due deligent study and if the numbers are right, a new inter island airline will appear under a old familiar name.
my 2 pennies. lanai has a lot of needs, but transportation is at the top of the list. this is both air and sea. why own two hotels if you can’t get your clients there on time, so that has top priority. another is the lack of sea transportation and being at the mercy of young brothers. once a week service ain’t going cut the mustard. the owner is trying to expand agriculture, but without adequate transportation his people are limited. hawaiian air has already shafted lanai once, so i don’t think their entry back is a big deal. the one thing to watch is how much pressure they put on the legislature to build another longer runway. that is when things will get more interesting on lanai.
as for the lanai school kids that need to travel, i think mr ellison will come through for them.
@ 51 A – House , employees and “free riders” – whatever those are – are never a problem because any revenue passenger would get a seat before ANY non revenue passenger.
Like I mentioned on another forum, 0-7 start if they play the same way.

us free riders pay a nominal surcharge/tax for other than interisland flights.
it is on a space available basis only.
hawaiian is not losing money on the las vegas flights. they apparently are doing a great job running such a volatile business.
but then there is a question of why do you work for the airlines when the pay is low level??? basically for flying privileges which I have no problems with. these employees bust their okoles to make the company look good and take the everyday abuse from the passengers, so getting a ride now and then is small.
but doubleb did not tell about the adventure you will have when you fly employee or friend stanby, which is how they travel, unless they buy a ticket. it may sound good, but until you try it. It can get downright baaaaaad. you have no reserved seat, you are at the mercy of the amount of paying passengers, your qualifying status lacks clout, etc. most will think it looks easy, but try traveling standby and see how far it gets you.
and the last thing, neva let hawaiian airlines bs you about not making money on any route.

Joe Uglietto is still in school, but is not participating in spring ball. Not sure what his future is.
I’m not sure about Bubba Poueu-Luna. I was told he had decided to retire from football to focus on school. But 15 minutes after I was told that, I saw Bubba, and he was working out in unsupervised drills. He’s not on the spring roster, but I’m not sure if that means he’ll be coming back for the summer or not.
Norm Chow. How often is he on campus? He seems to spend more time on the mainland than Gib Arnold.
I’ll be pretty bummed out if Bubba’s no longer on the team. That kid has play making explosiveness. I sure was hoping to see more of him this year.

He didn’t have enough credits to transfer at mid-year. So he had to sign a new letter of intent, which he did.
ummm . . . not sure that I’ve ever witnessed a flight attendant “taking abuse.” I’ve seen my share of them that are quick with sass and attitude. Don’t get me wrong, I have encountered many nice ones.

Well, then again it is probably a completely different story for flight attendants in the higher paying “classes” on an airplane. That is probably a pretty demanding environment.
