It’s going to be a busy Wednesday for Greg McMackin and Jim Donovan.
Both are on a business trip in Japan.
On Wednesday morning, they will meet for two hours with officials from Tokai University. In the afternoon, they will meet with business leaders to discuss a joint Hawai‘i/Japan soccer project.
McMackin and Donovan then depart from Japan. Because they’re flying across the international dateline, they arrive in Hawai‘i Wednesday morning, ready for a full day of work.
“We’re building bridges,” McMackin said of the trip, which is not being paid by state or UH funds.
Donovan said the trip already has led to:
• A proposal in which UH football telecasts will be shown on a delayed basis in Japan.
• Several of Japan’s college football teams will attend UH clinics. Some are scheduled to attend UH’s spring practice in April.
• Paving the way to sell H logo merchandise in Japan.
The itinerary shows McMackin and Donovan have met with officials from NBA Japan, NFL Japan and Japan’s college football association.

There are two reasons why UH feels comfortable about the running back position this spring: Hogan “Bulldoza” Rosehill and Kainoa Carlson.
Rosehill, who is 6 feet and 225 pounds, shut down Manti Te’o — in basketball. In the 2008 state final, Rosehill, a Kamehameha-Hawai‘i forward, scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 41-38 loss to Punahou. Te’o was held to six points. Rosehill was named to The Advertiser’s 2008 All-State basketball team.
Carlson, who is 6 feet and 220 pounds, transferred from Pacific Lutheran, where he played as a freshman.

Here’s an e-mail from John Smith of ProKick Australia:
ProKick Australia have trained and assessed Alex (Dunnachie) to the standard required for a Div 1 scholarship.
Alex is also an excellent student, and all admission paperwork has been processed.
Alex’s best recorded punt so far has been 82 yards from boot to the ball hitting the ground, with a 5.65 hangtime.
We will be releasing a press release this week.

Happy birthday to Betty (BG’s wife) and Wreckneyze.

Where is everyone?
I’m here!
Top ten, baby!
Night shift working.
Pepa, you stretching those hammies?
While Pepa wants to play guard, I think UH hasn’t given up on him being a tackle.
From the previous post:
The problem with a non-qualifier going to a JC is the clock keeps ticking. If a player can earn an AA in four semesters, which is 48 transferrable credits, then he’s good to go.
But many don’t take the necessary classes.
And if a player redshirts, then it gets tougher. That player then would be at a JC for at least five semesters. That means he would need to earn an AA and have 60 transferrable credits.
Some guys just can’t catch up.
Ah- new blog. Now I can say Nitey Nite and SWEET Warrior dreams!
So, ST, has there been any clarification of Blaze’s status? Barring an additional injury year, is he a senior this year?
mojo….been working some midnight hours eh?
Re: Blaze.
If I’m making the call, he gets two more years (including a medical hardship).
I don’t believe his clock should have started in 2005 because he was at a non-football-playing school.
But I don’t get to make the call.
The people who do believe otherwise.
But I think they’re wrong.
hogan bulldoza rosehill….was tough post player. i imagine he plays football the same way. i envisioned him more so as a linebacker type. but, hey running back in our system works too.
Thanks, ST, although that’s a bummer for Blaze.
Al, yeah, been pretty busy lately. Hope everything’s good with you and yours.
Well, time to get horizontal. Got court in the morning, then hopefully a quick run to Best Buy for the new U2 album before a conference call at 11:00. Hopefully, that finishes in time for me to catch the Wai Tsai Show at 12:00. Then court again at 1:30 followed by a trip to Best Buy if I couldn’t get there in the morning. Night, owls.
mojo…take it easy.
Wow a 5.65 hang time is almost to much to comprehend!!!!!!!
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Happy Girls Day, ladies!
Jason, Happy Pi day.
jmxxxx,
dat stuff about 7 years from now,. very good. 😀
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Happy Girls Day to all the ladies, including DPK!!
See you guys later.
Fine morning to all!
More snow forecast for Wednesday night. Yuck.
Two brighter notes, though.
Happy Girls Day!!!
Merry Pi Day!!!
i said it earlier, hosan rosehill was an intriguing walkon to me. he reminded me of a keone reyes type basketball player. thick and strong, yet he had enough quickness to actually dominate a game. if anything, he should provide a spark on special teams.
Those with grey hair have a build up of hydrogen-peroxide in their bodies.
Those of us with no hair are jealous of those with grey hair.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Oops.
I meant Merry Square Root Day!!!
Jake Ingram. 3 questions.
who is your best friend on the team, coach or player?
who is the guy you most admire in the Warrior program, coach or player?
name 2 guys you’re pulling for to have a awesome year this 09 season.
thank you.
thanks
wafan, Stretch,
good morning good morning.
wafan,
how you figah about dat hydrogen peroxide buildup? i wonderin cuz da grey goes mostly to da head an not da eyebrows, underarms and da jewel bush? 😀
ST,
Thanks for the great Info. Pretty inspiring what JD and Mack is doing there in Japan. Any chance in coming to China? Football is still a developing sport here but who knows what you can find with 1.3 billion people around. I would look in Inner Mongolia…guys there are the tallest in the world and they play a crazy tackling games with live animals.
i don’t get it about our 3 guyz going arizona.
i’ll bet all 3 or 2 or 1 have $/timing issue about taking the SAT every month now till June to boost their scores. i hope they all come UH
I kind of wish there was a written format of these video guests. Internet speed is too slow for me to check it out. Are there written archives of these discussions?
With all the players UH has in the stables, it feels like the 11-3 campaign with Colt and company. A lot of unknowns but solid potential play makers on offense and defense. Hopefully, UH can air it out a bit more like we’re accustomed too.
Hiya G in China
it’ll be nice watching each of our Warriors living out their dreams this season. wishing them all the best life has to offer, and above all, wishing them love. 😉
Happy Girls Day guyz. 😀
couldn’t help myself, watching Dolly and Bette on youtube. 😆
have a great day Tsaikos. play nice.
woooshhhhhhhhhhh>>>>>>>>>>>>
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
Question for Jake Ingram….”If given the opportunity to play anywhere on the Warrior Football Team, which position would you have liked to play”?
Happy Girls Day to all the Tsaikettes!
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Happy Square Root / Girls Day!
Great Morning All!
Happy Girls’ Day to all the Tsaikettes 😀
Hope the Squares are all able to get Rooted today 😆
heheheh
Have a great day erryboddy! HiHo….
Oh try wait….
Sounds like an interesting trip for JD and Mack. Hoping it leads to some fruitful ventures down the road.
“Bulldoza” is a great nic for a FB.
Glad Kainoa Carlson left PLU (esp. since #2 son is playing DE now); the guy was a load when he was a Pun.
Maybe that’s a roundabout way for more buffanblu to get to UH. Hmmm…who else could come back in 2-3 years?
OK, now HiHo fo’ real!
Good morning Tsaikos! Happy Girls / Square Root Day!
Methinking I go get some mochi dis am…
Anybody going to vb game on Friday? Hubby’s on TDY, kid going to a party, so….
Target supposed to open tomorrow. Da Kapolei one supposed to be da biggest one in the US. Traffic jams to rival last week? I think I’ll stay away from Tar-jay for a while. 🙄
Oh yeah. 82 yards? 5.6+ secs hang time? Yeeeeesssss!… *fist pump* 😀
It sounds like the Japan trip has been productive! Great job by JD and Mac.
Good morning Tsaikos.
Dunnachie sounds like a great pickup for UH…he’ll be a weapon for the Warriors! I would say that I look forward to seeing him play, if it wasn’t for the fact that he’ll come on only after Warrior drives stall.
for whoever can remember something one hour later, Colt will be on 1420 about 815am.
whitey – so what’s the plan for Maui?? everyone needs a tour guide for the darkside.
Great news in the Advertiser today about how Under Armour sales have been doing well…I’ll bet Kazz gave a big boost to their totals! It is nice that sales passed the expectations for UA, which means that they are making more money than they had planned…which also means that UH would have been able to get more money from them if these sales figures had been forecast.
UA compares sales per capita, which probably also means that they pay UH based on the number of people in Hawaii vs. their other team’s markets. Trouble is, Maryland, Texas Tech, Auburn, etc., have a lot more people in their markets. For example, the rights fee UH gets is $125k per year (plus another $315k in marketing) and Maryland gets $3.5 million per year (plus much more marketing money I would guess).
Interesting article about how players seem to get slower 40 times while they are in college.
Good Morning Tsaiko Tsquare Rooters!
Jake on the hot spot today, Yah Hootie!
Too bad he won’t be snapping for the ‘Aussie.’ Jake could have done a number of things while the ball was hanging high:
1 – Take a leisurely stroll down field to properly pulverize the return man.
2 – Stop and grab a spam musubi during that stroll.
3 – Have a meaningful conversation with the officials along the way.
4 – Take time to wave at sjmacro, myki, or Homey up in section F, and blow kisses to BHF near the tunnel.
…but none of the above compares to having an opportunity to *hang* with the men of the elite NFL Sunday Club!
Good Luck Jake!
JAKE- at this point in your bid for the NFL draft, do you have any indications or hunches about your future as a Pro football player?
Ever since G (China) mentioned the fact that we should look to recruiting from inner Mongolia because of the size and toughness of the men of that region…I’m thinking, Hmmm…fo’ real kine Bull Dozers!
Good morning Tsaikos…Gotta run for now…just wanted to say hello…
…also wanted to send a Happy Birthday out to one of the originals….Wreckineyez….although I haven’t seen him around for a while….that guy must be busy….
82 yards!?!?!?
there’s a NFL Japan and NBA Japan?
Great to hear about the possible expansion into the Japanese…and maybe Asian market…that would be huge…nice to see JD and Coach Mack busting butt…..Good Job…
Also nice to hear about our options at RB….awesome….
Okay…I really have to go for now…..
HAUOLI LAHANAU TO WRECK- wherever you are!
Good Morning All!
Good news about the two RBs.
I was gonna do something at 8:15 this morning… but for the life of me, I can’t remember what! Dangit! And it was something I really wanted to do…
😉
btw,
square root day?
jason, you worry me.
although at least you had your “friend” date at that one basketball game.
i get stuck bringing lefty.
Special teams has been needing a kick in the arse for a while now and Dunnachie sounds like he has the foot to boot. 82 yards on the fly is down under and over and back. It obviously will not be the norm, but if he can control his direction and hang time, it will take a lot of preessure off the offense and can jack up the team to know they have a difference maker on special teams.
All I can say is…Awwwwright! Go Warriors!
Q for Jake:
Who was the most rascal team member (or coach) of all your years on the team? Who made everyone laugh the most when it was time to release some tension?
We had a great time with Garret’s family, Momo and Mrs. Momo at cc/brunch on Sunday. Both young girls are as advertised – beautiful, smart and fun to be around. Hey, what can you say when boss and I got a kiss and hugs from Faith unsolicited. Enjoyed talking story but as we all experience at cc, time passes too quickly. Guess the best item was the omelets. Boss said the chef was taking 6 orders at a time and got it right/perfect. Hope the gaming tables are kind to Momo too.
Good Morning All! Hope everyone has a good day.
Garrett,
You took the words right out of my mouth. I was gonna say Kazz is the one pumping up those UA numbers for Hawaii
colt to be on kkea 1420am after this commercial break with bobby curran.
ok, i lied, bobby said during the 8 o’clock hour. right now is some nba analyst.
btw, how’d we get the word, o’clock i don’t know many o’ words except for o’douls. is it irish in origin?
HAPPY GIRLS DAY to all the LADIES of the blog!
Stretch,
whitey is planning to rent a bus for the tour to the “darkside”
🙂
61st!
Happy Girls’ Day
Anyone ever notice how many UA wardrobe changes Kazz makes during the average T-gate?…Eh! Complete with War paint on his face!
Dey you go Kazz…How you Represent my Braddah!
colt is on now.
I hope the proposal to televise UH football games on a delayed basis comes to fruition. In a couple of days I’ll be relocating to Tokyo……I’ll be changing my name to 22Tokyo…
I think I smell a mommy lurking….
Look forward to seeing the video chat.
Nice work Coach Mack and AD Donovan.
Nice stable of running backs.
chawan – o’clock…I remember asking that in kindergarten and the teacher told me according to the clock.
22London or 22Tokyo, no matter. (That’s SteveM’s personnel roster dept.) Long as you keep posting my friend. We haven’t heard from you in awhile. Must have been getting ready for the move, huh?
Will that include a layover in Hawaii before you go to Japan? Time it for the Warrior Bowl so you can T-gate or cc with the crew, and catch a glimpse of the ’09 Warriors. -Cheerio Guv!
Wreck! We need a Birthday cc with you this week Bubba. Call home.
good morning all!
yep good stuff on the Aussie punter, distance and hang time won’t be a problem, just be consistent and what a weapon.
trip by Mack and JD NOT paid by State or UH? interesting….
Kekoa,
When’s the Warrior Bowl? Yep, I’m stopping in Hawaii before heading to Tokyo. I leave London this Thursday and will leave Hawaii for Tokyo on or around the 18th. I may try to go to Lost Wages in between….
re post #20, whatever happened to Keone Reyes? When he was at Kaimuki, he was quoted as saying he wanted to play football for UH. I thought he went to a JC in the Bay Area, and there was a chance he would transfer to UH as a RB.
22Lon/Toy ~ The Warriors play on Maui on the 11th of April. The Warrior Spring Bowl isn’t until April 25th. We will have a Tsaiko T-gate prior to both. Stick that on your planning calender.
Just drop an open date on the blog for a cc, and we can plan on some local grinds TBA. (Las Vegas…do you copy?…come in prrease).
Mrs A-House ~ Get your autograph book ready, this one will be a keeper!
ooh, a cc with 22London!!!
Kekoa – The game is kinda early on the 25th. Does that mean the t-gate will start at 7:00 a.m.?
I bet jojo won’t be at the cc.
whoa, going out on a limb….
Stretch – It’s just a hunch.
Saw your topic on the pink side…so thoughtful. awwwwwwww 😆
Jake,
What’s the update on if and when your younger brother Lucas will be joining the Warriors as your replacement as long snapper?
Interesting that Lucas was even listed among the newcomers in the 2008 Warrior Football Media Guide.
Mahalo!
I can just see the “H” logo hitting the asian market…as knock-offs.
Jake,
How is your weight-gaining program going? How much weight do you think you can gain between the combine and UH’s Pro Day? Are you working with a nutritionist or following some type of program for your weight gain?
Is your agent covering the costs of your training and weight program until the NFL draft?
Homey ~ We were thinking Breakfast T-gate would be good. JJ usually represents the Portuguese Sausage makers of Makawao. Pancakes were discussed here of course…and what about Sweet bread French toast?
Garret – The players on the preliminary watch list are from last season All-America team and conference all-stars…so I heard.
Kekoa – Sounds good but all I need is a couple of hamburger patties, rice, egg-over-easy, gravy, and tobasco sauce!
Jake – Have you ever tried long distance snapping? How far can you long-snap a football?
speaking of Dunnachie – was talking to a “loyal UH fan”, except when we play BYU, of different scenarios.
can he “punt” the ball instead of “kicking off”? if so, will it be a free ball after going 10 yards? or just kick the hell out of the ball for height and let UH special teams go for the recovery.
if yes, with the hang time, kick-off receiver will have to “fair-catch” the ball each time or special teams can recover the free ball before the receiver touches the ball inside the 10 yard line.
can Warrior special teams “man-handle” the kick-off receiver while going for the free ball and NOT be penalized?
will UH coaches research this and take advantage of this new “weapon”? bet other teams will go “bananas” trying to determine what the heck is going to happen on kick-off!!!!!!!!!!!!
let’s start a new contest – how far will Dunnachie punt the ball at Provo when they play BYU in 2011?
A-House – That’s why it’s called a kickoff. No can punt on a kickoff. However, if it’s a free kick then you can either punt or placekick or I think dropkick.
Best wishes to Jake in his NFL career–he has been a solid example of practice perfect makes perfect…an incredible long-snapper.
His daily drills was classic stuff I doubt I will see repeated (Jake should have it on DVD)–unless…his brother was watching and taking notes.
homey,
A player can be on the watch list even if he’s never played a down for his team! All it takes is a nomination from a school’s Sports Information Director…All-America or conference honors are *not* required. The below information is straight from the award’s website.
Happy Birthday Betty!
Happy Birthday Wreck!
I hate that I have to be off-blog again during the show, but I look forward to watching the WB Show after my kids go to sleep tonight.
Happy Birthday WreckinEyez!
Happy Birthday Betty!
Great move by JD and MAC on this Japan venture.
The marketing makes sense.
Japanese tourism is a proven quantity even through this economic downturn and the Honolulu Marathon has emerged as the biggest moneymaker in Hawaii sports.
The HM’s field is comprised by a majority of Japanese nationals.
Given our proximity and the millions of Japanese tourists that vacation in Hawaii annually–this marketing move not only makes CENTS-but is long overdue.
Kudos to JD and MAC for taking the initiative!
Garret – an email from a Lombardi representative:
“Thanks for your interest in the Rotary Lombardi Award. The candidates earned a place on the preliminary watch list by earning All-American honors or by being named to their respective all-conference first team as selected by the conference’s head coaches.”
Happy Birthday to Betty!!
Good to hear the Under Armour UH logo merchandise is selling well.
HAPPY TO MRS. BG BETTY AND WRECK!!!
Re: Under Armour
Too bad they don’t tailor their product to the geographic area they are selling it.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WRECK AND BETTY
I wonder who is older?
I wonder who sings Korean Karaoke better?
Bringing in Rosehill and Carlson for a spring audition is a great move by MAC and I suspect Ron Lee.
My feelings are very tentative about our present RB stock given D1A experience and other factors, despite a bonafide 2009 recruiting effort by staff, notably Chizz and Green from the JUCO ranks.
On a positive note, it illustrates that MAC n staff are keeping it going 24/7 to restock the cupboards at this position–and SPR is an excellent opportunity for peacocks to strut their feathers and to clinch a limb on the warrior tree.
Garret – I was also talking about the preliminary watch list since ST mentioned it in the last blog topic.
I wonder who can make better Adobo and Pork Guisantes?
Happy Birthday to Betty!
Happy Birthday to Wreck!
homey is right, although he mixed up some terminology. A kickoff is a free kick, but kickoffs in particular are restricted to place kicks and drop kicks — no punts. Only when it is a kickoff after a safety may the ball be punted.
Also, on free kicks, you have to give the returner the opportunity to catch the ball. You can’t just take him out and recover it yourself.
ST,
Any update on Jack Sula’s prospects of joining the Warriors?
Mahalo!
Oh, and Happy Birthday to Betty and WreckinEyez!
This Aussie punter, Alex Dunnachie, sounds like a stud that can boom it skyward with incredible hangtime and distance.
Punting it high presumes the ball leaves his foot in a high trajectory making it tougher to block.
If he can can punt under the gun in the requisite time from snap to boot–we have something exceptional in the making.
If MAC n staff can develope a long-snapper with Ingram type skills n speed we could see an incredible duo never seen in Manoa. Yikes!
Stretch,
Loose fit sir, loose fit.
Thank you Jason. Now about soccer…
Midori7,
Can you send a text, lost your number……….
warriorfanny – There is a video of him punting in the other blog topic. He did some one step punting.
Dunnachies numbers are those of a top notch professional soccer goalie, almost unreal, if that’s really true. With those numbers, regardless from where we punt, the return guy will be surrounded by Warriors everytime he fair catches the ball, if it’s not in the endzone anyways.
Should I reserve the “back room” at Tasty Crust for a Tsai-ko breakfast cc for the scrimmage?
Very nice start to their Japan trip for JD and BigMack. Tremendous possibilities have opened up for UH.
I only hope that we’re not taking the foot off the gas petal and keep persuing this venture all the way through.
Happy 21st Betty!
Happy ### Wreck!
Homey ~ his one step punt allows our coverage ample time to tail-gate while waiting for the ball to come down!
Hey Kekoa,
Just catching up after a couple of busy weeks (lots of vips in town) and saw your message yesterday.
Need to chat with you off-blog to see how I can help on the tailgaters and the Kalaeloa thing.
You going to be around tonight?
duffer – I will be at Tasty’s for breakfast. What time?? 7 or 8?? I need to make my flights to get in that morning.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY !!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WRECKINEYEZ !!!
homey:
how come can punt on a “kick-off” after a safety?
A-House – as Jason noted, a kickoff is restricted to place kicks and dropkicks, not punts.
happy birthday betty!
happy birthday wreck! btw, do i know you?
how is going everyone? good day tasi-ko’s 8) trying to catch up on da reading from sat. past couple of day been under the weather and out of it. this cold weather, kids coughing in school and not getting enough rest finally nab me. but will rally

SailorBlue: I saw your contribution, thank you!
koakane: Looks like you’re feeling a little bit better today.
we better warn the bars that they should stock up on Bud Light w/ Koakane and JJ coming.
Happy Birfday to Mrs BG and Wreck!!!
that’s too bad – now that UH seems to have secured the services of a very talented punter, but rules can be changed!
however, punt returners will have to “ad-lib” before catching the ball because Dunnachie can “spiral” or “back-spin” or “end-over-end” the ball making it very difficult to catch – OH HAPPY DAYS, OH HAPPY DAYS (from the movie Sister Act).
Stretch,
Anytime, let me know. The dark side is NOT open for breakfast! 🙂
ahouse…
a kickoff is after a touchdown or field goal.
a free kick is only after a safety.
get it?
got it?
gooood.
duffer….it is open. just gotta go thru the back door.
HAPPY BDAY TO BETTY
HAPPY BDAY TO WRECKIN EYEZ

so why couldn’t jake tell us about brother lucas?
Kapakahi:
Sula still has not qualified, as I understand it.
Lucas is taking a class at West Oahu. He should be eligible in time for training camp.

Re: Cabana SITREP
a) Problem temporarily solved for Cabana A use for 25 Apr.
b) Season rental at issue. Why the sudden changes to ground rules.
c) Need an internal review of the reservation system.
d) Justification for the price hike, for aging facilities.
BG working with Senior Chief on these issues. Need your input for the future, so the Morale Support Directorate is made aware of the situation.
Kalaeloa Football field was not needed for Doris Sullivan’s football camp. The Navy has scored major points with the community for allowing the use of the football and baseball fields, plus the bowling alley.
However, if the Navy recruiting office was smart and wants to recruit athletes like the young QB from Kapolei that led the Academy to victory…they should budget some money to purchase some Recruiting *Tent* space from Doris. Her events draw the top college coaches to the islands, and showcase the local talent.
No, kickoffs are defined as free kicks (that is, place kick, drop kick, or punt), but with the added rule that you cannot punt a kickoff. Kickoffs start a half or follow a TD or FG.
The kick after safety is also a free kick, but the punt restriction is not in place, because it is a kick after safety, not a kickoff.
When you Maui, you should also stop at Fran’s and check out their pancakes, really.
Start with the kalua pig fried rice loco moco and do one side order banana mac nut pancakes. Go hungry.
so jason,
what did you do on your “Square Root Day” holiday????
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_root_day
too much math on the brain….
kalua pig fried rice loco moco??? dang, i just had a $5 footlong sub.
Sailor Blue ~ Forgot to tell you that I’ll be attending the Pre-Grand Opening of the Target Store in Kapolei tonite. Senator Gabbard was kind enough to put me on the VIP list (Very Important Pocho). I will be out between 5 PM and 9PM.
Call me tomorrow when you have time. I know I won’t be able to go in or out of Kapolei due to the “End of The World Traffic” due to the Grand Opening to the Public for Target.
I’m interested in knowing what kind of ticket help you would need from Jim Donovan for the Navy personnel traveling in for the UH-Navy game in November. Also what plans for future Navy games besides football.
Jason – Huh? Did you just write that kickoff = free kick = place kick or drop kick or punt. But cannot punt on kickoff? Isn’t a punt a kickoff according to what you just wrote? Posting on the pink site makes me confused.
Happy Birthday to Betty and our long lost brother Wreck hope all is well.
homey/d1…
We should have a cook-off between Wreck and Betty on the aforementioned foods…we can have a tasting at the Cabanas…at the appropriate time…
Stretch/KK…I may be able to make it to Maui…it all depends on my work but I won’t know until last minute…..
homey,
I think you must be correct on the preliminary watch list. Maybe the rules have changed this year (the website information is for last year’s Lombardi watch list) or maybe there is a big difference between the preliminary watch list and the regular watch list…
Happy Birthday Wreck n Betty!
Wreck n Betty… Hmmmmm… Sounds like a great name for a bar.
Basketball is one thing. Football is another. There’s a big difference between finesse and physical contact. So I have to withold any judgment about the 2 running backs that you mentioned. I’ve never heard of these guys or haven’t seen them on film. But you never know.
They might turn out to be okay. College football news has predicted that UH will be 4th or 5th in the WAC this year, behind Boise St., Fresno St., Nevada, and Louisiana Tech. I wouldn’t get our hopes up too high. I’m not impressed w/ our offensive line and our Quarterback situation. I think Alexander holds on to the ball too long. Just look at the sacks last year. We led the nation in that category. And the turnovers. You know the story. “You are what we think they are!!!!
Garret – yep there looks like there is a difference but it’s all good for the publicity the players and schools receive.
BTW, Jason, I know what you mean…it’s just that some mom’s are really really getting to me.
(J)J – We make pretend there’s a cook-off and tell them to bring at least 5 specialty dishes from the country(ies) they want to represent. That way we’ll have at least 10 different food items to grind!
Thanks for the wishes everyone. You guys are the first ones to wish me “Happy Birthday”… I got a bunch of messages from friends and t was only “Happy Girl’s Day”.
Happy Birthday to Betty… If we ever have a cook off, I would be eating on her side of the kitchen.
Thanks again everyone.
WRECK! No worries, I’ll be grinding the adobo and guisantes.
Hi Wreak: Happy Girl’s Day – and Happy Birthday! 🙂
Betty: many happy returns!
Anyone think Betty will reply on the blog or will BG reply for her.
Good afternoon ALL!!!
Hoooah! I take a break to catch up quick to the WB and I see all the posts wishing Betty and Bruddah Wreck happy birthday!!! Betty will be thrilled when I show her the blog after work. It’s our daughter’s (Hina) birthday too.
I tried to post a link to her birthday card underlying my name. Check if I did it right…first time for everything.
Amidst the good times, life has it’s ironies…today is also the services for Spc Walter. I find it hard to attend…but, I can’t stay away. Prayers for her family.
BG – I could see your card. Underneath that exterior of yours is a romantic guy.
Good afternoon to all!!
Happy girls day !
Happy birthday to Betty and to Wreck!! We haven’t seen both of you for quite a while. Hope you have a wonderful day.
BG ~ Very well spoken my friend. Please pass on my Birthday wishes to Hina as well.
myki – Take a look at the top. You can see them there. ☝:
☝: = ☝
Happy Birthday to Hina too. AND Happy Girl’s Day! 🙂
WRECK!…come out, come out wherever you are! How can us guys bestow a Happy Birthday on your A$$ when you hide lidat! Sheesh!
Aunty Tita…the lead slippah please!
I think Wreck is napping right now.
I just took a look at the admission requirements for UH Manoa and was just thinking no ways I would qualify if today’s standards were used in the early 1900’s.
Hey Kekoa,
I forgot to mention that the animals that I saw on some videos looked like wild horses. hmmm….
G (China) Wild Horses!?…Yikes, they wrassle wild horses to the ground! So that means they gotta be fast enough to run ’em down first.
Whoa Pony Horse!
Good afternoon Tsaikos & Tsaikettes, Lurkers & Lurkettes!
Happy Girl’s Day Tsaikettes & Lurkettes!
Tsaimeister- Nice pics today and yesterday!
Happy safe & successful travels Coach Mack & JD!
See some birthdays:
– Happy Birthday to WreckinEyez!
– Happy Birthday to Betty!
– Happy Birthday to Betty & BG’s Hina!
…may you have many many glorious more!
From Sunday-
– Hi LIZ !
– Hi KEKOA ! Okay. We’ll probably watch the basketball game too.
To Jason-
Shhhuuuurrre, I’ll sponsor you!
To Mei Ling-
Hope your massage went well!?!
Brrrr…it’s been so-o-o cold & rainy! Take care, keep warm, keep dry, & don’t forget to wear your rain boots everyone! lol
🙂
Homes ~ Check the 40 times on wild horses.
I find it supernatural-like that Wreck posts when people talk about him. He must have that 6th sense like Cole Sear.
Kekoa – I don’t have a horse stopwatch.
Hi UHfan808…I sent you an email…my car reservation, to both of your email addresses. 😀
Awwww…Wreck left already? I wanted to get an autograph… 🙁
Come on Homey…Pony up for one!
Okay, Kekoa, I’ll go check ebay or craigslist.
googoo gaagaa, otot, oopsie.
C-7? ~ Are you in trouble? Can you tell us where you’re at? Should we send help? Take the banana out and try again.
Kekoa – Sounds like you are talking to Lassie.
ST ~ The Jake interview went ok for content. May I suggest that you and the Princess try to maintain a certain sound level. The audio comes across real LOUD at times, and then soft when you both kinda mumble under your breath.
Close your eyes and listen to just the audio portion of the interview. A slight adjustment will make it sound mo bettah! *10Q*
Speaking of Lassie, it’s almost that time of day!
Good luck to Jake at Pro day.
Good luck to those that need to get their SAT scores or required courses in order.
Have fun tonight Betty and Wreck…I don’t mean with each other.
Mommie, stop talking funny-kine on dis blog
Whoa…Wreck appeared and I missed it…
Hi UHFan808….
Exactly! It worked for Ronnie Howard. Lassie always found out what the problem was by letting the humans ask those basic questions. Watching reruns in Europe was fun when her commands were translated into German or French.
❗ UH-UNLV Game Tickets for Tsai-kos
Rich2176 has been busy but will be turning his attention to negotiating and purchasing a block of game tickets soon, as he did in 2007. Of course, he needs to know how many.
He will be providing Tsai-kos with tickets at cost, so a minimum count is needed. So whether you request via the survey or email him directly, please do so soon.
When he is ready, I will turn over the collected survey requests to Rich2176. At that point, confirmation emails, payment, and arrangements are strictly between you and Rich2176.
The survey is at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=_2b0TEhRn0xTX82JQRdJ2gyQ_3d_3d
The survey also collects requests for las vegas’ restaurant tailgate and optional buses. Also Friday night Cattle Call interest and hotel location info–so you can see who else might be staying at your hotel. 🙂
September 18 Programming Note: It is certain there will be a Tsai-ko gathering on Friday, Sept. 18 from around 6:00 PM. las vegas is still working on where, depending on estimated count. We’ll gather the numbers later since Rich2176’s ticket numbers are more critical at this moment.
The Friday night gathering is to allow Tsai-kos from Hawaii and the mainland (international too) to finally meet. Part of the program will be small group introductions.
It is apparent that not all Tsai-kos would tailgate together on Saturday. We have UH Alumni Association tailgate, SportsHawaii tailgate, Boyd tailgate, our tailgate, hotel and travel agency tailgates, etc.. SO, the Friday night gathering is planned for everyone who makes it to Vegas in time….
Don’t forget. Seven of us each has to watch a kid.
Whoa, mommy C is back!!
Wait. Mommy C has been impersonated. And she’s pissed.
Homey (#163) Hey! No make li dat!!! Dey goin make me turn my gold sergeant major card back and and take away my reserved parking space! I tell everybody that I save $5 making my own BD cards…and I’m sticking to my story…
Hauoli Lahanau Betty and Hina!
Whoosh!
Happy Birthday Betty….
ST, we’re each watching a kid?? When??? I already have enough trouble watching homey and KK….and sometimes Stretch….LMAO
Actually, as we run through this “full of events” calendar, the person who deserves the gold card and permanently reserved parking space is our own SteveM (and Peaches). No one does more for Tsaiko fun-times. He is the percolator who combines all the ingredients and churns out an incredible Tsaiko event. Here’s to you, Steve (lifts my stein)!
Oh and the Tsaikettes get to bring whips to make sure the babysitters behave! 😯 😆
I don’t have the energy to babysit, so don’t look at me. 🙂
if you bring the chains also, DPK and JJ will definately volunteer
ST,
I was wondering if you have the spring practice schedule yet?
Stretch..nah, I don’t like chains….leather chaps…maybe….LMAO
Aloha Tsaikos
hope everythings good, Whats going on with this whips thing…..
I hope this weather doesn’t screw up the upcoming softball and baseball games.
I still have yet to catch a Rainbow Wahine Softball game in person and I was planning on doing so starting tomorrow.
Kazz:
Make sure you wait until it’s nice and windy.
Then go get the chili.
Richie:
I’ll post a sked in the next day or two.
But they start the last Monday in March.
Can see this mentioned on the blog earlier today:
God be with them at this point.
I can’t imagine how their families, friends, and teammates must feel like having a 3rd party pretty much tell you they will not be found.
Happy Birthday Betty and Wreck!
Happy birthday to Betty and Wreck!!!
Dang. Has to be the Damien guys. Simultaneous. Similar.
Is it the same chili as they have at Les Murakami? During the UC Irvine series I had the chili frank plate and loaded it with onions and jalapenos.
A few times throughout the game I felt as if my stomach was “4th and goal” if you know what I mean… 🙁
ST,
I assume practices are still open to the public unless otherwise noted?
Mmm. I was eating my garlic fries with onions. That was yummy. 😀
Speaking of garlic, I wonder if my potatoes in the oven are done yet.
Nope. 🙁
kden getting out of the sick bed to share this girls/momies birthday something to ponder on;
found out Bg plays on the same aja softball team on sunday with one of my friends (miles). seems he plays in the outfield. story goes while chasing down a ball bg fell down and was small kind bust up. now rumor goes Betty runs onto the field to wipe and administer aid to him. from den on all the husband have been telling their wives to take note. sunday husband on team loves betty but wives have been tell her to not do dat any more.
happy birthday again betty.
any comments mommies or homey?
Jason,
I enjoy a baked potato, but they take so long to cook that sometimes I’ll just toss one in the oven and by the time it’s done… who knows…
I take some red-skinned potatoes, slice them up, and toss them with garlic and olive oil. Toss it in the oven at 400, they get soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Mmm.
Ok I screwed up that Mitch Hedberg joke.
It’s supposed to go like this:
“I love baked potatoes but sometimes they take so long to cook that I’ll just throw one in the oven even when I am not hungry and by the time its done… who knows…
Mitch Hedberg was the man!
More Hedberg-isms:
“I went to the store to buy a candle holder but they didn’t have one so I bought a cake.”
“An escalator can’t break down. They only become part time stairs. They should put up a sign that says “Escalator are stairs for now. Sorry for the convienence.”
“I used to do drugs. I still do. But I used to also”
“Im sick of following my dreams, so ask them where they’re going and hook up with them later.”
“I like Kit Kat Bars. Except when I am with four or more people.”
“I like rice. Rice is good when you are hungry and you want to eat 2,000 of something.”
82 yds. Holy crappa moly. I can’t see that far. And 5.65 hangtime. Whoa. I can remember bringing a stop watch to a game just to time Jim Asmus. I think the wonder from down under may be better.
Regarding punters and punting, the proof of a good punter is in the game, when the opponents are coming at you. Not so much during warmups or tryouts.
wow Wreck was born on a day after my birthday. Happy girls day.
More Hedberg-isms:
“I walked passed a drycleaner’s place at 2am and there was a sign that said ‘Sorry We’re Closed’. That’s too much. You are a dry cleaner and it’s 2am. I do not expect you to be open. There is no need to apologize.”
“I like to hold the microphone cord like this (proceeds to pinch the cord) and then let go. That way you hear ten jokes all at once.”
“I mumble when I talk and sometimes it gets me into trouble. I mumble all the time. I was hiking with some friends, I said something and my buddy said, ‘What?’. So I repeated myself and he said ‘What?’ again. Next thing you know I am yelling ‘THAT TREE IS FAR AWAY!'”
“My first job interview was weird. It had a bunch of written questions with only a yes or no answer. The first question was ‘Have you every tried sugar or… PCP?’. I never got the job.”
Oh, that was supposed to be a joke. Haha. 😀
Good evening Tsai-kos!!
Happy birthday to Wreck and Betty!!
So, there are 3 UH teams playing on Friday – softball @ 5, baseball at 6:30 and vb at 7. So, who’s going to which game?
d1:
Is Damien MHS changing its name to St Damien MHS?
anybody: do MMA fighters wear jock strap during a fight?
JD & Coach Mack: how many media types will accompany the Japanese players to Spring Ball? how many family & friends? do you need interpreters? need any international lawyers to assist with the legal paperwork for the H logo?
A-House – I think they are required to wear a cup when they fight
Happy Birthday, Betty & Wreckneyez!!! Many more celebrations to you!
“Bulldoza”, what a great name for a football player.
Koakane (#216)
Wat?!! Don’t all wives run out on the field when their hubby gets dinged? And that wasn’t the best one. I don’t think Myles was there when I got beaned real good and Betty was going to punch out the pitcher who was probably at least a head taller than her…bwaaahahaha
labrat….belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! (((singing “16 tons”)))
Frank25
On a somber note… I attended Spc Walter’s service today and wanted to let you know that the skies, too, dropped their tears upon Borthwick. It was wall to wall people on a workday mid-afternoon. The NG soldiers marched in, one file at a time, to render honors to their fallen comrade. The TAG, deputy TAG, CofS…everyone was there, including a good part of Kalihi. She was a genuine role model for her peers in her short life, and will continue to do so in their memories. She did a lot in the time that she had. She was a warrior in the brotherhood and sisterhood of warrior-soldiers. I have no higher praise. I didn’t know her personally. But, the faces there told her story.
I hear the sound of taps tonight.
Kazz:
Yep, all practices are open.
I think everything will be open this year.
Well, until the week before the Boise State game.
Thank you to everyone for remembering my birthday. Mahalo to my Tsaiko family!!! Love you all…
Betty
A-House…the school has been called Damien Memorial School for a few years now since they’ve added both 7th and 8th grades…word is that there is continued discussions as to whether they should change the name to St. Damien School once he achieves sainthood in October. Although that was talked about when I was there…the thinking now is to just leave the name as is….Damien Memorial School.
Your welcome Betty….
Did you hear we are having a cooking contest between you, Wreckineyez, and Heinekein Healers wife….homey will be announcing the dishes soon…
It will be held at the Cabanas at a date and time to be determined….

BG say he geev me special massage now for my birthday…Good Nite! See everyone soon…
I feel really bad for Samson, as Miami’s new system is not suited to his strengths.
(throws a shaka to ST)
dey u go.
Jason said yesterday that Samson was a good player, but not a good fit in Miami’s system…and he was correct of course. Samson’s biggest strengths are his mobility and athleticism…but Parcells wants offensive linemen who are bigger than Samson and *not* mobile.
Garret and Co
Showed Hina her birthday messages and she was so stoked! Said it was “Very cool”.
Hi Betty! Welcome to the blog! I hope to get to talk story with you someday at an event.
Today’s exchange rate shows the Australia dollar = 0.643 US$ dollars. Any chance that the Aussie “yard” is 64% of a US “yard”? And same for the Aussie “second”? 😯 🙄 😀
That would knock Alex Dunnachie’s best recorded punt of 82 (Aussie) yards & 5.65 (Aussie) seconds back into the good, but-“human” category for typical punters! 😯 😆 🙄
I’m glad that Under Armour is sponsoring this trip to send some prominent college football coaches to visit with the troops in the Middle East.
Texas really is pushing recruiting to be earlier and earlier…this directly affects all college football programs, even UH.
OK. Got a week’s worth of posts out today. Time to take care of the birthday girl. As they say, “It only happens once a year…but, tonight’s the night!”. Bwaahahaha
wilco, out…
Last weekend Texas had their second Junior Day. This weekend they will have a huge coaching clinic.
Texas offers their in-state players before any of the out-of-state schools can evaluate them, which gives them a HUGE advantage. UH should be able to evaluate the local players in Hawaii and give offers early, getting to the recruits before the mainland schools.
ST – Very good Wai&Tsai show today! Jake Ingram was an excellent guest and very well spoken. It’s no surprise that he did well on the Wonderlic Test! Best of luck to Jake playing at the next level, and beyond! 😀
BTW – you looked nice in your maroon polo shirt. Of course, your co-host, the Princess always looks terrific and really makes he show work! 😀 😯 😆
Early commits save recruiting budget money AND helps recruits focus on school and graduate early instead of having to take trips and spend so much time for the recruiting process. I remember that Billy Ray was an early commit to UH last season and he graduated early so that he could enroll at UH in January and go through Spring Practice. One other nice thing about players that enroll in school early…you don’t have to worry about schools trying to poach those recruits!

Miami has locked up the people they think that will be the starters on the OL, with their contracts lasting for at least the next 4 years…unfortunately, Samson doesn’t have that type of long-term deal.
I hope that Miami would trade Samson if they decide they just want him for depth…he can be very useful in another offense.
One more article out of Miami…
brew808,
I always like reading your posts…you were mostly off-blog for awhile. My girls still remember “Uncle Brew” and I hope they get to run into you again sometime!
I’m got to go now–someone just e-mailed me about wanting my company to subcontract on something. People never seem to contact me during business hours!
Back from Target Pre-Opening. Save your dollars for Costco or Wally World. Target is a bit higher in price. Very nicely laid out store inside and out, with other independent stores within the mini-mall type complex.
Avoid the area for traffic reasons all day tomorrow.
Good nite all.
Kekoa,
Here in San Diego we got to Target and Costco all the time…we buy bulk things at Costco but some things are cheapest at Target with reliable quality (baby items, some household supplies, electronics, clothing on sale, etc.). It all depends, especially on what goes on sale that particular Sunday.
I’m happy to be with this program called e-rewards that e-mails me surveys to fill out on a variety of subjects. They really target me with surveys on technical issues, which is fine with me. Between December and February I earned enough points to redeem *3* Target gift cards, each worth $50! I gave them to Lori and she loves going to Target even more than normal now.
E-mails flew back and forth tonight between two other companies and me…I guess I’ll be off blog tomorrow trying to get things set up. Good night!

HA reports that Pepperdine will drop 2 sports, men track and women swim and diving teams…JD has a tough job cutting the red ink without cutting any sports program….maybe he could push the time line on completing the Ching complex and rent out the stadium for HS football and track to the ILH and OIA. rent should be cheaper than Aloha stadium, closer to the schools, and the fans would be closer in a smaller stadium….be like aloha stadium, keep the revenue for parking and concessions….
Garret’s Miami posts on Samson Satele makes me wonder, if samson is too small as an nfl center, what can Estes bring to the table as an nfl draft choice. Isn’t he smaller than Samson?
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

Betty 😀

ST
could you ask Coach this question. if you wanna recruit and get a burner from Japan who can’t speak fluent English, how are we gonna get him to get and keep good enough grades and still have time to make practice at the same time?
whoever predicted we gonna finish 4th in da WAC this year ain’t been paying attention.
Greg Alexander,
good morning Warrior! keep studying film. keep your grades up.
keep studying film. know that you got supporters in Warrior Nation that are wishing you the very best this coming season, and in life.
Happy Birthday to 6’5” Wideout Joe “Frozone” Avery
Good morning everyone!
It would have been easier and not against the law if they guy had just licked the cat.
Time to head out!!!
You’re right Ralph, Estes would probably be on the smallish side for an NFL center. However, he is a pretty sound technician and for the most part plays with good leverage and balance. He would probably need to get a little bigger and stronger in order to compete at that level, but it wouldn’t be impossible for him to make someone’s team. He is about the same size as Dominic Raiola and Olin Kreutz, but of course both of those guys show exceptional strength in the weight room. The key for Estes is to go to the right team, the way Raiola is with the Lions, and Kreutz with the Bears.
Although Samson could stay and fight it out with the Dolphins, it might be more beneficial for him to play for a team that is looking for someone who possesses the type of skill sets that he can bring to the table. There are teams in the league who favor lighter, more athletic linemen. Guys who can run, pull, trap, and block on the perimeter on screens. Of course Samson could also just gain 10 to 15 pounds. Lock himself in the weightroom and change to an old fashioned powerlifting program, doing heavy squats, deadlift, bench and powercleans. Lift, eat, take protein shakes, and drink beer. Get on the crowther and the sled and learn how to shoot the hip.
Great Morning All!
Great points there Pride.
With respect to Estes’ upcoming season, I wonder how he “Shaw-ll” be used?
I wonder what homey has planned for his “man”??
Happy Birthday Joe Avery!
Have a great day erryboddy 🙂
HiHo….
Good Morning Tsaikoville! Hope everyone has a good day!
Pride, I hope Samson does not “bulk up”. He sure reminds me of a tremendous local boy who did some damage on the o-line as center for a “little known” q-back…ummmm, Joe Montana. I believe they won some big games. Samson looks more like that local guy, mobile, smart, fearless and will quietly take care of the q-back (we saw this with Colt).
If he goes to another team with that kind of set up, Samson could replicate what Jesse did, win big games, be a Pro Bowler and win some of those huge rings.
I agree Buffoman.
Howzit djmitcho! What’s the weather report from the PNW? Mauka snowshowers?
Good Morning Tsaiko Tshoppers! Get those shopping carts revved up for the Grand Opening of the Kapolei Target store…but first you’ll need to get in and out of the “End of The World Traffic!” Heheheh!
Strange circumstance. On the one hand, we have a UH Wahine coach we can’t get rid of soon enough, and a Men’s coach we desperately need to extend a contract on.
As Ferd points out, we need to prove we have stability in our Men’s program by extending coach Nash’s contract now. This should help give him much needed confidence in his recruitment effort.
I’m thinking Jim Donovan will once again prove to be the man with the plan and get both of our basketball programs back on solid ground.
Kekoa: How you doing Hawaiian…Tsaikos
Garret:
Your posts regarding U of Texas “junior days” and early commits are great and many of us agree that Coach mack join in this venture in Hawaii.
Unfortunately, for UH and unlike UT, early commits here become targets for BCS schools. While many may keep their “word” some of the more highly regarded recruits may go to where the glamour is more bright. They will find that the HIGHER the BCS school is ranked, the more quality competition from 4 & 5-star players for the same positio – ie, bigger, stronger, faster. My biggest disappointment was Wade committing to ………… at the very last minute. Oh well, at least Ccoach Mack left the door open for a return.
Frank25 ~ Whoa my Tsaiko Sandstorm Supah Troopah! You must be winding down from a busy day and getting ready to ‘exlax’ right about now.

james – hang in there, the citizens of Hawaii appreciate it…..i think?
Thanks g…I don’t know if doing what we have to will be appreciated…we’re getting heat from all sides about the “money”….LOL
good luck samson if you not happy with the dolphins ask to be trade to the pittsburgh steelers we need you. to help the steelers make a run for the seven super bowl ring .
Pride what’s a crowther?
Frank have a happy day! it’s okay, rob drinks enough cold ones for both of you, just drink water and stay safe….
Ralph,
Samson is *not* too small to play center in the NFL! His mobility was why he started as a rookie and he was not too small for that system. Other teams have done very well with smaller, mobile, offensive lines. The trouble is, the management at Miami changed and Parcells’ system is geared for power running with bigger OL where mobility is not valued.
Samson has trade value around the NFL and if the right team needs a center (and doesn’t get a center high in the draft), then they will probably approach Miami to try to trade for Samson. If Miami would trade Samson for a low pick I bet they could trade him within a day…but they have to look out for themselves and hold out for the draft pick they want (see: last year and their plan for Jason Taylor).
Trading Samson might have been the plan all along for Miami’s management, as new management often wants to get “their players” and turns the roster over quickly. Miami cut a lot of players who were Samson’s teammates his rookie season, but the players that have value they trade instead of cut.
One indication of Miami’s plan is how they signed a former high draft pick to be their new starter at C *and* they signed another former high draft pick to provide depth at C/G. If they were going to have Samson be depth at C/G, they didn’t need to sign *two* free agents within a week that can play both positions. Miami’s head coach was the OL coach under Parcells at Dallas and they are getting their type of OL on their team…that doesn’t mean that the other players cannot play well elsewhere in the NFL.
Howzit Kekoa,
I don’t know what wafan is getting, but it’s 40 and sunny in Spokane right now.
@Ralpie boy, you didn’t play the game. crowther is a person of equipment.
@Garret-san, you played the game? what is your measurables? 40 time, 225 reps, vertical, position, sparq numbers.
On Wednesday morning, they will meet for two hours with officials from Tokai University. In the afternoon, they will meet with business leaders to discuss a joint Hawai‘i/Japan soccer project.
McMackin and Donovan then depart from Japan.
