Turkey tales

Nice practice today. I would use the word “animated” but Jim Donovan told me I use that to describe every Thursday practice.

Anyway, Bryant Moniz was passing well, so he should be good to go. Jovonte Taylor had a nice kickoff return for a touchdown. And the Warriors worked on their new defensive scheme.

During the kick return drill, Brian Blumberg was about to attempt a kickoff. But the coaches wanted Scott Enos to make the kick. So they yelled for Blumberg to get out of there. Naturally, his teammates gave him grief, always yelling: “Get out of there, Blumberg!” And when he was summoned for a field-goal attempt, they yelled: “Are you sure you’re supposed to be in there, Blumberg?”

Later, linebacker Blaze Soares said to announce that it’s defensive tackle Rocky Savaiigaea’s birthday in the blog. I said, OK. Turns out it’s not Rocky’s real birthday. Blaze explains that Rocky’s, uh, high butt gives the appearance of a turkey tail. Nice.

OK, it was an animated practice.

Despite the heavy downpour, Navy practiced for about 90 minutes at Aloha Stadium yesterday. (The Midshipmen have practices scheduled there tonight and tomorrow.) It’s good to know that we have an all-weather military.

It also was good to see head coach Ken Niumatalolo and Ivin Jasper back in the islands. Jasper overcame a tough background — “I had a lot of  great support,” he said — and it’s cool to see that play-callers Jasper and UH’s Nick Rolovich are UH graduates.

How rainy was it last night? Kanoa Leahey, soaked to what became a disco-era shirt, mistook Princess Leila for a cameraman named “Kenny.” And your blog host, proving that bachi lives, took his umbrella and headed for the dugout … where he hydrofoiled down the steps. Back is sore, but the head is fine, thus avoiding a fourth concussion and another game-time decision. Darren Hernandez, who was sitting in the dugout, did say: “You OK?”

Here’s Kanoa:

Also, to Coach Niumatalolo and Coach Jaspar, a special welcome back to the land of Aloha and the land of the Rainbows. Thank you for being great representatives of UH football.

  14. Stephen Tsai November 26, 2009 5:56 am

I think one of our posters mentioned something about Navy having a power game. Not so. It’s a finesse offense. When you don’t get the biggest or fastest guys, you go to a counter offense. UH won’t get blown off the line. The Warriors might get tripped. Key is to play assignment football, DON’T pass rush (it creates gaps) and make tackles.

ST ~ It’s time for a Tsaiko personal injury attorney to step in and file some papers. The Stadium Authority needs to address some safety issues involved with that slip and fall.

  48. postmanke November 26, 2009 8:43 am

I have watched a handful of Navy games this year. Believe me, there will be “pancakes” served by the Navy offense. =) and it wont be the tripping variety.

Call it what you want, but when it looks like smash mouth, sounds like smash mouth… =) …you better show up and play smash mouth! – which i believe is the best counter against Da Option.

Power is not necessarily how big in football, but how you can leverage your lower center of gravity. You dont need to be big to have power. lowering your center of gravity = powerful hits, powerful blocks, etc.. Navy know’s leverage.. Watch Ram Vela OLB for Navy (prob the smallest LB in D1) and see what leveraging your lower center of gravity can do. So it may seem like the ball movement is countering but that powerful block will knock you on your okele. – no matter how big you are..

Great video from the past! Nice to see a packed Aloha Stadium watching a “boring” offense and winning! All the more reason to bring this offense back to Hawaii. And whom ever said the Triple Option doesn’t produce NFL prospects, last time I checked Jason Elam was still playing in the NFL. =)

  49. Byggdaddyjayz November 26, 2009 8:49 am

love the 1992 highlight video…again, how would this team look with white helmets with the white bottoms for home games?

  53. RedZone November 26, 2009 9:06 am

posmanke made a good point. Kelly McGill wasn’t big but he was one of my favorites at right tackle. Watch that Holiday video and you will see UHs oline blowing Illinois off the line of scrimmage near the goal line. I have seen this years Navy team play and their oline is explosive and if you are not ready they will knock you backwards.

  56. Kazz November 26, 2009 9:14 am

Things a UH fan should be thankful for this year so far:

-Bearing witness to one of the greatest moments in UH athletic history on October 17, 2009… Dave Shoji’s 1000th Win!!!

-Sweeping UCLA and Stanford in women’s volleyball.

-Green tops and white bottoms on the football team again!!!

    -Charlie Wade and Jonas Umlauft.

    -Dana Takahara-Dias and Shawna-Lei Kuehu.

-Concession prices ON CAMPUS remain at their lowered prices from last year considering the current economy.

-A football team that is showing hope of finishing the season strong!!!

    and MOST importantly:

-OUR UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI’I STUDENT ATHLETES FOR BEING THERE AND PLAYING FOR US AND NEVER GIVING UP ON US AS WE REAL FANS WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON THEM!!!

Without them, the everyday “bog” that can be life would consume a lot of us and drive us into insanity.

I’ve seen an all-white helmet with the tapa stripe down the middle and the tapa “H” on both sides and it looks nice, nothing spectacular.

Still personally love the dark DARK green current helmets though.

Hmmm… Well, maybe Elam wouldn’t have had to been called upon so many times if we threw the ball a little more back then yeah?

    Just speculation!!! 😉

    Kazz,

sooo thankful for the senior citizen community fan base for UH. Without them, i think they there might have been only 300 fans at last nights Wahine VB match. =)

It was another impressive turnout for yet another UH road game.

  61. FloridaTed November 26, 2009 9:26 am

    HAPPY THANKS GIVING !!! Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.

I hope all of you have plenty to be thankful for, as for myself I can barely count the blessings, as most of you know, and very little has anything to do with money.

I’m very grateful for my wife and children and especially the many terrific friends on this blog, who saw me through the valley of fear, only to come out stronger at the other end.

Have a wonderful day, everybody, I’m looking forward to my daughter and grandchildren.

  62. Kazz November 26, 2009 9:28 am

Things a UH fan should be thankful for this year so far (PART II):

-We’re not FSU women’s volleyball fans, or other WAC women’s volleyball fans in general… 😆

-We don’t physically assault our student athletes regardless of how “irate” we can get after a loss!

-We don’t pay over $75.00 for an individual game ticket for a football team that has all the resources to be in the national title picture, but falls short… AGAIN. 😆

  63. Kazz November 26, 2009 9:31 am

    postmanke,

College kids NO MORE MONEY FO TRAVEL!!! 😆

But yeah, how was it? Were you there last night? It really did seem like a smaller version of our home crowds, but still LOUD!!! The ESPNU coverage cut off after Coach Shoji and Kanani were interviewed as you can tell they couldn’t wait to get volleyball off the air… 🙄

On TV our Wahine seemed happy, not too excited, but happy.. 😎

  64. Kazz November 26, 2009 9:33 am

Hmmm… Even if only had 300 UH fans at the WAC volleyball tourney, that would STILL either equal or surpass the traveling fans for any of the other WAC teams.

    I think…

  66. Kekoa November 26, 2009 9:42 am

Like it or not, Da Run ‘n Shootz is the Warrior offense. When the people in charge decide to change to something else, I’ll continue to support what they decide.

They have incorporated a little bit of run option into the offense already. Check the stats, notice how many run/pass plays per game. Looking fairly balanced huh? Now look at the run/passing yards…same thing.

It’s nice to speculate on running what.ever, a bit more, but the fact remains – the base offense is still, the run and shoot.

IMHO ~ We just need to finish in the end zone a lot more often instead of stalling out inside the RZ.

    Go Warriors!
    Beat Navy!

  67. jm2375 November 26, 2009 9:55 am

Happy Thanksgiving Tsai-kos!! Hope everyone has a great day with all the great fuuud.

Too bad the fb games today suck. Why is it always the pussycats and the cowgirls? and the fraiders? puhleeeeze…

Kazz – the WAC will lose *lots* of money having tournaments at a neutral site. I vote for having it every year at the SSC. Doubt that’ll ever happen. Coach Sealy mentioned that the schools don’t get reimbursed for their travel to the tournament. Perhaps Hawaiian Air and the hotel industry could step it up. Shouldn’t cost too much – 25 people max for each team?

  68. cavewarrior November 26, 2009 10:07 am

How ’bout this d-line scheme..using the $-defense, but align 1 yard back from scrimmage ..on the snap, jump to avoid cut block, then attack.
    May be…May be NOT 🙂

    GO Warriors!!!

  69. madeinhawaii November 26, 2009 10:10 am

    Kekoa,

I think we need the deep pass threat. We still don’t have that part of the game. Without that, it’s hard to really spread out the field and open up the game. Two or three TDs from around the 50 yard line would help us out a lot.

  70. wafan November 26, 2009 10:14 am

  85. postmanke November 26, 2009 10:42 am

    Kazz,

Turnout was great for being at a neutral site. I really dont think Vegas is much of a “neutral” site for UH teams. I was talking to some die hard fans, they liked the over all tourney turnout in LV than Reno. It was about as loud as it can be for a one sided match. =)

  86. d1島 November 26, 2009 10:43 am

    Bulla,

I was chkg out some flight scenarios to VA as well. Seems like the only way to get there from here is via 2 stops somewhere on a minimum of an 11 hour odyssey….

Hoping maybe we have a reason to head over to Salem in a few weeks!

  87. Old School Dave November 26, 2009 10:44 am

Re: #48 postmanke & #53 Red Zone: Good points about leverage and explosiveness on the offensive line with the Navy option (a mirror of UH teams from 87-94). You dont’ need offensive linemen of the 6.5 300 pounds variety with the Triple Option. UH, when, Paul Johnson was here, had great success with lineman like Amosa Amosa, Lene Amosa, Shawn Ching, Mitch Kaaialii, Doug Vaioleti, and others who were around 6.0 – 6.2 and 270-280 lbs range. These guys could move well and be effective blockers in that offensive scheme.

  88. d1島 November 26, 2009 10:45 am

    postmanke,

Lucky you! get to go watch the tourney. The UH fans sounded pretty loud during the last set.

  89. madeinhawaii November 26, 2009 10:45 am

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  92. Stephen Tsai November 26, 2009 10:58 am

When I was a kid, I met Ali, in 1970. I still have his autograph, which is my second-most treasured autograph. Yvonne Craig is No. 1.

  95. SteveM November 26, 2009 11:16 am

Wow…had my second-ever Tsai-ko related dream last night. The first was a couple years ago when Peaches was jabbing my ribs to wake me up from really loud snoring (for real). I kept telling her it was not my fault…Da Punchbowl Kid had to fix the (snoring) HTML code… 😕

Last night’s dream had a time stamp of Oct. 22 and ST was asking me about birthday party arrangement possibilities for himself. He said his birthday was just on October 19 (in the dream) and he wanted us to have a volleyball game for a party activity at his house. I pointed out his house may not be a good place for a volleyball game and many people. So we were considering asking the A-House’s to use their place when I woke up… 😆

Seriously…is there some significance to October 19?

  96. postmanke November 26, 2009 11:22 am

I met Ali as a kid too. was 12 or 13 yrs old. I will never forget it.. It was in Stockton, CA – on summer basketball camp break from Hawaii. He was staying at the Holiday Inn – (nicest place at the time in Stockton) we walked up to the bodyguards standing guard in front of his room. shaking, asked if we could take a picture with Ali. one of the guards opened the door and asked Ali – and there he was, lying on the bed with 4 gorgeous scantly clad females. He stood up, invited me in the room did a few “fight poses” with me while my cousin shot a role of film in about 5 seconds. It was awesome – he was the greatest!

  97. d1島 November 26, 2009 11:35 am

Looks like there could have been lots of “disco shirts” last night.

  98. d1島 November 26, 2009 11:36 am

Too bad the WB doesn’t have anyone who can give local weather updates from the stadium area anymore. 🙄

  99. postmanke November 26, 2009 11:40 am

I think you got a good plan.

    zzzzzz……

  107. postmanke November 26, 2009 11:57 am

    D1

I live in vegas. the only places i go in the casino is the poker rooms and the sports books other than that i dont play. =)

too early in the season to play the home dogs in NCAAB so just the poker rooms now.. =)

  108. Stephen Tsai November 26, 2009 12:02 pm

I think too many poker players watch too much ESPN.
The hoodie. The iPod. The Christina Aguilera sunglasses.
    Sheesh.
If you’re going to pose, do it at a no-limit table.

  109. Stephen Tsai November 26, 2009 12:04 pm

Nobody brags about a golf score.
Nobody brags about Vegas winnings. It’s always, I lost my arse in Vegas.
But everybody claims to win in poker, because there’s a feeling that it’s a skill, and nobody wants to admit he’s a lousy poker player.
It’s like MMA. Nobody has a losing record.

  110. postmanke November 26, 2009 12:06 pm

ST, you been watching Big Boy Kekaula at the tables? LOL

  111. madeinhawaii November 26, 2009 12:09 pm

    Postmanke..

Ah! That explains the “Christina Aguilera sunglasses”comment. 😉

  112. Stephen Tsai November 26, 2009 12:12 pm

I was just wondering what happened to good ol’ poker face.
By the way, I don’t play poker. I’m lousy at it.

  113. postmanke November 26, 2009 12:14 pm

I would claim my big screen TV, carpeting in my house along with a set of Callaway clubs + $1800 cash in 3 yr old daughters coffee can due to playing poker last year in small $1-2 no limits tables mostly having fun against tourist.

You dont win all the time.. but if you got the time you can win vs the tourist..

hint – the Monte Carlo is a very touristy poker room. =)

  114. Stephen Tsai November 26, 2009 12:14 pm

I do OK in blackjack, but to me, it’s like baseball.
Always gotta go by the book.
And every time I double down, I never get a picture card, So I only double if I have an ace, and the dealer is showing a 4, 5 or 6.
I also have my no-bust policy. So if the dealer is showing a picture card, and I have a 14, 15 or 16, I don’t take a card. Live to fight another day. That was Wilton’s philosophy on why it is better to float serve than serve it into the net .

  115. postmanke November 26, 2009 12:17 pm

I’m not a good poker player but i am better than any tourist that seem to play in a hurry… I hate playing in the local casinos – those 70 year old granny’s got game!

  116. postmanke November 26, 2009 12:19 pm

    Yep… keep it in play!

  117. BG November 26, 2009 12:27 pm

The very best of wishes for a HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all the bloggers.

Amidst the turkey and trimmings, special thoughts go out to the Tsaikos who have met and overcome great adversity this year…Florida Ted…Pomai…Curveball…Hawaiianbod…to name a few. Thank you for sharing your strength and courage with us! Blessings are all around us, if we just take the time to see. Peace for all.

  118. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc November 26, 2009 12:27 pm

A quick aside: If there are people here on this blog who would like to see leglized gambling in Hawai`i, it will definitely be on the table during the 2011 Legislature. Think the civil unions, Mufi’sTrain, and teachers’ furloughs got nasty? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

Does anyone have any idea how much gambling on sporting events goes on here in Hawai`i? Over the Internet? Has there ever been a gambling scandal here where points were shaved or coaches/players got caught spending their spare change on the outcome of any game in any sport?

  119. BG November 26, 2009 12:28 pm

Bulla…great news on the Beast…he will represent!

D1…sorry to hear about #2 son! May he heal soon!

  120. RedZone November 26, 2009 12:30 pm

What ever happened to that wahine pool player? I think they call her the black widow. I think I could have beaten her in my prime.

but then again she could have taken my shirt, pants, bvds…………..

  121. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 26, 2009 12:31 pm

First of all Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Eat, enjoy, shop (tomorrow), spend time w/ family and all that good stuff.

Beautiful piece written about Tim Tebow. He really is Florida’s “Colt Brennan.” The man is a spectacular person both on and off the field.

  122. vballfan1 November 26, 2009 12:33 pm

Hi Stephen any idea how the UH warrior volleyball scrimmages against Stanford went??

  123. bighilofan2 November 26, 2009 12:34 pm

  126. bighilofan2 November 26, 2009 12:41 pm

Tebow is awesum! if Navy saw him coming, and knowing his rep in the PI last season, they’d all be going 😯 no way! 😀

  127. postmanke November 26, 2009 12:41 pm

    Doc,
umm, yeah gambling over the internet. I help start / consult a upstart little sports book in the Dominican Republic in 1996 and 97. We had 16 operators answering phones. that was a tiny operation. I walked into sportsbooks in the DR running out of + 10,000 sq ft homes with 100-200 operators. I would say there were about 20 of those sports books just in the DR and that was in 1996 right when placing a bet on the computer was coming about. I would bet the action is over a few hundred fold what vegas takes in.

Online gaming is massive, most of the action was taken from Hawaii in the book we were at. – kinda intentional tho.. lol

  128. bighilofan2 November 26, 2009 12:43 pm

c’mon Mack. show me some 😯

I WILL NOT ACCEPT MEDIOCRE. I don’t care if your teammates are from home. NO WAY MEDIOCRE! remember that, please!

about autographs….when i was a youngster wilt the stilt chamberlain was playing for the harlem globetrotters at the civic. i ran down court before the game and asked mr. chamberlain for his autograph. he told me my to fly away birdie in his most grouchiest growl.

25 years later he walks in to my club expecting first class treatment, cut in front of the waiting line, comp drinks and all.

he says, “do you know who i am?”.

i says, “yah, when i was kid i asked for your autograph and you told be to go fly a kite.”

    so he left.

  147. al November 26, 2009 2:03 pm

The University of Hawaii Warriors are in the WAC…

    YET!!!!

In a stat posted about some teams that have had better winning records than Charlie Weis at Notre Dame since 2005, they saw fit to select and mention on TELEVISION another WAC team that has a lower winning percentage than 35-18 in NEVADA….

    WE TODD DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙄

  154. postmanke November 26, 2009 2:50 pm

I am wondering if Mac is aware by watching the tapes that Navy O line move, sway in unison slightly before the ball is snapped. hoping the ref’s are alerted to this as it is hard to tell that it is a false start when they all move together…

  155. Kazz November 26, 2009 2:52 pm

    LET’S GO AGGIES!!!!

    Talk about wishful thinking!!!

AT LEAST COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS HERE TO SAVE THE DAY!!!

  156. madeinhawaii November 26, 2009 3:16 pm

    postmanke,

If indeed they do sway in motion before each snap and are prohibited from doing so, that could upset their entire rhythm… hmmm.. Hmmmm.. HMMM…

OR, if the Warriors could time the snap from that sway they could hit the line before Navy could initiate their chop block. Hmmmm.. Hmmm. HMMMM…

  157. Kazz November 26, 2009 3:26 pm

    Hmmmmmm hmmmmm….

On ESPN they just showed a bunch of Texans cheering around a LARGE fire… ***AHEM***

When Navy practiced in the stadium who paid for the utilities? State? Navy?

  194. wafan November 26, 2009 10:02 pm

The problem of slippery stairs at the stadium has always been. At one point they painted traction paint (with embedded sand) on the stairways.

  195. wafan November 26, 2009 10:03 pm

Apparently, the stairs are still slippery. Great. A case just waiting to happen. Especially with all the paper on the walkways.

  196. wafan November 26, 2009 10:03 pm

Glad you took some turkeys to the food bank. Earlier in the week I went to Safeway (turkeys were on sale for $5 each) with $50. At the check-out the manager asked what I was planning with ten birds (no tax on uncooked foods). When he found out they were going to the food bank he donated another ten birds right there with the stipulation I had to take all 20 to the food bank!

What the heck! Of course, all 20 were delivered within 20 minutes.

Helps with the manager was one of my students a bunch of years ago.

    wafan,

Had Thanksgiving dinner with my cousin, her family & my Mom. They are WVB season ticket holders. Tomorrow is dinner with my Mom & all of my brothers & sisters & their kids, except for my sis in SJ. So, it’s turkey dinner all over again! And then T-Gate on Sat. Making salad so I can eat healthy!

  207. Garret November 26, 2009 10:26 pm

Dan Hawkins will be Colorado’s coach when the Warriors go to Boulder next year…because Colorado apparently couldn’t come up with the $3.1 million they needed to buy him out.

What does University of Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn have to say to doubters and detractors who contend he’s sticking with football coach Dan Hawkins only because he couldn’t come up with the $3.1 million buyout and the millions more it would take to replace him?

    Twelve seconds of silence.

“Yeah,” Bohn responds when asked if he’s still there. “I’m thinking about what I want to say.”

    Another 18 seconds of silence.

“Our financial, uh … Can you ask me the question again so I can get a little excited?

  208. Garret November 26, 2009 10:28 pm

Recruiting trivia: Arizona has more football players from Hawaii than from Phoenix.

The Wildcats, in part because of coach Mike Stoops’ focus on Texas and California, have only 10 Arizonans — with three from the Phoenix valley. The Wildcats have more players from Hawaii than from Phoenix.
In 1999, by contrast, the UA had 32 Arizonans on its roster.

    wafan,

Mahalo for taking turkeys to your foodbank. I’ve been doing that for years. The foodbank here said that some people donate gift certificates for Thanksgiving dinners at some of the hotels. That’s a good donation to give to people who don’t have a full kitchen to cook in.

  210. Garret November 26, 2009 10:40 pm

I am thankful for the 3-game winning streak the Warriors are on…as things could have really been different on the blog and elsewhere if things had gone differently.

I am thankful that the Warriors have the momentum from their winning streak to give them a positive push for the Navy game.

I am thankful to have been able to see the Warriors win on Saturday. I am even more thankful that I got to watch the game with brew808 and lakesidegt and that I got to see many other Tsaikos before and/or after the game.

I am thankful to have made the 8+ hour drive back to San Diego today, though we were on pace to make it back in 6.5 hours until there were *5* accidents in Orange County between Mission Viejo and San Clemente. People were driving crazily trying to make it to their Thanksgiving gatherings and I kept having to dodge cars.

I am thankful for my Mom’s pan lau lau…but wish that my Dad hadn’t told me that they were having pan lau lau in New Jersey today with my sister’s family and my sister’s best friend’s family.

I am thankful for the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner that our friend Louise (one of Lori’s best friends from Castle High) made for us. I am even more thankful that Louise taught Lori how to make awesome pickled mango and mango here is just 3 for $1 when on sale.

I am thankful to have a wife like Lori and for my two wonderful girls.

I am thankful for blogers like Garret, Kazz, etc… that make my day. I look forward to reading all your comments everyday. If I miss a day of the Tsaiko’s I feel I really missed out on life.

    Beat Navy ? – here’s how.

Give the players a 72-hour pass to “hit the beach” –

    Waikiki Beach.

They can also “hit” Korea moku.

Maybe they won’t remember that there’s a game on Sat nite.

    What a thought.

  213. Kazz November 26, 2009 11:23 pm

    Band “box”.

    Wafan,

I think they’re still using that one… The “rainbow UH” still lives.

-There’s that one gray stool I still see on the sidelines at the Stan Sheriff Center.

-Last year I remember seeing the UH rainbow logo on the men and women locker room labels at the Stan Sheriff Center.

-There’s the athletic complex directory sign on the first level with the UH rainbow logo.

Just dug up my NCAA Football 2009.

Still had my season saved to go up against Navy… 😎

    Final (on Heisman-level difficulty):

    #1 UH 41
    #9 Navy 6

    Box Score:
    UH 1stqtr- 7, 2ndqtr 10, 3rdqtr 14, 4thqtr 10
    Navy 1stqtr- 0, 2ndqtr 0, 3rdqtr 6 (blocked PAT), 4thqtr 0

Navy = 75 yards passing and 168 rushing.
UH = 401 yards passing and 77 rushing.

Used a base 5-2 quite a bit along with the 46-bear defense. The CPU-control Navy Midshipmen really didn’t try to spread out the field. They got some big 3rd down conversions. I just simply threw in a nickel 4-2-5 to put and end to this and it led to many-a-sack.. 😆

On D, I usually control the DE’s anyway, and off the snap once you shed your initial block, the backfield is yours for the taking. Got three QB sacks and 4 tackles for loss.

Funny, I don’t think the game is set up to include cut-blocks. 😯

    iwonderwhytheyhateme,

I go to the 2015 BCS National Championship Game against TEXAS now… I’ll let you know the results… 😎

  215. Kazz November 26, 2009 11:42 pm

    Ugh,

    Work tomorrow… Long day too… 🙁

And I have to say it again,

    On this Thanksgiving,

I’d like to thank all the wonderful young men and women that represent the University of Hawai’i in the field of collegiate athletic competition.

Without them, I don’t know what the heck people like me and many here would do… SERIOUSLY.

They provide us with many reasons to cheer and to cry and punch the walls sometimes, but ultimately, they provide us with memories and more reasons to be PROUD of being from Hawaii.

I am thankful for Chawan_cut & his news posts!

I am also thankful to have a bed to sleep in.

Good night! You guys are priceless!

T’was the night before the big Navy game

And for Coach Mack and his wife the butterflies came

Not the ones that have beautiful spots

But the ones that were making their stomach into knots

The night went slowly by and sleep was partly denied

But the misses remained up and stayed at his side

She saw the twisting and turning of his emotion

And could feel the half opened eyes speaking of devotion

Naturally to her, she knew of the hopes of a bowl bid

And, too, felt the words of hatred during the team’s skid

So as the night wears on, frames of plays fills his mind

Countering the fullback dive he has a defense to find

Respecting the three phases of the option he knows

Disguising the defense’s plays is the way he goes

The misses silently looks on with a tear in her eye

And a divine look out into the dawning sky

Like others have mentioned, mostly going on their hunches, I also have a good feeling of Hawaii’s chances against Navy. I think the safeties have to be a disruption and cause a lot of havoc and spy the QB’s options. I see RJ peaking in his play. And wish that Paipai would start.

  218. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc November 27, 2009 12:13 am

The winds are blowing hard and the rain is pounding heavily here in Kailua.

As usual on Thanksgiving, we went to a potluck coordinated by our church. Unfortunately, shortly after starting to eat, the elderly woman sitting across from me who is in the mid-cycle of Alzheimer’s got sick. In order not to join the Ralphing Brigade, I got up and walked around outside for about 15 minutes until the mess got cleared up. By then, I’d lost my appetite so I ate a couple of pumpkin cookes and drank some coffee for this year’s Thanksgiving Dinner.

Wonder where the Wahine will play next? Hope it will be in a location where there are some UH supporters nearby? Anyone from here going to attend the next two rounds between December 3 & 6?

Wonder what the Weather Gods are going to come up with on Saturday night. Well, at least the two teams won’t have to wear snow gear. I still remember watching (on tv) a game in Denver years ago when the snow was so deep that while the teams were at one end of the field, groundskeepers were clearing off the other end. Still, there were a number of guy fans who were bare from their waists to their necks with their chests painted in the team’s colors. Talk about devotion to the cause. Most of them wore ski masks – not sure if it was to hide their faces or protect them from the wind.

Hope that all is well with everyone. BIG QUESTION – will the flags’ placement on Saturday be corrected?

    Happy Happy, everyone!

    No. 154
No, UH doesn’t watch any videos.
    It doesn’t do any homework.
It just waits for a poster to make suggestions and — doink! — it learns from that.
    LOL.
