Wideout Rodney Bradley has nicknamed a trio of running backs as Earth, Wind and Fire. Bradley said Leon Wright-Jackson is “Earth,” Alex Green is “Wind,” and Chizzy Dimude is “Fire.”

Why? “It fits,” Bradley said.

Wright-Jackson said: “Uh … OK.”

Maybe Inoke Funaki and Jayson Rego are the “Emotions.”

To kill time — “when we’re not studying, of course,” defensive end Victor Clore said — several Warriors compete in Word Find. You remember the game: You try to find words hidden vertically, horizontally and diagonally amongst a seemingly random listing of letters. In their version, the game is speed-based. Clore is said to hold the record of finding more  than 20 words in 5 minutes. An offensive lineman, who chooses to remain anonymous, holds the dubious mark of quitting after 17 minutes.

The Warriors’ pre-game meal always features chicken and pasta. But the owner of the restaurant in the hotel they’re staying prepared a ham so moist and delicious it was added to the pre-game menu. Unfortunately, no pictures will be available. That’s because a certain blog host is not permitted near the restaurant anymore after having repeated comments about the, uh, uniqueness of the hotel being near a graveyard. He made the comments while the hotel owner was standing behind him.  The Warriors have reserved the entire hotel.

We’re staying about a 5-minute drive from the team. It’s true:  Staying at a Holiday Inn Express makes you smarter. I’ve learned how to fix a toilet My bathroom’s toilet does not fill with water automatically, so I have to take off the lid and refill it. With water, wise guy. Hotel is sold out, by the way. And the shower water here is soft, so it doesn’t feel like you’re rinsing off the suds. I guess I really am a slimey reporter.

Happy birthday to Ronnie.

Victory is measured in territory gained, in how well one unit outmaneuvers the other. The game involves brute strength and keen physicality; it is a hand to hand, helmet to helmet fight, one man struggling against another. And yet at the same time, finesse, agility, and brilliant strategy are requisites for success and a team lives or dies solely on how well they work together as a team, as a unit.

This is a very positive article about Moniz.

I thought Bryant Moniz had a very promising performance and he may very well become the next great QB in green. He rivaled another sophomore’s performance who eventually became the most acclaimed athlete to come out of the program – Colt Brennan.

QB coach Nick Rolovich said Moniz was on a even keel, never to high or to low. Teammates say he maintained calm in the huddle, kept players at ease during the frustration of a blowout.

This is a guy I would want in my huddle.

UH’s “friend” in the San Jose Mercury News is picking against UH again.

HAWAII (plus-10) at IDAHO: I know Hawaii isn’t very good (three consecutive losses by 1, 21 and 25 points), and I don’t think the betting public has caught on to how much better Idaho is this season. The Vandals have a shot to finish second in the WAC. Gimme: Idaho.

Idaho’s coach doesn’t mind people talking about how they would be bowl eligible if they beat UH.

One more team win and the Vandals — home at the Kibbie Dome on Saturday against Hawaii, another WAC opponent they’ve never beaten — will be numerically qualified to accept a bowl invitation, with no guarantee yet of getting one. This is the sort of talk that drives most football coaches crazy.

Akey embraces it, bringing up the subject of “the magic number” himself.

“Some folks, to talk about the things you want to be able to do with a football team, is voodoo,” he said. “They don’t like to get in front of that. I certainly want to keep our focus — that’s what got us to this point. But these guys need to enjoy college football, too. The outside world is finally telling them ‘Good job’ and patting them on the back, and I want them to be able to feel good about that. We can openly talk about a goal of getting to a bowl game. Let’s talk about winning the WAC championship.

“Now, what’s going to give us a chance is making sure we give all our attention to Hawaii, and understanding and fixing the things that almost got our tails beat by San Jose State.”

I hesitated to bring this up, but it appears from ST’s article this morning that *someone* at UH messed up and didn’t keep track of Sione’s eligibility clock properly. The article indicates that UH thought that Sione had a redshirt year available so he was redshirting this season, but his eligibility clock actually started last year so he doesn’t have a redshirt year available.

This is a pretty big error because UH is so thin on the DL and could have used Sione all season. Discovering this error right before the 6th game of the season puts Sione way behind in his preparation to play and hurt the Warriors’ depth earlier this season.

    brew808,

The sad part of the matter with Sione is that this is probably one example about how having such a limited support staff hurt UH. With the current budget situation, I don’t know how JD can fix it…maybe a student intern could take some of the busy work load off and wouldn’t cost too much.

  43. Garret October 16, 2009 6:45 am

According to this link, 62% of the money being bet on the UH-Idaho game is being put on Idaho. However, the point spread went from 11.5 to 8 even as people were betting on Idaho, so this is an example where the sports books seem to *want* people to bet on Idaho. Hopefully the bookies are correct in their belief in the Warriors.

  44. βρεω808 October 16, 2009 6:45 am

Yup…. or maybe a “Team”, a class of full student interns all helping….each with an assigned case to monitor…. 😯

I like how Ms. Miller says that Shioji is described by former players as being a great in game coach during a run at natl champs.

i’d like to say that about our Coach Mack. what i will say is dat man is not taking advantage of his friendship with ST and staying at the Holiday Inn Express. last nite I wuz alluding as much when talking about da great young guy Earvin Sione. working haard, reaaalll haard, studying, puttin on weight, gettin ready to play! and somebody neva tell somebody da rules so da left hand neva no wat da right hand stay doing, and day stumbled across da parchment like in da middle of the season. pffttt,
da babooze fakta is da babooze fakta. i no like da babooze fakta comin full bloom samoa. da coaches can fix dat one. can fix dat kine, read on.

if wuz me, and i know recruiting coming up reall soon, i’d be making my message board for the potential recruits, AND da present “red shirts” and ALL the players. dat way I’d no who i gotta send papers to NCAA 4, what kine papers to send NCAA, what kind tests each got and the scores each got, and all what I’d gotta do. i would get dat done, and i wouldn’t need Holiday Inn Express fo figa dat out. what would I do? I’D GET SLUGGER TO HELP OUT.. NO B.S., I’D GET A smart VOLUNTEER, OR A TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS, TO HELP OUT ON DAT ONE. give one person assignment to be in charge, assign peeps part of da list. and dat way, i’d less likely have da Okla WR (who went Tulsa) problem again.

JD, Mack, Tony, what, you going blame short staff?

    shhheeeeeshhh ……

Blaze neva make nice nice yestaday. he just wen pump up da team.
dats what i’m trying fo do too.

There are several “regulars” who sell tickets outside the STan Sheriff Center. I’m sure you can pick up one from there.

If you;re not comfortable with that, then buy any available ticket at the box office. Many good seats remain empty because they belong to season ticketholders who never come to the games so you can move down to a better seat once the match starts.

Had the craziest dream last night…

Dreamt I was at the SSC for Dave Shoji’s #1000 win on Saturday and I had obstructed seating, of course the SSC has NO obstructed seating… Anyway I walked onto the concourse during the 10 minute break to see there was a “head-butting contest” taking place and Nick Rolovich was about to challenge Joe Onosai. 😯 I walked away not wanting to see the end result and after coming out of the bathroom I wondered if Rolo had a chance only to see him being carried away in a stretcher. I guess Onosai won that battle… 😆

    ST,

how come UH was ‘turned down’ by WSU and a high school to use their fields? isn’t this something that is arranged far in advance?

i ask this because last year when UH went to play Utah State, they were in the same predicament. UH was going to do their walk throughs in the parking lot of the Marriot Hotel in Ogden…..I know because I was also there.

In a last minute call, someone called Coach Ron McBride of Weber State and asked him if they could come up to use a practice field….and he welcomed them with open arms. If I remember correctly, wasn’t Coach McMackin an assistant at one time under Coach McBride?

Alls well ends well, just interesting that it seems to be a ‘last minute’ effort more and more frequently for attaining practice fields on the mainland.

Have an exciting day in Idaho…….yeeeee haaaaw

    Isleboy:
A hundred years ago, when I lived in an apartment complex in town, there was a malfunction in which the steaming hot water would find its way into the toilet system. I actually figured out how to fix it. Then my neighbors started asking for help. Then I was unclogging neighbors’ toilets until Wena finally said: What are you doing? Stop it.
Now I produce waste instead of actually fixing it.

i am not even going to comment on your last post……too tempting, but i smell a trap, haha.

  74. Stephen Tsai October 16, 2009 9:38 am

In Sione’s case, UH sort of benefitted. I don’t believe he was a qualifier out of high school. By going to another non-football-playing school, he was able to join UH in a year instead of the two years it would have taken if he had gone the JC route.

  76. Garret October 16, 2009 9:39 am

Article about the 23 players from Hawaii that play for Montana Western, recruited by Tommy Lee’s some Pohai.

Just months earlier, the 6’4’’ 260-pound kid from Wahiawa, Hawaii, had met Pohai Lee, a recruiter from Western who traveled to the islands and convinced Haunga that he had one of the best kept secrets on the mainland: a very small school, in a very small town, on the edge of a cold mountain range, where Polynesians were coming by the dozens to play football and be happy. There was no official visit. Haunga signed his scholarship offer to play offensive line and told Lee he would be arriving that August.

Two years later, Haunga is one of 23 Hawaiians playing football at the NAIA Western, comprising more than a quarter of the Bulldogs’ roster. That number has been growing for nearly ten years, adding a layer every year in large part due to the soft-spoken Lee, a native Hawaiian whose father, Tommy, was the former head coach of Western for seven years before Rich Ferris took over in 2007.

Lee breaks his recruiting on the islands into two trips: In the summer months, he identifies prospects by running a football camp, keeping his desired signing range from 10 to 15 athletes per year. He then flies in during Christmas, along with most of his players, and garners signatures. Lee’s network on the islands is intricate and extensive; he scouts players at 27 high schools on the island of Oahu alone. Lee said his current players are his best tools: young men who come home from an alien world and spread the word of Western. Haunga said he has been able to convince several players and several cousins to come to Dillon.

“There’s a lot of people that fall through the cracks,” Lee said. “Diamonds in the rough. We’re fortunate enough to get them.”

Several years ago, there was a threat of a shipping strike.
So one of our reporters wrote that Isle residents “might have to make do with less toilet paper.”
We all thought it was a hysterically inadvertent pun.
The writer didn’t, and got all habuts.

  78. Stephen Tsai October 16, 2009 9:41 am

Then again, I’m the one who wrote on JJ coming out of a coma after an accident: “He’s more alert when he’s awake.”

  79. Garret October 16, 2009 9:41 am

    ST,

Regarding #76, I fail to see how UH benefited from now knowing that Sione wouldn’t be able to redshirt this season…especially considering how thin the DE position got due to injuries.

  80. A-House October 16, 2009 9:42 am

Well, well, another birthday, but this one is for RONNIE – Happy Birfday and many more to come!!

  81. PowderPuff October 16, 2009 9:50 am

ST – you are on a roll starting with the photo on FB of “My Office.” I am cracking up reading your posts. There’s something in the air – maybe a WIN for our Warriors!!!!

  82. djmitcho October 16, 2009 10:00 am

Isleboy, I think it’s a great opening schedule for 2010…wanna get better…play the big boys. Army and Colorado are both very winnable games for the warriors, even on the road.

  83. Stretch October 16, 2009 10:07 am

UH can no longer get teams to come play in Hawaii without a return game at their field. I think it makes sense for UH to scheudle the back to back non-conference road games. They are able to stay on the mainland and play two games. I think this will be the norm for all future football schedules.

  84. djmitcho October 16, 2009 10:08 am

    stretch,
as long as it’s scheduled like 2010, where they have a home game after the 2 road games, that way the WAC can’t screw us with the 3 road game in a row.

  85. chopsueyboy October 16, 2009 10:09 am

    ditto stretch & djmitcho

until the Wacky Wac schedule comes out and we’re on the road again

  86. chopsueyboy October 16, 2009 10:09 am

    like this year

  87. djmitcho October 16, 2009 10:10 am

A friend posted this comment on FB…best sign seen at a football game…Boise is not a state

  88. djmitcho October 16, 2009 10:11 am

Come to think of it that would work for those guys from fresneck too.

  89. dittohead October 16, 2009 10:20 am

“Army and Colorado are both very winnable games for the warriors, even on the road”.

    LMFAO.

  90. Garret October 16, 2009 10:31 am

    Regarding #87,

JD scheduled Charleston Southern at home after the back-to-back road games next year. So, there is no way for the WAC to make the Warriors play 3 games in a row on the road next season…so, the schedule is exactly set up how djmitcho mentioned.

I like that the Warriors have their D-IAA game to tune things up before the start of WAC play.

  91. Garret October 16, 2009 10:32 am

    djmitcho,

The Cal State schools use “State” at the end–SJSU, SDSU, Fresno St., etc. The UC schools are in a different system and start with UC-xx.

  92. Garret October 16, 2009 10:34 am

I would prefer that the Warriors play the D-IAA team as their season opener, but that isn’t possible if they want to have USC play at Aloha Stadium. At least this way the offseason workouts will have the motivation about facing USC in the opener.

  93. Garret October 16, 2009 10:36 am

Article about how the MWC’s TV deal hurts them in scheduling BCS conference teams.

But it may be that BYU, Utah and the other seven members of the Mountain West Conference are fighting for high-profile games with one hand tied behind their backs by the league’s TV deal.

A friend (who wanted to remain nameless) who works at a TV sports network pointed out that MWC teams have a problem when it comes to scheduling a home-and-home series with, say, Ohio State. Buckeye fans expect to be able to see their team play. And there’s considerable skepticism out there that they’d be able to see their team play a road game in a MWC stadium.

Most of them have never heard of The mtn. Some of them probably get the channel as part of their DirecTV subscription and aren’t even aware they have it.

  94. westsidesview October 16, 2009 10:38 am

we had a d1aa team to tune up this year….lots of good that did….lol.

  95. Garret October 16, 2009 10:38 am

It is quite likely that Comcast will buy NBC Universal–that has been under serious discussion for over a week now. If it happens, the MWC might end up with a much better network showing their games.

If you haven’t kept up with the TV industry buzz, it appears that General Electric and Comcast are close to a deal that would give Comcast control of NBC Universal. It’s complicated, but the end result would be that Comcast would own 51 percent of NBCU and would combine its cable networks with NBC and its cable networks.

Comcast owns Versus. And there’s talk that Comcast envisions combining Versus with NBC Sports to create a channel that would be a genuine competitor to ESPN.

  96. Garret October 16, 2009 10:40 am

Must be nice to have such a big recruiting budget that a coach can use a helicopter to see as many high school games as possible. The biggest benefit of this is the attention that the helicopter and coach will get at each game.

Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron will be going from high school to high school in the Atlanta area on Friday night. And they will use a helicopter to do so.

The UT coaches be aboard a helicopter and land at Martin Luther King High School, which hosts Stephenson from Stone Mountain, Ga., to watch a number of prospects.

UT’s coaches will fly to North Gwinnett High in Suwanee, Ga., to watch highly touted offensive lineman Jawuan James, who visited UT last weekend.

  97. Garret October 16, 2009 10:44 am

UH made a lot of mistakes in the season opener, so it was good they were playing a D-IAA team that had never beaten a D-IA team before. Plus the D-IAA team lost their star QB to graduation and their starter was out due to injury. If UH had opened with a D-IA team, maybe the first game would have gone differently…

The improvement made after the first game was key to the fast start against Washington State…so, I stick by my point that opening with a D-IAA team can be beneficial to the team.

  98. LizKauai (iPhone) October 16, 2009 10:47 am

Im sticking with the folks in Las Vegas and Phil Steele–they are professionals. So far, Steele is on point–didnt you pick Hawaii to win more than 10 and go to the Hawaii Bowl?

  111. kokua October 16, 2009 11:21 am

    yep, Steele was deadeye correct!

  112. Garret October 16, 2009 11:38 am

    dittohead,

Nope, I never posted that and I challenge you to try to find any prediction from me that is even close to that. You are so busy attacking bloggers that you have no idea how to keep the people straight…who has lost track of reality here?

Phil Steele has mentioned many times that it benefits D-IA teams to open with a D-IAA team. So, you bringing him up to try to support your point is pretty funny. Who has lost track of reality here?

I thought that UH would lose both the Fresno State and Louisiana Tech games because the power rushing attacks were a bad matchup for UH. That is why I did not post a score prediction for either game. In fact, on Ed’s e-mail contest I predicted that UH would score 17 points against Fresno State and that the margin of victory would be 14 points. I won a Warrior cap and some other things for that.

  113. green light October 16, 2009 11:43 am

shhesh garret why you so upset

  114. A-House October 16, 2009 11:43 am

I’m glad we decided to buy tickets to the UH volleyball game tomorrow.

It will be good to see a packed Stan Sheriff with the noise level beyond belief – just like the good old days.

Perhaps we will witness history should the Wahine win. Being part of history is sometimes intentional and sometimes unintentional. Sometimes you make history and other times you just witness it. Whichever, it is still something to savor and talk about for years to come.

Interesting that Banachowski had an 8 year head start, but only 95 more wins than Shoji. Says a lot for Shoji.

  115. letsgowarriors October 16, 2009 11:59 am

that so retarded bc i was calling out and questioning sione’s eligibility back in july. however, 4 to play 4 is much better than 3 or 2 to play 2. word on the street is that veni manu is taking the similar (same?) route attending UH-WO this semester. mack and tuioti better know what theyre doing next time around.

  116. Kazz (Win #1000 comes on SAT 10/17/2009!!!) October 16, 2009 12:04 pm

  117. A-House October 16, 2009 12:08 pm

Going to UH West Oahu and UH-Hilo would count as a “year” even if they do not have a football program?

What role does the “compliance” office play in helping coaches determine eligibility “time” for athletes?

  118. letsgowarriors October 16, 2009 12:10 pm

yes they count, regardless of having a sport or not, as soon as u go full time at any institution, your clock starts.

  119. Stephen Tsai October 16, 2009 12:11 pm

Actually, I think it used to be that the clock didn’t start if a player went to a non-football-playing school. That was one of the loopholes UH found.

Oops… Nevermind. They do at Gym II from 5pm to 7:30pm and it’s open to everyone.

Maybe I should read the paper first next time! 😳

  126. Stephen Tsai October 16, 2009 12:24 pm

    A-House:
The problem with signing day is that it’s in February, which means nobody is eligible at that time, since fulfilling core classes is a requirement. You can’t fulfill them until graduation, I imagine.
So it comes down to projections. You hope that the folks you sign will make it, but many slip down the stretch. And then some are surprises. I think there was a widespread belief that Ryan Mouton wasn’t going to have enough credits to transfer. But he made it, and he became a very good student at UH.
I view a compliance officer like a CPA. You want the best benefits and loopholes without breaking rules. The problem with the CO in the past was that he would reject suggestions outright without exploring them.

While on the subject of Idaho, why is it that the University of Idaho and WSU have a Navy ROTC detachment? I don’t see any oceans nearby those two schools, Hawaii has played a major role in our nation’s Naval history, yet the U.S. Navy has never saw fit to offer NROTC at UH? Hard to figure out.

Oh boy… After reading todays article its good to hear that the scuffle between Blaze and Leonard sparked the team but why did it have to come to that?

The Idaho game is a must-win. The senior leaders should have helped motivate the team (sans Blaze getting rough) and more importantly the coaches should have our guys “on edge” in desperate times.

    #121 post,

that is correct, and that is why some players went to HPU right? but now isn’t that under review for Soares? also, the interpretation of West Oahu not being part of the UH system was being discussed. isn’t that the situation with the OLineman Olivao? forgive the spellings.

now it is harder than ever for a JC player; if you do not go ‘in’ as an academic qualifier, you HAVE to have your AA when you come out, or you cannot play at a 4 year school, or at least that is my understanding.

    {on soapbox}

Having to go up to Baltimore for work today, I’m just a little irked at the genius who decided it was prudent to pile all of us on a charter bus to head up there.

My (and other coworkers’) mindset from the beginning was that we’d be better off just taking Amtrak up there, especially given the horribleness of the traffic on the B-W Parkway…..AND considering today’s Friday.

    Sure enough:
1.5 hours to get from D.C. to Baltimore
2 hours to return from Baltimore to D.C.
    Amtrak travel time: ~40 minutes

Add in the Metro commute time to get to/from our charter bus rendezvous point and the 35 minutes I had to wait for my bus to go home…..it’s been a long day. Just got home, calling it quits until tomorrow.

    Sorry just had to vent.

Is there something you would like recorded until you get it repaired?

compliance office messed up on azngamer808 eligibility.
we thought if he graduated UW in 4 years, he could play anywhere on the 5 th year, but UH compliance said that rule was omitted only for football,
all other sports still has that allowance. the only way azngamer808 could play football was if he applied for a graduate program at a d2 or lower level.

amazing that the guard from Duke basketball team could graduate in 4 years and transfer this year and play as a quarterback for Syracuse without sitting out a year. seems like UH compliance office interpretation was incorrect. there went his dream of playing for the Warriors. Auwe!

Ah. I fondly remember those occurrences. Gotta be aggravating for folks like yourself (or others) who might have little recourse for action.

It’s just sheer volume (of cars) out here. Still kind of perplexing that one of the main thoroughfares between D.C. and Baltimore only has two lanes in each direction.

    Oh well.

  159. Kazz (Win #1000 comes on SAT 10/17/2009!!!) October 16, 2009 2:11 pm

Got more reading done on my lunch hour and I enjoyed the piece on the Bows. UH fans that actually attend games, for the most part, will always be flocking to the next possible program that may have a better chance of success in their respective sport than the previous one they supported that struggled This season may be no different. Just like how the “non-regulars” flocked to Murakami stadium during the Rainbows’ mostly successful regular season, the non-regulars may be looking for a new reason to flock to the SSC for Bows’ basketball if the Warriors cannot shake themselves out of this current funk.

This season’s squad may have more “swagger” to them with the additions of Williams and Lay and the added confidence in Roderick Flemings. Not just as a talent, but Flemings is going to have to be a more vocal leader than last season to inspire success. He and Bill Amis will be the senior backbones of this 2009-2010 team.

Last sports season (fall 08 and spring 09) was a troublesome one. A 7-7 football season after 12-1 when people expected more of the same, a lackluster mens basketball season, and a women’s basketball controversy made headlines for the most part, but like a breath of fresh air the Rainbow baseball program gave people hope. The hope to end the sports season on a high note.

This season, as the Warriors look to still make a positive lasting impression on the 2009 season, the Rainbow Warrior Basketball team should know that in the beginning the stands may be packed and loud… To retain that, it will be up to them.

    A-house,

If you find that you need to replace your DVD/VCR… you may want to look at something like the following that allows you to record directly onto a hard drive and copy files to and from any computer via USB or LAN. You can also attach a cheap external DVD r/w to it to copy your recorded files.

It doesn’t come with a hard drive, you have to supply your own. You can get a 1TB hd for less than $100 these days. That would give you enough space to record over 1000 hours of HD quality movies/video.

  182. Ralph October 16, 2009 3:58 pm

Kazz are you going to the mbb practice tonight? Player straw poll list Hiram Thompson as the best passer and Adams as the fastest players, both from last years squad. I hope the two new recruit guards step up and bring a lot more leadership, passing and flow into the game. Kind of disappointed that the early straw poll did not list either one as the best passer in fall workouts and a part time starter, Adams at forward, being the fastest player to date.

Does anyone remember what the mood was like during the 2000 and 2005 seasons?

Were people more forgiving because in 2000 we still weren’t used to winning seasons on a regular basis?

Were people more forgiving in 2005 because you could see hope for the future with Colt, Bess, RGM?

  191. FloridaTed October 16, 2009 4:26 pm

    J-Dog,

You’re probably right on both counts, but now, since 2007, you have to add a whole bunch of spoiled band-waggoners to the equation, therefore the frenzied and pitchfork type of criticism spewed against the coaches etc, after every loss.

Thoughtful analyses, why the team is where it is, like two years in a row an entire offense and than defense disappearing, is almost impossible to come by. I will not start any SERIOUS judgement until year three.

  192. chopsueyboy October 16, 2009 4:33 pm

    year 3, new offensive line?

  193. chopsueyboy October 16, 2009 4:34 pm

when will everything be balanced out?

Kazz file a report after practice, i would think the first hour would be conditioning and walk thru of the offense to give the newbies an idea of what’s going to happen during the practices that will follow tonight’s intro. First game is October 30, UH Hilo.

Don Weir posted this last Friday about the bikes, and i followed last Fri:

    Tsaiko Bike Donors
bhf2 spoke with the sales rep on Saturday around 11:00 am. I read his blog posting so I went on-line and ordered the bike one hour later as shown in a previous post, paid for the bike, and was told the same as bhf2 that the bike would be shipped on Tuesday and be here no later than Friday. I received the foillowing e-mail, a phone call, and follow up e-mails today (2). I received the e-mails form the corporate office at
    ship@mercantila-inc.com
    I authorized shipment referenced below..

    E-Mail #1
    Hi DONALD,

We’re writing with an update on order number # 485077. Please do not reply to this email — it’s from an automated address.
    Order Update
Today at 2:57pm PDT we processed your order and sent it to the warehouse for shipping.
    What’s Next?
Your order will be scheduled for shipment by the warehouse. Usually this happens within 1 business day. We will email you with the estimated ship date as soon as this happens.

    Thank you!

    Best,
    Mercantila Team

    Post Phone Call

    Hi Don,

I apologize you were mislead by our sales rep. This is not the way we wish to represent our company. Unfortunately, we can never guarantee the date of shipment on any item we sell as this is up to our warehouse and FedEx. This item cannot possibly arrive at the guaranteed date of Tuesday and all Hawaiian, Alaskan, and International shipments require us to obtain a ship quote and get approval from that customer. This is a process that extends the shipment of items beyond the promised date, in this case, of Tuesday.
I have processed the order and will do all I can to get this item to you as soon as possible. I apologize for the inconvenience in the matter and regret that you were given information which is not true in this case. We, once again, do not ever wish to represent our company this way.

    Hi,

We are processing your order and due to the fact that your item will be shipped outside the lower 48-United States, we have quoted an additional shipping charge of $42.65. In order to go ahead and proceed with the order, we will need your approval on the shipping charges, or, if you have an address we can use in the lower 48-States, we would be glad to update your shipping address and ship it there. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can get your order processed and shipped! Thanks, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

    Regards,

bhf2, any suggestions on what do we do from here?? I will be off line for the next two days.

Then I saw Don’s #275 yesterday, and TyAiea’s inquiry, then Don tellin us its all good now and they’re waiting for some kinda connection from
Hawaiian air and the shipper. in LV. sum kinda bs.

tomorrow I’ll follow up again with the Mercantila, see if its here already or wat. order no. 485077.

The blog imposter has learned to spell “attitude” correctly after dozens of posts, my prediction remains the same, Idaho 24-17.

  206. bighilofan2 October 16, 2009 6:00 pm

    Diogenes,

you’re right in refering to MOJO as a rules man, but perpetuities i dunno.. 😀 sticks an stones is my expertise. 😀

My suggestion is: SLUGGER. my second choice is: SLUGGER.

she is available. you wanna know what is the real problem, if there is a problem. actually, if there is a problem, there are two:

    H A R D H E A D S ! ! ! L A Z Y H E A D S ! ! !

  207. madeinhawaii October 16, 2009 6:03 pm

Maybe we should have just ordered the bike through Walmart.com

  208. bighilofan2 October 16, 2009 6:06 pm

    Diogenes,

the first problem is not the rules. the first problem is identifying all the peeps, and then charting them all out with a basic board, like ACT, when stuff started for each, etc. these days of computers, can load lots of stuffs on da computah. my reading of the AD office is get some old peeps in there that are good for PR, keeping the calendars, making the calls, being polite, stuff like that, but the nitty gritty of keeping up with the Sione, the JUCOs, the person has to be able to interact with the coaches, talk to them and get info. part of the deal is to make a schedule for a day every week or so and run the names by and get everybody on the same page, way before the LOI and make sure no body falls through the cracks.

we’re gonna get better anyway because the crack is gonna get smaller as the problem children get identified, but it didn’t have to get there in the first place. that is what having extra help is all about.

and my vote is Slugger. I said this earlier this summer.

  209. bighilofan2 October 16, 2009 6:09 pm

Slugger, not like she going call plays or stuffs. she ran a program at a major U. knows the spreadsheet format, yada yada.

I thought hard water felt like the soap was not completely rinsed off. Soft water is largely mineral free and rinses the slimey feeling off.

Is that not what water softeners do?

When I travel to areas of the country where there is a lot of limestone rinsing off is always a chore because it feels like I am still covered in soap. In Hawai’i no problem.

‘Course, I could have it completely inside out.

However, a few of us will at Genji’s tomorrow for the game and lunch. I am guessing that it might not be crowded, so no reservations necessary. If you are new there and arrive before me, just say you are a Tsai-ko. Doors open at 10:00 AM. Location and more info at:

late response to chopsueyboy, MIH, and LizK:

our problem is that a disc is stuck and machine will not “eject” it.

we need the machine to be cleaned/maintinance work and get the disc.

mih: i will call the number listed and hope to get touch with the repairman who works out of his house – hope he lives in Kaneohe!

we need a VHS/DVD machine as we have a lot of VHS which needs to be transferred to discs.

checking with the Navy PX, they have a very limited supply, if any, of the VHS/DVD player/recorders because VHS tapes are nearly extinct – get plenty DVD recorders/player machines.

  227. wafan October 16, 2009 6:50 pm

Nearing bed time. The week was tough with morning and afternoon meetings.

Administration is trying to figure out why the kids are failing classes. I suggested it was because they and/or their parents did not care or had other concerns such as putting food on the table or making the mortgage payments, and, maybe it is that not every kid needed or was destined to attend or graduate from college.

It was like I was talking to the wind. They will figure it out one day. Hopefully, soon.

  228. wafan October 16, 2009 6:55 pm

    Mr. A-House . . .

It was mentioned earlier that Costco has a DVD/VHS machine in stock. I believe it is a Sony.

Even with the disc stuck in the machine, it might be less expensive to just purchase a new one rather then to try and have the disc removed. Unless the disc is irreplaceable.

  229. LizKauai (iPhone) October 16, 2009 7:02 pm

The debate over whether or not Texas and Oklahoma should continue to play a game in Dallas each year instead of schedule home-and-home deals provides some interesting revenue numbers:

Texas and Oklahoma each get $5 million every year for playing at the Cotton Bowl. They chose to stay at the Cotton Bowl over going to the new Cowboys’ Stadium after the Cotton Bowl expanded the stadium.

Texas makes $6 million per home game

Oklahoma makes $4 million per home game.

If estimates of $500k profit per Warrior home game are correct, then playing a game at a neutral site (say the new stadium in the City of Industry when it is done) could make a lot more money for UH. For example, what if the game against BSU were played in LA each year and each team got $1 million from the game. Now, UH gets $500k or so for home games and zero for road games, so UH makes $500k over 2 years…playing at a neutral site would make $1 million each year.

The numbers are just estimates of course, but economics could work out in favor of the Warriors playing a neutral site game each year. Plus, playing a game in an area on the mainland that UH recruits in could really pay off for UH. BSU (and Fresno State) gets a lot of recruits from the LA/Orange County area so they would benefit also.

  259. Garret October 16, 2009 9:19 pm

Or, UH could have their game against Louisiana Tech each year in Dallas or Houston (Reliant Stadium maybe?). That would save UH from having to travel to Ruston and La Tech from having to travel to Honolulu, and give them a game each year in a place where they would like to recruit.

    thanks for the infor LizK.

wish us luck. i think we’ve been cheated by Mercantila. it won’t be the first time Mercantila Inc. has been accused of fraud. the trouble was, when i looked up da schwinn bike on google the number they gave made it seem like it was a Schwinn dealer and the number went to Mercantila. not having heard the name before, i thought it was a good name, and my friendgot his bike from Oregon and Mercantila’s office was in Oregon.

but I promise you that tomorrow I’ll spend some time on this problem and see if i can’t shake things loose if it isn’t already here. we shall see.

I share your frustration that O-Line play is not up to expectations (heck, on both sides of the line for that matter). It really seemed we had enough depth to make up for any contingency. I was wrong; the injuries threw a significant monkey-wrench into the works. Let’s hope the back-ups step-up & a few guys heal-up. It’s not too late to shift gears, but I know fans will appreciate it if it happens sooner rather than later.

Idaho’s 5 players from Hawaii have the extra motivation that UH didn’t want them. UH cannot take all the recruits in Hawaii due to scholarship limitations, so I’m glad that they are having success elsewhere…though I’d be happier if they were 5-2 after the game.

Idaho linebackers JoJo Dickson and Robert Siavii have a lot in common. At the top of that list is a chip on their shoulders.

Dickson and Siavii (pronounced See-uh-vee-ee) are Hawaii natives who had to come to the mainland to fulfill their wishes of playing college football. The Vandals’ starters are looking forward to Saturday’s home game against their hometown Warriors.

An Idaho win would make the Vandals bowl eligible and give five Hawaii natives on the roster some bragging rights. Running back/kick returner Kama Bailey, reserve linebacker Conrad Scheidt and reserve defensive lineman Isaiah Lavea are the other Hawaii natives.

“They kind of overlooked us coming out of high school and we both ended up over here,” Dickson said. “That’s the home team where everyone from Hawaii wants to play.”

Neither Dickson nor Siavii received scholarship offers from the Warriors, which turned out to be good news for Idaho.

  312. Garret October 17, 2009 5:43 am

Idaho only plays 2 LBs in their nickel defense (which they will use for pretty much the whole game against UH) and both Hawaii guys are the LBs in their nickel D. So, they will be on the field the whole game today.

Dickson, a junior, ranks second on the team with 33 tackles and shares the team lead with two interceptions. Siavii, a sophomore, is fifth in tackles with 28 and also has three quarterback hits, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.

“Robert plays 100 mph and just plays at a different speed than a lot of guys,” linebackers coach Rob Christoff said. “JoJo has the most experience and understands the defense as well or better than anyone on our team.”

  313. bighilofan2 October 17, 2009 5:44 am

now, we gotta deal with Bailey. He’ll be motivated t da max too.

I’m hoping our Warriors are motivated to the max too.

aloha my brother, no worries about The Beast 🙂 he is doing very well with Weber State, and the fact is that not everyone can play for UH. Last year Ryan only had 1 college game under his belt before playing UH, and he did pretty good against the Warriors, the film does not lie.

Student athletes who go away to pursue the sport they love, RELISH the opportunity to play against UH, and YES it does motivate them…….just to validate that they can still play the game at a higher level.

The Beast was blessed with being awarded Big Sky Conference Defensive player of the week for his 3 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss last week against Eastern Washington University.
