Former UH safety Leroy Lutu Jr. put up impressive numbers at this past weekend’s NFL regional combine at the Seattle Seahawks’ training facility in Renton, Wash.
Here are his stats:
• Vertical jump: 42 inches
• Broad jump: 10 feet, 7 inches
• Pro-agility shuttle: 4.1 seconds
• 40-yard dash: 4.60 seconds
All of those marks were better than his numbers at last week’s pro day in San Diego. Timing and distance were likely factors in the difference. For pro day, Lutu took a 2 1/2-hour flight from Seattle to San Diego on the eve of the event. “It might have been a little tough on my body to try and acclimate,” Lutu said.
The regional combine was a 15-minute drive from his home. It started at 7 a.m. “I had a 5 a.m. wake-up,” Lutu said. “I left my house at 6:20. I had a cup of coffee on the way over.”
He added: “There was no waiting at this combine. It was boom, boom, boom.”
Lutu said there were several Seahawks at the facility. He said he met quarterback Russell Wilson.
Lutu will participate in the Seahawks’ tryout camp on April 3.
The NFL’s super regional combine is on April 7. E-vites will be sent on Friday.
“I’ve got my fingers crossed I’ll get an e-mail to go to the super regional,” Lutu said.

By the way, former UH volleyball player Joshua Walker and soccer player Tehane Higa did win the wedding-band contest by earning the most “likes” on Facebook.
Congratulations to the happy couple. And mahalo to all who voted.
