The duel between Brent Rausch and Bryant Moniz for the No. 2 quarterback’s job is expected to continue through early next week. Rausch and Moniz split reps today.

  8. Pride. August 28, 2009 10:09 am

Was looking forward to Chris Leatigaga having a very good year. I think that he has a lot of potential and looked good in the spring game. Hope his rehab goes real well and he has time to contribute during the season.

  9. al August 28, 2009 10:10 am

    wow, just a week away.

  10. al August 28, 2009 10:12 am

i hope we don’t have any more major injuries.

if his rehab is slow to take place…would a medical hardship be an option?

  11. al August 28, 2009 10:16 am

    stopped by chin’s yesterday.

    yup, the food’s still good.
nothing better than freshly prepared chicken wings.
the s n p shrimp was awesome, too.

it was cool that when we walked in the chinese man asks if they could prepare anything else besides the array of great food that was already out.

that crispy roasted chicken was sooo ono, too.

    all that stuff for 10.95.

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Mahalo to all those who donated money to the purchase of the bike for the football team.

Mahalo to Don Weir for donating the two sideline passes for the Utah St game.

  20. Unkanesson August 28, 2009 10:48 am

    Howzit Tsaiko Nation!!
    7 days and counting…
FWIW, I wonder if the naming of a #2 QB is critically important. It sounds like we have two good backups, depending on the circumstances. In the event GA goes down or is ineffective, if our O-Line is providing adequate protection, we put in Raush, if not we put in Moniz. As long as the coaching staff prepares them both equally well, I’m not going to worry about who’s ahead of whom.

ST — I enjoyed the pic’s from the workout at Aloha Stadium. Haven’t heard or read much about Kealoha Pilares throughout this preseason. Is he being upstaged by newcomers, or are they keeping the spotlight off him so as to surprise the opponents, or what?

Capitol -ist/WassupDoc — Re your post #238 last night — did you get the info you wanted about Mac’s? If not, I may be able to help.

  21. letsgowarriors August 28, 2009 10:51 am

    Whoosh-
busy day, no can play –

Don Weir was right at the FRONT of the receiving line for the Wahine Clinic. It was a PLEASURE to meet him. He mentioned needing a Tsai-ko logo sticker (heavy duty) to place somewhere on the bike. A-Joe????

    Whoosh!

  24. al August 28, 2009 11:03 am

#2 qb gets significant amount of reps in practice and therefore is more up to snuff in the game plan.

#3 very little and the rest get mental reps only.

    thus, the importance.

  25. wafan August 28, 2009 11:03 am

Does anyone know if other teams have as many bad injuries as the Warriors before the season?

  26. al August 28, 2009 11:06 am

    wafan…definitely.
    football is a violent sport.

the great programs just reload. hopefully one day we will achieve a status such that we have that kind of depth.

  27. letsgowarriors August 28, 2009 11:10 am

tsai, what other “greyshirts” are enrolled part time?

  28. whitey August 28, 2009 11:11 am

wafan, met ed m, the maui select bandmaster, the other night and i told him that you knew and helped him. he said that there is no band camp anymore and today they won’t go the extra mile for the kids. gone are the old days. he asked me for your name and i told him i only know your blog name.

  29. Unkanesson August 28, 2009 11:17 am

If the difference in prep (rep) time is that substantial, then maybe it would be best to give the #2 slot to the guy whose skills are different from the #1 guy, figuring if #1 is struggling, it may have something to do with defensive pressure, and we need someone to counter that. If that makes sense, then Moniz may be da guy.

  30. Pu C. Galore August 28, 2009 11:18 am

I just had some lasagna. It was good.

  31. Stephen Tsai August 28, 2009 11:22 am

*sniff sniff* Aaaah, I love that new post smell… 😆

Nothing like a duel to sharpen someone’s game. Good luck to those two QBs.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to Chris Leatigaga.

how did shane austin fall out of the running? i thought there was nothing but great things said about him during the spring, not to mention he was awarded a scholarship.

  49. Ralph August 28, 2009 12:09 pm

BigHilo’s name not on the original list because he forgot to mail his check in, too busy counting, counting, and the figure always changing. Very confusing for the ancient one, so he calls liz for help. No help because more checks came in later and the numbers changed again. Final tally, he happy, sends checks to Weir, only to realize his check is at home and he is in the office mailing the checks to Weir. But we all love ethe big guy, without him, no bike and the JUGS machine would still be idle.

Al — I already suggested to WassupDoc that she go to an Apple Store (Ala Moana Center or Kahala Mall). They will answer ALL her questions and are known to do demos too. Last I heard, all reps are sent to Apple in Cupertino for extensive training — no rookie off-the-street salespersons there.

If WassupDoc wants unbiased opinions, she will not get one from me. 😆

…off to a late lunch now. Be back later.

    Hiya!

    Exer-tsai-kle? Unkanesson scores again!!!

whitey, Slugger and wafan, I just heard the sad news about our made-in-heaven wessai alumni band director… she was not offered a fulltime position – after going back to get her masters – now considered overqualified to get poor pay and 1/2 time position and now she is in freaking KANSAS!

Last week’s fb preseason game- the band could only play HALF of the alma mater… then fell silent while the cheer squad finished.
I HATE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND!!!! (and a few other things)

    oxymorons: education system

  59. royvic August 28, 2009 12:51 pm

so the question is what does Matt Leinart , Colt Brennan and Mat Barkley all have in common?

Aunty Liz ~ Stretch asked Don Weir for permission to put a Tsaiko sticker on the bike several days ago..

Don prolly thought you, being the Tsaiko Aunty of the blog, carried an unlimited supply of stickers, tees, jackets, rain gear, flags, ladies apparel, and various sundry items.

How close to the truth was I?

  62. whitey August 28, 2009 1:07 pm

lizk, sometimes we blame programs, but a lot of times it is not true. today’s politics and arse kissing is worse and to top it off, some parents are to blame for the downfall of teachers and education. in actuality, the falling of education lies with the DOE, Governor, Senators, Representatives, and parents. most of them are clueless and most do not want to face the real issues of education.

  63. whitey August 28, 2009 1:09 pm

what is the downfall and upside of the usa. education!!!!!!

  64. Pu C. Galore August 28, 2009 1:11 pm

you think this years’ QB battle for #2 is tough? Imagine when we need to find a new starter next season. Currently the coaches cannot decide between rausch and moniz, imagine if there was no greg alexander ahead of them. tough decisions next season:

    sr-rausch
    jr-austin, moniz
    rsfr-graves, nielsen, shutter
    fr-spain (verbal commit)

  65. whitey August 28, 2009 1:11 pm

also a main ingredient is the education program at UH is not what it used to be.

  66. whitey August 28, 2009 1:12 pm

pu, i like your thought, but why are you concerned about next yr when we haven’t even played a game this yr?????

  67. A-House August 28, 2009 1:13 pm

Off -topic, but if very large cities on the mainland and Calif can do it (furloughs), why can’t State of Hawaii do the same?

    Ans: Unions!!!

Not really off topic as this could affect UH coaching staffs of deciding to continue working without pay for those selected days.

  68. Garret August 28, 2009 1:17 pm

Does anyone know if other teams have as many bad injuries as the Warriors before the season?

    wafan,

Schools all around the country are being hurt by injuries–and the problem will get worse once the games start. D-IAA teams are not as deep as D-IA teams due to scholarship limitations, and Central Arkansas will be missing their top WR and their projected starting QB when they play UH.

Texas lost their top *4* TEs for the season! They have to change their offensive system–in the Spring they ran 1 TE and 2 TE sets, but they will go without a TE this season for almost all plays.

  69. Garret August 28, 2009 1:18 pm

Oops, I was supposed to blockquote wafan’s question, not bold it.

  70. XxFaithxX August 28, 2009 1:19 pm

    Howzit peeps,

South King Pho > all others in Metro Honolulu.

Close to UH, Cheap, Cool owners, and ONO!

Order the large beef bowl with the meat on the side. Spring rolls to start if you want, jazmine tea during and coffee to end. Garans you leave rubbing your belly..

Oh yeah, and I am excited about Football about to start too LoL. =)

  71. Garret August 28, 2009 1:19 pm

  72. Garret August 28, 2009 1:20 pm

Idaho news station’s website mentions Chris Tormey.

Chris Tormey is settling in as special teams and safeties coach at Hawaii. It’s a pretty low-profile position for a guy who used to be head coach at Idaho and Nevada and was most recently linebackers coach at Washington. Tormey has a high-profile repair job to do, though. The Warriors were dead last in the nation in punt returns last year and had twice as many blocked kicks as they forced. Tormey, who now (finally) has gray hair, was coached by Hawaii head man Greg McMackin when he was a player for the Vandals in the mid-1970’s.

  73. Garret August 28, 2009 1:22 pm

Pro Football Talk calls Hartline starting for Miami the most surprising rookie WR story.

Perhaps the most surprising rookie receiver story is unfolding in Miami, where Robiskie’s old college teammate Brian Hartline is making a serious run at a starting flanker job opposite Ted Ginn.

Hartline started Thursday night and led the team with three catches, five targets, and 79 yards. No other receiver had more than one catch or three targets with the starting unit. (Ted Ginn has been invisible all preseason.) The starting job was expected to go to Davone Bess (who caught 54 passes as an undrafted rookie) or Greg Camarillo.

Hartline’s ascension could leave last year’s surprise Camarillo planted on the bench. Camarillo caught a 52-yard pass late in Thursday’s game, but his post-ACL surgery lack of speed showed up dramatically on the play.

  74. Garret August 28, 2009 1:24 pm

    ST,

If you are ever in San Diego, there is a AWESOME pho place in Mira Mesa here. My in-laws love pho and have tried all of the places in Hawaii and they say that the place here has better food and service than all of Hawaii. The nice thing is that a *huge* Tsaiko-sized bowl is still $5.

  75. wafan August 28, 2009 1:24 pm

Other oxymorons (or just plain morons). Sorry if you work for them.

    Department of Education
    Department of Social Services
College or School of Education (in many states)
51% of HI high school graduates to to 2/4/tech schools (more important to figure out how many actually graduate and are successful in finding a job in their chosen field)
    Checked bag fee
    Customer Service
    School Discipline

  76. Pu C. Galore August 28, 2009 1:25 pm

i have to disagree with famous amos.

high school football is the best deal in town.

also, the 99 cent breakfast place on kamake’e st. is not too shabby:
    -2 eggs
    -2 scoop rice
    -2 meats

  77. Jack Flash August 28, 2009 1:26 pm

ST- where’s that pho from? Got 2 good spots in E. Lakes- What The Pho and Saigon Noodlehouse. Bruddah Sen at Saigon’s has a knack for remembering all his customer’s names (and his place is pretty busy!)

Let me share some thoughts I have on this matter..Take this school I worked for 30 years.. Enrollment 1960–3000—6 special ed teachers Fast foward to 1990–enrollemt 1400==special ed teachers 24….Why the drastic change in the school make up..I call this the Watt syndrome where the educated average 1 1/2 child per family and the lower level average 5 or 6. This playes a major roll in the school make up. The educated parents send their kids to private school to add to this problem.. As things stand now, many schools can not offer the upper class subject every year and when they do, they have only one of the class. This makes it very hard to schedule the students course of study

my favorite pho place is hale viet nam.
    huge bowls, portions.
great taste and quality of all foods.
friendly and often too fast service if thats possible.
one of the best french coffees w/condensed milk.
can leave spending less than zippy’s every day.

  83. al August 28, 2009 1:55 pm

    hale viet nam typical order…

spring or summer rolls w/siracha n hoi sin.

#5 rare steak on the side and beef tendons, large of course.
loads of sprouts, basil, squeeze of lemon in the broth.

perhaps a side of saute long beans w/garlic n oyster sauce.

    and the coffee.

hmmm. just made myself ono for pho.

  84. whitey August 28, 2009 1:55 pm

momo, that is what i am trying to say, don’t just blame programs because there are a lot of other major causes of why education is on a downward spiral. i have yet to witness a school (public) where they look and treat their teachers as professionals. my thinking may be outdated, but if you are teaching classes which do not require going outsdoor or working with heavy equipment, why not dress like a professional??? is it because the teachers want to be like one of the kids or is it because no one reminds them that they are professionals????

  85. al August 28, 2009 1:56 pm

    iosefa looks quite the athlete.
will he grow from a safety to a olb?

more importantly, will he bring another samoan or two for the 2010 recruit class?

  86. (Jesse) James August 28, 2009 2:00 pm

Hey ST…ever go to that place in Wahiawa??? Pho King…I think jojo went there before….or homey….

  87. FloridaTed August 28, 2009 2:06 pm

    Momo,

Just by cutting out the ridicules, wasteful spending in the military complex, it could fund most School problems and inadequacies.

Did I hear the Tsai-Meister say that Rausch and Moniz where impressive? Cool ! What does that make Alexander? This sounds very promising.

when does nanook head out north again?

  91. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 2:14 pm

Is that the REAL name JJ? “Pho King”? Are you “Jo King”?

  92. whitey August 28, 2009 2:29 pm

al, you not going believe, but got 2 more yesterday and missed another 3. migration is next thur and return the following thur

  93. whitey August 28, 2009 2:30 pm

dpk, you sure not joe kim??? hahahahaaaa

  94. wafan August 28, 2009 2:34 pm

bhf2’s name still missing from the list.

That is okay, though. The sheep already know what he has contributed, his leadership and organizational skills.

  95. Stephen Tsai August 28, 2009 2:35 pm

bhf2’s name is at the top, as an organizer. I can’t add him to the list because it double spaces.

  96. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 2:36 pm

For those who don’t have access to KGMB, the Redskins/New England game can be seen on the internet.
    http://channelsurfing.net/watch-nfl.html

Near the end of the first quarter. Washington 7 (on a Collins pass), New England 0, but who cares about the score. I’m just waiting for the second half.

  97. Stephen Tsai August 28, 2009 2:38 pm

    JackFlash:
This pho place is in Pearl Kai.
But the Saigon Noodlehouse on Keeaumoku is really good, too. I’ve got a friend Avis who recommends it, and she knows her pho.

  98. d1島 August 28, 2009 2:38 pm

That’s a pho better lunch than I had today.

  99. Pu N. Saiher August 28, 2009 2:39 pm

Next field turf should be alternate coloring per 5 yard increments like oregons autzen stadium

  100. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 2:41 pm

opps sorry. My mistake. I’n not paying attention to the game. New England 14 (2 TD receptions by Moss), Washington 7.

  101. d1島 August 28, 2009 2:41 pm

FWIW, I wouldn’t mind simply default-ing the passes to bhf2 for instigating/co-ordinating everything.

…and I think it would be…..entertaining watching him on the sideline!

  102. wafan August 28, 2009 2:43 pm

Oops. Sorry, Mr. Tsai. Missed his name at the top.

  103. d1島 August 28, 2009 2:43 pm

….besides, it’s Homecoming and who knows, maybe Marshmallow Head Man might reappear and whom better to don that outfit?

    heheheh

  104. (Jesse) James August 28, 2009 2:43 pm

al..nope, not joking. That is a real name of a place in Wahiawa. I think they pronounce it wrong though so they think it is FO…instead of the real pronunciation….LMAO….try looking it up…

  105. wafan August 28, 2009 2:44 pm

I agree. Give bhf2 the passes!!!

As the lead organizer and cheerleader he deserves them.

  106. wafan August 28, 2009 2:45 pm

    d1 . . .

The head would not be necessary.

  107. wafan August 28, 2009 2:46 pm

Thanks to al and Garret for answering the question. It just seems like we lose a lot of starting people as a result of accidents in practices.

  108. Ai C. Yupee August 28, 2009 2:53 pm

Any word on Nacho Lucha Libre?

    S

  109. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 2:54 pm

bhf2 with green hair on the sideline- priceless

  110. Ralph August 28, 2009 2:55 pm

Al and A House pessimism and optimissim won’t move the “chains” but a well executed play called in a timely manner will. Go back to your Cincy game tape. or for a change of pace, watch a tape of UH basketball, in one game we are up by 7 with a minute and a half to go, we lose by 5. Execution and time management helps, its not pessimism.

  111. pants pooper August 28, 2009 2:56 pm

    Nacho cheese chilly shonufff shawty.

  112. Ralph August 28, 2009 2:58 pm

2nd qtr when is colt expected to play?

  113. Ralph August 28, 2009 2:59 pm

i thought colt mentioned that in these last few games he was supposed to see a lot of action. where’s liz…what’s up with our Colt?

  114. Pu C. Galore August 28, 2009 3:08 pm

    Zorn is full of crap.

    Crap Galore.

  115. Garret August 28, 2009 3:12 pm

    Ralph,

The way that NFL teams organize their preseason plans, the starters and top backups play the bulk of the 2nd-to-last preseason game. That is the game where they are supposed to get ready for the season.

The starters may skip the entire last preseason game in order to avoid injury problems. That is when the 3rd and 4th QBs get to play a lot…so, last year Colt had pretty much that entire game and this year he will split the final preseason game with Chase.

All of the QBs knew that the #1 and #2 QBs would get the bulk of playing time today and the backup QBs would get the playing time in the final game. For people complaining about Zorn, this is how *all* NFL teams run their preseason.

  116. Stephen Tsai August 28, 2009 3:17 pm

Nope, we’re going to have a drawing. Now the winner can do whatever he/she wishes with the passes . . .

  117. Kekoa August 28, 2009 3:23 pm

ST ~ Is it possible to award the sideline passes to BHF2?

I got da visual of him and his krazy cousin waving his Bannah at the tunnel entrance. It would be awesome for all da Warriors to brush da bannah on their way on to the field.

  118. Stephen Tsai August 28, 2009 3:24 pm

You know, PUC — Pacific Union College — is my daughters’ alma mater.

  119. Kekoa August 28, 2009 3:24 pm

ST ~ You got ESP or wat?

  120. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 3:43 pm

    Public Utilities Comission?

  121. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 3:43 pm

    Commission I meant…

  122. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 3:44 pm

    Where’s Colt, dammit! 😆

  123. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 3:45 pm

    More Campbell?

  124. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 3:46 pm

Beginning of the second half and the QB is…still Campbell

  125. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 3:55 pm

Washington intercepts New England. And the QB is Colt

  126. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 3:56 pm

First play: threw the ball away. Second play: complete for first down under pressure

  127. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 3:58 pm

In the red zone. Flag: offside. First and goal from the 3. Incomplete pass

  128. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 3:59 pm

    Second down. Another incompletion.

  129. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:00 pm

Third and goal. Intercepted for a New England TD

  130. Kekoa August 28, 2009 4:00 pm

    Say it ain’t so Colt!

  131. mctruck August 28, 2009 4:01 pm

Aisooos!!! CB intercepted again when he needed a td in the worst way!!

  132. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 4:01 pm

    Gawl durnnit!

  133. NEO August 28, 2009 4:01 pm

    Aloha to the Tsaiko-nation:

I apologize that I haven’t been around during the off-season… as I felt that I needed time away from blogging about UH sports and whatnot to recouperate my love for all things Hawaii Athletics… That said, I’d like to come back to the Tsaiko ohana once again this season and cheer on our Warriors to great things. I know that we have sagging ticket sales and that some believe that 50K seat Aloha Stadium is a rustbucket, and that our coach may be an insensitive, foot-in-mouth speaker… But you know what? Let’s not forget what the Warriors have done for US… they galvanized a state in 2006-2007, they put us on the map, and they always give us something that we as local Hawaii residents can be proud of.
I am ready for some football, I am ready to put on my green and white, and I know that our warriors are ready to go to battle…

KIA RITE, KIA RITE KIA MAU HI!!!

    Doesn’t look good for Colt…ugh

  135. letsgowarriors August 28, 2009 4:01 pm

    pick 6 99 yards daaaaamn

  136. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:01 pm

Looks as though Colt stared at his receiver and threw slow and a bit behind the receiver.

  137. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 4:02 pm

Okay, now he’s gonna make up for it by throwing for three TDs.

  138. Dirty Commish August 28, 2009 4:03 pm

Dang Colt not looking too good… maybe he’s been overcoached???

  139. Pu C. Galore August 28, 2009 4:03 pm

    #115

    whatever dude.

  140. letsgowarriors August 28, 2009 4:03 pm

colt needs to see a sport psychologist.

  141. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:04 pm

Colt is back out for the next series. He needs to relax. He’s looking good except for the pick…just like last weeks game.

  142. labrat August 28, 2009 4:06 pm

Colt threw into coverage. He should have thrown the ball away. They had that one covered.

  143. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:06 pm

First play run. Second play, screen for 12 yards

  144. NEO August 28, 2009 4:08 pm

COME ON COLT… Play for the love man, play for the love of the game!

    NEO

  145. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:08 pm

    1st down: Run for 4
2nd down: flag, false start Redskins
    Blitz. Sacked.

  146. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:09 pm

3rd down and 16: flushed out. 2 yard run for Colt
    Time to punt

  147. Kekoa August 28, 2009 4:09 pm

    Welcome back NEO.

  148. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 4:12 pm

I am writing this while BHF2 is busy watching the game. If any one remember he already tried to dye his hair green in Florida. It came out piss yellow.

Anyway, the reason I am writing is to say that the Colt interception is BHF2’s fault. He wants him to transfer to San Fran. I guess he thinks he is too far away and he misses him.

    Signed the wife!

  149. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:15 pm

Redskins intercept. And now, the QB is…

  150. Dirty Commish August 28, 2009 4:16 pm

Colt must be really really really really tired of crappy O-line play by now…

  151. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:17 pm

It’s still Colt. I want him in San Francisco, too. Of course I’m a 49er fan.

  152. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:18 pm

    First down run
Second down: difficult throw wide left for 7 yards and first down

  153. conor August 28, 2009 4:18 pm

worst case scenario: Brennan gets put on the practice squad. He works hard, some other team looking for a solid QB picks him up. He gets the hell out of Washington.

  154. NEO August 28, 2009 4:18 pm

Colt, no matter where you are… remember the immortal phrase “HE HAWAI’I AU!!!” I AM HAWAII!!!

    NEO

  155. conor August 28, 2009 4:20 pm

    WHAT A TD PASS WHOA!

  156. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:20 pm

    First down: run
    Second down: run
    Third and 5: flag..false start.
Third and 10: TD pass by colt!!!!

  157. labrat August 28, 2009 4:20 pm

    Nice throw.

  158. Kekoa August 28, 2009 4:20 pm

    Way to comeback Colt!

  159. Slugger August 28, 2009 4:21 pm

    Yay, Colt!

  160. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:21 pm

Perfect over the shoulder pass…receiver got in in full stride

  161. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 4:21 pm

Okay, so I side tracked BHF2 so he couldn’t think and Colt threw for a TD. Yeah! Go Redskins.

  162. letsgowarriors August 28, 2009 4:21 pm

    RELIEF! let it loose now!

  163. conor August 28, 2009 4:22 pm

THAT WAS HUGE – this shows the coaches that Brennan can rebound when facing adversity. This is VERY important, almost more so than throwing TD’s.

  164. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:22 pm

    33 yard TD throw

  165. Da Punchbowl Kid August 28, 2009 4:26 pm

That’s the way- uh huh uh huh I LIKE IT!!!

Way to keep composure! Two more to go Colt!

  166. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 4:27 pm

    1. i knew it all along. 😀

    2. i said i forgot to send in my money yet. and i put R Vierra’s in even dough her $25 chck is somewhere in da black hole on my desk, ready to be exposed Monday and mailed at dat time.

    3. I said i forgot to send my check, den I said i going use da $100 fo bankruoll some “H2O” at LV’s songest. 😀 call it Na Koa entertainment expense. 😆

an just rememba, my map get peelinz. equating me an da yalla head is not nice. 😆

  167. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:27 pm

End of the third quarter. I am assuming Chase will have his chance in the fourth quarter. Colt looked more relaxed than last week, and I hope his performance is good enough for Zorn. If not, I hope Frisco comes a calling.

  168. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 4:28 pm

plus, i already get passes, i tink.

    cost of goods sold

    i beg real guuuud! 🙂

  169. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:30 pm

in hindsight, just prior to colt’s interception, i think it was first down, colt threw to the pylon and his receiver wasn’t looking. I reminisce, didn’t Jason Rivers do the fade at the corner where he turned his shoulder to use his body to shield the defender and catch the ball to the sideline side with his hands. I think colt was expecting the same of his redskin receiver to adjust at the pylon.

  170. conor August 28, 2009 4:32 pm

The announcers hit it spot on too. QB’s are going to throw interceptions, its just the way things go. Whenever a QB throws one it always seems like the end of the world, but in reality its not.

  171. Kekoa August 28, 2009 4:32 pm

Mrs. BHF2 ~ Dat guy glued to da set is lookin’ fo one Xcuse for da Coltstah to get off dat Red Skinny team like me. I know dat doze guys is yo boyz, so I gave out one War Whoop for you when Colt made dat great pass for a TD!

Tank Q for da reports from da Hilo Mancave! I hope he wins da UH sideline passes. If I win, I will give it to him. He deserves it.

  172. conor August 28, 2009 4:33 pm

Ralph: You’re right. Colt threw a perfect pass and the tight end did not get his head around fast enough. That should have been a TD.

  173. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:33 pm

why not give susan the $100 to go shopping in LV! 🙂

  174. Slugger August 28, 2009 4:34 pm

Redskins D not stopping the Patriots run. Aiyah!

    Anoddah ting:

As I was looking for tix to WVB tourney, I found group tix info. Think we’d have enuf Tsaikos who don’t have season tickets to make up a group of 20 to go to a WVB game?

    2009 WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL discounts:

Western Michigan, Santa Clara, UCLA, St. Louis, Texas, California, Weber State, UT-San Antonio, Stanford, Pepperdine, Boise State, Idaho, Nevada, San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State,
    BYU-Hawaii, Fresno State, Utah State

  175. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:34 pm

Michelle Wie drops to T11 after all the scores are in, 4 back.

  176. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:37 pm

slugger, depending on the game and night, i’d be interested in wvb. Texas is the highest ranked team coming in. I believe they are ranked ahead of Stanford and UCLA.

  177. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:38 pm

Washington gets the ball back on a fumble recovery. Colt back on the field.

  178. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:39 pm

BigHilo, are you squeezing onto the C note cuz Susan is prying it from your hands

  179. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:40 pm

First down: holding. First and 15 from Redskins 5. run for 8 yards
    .

  180. Slugger August 28, 2009 4:40 pm

Forgot to include cost of tix:

    20 people or more $8 adult, $3 child (4-18yrs.)

I used to organize group ticket purchases to D-Backs games. Just need to find out if we have enough people who want to go & what game. I’m going to the Hawaiian Air tournament to see my honey’s alma mater play UH.

  181. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:41 pm

Second down: Colt sacked. Don’t think anyone open

  182. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:42 pm

Third and 9, draw for first down

  183. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:43 pm

    First: run for 9
Second down: run for first down. 8:50 left in game

  184. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:45 pm

    First: run for loss
Second down from the Redskins 43: colt sacked. Roughing passer flag. First down

  185. conor August 28, 2009 4:46 pm

beautiful slant pass by Brennan for a 1st down

  186. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:46 pm

    First down: run
Second down: quick slant pass for a first down

  187. conor August 28, 2009 4:47 pm

Okay Colt your in redzone, lets go! no int’s!

  188. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:48 pm

First down: run for 15 yards
First down from NE 31. run

  189. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:48 pm

Second down: colt flushed out of pocket. Tried to make a throw. Incomplete.

  190. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:49 pm

Third: Colt held on to the ball too long. Sacked. Might be out of field goal range

  191. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:51 pm

Colt takes a sack, not encouraging, wants to make a play but don’t take a sack and lose yardage or fg opportunity.

  192. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:53 pm

Colt can’t be scrambling in the backfield, the game is too fast, if he wants to run go north south and be prepared to slide early.

  193. conor August 28, 2009 4:54 pm

Yeah Colt is taking way too many sacks, he’s got to go more north/south than east/west

  194. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:56 pm

Skins get tghe ball back on Redskins 2. 4th quarter, 2:42 remaining and Colt is still in. I’m surprised.

  195. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 4:57 pm

i just tinkin dat Na Koa get enuff ka la fo get 2 bikes, plus wheels, an i tinkin we’d all agree dat an evenin where da next guy sounds betta wit a crown royal is wort it.

    hehehehe

they putting Colt out there one more time. ueee haaaa.

its all in his corte. 😆

    Go Warrior!

  196. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:58 pm

vb game on. too many choices. also mililani and punahou on oc 16 tonight and st louis and leilehua tomorrow night.

  197. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 4:58 pm

ZSorn is pulling the trigger on Coltr tonight.

    Go Colt!!!!

  198. hapahaoleboy August 28, 2009 4:59 pm

this series could very well determine Colt’s fate with the Skins…at least for now…

  199. chawan_cut August 28, 2009 4:59 pm

the redskins’ offensive line is horrible. they couldn’t block a wall.

i think they haven’t played chase daniel because they’re saying to colt, its your game to show us what you got. we know what chase can do.

    2 mins left.
brennan will lead the team down the field for the victory and redemption.

  200. Ralph August 28, 2009 4:59 pm

UCLA MBs Gil at 6’5 and Camp at 6’4. we got kaufmann at 6’0.

  201. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 4:59 pm

    First down: run, no surprise
    Second down: run, yawn

  202. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 5:01 pm

    2 minute warning.
third down: Colt has to do it to keep possession

  203. chawan_cut August 28, 2009 5:02 pm

my goodness. the line can’t even block for their RB.

  204. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 5:02 pm

Third down: run for no gain. I though Zorn would be more aggressive. He’s playing not to lose, but it’s a tie game.

  205. hapahaoleboy August 28, 2009 5:05 pm

    Jim Zorn is a schmuck…

  206. Ralph August 28, 2009 5:07 pm

redskins don’t have much of a run defense, hopefully this is the 3 team defense or it could be ugly this season against the eagles, gaints and cowboys.

  207. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 5:09 pm

2 seconds left. colt’s last hurrah from Redskins 41

  208. whitey August 28, 2009 5:10 pm

i don’t know how they do it and if i did i would be rolling in dough. the oddsmakers in vegas had new england by 4, then moved to 3 1/2. they call the score almost perfect. how do they do that?????

  209. dallas fan August 28, 2009 5:10 pm

the curse of jessica lives on

  210. Ralph August 28, 2009 5:10 pm

with the exception of the sacks, colt made some good throws. in hindsight, if the TE turns and expects the ball he catchs a TD from colt, instead, 2 downs later its an INT and a runback for a TD.

  211. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 5:11 pm

Incomplete. Who cares about the score. Colt played well, but a couple of mental mistakes hurt him.

  212. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 5:14 pm

what to do what to do what to do do do doo.

    uuck! yuck yuck yuck.

  213. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 5:20 pm

i think i’m gonna wait a week to drown my soreness at da TGate.

  214. chawan_cut August 28, 2009 5:20 pm

we’ll see what happens in the last preseason game.
will they let colt play again? or let chase play? if chase has a bad game, what will they do?

  215. bighilofan2 August 28, 2009 5:20 pm

    i’m not sorry at all.

Colt showed he can stick through thick and thin.

  216. Mad Dog August 28, 2009 5:22 pm

Final stats (not that it matters)
    Campbell: 13/22, 209 yards, 0 TD, 0 Int
    Colt: 6/12, 81 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int

  217. warriorfanny2 August 28, 2009 5:22 pm

Colt, leave while u still have a chance….

  218. chawan_cut August 28, 2009 5:23 pm

    Ralph,
you’re right. that play was called for that TE. it was a quick snap and throw directly to him. how does he not know to look for the pass?
i’m thinking the coaches will take that into account as well.

  219. chawan_cut August 28, 2009 5:28 pm

i’m watching the dvr replay of the td pass.
good points by the announcers at least. saying, QB’s throw picks just as they throw TDs. its how you come back from the pick.
they compared colt’s pick and 2nd chance to how sanchez threw a pick for the Jets last week and came back to have a good showing.

  220. Derek August 28, 2009 5:29 pm

I know where Colt can land the back-up quarterback job easy. New England. Kevin O’Connell, the NE back up is terrible and the 3rd string QB, Andrew Walter, is not the answer either. Like I said, Colt’s chances are a lot better being elsewhere. He played quite well, all things considered. At the end, Zorn didn’t give him a chance to throw the ball to pick up a first down and ran the ball for no gain. That’s why I don’t care for Zorn. He makes some terrible calls. It’s the preseason to try things. Let’s see if Colt can make a play. But that’s o.k. By the end of the season, I believe Zorn will be gone. As a parting shot, the Redskins second O-L is also terrible. They can’t protect poor Colt.

  221. Committed Road Warrior August 28, 2009 5:32 pm

Colt did fine with the exception of a couple bad decisions, but will it suit the Redskins bigwigs? How much playing time will he get in the final preseason match to show team management he should remain on the squad?

You figure the backups will be getting the bulk of the playing time against Jacksonville, but will it be like tonight, except use Chase Daniel most of the way, or will the time between the two be split? Who knows, we’ll see next week.

The Washington O-Line looks like it might be a liability. Difficult time run-blocking and having to compete in a run-heavy division, they might be lucky to break even in the NFC East (again).

  222. chawan_cut August 28, 2009 5:33 pm

    derek,
o connell’s the 2nd string NE qb? oh geez.

howzit tsaiko country had a good aloha friday but have a better nite 😉

watched the coltster this afternoon and still 60/40 he will make the team (wishing he does). at times he showed signs he has grasp for the game then again not. as a back up or 3 qb, gotta be ready to come in an make good plays and decisions. 😀 but at least zorn gave him an opportunity to start the 3 qtr to prove himself. good wishes to colt in the next upcoming weeks.

  226. kama krab August 28, 2009 6:17 pm

    Howzit Everybody,

Got a bad feeling that Colt will be cut by the Redskins. Just a gut feeling. Hopefully my gut is not right but if he gets let go, he will probably land with another team. Hopefully it is the 49ers.

  227. Not an Expert August 28, 2009 6:36 pm

Being Colt was a draft pick and he has certain guarantees he will likely be the 3rd team quarterback. If Chase has a fantastic game and he has qualities that are noticed by the brass he may well unseat Colt, and Colt will be on the trading block. If Chase doesn’t show that quality and potential he will end up on the practice squad.

If Washington wants Colt, and they see him as having the ability to start one day he will be kept. Making mistakes and learning and experiencing the negatives will usually make a talented competitor that much better. Having only success early on can be more detrimental. Many times people learn more from their mistakes and if given the time most become better due to those learning experiences.

Just my opinion, and I hope the best for Colt which may be to be traded to another team.

i’m happy to see mafua setting the middles..they’ll get better because of it and Na Wahine will be better offensively. Hewitt finished 1 for 11 in the first two matches, not good, but the fact that she got 11 sets will help develop quicker.

  241. Garret August 28, 2009 8:19 pm

worst case scenario: Brennan gets put on the practice squad. He works hard, some other team looking for a solid QB picks him up. He gets the hell out of Washington.

    conor,

Washington can’t afford to try to put Colt on their practice squad…because to do so they would have to cut him first and hope that no team would sign him. I have to believe that some team would pick up Colt if he was just set free, and I’m guessing Washington knows that.

  242. Garret August 28, 2009 8:21 pm

The summary of Colt’s stats looks really bad. There are mitigating circumstances of course, but these stats would discourage other teams from trading for Colt. However, I would guess there are several teams that would pick Colt up if Washington tried to sneak him on to their practice squad.

Colt Brennan was sloppy again on Friday night in his bid to lock-up the Redskins QB3 job, completing just 6-of-12 passes to go along with one touchdown and one interception, as Washington lost to New England.

Our View: Brennan is now an abysmal 13-of-29 for 167 yards this preseason, and has thrown four interceptions in just three games. His competition for the third-string job, Chase Daniel, didn’t play tonight, but Brennan almost certainly took a step back in the battle between the two.

  243. Garret August 28, 2009 8:23 pm

This article is questionable in a lot of things (they don’t seem to know Brashton is injured, they think Lane will be a key part of the offense, etc.), but I liked what they said about Coach Tormey.

The Warriors took a positive step by picking up Chris Tormey, a former Nevada head coach and Washington assistant, to recast a unit that yielded six blocked kicks and was last in the nation in punt returns. He also will have his work cut out for him in replacing multiyear starters at placekicker, punter and long snapper.

KHNL article about Heather McMackin’s clinic.

More than 200 Warrior faithful were on hand at the 2nd Annual Wahine Football Clinic to learn about the team they love. They wear the green, go to the games and got “Football 101.”

“They’ve got the form and everything. They’ve got some nice arms. One lady threw it over my head and I was like wow!,” said Wide Receiver Royce Pollard.

“They could come and take one of our spots, you never know what may happen,” said Pollard.

  245. Garret August 28, 2009 8:26 pm

Article about how the UH game is the highlight of Central Arkansas’ season. I believe that this is the last year that UCA is not eligible for the postseason playoffs, so basically UH is their playoff game or bowl game.

The game against Hawaii, a Western Athletic Conference team that was in the Sugar Bowl in 2008, is a landmark game in UCA history. In addition to the best trip the Bears have ever made, the game in Aloha Stadium will represent the largest crowd a UCA team has ever played before. It’s a bowl-game type of reward experience for 23 seniors, who have never had a chance to win an unofficial championship or play in the postseason. A lot will have to break right, but it does not appear to be an unwinnable game. But literally and figuratively, the game is miles off the chart from the rest of the schedule.

  246. Garret August 28, 2009 8:31 pm

I’m surprised and pleased that Colt got so much playing time today. Pretty much all NFL teams play their starting QB into the 3rd quarter this week, which Campbell did. But I’m surprised that neither Collins nor Daniel played.

Just think how badly things could have been if Zorn showed he lost faith in Colt and pulled him after the INT. The press would have buried Colt and Zorn could have used the excuse that the other QBs needed work. Instead, Zorn left Colt in and Colt got to throw a TD pass to prove that he could come back from the INT.

Things could have gone much better, but they could have been much worse. For example, if Zorn pulled Colt after the INT and Chase threw the TD pass instead…

Congratulations to the wahine vb for their win tonight. It was a good game for them and they are much stronger in their passing and hitting. Am truly happy to see that Coach Shoji is using the entire team on offense and giving his hitters a more balanced attack. The new girls in the middle will give them depth, but they need to work on game speed. I think they are much more focused and they play in a more business like manner.

Missed Don Weir on Wednesday – never even saw a reception line but I arrived early and, other than going to the biffy and checking out the Rainbowtique, I just sat there waiting for the program to start.

This evening I arrived within a minute or so of the first set in the UCLA/Santa Clara match – talk about a blowout – so I missed the greeting team at the entrance which probably didn’t start until 6:15 or so.

    Colt on his touchdown pass:

“It was third down and they were playing a coverage that at first I did not think the play would be there but the safety stayed inside. Marko Mitchell did a great job. He was supposed to run a hitch and stop and he realized the defense had busted the coverage. So, he put his hand up and ran for the end zone. I saw him at the last second and gave it to him.”

With respect to my post yesterday concerning Macs, I don’t feel comfortable about asking someone whom I do not know to give me honest answers to questions and to provide me with tech and tutuorial support. I’m sure that the sales staff at the Apple Store know what they’re doing, but they may not be able to provide the level of impartiality we need at this time.

DrDoc and I are split on the Mac/PC issue – he thinks PCs are direct examples of the best that technology has to offer and that PCs not only cost less but also they’re more reliable. All I know is that long-time Mac users – especially those who also regularly use PCs at work – are as zealous about their Macs as LizK is about Colt Brennan.

My six-year-old bulky Dell desktop simply cannot keep me current in today’s world. On average, it crashes about four or five times a day. DD feels that we can get a satisfactory laptop for around $499 which should provide the level of reliability needed.

However, he’s willing to consider a Mac if someone will provide him with answers to questions both honestly and impartially about why spending a thousand dollars more on a laptop will result in better productivity.

I’ve made the same inquiry to several professional colleagues who use Macs and perhaps we’ll be able to move forward on the matter if no one here is able to help out.

  283. Hiya!
Fell asleep watching the dvd my son made of the Skins game.

Colt is getting there… a little more grown up and playing with the big boys. I love that his team loves him… Smoot is one of my fave personalities and his comments echo back a few weeks ago when he referred to Colt as “my quarterback”.
I was happy to see the starters with some interesting plays and more success too. When I look at how they developed Jason Campbell, I see that Colt is also going to be developed too.
He is the Redskins’ “dark horse” right now. Another year and he will be “WOW!”.

W-Doc- there was no “official reception line” Don Weir happened to be standing in the arena entry when we walked in and greeted us warmly. I did not recognize him at first and Slugger made the introductions.

W-Doc. The Apple Store is your best source of free advice. The people there are capable of handling customer care. It’s been a couple of years- but the last time I went, they were giving classes and one-on-one training. They knew their stuff.

    NN and SWD!!

  284. Pomai August 29, 2009 3:21 am

W-Doc I can see your point, they are there to sell you a product and they sure will not say anything bad or maybe not so good about their product. Same goes for a store selling PC’s. I would suggest that you research this on the net. You will get the same response from the user’s of each system as you would get from the sales people. It seem’s like either you love the or hate them for both the PC and Mac’s. Me I like cheap so I go with a PC. I bought a brand new in the box toshiba 17″ laptop for 300.00 it suit’s me just fine it has replaced my desktop and it is also portable, it’s not a gamer but then I don’t need that capability.

One more the W-Doc it really isn’t Mac vs PC it’s Microsoft Windows Vista and Mac OS X Leopard, if you open up either one your likely to see the same hardware, or at least the same manufacturer, there is really only a small pool of suppliers for hardware. So it is a software debate, operating system vs operating system.

50-1 odds this guy knows what he is talking about.

Hawaii Warriors 50-1 odds to win the BSC 2010 National Championship.

Quarterback Greg Alexander might not be the second coming of Brennan, but he did a decent job while starting the last six games of the season. On the year he connected on nearly 63 percent of his pass attempts and threw 14 touchdowns and just five interceptions. That should be enough to keep Alexander firmly entrenched on top of the depth chart. With receivers Malcolm Lane and Greg Salas back, the passing attack could be one of the best in the nation, again. The offensive line should be in good shape with the return of three starters, most notably center John Estes. That should help out running back Kealoha Pilares. He only carried the ball 56 times last season, but he averaged 5.4 yards per carry and could be in for a big year if he is given the opportunity.

UNLV’s Mike Sanford coached has some new expectations to meet in 2009 since his team, which finished sixth a year ago, was picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll. However, if his team loses to Oregon State and Hawaii early, then loses its first conference game at Wyoming, the dissenters will come out in force, again.

    Re-Increase in injuries

Some of the reasons as to why we’re seeing more football injuries.

The combination of players now days being faster, bigger and stronger is one argument.

Another one I’ve read was that a PAC-10 team (UCLA) were questioning if it had anything to do with the brand of shoes the players were wearing. This could be possible.

    Some are freakish. I agree.

And lastly, players aren’t spending adequate time before practices stretching and warming up.

Of all the arguments as to why the Warriors are seeing a lot of injuries could be anyone of the ones I mentioned.

But my gut feeling is that the Warrior players don’t spend enough time on stretching and warming up before practice. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Where I’ve seen the players come out onto the field, meet in their respectful groups and no joking it seemed like five minutes later the players were running and going through drills.

It seems like they do a few perfunctory calisthenics and then boom right into their drills.

I know the team is under time constraints, 90 mins or so for each practice, and maybe they can’t squeeze in the stretching and warming up.

But I think somewhere along the way, either before practice so it doesn’t count toward the 90 mins a team is allowed the players need the leadership and guidance to be as warmed up, flexible and limber before they jump into their drills. The age old universal argument of players not being warmed up before entering competition is not a fallacy–and it does contribute to injuries.

    Prediction

#40 for Mililani hs should be seeing a lot of scholarship offers

MLB, 6-2, 210 but looks bigger

Fast, nose for the ball, all over the field

    combine results were very good

couldn’t understand why he’s not on any prospect list (scouts, rivals, espn)

this is the type of player you wish UH would go after.

Happy Birthdays to Pride, Pomai, and Cliff

W-Doc, I got the Mac only because it seems to handle photographs better. I have a Dell Intel Core-2 which has VISTA as its operating system which tended to crash frequently. The new Windows7 is supposedly more stable and the Mac has refined its operating system (Leopard) with Snow Leopard.

I agree with Pomai – it really is system vs. system and if you are not into photoshop and its relatives, the PC might be the way to go – cheaper sometimes is better. A Corolla will get you to the same destination as a Lexus – maybe not with the same refinements.

I saw the congratulations to the three guys on their mutual birthdays, but where was it announced. Usually, those things appear in Stephen’s blog, but I don’t see it now. Anyhow, congratulations to Pride Pomai and Rainblow Cliff. How’s hes doing these days?

i think the military in iraq and afghan stopped personal emails and as a result, their time on the computer is very limited. i could be wrong, but i think that is what happened. maybe frank25 or mark takai can give us more info on this.

Bring up the Task Mgr and remove this process from running — greenav2009.exe

next…do a search for all files and folders and in the search box put greenav2009.exe…..click search….when it finds it…click on and delete.

when it is deleted….empty the trash bin and restart your computer..

    #334 that’s a lie.

  343. madeinhawaii August 29, 2009 11:13 am

Snow Leopard… great OS for running a dual boot Windows 7 machine. But it only addresses two malware. Not much hullabaloo surrounding it anymore, although it is now a full 64-bit OS… beware, it may not support a few legacy items like the Palm thingies.

  344. madeinhawaii August 29, 2009 11:34 am

RE: the Mac vs Windows7 debate…

If you are looking at laptops, then know that both now have about the same battery life on a laptop. Windows used to use more energy, but not Windows 7.

“If you want to nitpick, there are two little odd things Windows users will find on Mac hardware. First, the MacBook’s keyboard doesn’t have the “Backspace” key, which comes in handy when you want to remove text. Second, the Boot Camp control panel doesn’t include an option to change the sensitivity of the multitouch pad and there’s no separate “tab to click” options for the right and left clicks, either. ”

Remember, you won’t be able to use your existing PC software on your new Mac. That means you may have to invest even more in software.

You may want to consider “Open Office” for your Wordprocessing, Spreadsheet, Presentation and database needs.. It’s free!

    http://www.openoffice.org/

  345. FloridaTed August 29, 2009 12:55 pm

    madeinhawaii,

Is ‘Open Office’ compatible with Microsoft Word? If an agent wants to get a manuscript as Microsoft Word, can ‘Open Office’ be used?
