Doris Sullivan: Kalua Noa to join UH in ’09

 From Doris Sullivan:

UH has offered Kalua Noa a greyshirt/full scholarship offer for Jan 2009.
Kalua has been speaking to UH for a while but with no scholie he had decided
to go the JC route. When Portland State came into the picture just yesterday
coaches discussed it and didnt want to lose him, and the offer to Kalua came
this afternoon. His response was “yes, yes, I want it, yes, Ill take it”
Parents are very excited as well.

My main man, Stephen Tsai, allowed me to use his blog to talk about the Major League Baseball Draft. Sorry to disappoint all you football followers.

Will try to keep you updated when someone with Hawai‘i ties gets picked. But that might be hours from now, as no one is expected to be picked in the first seven rounds.

Unlike football and basketball, you will not recognize most of the 1,400-plus names that will go off the draft tracker on MLB.com. You can watch the first round on ESPN2.

Let’s wish all the guys with ties to Hawai‘i well.

Happy birthday to BG, who turned 61-derful today. Here’s BG sporting his new Under Armour UH polo shirt:

  9. Jayson June 5, 2008 8:53 am

I just saw a blurb on CNN saying it was 8.99 for juice in Hawaii. Yikes!

  10. homey ® June 5, 2008 8:56 am

ahhhhhh, that was a nice nap.

Bulla – Thanks for thinking of my well being.

Kekoa – No worry. With your connections, there’ll be plenty security.

Stacy knows everything about baseball? What Hawaii youth team was the first to ever play in a Youth Baseball World Series?

  11. homey ® June 5, 2008 8:57 am

Jayson – At least gas is cheaper than juice. 😆

  12. Da Punchbowl Kid June 5, 2008 9:00 am

Some juice will give you gas. 😉

  13. Jayson June 5, 2008 9:01 am

No kidding, it isn’t any cheaper to live here (NY) than it was in Hawaii. I know I would gladly put up with the cost of living to be back there. I just looked at Gigi’s website a few minutes ago and suddenly got very hungry!

    Interview with Hercules!

DW: Who was your biggest football and non-football influence growing up and why?

HS: My biggest football influence came from all of the relatives I have played with in college. I had two relatives that got drafted last year (Samson Satele and Melila Purcell) and they have been through the ropes. When they came back to Hawaii they taught me everything that they have learned and told me what it takes to play at the pro level.

HS: My biggest non-football influence comes from my father. He is the first person to introduce me to the game. He never played football, but he got my foot in the door and showed me the true meaning of work ethic.

DW: Is there an upcoming game for the 2008 season that you’re particularly looking forward to?

HS: My cousin, Samson Satele plays for the Dolphins, so I am excited to play them. Also a good friend of mine, Isaac Sopoaga, plays for the 49ers. It will be great to play against his team twice this season. And someday I hope to be able to play against the Cleveland Browns, because my cousin Melila Purcell plays for them.

DW: What are you planning for your first NFL paycheck?

HS: Right now, I wish I could do a lot of things. But I am going to save it up, so I can get my parents a good present.

DW: What are some of your strengths that you can bring to the Cardinals?

HS: From my position, the offensive line, I can bring quickness and technique. Especially, playing college at Hawaii, I have a lot of experience with pass blocking. My run blocking skills are getting better all the time. Now that I am in the 3-point stance, I am quicker off the snap and I can feel the difference.

  15. homey ® June 5, 2008 9:06 am

    Who will get drafted first?

A local HS player or a player from the Rainbow Warriors baseball team?

  16. LizKauai [Believer] June 5, 2008 9:06 am

hi xs-homey! “Stacy knows everything about baseball? What Hawaii youth team was the first to ever play in a Youth Baseball World Series?”

    Were you on the team???

    Jayson,

Thanks for going to my blog! Yeah, I, too lived in NYC — for 5-1/2 years! Too long.

    Hawaii no ka oi.

  18. Garret June 5, 2008 9:07 am

This is a great way to refer to Chad Kapanui!

The Bandits are led by their two All Star playmakers – quarterback Chad Kapanui and running back John Bentley. Kapanui ranks second in the UIF in passing yards (2,178) and third in touchdown passes

Article on a former Hawaii (not UH) athlete trying out a new sport.

    He’s a two time NFL pro-bowler.

His wife is from Kahuku, and he’s the sports director at the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia.

And soon, Vai Sikahema can add boxer to that list — as he prepares for a bout with former major leaguer Jose Canseco.

  25. homey ® June 5, 2008 9:11 am

Hi-dee-ho XLiz – I wasn’t on the team and I don’t know the answer. The teams I played on couldn’t get out of the local qualifying pool play! 😆

Jerome Williams…injuries, trades…last I heard he was somewhere playing in Long Beach.

  34. tom mui June 5, 2008 9:35 am

When we were visiting our oldest child in NJ just a couple of weeks ago, we discovered that the prices at Costco were about the same or even slightly higher than here in Honolulu and supermarket prices were about the same as well. Gas was hovering around $4.00 though I did spot one selling for $3.80 in an area where the other stations were selling around $3.90.

So I don’t doubt that the cost of living in NYC would be about the same as Honolulu.

  35. Jayson June 5, 2008 9:39 am

At one point I think NJ actually has the lowest average gas prices in the country.

  36. Bulla June 5, 2008 9:40 am

    aloha stacey,

did you know that ST referred to you as a ‘bulla wanna-be’ in a previous conversation?

i told him you were a possible candidate, just have to get a little taller! haha

joking aside, for those that don’t know, SK is ‘da man’ to local high school athletics…as ST is to UH, SK is to local high school sports :):):)

Stretch – Maybe Hee will get drafted by the Cubs…that would be Midori’s dream eh??? Mwahahahahaha

homey – Yep. Hobbs was a pitcher. In fact he got his original fame by striking out the guy that is supposed to symbolize Babe Ruth when the train made the stop at that State Fair…..

Okay, gotta go to work….running late as well….

    Laterz.

  47. stacyj June 5, 2008 10:02 am

gigi, just passed a gas station in Kona town…$4.23 for regular. Gas alone is gonna make us bankrupt in Kona.

  48. homey ® June 5, 2008 10:03 am

FALSE PORDAGEE – Yep, legend in my own mind! I was the one who would pick up the bats, kept score, filled up the cooler with water, straightened out the helmets in the dugout, warmed up the pitcher between innings, retrieved the balls as they were thrown back in after warmups, if the pitcher got on base after batting then I would run and give him his jacket, fetched foul balls and gave it back to the umps, warmed up the outfielders between innings (my own team), and enthusiastically cheered my teammates on until the game ended. That’s about it…

  49. midori7 June 5, 2008 10:05 am

    Morning Tsaikos!

Finally got to talk to someone at the football office to inquire about Mrs. Mack’s Football Clinic. They are taking name, address & phone #’s at this time. They will call back when more info becomes avail. uhfan808 & I can’t wait to attend clinic!

Looking forward to hearing updates about Hawaii players in the baseball draft.

    And lastly, GO LAKERS!

  50. Stacy Kaneshiro June 5, 2008 10:07 am

Sorry for the delayed response; I’m watching the draft show on ESPN2.
Re: Youth team in World Series. I don’t know. Enlighten us.

Yes, will let you know when Jon Hee gets picked.

  53. SteveM June 5, 2008 10:10 am

    Good morning everyone!

The blog is still working correctly today (thought I might have been delirious last evening). Wow…it displayed correctly in Mac Safari the first 3 days, got the blues for 3 months, and now is OK again! I will cautiously wait the next 3 days… But this should also clear up the blue screen of blog-death problem the PC users have been reporting.

In the meantime, I reiterate that I seen no other problems with Safari 3.1.1 on a Macintosh running OS 10.4. Staying home today so can’t check the lower and higher versions that the schools use.

ST — I would really like to know who fixed the blue background/CSS problem…

  54. FloridaTed June 5, 2008 10:14 am

    Morning/afternoon, Tsaiko Nation, morning, Stacy,

How does it feel to have the “Power”?

Anybody from UH has a chance at being drafted?

  55. FALSE PORDAGEE June 5, 2008 10:18 am

midori – yeah, I taught you and da fan 808 was going be giving pointas at da clinic….

  56. Ronnie June 5, 2008 10:19 am

I wish I could be there for the football clinic 🙁 Maybe they could make it a Webex or streaming video kindof thing so those of us who can’t be there can still attend. Doesn’t Coach Mac read the blog? Hmmm… Something to follow up on when I’m home!

And gas at the station by my house is $4.41 for regular. I think it is more in LA county. Yikes!

  57. Scott Morifuji June 5, 2008 10:19 am

    @SteveM:

The Safari fix was done by John Garcia.

  58. homey ® June 5, 2008 10:20 am

Stacy Kaneshiro – If memory serves me right…When I was a youngster and visited my Uncle on Maui he had a trophy in a showcase that said something to the effect, “World Series Champions – Pony League”. My dad said my late Uncle’s team from Maui was the first team outside the continental US that won a World Series. I don’t know how accurate that statement is but if it is true then Maui No Ka Oi! Oh, and this was in 1969 or around that time.

  69. Stacy Kaneshiro June 5, 2008 10:35 am

OK, some trivial draft info. related to Hawai‘i.
San Francisco Giants reserve infielder Travis Denker signed to play for UH. But he signed with the Dodgers, who drafted him in the 21st round in 2003. He was in the same recruiting class as Steven Wright.

Re: UH players who might get drafted: RHP Matt Daly, C Landon Hernandez, OF Brandon Haislet, RHP Josh Schneider, INF Jon Hee.
Former Rainbow shortstop Troy Hanzawa of San Diego State.
UH recruits: Kirby Yates, Kolten Wong.
UH recruits from the Mainland: RHP Lenny Linsky, RHP Matt Sisto, OF Chase Koissian and C Nick Croce.

  75. Stacy Kaneshiro June 5, 2008 10:41 am

    Midori7:

Re: Impact of 5th-year college seniors not being able to sign as free agents.
We’ll find out with this draft. It might mean all teams will use all 50 picks. It might mean late-round high school and college guys don’t get picked. But there’s still light at the end of the tunnel. If a player eligible for the draft isn’t picked, he still could be signed after the draft as an undrafted free agent. That’s what happened to former Rainbow Joe Spiers last year. He went undrafted after his junior season at San Diego State, but signed with the Braves after.

Howzit, Y’all! Greetings from Waynesboro, Georgia where it is 98 degrees today. Mahalo to LizK for talking with my vacation Bible school class last evening. We are working around a Hawaiian theme and my education from the Tsaiko’s has really come in handy. I have divided my class into teams and we have played various games in addition to a Bible lesson. I have the 7th & 8th graders. Last night we played football and the Kauai team and the Maui team advanced to play for the Pineapple trophy. It has been a lot of fun for me and it brings back good memories of the friends I met in New Orleans.
Have a great summer and good luck against those Gators August 30th!

List me as a Tsaiko, I am proud to be counted among this esteemed group. I think I will wear my Tsai-ko shirt tonight. Believe me as Aug 30th approaches I am the biggest Warrior fan ever! I have even considered giving up my tickets to the UGA-Ga Southern game for a trip to Gainesville.

Well I am off to church for our last night of classes. I am tsai-ked about the football championship game we have tonight, oh and the lesson too.

  106. A-House June 5, 2008 11:19 am

    Off topic, but:

2008 has been a most historic year for the State of Hawaii – first, the Warriors represent us in the Sugar Bowl and hopefully with many more to come, and second, a local boy, Barrack Obama, is the Democratic nominee for US President.

I purchased extra copies of the morning papers because 1) first time a “non-white” person is nominated and hopefully become our next President; 2) because Barrack is a “local boy”; and third, I knew his Dad ( stayed in the same dormitory while attending UH).

Just great to be a Hawaiian!!!!!!

  107. homey ® June 5, 2008 11:22 am

3 hours later…The baseball draft sure takes a long time…

  108. homey ® June 5, 2008 11:25 am

A-House – You’re Kanaka Maoli? You get strong asian features!

  109. AWHs' Cousin June 5, 2008 11:28 am

    Hey Stretch,

Thanks for backing my cousin on his spelling. If that wasn’t you, then my cousin must have been using your name. I’ll tell him to stop that. He is just trying to make trouble with someone.

Like the time we went to the Parker Ranch on the big island to get ourselves a cow to make burgers to feed the homeless some organic meats. He would unclip the saddles of the other guys who have been there a long time. Back in the day I used to make these saddles by chewing through tough leather myself from cattle I used to herd by running though the fields. Good thing I used to run cross country regularly from the east to the west and even went through Canada to make it to Alaska in hopes that I could… …. Wait, what was I talking about?

  110. Loa June 5, 2008 11:30 am

    ho g-nalo getting bashed today!

A-House – good one #106, and we still get the rest of the year to go

  111. homey ® June 5, 2008 11:31 am

AWHs’ Cousin – While you were running, did you happen to cross paths with Forrest Gump?

  112. WreckinEyez June 5, 2008 11:31 am

Okay, back from meetings all day and looking forward to going with Kekoa and BG to put this thing together.

It is hard for me to watch Baseball I must admit but I actually don’t mind watching golf.

  113. homey ® June 5, 2008 11:33 am

Loa – Yeah, we’re giving DPK a break. We don’t want to deal with his whiny lawyer. 😆

  114. Loa June 5, 2008 11:34 am

i thought one of the PC LL teams was the first to win the world series for 12 year olds?

  115. WreckinEyez June 5, 2008 11:35 am

  117. homey ® June 5, 2008 11:36 am

  119. Loa June 5, 2008 11:39 am

  120. WreckinEyez June 5, 2008 11:43 am

Homey, we will find out today…

It would be a little different though, everyone will sing together… that is all I am saying…

  121. WreckinEyez June 5, 2008 11:44 am

    Loa,

Yah.. that is what he calls his Barbie collection… his animals too by the way.

  122. Stacy Kaneshiro June 5, 2008 11:46 am

The baseball draft is long. Still got 49 more rounds!!!

It wasn’t too long ago, the draft was secretive. The teams would call the players, sometimes not even tell them what round they were taken. Back then, we had to call the players constantly throughout the day and ask if they were drafted. MLB would release the draft list about a week later.
Until 1986, there used to be two phases of the draft, once in January and again in June.

  123. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc June 5, 2008 11:50 am

WAFAN: Re your Post 519 in yesterday’s blog:

Aswassednjan = As was said in Jan? Heck, it does not make any sense to me — even with my haolified pidgin.

Pdgin is a spoken bridge language and was not written down & analyzed from a linguistic perspective until after WWII. Were you to hear it rather than read it, then you’d be more likely to understand given the context – responding to his Post 312 – That’s what he said in January.

In other words, to confirm what Mark Takai said in a phone conversation way back in January.

Several folks post here in pidgin. The only way for me to understand what they’re saying is to take the time to read each post out loud. Even then, I’m not sure that I have the content/context correct, but unless it deals with something I really want to know, I just let it pass.

COACH HEATHER’S CLINC: The confirming phone call came in this morning and it’s already on the calendar & date book. Fortunately, two of the three meetings normally scheduled for third Thursdays of the month are on summer break in August so DrDoc will attend the third one to keep him out of trouble while we’re learning more about the game of football.

Someone yesterday mentioned about going to the Na Koa football luncheons to learn more about the game as well as about the team. Yes, the luncheon programs are a valuable resource, but many of us are constrained by either time or money or both to attend them even on a semi-regular basis. However, we’re still interested in learning about the game so the Clinic sounds as if it is a great way to learn – especially being able to ask questions in a “safe environment.”

KEKOA: Mahalo for the response and am looking forward to your report. However, it looks more & more likely that we’ll be doing the same thing that evening we’re doing on June 19 which is to stop by for a few minutes to say hello but not staying because of other commitments.

Have a great day everyone – Mahalo to Stacey for tracking the baseball draft. Back in the day – I was a batgirl for a Trple A franchise which cemented my love for baseball.

  124. homey ® June 5, 2008 11:51 am

  126. homey ® June 5, 2008 11:53 am

  127. g-nalo June 5, 2008 11:53 am

    ho g-nalo getting bashed today!

    Loa – today???

no wonder i’m just a wannabe lurker, no can keep up.

  128. A-House June 5, 2008 11:58 am

and SteveM – no forget that LK made a tsaiko name tag for Merv which he wore to the Japanese buffet gathering on game day.

and Merv, to make a “shaka”: extend your arm; palm up with fingers spread; pull in your middle 3 fingers with more pressure on the ring finger which will automatically bring in your index and middle fingers; inner fingers will be touching; walla, you now have the “shaka”

Proper way to “flash the shaka” is back of hand facing whomever you’re greeting!!

  129. Loa June 5, 2008 11:59 am

g-nalo – 101 & 103, well at least you score on the commercial

homey – what about gigi and liz?

  133. homey ® June 5, 2008 12:07 pm

A-House – I see you take the passive route to make a shaka.

My way is to make a fist, then make pretend you are throwing an uppercut, then stick out the thumb and point the pinkie up. There you go, “SHAKA”

    Then I have the bird…

  134. homey ® June 5, 2008 12:09 pm

loa PCLL made it to da big show many times but no cigar but one big claim they and no other state can claim is this one team of boys who played in four LLWS finals. Once as 12’s, 13’s, junior and seniors. They set the standard and was the model for all pcll teams there after. good kids and great bball players.

DPK – come out to plaaay..yayyyyyyyy

  142. Stacy Kaneshiro June 5, 2008 12:57 pm

Mililani High’s Dustin Antolin went 3-4 with a 4.24 ERA. 32 Ks to 16 BBs and 21 hits allowed in 34 innings. Might not look impressive, but scouts look for physical and mechanical attributes, as well as makeup, so don’t take the stats to mean much.

Draft is in second round, close to third now. Not sure how many rounds they will get in today.

  143. Koauka June 5, 2008 12:58 pm

Man, the MLB draft is in the middle of the second round. Geez, who they think they are the NFL! (lol)

indeed, las vegas ponders, what would a psychiatrist/psychologist say about someone who speaks in the 3rd person?

but then again las vegas is not known as a deep thinker.

Did you ever get in touch with Thuy?

  155. Stacy Kaneshiro June 5, 2008 1:33 pm

Three rounds in, no Hawaii players taken.

Lots of guys who played against UH have been picked: Tanner Scheppers, Andrew Liebel, Vance Worley, Jason Castro, to name a few.

of course, our leader Al is like a well manicure bonsai tree, very old, filled with wisdom and meticulously manicured.

    don’t you think?

Being a Hapa-Haole sometimes it is hard to fit in.

I remember as a 15 yo at Camp Erdman(sp) a Haole kid was hitting on a local girl by the pool.
She got rid of him by pointing to me and saying “I no like Haole boys, I like Pordagee boys like las vegas”!

To this day, I feel slightly insulted.

But everytime I pulled, she’d repeatedly scream “Teddy! oh god Teddy!”.

Turns out she was wearing a teddy and ended up with some mean roadrash down south.

    SteveM,

you sure got a room at Genji’s big enough for 40 people? or will we be split up in 2 rooms?

The main room is rated for 45 people–so by Tsaik-ko standards that means we might get cozier than usual. But with people coming and going, I hope we only average around 35 at any given moment. Worse case is we expand into the original karaoke/sports bar portion of the building, but that is where I suspect their usual Thursday night regulars might seek refuge.

Parking will be an issue since the usual adjacent parking lots we use at night might still have shops open and the residential street parking may be scarce. Disadvantage of a week night, but cannot help. Will work on something later–like car pooling or a “shuttle”service.

My orginal estimate was 20-30 people…remember how I was trying to see if we could get the minimum of 20 for the buffet? 🙂

  233. gigi-hawaii © June 5, 2008 2:49 pm

  271. Bulla June 5, 2008 3:20 pm

    gigi,
never underestimate our handsome spanish/latino/filipino friend, he is far from poor. he has been endowed with many gifts, some larger than most. who else can boast of such exploits on a public forum?

it is always invigorating to see how he postures himself either on the blog or in person. with rippling muscles and slightly bulging forearms, he is the dream of many lustful fans, be it either gender.

homey is my hero, for all of the bantering he is the subject of, the one thing that is clear is that he is idolized by many around. in fact, in the National Geographic Series in the early ’90’s, it explained of a Pigmy tribe that allowed one of their very own to escape to Johannesburg, and then on to England and the South Pacific. i have pondered the remote possiblity if this could be our very own homey, but i am not fully convinced that was him. maybe a relative? who knows….but he will always be my hero………..big or small, he stands tall.

    GO HOMEY

  298. Stacy Kaneshiro June 5, 2008 3:43 pm

OK, there was one player with brief ties to Hawaii picked, I’m told by Tampa Bay’s local scout Casey Onaga.
Outfielder Ty (Christopher) Morrison attended Mililani in the fall after transferring from a high school in Virginia. He then transferred to Tigard High in Tigard, Ore. He was picked in the fourth round by the Rays. During his stint at Mililani, he signed a letter of intent to play at Oregon, which just revived its baseball program.
Otherwise, he never played an inning here.

Another player to watch Friday with more local ties than Morrison is Oregon State reserve outfielder Koa Kahalehoe. He played JV baseball at Waianae his freshman year before his family moved to Nevada. He signed with Oregon State out of Durango High in Las Vegas, where he was considered one of the state’s top high school prospects at the time.

FInished bocha. Looked in the mirror. I need a case of Oil of Olay.

  337. Garret June 5, 2008 5:56 pm

Reggie Bush’s lawyers are trying to get the case into arbitration because that way the NCAA won’t get the testimony. That sure doesn’t sound like someone who followed the NCAA’s rules! Reggie paid off the other agent that sued him to avoid that court case, but it looks like the agent he paid off will have to testify in this trial.

Reggie Bush’s attorneys are seeking to have Lloyd Lake’s lawsuit against the former USC running back decided through arbitration rather than in court.

They have reserved a July 11 court date to argue a motion to compel arbitration and want the case stayed until that motion is heard, said Lake’s attorney, Brian Watkins. Bush’s attorney, David Cornwell, declined comment, saying, “I don’t want to clarify it because I don’t want to get ahead of the court.”

If the case is stayed and moved out of court, it would cut off potential court-related evidence available to the NCAA, which is investigating whether Bush and his family received impermissible benefits from Lake and his former business partner Michael Michaels.

Michaels, who owned the Spring Valley house where Bush’s parents lived in 2005-06, settled out of court with Bush last year for about $300,000 and an agreement not to talk about the case. But he is scheduled to give his deposition as a witness in Lake’s suit Monday. Watkins said Bush’s attorneys are trying to prevent that from happening because Michaels would corroborate Lake’s claims and create a record of it for the NCAA.

    Wafan,

IMHO – these two Great Tsaikos played key roles in the exponential success of this ‘ohana, the Tsaiko Nation!. There were two key events that boosted the development of the Tsaikos. BG and Kazz organized the tremendous Tsaiko Tailgates at Richardson field! And Rich and las vegas organized and “sponsored” that wonderful meeting in Las Vegas! Who knows what would have happened without BG and Rich stepping up and showing all of us the true aloha and Warrior spirit! Mahalo!!!

Saw him bouncing up at Dave and Busters last night and had a few words. Said his leg is feeling good and he ready for bull rush and knock heads with the Gator Oline. Hopefully he stays injury free but he looks to be in solid shape, bruddah is tick.

  364. Pauoa Boy June 5, 2008 9:16 pm

Anyone seen the Colorado Crush AFL game with Chad Owens? Seems to me he needs to be back in the league as he is regaining his old form and gaining confidence. Too bad, Miami Dolphins couldn’t pick him up if they was looking for a quick solid slot receiver but Davone is solid. Anyway, had to get that off my chest gotta support my Pauoa Boys! 390. Garret June 5, 2008 10:02 pm

    Pauoa Boy,

Camp Pendleton and Riverside are pretty far north–where will you be commuting to? There are good places with reasonable prices in (going west to east) Oceanside (where Pendleton is), San Marcos, Vista, Escondido, and a bunch of cities as you drive north on the 15 past Escondido.

Are you looking for renting or buying? How long are you planning on staying in the area? How many people will be with you? That makes a lot of difference in the recommendation.

You might now want to put all of this stuff on the blog, so feel free to e-mail me at gokamoto (at) gmail (dot) com. I have to go to sleep now (my boss let me blog when I finally finished my work for the day), but I’ll answer you as soon as I can. Pauoa Boy,

Riverside is kind of far from Oceanside and Camp Pendleton, especially with gas prices…I’ve made the commute from a little northeast of Riverside to La Jolla (30-40) minutes south of Pendleton). It’s not something you want to have to do that often.

Pauoa Boy ~ Ok den…good news from America, you and da ohana made it back safely! ST asked about you this afternoon. I wen Xplain how you knew how hectic things were kona be with your short visit home.

When you get to San Diego, be sure to check in with your Tsaiko Lo Cal Prez, Ronnie, and of course our Ace-in-da-hole, Garret. Too of the best peeps on da planet. At least you will be able to stay connected with da Tsaiko crew. They hold their CC’s at Kings Bakery, and you will be able to meet the other Tsaikos that hang together in the upper 48.

  411. d1shima [sez:] June 5, 2008 10:39 pm

    Pauoa Boy,

Glad you made it back okay. Hope da boy’s breathing is OK now.
The good thing about the change in plans is that you can hook up fo’ mean tailgates wit LoCal Tsaikos in da fall. 🙂

General speaking, the place passed muster for a Blog Bash Whoppa Doozie! We will be putting together all the answers to the many questions we know will come about from all the eyeballing we gave it. Be patient my fellow villagers and know that ST is working very closely with us to assure about 67% satisfaction. This rest is up to us.

  417. SteveM June 5, 2008 10:52 pm

    My son didn’t like it.

    GARRET:

A few weeks ago – maybe longer than that – you mentioned losing weight. How’s that coming along? Lower BP and cholesterol as well as weight loss?

Who started The Internet Cold? Five of us in the past week alone have been hit upside the head.

    How come no Celtic Shout-Outs?

Does anyone know what a WIKI is? I’ve been invited to join one, but when I asked about the moderator about it, he said that I’d have to join to find out. Please explain. Us folks on the far side of Information Gap need help.

CONGRAT Kalua and his Kuliouou ohana!

Good kid, hard worker. He, along with all his siblings, has his head screwed on the right way. Looking forward to seeing great things for him.

Al, you hit it on the nail, he got shafted as a d2 player. You look at his production for Kaiser and can’t help but wonder why nobody took a closer look at him. He comes from a very athletic family: dad, Kaulana Noa (cousin), Laanui Correa (cousin), Nahe Noa (brother), Regina Kaaihili (cousin)…and the list goes on.

Congrats to Kalua. If he is a tough cat like his dad, Kalua is gonna be a winner.

  433. stacyj June 5, 2008 11:50 pm

oh yeah, and his cousin Haku Correa…

Al, you know the family well?

  434. al June 5, 2008 11:50 pm

stephen perhaps you can put in a requisition for an upgrade in camera. i was looking at your dinosaur last week. you could get better results.

  435. stacyj June 5, 2008 11:51 pm

I like your pictures ST. And wasn’t there a bio scheduled today or did I miss the “day-off” memo?

  436. al June 5, 2008 11:58 pm

i know the dad from back in the days.
older brother of kalua at one time lived across the street.
my #2 son also a kaiser grad.
ran into henry a few months ago and we talked about his son.
told him to go talk to miano.
    then glanville or mouse.
then go jc route in arizona since they offer scholies.
even had a tsaiko talk to the wildcats of weber st on his behalf.
also, spoke with doris who told me he took too long to get his tapes up.
i guess they never realized the importance of planning.
they thought offers would come a knocking on the door.
i am very glad for him and family.
he will play all out local boy style and will out hustle anybody out there.
he will be a player in the years to come.
i think he ran a sub 11.0 100m and ran a 4.49 in his junior year.
    good kid.

  437. Stephen Tsai June 6, 2008 12:00 am

I can’t make the pictures too perfect, Al.
Then you’d never go out in public.

  439. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:06 am

was just wondering al…his mom is a Reeves….so is my husband. The Noas are a great bunch of kids. Kalua and his brother helped us pack our container when we moved to Kona. Hard worker.

I agree, Kalua will be a great asset to the team, both on and off.

  440. al June 6, 2008 12:07 am

    too cute stephen.

these puppies are like having an anchor. in a month things will be back to normal. by then we will still have three dogs. mom n pop and one baby.

that would be good on a cold night.
we could actually live out a “three dog night”.

  441. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:08 am

let me guess, ST new post soon?

  442. al June 6, 2008 12:09 am

    Al:

Comparing Kona to Kihei, thems fighting words.

Kona is the best place to chill. Kihei, well, hard to find the locals.

When I was a tour director, everybody would fight for a group in kona.

Good people, everybody know everybody, everybody take care each other.

But be nice, be respectful of the peeps.

And let the good times roll….

  453. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:16 am

    anybody?

  454. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:19 am

    Koauka! Yeah!

Yup, Kona is awesome. No plans to ever move back to the concrete jungle. I like single lane highways, people who still throw the shake at oncoming cars, and the mom and pop stores just down the road.

  455. Koauka June 6, 2008 12:23 am

    stacyj:

wish i could move to kona, but the mrs said she like the life on this rock. so if i want to go, a one way ticket is cheaper than round trip. (lol)

Someday soon I’ll be back. miss the peeps.

  456. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:23 am

    g’nite Koauka…what a tease, yeah!

  457. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:24 am

    oh, you are here….

    What area did you live?

  458. Stephen Tsai June 6, 2008 12:24 am

Stacy Kaneshiro is going to do the new post.
He’s borrowing the blog because of the baseball draft.

  459. Koauka June 6, 2008 12:26 am

I can handle…. the tease that is. Aloha. i can stay up all night i like. No work till
2pm, gonna have fun now. Not to thrilling at 2pm – yuck!

  460. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:27 am

One thing about Kona, you got it all…ocean, mountain. Got camping, cowboy life, fishing. Can head up Waimea or up Mauka. if you feel like driving, go to Hilo for the day. And the pace is so relaxing. I sat in traffic today because of major rain for 40 mins and it seemed like 10. Just cruise.

  461. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:29 am

St: okay, then I won’t think everyone is talking to me again. Kinda like when you are at the store and someone calls out Stephen and you look, but they weren’t calling you. I thought coming out from lurking, everyone was my new friend.

  462. stacyj June 6, 2008 12:30 am

k-night for real. kids will be up with the chickens…and, no, i don’t have chickens. I know I live country, but….

  463. Koauka June 6, 2008 12:35 am

    stacyj:

The tour groups I worked with stayed at Hotel King Kamehameha and the Kona Surf.
I believe the Kona Surf is now a Sheraton (I think).

The folks at the Kona Surf were the best.

I guess I gotta enjoy life in Pearlridge for now. I keeping mailing my Publishers Clearing House entries. Maybe if I win the $10 million I can live at Hokulia and be June’s neighbor.

I can only wish and dream.
