Warriors to Mountain West

An agreement in principle has been reached for the football Warriors to join the Mountain West starting in July 2012. Details still need to be worked out, but no snags are expected.

It also appears things are in motion for UH’s non-football sports to join the Big West. There’s a screening process, which might take some time, but the path has been set for UH to join.

Defensive end Calen Friel, a 2010 Kailua High graduate who signed a letter of commitment with UH is February, is grayshirting this semester and remains committed to joining the Warriors in January. He said he has met the NCAA’s eligibility requirements.

Until becoming full-time students, grayshirts are essentially free agents. UCLA and Louisville have tried to lure away Friel. But he reaffirmed his pledge to play for the Warriors. Friel also said he has fully recovered from a torn ACL and will participate in the Warriors’ offseason conditioning program in January.

One of the biggest fans of the Rainbow Warrior basketball team is a player who chose to leave the program to pursue a career with the Warrior football team.

“Obviously, I miss (basketball),” said Leroy Lutu Jr., who is redshirting as a safety this football season. “I’ve been playing (basketball) my whole life. The season just started, and I’ve watched some of the games. I’m going to miss it a little bit, but I missed football just as much, and I’m happy with my decision.”

Indeed, the future appears bright for Lutu, who was a walk-on in basketball. The football coaches have praised Lutu’s development, and he is expected to challenge for playing time in 2011. Safeties Mana Silva and Spencer Smith are seniors.

“I’m feeling great,” Lutu said. “My legs are coming back. I’m learning something new every day. I’ve been working with (associate head coach Rich) Miano, watching extra film, doing every footwork drill, getting into the weight room as much as I can.”

Avis has selected Tom Mui as the winner of the Rainbow Wahine World Series T-shirt. Text me at 256-0223, and I’ll drop it off after this morning’s practice.

And today’s contest involves the same prize. If you wish to enter, please post: Two days to pay dirt.

Avis will choose a winner.

Interesting move by the Big West. Was the door openned specifically for UH? If UH makes the move what recourse has the WAC? Do they cut their own throats and demand UH leave completely?

I think it is hard to say. These are the same WACy CEO’s who apparently love Benson.

Remember those battles between Leroy Lutu Sr. and John “Squeeze” Kamana. Watched those two kids go at it for four years, when Lutu played basketball for UHS, and Kamana played for Punahou. They were two of the better athletes to ever come out of the state of Hawaii.

Class of ’80. What a class. Kamehameha’s Kaulana Park went to Stanford, John Haina went to Cal, and Carter Kamana went to Michigan State. Punahou’s John Kamana went to USC, Pac-5’s Leroy Lutu went to Washington, Kaiser’s Boyd Yap went back to graduate from Kamehameha and then played football at UH-Manoa. Farrington’s Falaniko Noga wne to play football at UH-Manoa. Kamehameha had a wide receiver by the name of Billy Pimentel that walked on and played at Stanford with Park and John Elway.

Brought in Leroy Lutu Sr., Kaulana Park, and Michael Alo on recruiting trips to Hawaii on the same weekend. All three wanted to play together at Hawaii. All left Manoa saying that they were going to commit to play in Hawaii. Lutu’s dad said no way, you’re going to Washington. Park’s dad said, it’d be insane to turn down a free education to Stanford University. Michael Alo’s mom said her son needs to stay closer to home just up the road from Oceanside at USC.

Niko Noga turned down SC to stay and play in Hawaii. West Virginia would never be the same because of that decision. hahaha.

  44. Pride. November 18, 2010 4:01 am

Be interesting to watch Lutu’s progress. Appears to have unlimited potential.

  45. Pride. November 18, 2010 4:03 am

Sometimes what a person loves to do, may not neccesarily pay the bills. Lutu Jr. may love to play basketball. But someday, football may end up paying the bills.

  46. Pride. November 18, 2010 4:05 am

I heard that Shane Victorino loved playing football. But someone convinced him that baseball would end up paying the bills.

The California Public University system has been hit *hard* by budget cuts over the past few years, one major reason why schools like UC-Davis don’t have the money to move up to D-IA, why schools like Fresno State are scrambling for money, and why Cal had to cut so many sports.

Now the *Texas* Public University system is going to get hit even HARDER by budget cuts…which directly affects UTSA and TXST. The University of Houston is looking at a $105.7 million, for example. If these level of cuts had started any earlier, it is quite probable that UTSA and TXST would be relying on their donors just to stay afloat and would not have been able to move to D-IA.

The shift in Texas began more than a year ago, when all state agencies, including public colleges and universities, were asked to determine how they could return 5 percent of state funding for the 2010 and 2011 fiscal years. (The 2011 fiscal year started Sept. 1.) When state budget officials made the actual cuts, higher education had been disproportionately hit; although just 12.5 percent of the state budget goes to higher education, it accounted for 41 percent of the cuts.

But now, a 10 percent cut would almost be welcomed as good news.

With the state’s expected budget shortfall predicted to reach as much as $25 billion, that could double.

“It doesn’t look too good,” said John Antel, an economist and the top academic officer at UH. “If I had to guess, I’d say 20, 25 percent.”

  66. Buffoman November 18, 2010 7:08 am

Don’t know if anyone said this before so my apologies if I am repeating. If we wanted to feel what it is like to be Boise State, all we have to do is ask Dave Shoji. What he feels about playing volleyball in the WAC is probably what Boise feels about playing football in the WAC.

Think about it, UH Wahine volleyball is so dominating that the next closest team in the past 3 years struggles to get a game off them. When a team does according to the inferences in the article about the team, it’s because UH has a lapse in intensity; probably what happens when someone gets close to Boise.

So their jumping to get better competition is like Dave’s desire to play in the BW. More competition and possibly better seeding come tournament time.

UH football is to BSU as what NMSU volleyball is to Wahine volleyball.

    Sounds vaguely similar.

If UH stays in the WAC for football only, doesn’t it fill in the need for the WAC taking Denver in all sports except football? Makes sense to me. Maybe that’s why the WAC took Denver in the first place. Does Denver get any of the WAC’s football money what ever little the WAC makes?

Wahine VB will do better in the Big West, and the Big West would benefit from having the Wahine back, but the last time a non-BCS conference team won the championship was in 98. Since the last Wahine title in 87, Long Beach is the only team outside of the PAC10, current BIG12 and BIG10 to win the title.

In fact, since Long Beach last won in 98 the only non-BCS conference teams to make the final four have been Hawaii(4), Long Beach(2), Pacific(1) and Santa Clara(1). 1999 was the only year since at least 1993 where there was more than one team from a non-BCS conference (of course that pre-dates the BCS football system) with both Pacific and LBSU in the final four.

Since 1998 there have been three final fours that featured three of four teams being from the PAC10.

    Since 1999…

    Stanford has 7 appearances

USC has 5, as does Nebraska

Penn State has 4 (tied with Hawaii)

In the first 18 NCAA years (1981 – 1998) the Big West teams (Pacific, LBSU and Hawaii) won 8 titles. The Big 8/current Big 12 teams (Nebraska, Texas) won 2, and the PAC10 (UCLA, Stanford, USC) won 8. Since then the BIG10 (4), BIG12(2) and PAC10(5) have shut everyone else out.

The big school money has changed VB significantly in the past ten or so years. The Wahine success, despite not winning a championship since 1987, has been astonishing. It is really a credit to Dave Shoji and his program that he is able to compete year in and year out despite having a poorer athletic dept behind him and being in a weak VB conference.

  78. BG November 18, 2010 8:38 am

This was the article I posted yesterday about Benson specifically mentioning North Texas as the next target for the WAC. Benson said that if the WAC could add North Texas by 2012 then UTSA could avoid having to move up to D-IA until they are ready in 2013.

    http://www.kens5.com/sports/WACs-Benson-gives-high-marks-to-UTSA-Alamodome-city-during-visit–108792839.html

  85. Garret November 18, 2010 8:55 am

Here is a Q&A with Benson.

Any movement with UTSA’s entry date for football?

We still don’t know for sure what they will be doing in 2012, whether it’s a partial WAC schedule or a full WAC schedule. We still want to get a ninth football-playing school. If we do, that will take the pressure off UTSA. We’re doing that in general. My preference is a nine-team football league. And 10 would be even better.

Who could that ninth team be?

I would just say that we have talked with North Texas in the past, and I would guess that as we explore our options that they would be one that we contact. We have not had any contact yet. We have not had any contact with anyone. But we’ve had conversations with them in the past.

    http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/QA_with_WAC_commissioner_Karl_Benson_108871184.html

  86. Garret November 18, 2010 8:57 am

The Denton newspaper (North Texas is located in Denton, TX) responded to reader questions about North Texas’ interest in the WAC:

If UNT hasn’t made the jump after being approached as many times as it has already, I don’t see the school making the move now.

Hawaii has talked about going independent. Where would UNT be then?

The Sun Belt is a whole lot more stable. UNT would have a couple of Texas rivals in the WAC, but the school’s athletic program would essentially be saying out loud to everyone that it considers itself to be on the same level as UTSA and Texas State, a couple of teams moving up to the FBS ranks. UNT has been there for a long time.

    I just don’t see it.

  102. expat November 18, 2010 10:05 am

Of course if North Texas started playing Texas State and UTSA regularly they might start winning some games. Their last winning season was in 2004 and since then they have never won more than 3 games in a season. This year could be a banner year though — they have a chance to post 4 wins if they can beat up on 4-6 powerhouse Louisiana-Monroe.

For a team that hasn’t beaten another Texas team since 2006 (SMU) they kind of have big head.

Strangely enough they do not seem all that concerned with having in-state rivalries. Since 2002 the only public Texas school they have played is Texas. They have also played Rice, SMU, TCU and Baylor.

You would think they would be a good fit since NMSU, Idaho, and Utah State all played with North Texas in the Sun Belt (and LaTech is an alum as well). They had a good conference record against those three schools too. They know Denver from the Sunbelt as well.

I heard that Shane Victorino loved playing football. But someone convinced him that baseball would end up paying the bills.

i believe it was june jones who during the recruiting of shane victorino as a slotback/kr did suggest to the victorino’s that maybe he should pursue baseball because he was so good at it. but, if he wanted to play football the door was open.

Kyle, hearing anything about Ole Miss-BSU not happening in 2011. Some rumblings here in Boise.

    http://twitter.com/murphsturph

From what I’ve been reading, it appears that BSU is *not* going to be opening next season at Mississippi. Instead, BYU is going to open at Mississippi and get the $1 million payday.

ESPN is apparently throwing major money around to get BSU to open next season against *Georgia* in the NFL stadium in Atlanta (similar to how BSU opened against Virginia Tech in the NFL stadium in DC this season).

BSU would get a big payday for the Georgia game and get Mississippi in 2014 and 2015.

Hopefully UH gets some ESPN attention sometime to get some big payday games at NFL stadiums. However, if UH just wants home-and-home deals and continues to turn down payday games, then I guess it doesn’t matter even if ESPN put the money on the table.

    al,

That’s where UH has to focus for now… Australia and New Zealand… as well as Samoa and Tonga… any English speaking communities in the Pacific that might have NCAA/College qualified candidates that excel in a sport. We have to become the team of the Pacific Basin for everywhere West of the West Coast. We have to grab a share of their TV and radio market in doing so and package that as part of the UH Athletics branding.

mih…i communicated with an aussie in, well, australia recently and said american football player types are rare and few and further in between. they all have hawaii as a place to go for college though as we have had success with the aussie student/athletes in football, softball, baseball, and wbasketball.

they all seem to take the college experience seriously becoming not only hard working athletes but they excel in the classroom as well.

the “fish”, mark fisher, mbb operations manager will be pounding the sand in australia for future mbb candidates. so that is down the road from down under as well.

i would think that hawaii would be a natural for australians as well as other pacific islanders as you mentioned. similar climate, close proximity (okay, closer), direct air flts, same languages, the beach, and the like.

Careful, careful, very careful Slugger. We don’t want coach to close practices. Attend practice, support the boys. As much as everyone here wants a report, we don’t really need one. I know Tsaikos always ask for reports from practice, but like D1 said…tight lips.

When people ask, just act dumb. “I don’t know I was late.” “I’m not sure I couldn’t see.” “I don’t know who was injured or who wasn’t injured they all look the same to me.” “I’m not sure if it was a trick play or not, I don’t know that much about football, I’m still learning.” “Boy these glasses are bad, need to get them changed.”

  158. al November 18, 2010 12:53 pm

    go figure department…

so if a college’s goal is to further educate a young person and to prepare them for the future…then why do they make admissions so difficult?

in particular, shouldn’t a state college/university have a program (like we once did) that allows a resident underachiever admission to the institution?

back in the day there was the “head start” program that allowed many to become accepted to manoa even if their gpa/sat’s were subpar. i personally know a handful of those who took advantage of this program and today are still practicing law or in some kind of admirable career path. oh, and their were some athletes as well.

The International Federation of American Football has announced the coaching staff that will lead its World Team against Team USA at the annual ‘Team USA vs. The World’ event in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011.

The coaches represent a total of eight countries – Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Japan, Mexico and Sweden – and four continents from among the 59 countries governed by IFAF that play some form of American Football.

The annual international competition will feature a World Team of teenage football players also spanning as many as four continents playing against America’s Under-19 National Team, composed of current high school seniors (class of 2011). Both teams will field a 45-player roster.

The 2011 Team USA vs. The World game will be played at Austin’s Westlake High School’s Ebbie Neptune Field at Chaparral Stadium. In 2010 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the World Team showed that international players are able to compete on the gridiron against their counterparts from the United States, losing only 17-0 in a game saw USA held scoreless until the final play of the first half.

MIH makes a good point above, in that UH should really be spearheading the effort to assimilate student athletes to the American system of schooling, as well as offering certain basic courses (such as ESL), and a liaison between UH and those countries.

Al, I remember reading many years ago how UH had become harder to get into than many bigger mainland colleges because they stopped accepting students with a certain GPA or test score. It was a sports-related article, since I recall people complaining that we now had a harder time recruiting top athletes with lower academic scores, but yet, those athletes were more than welcome in the BigTen and SEC.

I wonder if any studies have been done to show if this was a positive move or not. I mean, when I watch “Jaywalking” on the Leno Show, I can’t believe those college students are seriously THAT dumb! I’m just glad they’ve never named UH as their present school! Although, I have heard some mention California schools, along with some from the midwest and deep south. That’s just got to be as embarassing as heck!

  184. ge November 18, 2010 1:44 pm

To all interested in UH and college football, please see the excellent feature article in Sports Illustrated, November 15, 2010 issue entitled “How (And Why) The BCS is Blocking What College Football Needs”.

According to the article all colleges are being victimized by the BCS and the Bowl operators, noting highers student fees, even at BCS schools. UH and the WAC is not the only victim.

  188. NCAA November 18, 2010 1:48 pm

    Mr. al,

It all starts in High school. For those that want to continue sports in college should begin mapping out their plan starting their freshmen year. At a minimum they should have Algebra II completed before they graduate. Many 4-year colleges have that as a prerequisite. We can’t be expecting colleges to lower their standards for a few. Like I mentioned before, there is the Community college route.

  189. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 1:51 pm

    NCAA…

we are talking international students… Japan doesn’t offer Algegra II.. they offer 1st year math.. 2nd year math.. 3rd year math.. 4th year math… 4th year is usually the same as college level Calculus II. First two years of Chemistry and Physics fall under general science, too. Most are well in advance of our high school offerings.

High schools in foreign countries are geared for their own colleges or trade schools. Their start and end schedules could be drastically different, too (starts in April, ends in March, in Japan.) In Australia, I believe they study by “levels,” with their studies already geared towards a college degree by the time they enter their Jr year in high school. There is very little room for classes outside of what has been predicated for them in order to finish their levels.

  194. NCAA November 18, 2010 1:56 pm

    We are recruiting in Japan?

Congrats to both Dani Mafua and Elizabeth Ka’aihue on approaching the end of their college careers.

It’s not easy to compete and stay on top of your game when you are the faces of a highly-regarded athletic program that faces national championship expectations on a regular basis.

I have compared the Rainbow Wahine volleyball program to the likes of “royalty” at UH because of their consistency, fan base, and overall support that comes with a consistently winning Top 10/Top 5 nationally ranked program.

May both continue their on court success this season as well as success in whatever endeavors they pursue after UH!!!

    MAHALO LADIES!!!

  199. al November 18, 2010 2:05 pm

  201. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 2:06 pm

Just a reminder.. this Thursday evening.. is Senior Night for the Wahine VB team.

  202. The reason why there is a multi-campus University of Hawai`i System including 7 community colleges and two four-year campuses in addition to the Manoa campus is to provide access to educational programs which help address student academic deficiencies. The Manoa campus needs to keep its admission requirements high.

Here is one small figure that I received in the mail the other day from the Regents’ office.

From July 1 through September 30, 2009, the University of Hawai`i System received $186,141,160 in external grants & soibsired awards (not taxpayer $$$). From July 1 through September 30, 2010, the System has received $251,548,333.

I do not have a breakdown as to what went to UH-Manoa and what went to the other campuses, but no matter what, this is money which is added to the state’s economy since probably 75% goes for salaries & benefits. I will check this out.

The Manoa campus generates incredibly high quality research in fields as diverse as ecotourism to finding the causes of premature senility – any volunteers here who want to get paid to donate their bodies & their remaining intellectual abilities to the research team?

Perhaps a reasonable compromise might be to allow O`ahu-based students to take both community college and Manoa classes in the same semester. This is NOT an issue I know anything about so please let me do some research on this.

  203. al November 18, 2010 2:14 pm

189…i guess we are discussing apples and oranges. no problem.

i am referring to admissions standards at uh and that is should be a little more relaxed. but, it is what it is.

surely, there is community college, but, the success rates for kids going to jc’s and then moving forward to a four year program is alarming. locally, our cc/jc do not offer athletic programs on top of that.

my point is also that if a kid can pass the ncaa clearinghouse minimum standards then he should be allowed to go the manoa campus or if he is a prop 48 guy/girl.

i am not here to pick a fight with you. all i am doing is making a point, whether i am right or wrong. who’s to come along and tell me what my point is when you are talking oranges while i am speaking of apples.

    …nuff said.

  204. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 2:15 pm

“apples and oranges… So, in the end.. we are all fruits.”

  205. al November 18, 2010 2:15 pm

btw…the alegebra II is a requirement of the ncaa clearinghouse standards. that along with other curriculum requirements, gpa, etc.

no pass the clearinghouse, no play.

he started out as a 230 lb defensive end.Pretty good genes on both sides of the family. Be interesting to see if Moses Samia would be able to put on that kind of weight also. I think for both of these kids, a very athletic 285 pounds would be big enough. Samia got great genes also.

  207. Pride. November 18, 2010 2:18 pm

#206 – yeah, yeah, yeah, Algebra 2. Use that everyday. Just like Calculus 2, 3, and 4.

  208. FINALLY!! The Marketing office at the University of Hawai`i Department of Athletics and its ticket office have finally announced their admission policy for tomorrow’s Triple Header at The Stan.

If you have tickets for the men’s basketball game at 7:30, you can also attend the JACK IN THE BOX RAINBOW WAHINE CLASSIC games at 3 pm and 5 pm without having to buy additional tickets.

HOWEVER, if you only have tickets for the two women’s basketball games, you must purchase another ticket for the men’s basketball game.

I don’t like this and have filed a request with Carl Clapp’s office to review this policy.

  209. al November 18, 2010 2:19 pm

ncaa…and you brought a good point. another sore spot for me, is that the public high schools fail in their efforts to “educate both parents and students” when it comes to curriculum requirements to get in a college.

a lot has to do with resources and understaffing. but, still the system fails because they don’t spend the time to educate in this regards.

one counselor for 300 kids doesn’t cut it.

i’ve first hand experience with this. fortunately, we were on track and had our kids qualify.

  210. Ipu Man November 18, 2010 2:21 pm

Would love to see coach Mac come out with the team

with his face painted like a Maori warrior…boy that would

    get ESPN attention…

  211. This doesn’t impact us personally as we have season tickets for both men’s & women’s basketball. However, I don’t like the difference in policy and feel that both men’s & women’s tickets should be honored.

  212. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 2:25 pm

The schools should have “Admission Requirement” posters up all over the place… In the lockers, in the math rooms.. cafeteria… etc.

  214. NCAA November 18, 2010 2:27 pm

    Mr. al,

Fortunately, local high schools are being proactive. Meetings are held in each sport season and counselors are present to inform students/parents of what is required for participation, graduation, and higher education.

In the past, this was not being done and many athletes with huge potential were being left to think, WTF.

I heard on good authority that Pride was going to have a hear-to-heart with Lady Chatterly about her many non-savoir faire affairs, when some Mad Women of Chaillot showed up, obviously enraged with unbridled jealousy and poisoned any attempt for a civil conversation. So the two went to Jane Austin to see if she could end all this nonsense exacerbated by unfounded Pride and Prejudice. But, unfortunately, Ms. Austin wasn’t available because she was away, rooting for her daughter who is apparently at Rutgers earning her Scarlet Letter.

  232. Pride. November 18, 2010 3:00 pm

Yes Al. I heard about Iolani’s Liloa Nobriga. I’m a big fan of Brian Cabral and have been following this story recently. I’ve always been a fan of Buffs football.

Interesting to note that the fans were worried about the new head coach having an all Poly linebacker corps, saying the coach was playing favorites. From what I heard is that Nobriga set the tone for the game with a tackle for loss on ISU’s first offensive series. Fans shut their mouths afterwards.

By the way, Damien’s Michael Sipili had a TFL, a sack, and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Kahuku’s BJ Beatty had a another sack.

Beatty had a big sack on the last play of the game against Georgia to save the win for the Buffs. Local boys are doing well.

  233. NCAA November 18, 2010 3:14 pm

    Mr. Pride,

Does that mean the former head coach was playing favorites?

  234. wafan November 18, 2010 3:19 pm

    Hi!

  235. Pride. November 18, 2010 3:31 pm

NCAA, sometimes people don’t understand local culture. Some local kids are quiet, and laid back. Some people mistake that for a non caring attitude, lazy, non assertive. Most local kids are not big rah, rah type of guys. They’re more of the, “I do my talking on the field type of guys”.

  236. wafan November 18, 2010 3:32 pm

Odd thing about the NCAA Clearing house. We offer a Math AMR (Advanced Mathematical Reasoning) class. It doesn’t meet the NCAA standards because it “(R)elies too heavily on teaching and expecting students master skills that reflect too realistically the issues and problems encountered in the real-world.” Huh? Heaven forbid we ever expect the kids to really be able to apply the theory in actual situations.

Anyhow, two girls who have D1 scholarship offers are now in jeopardy because their 4th year of math credit has been denied — more than one quarter into their senior year. And, yes, they did pass Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II with A’s. They were looking for a class where they could learn to balance their accounts, figure out finances, and the myriad of other everyday stuff.

Truly no clue at all how their decisions impact the kids.

  240. Okole Maluna November 18, 2010 3:41 pm

Hard to get star struck in Hawaii but back in the early 70’s still going to UH as a student.

I was shopping one late night at Safeway on Pensecola and King for my dinner and who is in the store? Jack Lord himself shopping with his wife with a suit and red tie, and said ‘good evening’ to ME, I can never forget that evening.

  241. Pride. November 18, 2010 3:44 pm

A good friend who played several years in the NFL said that, where ever you see an NFL team that has a local guy from Hawaii as a veteran, that local guy is the “bull” of the team. He said, don’t ask the media, you ask the players on the team, who is the most respected, toughest, guy on the team. 95% of the time, it’ll be the guy from Hawaii.

Bears – Kreutz(Fans listen to Urlacher, Urlacher bows down to Kreutz)

    Lions – Raiola

    Jags – Manuwai

    *Saints – Naeole

    *Patriots – Tatupu

    *Redskins – Lorch

    *Cowboys – Tuinei

    *Forty Niners – Sapolu

Could even extend that philosophy to some of the college teams.

The What A Catastrophe (WAC) will continue to meander down the path of misdirection, great chance for UH 🙂

  261. bb November 18, 2010 4:41 pm

    Im not holding my breath.

I remember what happened the day when the project blew up.

And who is to say that just how Fresno and Nevada stabbed our backs that they wouldnt do it AGAIN.

  262. d1島 November 18, 2010 4:41 pm

    Rrrrrrrrrriiiiiiippppp!!!

(the sound of the WAC patches coming of the unis)

  263. Stephen Tsai November 18, 2010 4:42 pm

Does the Beast now become a triple transfer?

  264. koakane™ November 18, 2010 4:44 pm

wow very interesting and puts a kink in our thinking as to what we need to do.

  265. wafan November 18, 2010 4:45 pm

Dang. Figured something was afoot after the BWC made their announcement the other day.

    ‘Atta way JD!

  266. postmanke November 18, 2010 4:47 pm

Win every Mountain West Conference game no matter what!

  267. d1島 November 18, 2010 4:47 pm

    Where’s TCU going?

  268. Kazz November 18, 2010 4:47 pm

    I JUST POOPED MY PANTS.

  269. koakane™ November 18, 2010 4:48 pm

is UH being asked to be a full equal member or are they going to be a subsidized member?

  270. koakane™ November 18, 2010 4:48 pm

no wonder there was some strange smell in da air lol

  271. Ralph November 18, 2010 4:51 pm

I see three high points in going to the MWC. Number one, we leave Benson in his tracks, two, as Garret stated we get better TV money and more importantly, Na Wahine get to play their games in California where a lot of our recruits family reside and they will be able to see their kids play.

  272. Kazz November 18, 2010 4:52 pm

Mike Trapasso must have fallen over in his chair!!!

  273. Da Punchbowl Kid November 18, 2010 4:52 pm

    HOOOOOOOLEEEEEEEEEEEE COOOOOOWWWWWWWW!

  274. Stephen Tsai November 18, 2010 4:52 pm

I guess this answers that question: If UH were invited by the MWC, what would it do?

  275. papajoe2 November 18, 2010 4:52 pm

UH football must be aware of the “parting gifts” from other WAC schools like we gave to Fresno and Nevada. I guess with JD at AD, the athletic department is looking up.

  276. Stephen Tsai November 18, 2010 4:53 pm

    Ralph:

This is great for UH, but not so sure about better TV exposure. MWC has that Versus channel, or whatever the Tour De France is on.

  277. Da Punchbowl Kid November 18, 2010 4:53 pm

    Whodathunk!? 🙂

  278. al November 18, 2010 4:53 pm

    wow…mwc n big west.

    recruiting will flourish now.

bet the house on saturday. i change my mind. warriors to be so pumped.

  279. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 4:53 pm

    Koakane..

just football.. so, I would think, no subsidies as each team makes it up when Hawaii travels to their home.

But does that mean the WAC is dead?

  280. papajoe2 November 18, 2010 4:54 pm

Kazz, you got me cracking again.

  281. Ralph November 18, 2010 4:55 pm

UDUB wearing black Unis, gold helmets and purple lettering. Lots of teams embrace the Raider black.

  284. NYUH November 18, 2010 4:56 pm

Interesting graphic shown during the BS game.

    Football budgets

    Auburn 28.8 mil

    Alabama 26.4 mil

    Oregon 15.9 mil

    BS 5.4 mil

    Utah 3.9 mil

  285. wafan November 18, 2010 4:56 pm

Should be interesting to see what happens with the mbb and wbb teams in the BWC. They should do well in a few years.

  286. papajoe2 November 18, 2010 4:57 pm

I gotta go but will check in for more about UH. Garret, me and everyone else waiting on your thoughts and info on this.

  287. Ralph November 18, 2010 4:57 pm

ST I thought Garret stated the MWC payout for TV is twice that of the WAC. Or is that just bowl money? Maybe new ESPN contracts, wishful thinking. Okay, where’s Garret?

  288. Kazz November 18, 2010 4:57 pm

I’m not going to lie. This feels GREAT!

BUT, my God… what have we done. Have we killed the WAC?

I have a conscience and I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a part of me that feels concern especially for San Jose State and NMSU.

  289. Kazz November 18, 2010 4:58 pm

WILL K-5 STILL HONOR UH BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, AND SOFTBALL WITHOUT FOOTBALL???

  290. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 5:00 pm

Im walking on sunshine…whooohooo and dont it feel good!!!!!!

  291. Da Punchbowl Kid November 18, 2010 5:00 pm

Way to go Jim Donovan! Lets get the rest of the WAC into the MWC and have us a super conference!

  292. cocobean November 18, 2010 5:01 pm

Give Donovan a raise. A lot of people put their trust in him and he came through.

Now Guv Abie gotta come up with the travel subsidies he talked about. And the fans better support the teams at the box office.

  293. Da Punchbowl Kid November 18, 2010 5:01 pm

I was really startin’ to miss Coach Alt’s sweet smile on Aloha Stadium’s sideline! 😆

  294. BigIslandkurt November 18, 2010 5:03 pm

YEEEAAAAHHHHHHH! I love it! WE get to whooop up on some old foes once again!

    BIK

  295. Ralph November 18, 2010 5:04 pm

Trapasso’s schedule will definitely be up graded in the Big West, he better start looking for recruits to compete against Long Beach, Northridge, Fullerton, Riverside, Cal Poly, Irvine and a couple more top notch baseball teams.

Big West will be great for recruiting, the Cali players get to play a lot of their games on their home turf yearly or every other year.

  296. Kazz November 18, 2010 5:04 pm

    ST,

Prior to August 18, 2010 I cannot agree we would have ditched.

    AFTER 08/18/2010, YES WE WOULD.

  297. Da Punchbowl Kid November 18, 2010 5:04 pm

Okay, brreathing is normal again. I’m declaring my mood as hysterically optomistic pending analysis of these events by Dr. Garret and others!

  298. wafan November 18, 2010 5:05 pm

Is the WAC now one football school short of a conference once UH moves? Kind of sucks for the two newest members. Will UNT or Montana and Montana State now reconsider?

I agree with Kazz, kind of feel sorry for SJSU and NMSU. Especially for USU who stood their gound.

Should be ineresting to see how folks who were posting how JD was not being proactive are going to say. Good thing JD continued to study his options!

  299. wafan November 18, 2010 5:05 pm

  300. Kazz November 18, 2010 5:05 pm

WAIT!!! DON’T WE HAVE TO STILL GET VOTED IN???

Somewhere Chris Ault is punching babies.

  301. Da Punchbowl Kid November 18, 2010 5:06 pm

Garret! Get in here and tell us what this really means!!! 😆

  302. al November 18, 2010 5:07 pm

    the signs were evident.

this morning josh pacheco interviewed the big west commissioner who neither denied nor acknowledged that hawaii had petitioned inspite of their board approving a lift of the moratorium on expansion.

jd kept saying we are exploring all possibilities and other conferences.

hawaii never lambasted the defectors (except on the field, well, bsu the exception).

no one wanted to believe a bloggers speculation awhile ago, saying that if we keep winning and go football only they could take us.

it will be interesting as this also goes along with the mwc’s aggressive behavior. now with 12 members they can surely withstand a couple of defectors, (i.e. tcu, bsu) in the future.

  303. Kazz November 18, 2010 5:07 pm

    Wafan,

Hopefully with us out of the WAC, those other schools won’t look at conference travel as burden and will join.

  304. koakane™ November 18, 2010 5:08 pm

st will there be a live feed of the UH announcement tonight at 7? still a wahine vball game tonight and the tv equip is already at sheriff ctr.

  305. Kazz November 18, 2010 5:08 pm

    Al,

This is a celebratory time for ALL of UH athletics.

Please don’t darken the mood by mentioning Josh Pacheco here.

    (wink wink) 😉

  306. Ralph November 18, 2010 5:09 pm

I wonder what coach Alt will be thinking after someone breaks news to him that UH is considering an offer to join the MWC. Coach Scruggs, wvb, must be dumbfounded too, her travel budget just skyrocketed again.

  307. wafan November 18, 2010 5:09 pm

Best part of this, Kazz, is Ault will be forced to return the play the Warriors at Aloha Stadium.

I wonder how he likes his crow prepared?

  308. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 5:09 pm

  309. Kazz November 18, 2010 5:10 pm

    Ralph,

Wahine Softball might run over everyone without hesitation in the Big West.

Heck UC Davis won their conference with a 24-26 record. What does that say???? 😯

  310. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 5:10 pm

WOW!!! What a turn of events!! Can wait to 7pm to hear what is actually in the works for UH! Good job JD

  311. Michigan Warrior November 18, 2010 5:11 pm

    What???

Man, I log out for a bit to help the kids with homework, make and eat dinner, and log back on to see… this?

Waiting for the dust to settle so we learn the full details… and whether or not this is a solid deal.

  312. Kaimuki Kid November 18, 2010 5:11 pm

    Pomai,

US 58 THEM 28 Thank you

  313. Mari November 18, 2010 5:11 pm

    YAY, MWC 🙂 Go Warriors!!!

  314. al November 18, 2010 5:12 pm

    dpk…what?

it means that we are in the mwc for football and big west for the other sports.

it makes sense. the biggest drain on far reaching travel is from the non-rev sports. this makes sense for the mwc that they now only have to worry about the football travel costs, although, i’ll bet that some travel support was offered by hawaii to join in.

the non-rev’s now have lowered travel costs since travel is confined to california only. hopefully our partnership with hawaiian air will also ease up the expenses.

basketball, baseball, and volleyball make some money for us and they could help hold up the other sports that don’t. competition for these sports will be fun especially wvball.

  315. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 5:12 pm

    Michigan Warrior..

Does this mean you get to see more of the Warrior games?

  316. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 5:13 pm

We don’t have to be voted in…the invitation was done by the presidents of the universities.

Contract law…one party offers, the other accepts…a contract is formed.

    Whoohoo!!!

  317. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 5:14 pm

    al,

Instead of subsidies, I think UH gave up any and all portions of basketball $$ from NCAA participation in March Madness that the other MWC teams may have/will garner.

  318. Pride. November 18, 2010 5:14 pm

Huh? What did Tsai say? Not Budging? Huh?

  319. koakane™ November 18, 2010 5:15 pm

yep agree with ralph, trap has to look at playing at a higher level in bball. for now liking the upgrade JD is making.

will be listening or waiting with excitement on what the 7 announcement is going to detail.

  320. al November 18, 2010 5:15 pm

hat’s off to mr. jim donovan and mrs. virginia hinshaw.

and now if neil pitches in with some money as he has stated…we could be on the verge of a landmark era.

  321. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 5:15 pm

as well as those from any other sports if any is available…. ONLY football.. and football generated revenues will probably be split.

  322. madeinhawaii November 18, 2010 5:17 pm

Now… maybe Hawaii can really get back to recruiting, eh?

  323. Pride. November 18, 2010 5:18 pm

Wow. Just like watching an old WWF “grudge match” in the cage. One commissioner against the other. Lot’s of blood, forced retirement for the loser.

  324. Kaimuki Kid November 18, 2010 5:19 pm

So do we accept te invite of the original backstabbers? I feel bad for Utah State and San Jose State….

  325. koakane™ November 18, 2010 5:22 pm

by subsidies I am wondering if UH will pay for teams travel in fball.

  326. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 5:23 pm

    kaimuki kid,

As i posted on ST facebook…the choice for Donovan can easily be answered by this question…”do you want to keep your job?”

No deliberation needed in my mind.

  327. Darren November 18, 2010 5:23 pm

Sometimes I feel that ST is playing the reverse psychology card with us…

  328. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 5:24 pm

Do I hear Super Conference??? NAH just kidding!!!LOL

  329. Last Call November 18, 2010 5:24 pm

Sweet Baby Jesus an early Christmas present. Yesterday’s announcement by the Big West was the clue.

  330. Darren November 18, 2010 5:24 pm

There is no doubt we accept. From past experience, the invite means that all the “i”s have been dotted and the “t”s have been crossed. Props to JD…I can still look forward to UH football games 10 years from now.

  331. Kaimuki Kid November 18, 2010 5:25 pm

Altitude games at Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming once again…

  332. papajoe2 November 18, 2010 5:25 pm

I hope that we schedule at least 2 games a year with the WAC schools just to help them out and maybe post some wins while we’re at it. I don’t want to leave as them hating us since we’ve been there soo long. Maybe they couldn’t afford the play here but at least the offer in good faith.

  333. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 5:25 pm

too bad we can’t get BYU to come back to the MWC and I hope big east dumps their offer to TCU.

  334. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 5:26 pm

    POMAI

    63 UH 13 them

  335. Mrs. A-House November 18, 2010 5:28 pm

Everyone is talking about the 7pm news conference, but NO ONE says which TV channel?

So, I ask, which TV channel?

Some what surprised it happened so suddenly, but the BWC lifting their “no expansion” kinda gave away some thing was in the works – more specifically, discussions were done, last minute details to be ironed out, and then the announcement!

With the successes we’re are seeing this year for UH sports (including the Na Wahine softball), it “adds” to UH-Manoa’s value athletically and to the conference within which it participates.

Hopefully, this will translate into more “local boys/gals” staying home and play for the Green and White.

Excellent work, Mr Donovan and Ms Hinshaw!!!!!!1

  336. Okole Maluna November 18, 2010 5:29 pm

ST – That’s great news if it happens for Hawaii. That means we move in 2012 Fall Football Schedule. I know it hasn’t happen yet but Thanks for the great Headline News. Cross our fingers!!!

Did Garret pass out? Or is he busy doing more research to clarify the position?

  342. Kaimuki Kid November 18, 2010 5:31 pm

I am not being negative and I thought Benson was more like Bozo the Clown. I just still remember the betrayal I felt when then Original 8 broke off, secet meetings at the airport. Just sticks me the wrong way…

  343. First Call November 18, 2010 5:31 pm

  349. Pomai November 18, 2010 5:36 pm

Until it is in black and white, then I will beleive it, we’ve had a bubble burst to many times already. But If true JD is the man…….

I’ll say it again… Nitrogen tents for key personnel.

  351. wafan November 18, 2010 5:37 pm

How much will the WAC exit cost UH? Since Fresno and Reno both were able to talk down their exit fee can UH do the same?

  352. HawaiiMongoose November 18, 2010 5:37 pm

Ferd is now calling it a “strong agreement in principal”. That doesn’t sound 100% iron-clad to me. Let’s hope there’s been no jumping the gun here.

  353. Ipu Man November 18, 2010 5:39 pm

Good News: We join the MWC in 2012!

Bad News: That’s the year the world is supposed to end…

  357. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 5:40 pm

    Koakane

    re #326

Travel subsidies: shouldn’t the Hawaii exemption cover travel subsidies. Schools traveling to Hawaii is eligible to play a 13th game? I’m not clear on this exemption. Was this exemption for this purpose?

  358. Pomai November 18, 2010 5:41 pm

Now back to reality we are still in the WAC…….for now

  359. 96706 November 18, 2010 5:42 pm

  360. koakane™ November 18, 2010 5:42 pm

wafan main thing can see the space needle lol

  363. A-joe November 18, 2010 5:45 pm

Splitting football and the rest of the other sports makes financial sense. Football can draw in more money being in the MWC. Cheaper travel expenses for UH’s other sports and their opponents being in the Big West.

  364. koakane™ November 18, 2010 5:46 pm

off for now since news @ six is on now lattttttassssssssss

  365. wafan November 18, 2010 5:47 pm

Pomai is correct. We are still in the WAC. The big question is of Fresno, Reno and UH. Which one takes the WACy football trophy with them to the MWC?

    Go Warriors!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  366. A-joe November 18, 2010 5:48 pm

For current MWC members, cheaper to send just your football team every other year to Hawaii, versus sending every single sport to the islands every year.

  367. USUAggieFan November 18, 2010 5:49 pm

What a bunch of traitors. That was our spot.

  368. chopsueyboy November 18, 2010 5:50 pm

  369. HawnSpartan November 18, 2010 5:51 pm

I hate the Warriors. Always did. We’re going to kick your butts this weekend.

  370. Pomai November 18, 2010 5:52 pm

wafan if and I said if we are indeed going to the MWC the same year as fresneck and reno, it would be insane if we went as the WAC champions.

  371. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 5:52 pm

Sorry to go off topic but…..

And does the Hawaii exemption include schools in the same conference? Could someone explain the Hawaii Exemption? To me, if a visiting school chooses not to use this exemption than it is their fault for not scheduling a money making game to make up for travel.

  372. USUAggieFan November 18, 2010 5:54 pm

I knew that we couldn’t count on you guys to stand strong. You guys have no spine. Go ahead, sleep with the enemy. I hope you guys all rot in, you no where. I can’t stand people from Hawaii. We should ex-communicate all of you from the LDS church.

  373. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 5:56 pm

    LMFAO!

  374. HawnSpartan November 18, 2010 5:56 pm

No worry AggieFan. Hawaii fans, dey all waha. No moa mana.

  375. Kazz November 18, 2010 5:58 pm

The blog is going to hit 1,000 by midnight tonight.

  376. Kazz November 18, 2010 6:01 pm

    Too many questions…

-Will K-5 still cover the BIG WEST?

-I read that the MWC has no control of bowls in the sense that the Hawaii Bowl will still be in UH’s favor to UH as a football MWC member?

-Diamond Head Classic should be safe right?

  377. Markazulu November 18, 2010 6:01 pm

U think the WAC schools especially La Tech would be happy cutting down travel expenses!

  378. wafan November 18, 2010 6:02 pm

Tough choice. Sleep and actually function tomorrow and be aware during my eye procedure; or, stay up to listen to the presser.

    Will it be on 1420?

  379. HawaiiMongoose November 18, 2010 6:02 pm

Meanwhile this post on the TCU board is claiming that TCU’s invitation to the Big East for all sports has been finalized. If true, this could explain the MWC’s decision to invite UH.

If Kazz is right and we go to 1,000 … I got to help. Heh.

  381. G-Money November 18, 2010 6:04 pm

Hope this helps our completely non-productive recruiting efforts

  382. Yabba-Dabba-Doo November 18, 2010 6:04 pm

LOL, kicked out of the LDS church ? It’s 2010 USUAggieFan the churches in America are empty.

  383. wafan November 18, 2010 6:05 pm

Wow! This must be a huge event — Esme is here!

    And now she is gone.

  384. Esme November 18, 2010 6:06 pm

Anyway, what’s up, Tsaikos! I haven’t been in this neck o’ the woods in ages. But after hearing about the big news, I had to run over here to see what the state’s most knowledgeable football fans have to say about it.

Oh, and of course I wanted to say hello and express how much I’ve missed hanging out in the Tsaiko clubhouse. Seriously.

OK, I’ll shut up now. Back to football talk. It’s crazy news.

  385. Kazz November 18, 2010 6:06 pm

    G-Money,

For UH basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball it will for sure.

  386. Esme November 18, 2010 6:07 pm

wafan, you’re so funny, as always. Actually, I’m just playing a minute of hooky, I’m still working. But definitely will check in here now and then tonight. I’m tryna make sense myself of the news …

  387. Pomai November 18, 2010 6:11 pm

I caught papa leahey on the news, his comment was how could this happen without us finding out about it. LOL you should have seen the look on his face.

  388. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:11 pm

    from FB

PROGRAMMING ALERT: ESPN 1420 and http://www.espn1420am.com/ will be carrying the UH press conference at Bachman Hall this evening at 7 p.m. UH is expected to announce that the school has been invited to join the Mountain West Conference for the sport of football. The UH-Idaho volleyball match will immediately follow.

  389. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 6:13 pm

thanks D1 will try listen here at the airport! 35 more minutes.

  390. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 6:14 pm

ok my wall clocks says 1825

  391. Ballpicker November 18, 2010 6:17 pm

Snap, I believe this is good news for the program and fans. I’m pretty interested to see how it all pans out. Hang in there USUaggieFan you guys might be next.

    Go Warriors….Lanakila.

  392. Kazz November 18, 2010 6:20 pm

    d1,

You beat me to it. Whoever answered the phone at 1420AM sounded exhausted!!!!

  393. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:20 pm

MRC Greenwood called the presser. It’s gonna be at Bachman Hall, not SSC.

    Sounds pretty real.

  394. Doink November 18, 2010 6:22 pm

I love it when lonely losers, who still live with their parents, pretend to be fans from other programs come on here and try to get a rise from everyone.

Idiots! They make me laugh!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!

  395. Manoa Mist November 18, 2010 6:28 pm

If JD were here I think I’d kiss him. This is going to be great for Hawaii. Well done Jimbo!!

  396. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:28 pm

If TCU leaving is a done deal, that leaves 10 for football….could still be room for two more.

  397. 808ike November 18, 2010 6:31 pm

    Great news for UH athletics.

  398. Stephen Tsai November 18, 2010 6:33 pm

We are all set up. UH gave us a room to write. Now we just have to wait for the news conference .

  399. Garret November 18, 2010 6:33 pm

This is very, very good news…and not a surprise.

UH putting all non-football sports in the Big West was in the works for at least 5 months. I’ve had a special tab on my blog since the summer that tracked how JD and the Big West have made all the right public statements and hints, often using ESPN and newspapers to send public messages to each other.

The Hawaii media has been dropping the hint for awhile now that UH would get the football-only invite when TCU went to the Big East. Thank you to the Big East for taking TCU!

  400. 808ike November 18, 2010 6:34 pm

MWC is using UH to help them with A-Q since BYU and probably TCU are leaving.

  401. Homegrown November 18, 2010 6:35 pm

OMG!! is it true….so much questions just will wait for the full report….being the oldest member in the WAC wouldnt it be nice hawaii wins the wac trophy next year and join the mwc the following year

  402. Hank November 18, 2010 6:36 pm

#343…Kaimuki Kid…i’m with you bruddah…we gotta remember who we’re sleeping with, and beat the C*#P out of them when it’s game time so we can move to the PAC 12 when it expands next. I understand the benefits…yeah, gotta go.

…but like some others, mixed feelings, and regret for our WAC brothers…esp USU.

…it’s business, but still…mixed feelings here.

  403. G-Money November 18, 2010 6:36 pm

    Kazz,

Probably, but I was talking about football, unfortunately

  404. Garret November 18, 2010 6:36 pm

Financial implications–this will obviously reduce the value of PPV. However, the non-football sports should still have Oceanic, so UH will get money there, just a lot less than before.

MWC gets $1.3 million from TV, UH gets $400k from the WAC’s TV deal and I’ve been pointing our for months that the WAC’s TV deal was going to go way down.

Hopefully Oceanic will add the mtn or the mtn dies. I’m guessing that Oceanic adds the mtn and all UH football games will be free for those who have the channel and CBS CS and VS. Anyone with DirecTV can get the mtn channel, and they do a nice job with coaches shows and other weekly specials.

  405. Hank November 18, 2010 6:38 pm

…i guess they chose us over Houston and/or SMU…

  406. Garret November 18, 2010 6:40 pm

So, the MWC has now taken the top 4 teams with BCS computer points in the WAC. The 5th WAC school is *far* below the top 4, so adding any other WAC school would KILL the MWC’s chances for AQ status.

I’ve been saying for a *long* time how the MWC had a real shot at getting AQ status and most UH fans just said that it would never happen. Now, everyone will probably care more about the MWC getting AQ status! The MWC is very, very close to getting it and one thing they had to do was put a big gap between them and the next closest non-AQ conference…with the WAC basically destroyed, that will boost the MWC’s chances.

AQ status would mean that if UH wins the conference they automatically get to go to a BCS bowl. It would mean the conference would automatically get millions more per school…more than making up for the loss of PPV revenue.

  407. Garret November 18, 2010 6:41 pm

    Hank,

The MWC doesn’t want to raid the C-USA…their commissioners met over the summer and they have come to some agreements already.

  408. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:43 pm

    Garret,

If I may be so bold as to condense much of what you just said: Just win baby!

    😉

  409. Garret November 18, 2010 6:43 pm

By the way, I seriously doubt any WAC team like Utah State would be invited if the MWC wants to get AQ status. Utah State’s computer ranking is *bad*, and that would kill the average. Even more important, having just 10 schools gives a 12.5% bonus to the BCS points for a conference, but if they add teams they lose that bonus. So, adding a bad team kills the average AND loses the bonus.

  410. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:44 pm

One year respite from B$-You…unless they wanna change their minds!

  411. Garret November 18, 2010 6:45 pm

    d1shima,

I think I was pointing out the consequences of losing and the benefits for winning for years…and it got to the point that some UH fans were claiming that I was not a real UH fan because I talked about the consequences of losing. That is why this season has been so important…it literally could have saved the Athletic Department at UH.

  412. Rich2176 November 18, 2010 6:46 pm

Benson must be pooping in his shorts. Better get those resumes out cuz he’s not gonna have much of a conference left.

    JD for governor!! LOL.

  413. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:47 pm

    Garret,

All that you have posted here has always been appreciated!

  414. Garret November 18, 2010 6:47 pm

UH being in a conference with SDSU and UNLV has been my dream…it will be so easy to go to games now! I’ll miss the every-other-year trip to the UH-SJSU game…I think I’ve seen every UH game in San Jose for 12 years at least.

UH being in the Big West is the best for recruiting and for being able to have UH fans see the games. There are so many Hawaii people in California that will go to cheer on the teams.

  415. Garret November 18, 2010 6:49 pm

    d1shima,

When UH was losing, many people here didn’t like hearing what that meant. But once UH started winning, they liked me pointing out the same things I was pointing out before.

If UH can get into the top 25 this year or next year, that could insure that the MWC can get/keep AQ status. The MWC getting AQ status would solve all of UH’s budget problems for athletics.

  416. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 6:49 pm

How important was the WAC schools in determining BYU’s independent schedule?

Wish wish wish BYU would reconsider haha.

  417. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:52 pm

    FINAL DISCUSSIONS???

  418. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 6:52 pm

hmmmm doesn’t at all seem locked….=(

  419. Garret November 18, 2010 6:53 pm

The nice thing about TCU leaving in 2012 is that they leave *all* of their BCS points behind for the 2008-2012 evaluation period that could earn the MWC AQ status. I’m sure that UH and the rest of the MWC appreciates being able to count TCU’s points.

So, for the purposes of the BCS evaluation period, the MWC will have both TCU and BSU! The BCS has to basically ignore the fact that TCU is leaving and let their points count for the MWC.

I’ll run the numbers some time in the future when we want to get into that stuff (I’ve actually already run the numbers without UH, but I will add UH for the 2010-2014 period). If TCU leaving their BCS points gets the MWC AQ status, great for UH!

  420. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:53 pm

Are University Prez’s supposed to give “shout out’s”?

  421. d1島 November 18, 2010 6:54 pm

I hope the finalization is not dependent on Hawaii’s hat designs!

  422. J November 18, 2010 6:54 pm

Haven’t been to an SDSU football game since UH played them at the Murph and it was a long drive from Wine Country to San Diego back then. Definitely easier…short car trip and a trolley ride away.

  423. Ala Wai November 18, 2010 6:54 pm

Where can we buy the Hinshaw hat?

  424. wafan November 18, 2010 6:55 pm

UH Predsident Greenwood at Bachman Hall right now.

This is a Great Day for Hawaii.

Thanks too all the Mountain West Conf School for having confedence in us to let us join the MWC.

    Bring on 2012!

I’m still in a daze and trying to keep pinching myself since the time ST = spilled the news at 4:27 PM today!!!!

What a Great day for Hawaii!!! Thank you JD! Thank you MWC!

  430. wafan November 18, 2010 7:00 pm

    Bravissimo.

  431. Michigan Warrior November 18, 2010 7:01 pm

Ok, it’s past midnight… going to sleep now… hoping the offer is still on the table when I wake up…

  432. Garret November 18, 2010 7:01 pm

I just read one interesting tidbit and I’ll try to get a link to the actual contract details as soon as possible. What I read was that the VS contract with the MWC is over after 2011. That means that someone (hint, ESPN, hint) could actually get a piece of the MWC’s TV deal. *If* that is the case, I don’t see how anyone would be able to outbid ESPN since ESPN loves BSU.

  433. d1島 November 18, 2010 7:01 pm

  434. wafan November 18, 2010 7:02 pm

They cut out during a question about exit fees. Darn it! Anyone know what the response was? AND, what the heck is ESPN 1500? The only link I found was to MN?!?!

  435. Bulla November 18, 2010 7:04 pm

#264, no ST, he is fine where he is at, still has 2 to play 2, and we wish only the best for the WARRIORS and the coaches.

    GO WARRIORS

  436. wafan November 18, 2010 7:04 pm

    d1 . . .

Why the hesitation and concern? I did not get to listen to the entire presser.

  437. d1島 November 18, 2010 7:05 pm

    wafan,

    No fees per JD.

  438. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 7:05 pm

    wafan,

    NO EXIT FEES =)

  439. Bulla November 18, 2010 7:05 pm

sounds like there are a ‘few things’ to work out. was coach mack very short in his comments or was that just me? seemed a little weird, nothing big, just a little weird…….

  440. Jason November 18, 2010 7:05 pm

The Big West just lifted a moratorium on expansion recently, and now is accepting applications from interested universities. I believe JD said the deadline was 12/01.

If UH enters the Big West in non-football sports, he said UH would leave the MPSF in men’s volleyball and water polo, along with the other Big West schools to form a separate conference.

  441. Stan Manley November 18, 2010 7:06 pm

This is what every UH fan has been waiting for and many wondered if it will ever happen. Well, it finally has and rivalries will be renewed. As for the WAC, good luck and hope that conference can find it’s identity.

  442. Ala Wai November 18, 2010 7:06 pm

ESPN taking over the MWC contract would bode well for the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. Potential to get in the BCS rotation?

  443. Garret November 18, 2010 7:06 pm

I don’t feel bad for Karl Benson. He’s earned a lot of money and it wasn’t long ago that the WAC was near the MWC’s level.

I *do* feel badly for SJSU, Utah State, NMSU, La Tech, and Idaho. The financial hit they will take from the loss of revenue would make several of them (NMSU, SJSU, etc.) drop out of D-IA, and the conference could end up dropping football. I also feel badly for UTSA and TXST since the conference they were so happy to join recently may not be gone.

  444. Jason November 18, 2010 7:06 pm

    Press conference all pau already.

  445. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 7:06 pm

Just as I suspected the UNLV president/admin probably put in a very good word for us.

Also Las Vegas Sun reporting Hawaii goes to MWC

    http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/nov/18/report-hawaii-join-mountain-west-football/

  446. Okole Maluna November 18, 2010 7:06 pm

The bad news for me is I was gearing and hyping up myself up for Texas Schools that we can’t visit San Antonio or San Marco now.

I wish them all the WAC teams well and I’m sure they will somehow manage to survive as we have done.

  447. A-House November 18, 2010 7:07 pm

Mrs A-House and I experienced mixed feelings when Kekaula made the announcement – felt almost empty knowing that Utah State turned down the invite to honor their commitment to the WAC and now they may be left out again. Hope not!!!

Mentioned to Mrs A-House that the MWC schools did it 3 times before – leaving Hawaii out before extending the invitation and DIRECTLY from the Presidents of all schools and I will presume to Pres Greenwood.

Very few if any thought the she was involved in all that was transpiring – guess Hinshaw and Donovan kept briefing her all this time.

Many expected that Pres Greenwood would say that UH has officially accepted the invite to the MWC, but it was only to confirm that the MWC has asked Hawaii to start negotiations on moving to the MWC in 2012. However, she was confident that this WILL HAPPEN!!!!!!!

  448. Garret November 18, 2010 7:07 pm

The WAC does *not* have an exit fee.

As an exiting member, UH would not take any share of the WAC’s 2011-2012 revenue distribution. However, that will be less than $1 million and is a small price to pay for securing UH’s Athletic future.

  449. Garret November 18, 2010 7:09 pm

I could provide much more info (I’ve read up on the MWC for months), but I’ve got to get some work done. Tomorrow is a busy day–6am until 8pm with NO break. So, I’ll be off the blog but I know when I get back I’ll read a very happy blog.

  450. wahinefan November 18, 2010 7:10 pm

    Two days to pay dirt.

  451. d1島 November 18, 2010 7:11 pm

    wafan,

Let’s just say I have shaken hands with many folks and for many reasons with many results.

  452. d1島 November 18, 2010 7:15 pm

….and I see that Charley Brown is playing on TV tonight.

I hope he finally gets to kick the football. Good Grief!

  453. d1島 November 18, 2010 7:18 pm

A statement by the MWC said, “The Mountain West Conference Board of Directors has authorized Commissioner Craig Thompson to begin discussions with the University of Hawaii regarding possible membership in the sport of football only.”

  454. wafan November 18, 2010 7:19 pm

Been thinking about this a while ago. What if the MWC invited UH then split again and picked up the left over WAC schools to reform and transform. Again.

Nah. Pretty certain they are not that devious and underhanded. Right?

    Are they?

  455. Manoa Mist November 18, 2010 7:19 pm

Man it willl be nice to play Air Force, Colorado State, San Diego State, routinely kick Fresno, and play in the same league with Boise. Confucious said to pray for worthy opponents. Today Hawaii’s prayers have been answered.

  456. UHalumInOC November 18, 2010 7:20 pm

This is great news that’s for sure. One thing now though, is once this is inked, UH, the governor, legislature and the people of Hawaii needs to rally and commit to moving UH up on the success ladder. As already mentioned here, that is the story of Boise State. They are committed on all fronts to improve their stance in the athletic world and have shown the fruits of this work. San Diego State seems to be doing the same. We need to jump on this momentum and go all in, to do this for UH as well. JD, Hinshaw are some of the right pieces to have in place, now we need a government and the people (to show up in the stands and in the stores) to support the programs to continue the success.

  457. wafan November 18, 2010 7:21 pm

    Nah.

Tomorrow is going to be a glorious Aloha Friday~~~

    Nytal!

  458. A-House November 18, 2010 7:21 pm

LIke Pres Greenwood said, it’s not done until it’s in writing, but discussions that we are not privy to seem to indicate that very little, if any, can derail the announcement with a “formal” invite extended and accepted.

    Like she said, stay tuned!!!!!!!!

  459. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 18, 2010 7:21 pm

    wafan,

never can tell…thats where winning becomes an important part of the equation. if we are at the bottom of the MWC in 5-10 years on an annual basis we might need to worry…if we are in the top 25 more consistently then we probably don’t have to worry that much.

  460. RainbowCliff November 18, 2010 7:31 pm

Well NOW we are TALKING !

If true and a done deal Hawaii NOW can be looked upon as a viable opponent

and coming from a respectful conference. Denver University, UT San Antonio

and Texas State was not going to cut it no matter how you accepted them

    with open arms.

Big West is a GREAT move as Long Beach, Northridge, Santa Barbara, Irvine,

Riverside and Fullerton are FULL of Hawaii fans and the areas will make some

good receptions and bring out a lot of good travels from you good folks of Tsaiko

    Nation.

MWC is the old Wac as Las Vegas can be VIVA for everyone and sunny San Diego

is right off the 405 heading South to Garret’s neck of the woods !

WONDERFUL news indeed as saying good bye to the “weak wac” has long been over do !

Congrats to Jim D, Virginia Hinshaw and ALL the inside folks who made this new begining

for Hawaii athletics a REALITY and not the same old story of UH being left out in the cold

    once again !

  461. gmahoney November 18, 2010 7:37 pm

    Two days to pay dirt.

And if I win, can I get a 3X for my new best friend Karl Grebe, a Redskin fan who sent my grandson Chris Cooley’s receiver glove with autographs of about 6 players and Coach Shanahan. Mahalo also to LizK for setting this up. She is truly an ambassador of Aloha.

  462. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 7:40 pm

WE ARE AN ASSET TO THE MWC. More than anyone is letting on. Back in 2006 we had an excellent year…. COLT came back and the rest is history…. DE JA VU…. Hopefully…., we can reach an 11 win season this year and next year??????

  463. Darren November 18, 2010 7:40 pm

Pretty sure there’d be no press conference if we were 2 – 8 right now. Props to the players and coaches of this year’s team, as we live in a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world. They likely have very well made the difference in the future of UH athletics as we know it.

  464. Shoko November 18, 2010 7:42 pm

Wow, just got the good news. Benson is on a sinking ship and he can’t swim!

  465. Ala Wai November 18, 2010 7:44 pm

Want to take a break from the MWC news?

LPGA to vote on allowing transgenders to play on tour.

I think I’ll go to Bangkok for the operation and become a lesbian golf pro.

  466. Darren November 18, 2010 7:46 pm

Boise can’t be all that happy about this…thinking they’d be joining Utah, BYU and TCU (instead it’s still us guys). But of course we don’t care…it’s all about self-preservation baby…

  467. pcwarrior November 18, 2010 7:46 pm

Wow Ala Wai!! and then they all might move here and get married

  468. Bulla November 18, 2010 7:55 pm

    ala wai,

you bring much hope to koa mahu, what a banner day for ‘all’ UH fans and athletic ‘supporters’, haha

  469. OldDiver November 18, 2010 7:57 pm

If this conference shuffle concludes with the MWC being recognized as a BCS conference then todays announcement in the long run have a greater impact on the University of Hawaii than the Sugar Bowl appearance. We own this to the coaches and especially the players who have played their guts out to make this happen. A special Mahalo to all of them, this indeed is a special team and a special year.

  470. RainbowCliff November 18, 2010 7:58 pm

Mr. Darren, SELF-PRESERVATION is the first law of nature as I am so HAPPY

when Hawaii can make this move to the MWC and Big West !

LOADS of fans here ALL over Southern California !

    CONGRATULATIONS !

  471. Darren November 18, 2010 8:00 pm

Cliff – Don’t know if I could be any happier about this. So how’s basketball in the Big West?

  472. diehard fan November 18, 2010 8:01 pm

The UH and taxpayers will be left with a bill for travel subsidies and how much ? Why are we stuck with having to pay travel subsidies ?

Would we also have to pay travel subsidies for the Big West teams ?

  473. RainbowCliff November 18, 2010 8:12 pm

OldDiver: You are absolutley CORRECT !

This move far BIGGER then the Sugarbowl as survival for Hawaii

athletics was in jeorpardy and RESPECT from a national audience

can now be looked upon with out complaining about the competition.

VERY HAPPY for you good folks who supports UH with all your heart

    and compassion !

  474. Ipu Man November 18, 2010 8:17 pm

Are travel subsidies a two-way street?

Do the mainland schools pay us to travel to them?

  475. LizKauai (iPad) November 18, 2010 8:17 pm

Mahalo Jim Donovan, Chancellor, President and all those who are making things happen for Hawaii’s teams.

    God Bless’

TCU is leaving for the Big East? Was that in the news recently? I missed it.

  478. Ala Wai November 18, 2010 8:23 pm

Ditto Liz on the Mahalo. Also to Coach Mac and the team for the great effort this year. I’m sure our success had a lot to do with the MWC decision. Don’t think this would have happened if we were 3 and 7.

Travel subsidies are a necessary evil to make this happen…and of course it’s probably only us paying them. No make sense uddahwise. Would rather deal with subsidies instead of watching UH athletics continue in the downward spiral (think toilet bowl).

WOW……….I THOUGHT NEXT THURSDAY WAS THANKSGIVING? but got here early!

EXCITED like the rest of WARRIOR fans….no matta how I feel about MWC, REALITY is upon

us, JOIN or FLAUNDER at best in the future.

…sure would be interesting jus to know who some of the heavyweights that went to bat for us…..a BIG MAHALO!

The WARRIOR’S have always risen to challenge n they will this time also. MWC made a very smart move for them n will benefit us also given the scenarios.

GARRETT,looking for to your disecto analysis report…awsome stuff!

It looks like the big house in HALAWA will be ROCKIN!!!

The WAC rates higher in basketball than the Big West.

    7 MOUNTAIN WEST

    12 WESTERN ATHLETIC

    20 BIG WEST

One could consider Pacific as the Utah State of the Big West. However, they haven’t been in the Big Dance since 2006 where they were one and done. But then again, Utah went one and done last year.

  485. Ipu Man November 18, 2010 8:31 pm

So here are the 2010 teams today we hafta beat?

    TCU 7-0 11-0

    Utah 5-1 8-2

    San Diego State 4-2 7-3

    BYU 4-2 5-5

    Air Force 5-3 8-4

    Colorado State 2-5 3-8

    UNLV 2-5 2-9

    New Mexico 1-5 1-9

    Wyoming 0-7 2-9

  488. cocobean November 18, 2010 8:36 pm

    Garrett,

The price to play has gone up. What’s your guess on the travel subsidies for visiting MWC football teams? I’m thinking dollarwise between 75k to 150K per team. Or commodity wise 85 plane tickets (65 players, 20 staff) plus one night hotel,

I thinking for the Big West, plane tickets plus one night hotel minimum.

  489. OldDiver November 18, 2010 8:36 pm

I saw this post on the MWC board from a Fresno State fan.

“You thought Fresno fans aer ghetto… You really don’t have a clue but will soon find out with Hawaii now on board.”

My juices are flowing now, next year at Aloha Stadium I say we beat the c#@p out of them, “AGAIN”.

  490. RainbowCliff November 18, 2010 8:39 pm

Mr. Darren, Long Beach State has the Pyramid on it’s campus as basketball and volleyball can get LOUD in that arena. Northridge has plans on building a NEW athletic complex that will fill more seats for basketball and volleyball. The THUNDERDOME in Santa Barbara is CRAZY when it is filled to capacity as the drive up the Santa Barbara Coast is beautiful with good food and GREAT wine as vineyards are popular up the Ventura Freeway. Irvine TREMENDOUS arena and you have Orange County 10 minutes away to downtown Disneyland and Anaheim stadium. Riverside is EXPANDING and the UC school is investing more money into it’s athletic and academic programs. Pacific University in Stockton is a BEAUTIFUL campus up Northern California. EXCELLENT academic institution with a RICH tradition in all of it’s athletic teams. Spanos Center is a beautiful arena named after Alex Spanos who graduated from Pacific and owns the San Diego Chargers.

WELCOME kind sir to BIG WEST athletics that has it’s students HEAVILY involve in cheering for it’s home team as you are going to love Mamas and The Papas “California Dreamin” !

  493. Darren November 18, 2010 8:47 pm

Coco – Thinking that subsidies mean that we’ll help out…not pay the entire cost.

  494. A-House November 18, 2010 8:47 pm

If the WAC folds, what happens to all the “bowls” they were committed to? For example, the WAC owns the Humanitarian Bowl played in Boise.

We all know that ESPN owns the Hawaii bowl which gives the MWC another bowl.

I guess, Hawaii can bring a lot to the table for the MWC and BWC!

Let it be said, let it be written ( dang, just like The Ten Commandments ): UH sports, in general, has seen a dramatic shift upwards in nearly all sports and appear to have the athletes to continue this trend into the near future – men’s tennis with 3 consecutive WAC titles; Na Wahine going to the CWS; Wahine VB with 16 consecutive WAC championships; Baseball with a WC championship; Amber Kaufman with a National Championship and still 1 more year; football on a definite rise with the “horses” to do well the next 2 years; men’s VB nearly qualifying for the final four; men’s basketball much improved and 2 new recruits for 2011.

Like Garret says, football and basketball are the primary points of interest and money maker when it comes to AQ qualification. Coach Gib now has a heavy load to carry in 2010-2011.

Will they make a huge impact in WAC BB in 2010-11?

  495. Kazz November 18, 2010 8:47 pm

Best wishes to Corinne Cascioppo on her future!

  497. RainbowCliff November 18, 2010 8:58 pm

Big West: GREAT arenas, food, entertainment. Freeways are accesible to all school locations with die hard fans supporting their teams. Anaheim Convention Center is the Big West Tournament for basketball. Volleyball is going to have tougher teams for the wahines to play as Pacific, Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara and Irvine are going to be tough competition as they recruit locally and nationally. Baseball is going to upgrade as Fullerton is top dog with UCLA and USC dare not playing them in preseason or regular season.

With Hawaii coming in it will add more EXCITEMENT to the conference and bring fans looking to travel for some polynesian hospitality !

  498. OldDiver November 18, 2010 8:59 pm

  500. Ballpicker November 18, 2010 9:02 pm

Why should we sudsidies anyone for football?

Hawaii flies the pacific 2,3,4 times per season to play in conference. But yet the other teams in conference play in Hawaii once every two years!

Big West is another issue but more manageable than flying a football team plus coaches and admin people here to the islands.

If we see anything else as a result than there will be questions about the deal.

But all n all I have confidence in Donavon to get it rght for Hawaii.

    Dear Boise, Fresno, and Nevada,

We are sorry for all of the bad things we said about you when you announced that you were leaving the WAC, especially you Nevada and Fresno. We shouldn’t have called you names, like traitor, etc. However, we are not sorry for the beatdowns we put on you this year before you hit the road, with the exception of you Boise, almighty WAC football God. We look forward to the opportunity to not do anything against Nevada and win again. We also embrace the opportunity to continue to get screwdrivers thrown at us on the sidelines (maybe now we can get that fricken trophy for the rivalry). Oh yeah, Boise, next year is a whole new ball game. See you in Honolulu.

To the MWC, thanks for the opportunity. You will soon see that you truly did add one of the more exciting football teams to watch. And this years second best team in the WAC.

  504. Lopaka43 November 18, 2010 9:18 pm

What a roller coaster ride this year has been.

Both Coach Mack and Coach Arnold were at the volleyball game and were talking animatedly. My guess was it was about what a good situation the new conference alignment is, both for recruiting and for rivalries.

  505. Pride. November 18, 2010 9:20 pm

    Steve,

On second thought, must be an injury Forsythe suffered at practice I assume after Monday. Saw her walking ok at the 11pm Monday night bball game, then again she walked right by me and didn’t notice anything odd, but I could be wrong anyway.

  513. A-House November 18, 2010 9:39 pm

    Observation/opinion:

What is the difference between the “invite” extended to Nevada and Fresno St and Hawaii?

We are not privy to all the details of Reno and Fresno call, but was it not a full out invitation and acceptance over the telephone? While Hawaii was asked to start “negotiation” to join the MWC in 2012 for football only.

Is Reno and Fresno still working out the “details” on playing in 2012?

Who can stop and derail the process to exclude UH from joining the MWC?

Like Homey, Mrs A-House has a funny feeling about this invite!

  533. Not an Expert November 18, 2010 11:06 pm

ESPN and Las Vegas (Sam Boyd’s Corp) must have had some influence for Hawaii to be given the invite to the MWC. I was told several years back by someone in the Boyd Corp. that they are always working to have Hawaii in the conference with Las Vegas, which so happens is the MWC. Who else would have put in a good word for UH?

Just looking ahead, UH football goes in the MWC and the rest of the programs in the Big West. Opportunity for the athletic department to really take UH up the ladder. If the MWC for some reason never gets to AQ status or even if they did, this move can be be a stepping stone for all sports to be part of the PAC-12 in the future.

Football must continue to win and I believe the sports like basketball, baseball, volleyball will not only make for better UH teams, but will probably help recruiting for the BW teams with Hawaii in the conference, in turn making them more competitive. If these other sports starts to be as or more competitive than the Pac-12 and it appears Hawaii with their warrior nation on the west coast supporting attendance, can only help UH chances for Pac-12 membership.

Realize this maybe looking too far ahead however this should be a goal that needs to be part of UH’s athletic agenda as time goes forward. Learn from the past experience of just getting into the WAC and not having a bigger plan ahead.

  534. Ralph November 18, 2010 11:10 pm

a preview of the Big West, come to the SSC on Friday and watch the Na Wahine play Northridge at 5:30.. If you don’t have tickets to either the women or men’s game, come early and purchase the cheaper women game and remain for the men bb game. You need to find an empty seat but considering there are 10K seats and attendance around 4K finding a seat shouldn’t be a problem.

UNLV PRESIDENT, AIR FORCE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR, MAACO LAS VEGAS BOWL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR QUOTES ON HAWAII TO MWC:

“It’s either eat or be eaten, and I want to eat,” UNLV president Neal Smatresk said Thursday during the UNLV-Air Force football game at Sam Boyd Stadium. “My personal opinion is we need to be aggressive in building a league that’s competitive nationally, and with the number of WAC teams coming over, Hawaii helps us in addressing the league’s BCS status.”

“That’s a big part of it,” Mueh said. “But we had a good relationship with Hawaii when we were both in the WAC. I think it’s a good addition.”

    – Hans Meuh, Air Force AD

    .

“I think it would be a brilliant move,” she said. “They’ve got an excellent football program, and they would add another bowl to the league.

“As for our game, I would love to have Hawaii have a chance to play in Las Vegas. I know their fans love coming here, and I think it would be huge.”

  572. FX Broker Review November 24, 2010 8:22 pm

No single strategy can work all the time. Its good to follow a trend but there are times when we need to analyze if the current price level is peak or bottom and at those time we need to go against the recet trend or a reversal. Similarly technical works for short-term trading but we can’t avoid fundamentals. Even the combination of fundamental and technical can fail and we have to also understand the market or mass psychology and market perception. Above all the trading decipline can win the game. This is the reason that we kepy one section on Psychology on ForexAbode.com.

With Satellite Direct, you get unlimited 24/7 access to over 3,500 channels. That’s thousands more than cable TV, including dozens of hard to find international channels, as well as all the best premium, movie, sports, news, and music programming. And unlike traditional satellite television, you don’t need to worry about expensive equipment or heavy satellite dishes. In fact, you don’t even have to wait for installation at all!

Hi, possibly i’m being a little off topic here, but I was browsing your site and it looks stimulating. I’m writing a blog and trying to make it look neat, but everytime I touch it I mess something up. Did you design the blog yourself? Could someone with little experience do it, and add updates without messing it up? Anyways, good information on here, very informative.

(There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
