Lineman commits to UH
Pierce Burton of Sacramento’s Rio Americano High has accepted a scholarship offer from the Warriors.
Burton is 6 feet 7 and 250 pounds. He played on the offensive and defensive lines, but, more than likely, he projects to play offensive tackle for the Warriors.

It’s an interesting debate as to whether a player should remain in school or apply for the NFL draft.
Then again, the local media should understand. Two of the top sportscasters — Kanoa Leahey and Robert Kekaula — opted to leave early. LIz Chun stayed, but then again, she’s a Rough Rider so she would have succeeded, anyway. Too bad it can’t be like it was for aspiring print journalists, who used to be allowed to work at The Advertiser and Ka Leo at the same time.

Alright another OT.
hey numero uno, my first time..Liz and Al, you snooze you lose
Amazing.
Al and LizK were sitting in the lead and — whoosh — Ralph speeds into first place.
Welcome, Pierce!
Nitey nite!
what i am not first!??
10 or <
and he is a freshman…alright, chance to develop him for 2010
I brushed my teeth.
NOW I will snooze.
Congrats, Ralph!
Of course, he’s confident enough to believe he can play within the next two years.

OK, I’m going to leave the office now.
listed at 230 lb TE by Scout and EspnU, also OT….I guess 230 okay for OT in HS but hopefully ST is correct that he is up to 250…take away the baby tsaiko fat and add muscle mass to become a 300 pounder…
With his height and hoops skills maybe he can develop into the next Travis LaBoy as a rush end.
Hi Tsaikos. boy you’re fast.
Pierce Burton
Welcome to the Warriors!!
A-house you missed the boat again…..by the time you read this, Pierce Burton will be old news…..
ST be careful, the windward side is windy, JMxxxx reported electrical problems in Keolu earlier this evening….I hope the freeway and tunnels have lights
averaged 5 tackles per game with 5 sacks.
played some basketball too.
scoutdotcom says he’s 260
Jordan Loeffler
you’re D1 now. bend doze pipes! don’t let deze odda guyz get anyting on you!
Go Warriors.
with all these new offers I wonder where Jantz Steele and Shane Austin really stand in the qb rotation. I know ST listed Shane as #3 going into spring but if they are not offering a scholie does it mean they are destined to the scout team and the incoming HS qb are projected to be ahead of them in the Fall.
and when somebody tells you dat you can be dis or dat, you tell em dat i can be dat too, den go do what you like do best.
but meantime, bend doze pipes, run da shots, and bend samoa pipes
da best part is you can eat plenny plenny corn. make grandpa proud!
Ted Hendricks, aka the stork, Raider Nation history….play him on the outside and use his height on the defensive side
from the sacramento bee…
Pierce Burton, Rio Americano
T • 6-7 • 260
• 2007 stats: None as a tackle.
• Interest from: Stanford, Oregon State, Washington, Sacramento State, UC Davis, Utah.
• The skinny: Was a blocking TE as a junior new to football before gaining 30 pounds. Growing into a Pacific-10-size tackle with superb grades, too.
Awesome news….
Any news if LaCount is enrolled this Spring?
Happy 22nd Birthday to #22 Jayson “Baba” Rego
Ralph,
our coaches gotta be more upfront with the QBs on being QBs. we get plenny QBs in high school playing odda positions now. Steele is a great athlete. play him in anodda position, whatevas, but play him.
Good specimen, only a freshman. How good is he really? Looks like our line depth is building.
Good night gang, need some zzzz’s. Manuscript editing sucks.
sounds like an offensive tackle to me. i know one ex-all wac warrior tackle once told me that basketball players make great ot’s.
he was 230 in his junior year.
someone posted that Lacount will be here by this summer….mid year transcripts take time…my daughter graduated Dec. 2008 from UH West Oahu, and we requested transcripts to be sent to grad. school. transcripts application states it will take 8 to 10 weeks from commencement date to receive transcript validating graduation and all requirements met….
Ooop.. Sorry.. Never see yesterday’s remarks by the Guru on Lacount..
ralph (re: #23)….sometimes one needs to read between the lines.
if his JC take as long as UH WO, he won’t know until the latter part of February before UH can validate that LaCount actually fulfilled all requirements, AA degree….
the mad stork eh?
eh ralph, that’s going waaaay back.
Called the Jedi Master today and told him that Steele, Shane, Greg Salas, and Rick Taylor have begun “Voluntary” workouts this week.
Rick and Greg are roommates in Hawaii. They began working out in California immediate after the Fiesta Bowl, which Rick attended. Rick was sidelined with a torn pectorial muscle last spring, then had a hammy and groin injury in the Fall. This is Rick’s 4th spring at Manoa (he was an ’06 greyshirt). He’s been in the Run-N-Shoot since his playing days at Nease HS with Tim Tebow and knows the offense like the back of his hand… Wishing the best for #9 in ’09
sounded like lacount may have still been short a few courses.
Al reading between the lines by too many of us lead to rumors, and what someone says is taken as news…best to depend on Tsai. remember Keahi! Guava had some inside info but the tone of his insights and reports was more to put someone down while giving us the scoops…jmho..
it does take time in that our requirements here are tougher than the state of california’s public college/university system when it comes to accepting credits. i could never figure that one out.
a course at a cali jc will be accepted by the university of cal schools such as ucla, davis, berkeley, et al but would not get past uh. it happened to me and it still is happening today.
Ooop.. Sorry I “Texted” the great one
Al i read the history profile of the raiders…ha ha…the Raider nation needs a gunslinger for a qb like the days of stabler and lamonica
Al you posting from the cruise ship
in some cases the lines were filled in.
but, yeah i hear you.
i don’t like to discuss rumors. just putting two and two together from various sources. also, why would we recruit three qb’s?
…as john fink says, “think about it”.
Bigwave he is on the road heading home, i hope he doesn’t try to text you and drive…he is a novice with his texting
ralph, stabler was one of my all time favorite raiders. i also,(showing my age) got to watch jim plunkett destroy cal in “the game” his senior year.
Tsai gave Steele a high rating for arm strength altho Stretch, I believe, mentioned he thought Steele’s arm strength was average…
lots of qb are good athletes, maybe an opportunity for Steele to become a slot or wr….
yup, ralphie.
i thought both bay area teams missed the boat when they didn’t select colt brennan. i really thought that he would have gone to the niners, raiders, or the dolphins.
ah, what do i know.
bigwave dave……whoa the surf is pounding brah.
Stabler has as many interceptions as he has Tds…never stopped him from going over the top and the raiders were winners during his tenure…
how fast is steele jantz?
i think now, that brett leonard is in a great spot to be one of this year’s recruits to crack the starting lineup. the four hs olinemen will probably be a year or two away. altho i really like ma’afala’s chances primarily based upon his size, what little i saw of him, and because of his genes.
parts of north dakota at -39 degrees below….why would people want to suffer for 3 to 4 months in ice cold weather…imagine spring football practice without a covered dome…..
I thought June mentioned that it takes a while to develop an oL player and thats why he prefers HS OL recruits…Look at Hisatake and Leatigaga, the clock is ticking fast for these two and they haven’t made it to the field often enough…
well, leatigaga got injured his first year and redshirted. he is a defensive end who may see duty at dtackle this year.
hisatake needs an opportunity. he didn’t play football until he was at san mateo jc. he played dtackle which was a wise move for him since it is less complicated than otackle. jj switched him because he has good feet and balance (you know the same “basketball players” make good otackles theory).
should have made vincent smalls a linebacker or strong safety
Al ditto on Ma’afala. I like what I saw of him this year. I thought he was the sleeper in this class.
Welcome Pierce. I know people like the OTs big but I prefer them to be agile and quick. I hope this guys a freak. You need a freak to counter a freak.
jj may have said that but then there were tala esera and samson satele both 4yr starters.
labrat…i freaking agree with you. i have to laugh because i too call some of these athletic marvels a freak.
it just ain’t fair.
didn’t vincent smalls tryout for football after his basketball days?
back when there was a mckinley reynolds who played running back and power forward at 6’3″ for the bows. i think he was also 26 yrs old too.
too bad hasiak doesn’t make another turnaround. he could be the next four year starter on the oline.
and mark sanchez declares for the draft inspite of pete carroll’s resistence. in fact, pete was so pissed he stormed past sanchez during the press conference.
I guess all those coaches leaving had something to do with his decision. Pete has a lot of work to do next year.

bigwave….har, har, har, do you have any weight to lose at 155lbs?
we actually started a rather informal weight loss contest again since last year the best contestant gained two pounds. so far only one contestant is officially entered since she was the only one to forward her weight.
so officially speaking, mei ling is the only one and her weight is………..mmpht mmpty mmmphht.
Al,
I know of a couple spots that were going off 6-8 feet and perfect, yesterday. The bummer part is that was at work and by Saturday the winds will turn North and Blow out everywhere… Oh except da addah secret spot which should catch the wrap and welcome the North Wind. I may bust out the full wetsuit on Saturday.
Homey,
You get one wetsuit? Oh and I’m talking da Neopreme Kine, not da addah kine…
Al,
in HS I was 115 lbs and could almost touch the rim…
Oh wait that was at Heeia Elem 8 foot….
neva mind…
bigwave….awhile ago i passed by queen’s and saw perfect glassy 4-5 ft barrels. auwe. almost when bust out the old board that is catching cobwebs in the garage.
i think cat was there.
in hs i graduated fifty pounds lighter. hahahaha.
wait, was i taller too?
actually, true fact. a few years out of hs i took weight training class for one credit. all i did was leg presses. in the end i could touch the rim, ten feet. but, now it is back to norm at 7 feet. ahahahaha.
Cat was night surfing?
lights out now.
On this day, 01/16/2005 Adriana Iliescu became the oldest woman in the world to give birth at 66.
Today her child turns 4 and is escorted to preschool by his/her 70 mom.
aloha folks….
may a hedge of protection surround you and your household in the next few hours
Good morning gang,
Unless it was posted earlier, I see/read that the Buffalo Bills have signed, C.J. Hawthorn, among others to their reserve future free agent contracts??, that was a mouth-full, whatever that means?
Good Morning Tsaikz!
Hope all are hunkered down and ready for this passing storm. Got a good dose of rain this morning. Windz picking up.
roysan16,
UH has already paid for official recruiting visits this recruiting season for recruits that are committed to other schools. There is a recruit who is supposed to visit this weekend I believe who committed earlier this week to another school. If UH openly recruits players that have committed to other schools, then we can’t really complain about other schools recruiting UH commits.
Welcome to the Warriors Pierce Burton!
6’7″ OT who will enter as a freshman seems to be exactly what the team needs. I hope that the coaches can teach him the proper technique and that he puts in the work in the weight room and class room to develop himself to reach his potential.
I hope that everyone makes it through the storm okay.
The weird thing about Pierce’s recruiting is that ST’s article seems to indicate that he had no other offers. An athletic 6’7″ lineman who did well at a combine should have received more interest than that…but players slip through the cracks all the time.
Great Morning All!
Terrific news about Pierce Burton! 🙂
Dats wat I’m talkin’ ’bout… 6’7″, rangy, lots of room to “fill-in”, and the bonus of having been a bball player…
Go get ’em Tommy!
Show’em where the weight room is, tell ’em when to show up for kau kau…
….and it’s another HMA victory!
Have a great day erryboddy!
HiHo….
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
BigWave96744
Al
Ralph
Interesting posts last nite. now I’m thinking to myself,
how long is it gonna take to turn our oline around.
wishing the very best for Warriors in recruiting for the OL in 09.
:tv:
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Woke up with a mean headache. The wind was WHIPPIN!! Bummed the I woke up ’cause I was having a cool dream of camping at the beach and seeing huge schools of nehu with smaller groups of halalu and large papio cutting into them for breakfast. I was just going to my car for my poles when I woke up…
It seems the JC guys are getting impatient waiting Williams will visit Idaho this weekend not to worried about it but if Memphis or one of those other schools or a PAC 10 school offers he could be gone. Seems like UCLA is trying to recruit all of the guys we have been recruiting since day 1 interesting I wonder if this is some Norm Chow justice for JJ being picked over him back in the day…
Colt on BC show right now…
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Welcome to the Warrior Ohana Pierce Burton.
Great to have an OLine commit. It looks like he has a lot of room to fill out the body.
Tony T,
Coach Mack,
Jimmy Donovan
you see what bstunna2002 is saying in 87? help cut the red tape by getting those Admin types in nice clothes to get off their duffs (no offense meant Duffer) and do what they can to help Warrior Nation.
At the least give Tony and Coach the verbal ammo necessary to hold onto our commits.
Hiya LizK.
ho boy, sounds like you’re a real fishy kinda person. 😀 😆 😛
so, howz the waves on the North Shore? they prolly going change the High School races this weekend from Kailua Hi to Hilo bay, cuz of surf conditions. the one mans going off at Honaunau though.
have a great day Tsaikos.
exme wooooooooooosshhhhhhhh
Good Morning Everyone. I hope everyone makes it through the storm safely and with no damage to property.
be safe tsaikos,
interesting that there is so much traffic on the highway, when schools are closed, city and state offices closed, UH is closed…hmmmmm
good news on the OT, interesting his size did not pop him on someone else’s radar, but be that as it may, good rack to work with.
3 words of advice

and when you learn those, the next 3 are

dj,
sorry i didn’t make it out to meet you; things were hectic in waikiki that day. but there will be a next time 🙂
Garret,
I agree with you on this OT not being on the proverbial ‘big boy’ radar, but who knows, he could be a late bloomer. remember what one of the proverbial greatest basketball coaches to ever live, John Wooden said….
” i can teach’em to play, but i can’t teach’em to grow ”
he went on to have a little success for UCLA back in the day, small kine legend i think, haha
nice. is this surprise 1 of 2? im going to assume yes. that means OT competition will be between Kia, Hisatake, and Leonard this spring. Will Adrian Thomas make a push? Will Letuli get forced back to OT? Can Lacount make it to UH within the next 3 days?
Bulla,
No probs. Like you said, next time.
It’s nice and sunny on the Windward side now.
I guess that’s a bad omen, huh? Calm before the storm, and all of that.
By the way, how come the Waimanalo homeless are always ignored? It was that way with the big New Year’s Eve flood in the 1980s. It’s that way now. There are a lot of homeless on the Windward side, but they seem to be left out of the warnings.
But I digress.
I always complain about that to our editors.
They always smile.
Then I think they go to their computers, link to MapQuest and type in “Waimanalo.”
Re: Radar.
I think a lot of the prospects in this class weren’t on the “radar” until after they verbaled.
Not even UCLA was on any of the Long Beach Poly guys until the past couple of months.
By the way, a lot of those things on Scout and other online scouting services are pretty dated. Burton hasn’t been a tight end for a year.
Here’s wishing Hawaii’s Tadd Fujikawa a good outing today at the Sony Open. With a 120 pm tee off this afternoon, continued best wishes of good weather, little wind and fortuitous bounces coming his way. Currently he is one under after the first round. And with projected cut at probably one or two under, a good showing today would do alot in getting his pro career in taking flight. So make us proud, Tadd.
I wonder how the somewhat SHORT QBs (Nielsen, Shutter, Graves) will do with the TALL OL (Burton, Leonard, Loeffler, LaCount) that we’re starting to recruit? I guess if they can find the “passing lanes” they should do fine with tipped balls. But will they even be able to find their receivers? Just wondering…
re: Recruiting radar
It seems like some scouting is done the way Burger King used to be purported to do their sight selection: just watch for where the next McDonald’s is opening then buy the property across the street!
d1
so is this lazy method of some PAC 10 recruiting (poaching) or is it a confirmation on the recruits with talent and potential that UH coaches have been going after? Guess the latter eh?
server clock plus 7 – 8 mins.?
Must be the high winds
tipped balls are more of a throwing motion thing than a tall oline thing. GA’s passes weren’t getting tipped till he king of started to sling it side arm kind of the same problem Colt had against smart d- ends and dt’s. I don’t believe the qb height will really be a problem being that were in the shotgun they have a clearer picture of the field as opposed to being under center then trying to drop back to pass. Who ever heard of a 6’7 qb anyway…
Welcome Pierce Burton, you can be a warrior too!
Good morning Tsaikos!
Welcome to the Warrior ohana Pierce!
No internet since at least 6 pm last night. Thanks Oceanic. How am I supposed to get any work done? 😡 At least I can still watch tv. There’s a Battlestar Galactica marathan on.
702WN,
As fans, we’d like to believe it’s the latter! 😉
bstunna2002,
Same ol’ “all other things being equal…” kinda thing….
Top 200! 🙂
With the Pac-10 you got a bunch of scabs first you got Mike”scab”Riley now Rick”recruit your commit”Neuheisal I guess I would pull out all the stops if I was being out recruited by a school with half the recruiting budget and they had to fly most of their recruits over.
😳 no can spell wit dis phone … marathon.
Good morning everyone!

well going to make more kope so be back in a few minutes.
…and for al,
Don’t buy the Service Agreement! 😆 👿 😉
…I just found a CompUSA gift card the other day. 🙁
Koakane — got you.
All this waiting on the weather is making me hungry…
ST: any update on the cal-poly commits?
Hey no paper again today???? What’s up with that??? They jack up the price and lower the service??
If wasn’t for ST I would jump to the other guys. They have been recruiting me. Tough being loyal.
Welcome to the Warriors, Pierce. Gotta love your name. Sounds like a movie star.
I am new at this and want to blog, but feel kind of out of place when most of tthe blog entries are going on a personal note. But I will get in there when I have some things I want to say. In a few months, I will have lots of time on my hand as they will (State) will pull a 12-52 ruling on me. Which means that all employees who have retired from the state and did not have a year of seperation of service will be terminated. It does not matter that I have given them 20 years after retirement. They have terminated these staff on the state and disstrict level and is now in the process of developing a plan at the school level and when this plan is in place, I will be terminated. So at this time I will be a more active blogger wfith time on my hand and I am a late sleeper and a early riser.
Momo,
That’s a bittersweet comment you posted.
While I look forward to reading more from you, it’s unfortunate that you are being forced to leave your job.
Best wishes…
Momo- never mind what personal things we talk about- that’s just the background hum. You can start a topic (like you just did) and peeps will jump in. What is a separation of service?
koakane- very still here now. Birds are singing. I just woke up again with the same pounding headache- shoulda been in my office at 8. argh. oops- the wind is picking up again.
Momo — just jump in and blog. You are always welcome. I don’t know the ruling, but I see a lot of part-time teachers in regular ed. and resource positions being terminated. As an outside observer, I see all the people that have actual daily contact with the students being axed while the admin and other expense positions that don’t require an Education degree grow…. but don’t get started…. sigh.
Is there a freeze on hiring?? Would it hinder UH from filling the open coachs position??
LizK,
Isn’t “separation of service” like what jmxxxx had with her Oceanic Cable last night? 😆
Pierce can you shoot the three?
d1…. 😆
OK. Wind is picking up again and clouds are gathering again.
by my count, 40 verbs this recruiting season–that prolly includes scholies for 2009, grayshirts for 2010 and walk-ons-and perhaps a few on the bubble, academically.
Still a huge verb list that places Hawaii way out in front of WAC brethern Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada or La Tech.
Pierce appears to be a project with his size and 1 star rating.
One thing for sure, scholies and attrition remain fluid to player dynamics, injuries, academics and the lot.
LOI day will begin to sort out the qualifiers but as we have learned from the past–until summer camp roll calls are made and affirmed, our 2009 roster looks to be an adventure of 11th hour surprises.
LizK,
Radar shows you got incoming!
My paper just got delivered. Thanks ST.
lizk just talked to my sister who lives on the east side and she says it is sunny with no wind. get in your car and head out there to clear up your headache bwhaaaaaaaaa
momo know how you feel and my sympathy to you. like peeps are saying just put down what you want, read, comment or lurk. finally you will feel like one of us and let me one of the first to welcome you to the blog. consider yourself a tsai-ko.
d1- yes, am watching local Doppler and the big radar. These little sunny interludes are good for my solar water heater 😆
WELCOME MOMO!
labrat is the paper the morning edition or home final ❓
I subscribe to the morning edition but I just got the home final.
Liz
Seperation of service is when some one retires from his state job, he or she must leave for what they call12-52 or one year before they can go back to work..It is a legal isssue which may cost the state much monies if they keep us on the staff.
Steve
That or this issue may be the reason why they are terminated from the job. There are so many of us working and we are the strenght of the school which makes it run and wisth all of us being let go, it will cause such an inpact on the school level, they are now drawing up plans to replace us which should take the rest of this school year.
D1
Yes, I have worked for 20 years after retirement at Olomana school and is #2 with years of service to the school but it is an AG ruling and there is no grandfather clause for this issue.
Correction I just checked all my deliveries are the home final. They usually come early in the morning.
Ralph:
You are correct – Pierce is OLD news by now, but new to me!
I wonder how you guys/gals can stay up so late. Me, if can sleep by 2100 hours, I’m gone!!
A-house,
Does that apply in Vegas, too?
Welcome Momo!
Thanks for arranging for our tickets at the Sugar Bowl last year. Are you and the Mrs. looking forward to the LV gathering?
What do you think of the recruiting season. Isn’t it something? They all must feel like they’re at a real Cattle Call.
So who is the guy in school now, a walk-on, at 6’3″, who is supposed to compete for PT at DE and on special teams? I know the question came up after Miano’s radio interview with BC, but no one mentioned his name.
Anyone know?
Here come the rain in Hono… justifies not ringing the lunch cow bell… 🙁
Mr Tsai
Left early for jobs….Left college early correct?
A-House ~ What time is Reveille at your bunk house? Is Mrs A-House up early chasing that newspaper boy who lives down the street for her paper?
SteveM,,
Don’t wait for this storm that is supposed to justify the amount of closings on Oahu.. you’ll starve to death.
Thanks, Momo. hmmm. Where’s the aloha? This is one area that gets my hackles up. When NCLB fed “standards” became a criteria, it (imho) failed to recognize the value of some of our best child-motivators in the DOE. Rather than look at results, it looked at compliance with fed standards for education and Poof.
Now we have a bunch of young mainland “accredited” teachers that pass through our schools like they were revolving doors- never finding a place in the community, the kids’ minds and hearts, or their own sense of accomplishment.
Meanwhile our seasoned teachers, who have hung in there way beyond their normal retirement time to save the school from crashing while replacements are found are dumped.
Believe it or not, I’m not talking about Momo- I’m referring to what I have seen here on Kauai.
ok…no wonder I have a headache… sorry for the rant. But I’m posting it anyway.
😈
Gotta like the revamping that’s going on with the offensive line. Lots of potential coming in. Looking forward to seeing them develop!
And I’m never a fan of players leaving early. I didn’t think Sanchez should leave, too. There are a few exceptions, like I thought Davone was smart to leave early (until every other receiver left early too, and there was just too much depth). Wayne Hunter is an example of a guy I thought should have stayed.
Part of it is getting better on the field, but part of it is maturing as a person, too. Colt said on the radio the other day that it can be tough for young guys without families like him, cause there’s so much off time and so many opportunities to get involved in things that they shouldn’t be involved in. Staying for your senior year, being a team leader that everyone looks up to — that helps in the maturity, helps prepare them a little bit.
I think that relates to the other sports as well. Look at the Pacers’ Danny Granger, a guy who played two years for Bradley and two years for New Mexico. I remember watching that draft, thinking, “He’s still available, he’s still available, he’s still available!” Talented player (lottery quality), mature person (at a time when we were still reeling from the aftermath of the brawl in Detroit) — and now look, he’s having an All-Star season. We took so many chances on young, talented players, but they weren’t mature enough (Jamaal Tinsley, Shawne Williams). That’s why I liked how we picked up Brandon Rush and Roy Hibbert. Not sure if they will pan out as well as I’d hope, but that’s more because I have no confidence in this coaching staff.
OK. now it feels like a stormy day- pelting rain, whistling wind.
too bad we don’t have a cc today.
koakane is off.
but, next week ….nah, that is just too cruel.
so the high wind warning has been cancelled. should the state/city workers all be recalled they could still put in a half day’s work and save us poor taxpayers several million dollars of admin leave pay.
Having a nice cuppa kope to see if that will help. I hate taking analgesics…
Thanks Kazz — I was feeling faint. After all, I was the winner of Al’s weight loss challenge last year. Hmmm, Hungry Lion Triple M, Genji Chicken Katsu, or Camellia…
ATTENTION JMXXXXX circuit city in bankruptcy, sales start on Friday to liquidate….good time to buy you HD TV….tell hubby let’s go shopping. forgot to look up which friday tho, call them first…ha ha….
al, I was thinking the same thing. But then again
That reminds me, I lost around three pounds or so.
OK Jason — you won. I thought I won because I gained the least… 😛
momo-san
please feel free to just be yourself.
and i was thinking that we should have a pre-season tailgate at the cabana-a just to shoot the breeze and enjoy some of your infamous “panned laulau”.
Man- that pan laulau is da bestest…
I thought I won the contest, but looks like Jason won, he lost more than me.
jojo….thinking about what?
lunch or the payroll?
then again, we could discuss the payroll savings over lunch?
jojo…speaking about momo.
did you know that my favorite place near your office closed down last month?
yup, momotarou’s is history.
sniff, sniff.
i think whitey won the contest.
didn’t he say he lost thousands upon thousands?
RE: No high wind warning.
So the Warriors vs Pepperdine is on for tonight then? Aurhyte!!!
Al,
At least send the Satellite City Hall people back to work. They get too many hours “off” anyway.
Finally got internet back after almost 18 hrs! grrr. OK time to do some work.
Raining right now in Keolu.
the last or first infamous tall and rangy offensive tackle was jim mills who at 6’9″ and about 276 lbs made up an oline of much repute.
his teammates also included fellow nfl’ers kani kauahi and jesse sapolu. and of course two other trenchmen included two well known executive businessmen in jim donovan and keith ah yuen.
the latter two will attest that if it weren’t for them the former three nfl’ers would not have made it.
Al and Liz
Wait until you try my pork/squash/noodle dish…Yes, I’m for it at the cabana…I like to cook with the wok so I can produce many wok type of dishes.
Kekoa
It is hard for us to go on trips since we are baby sitters for my daughter’s three kids. The only way we can go is a very short trip where we take in the game and come home. This is what we did for Alabama, Oregan and the sugar..We will try for Vegas is one of our favorite place.
Hey, I’m at work! 🙂
d1:
what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas! 2100 hours sleep time turns into 0230 hours the next morning – damn, no wonder I’m so tired when I reach home!
Kekoa:
Reveille is at 0500 hours or earlier – depends on the chickens by ST’s house – some start at 0230 hours – don’t they know BMNT is much later?
ST’s surprise announcement, I’m sure does not include Pierce Burton – WELCOME PIERCE TO THE WARRIOR FAMILY AND WE LOOK FOR MANY GOODS THINGS FROM YOU!!!
al:
first BIG MAN in NFL was Bob St Clair of the 49ers – all 6’9″ and around 300 + lbs in the early 1950s.
Ralph, re #155 – I saw that, but also saw that someone was cautioning people from buying big ticket items from them (all sales final, no refunds, no exchanges, even if it’s defective). So far, their prices aren’t that great. We’ll see.
give a little love to our new recruit….

Growing into a Pacific-10-size tackle with superb grades, too.
ps….came in fourth for lineman in a nike camp/sparq ratings.
did i mention he plays basketball, too?
Published: Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008
Rio Americano football standout Pierce Burton had an 18-point, 18-rebound performance in the Raiders’ 57-55 semifinal win over Center on Friday.
Outstanding Momo! I look forward to both a pre-season T-gate AND attending the game up in LV with you and your Ohana.
BG & I will nail down a reservation time for whenever the team holds the Warrior Spring game (or maybe before).
Certain individual challenges have been tossed around the blog. It would be a good time for the ‘Games’ lady to coordinate events to bring out the beas…er…the best in categories representing the Tsaiko’s 5 F’s motto.
ahouse….but, jim mills played for the then rainbows. i am talking rainbows/warriors of the past.
Hi Duffer:
How can play golf with all the rain and wind?
Did Whitey reach home safely and with tons of $$$$$$$$$$$? He had a goal of recupping all the $$$$ lost by me, Stretch, and g’nalo. Hmmmm, did al post that Whitey lost thousands? of what?
Good thing I neva enter the weight contest – hell, I gained 8 pounds!!! darn tailgates and buffets in Vegas – weakness of mind; no discipline!!
kekoa,
when it involves food….don’t i come up with some winnah ideas?
ahouse…..whitey told me that he had to pay for his comp rooms at the wynn, so he was forced to lose thousands upon thousands to justify his stay.
ahahahaa. he also visited my money at various other casinos.
A-House,
That’s why I’m at work……no can play golf today!
whitey’s home, less some $$$$$
i wonder if the sony open is still going on?
someone offered me his tickets….nice guy.
Al ~ Without a doubt you are the resident Tsaiko Concierge! Sort of like Shell’s *Answer Man!*
al, I was just thinking, but sometimes nothing happens when I think. And you know I was thinking of trying that restaurant, but since they’re closed, I guess I can’t….
I sure hope the Sony Open is still on!
A WOK is da park… Momo, 808Ike and was it Koakane who had a great wok dish back at Richardson? And the Pork tofu- no can forget the pork tofu!
jojo…still got happy days.
it is amazing to me that victoria inn is still going. they must own the building.
Anyone hear what Colt had to say on 1420 this AM?
sheesh… wok IN da park…
JMxxxx if you buy a sony or samsung you won’t have to worry about quality. article states, know your prices, clearance doesn’t mean cheap, even if it has a 75% off label….often times the dealer markup up is very high and a discount brings the price down to another business regular price (costco and walmart). find a model you like at circuity city, go home do some research on prices and if it is a steal, time to buy….don’t buy a warranty like Al did at compUSA
ralph…you so cruel. i also have an extended warranty on my 50 incher from….gulp, circuit city.
Jason,
I weighed in at my doctor’s office at 174 in 9/07. Before our recent Vegas trip I was at 152.6, and I’ve been working hard to undo the 8.5 pounds of gain I had in a 5-day period (Vegas and buffets in San Diego), and am back to 153.6. So, I lost slightly over 20 pounds. However, some of that was before the Tsaiko weight challenge started…
I actually don’t eat much less now but I work out whenever I think I’ve eaten enough to need exercise to counter it. So, I work out basically every day!
MsLiz ~ Let me do the honors and complete your idea…we bill it as:
“A Wok & Spring Roll in Da Park!”
Wacky Wok Dishes Welcome!
Rob25 can be the judge in the Mystery Meat category.
The really sad thing about Momo’s forced retirement is that he’s been doing teaching jobs that most people do not want to do. His work at Olomana and another special school has meant that his students have been prisoners, students that have been kicked out of public schools, at-risk kids, and kids that are in a drug addiction program. He was attacked once by a kid with a hoe or pick (I can’t remember exactly right now) and the guards didn’t get there quick enough to prevent the first attack.
The state doesn’t have to give him any benefits (he already has his medical benefits and he doesn’t get any sick leave or vacation time), he works a ton of unpaid time, and he actually makes money for the school with his hydroponics program. I’m saddened that he won’t be able to do that job anymore and wonder who will want to teach the prisoners and other at-risk kids now.
I think that this wasn’t posted yet.
This link is down now, but Google saved the important part of the article–I like their term for Bess.
How many recruits are brought in for visits each recruiting season?
Look at it from the kid’s perspective. If they commit here, then another school wants to pay for them to visit their school, why not take the trip just to see more of the world? Although I don’t know what you get to see in Moscow.
that kevin williams story has been around.
but, really, hawaii vs idaho?
i heard that they like him as a kick/punt returner.
kekoa….i get it. ahahaha.
let’s make it really interesting for rob2514
“mystery parts”
ok, first things first. vegas was most interesting even tho made a few more cd’s that will mature before the end of the year. construction has slowed down and no work at the stardust or new frontier (which i could see from my suite). also a time share looked like it was on hold too.
plumber #1 and #2 are coming to set up remodeling work for bathroom #1 and #2. actually, i don’t know why i say remodeling when i neva actually finish them for over 25 years.
Garret ~ Momo’s position can never be filled or replaced. They will put those kids at an even greater risk now. We as a society will suffer from it as these kids get released.
It will take private funding to carry this program, and I see too many more ‘special’ needs that are of a higher priority waiting for that funding.
Sounds like Iuta Tepa won’t be coming to Hawaii as it seems like the distance is a factor according to this ESPN article on him.
whitey…..i was digging through the old mail and found that same comp letter you got from the wynn.
we could have been room mates.
nah.
Ok, Garret- I was trying to stay CALM but here we go again.
I’m going to stick my neck out about “at risk” kids and betcha that if they were gathered up and tested by the likes of Dr. Mel Levine, we would find that these kids were not given the chance to succeed and fell victim to the “one size fits all” philosophy of education.
If the child cannot fit, he/she is dumped as a failure. In reality, these kids are our key to IMPROVING the way we teach and increasing the success rates for our kids.
http://www.allkindsofminds.org/ArticleDisplay.aspx?articleID=12
What if the current attitude in field of education was applied to the field of medicine?
“Oh sorry, I used all the medicines and techniques I knew about but they didn’t work for all these sick people so I guess they can just die.”
grrr
yeah, Kevin Williams was a 1st Team All Conference KR/PR.
Al,
idaho? thought kama bailey was tearing it up over there…..or am i thinking of the wrong school?
on the surface, visitation from recruits who have committed to other school appears to be a waste of time and money. it may hold true for some, but in today’s world it is very hard to find people doing the right or common sense thing. if you promised a recruit a visitation, then fulfil your obligations because you believe in basic common sense of treating people exactly how you want to be treated. then you get people who move from the mainland, like my neighbor, who has no common sense or manners. i ask him why he came onto my property without my permission to cut some trees to improve his view. answer?? because you weren’t at home. typicalo gd hao– from the mainland and then they wonder why people don’t appreciate them. arsehole to the max.
Al,
I know that the story has been around on Williams, but I couldn’t remember it being posted here. I agree with you that it is odd that he’s comparing Idaho and Hawaii! Also, if he’s from Florida and has a South Florida offer, then I cannot understand him going to Idaho for a visit!
It’s a Winnie-the-Pooh day right now in Kailua. Had a few hours of calm.
bulla,
Kama Bailey is at Idaho and did a great job as a kick/punt returner.
(off topic)
Momo: http://kauaiworld.com/articles/2009/01/16/community/religion/doc497047b3479cb050160306.txt
Liz,
I do not disagree with you. However, some of the kids that Momo teaches are currently incarcerated for murder and other serious crimes…however, they will be released when they turn 19, so teaching them a skill in which they could hopefully find a job (like agriculture/aquaculture) could hopefully improve their lives and prevent them from going to prison as an adult.
labrat:
The reporters were all annoyed when the paper wasn’t printed during the power outage a few weeks ago. I mean, $80 million press, no backup generator? Hmmm. But then one of the sales people said: “It’s a great idea. Take the ad money but don’t run people’s ads.”
rog,
Thank you very much for that article link! It also sounds like McKay is pushing hard to get a regular offer instead of a grayshirt offer from UCLA, otherwise he’ll choose Colorado. UH’s situation with him doesn’t seem that great.
ST,
They get to keep the ad money without printing the paper? There must be some clause in the ad contract that is very favorable to the Advertiser!
Al – from the Circuit City website:
lizk….ditto
bulla….cute comment. hahaha.
jm411….thats really a free play post.
rog….if it is true, then, that is a very convenient “reason”.
Garret- understood. In hindsight, could these kids have chosen better for themselves if they had been effectively educated when they were small?
This theme has been my whole experience with #2 and #3 sons. Every day has been a breath-holder that they would not end up in a situation without a Momo to give them hope, skills and self-confidence.
ok pau already…
jm411….tks. i did research that and fyi the compusa extended is also covered by a third party administrator as well.
i just wanted to let ralphie gloat for a few moments.
whitey,
i agree with you, it is a ‘meat market’ out there and these young athletes fall prey to a lof of deception and miscommunication. i feel that hawaii athletes are probably the most inexperienced when it comes to recruiting because of our proximity to the mainland. also, it’s more costly to have a kid from hawaii to go on an official visit to the mainland.
the challenge that i have, and IMHO, many times UH will hold off on the scholarships and entice local athletes to ‘walk on’, via the rich miano story, and they will be rewarded (hopefully) down the road with a scholarship. that way, UH can get a bigger bang for the buck, knowing local kids can still live at home, go to school, and PUSH the scholarship to perform better.
now we do have hawaii kids on scholarship, but in years past, it was mostly mainland kids getting the scholies and the local kids fighting for whatever they could get…but things seem to be changing for the better.
any kid that can get a FREE education should take advantage of that……every time! we just need more kids in college getting degrees, bottom line.
The A T & T salesperson talked me into spending $5 a month for 200 text messages. Anybody wanna text? 🙂
The only person who did text was Nalani, but then I lost her number in cyber space……
jm2375- In order to be able to WATCH WARRIOR FOOTBALL (on topic caveat) effectively, a good viewing device is recommended. Unlike the old analog days when a 19″ Emerson cost $350 and lasted for 15 years, we are in the age of “disposable technology” where every year there is a greater and more awesome “next thing”. The investment can be huge (for me) or moderate.
I like gigi’s giant Sony for picture quality but opted to spend $600 for a modest 37″ Toshiba from Sears that enables us to watch FOOTBALL and other entertainments satisfactorily.
duffer- no wonder you didn’t reply to my texts back in September!
Bwahahaha!
bulla- AMEN.
Hey LizK, only 197 to go! 🙂 Does receiving count ?
Liz – good thing I have 8 months before football starts. Of course, they haven’t started broadcasting in HD yet. Wonder when that’s gonna happen. The bigger the screen, the worse the picture looks when it’s not HD. I’m still mad with KHNL/KFVE for swapping out the KHNL HD channel for KFVE HD with DishNetwork. I never got a response from email I sent them. Dish told me it was probably a contracting thing.
BTW, the Sony I keep complaining about is 20 yrs old and cost around $400 (I think). We are not looking for something that’s really cutting edge, but will give us a good value for years to come. Hubby’s pretty stubborn and will wait till he finds a good deal. You should see him when he buys a car.
bulla…..ditto
duffer…..you mean you got rid of your 4 lb cell phone. should have kept it for antique road shows. ask tsai to teach you how to text.
jm411….did you say “hubby”?
did you say you are buying a new tv?
did you say that your hubby was a bean counter?
are you the new gg?
ok jm2375. all kinds of deals should pop up in the next few months!
Speaking of cars- when I decided to go Prius, my kids were like- awwwww. Now that #2 son has to drive 50 miles RT to school, he and his friends are like – cool! They get to put twice as much into gas as he does. Thank goodness the prices are lower again…
OK- gotta go to a memorial svc.
bbl.
Any truth to Eljae Faoagali walking on to UH and participating in spring ball?
Wow, this blog must get a lot of SPAM. The winner of the prize for the 200Kth comment is… no one, just like at 100K. #66 (BigWave) was comment #199,995 and #67 (al) was comment #200,002.
We made it to 200K before NLI day with the help of the SPAMmers. sheesh. 🙄 😯
al – #224 – neither of us are bean counters. ewwwwww. He’s an engineer (yes, like Stretch, but he doesn’t do as much “marketing”) and I am a number cruncher.
jm411…..you need to at least get hdtv capabilities with minimum 720p. although, if you are going to keep the new one for 20 years then you need to buy a good one at least 36″ with 1080p hdtv.
stay away from plasma. they don’t last five years on average. get an lcd.
you can find last year’s models for half off what they were originally being sold for with everything you need and will pay for.
just remember if you buy an off brand you will have extreme difficulties finding someone to fulfill your warranty coverages.
it is like if you buy a costco sold only brand….where you going to have it fixed? best buy would be a good place to purchase they also many online specials.
Tadd is 1 under for the day, even for the tournament. This after two holes today. Go TADD!
rog….is he the mysterious de that miano mentions? isn’t he a teammate of the former dt commit out of new mex mil inst.?
al – looking for a 1080p lcd with at least 120Hz and at least 46″ and preferrably 2ms refresh rate. We had a Philips that we returned cuz he thought a we could get this deal he saw on the web, but of course, shipping not available to Hawaii.
First USC lost both its offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators to U-Dub. Then, they hired a QB coach that was going to call the plays instead of their new offensive coordinator. Now, that QB coach they just hired might leave (did he even start at USC yet?) for the NFL.
many on sale at bestbuy.com w/in store pickup.
Garret,
Too bad all this didn’t happen you USC in 2009, lol.
I mean end of 09.
al & Whitey:
I’m surely missing something here – how can “comp room” turn into you have to pay?
False advertising? Missing fine print somewhere on the letter/invitation? Possible notice to LV Gaming commission?
I did that once and got a nearly instant reply!
Garret:
I work out every day, but how come my spare tire around the middle keeps inflating?
Dang, new pant I bought recently may have to be replaced soon!! That’s sad.
High wind warnings may have been canceled, but it is sure blowing and raining in Maunawili.
Keep opening and closing windows. Bummers, my work out for today.
ahouse…..you get spare tire that keeps inflating and deflating.
me, i get one bus tire that is permanently afixed.
rain all day in palolo too.
my biggest fear is that now all the weeds going grow two feet high.
A-House,
I’ve seen you and know that I have a lot more weight to lose than you!
Looking at Washington State’s schedule, I was surprised to see that they start with 3 home games. That means that 6 of their last 9 games are on the road, with 5 out of 6 on the road. That seems pretty imbalanced of a schedule to me.
However, that does benefit Washington State to start the season. They don’t have to worry about going on the road and their home game against Stanford will help them get ready for UH. Their home game against UH will definitely prepare them for their home game against SMU, given the similarity between those offenses.
We’re having dinner tonight at the home of our friends that graduated from BYU. So, I’m wearing my Warrior shirt to the dinner of course…
Good afternoon Tsaikos…
I can’t believe the way Pete Carroll treated Sanchez today. Turns out he’s on schedule to complete his Bachelor’s Degree this Spring. So now instead of returning 10 starters on offense (according to Phil Steele), USC now only returns 9 starters. Give me a break. The kid won him a couple PAC-10 Championships with all the BCS cash that goes with it from the Rose Bowl and he treats him like crap when he decides to graduate and move on with his life.
Way to represent Garret! Too bad you don’t have one of those retro-tees that gives the lopsided score that Gabrial ran up over them.
If it were BHF2, he would wear his “FU BYU” t-shirt.
Where is that Hilo Fan today?…Prolly down on the docks sitting in his canoe waiting for high tide.
SMU is having a Junior Day on January 31…that is pretty early, even before NLI day! I guess they want to get started with the Juniors early…such a change by JJ from when he was at UH.
Kekoa,
I wish I had thought ahead and had my kids wear their UH gear today…
sure this was posted, but my nephew was just over. he knows billy stutz. he said he is at UH and on full scholarship already…and LOVES it.
more impressive stuff from the stutzman boys.
lets get more guys in early next year. this gives them and extra spring!
i hope some kid deciding between us and usc saw that and will swim across the ocean instead.
hmmm.
grapes,
billy ray comes from a great family. billy ray had A LOT of interest from a lot of schools that offered him a FULL scholarship. IMHO he should have been playing in the Under Armour Bowl also, but let me just say one word…..politics.
he is going to put some more muscle on that rack of his, and he will be playing in the fall. good job momma and papa stutz, we need more student athletes and parents like that in hawaii.
Most of my students are the bottom end of the system and they have given up on education. My goal for the fifty years that I work with them is to instill pride and self confidence. These are my kids and many have become very successful in life. I see them all over the place and they all remember me and make it a point to say hello and to thank me. This is what has kept me working all these years. My main purpose in teaching is to teach them to survive in the adult world. I use my subject area to get this point across to them…
(Throws a shaka to Garret.) Dey u go…
I think the guy who said winds would be up to 60 mph is the same clown who said five lightning strikes caused the power outage.
So, if I have a Circuit City account, I should just pay the minimum until they go away?
My daughter was one of the tops in her class when grad, and she could not grad early!!!!!!
their accounts receivables will be bought by a company to collect the interest etc.
credit card company usually sees value in this kind of purchase. they not only collect the interest, but buy the stuff for pennies on the dollar AND have you as a potential new customer!
Ditto Bulla’s comment re: Mom and Dad Stutzman…great people!
All the Stutzman’s deserve to be treated well….
Well?
grapes,
Early admit is a matter of careful pre-planning by the family and desire by the student.
Momo,
What’s happening to wonderful people like you is living proof of how broken our entire system of education has become, not only in Hawaii, but across the Nation.
More and more people, not born into fortunate circumstances, are already starting 20 yards behind in the race of life. Subsequently they’re further and further marginalized, pushed to the fringes of society, where they end up pushing back, very often as criminals.
To remove even one teacher like you, for whatever reason, will cost us, as a community, infinitly more in the long run, than whatever was paid to you during your entire life.
Every society has the criminals they deserve.
Sir, we need more people like you, not less..
Momo,
By fortunate circumstances I don’t mean money, but Parents who care and are fully engaged with their kids.
Too many many parents, on the above mentioned margines, don’t give a hoot or worse and the downward spiral begins its deadly dance and repeats from one generation to the next.
Guy Hagi?
Ching Field Video
FYI, not sure how this was up, but at http://www.hawaiiathletics.com they have a video update about the turf at Ching Field.
What a difference $$$, legislature awareness, a Heisman QB, a 2007 Honolulu Advertiser article, a new AD, and a new Chancellor can make huh?
d1
i meant to include Craig, how could we not love our future kicking coach, north end zone 25 yd kick, hang time 3.2 seconds…buh bye….haha
kazz,
i like one thing about guy hagi……
i give you one guess
Anyone know if Eljae Faoagali is enrolled at UH? Is this the walk-on that Miano is so high on?
lava….how about you go email rich and ask for all of us?
Al, Miano talked about someone this week on BC’s radio show, but apparently no one around here listened. I have a hunch this might be the guy, but not sure.
He had da olos fo try call Lyle Galdeira “fat” on live TV?
faogali, he is listed at 6’3, 258 lbs. 4.75 40 yd dash from American Samoa for NMMI
For those that don’t remember:
Apparently there was a segment on KHNL back in the day when Lyle Galderia was doing a story on whale watching. After the segment was done and they cut back to a shot of the news desk, Guy Hagi kept looking at Lyle Galdeira up and down and kept saying “Oh yeah? Whale watching?” over and over again.
(This story was told to me second-hand BTW…)
close,
i’d have to go with, my final answer……’his wife’, bb special, brains and beauty…..she could qualify as a bomber, but i’d have to clear that with the colonel on deck….ouch
Bulla, that is the right guy. I know Miano said his guy was 6’3″, and I know Eljae Faoagali did trip here.
NMMI has been a decent source for players, great bridge for athletes from American Samoa who cannot qualify on the first round to a D1-A school……should make it interesting with his speed, go through some intense training with Miano, and he should be a force off of the edge.
still has time to pack on some beef, build up the explosiveness he needs to dominate the tackle in front of him
speed + strength = POWER
Tad makes the cut. Wooooohoooooooo! Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeehawwwwwwwww!
Bulla, the only thing is, I’m not sure that Miano was talking about Eljae Faoagali. I hope so.
Kazz
that would be a decent celebrity ‘beef’, lyle vs. guy……better yet, a coed tag team match, but who’d match up with lyle….how about pamela young? haha, now we gotta deal with tim tindall, oh boy.
lava,
well, only rich knows….the more the merrier, kind of like in the playground when bruddah only get 5 jolly ranchers left in the paper wrapper, but get 10 guys making buddy buddy with him.
throw the five up in the sky, run for da merry go round and yell
ROUGH TAKE
put all the Dline guys on the field, last 4 standing start the first game, and run for the merry go round
lava
what was the cut, 1 over?
what about the other hawaii guys?
It has been many years since I last heard “rough take”. HA! Interesting memories.
lava,
dean wilson gotta be sick…bogey 18 and miss the cut by 1
maclachlin out, chen out….the survivor still in TAD!!!! 🙂
I hope everyone had a good and safe day without too much wind and rain.
Dean Wilson has to be double sick — he got a bogey on the 18th each day. I’d expect any golfer of a 20 handicap to par the 18th, so for Dean to bogey, ugh!
The cut was +1, and Dean knew he needed to par to make the projected cut, and he still didn’t get it done. I like Dean, but this is disappointing.
Parker played ever worse.
wafan,
better safe than sorry, but slight overkill i would say. was it an over reaction by the ‘powers that be’? i don’t know, what if it really hit, it would have been utter chaos.
life’s too short, be safe not sorry i say….but you know that all the weather we get here is headed on the famous Pineapple Express straight to you…….enjoy the white stuff……….sorry 🙁
lava,
18 plays dog left, and some guys get cute and cut the corner. from what i read, it said he was in a fairway bunker….the one on the rt. corner…dancing with the devil, should have laid up to set up the secon shot and play for par…..get on in 3, 2 putt, in the clubhouse and playing on the weekend.
i don’t know, i wasn’t there, but the 2nd day he should have made an adjustment on the course management side of the ball. i’ve seen Vijay Singh pull his drive over the trees, over the 10th fairway against the bushes…..and put his second shot on the green…..that’s why they’re on the inside of the ropes, haha
do you golf? i used to play a lot when i was the tommy hilfiger rep and about 50 lbs smaller….still got the custom Titleist clubs with the original 975J driver…thank you Tiger, haha
when i stopped playing i was a card carrying 3 handicap and read more greens than good books…..those were the days my friend…..we though they’d never end……….la di da…….
shoot,
now the only greens i read are in my salad……haha
Bulla . . .
Yeah. Thanks. NOT!
With a higher pressure over Oregon and Washington the weather is being pushed northward into Canada. Yay!!!
We supposed to have some sun but ended up with nothing but grey all day long. Better than rain or, worse, snow.
It is a dry cloudy day. HA!
it’s been fun boyz,
time to leave the lovely confines of my cubicle/office/cave, and venture to the streets of waikiki. mrs bulla is in maui for the weekend so i have all kinds of ‘MANLY’ activities lined up…..
you’d be jealous….. i am going to………
prepare for leading a men’s bible study tomorrow morning,
coordinate helpers for our food distribution at church tomorrow mid morning,
practice for leading a class tomorrow night in getting leaders ready for a Men’s Conference on Pro Bowl weekend, where i am trying to get Curt Warner to speak……..
and then on Sunday…….church, church, lunch, nap, church
so the secret is out, haha
My neighbors are being shipped out to Iraq soon. They were renting the house next door and were exemplary representatives of our armed forces — polite, clean, quiet, and very respectful.
I know I am older than they are (young punks in their early 20’s — HA!) but did they really have to call me sir and help me carry out the garbage? Dang! Okay, I admit it, I got spoiled.
Anyhow, one guy is going for his 3rd tour, the other two are going for their 2nd. I sure hope they are going to be safe and return home perfectly healthy.
Bravo to our young men and women who faithfully serve and protect us!
And to the old futs, too, thank you!
I bought a great new set of clubs about 5 years ago, and probably only played once or twice since.
The 18th plays longer if you hit it right, but a decent golfer should still get par. Tad hit it to the right bunker today and still made par.
On the left are trees and bunkers, but I regularly see guys still make par.
If you KNOW all you need is par, I’d expect a guy to hit a straight 3 wood and just play it safe. Dean will lose sleep tonight over that hole.
While hunkering down today, I went looking for #33 Bobby Nash. Found him in Shiga, Japan with team called the Lakestars. Here’s the team website.

Kind of long because its a translated site for us gaijin, but a fun site to browse.
wafan:
You lucky for that kind of neighbors.
Ours, to the contrary, are loud, smoke a lot(wind carries smoke right into our house), have parties late into the morning, constantly block our driveway, etc.
Does not make a difference if Marines or Sailors – same smell.
Interestingly, they see my “bird” sticker and they could care less.
Bulla:
Hmmm, a 3 handicapper.
Maybe I should take lessons from you, but be aware, that this ole dog is very hard to change when it comes to my lousy stance, slice, grip, keeping my head down, etc.
I always hit behind the ball and very seldom is low and long. My forte is “sky high” golfing.
A-House . . .
Sorry to hear of the disrespect you receive. Those guys should know better! Maybe Mrs. A-House should go over and knock some heads around.
The worst neighbors I had here are a toss up between the college students from St. Martin’s, and the Vietnamese family. Both could not keep quiet and kept shouting at each other all day and night. Heck, their parties were loud and obnoxious, too.
Caught one of thecollege kids throwing their dog poop over the fence into my yard one day. Picked it up, wrapped it in newspaper and delivered it back to them at their front door. The kid who answered the door was surprised. He did not say a word except to thank me for returning the poop. Problem solved — no more poop over the fence, and they moved in a week or so.
I am going to miss those Special Forces guys. Who is going to take out my trash?
Where is everyone tonight?
300 is the goal.

Is there a karaoke meeting tonight?
“Hi, my name is wafan and I am a Tsai-ko.”
“Hi, wafan.”
The voices are talking to me. They are telling me something.
I wish I understood Guyanese.
Here I am. All alone. In my room. All by myself.
There is a tiny little light in the distance.
This is a big room.
300!!!
Huzza! Huzza! Huzza! Ring the bells! Sound the trumpets!
And now the end is near,
It is time to fix dinner.
I am hungry because I missed dinner.
See you tomorrow!
Hi wafan! Nite wafan!
wafan I’m sure your brother is reading all of your posts, shaking his head, he is my brother?
yah, i know and since you keep asking go email rich and ask him. i, too would love to find this out.

did you know that this article is lost in the archives somewhere in the HA online paper?:
http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009901160357
the only way to find it by using the HA search engine for “burton”.

I’m really happy for Tadd, he really needed that boost to his career, as well as a decent paycheck. I hope that’ll break him free to better things to come. His progress was kinda stalled. I wish him the best. He’s a very nice kid.
good find Al might be a surprise to mr. tsai….does he read the HA after deadlines to check on his article and its placement in the HA….buried in the archives…I wonder what Curtis is thinking at this time-did Steve submit an article….
Is this coincidence, or is our blog host clairvoyant? 😯
ST‘s blog post is titled, “Lineman commits to UH”.
The 49ers are about to name Linehan as their new Offensive Coordinator. 😀
yah. ralph i was wondering too.

Momo – I wish I had a few teachers like you! 😀
Al Text him….new found skills for the master…new tech, emails are now to slow for him…..
I wonder if the players (especially the OL) should take some sort of dance classes, or certainly soccer to improve their footwork and balance…. 🙄
I’m glad to hear all of you and the 808 survived the storm and big winds that had been forecast for the islands. It looks like the major victims were Dean Wilson and Circuit City! 😆

Garret – doesn’t surprise me one bit! I know he’s really attached to his students, but there are LOTS of people that would benefit from learning about hydroponics and life in general (from kids to Srs.). 😀
BTW –
Ummmm….. I admit I’m a bit superstitious…maybe change is good. Plus I’m sure F&M would LOVE to spend more time with Momo & Mrs. Momo! 😆 😯 😀
There’s good data, and bad data, but what is worst is…. no data! 😯
Nice visiting with the Tsaikos but got to go in and check the insane asylum & crew. Hope we get data this time…. 😐

brew808,
Mrs. Momo was at the last UH game in Vegas, but Momo had a class reunion then. They really have had bad luck with road trips together! I’m hoping that their luck is better in 2009 for road trips. They went to plenty of winning events in Vegas for WAC volleyball (that was a long time ago before the MWC people split) and other sports, though.
By the way, I’ve only seen one episode of CSI: LV, the one where the writers of 2.5 men wrote the episode. I’m sure that was quite different than a regular episode, but I never had time to watch any of the others.
Good night everyone…
Tsai-kos in Las Vegas September 18-19, 2009
las vegas needs to know the numbers for the Saturday tailgate venue and buses. Planning is also underway for a Friday night Get-together Party for all mainland and HI Tsai-kos! Rich2176 needs to know who and how many tickets are needed. Survey requests for tickets will be turned over to Rich2176 at the end of February or when he asks.
I will continue to collect ticket requests until Rich2176 is ready (and tailgate and FRIDAY night party RSVPs indefinitely) via the survey at:

If you cannot get into the survey or have subsequent changes, please email me the info/changes at: stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com
A summary of the data and plans are posted at:

Please check if your listed info is accurate. This listing also serves as your visual assurance that your ticket/tailgate requests were received.

Al, I don’t know pele.
Thanks SteveM the LV matrix with our travel plans is correct.
Mahalo!
Despite being well after 4:15am here, it’s time to go get my car out of the parking lot at work. I’m not looking forward to seeing how much the towing cost is gonna be.
I suspect the starter has finally worn out or some type of faulty cable/circuitry. You hear the clicking kine noise but the engine is no go. Lights/radio all work fine.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Committed Road Warrior,
I’d say your car don’t start.
Trying to be helpful. 😉
CRW 90% sure it’s the starter.
heck, just had one supah blast of wind dat when shake da house!
CRW,
just joking. i dunno about cars, but sounds like a starter, or battery.
could be a weak battery. not enough juice to the starter. try get a jump first.
CRW just to be sure, just go under the car, and check the wire from the starter to the battery, if it is lose then it won’t start also sometimes just hit the dang thing a few time and see if will start, sometimes the armature gets stuck.
back to the rack. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Also you could change it right there, should be only two bolts holding it in.
Hi al.
Hi Pomai.
Boy you guyz are super smart.
me, I’d go to Hertz. bwahaahaa
back to the rack 2. zzzzzzzzzzzz Z
CRW
what kind of car do you have? sounds like the starter solenoid, if you have a Ford the solenoid should be near the battery on the inside fender well or if you have a GM it should be mounted on the starter and like Pomai said tap on the solenoid.
bighilofan2 nah not smart just poor!!!!!!
don’t you guys sleep? whew, you are the real TSAIKOS, haha
Good morning to all,
had to do my morning check up on the crew protecting the natives from the tourists…..all is well in waikiki.
streets are crowded with intoxicated, idiotic, imbecillic youth, and 4″ clear heeled ladies of the night, armani suit wearing pimps, jeans off the butt, chain wearing wannabe runners for the pimps, and our men in blue HPD’s finest. such a conglomeration of humanity……better than a day at the zoo, haha
but that is life in the jungle at 4 am………and that is why when eggs and things reopens, they will continue to CHA CHANG with all of the drunken dyslexic degenerates still drinking.
enough of that, CONGRATS TO TAD at the sony open…..auryte! let’s go big boy…..
brew
#317 = play racquetball, great cardio, eye to hand, and the court is 20 ft wide and 40 ft long, which makes it 6 2/3 yds wide and 13 1/3 yd long. WOW, talk about explosiveness….
ask Coach Chris Brown, or former UH RB John Kauka how explosive it is. they had a lot of fun playing with yours truly for many years…..2 on 1, and i NEVER lost to them.
the beast was a singles state champion in the Men’s C division in his sophomore year at st louis. in kauai he had about 12 men in his division and he came out on top. in the championship game he beat a former all state qb/utility player from kaimuki hs, travis mckay. pretty funny stuff.
at weber state there are some rb courts, and when his ankle is 100% he’ll be back playing…..it is a fun sport to play, a lot of side to side movement, forward and back, all on your toes like a cat.
did everyone go to sleep….
have a good day Tsaikos, thank all of you for who you are….may God continue to protect and bless all of us.
Good Morning Bull!
See you at bible study later this AM. Thanks for keeping the touristas at bay so I could get my 40 winks.
TAD…Go get that big money, small man. Grab a Sony of your ony!
Try and see if you can redeem it for an online purchase.
Or give it as a gift to a friend in Florida, Texas, Illinois or North Carolina

Jason,
Wayne Hunter got drafted in the 3rd round, 1 pick after Vince Manuwai.
I think that’s pretty good, considering all the acolades that Vince was receiving.
Also if you remember, Wayne didn’t play in the Hawaii Bowl in 2002.
Some speculate it was due to academics.
Going out his Junior year may have been the best option for him
Al, I thought you was sad Chawan_Cut wasn’t around.
Also is Koakane off his meds? rocker? the wagon?
aloha big wave,
hope all is welll after the big wind…take care of ‘shore break’, love that nickname for your kolohe boy. let’s go TAD
Kekoa,
all should be on schedule as we speak, but you never know…..all plans are GO
Great Morning All!
Hope erryboddy who participated in the extra day of rest is now able to enjoy the rest of their four-day weekend! 😯 😆 😉
The rest of us will keep it going for you….
HiHo….
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Gotta catch a plane… doing a Rotary thing at Turtle Bay for the day.
Tootles!
Aloha Kakahiaka…
No forget today is the East-West Shrine Game featuring our very own Ryan Mouton. Game should start at 11:00 a.m. Hawaii Time on ESPN 2.
Finally back home with car in hand!
bighilofan, Pomai, al and HiFlyer: Thanks for all the suggestions.
The battery terminals were so wickedly corroded that not enough juice was getting to the starter. Looks like the battery needs to be replaced pronto.
I actually got off of work a little after 2:00am. None of my coworkers leaving the center at that time had jumper cables on them, so I hitched a ride home so I can grab some things (tools, phone numbers, etc.). It wasn’t until I went back to work (arrived a little after 7:00am) that the company mechanics were on duty and were able to give me a jump, and away I went. From what they ascertained, the alternator et al. were within normal parameters.
…..despite this I did attract suspicion amongst some of the head honchos since I don’t work weekends and was walking around the center simply wearing a hoodie and jeans (compared to the company uniforms that all the Saturday drivers wear). Of course once I explained my position and standing within the company, they became more understanding and tracked down the company mechanics for me who of course have jumper equipment laying around.
I drive a small Corolla. Do you know how compact everything is under the hood? So many lines and cables weaving in and out of that small space I couldn’t even see where the one of the lines from the battery went (assuming to the starter, couldn’t even follow it all the way).
Anyways, thanks again.
good morning early risers 8) and checking in so not to worry BW##### I still around, mahalo for the concern.
bulla if all the beeg tsaikos get together and play rball doubt if get room 😯 (side to side) for the game to start. bwhaaa

“Swoops in for the steal”
I’ve been up for 24 hours now. Time to get some zzzzzzzz’s.
Whoooooooosh!
have a nice day
CRW
Same thing happened to me once upon a time. Jumped in my ka’awela, turned the key, heard da clicking sound, no start. Lights looked dim. Radio was dead.
Had an old pair of jumpers, but I just got back from a mission and the last of the ops crew to leave the company area. Called AAA and waited 2 hours for him to come give me a jump that took 2 seconds!
Guy sez, your battery clamps and terminals are corroded. Mix some baking soda and water in an empty can and brush it on. As it activates and dissolves the corrosion, just wipe it clean. Put a thin layer of grease on the terminals, put your battery on a charger and your battery should be good to go.
That battery lasted me another year before another cold snap hit the area and sapped the cranking power during one last start…that’s when you realize if it’s rated for 36 months, they mean it…
eh EIS patnah up early or getting home late 😉
Aloha Everyone!
I haven’t blogged in a while so maybe I missed any updates, but does anyone know what’s going on with Blaze? Is there a chance for another year since he didn’t play? Just curious…
morning to you KG 😀 don’t quote me but me thinks he has one year left
Howzit Koakane, Kekoa and Kona Girl! Hows yous guys ke’ia?
Koakane
Got up early. Neighbor’s coffee was perking and the smell was so ono it woke me up thinking maybe pops had put a pot on. No such luck, had to go brew my own.
Meanwhile, my main computer was down so was checking the blog on my iphone while the virus scan was running. Diana’s laptop is set on permanent “NO TOUCH – NO BELONG!” and Kimana’s takes a Pentagon Password for access. An older desk top is so slow the Sunday paper would show up before the home page came on.
But it’s a brand new day! Sun is shining, birds are chirping! Life is good on da ceded lands! Bible study starts soon, see ya!
aloha to pdk and gooda morning no ho’i.
kekoa too funny about diana’s kapu warnings I can pickah her putting it up. our family is alike need one for each guy or have to wait hours before can get on.
This is an interesting day already. 53 degrees at halfway bridge. Brrrr.
Missed my flight. ??? My mind is going. Musts been the Alleve I took for my headache yesterday. Or perhaps it was the headache announcing my brain is gone already.
I have to catch a 9 am bus in HNL. I get in at 9:10. Hmmm. It’s going to be VERY interesting!
CRW- glad all is well!
Aloha Kakahiaka DPK!
“I kela o keia la!” my Kapalama brutha! I can’t speak for Koakane tho, his ‘Mojo’ might be partly cloudy today. Hehehe!

Sacramento Gold. Reading a lot about recruits from the Sacramento area and really happy to hear UH is tapped in. The nation is talking about Sacramento Grant beating LB Poly this yeara for the state champs. They play some great college football in the Sacramento Valley and except for Sac State, players must leave home. UH has always done well with JC players from the area and now they really need to deepen the ties with the High Schools. Some exciting players coming out of there, and seem to be positive towards the Hawaii direction. Keep it up coach!
