Big thanks to wideout Malcolm Lane for being today’s guest on the Warrior Beat Show. Lane came out of sick bed to appear. We appreciate it.

Defensive back JoPierre Davis, who is on suspension following his March arrest on assault charges, worked out yesterday. He remains on scholarship and is allowed to attend classes, but he is not on the team’s 120-player active roster.

Best wishes to Ian (Ronnie’s son), who is graduating tonight.

Hey, I received this e-mail from a friend yesterday:
According to new law that goes into effect July 1, 2009 you will no longer be able to use a cell phone while driving unless you have a ‘hands free’ adapter.
I went to Best Buy and they wanted $50 for a headset with a microphone for my cell phone. Having a friend in the cell phone business, I talked with him and was able to come up with an alternative, working through Office Depot.
These kits are compatible with any mobile phone and one size fits all. I paid him $0.08 each because he bought in quantity.
Then we tried it with Motorola, Sprint, Verizon and Nokia units and they worked perfectly.
A photo is attached so scroll down & take a look and let me know if you want one.
Also, forward this to anyone you know, who has a cell phone, and who may want one!

  22. whitey June 9, 2009 6:51 am

Malcolm Lane, thanks for being a Warrior. How often do you work out on the JUGS???

  23. Rob25 June 9, 2009 6:55 am

Funny thing, last night I watched highlights of us beating Fresno last year, in Fresno. Yes, I am “jonesing” for football! I watched it for like 45 minutes…only to watch UH score or get a turnover. Too bad my DVR didn’t capture the whole game….grrrr.

That was a beautiful throw and catch, Funaki to Lane. Inoke put that ball right on the money in between to defenders. Ahh the memories of Ronnie and I going ape…crazy. To win among the Fresno State faithful was a sight to behold. It felt surreal, but made that long drive worth every minute.

  24. Rob25 June 9, 2009 7:00 am

Off to work…no furlough for me today!! 👿

I wonder if Stretch is getting his butt handed to him by two teenagers yet.

  29. Loa June 9, 2009 7:04 am

    Question for Malcom –

where’s your favorite place to pig out on local food?

  30. Loa June 9, 2009 7:05 am

Stretch – no worries, at least get the 19th hole

  31. Stephen Tsai June 9, 2009 7:10 am

    Note to show’s moderators:
Malcolm is allowed to mention his favorite foods, but not eating establishments. That would be considered an endorsement, and student-athletes are not allowed to endorse products.

  32. Rob25 June 9, 2009 7:11 am

Play-by-play announcer: What do you mean?
Blog host: I DVR’d “King of Queens” on Saturday, and when I played it back, the LaTech game was on.
Play-by-play announcer: But you saw it, right?

    Re-Malcolm Lane

    Malcolm Lane 24 (# of KR) 635 (Yrds.) 26.5 (Avg.) 0 (td.) 91 (long)

Looking at Malcolm’s kick returning stats from last season. As a team the Warriors average 20.4 yards per kickoff return.

    Other returners:

    Mouton 24/21.4
    Taylor 9/14.9

    Preseason recognition:

Phil Steele rated Malcom as the 12 th best kick returner coming back.

    As a receiver:

    Started 13 of 14 games
    35 receptions, Avg.-17.5
    6 TD

    #89

    6-1, 180 SR

    Personal Observations:

Always liked him. Seems to be a different bred of athlete. Has a burst of speed like a rocket. Don’t understand what the coaching staff was thinking by only starting him at kick returner in the last 6 games of last season, where the season before as a sophomore he averaged nearly 30 yards per return.

  64. HarlandPepper June 9, 2009 8:27 am

Don’t worry. I know a lot of people reading this blog had the same concerns I did so I took it upon myself and called Office Depot. And the answer is a resounding “YES”, the portable cell phone carriers do come in BOTH left and right ear mounts. Rejoice.

  65. Colomaohana June 9, 2009 8:29 am

    Re-Manti Te’o as a chat guest

To hear talk about how some viewers only want to see Warrior athletes on the show as opposed to someone like Manti Te’o is ridiculous. It’s touches the line of idiotic. The most revered, coveted player in Hawaii state football history, a once in a life phenomenal, a player that could have been drafted into the NFL out of high school–you reserve space, you open the door for him, you open your hearts for him. At least that’s the way I feel on this. To the ones in the Manti Te’o camp I don’t know what these people are thinking.

  70. koakane™ June 9, 2009 8:44 am

    Bwauahahahahaha….

  74. BG June 9, 2009 9:13 am

Thanks for coming on the show, Malcom!

    1. What’s your favorite route? And why?
    2. Do you find yourself getting tired on long drives (esp after a couple of deep routes)? Do you think getting a break for a couple of plays every so often would help keep your legs fresh?
    3. You saw Bess’ tremendous block on the db when he peeled back to help out Ryan (?). Just laid him out! Do you ever want a chance to do that?

  75. PowderPuff June 9, 2009 9:13 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!

Wishing a beautiful un-muggy day to everyone.

    ST-

…about the cell phone headset…I’ve sported that model before. I think its the 7-5/8″ model. Just ask LK. This was before my phone had its bluetooth capabilities. A word of advice for anyone wanting to purchase, if the salesperson tries to sell you any accessories with that…..go with it. You will especially need the forehead pad since it leaves a mean groove that lasts for a few hours.

    Kekoa-

    Saturday – pork and beans.

    Koakane-

Aftah today, you all pau awready?

    Rob25-

No worry, he call me “Auntay” too.

  79. July Jones June 9, 2009 9:25 am

Manti Teo drafted out of high school?… Your smoking
But should definately have him on the show

  80. Addahknowsports© June 9, 2009 9:26 am

Congratulations Ian! Our best wishes to you!

  81. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 9:26 am

    $0.08 ?
Does it come in a different color?
    And how much is s/h?

oh yeah.. can get gift wrap? 4 free?

  82. roysan16 June 9, 2009 9:33 am

    July Jones

Yep, roysan16 is smoking. But by saying that your exposing your ignorance because a national writer in a national publication alluded to this. You mustn’t think I’m a purveyor of unfounded facts or grass.

  83. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 9:33 am

MALCOLM LANE: What is the greatest fear you had to overcome to play football at a high level?

  84. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 9:34 am

Ahhh (j)james. no wonder you so cool.. you same same age as my daughter….

    Nice bio!
    😆

  85. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 9:38 am

    Roysan…

I can understand how you feel about Manti Te’o. And he would be a great guest on a blog — just not this blog. You see? I’m not sure I see him as a blog quest on the “Warrior” Beat. UH wasn’t even on his list of schools to consider. I’d rather give accolades to our own University athletes, staff, and those that contribute to the success of our various Warrior/Rainbow/Wahine programs.

  86. chawan_cut June 9, 2009 9:40 am

    Stephen,
I think we’re the Green, White (& now Black) (& thank goodness, no longer Silver) side…

  87. chawan_cut June 9, 2009 9:41 am

    oh yeah, Stephen,
please remind Sandee that I’m not eligible for the tickets (since i entered too many “..I wanna…” posts). please give them to another deserving individual.

  88. A-House June 9, 2009 9:43 am

    UH Athletic fees:

To bad that UH administration decided NOT to implement the “mandatory fee”. Article stated that 70% of students voted against the fee. OK, 70% of what? 100 students? 1,000? 10,000?

When they graduate and go out into the world and work, they are going to vote against the “union dues” or “maintenance fees” or “gas tax” or “property tax” or “sales tax” etc. Give me a break!!

Pres McClain, as your parting gift, implement a $25 pr semester athletic fee effective 8/15/09.

  89. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc June 9, 2009 9:46 am

The law is only applicable to O`ahu residents – and it’s one I don’t intend to observe.

Word on the street is that the Board of Regents will confirm Initials Greenwood tomorrow. Does anyone know what her full name is and why she doesn’t use them? .

Wonder how she and Virginia Hinshaw will get along?

Stephen: Any word on Atheltic Department cutbacks yet?

  90. MeiLing June 9, 2009 9:51 am

    JJ,

That was a great bio thingy. :)) Thanks for the link, Stretchy.

Question for Malcolm: What do you do to increase your stamina? Do you think the O-line would benefit from that?

  91. postmanke June 9, 2009 9:55 am

    madeinhawaii..

Will the same be said when he is consensus All American? Top 5 pick in the NFL draft? He is a great kid, one that any parent, teacher, coach, fan would be proud of. He will do many great things for Hawaii in Hawaii when it is all said and done. Be proud dont hold a grudge. Get him as a guest.

    Cheers!

  92. A-House June 9, 2009 9:55 am

    roysan16:

for me its simple, he chose to go elsewhere. it’s my opinion and i respect your 1st amendment right to call me an “idiot” – i may not like it but that’s your freedom of speech.

and I agree with MIH, i much prefer to listen to UH athletes and coaches.

  93. A-House June 9, 2009 10:04 am

    postmanke:

if he should make All-American, good for him and his proud family, but few, if any, will say that he is from HAWAI – most likely, they will say he went to Notre Dame – same goes for mainland players who played for the Wariors and went on to the NFL – sports announcers will say he went to Hawaii, not he grew up in California.

if he enjoys the successes you allude to, i’m not sure that he will ever return to Hawaii to work – for that matter, how many “high profile” Hawaii athletes have gone to the mainland, enjoyed success, and returned home to plant their roots? They may “visit”, but will always go back to their “new” home.

  94. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 10:05 am

    Postmanke,

When he does all that and comes back and gives back to the local community in a way that might have a positive effect on UH athletics, as did a handful of other ‘great’ athletes from Hawaii such as Joe Onosai and the late Pio Sagapolutele, then sure, have him as a guest on the Warrior Beat.

Manti Te’o is at the threshold of possible greatness. The mantle is there but he still hasn’t earned it. We’ll see in 8-12 years. I can wait. Meanwhile, we got some other Qbacks and receivers and those Aussie guys. Or even David Garness, coming from Alaska I wonder how it is for him to be in a virtual sauna day in and day out?

  95. Kekoa June 9, 2009 10:12 am

Sandee ~ Please don’t give the tickets to Homey. He left town last night to da mainland without giving me ample notice. I had arranged for him to get on all the rides at the State Fair that he was too short for, and he skipped town! Grrrr!

  96. Colomaohana June 9, 2009 10:14 am

    Kekoa: Bwauahahahahaha……niiiiiice…..

  97. postmanke June 9, 2009 10:16 am

Yeah, dont ever invite Kurt Gouveia as a guest. I’m still pissed he tackled Raphael Cherry short on the goal line for the go ahead score against BYU.

  98. (Jesse)James June 9, 2009 10:23 am

Mrs. C…try asking KK about the custodian one time…he will tell you stories…LMAO

  99. Kaimuki Kid June 9, 2009 10:25 am

Anyone know what is going on at AM 1500? No L&L yesterday and no Rob & Russ this morning….

  100. Kaimuki Kid June 9, 2009 10:27 am

I take part of that back I got up to early this morning to do a blood test to see if R&R was on,but no L&L yesterday for sure

  101. (Jesse)James June 9, 2009 10:28 am

Yeah..thanks for the link Stretch….I really appreciate it…MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  102. Kekoa June 9, 2009 10:30 am

I gotta put my devalued 2 cents in on the Manti discussion. There’s no doubt the boy can play fb. My question is, how well do you really know him? Do you consider him an honorable person?

I don’t think he measures up to our Warrior great ones in all the other traits that we value. That’s why I agree with #94 & #95.

  103. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 10:30 am

    Kaimuki Kid,

Blood test? Hope everything’s okay with you.

  104. postmanke June 9, 2009 10:38 am

    Kekoa,

Some Advertiser writers rave about this kid..

“Off the field, Te’o had a 3.5 grade-point average, did volunteer work with the Shriners’ Hospital, Head Start preschool, Hawai’i Food Bank and Special Olympics.
And yes, earned his Eagle Scout badge last November.”

A high school kid doing what?? really?? usually the ‘off the field stuff’ is negative like, aggravative assualt, graffiti, etc.. I like this kid!

Hey Liz…did you see that Colt is gonna be in town in July….along with Devon and Ryan…..

  107. Kazz June 9, 2009 10:47 am

Funny how we adore the publicized accomplishments of people hearlded as superstars or icons.

Yet the silent ones, our neighbors or people we pass in the street could have easily been good folks themselves. No one writes about these people and those same people don’t care to be known.

  108. Kazz June 9, 2009 10:49 am

    RE: AM 1500 KAPUTZZZZZZZZZ????

I think ASUH got to them too. No Hawaii Sporting News this off season???? 😯

    Seriously!!! WHAT’S HAPPENING??????????????/

  109. Kaimuki Kid June 9, 2009 10:52 am

Nah, Everything is ok just routine, going to the Doctor this Friday to
get my quarterly scoldings…lose weight, exercise more at least I don’t drink or smoke or take drugs….

  110. (Jesse)James June 9, 2009 10:52 am

Kazz…that is true…there are tons of people out there who do sooo much good but don’t get credit for it. They just do it for the good of doing it and remain obscured in anonymity (which is probably how most of them want it). That is the purest form of charity and I applaud every one of them. Society today just focuses on these so-called “superstars” of screen, stage, and fields…..which, although it can be entertaining, is not the reality of life.

  111. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 10:53 am

    Postmanke,

You would hope all kids did much of that. They don’t, but you’d hope so.

My kid had done a ton of volunteer work these past two school years with senior citizens and elementary kids. He’s also helped with exchange students from Japan. He can barely speak English and he’s on the school senate. All told he’s put in well over 400 hours of volunteer work. I hear only good things about him from the staff at his school but he comes home with a less than acceptable grade in any one subject and I am on his case. He’s lettered in a sport for three years, too. He may not have the athletic gifts of Manti, but he gives it the best he can.

BUT, I expect this from my kid. I don’t think that makes him special. It just makes him an ‘active’ part of the community.

  112. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 10:53 am

Now.. if we could get Colt, Davonne, and Ryan on as guests.. whoah!

  113. (Jesse)James June 9, 2009 10:55 am

Anyone see this Stan Van Gundy comment on the BCS….ha ha ha…gotta love it.

    Re-Manti Te’o as a chat guest

To hear talk about how some viewers only want to see Warrior athletes on the show as opposed to someone like Manti Te’o is ridiculous. It’s touches the line of idiotic…

    Well, I’m an idiot. 😎

  115. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:02 am

If Colt and Manti were in town at the same time and both were only available to do the show at the same day and time and were willing to sign autographs at a to be announced location on the show. Which of the two would you want on the show?

  116. postmanke June 9, 2009 11:12 am

    MIH..
    I would go with Colt..

what if you had Colt and Obama which would you have on the show? Wait Obama didnt go to UH, his roots are not to deep in Hawaii as well.. Would we ever deny Obama the chance to be a guest speaker on this blog? I guess some “idiots” would.. =)

  117. Kazz June 9, 2009 11:12 am

    Made,

Why would Colt McCoy be in Hawaii? 😉

  118. Kekoa June 9, 2009 11:16 am

postmanke ~ I respect your opinion. I have my reservations about certain very hearlded athletes who seem to have it all. Mainly that he passed on his opportunity to perhaps become a UH Hall of Famer. Time will tell. Let’s see what happens in 10 years.

  119. labrat June 9, 2009 11:16 am

Holly crap. I never knew I was getting a free hands-free device every morning with my paper.

    Malcom Lane

    Who is the fastest receiver?

Who is the leader on the receiver corp?

Who do you think will be the players to watch this season?

How is your family adjusting to Hawaii?

    Could you describe Malcom Lane?

    Not even a fair comparison.

Te’o or President Obama? C’mon now. Really? The President of the United States of America and a college football player? Really?

Let’s get back to the topic of football players. Colt Brennan or Manti Te’o.

Besides, it’s not an issue of “rejecting” someone to be a guest on the Warrior Beat Show, it’s a matter of what the majority would rather have more interest in watching.

  121. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:19 am

What would Obama be doing on a Sports Blog…? UNLESS he actually changes the BCS NC system and gets a playoff going that benefits UH, too.
Then, yes, he can have 30 minutes. Colt can come along, too. I believe the two have already met.

  122. Kazz June 9, 2009 11:20 am

My only thoughts on Manti Te’o:

Had Coach Mack been the head coach of UH football and recruiting as such when Manti was getting attention in his sophomore year in high school, UH would have had a shot.

  123. Stephen Tsai June 9, 2009 11:24 am

Malcolm Lane has a really bad cold, but he’s coming in today.

  124. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:26 am

    Maybe Kazz, maybe.

Now that he’s at Notre Dame, only time will tell if Manti was a big fish in small pond or a just another fish in the ocean. I wish him well and all the success he deserves.

Now.. when can we get Obama? We need 1 billion $ for our University.

  125. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:30 am

Hmm.. wonder how much is that document partially written and signed by Abraham Lincoln worth to lease to sell?

  126. Kekoa June 9, 2009 11:33 am

Good thing I still have my Swine Flu mask. I’ll put it on before I change over to the *Wai & Tsai Show!*

They come in a choice colors too!

  127. roysan16 June 9, 2009 11:33 am

So if you guys are so predisposed in your prejudices of only wanting UH athletes on the show then make your feeling known by enunciating that this show is segregated. I didn’t think it was. All I knew was that you guys were throwing Manti Te’o’s name around as a possible guest–and my opinion was that he surely should have been invited. Do I change my feelings because you guys are angered? Hell no. For I look at Manti as having no boundaries, and as someone that’s breaking the ice for others to follow in his footsteps. This is good for Hawaii (and as much as a fan for UH, I’m a fan of the State of Hawaii first and foremost.) Do I speak with a forked/evil tongue sometimes? Of course. But in a generalizing way, where it doesn’t specify an individual. When I convey in the statement, ” touches the line of idiot” it’s written with sarcasm and not with ill will.

  129. postmanke June 9, 2009 11:35 am

MIH, did Obama not spell out his bracket predictions on ESPN? Sports fanatic he is that guy.

    re: #86
So we are in agreement that this blog can give accolades to non UH athletes and is not solely for people or persons that contribute to the success of various Warrior/Rainbow/Wahine programs. ~ Good lets get Obama on the show!

  130. A-House June 9, 2009 11:37 am

    postmanke:

your #117 – we all know that Pres Obama was born and raised in Hawaii making him, IMHO, a LOCAL BOY.

it is also, IMHO, that his remark/comment why he shook hands with Pres Chavez, Pres Obama said, “it was common courtesy” – that is what being born and raised in Hawaii means to me – would have former Pres GW Bush made that comment? – I don’t think so!!!

  131. Kekoa June 9, 2009 11:40 am

  132. postmanke June 9, 2009 11:43 am

    A-House.. huh??

  133. Kazz June 9, 2009 11:43 am

Many non-UH athletes in professional sports occasionally get mentioned here on this blog.

The fact remains is that the majority of our interests remain with the Warriors and the Wahine we see in person every sports season.

Without shame, I can say that I have been reminded that not every local kid can play for Manoa, it’s impossible.

But that cannot detract from our connections to the student athletes that play for the home team.

There is a reason UH is the home team. We can go to the games in person, we see the student athletes in person, we can donate money for something that is right in our backyard, and of course when we turn on the TV we see “HAWAII” on the screen.

There is nothing wrong with going away, but there is equally nothing wrong with having a preference towards that which is in our own backyard.

  134. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:44 am

Have we ever had a highschool guest on the show?

Manti hasn’t even played, coached, or raised a dollar toward a down in college football.

    What could you ask him?

  135. Electronic Solitaire June 9, 2009 11:47 am

Now that is something I never knew. Blogs like this really add to our understanding.

  136. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:49 am

Oh wait.. we had Corey Nielson as a joint guest with Dana. So I take that back. Heart of a “UH Warrior,” that kid.

  137. postmanke June 9, 2009 11:50 am

MIH – nothing, you can ask him nothing..

  138. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 11:50 am

Hiya! I heard about Colt coming to Hawaii…yee ha! I “hate to bother him as one more fan to greet” but I would love to HELP with some project if that were possible. I think he knows “aunty Liz” is “one of my people” … that is really plenty for my “ego”
    😈

As for the WB show- I like people who are associated with UH in some form or another. Remember when I was all rah rah about Jordon Dizon? He was the highest-drafted Hawaii player two years ago and I yakked about him just to the edge (I hope) of irritating the blog host who reminded me that this blog is called The Warrior Beat.

So I feel like – hey- just chill a little if the kid is not going to UH – but it’s ok to a higher degree when the player is related to a Tsai-ko – like the purple people eaters 😎 or even my personal fave Abe – event tho he plays for a future competitor. 😆

So yeah- I want to hear about former UH players -especially those trying to make it at the next level- or coaches or people who will have an impact on UH sports directly or indirectly.

  139. A-House June 9, 2009 11:52 am

    roysan16:

your #128 – too often what we “intended or meant” in words and deeds are not received the same by others for whatever reason – perhaps the “tone” which accompanies the message is the reason why the receiver thinks otherwise – but, that’s the world we live in.

and, thank you for supporting the Warriors and our great State!!!

  140. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:54 am

    Aunty Liz,

“One of my people”…. is that Washingtononianese for ‘stalker’?
    😉

  141. postmanke June 9, 2009 11:55 am

    Hi Scott!

mih- I was getting trashed by an east coast talk show radio host when I tried to ask Colt a question on air. He said “that’s one of my people you are messing with”. What they call comedy on the east coast is called rude in Hawaii. 🙄

  147. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 11:59 am

    Kazz…

That’s because until Aunty Liz… no one who met them ever lived to tell anyone else.

  149. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 12:01 pm

    Liz…

I was listening when they kept hanging up on you.. LOL
They did appologize later. AND Colt certainly did win the respect of those two as well as the DJ after not to mention to female interns there.

  150. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 12:02 pm

ST- how about reviving the Tsai-ko Bios??? ❓

  151. FloridaTed June 9, 2009 12:03 pm

I’m confused with all this Manti Teo fuzz.

Up to now I’ve always thaught this was the “Warrior Beat”? We have so many, high quality, athletes at U.H as good examples to our youth, I really don’t see a reason to give an athlete, who never gave us the time of day (his perogative), a special facetime with Warriorfans, unless, off course, we’ve become the “Irish beat”. Comparing Obama to Manti is also quite amusing.

    Roysan16,

I’m rooting for Hawaii also, but my admiration goes to the ones who put Hawaii first. Manti will be playing with a lot of other Mantis, his greatness will reveal itself or not.

  152. SteveM June 9, 2009 12:05 pm

  155. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 12:10 pm

    ❓ ❓ 😮 I just realized why #144 was funny 😳

Man, I AM old and pathetic…

  156. postmanke June 9, 2009 12:12 pm

FT – Comparing Manti to Obama was never intended. it was more, if there was ever a choice in guest chats, would a non UH athlete, direct contributor or whatever ever make the cut as a guest speaker. And the answer was ‘Yes’ we would make certain exceptions if they were the president of the United States of America. =)

  157. Loa June 9, 2009 12:13 pm

LizK – i still no get’em, oh well, not the first time 😆

We’ll be starting the live show in a few minutes

  163. Kekoa June 9, 2009 12:22 pm

Liz ~ PPE was one of those golden oldie comedy songs that pirated the AM radio waves of the early sixties. It was an insane era of goofy stuff.

Those radio jerks weren’t funny at all. They were rude to Liz to the very end. Their ‘apology’ didn’t sound very sincere at all, and they kept yuckin’ it up in the background. I say we send the Tsaikettes en force to teach them a lesson and punctuate it with *Da Lead Slippah* right across da mout!

  164. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 12:22 pm

    Re: the purple people eaters..

I believe it was Sammy Davis Jr. who ventured into the then famous Brown Derby restaurant in the 60’s with certain members of the Rat Pack and was told by the staff there …”I’m sorry, but we don’t serve your kind, here.” And Sammy Davis Jr. without dropping a beat, looked up, smiled and said, “That’s fine with me, I don’t eat em.”

  165. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 12:25 pm

  188. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 12:54 pm

    Malcolm,

In 2006 you had 120 yards … in 2007 you had 270, in 2008 you had 613. Each year you improved by 225%.

Should we expect the same this year? 1379+ ?

Do you feel like you are healthier, stronger, better than your past years?

  189. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 12:55 pm

    Liz,

I know!! Inoke! Now I’m really stoked about the coming season. I want to see Funaki shine, as well as everyone else on the team.

  190. Ralph June 9, 2009 12:57 pm

Stephen looks a lot bigger than Malcolm!

  191. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 12:58 pm

If Timex was a sponsor of UH football, he’d be my choice for Timex player of the year… “Takes a beating and keeps on ticking.”

  192. Jack Flash June 9, 2009 1:00 pm

    Malcolm Lane-
How much talking goes on during games between members of opposing teams (trash or otherwise)? Especially when we play conference foes that you see every year?

  193. Kekoa June 9, 2009 1:04 pm

I surrender! No can watch anymore of this chop chae version of the WB show! Make me sea sick…where’s my bag?

  194. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 1:05 pm

    Malcolm,

For all those players sitting on the fence, deciding if Hawaii is the place to play football. What would you say to them?

  195. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 1:06 pm

    Don’t forget the tickets!

    Emily Sato! Da Winnah!

    (who is Emily Sato?)

  200. LizKauai [Unite and Conquer] June 9, 2009 1:20 pm

cruise so far is great. too cold to go outside often. food is good. eating a lot. keed and i had a mother/daughter massage this am. lobster dinner last night. 900 Hawaii people (about 1/3) on the cruise.
    stevem – was $100, so didn’t get.

gotta agree w/ mih & others – rather have a UH player then someone else on the Warrior Beat.

If you meet an eskimo near the glaciers who claims to have come from Noatak. Ask em if Tammy still works at the video store and if so, tell em “madeinhawaii” said ‘aloha.’ Lost contact 8 years ago.

Then I’ll know what a small, small world it truly is.

  205. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 1:47 pm

Then again.. she might remember me best as “Cupid’s Bartender.”

jm2375 (21) AWESOME!!! All that and blogging too!

  207. SteveM June 9, 2009 1:52 pm

Hi jm2375 — what do you think about the ship bowling lanes/night club compex? Just realized that your ship has this 3rd large lounge/night club venue. Too bad one of the ship’s best kept secrets was $100 — but shhhh… 🙂

chawan_cut — ship is the Norwegian Pearl, sailed Sunday from Seattle. There were several ships sailing on Sundays.

  208. A-House June 9, 2009 1:58 pm

    Hi jm2375:

hope you enjoyed Mendenhall (sp) glacier – saw it in July 2009 before we boarded our fishing boats to Shelter Island – stayed at Anchor Point Lodge for 6 days.

never realized that it would be constantly cold – even at 50 degrees, it was cold – kinda dumb of me cause the mountains are always covered in show or ice and the water is ice cold.

Also, never realized how small Juneau was – main drage must be all of 1.5 miles (at most).

  209. Stephen Tsai June 9, 2009 2:12 pm

Saw the A-House women cruising the neighborhood this morning.
About an hour later, one of our neighbors was walking her dog. OK, actually, taking him to the potty, which was actually the grass patch in front of our house.
I walk out, and the woman wants to move, but Fido is still relieving himself. So she pretends she doesn’t notice, and starts focusing on my UH parking pass on my dash.
When Rover was done, I said: “Does he feel better?”
By the way, no plastic bag.

  210. djmitcho June 9, 2009 2:15 pm

Good Afternoon Everybody! Dang it, I missed the show again. How come work is slow all day until its time for the Wai and Tsai show?

  211. Diogenes Sinope June 9, 2009 2:15 pm

We just came back from Alaska last night. Cruise began in Vancouver and we jumped ship at Skagway and went up the White Pass, through the gold rush towns in the Yukon (Whitehorse, Dawson City) and made our way up to Denali and then to Anchorage and back home (flight from there to Seattle and Honolulu).

Got to fill in SteveM on the particulars on that one.

And yes, you cannot see Russia from Juneau or Wasilla!

  212. SteveM June 9, 2009 2:29 pm

Diogenes Sinope — Welcome home! Hopefully we can have a lunch de-brief meeting with you and jm2375 when she returns–along with the other cruisers who shared tips with her last month. Heck, maybe we just have a Cattle Call… 😆

  213. (Jesse)James June 9, 2009 2:44 pm

Question for Malcolm: What do you do to increase your stamina? Do you think the O-line would benefit from that?

What are you growing in that garden of yours? Some kind of Asian herbal root perhaps? 😯 😆 😈

    D1,

That’s right. Slight Manti some more. You’ve of all is so predictable. Why don’t you go back and continue talking the stupid things you normally do.

Manti gave a speech at the banquet last Sunday that the MC, N. Everett, said was the most chicken speech he’s heard. This is what Manti bring to a video chat. But to you, D1, join all the other cynics and think that Manti doesn’t deserve welcoming here. Or a thank you for laying the ground work for other Hawaii High school athletes to follow.

  232. NYUH June 9, 2009 4:32 pm

If Manti Te’o wanted to be on the Warrior Beat, he should have signed with UH. No shame in going to Notre Dame, but why waste bandwidth that could go to one of our own excellent LBs.

You have to maintain standards or before you know it you will be giving out free tickets to a Pussycat Dolls concert.

I like his choice of “Choice” for his fa’rite route and the reason why he gave for “choicing” it. Shows good development of his understanding.

No apologies needed Leila. I thought that it was a great idea. I am a Manti Te’o fan. I am also a fan of the Beast, Abe M., and D1 #2. I support all of the young adults that choose to study and play sports beyond the high school level.

While Mr. Te’o may not be a Warrior, he is still the most publicized football player that has ever come out of the State of Hawaii. There are some fans, Tsaikos, and lurkers that would have enjoyed having him on your show. My 2 cents.

hopefully by everyone still showing any athlete that goes away the aloha and love we have for our team, that if they decide to return, it’ll be that much easier to come back.
Te’o does have to go on a mission. who knows what he’ll experience? who knows what he’ll feel like after? maybe he’ll miss the food and family and us, the fans.

  240. Kazz June 9, 2009 4:56 pm

    Chawan,

I didn’t know what you were talking about, but auwe…. 🙁

I don’t see why, and many can agree, Princess Leila needed to apologize for anything.

People are going to react to certain things either in a civil manner without personal attacks or not regardless. People are going to over-react and over-analyze no matter what. It’s no one’s fault.

  241. wafan June 9, 2009 5:03 pm

We can choose to agree or disagree with anything here. We should remember to do it in a civil manner without names, insults or insinuations.

  242. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 5:06 pm

    ST…

What was the mission (statement) behind the Warrior Beat section and the Warrior Beat Blog to begin with?

  243. Kazz June 9, 2009 5:08 pm

Whatever the case maybe… whatever people’s biases are….

    The fact remains:

There is nothing wrong with wanting to see a UH athlete or a non-UH athlete on the Warrior Beat Show.

There is nothing wrong with “WANTING” to see a UH athlete over a non-UH athlete on the Warrior Beat Show.

What’s wrong is singling out people for their biases considering those biases are hardly “harmful” and those biases are justified. “Justified” as in the amount of Koa Anuenue members here, former UH alumni, Na Koa members, etc…

As HEAVY UH supporters, one shouldn’t be surprised to expect we’d prefer a non-UH guest as opposed to a UH guest if a choice to the viewers were given.

Either way this has been much about nothing and if Manti Te’o or any other non-UH athlete is a guest on the Warrior Beat Show, people here will still submit questions and will still continue to watch.

  246. d1島 June 9, 2009 5:17 pm

Of course they can have whomever they want on the show. The question becomes how many will tune in? Today’s guest gave a very good interview and offered good insight that many Warrior fans might not otherwise know. It builds interest in Warrior football and maybe helps to sell a few more tickets to Warrior games.

We can all agree to support all Keiki o ka Aina when they choose to go away. Keep in mind though, for some the choices were a little more limited than for others: the Beast had one opportunity pulled out from under him and was fortunate to find another one; Abe is benefitting from scholastic scholarships; and me and Mrs. d1島 are filling out mortgage papers so #2 son can pursue his dream. Would any of them choose to play for Hawaii if given the opportunity of a full ride? Wacchu tink?
The other kid? Well, he had 100+ DI offers to choose from and chose to go to South Bend….good luck with that.

  249. wafan June 9, 2009 5:25 pm

    Kazz . . .

Correct. I should have been clearer about the word “insinuations”. The problem as someone already stated is that the typed word does not convey the minute body language and vocal clues so necessary when using sarcasm. Albeit the use of emoticons is an attempt to convey those visual and auditory clues.

  251. Garret June 9, 2009 5:37 pm

    roysan16,

I’m not going to say anything negative about Manti, he will represent Hawaii well in Notre Dame and beyond. It is unfortunate if any Hawaii fan would criticize the character of a player who chooses to play for a mainland school just because he didn’t pick the home team. If you were directing your post towards me, I wish you would have asked me for my reasons instead of calling my opinion idiotic.

These are the reasons why I preferred to hear from a Warrior player today:

    1. There are at most 52 Warrior Beat shows per year, and most shows have just 1 guest. It seems that less than half of the shows have a player–more often it is a coach (Mac, Nash, Coolen, Trap, etc.), JD, or a special guest (Amemiya, Curtis before the draft, etc.).

That means there are about 20 or 25 or so spots for players. However, some of those will be from basketball/volleyball/softball/etc., so we are down to 10 to 15 spots per year for Warrior players. That is far less than the number of starters or seniors, so many Warriors will never get a chance to be on the Warrior Beat show.

The show that ST and the Princess put on is unique and gives a nice spotlight on their guests. It is something that their family and friends in Hawaii and elsewhere will love to see (I’ll bet there were a lot of viewers from Georgia when Spencer Smith was the guest!). Someone like Malcolm who has friends in Europe and whose parents have friends in and out of the military all over the world that will get to see him speak and represent himself and his family well.

There are a LOT of worthy guests for the WB show. Manti would be a great guest as would many others, but so few Warrior players get to be on the Warrior Beat show that I’m happy every time one of them gets to be on.

    2. This is a critical recruiting time, as camps are about to begin for UH and all colleges are working very hard to try to get momentum for their recruiting classes. This period is especially critical for UH as teams across the country are starting to get to double-digits in commits and the camps gives the UH coaches a chance to get a series of commits–commits often come in bunches because committed players try to sway other recruit’s minds (and there are no NCAA rules to prevent that, recruits can contact other recruits as much as they want but coaches have a lot of limits).

At this period of time, I think it is great to have a Warrior player on the show to help shine the spotlight a little more on the UH program. I’d rather not give that spotlight to Notre Dame right now. If we were in a dead period for recruiting, then I’d feel differently about that. Notre Dame got 2 players from Hawaii in their last class and I’m guessing they will want to go after more…having a local player talk about why he picked them during this active recruiting period could be a big help to them.

    3. There are 120+ Warrior players and I’d bet most of them would love to be on the show, and I bet all of their families would love it. Players from the mainland or Samoa would get to be watched back home and players from Hawaii would love to represent their state and school on the show. But if there are just 10 or 15 spots for them, most will never be on the show and giving a spot to a player for another school is a big percentage of the available guest spots!

I *never* said that Manti would be a bad guest for the show. I did say that I like it when Warrior players get to be on the show, and I’ve explained my reasons for that. You can dismiss this as idiotic if you wish.

  252. Garret June 9, 2009 5:39 pm

Congratulations to Ian on his graduation! Welding is an excellent career and I’m sure that he and Ronnie will be happy once he’s making money!

    (J)J,

Excellent bio on Esme’s site! I enjoyed reading it and learned a few great things that I hadn’t known before.

  254. Garret June 9, 2009 5:45 pm

    Princess,

You do NOT need to apologize for suggesting Manti. I do agree that he would have been a good guest for the show and you probably would have had increased viewership due to all the Notre Dame fans that would watch the show…and there are more Notre Dame fans than the entire population of Hawaii!

I have my personal preferences, but others have other preferences. Your suggestion was reasonable and I’m sure that Manti would have been an excellent guest based on all the other inteviews I’ve seen/read with him.

  255. Garret June 9, 2009 5:45 pm

Miami’s GM spotlighted Bess as a player he expects to have a big season.

Which young players are ready to break out? Ireland mentioned receivers Davone Bess (”no doubt ready to take it to another level”) and Ted Ginn Jr. (he’s ”a different player,” he told WQAM last week).

  256. Garret June 9, 2009 5:47 pm

Jake Ingram and his competitor Hodel are still splitting the reps in practice. It appears that the starting job won’t be decided until training camp or possibly even the preseason games.

In other special teams news, punter Chris Hanson worked extensively with both new long snappers, Jake Ingram and Nathan Hodel. Both were smooth on their delivery with Hanson, who got in a lot of work on the day. In addition, Hanson served as the holder on all field goal attempts, getting in more work with Ingram and Hodel.

  257. Ralph June 9, 2009 5:50 pm

Cheers to Ian! I hope you like heights, imagine being on a girder on top of the San Francisco bay bridge repairing part of history….

  258. Garret June 9, 2009 5:52 pm

Bess praised Miami’s two rookie WRs.

Talked with Davone Bess last week about the rookie receivers, Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline, and here’s what he had to say when asked what impressed the most about them:

“I would say their will. They want to be good. I sat with them at lunch the other day and they were saying, ‘Once we get the mental point of it, we can play ball.’ That’s coming from two rookies, knowing they have to get the mental part first. A lot of rookies come in thinking they can just go off ability and just play. They’re way beyond that. They want to get the playbook down before they go off and start thinking they can just make plays. It’s good. They’re learning.”

  259. madeinhawaii June 9, 2009 5:56 pm

    Garret,

My feelings exactly on why the beat needs to focus on the athletes and coaches playing at home. Too often we complain about our teams and players not getting the respect they deserve. I think it’s great that the Warrior Beat is here to shine a little more light on them.

I don’t want to see that taken away from them, if at all possible. I’d like to keep it within the Warrior Ohana…that’s all.

These games here stick out the most!

Against Nevada Malcolm Lane had that awesome TD catch with less than 30 seconds left in the game to get to go-ahead TD to win. It poured like crazy that night and Greg Alexander had a break-out 2nd half that cemented his starting role as QB.

Against Washington the Rainbow Wahine came from being two games behind the lady Huskies to win in 5. I remember going to that game to ease the HORRIBLE pain of that road football game in Corvallis and it was worth it. I remember sitting across from SJ and Myki. Looked like SJ was gonna blow his lid off!!!! Amber Kaufman had like 12+ service aces that night… Oh what a night that was!

Against CS Northridge, the troubled Warrior Volleyball team upset the #2 team in the country at the time!

WHOOOO!!! I’m setting my calendar on my phone to remind me!!!

  264. FloridaTed June 9, 2009 6:20 pm

I don’t understand why roysan16 got so salty about Manti and even insulting.

I didn’t hear anybody putting down Manti, just voicing their preferences for a UH player on the Warrior beat. I thought it was a preference vote only, not a bone of contention.

For a regular Radio or TV Station to put on Manti, or have a write-up in the regular paper about him is completely appropriate and has been done more than enough, but we are the Warrior Beat and the majority wants to hear about Warriors and Wahines.

Manti belongs to the Irish fans for a while now, so, good luck to him.

Anyhow, Garett said it well in his (253) Roysan16 rebuttel, not much more to add.

I type so damned slow, by the time I’m posting the subject has moved on, lol.

  265. Kazz June 9, 2009 6:20 pm

Forgive me, I forgot to mention the Wahine Basketball game against Boise State.

Down by lord knows what at the half, the Wahine suck it up for Senior night, led by Keisha Kanekoa to win. It was emotional for the Wahine considering the BS brought on by former coach Jim Bolla.

Most interesting article from the Japan Times about Coach Mc and JD’s trip to Japan. They went there to not only look at fb, but all sports for UH including cheerleading. It seems they have learned a lot and will keep their relationships with Japan hs students and coaches going by inviting them to clinics and camps.

Florida fisherman caught an 8-foot-long missile in his longline and tied the missile to the top of his boat, keeping it there for the rest of the 14-day fishing trip. He brought the missile ashore and planned to keep the missile as a souvenir….but emergency officials called a bomb squad once he came ashore because it was a live air-to-air missile!

Study found that before students enter engineering schools they already have a stereotype of what an engineer should be from TV programs and other media. The stereotype is unfortunately counterproductive, like how students believe that if they cannot do a project alone they can’t consider themselves an expert engineer…even when they are assigned a group project and told to work with their group.

Ralph ~ My phone had a nervous breakdown today. Sorry I couldn’t get vm or text returned to you. I believe I have the problem you mentioned solved tho.

Can’t wait to see Malcolm Lane take a couple footballs to the house. I bet if he were our permanent kick returner he could easily achieve 10+ TD’s this season with double duties. Although he still seems a little tweeny for my tastes I hope his hands are glue and he maintains focus when going up for the ball against DB’s.

    d1,

I get to see my classmate at the end of the month who went to Linfield, a looong time ago. Every time you write about Linfield, I remember hitch-hiking to Portland & going to visit Brenda at Linfield.

  294. Kekoa June 9, 2009 9:53 pm

Wow, the blog went off on the Manti Teo tangent. Too bad D-1 got dumped on for what me and others were actually stirring up before he made his statement. At first I thought, geez!…lead slippah’s could start flying my way.

Roysan16 ~ You didn’t mean all that stuff you said about one of the premier posters of the WB did you? Look at all the research material he just recently posted about our opponents. Look at all of the quick witted one liners he is famous for.

If you got to meet his sons, you would see that they are already giving back to their proud parents by being the best they can be. Both very fine athletes, scholars, and all around good guys.

Mr. & Mrs. D-1 support the schools and sports programs of their sons AND the UH foundation. They attended several graduations of other students (like our own Jason & Kelli). They support good citizenship.

They’ve supported the Tsaiko projects that have raised money for the UH sports teams, as well as those who needed a helping hand within our group. Each time I’ve ever called on them to help me with a project, they’ve been there.

See, if you take the time to really get to know people on this blog, you wouldn’t be so quick to say mean things about them. Nobody said anything demeaning to you today. All were opinions stated either for, or against this boy, being an invited guest on the WB program. Nobody called you any names, or questioned your intelligence…but you did. Why?

I think you owe D-1 an apology. Oh, and btw, please don’t shoot, I’m only the piano player! I ask that you treat others with civility, they have.

    Mahalo,
    Kekoa

  295. roysan16 June 9, 2009 10:00 pm

    Garret,

I read your point of views. And all it tells me are your fears and downsides of how Manti Te’os potential presence on the show detracts from the Warriors. Did you ever stop and think of the upside? Here’s an Hawaii athlete that comes along once every 100 years with such greatness and this blog can’t show any latitude, love or desire to having him on as a guest…yes, it is ridiculous. It’s even snowballed into a mockery. It certainly would’ve been a nice warm gesture on the WB to send off with a nice Aloha–but you guys see otherwise.

  296. MeiLing June 9, 2009 10:00 pm

Better stop writing…and just watch the Na Hoku awards. Bad grammar, mis-spelling…ugh! Night all!

    Kekoa,

I shoulda called you. I got lost looking for Target today in your part of the ‘country’.

  297. Pauoa Boy June 9, 2009 10:03 pm

The Warrior Beat Show is great and I agree should focus more on the players, coaches, and people affiliated with the Warrior program instead of others. Nothing against having a Manti Te’o or any former Hawaii high school athlete on the show but maybe Wes Nakama or somebody else could create a show focusing on former hawaii high school athletes who chose to go elsewhere. I’m pretty sure a lot of the local sports fans would love to hear about locally grown athletes who are out and about throughout the states making it big, etc… It would help with exposure of the type of athletes that we produce in the islands. It’s obvious we’re a hotspot for football players as more and more colleges have taken notice.

  298. roysan16 June 9, 2009 10:10 pm

    Kekoa,

    You I respect.

Any transgressions on part are intended. I don’t look back. All I know I’m incensed with how people look at Manti Te’o

  299. Stephen Tsai June 9, 2009 10:12 pm

    Re: Replays.
I think they can edit them down to a nice 2-hour or 90-minute window. No need go so long when the games were played so long ago.

  300. Pauoa Boy June 9, 2009 10:14 pm

    roysan16,

Howzit buleh, I don’t think any of us feel that Manti Te’o is not worthy of being on the Warrior Beat Show at all. He is a great athlete, with great morals, and from a great bloodline. As die hard Warrior fans we just feel like the show should tailor more towards our Warrior athletes and those affiliated with the Warrior program. Obviously ST and Leila can have whoever they want on the show. We just voicing our opinions that we’d just like to have more of our own home team guys as guests than other guys. Regardless, I think everyone here doesn’t mind hearing about former locally grown athletes who went elsewhere. But as far as the show goes, maybe can create another show that focuses on former hawaii high school athletes who are out and about throughout the states doing there thing. Just a thought.

  301. Stephen Tsai June 9, 2009 10:19 pm

I’d prefer to go with all UH players or coaches for the show.
Trouble is, we’re not able to go on the road. Heck, we have enough problems working out of the studio.
Anyway, by being stuck at the studio, and being locked into the lunchtime window, we don’t have many options. It’s tough to get players because they have classes. And we have to figure out ways (Tsai’s taxi?) to get them to the building.
And as you heard Malcolm say, I only asked him yesterday.
That’s another problem. I’d say more than half of our guests I had to invite the day before. We had other potential guests drop out.

  302. Stephen Tsai June 9, 2009 10:23 pm

    Liz — re: bios:
I was going to bring them back for the offseason, but when the pink side decided to start doing them, I figured it would be duplicating efforts, especially since it appears they want people from this side to do profiles.
But I’ve got some plans starting next wek that should rev up the action a little bit. Stay tuned.

  303. Pauoa Boy June 9, 2009 10:23 pm

    Pauoa Boy,

Howzit. Thank you for your service to our country. Best wishes to your family and new born baby girl. I hope alls well. Maybe some other time the topic will be pleasant and there’d be no division of opinions. I know I’m in the minority here, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Good night.

PB, thanks for taking the time to share with us your thoughts of the day. you take care.

  307. Pauoa Boy June 9, 2009 10:42 pm

    roysan16,

Nah no worries it’s good discussion seeing things from all angles and perspectives. Das why even though I myself am biased towards different things I learn planny from everybody here on the WB. I enjoy the mixture of minds, young and old and the talk about football for the most part although planny other off topic subjects arise. It’s good to have debates about stuff, keeps the subject matter interesting when you look at the whole picture and both sides of the spectrum. Plus, it’s good knowledge to have and it allows you to keep and open mind. Last it’s not a bad thing to have different opinions, cause as you can see it’s for a good read if anything else…peace.

  308. whitey June 9, 2009 10:42 pm

the warrior beat show with Tsai & Wai is very unique. Not only do they have to do their everyday journalism job, but they have to put on a tv show. Both of them know how to perservere and willing to do more because they are professionals. I truly appreciate that.

  309. whitey June 9, 2009 10:45 pm

see you all in the morning.

If all else fails, remember you got Mr. C right there at the Kapolei PD station.

    Mei Ling: Hello 9-1-1.

9-1-1 Opr: What is your emergency.

Mei Ling: I’m trying to find Kapolei Target store. Is Mr. C there?

9-1-1 Opr: Sorry that’s not an emergency! (about to hangup)…

Mei Ling: Well, can you connect me with Stephen Tsai’s taxi service at the Honolu Advertiser?

ST ~ Please check your email for an important note about this weekend…and as your official bearer of not so good news, I have this to share.

Mrs. Koakane will be admitted to Pali Momi Hospital for surgery on her knee in the morning. KK says that she will be in for about 4 days. If all goes as planned, she is due out early Saturday morning.

Prayers for her successful surgery and speedy recovery.

Thanks, Kekoa : ) Mrs. Koakane, I hope that all goes very smooth for you.

There are two things you never want to see made — laws and sausages. So why in the world did they just show how frankfurters are made on Unwrapped? I don’t think I’ll ever eat a hot dog again. 🙁

  319. Jason June 9, 2009 11:44 pm

I guess now we could ask James to expand on his bio by giving the behind-the-scenes scoop on making laws.

    Speaking of which:

    Jason:
I recall watching a show where they showed how various sausages were made (bratwurst, sausage, hot dogs, etc.). I don’t recall if it was some History Channel special or what, other than the fact that it was rather interesting…..still won’t stop me from eating it!

  321. Committed Road Warrior June 9, 2009 11:47 pm

Unfortunate that the “R” key on my keyboard stay stuck. Means you really gotta push down hard on it to type an “R” for anything.

Will probably take my keyboard out tomorrow and clean the insides.

  322. Jason June 9, 2009 11:49 pm

If I don’t think about it, maybe I’ll forget about it. 😀

Best wishes and prayers for Mrs. koakane as well.

  323. G (China) June 9, 2009 11:50 pm

    Off topic…

It seems like Floyd has resigned from USC due to the fact that there were of recent many recruits defecting in light of the recruiting violations. It seems to me that HI would be an attractive option for these recruits but then again since when does HI get blue chip players like that?

  324. G (China) June 9, 2009 11:52 pm

of course i’m assuming we still have two schollies left

  325. AWP June 9, 2009 11:55 pm

I’d like to put my 2cents in about guests for the WB. The one reason to have local kids who choose to go away for school is the ability to ask them tough questions. I’d like to ask all of them what it would take to keep them home to play for UH. It’s urgent for our coaches to know how to address the reasons why these stars choose to go away. Other schools are able to keep their State’s best home. Why can’t we? HiSchool football here develops some awesome talent. All UH teams need to address this issue. Attendance at games here is largely made up of friends and family supporters. Baseball, Softball, Vball, WBB and even football need that kind of local support. Thanks for letting me post.

  326. Kekoa June 10, 2009 12:05 am

PB ~ OBama is up to his neck now with the real day to day military operations. Now that he is in the CIC seat, it’s not as easy to sharpshoot. Everytime the balloon goes up in the ‘Green Zone’ Cdr’s better have answers huh?

All quiet for now in your AO?…good. For your sake, Frank’s and all the others, I hope we can make a safe withdrawal of our people. Logistically, I know it’s a near impossible task. I get the feeling that the country is not stable enough to consider anything as ambitious as that just yet. What’s your take?

  327. HiFlyer June 10, 2009 12:07 am

  328. Kekoa June 10, 2009 12:12 am

AWP ~ Good observation. Other states have a different problem for their homegrown. Too many choices in their state. California for instance. USC? UCLA? Stanford? CAL? SJS? and more! Yet, we manage to steal some from them every now and again.

    Kekoa,
That is true we still don’t have the warm and fuzzy these guys can function without our presence felt. We know better than to just up and leave with them guys lurking in the mist…waiting for an opportunity to pounce again. It’s obvious the CIC is getting quick time instruction at rapid rates and learning quickly what real time war means, especially with Afghan and now little ol North Korea trying to flex it’s little muscle. Sort of the reason I didn’t vote for someone who hasn’t been there or done that…
