Hold your breath
During repair work on the UH athletic complex, the presence of asbestos was detected.
An asbestos-removal project for the first floor is set for next week. According to a person familiar with the situation, those working there were told not to work there Monday and Tuesday. Alhough the project will last the entire week, those deemed “essential” are asked to return Wednesday.
But employees are understandably wary. One employee is pregnant and in her second trimester.
Another employee had been working in an office where asbestos was supposedly found.
There is a three-stage process. The third floor is set for asbestos removal in mid-January — the home stretch of football recruiting.

A Cadillac blocked the path where I usually park for practice. Grrr. Turns out the owner is Rinda Brooks, one of the Greg McMackin’s first great pass-rushers. He still looks like he can play. I guess, he can park there. This time.

We’re giving away two tickets to Friday’s volleyball match between WAC champion UH and Cal Poly. If you post today, you’re automatically entered in the drawing.
Hello?

Inform the media!
Aloha Jojo!

WOO HOO!!!
Top 10
Is there a cattle call this Friday?
Damn, I was posting on the previous blog topic not knowing this was here…
top 5 – NOT
Where did the homey clan go?
Asbestos?!?!?!? You gotta be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!
alright more tickets, morning jojo, tommui and the rest of the tsaikos.
Top 15.
You mean they didn’t know the material they used in the construction contained asbestos?
Top 100!
Cattle Call? It’s almost lunchtime…
Curveball – get a haircut!
T-gaters – don’t forget to bring your baseball gloves this Saturday.
tommui – when was the last time I saw you? Last year? Oh boy…
Must be a slow sports day since the topic is about asbestos…
Yee Haw a new post!
Bummer! Asbestos in the ceiling!
A friend of mine decided to save money and remove the asbestos in her townhome ceiling on her own. She and her fiancé had to buy special hazmat gear and pay extra for proper disposal. What a pain it was, but she saved money…
Hope that everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!
jojo – tommui still looks the same.
Maui No Ka Oe!
SF took The Mrs and Kimana for a wild ride. Me & pops had to rescue them.
I gotta send them back on HAL. Mrs K is still looking a little green around da gills! Poor ting no can handle da Molokai Channel.
Ronnie – Your friends were protected but now the tenants in the adjoining townhome have mesothelioma.
I just have to carry my off-topic rant over from yesterday’s blog…
Today, I read one of the “lamest” quotes I’ve ever seen. It was in an article about how an additional Yorba Linda reservoir was approved and paid for but never built. Not a big deal except that of the 19 homes damaged or destroyed in one neighborhood, “at least five burned because fire hydrants went dry, fire fighters said.”
There are 100 homes in the neighborhood. That means that at least 5% of the neighborhood was destroyed because building the reservoir “was stalled over the [past 30] years by indecision among residential developers, competing water district projects and negotiations with environmentalists.”
Ready for the quote? Here it is…
“It was a problem of too much fire, not a problem of not enough water,” said water district spokesman Laer Pearce.
Sorry C_C and Colt, lame is too good for what this quote is!
You make the call homey! I’m in if it involves burning meat on a gas grill 🙂
Mei Ling — probably no Cattle Call today. A proper cattle call requires 1.5 hours advance notice… 😆
Kekoa – I’m with the Mrs… I’d much rather fly!
curveball – I have your fruit bowl and will be bringing it to the tailgate this Saturday.
Kymry – I have your salad tongs and will bring them also.
homey – Are you bringing some weird animal parts on Saturday?
Hi Ronnie…did you talk to Rich yet?
Did SteveM just initiate a cc at Camellia?
Gotta make the Longs Drugs trip…bbl
Hi Kekoa!
I want to take a ride on the Super Ferry but will wait until summer when the waters are calmer. I heard the channel can be rough!
Asbestos?
How long ago was this stuff installed?
Seems like I’ve been seeing “Leave-it, Yo-money, and Summoa” TV ads forever about asbestos suits. Was there awareness of the problem at initial construction?
Who’s budget is this coming out of?
Two steps forward, three steps back 🙄
Hi Rob!
I did. IM me when you have the chance.
Kekoa — tell the Mrs. not to read, play cards, or do anything that requires thinking while on small vessels like the Super Ferry! Hmmmm–I guess that’s why cruse ships are so much fun. 😐
g-nalo:
Stretch already booked and paid for his airline tickets to Seattle and Vegas.
We are close behind and may get it all done next week.
U staying at the Flamingo Hilton next Sept? Never tried their craps table, but it would be a good time!!
Can all the Tsaikos hear it: “come and get me, come and get me, COME AND GET ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I loved City Slickers.
Kekoa,
Glad you folks arrived safely. Sorry to read the casualty list though.
Hopefully they recover in time to enjoy Turkey Day!
Great experience. Best service I have ever had! Full refund adjustment on the 2 returns fares. I will ride it to Kauai wen Liz is put in charge.
You’ve got to be kidding me ! After all those years and everything that’s known about Asbestos, I can’t believe that there are still public, or even private, places still left with this horrible stuff. I wouldn’t go near this place until it’s done.
Gotta go get replacement Xmas lightbulbs….
laterssss….
afternoon gang!
how’s everybody doing?
happy pre turkey day!
Nah–that’s Al’s chore. I just eat and do some Karaoke Calls. But here’s giving minimum 1.5 hour advance notice, just in case… 🙄
I think the complex was completed in 1982 or 1983 (my first or second senior year at UH).
That seems pretty late.
Then again, this is the state that built the viaduct that didn’t connect, the softball stadium in which home plate could not be viewed from 80 percent of the seats, and came up with the belief that Aloha Stadium would rust, to a point, then stop.
Go UH Wahine. A sure victory over Cal Poly awaits on Friday.
I already loaded my iPod with Christmas songs.
asbestos – i thought the stuff was outlawed long time ago
1982? sheesh, i guess that is a long time ago
ST,
I loaded my iPod with Christmas songs last night!
i remember we had this white popcorn ceiling that they sprayed some kind solution on to seal the asbestos in, they told us was cheaper to contain then remove
ST – so how was practice today?
1982 – I was 10 years old and in the 5th grade at Ka’ahumanu Elementary
When I was a young apprentice machinist at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard I was exposed to broken asbestos lagging on hot water pipes on board the ships. We were so lolo at that time not knowing how dangerous that stuff was until workers started to die from cancer (including my uncle).
If I were the workers I wouldn’t go in there until the project was completely cleared of that stuff…
Kekoa-
The water is way more calm coming home from Maui- following seas. Happy Thanksgiving!
Kekoa – #36 – at first glance i thought you was talking about the dark side
Hi Loa! Welcome back!
Just got back from the market. Uh…it’s a little nuts out there.
Gloomy weather outside. Makes me want to go to sleep…..
hiya Asports!
happy to be back
Howzit Loa – long time no see.
I was reading the article on Colt this morning and the quote by Fred Davis reminded me of a certain Tsaiko who I will not name.
Long Time UH Fan – hope you got yourself checked out after that exposure
i remember being sent to a physical at the shipyard and i ask my boss what for then he tells me they gotta get one radiation baseline before you work by the reactors
what? no wonder my hair falling out
I don’t know if anyone mention this but Pat Forde of ESPN wrote a nice little blurb about the Warriors. Here is the link to the article (see #27)…
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&page=dash0813&sportCat=ncf
I almost didn’t read the entire feature; I got stuck on the Jessica Gomes photo.
Anyway, I want to wish the entire Warrior Nation a Happy Thanksgiving.
BTW – Saturday’s score: 45 – Warriors / 13 – Wazoooo.
From NY Times circa 1989
Outlawed in the early 1970’s? and still here? not cool at all.
Loa:
Practice was good today.
Graunke showed up, but then left abruptly. He did not practice.
Pilares did not practice. I don’t think Pilares or Mouton will play this week.
howzit Stretch!
no more practice report?
ST – thanks for the report
Loa – ST don’t call me with the practice reports anymore so no can post them, the cell phone don’t catch here on Kauai, too far away. I just have to wait along with everyone else.
Tyler, Kealoha, Ryan – get well soon!
I think the asbestos they found was in the drywall compound, it’s where most of it was found on campus. I also know some of it is in the flooring tiles, usually the glue used for the tiles. I do work on campus as a subcontractor and usually that is the warning before we enter a building.
Stretch – 😆 maybe gotta give SJ & Myki your cel no.
Wow… asbestos… that just goes to show you that nobody’s been doing any real maintenance for a long long LONG time. egads!
Aloha all! Hope your Thanksgiving eve is going well.
For anyone interested… the NaKoa lunch report has been posted by UHWarriors
http://www.nakoa.org/pages/lunch_summaries/lunch11_24_08.html
Jason,
Thanks for your comment on the last blog, I think. Although there’s no line waiting for chawan. You don’t have to worry at basketball games. No one is gonna rush the seats in a stampede to get to me. Your seat is safe.
las vegas – thanks for the info, hmmm, if was outlawed in the 70’s i wonder got installed in 82-83?
Ha, ha how people worry about asbestos in buildings when it has been used in brakes and clutches for centuries.
ST who were the runningbacks used at practice??
too bad about TG, what a waste of potential.
if he had kept his head on straight and his nose clean,
UH should have beaten the Spartans and Aggies and would already
be bowl eligible at 8-3.
Good luck in your future endeavors post UH.
Entered.
All dat true, Senor Vegas. All the best to Tyler.
Princess Leila – thank you for the story and video’s on Colt
more video from the princess.

The number two son comes in at midnight tonight. He’s 24. He’d prolly like to watch a womens collegiate volley ball game.
Happy day before Thanksgiving!
Whoosh!
oh, and since everyone will be too busy tomorrow eating, watching football and sleeping, i’d better say it today.
Happy Turkey Day!
Thanks to you all for everything!
rest up friday (unless you’re a crazy black friday shopper) for game day on Saturday!
Stephen –
if by chance my name gets pulled for the VB tickets, please give them to DPK & son
thanks
g-nalo:
Stretch already booked and paid for his airline tickets to Seattle and Vegas.
We are close behind and may get it all done next week.
U staying at the Flamingo Hilton next Sept? Never tried their craps table, but it would be a good time!!
Can all the Tsaikos hear it: “come and get me, come and get me, COME AND GET ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I loved City Slickers.
haaaa, what say you Mr. A-House?
yep most likely Flamingo and yep, would be a good time “ja like” Rio. but don’t let ME touch the dice else three and out.
If Wazzu is truly as bad as MANY people have said they are, then it would be best if they are kept healthy. I hope Rego will see more time on Saturday if Pilares isn’t ready to go.
As for Mouton, our secondary hasn’t been as tight as many of us thought in the beginning of the season, so his absence will be missed, but again, if Wazzu’s QB folds under pressure like how MANY said he does, then our front seven is talented enough to cause problems.
Still, to not have those two in any game gives the other team two more chances to beat us.
DPK,
Hope all is well. Friday night will be a great night to spend in Majestic Manoa. Hope to see you there!
Loa,
There were no significant traces of asbestos; so I was OK. At the time I was working at PHNS, they were overhauling the sub USS Sargo. Some workers made tons of $$ working O/T and bought houses in Pacific Palisades for $25K. And they absorbed a lot of radiation; I wonder what the limits of milliroengtens was at that time and was it worth the money if they were overexposed…
Mesothelioma sucks big donkey.
Speaking of which, (mesothelioma, not the donkey) we’ve got a world renowned mesothelioma researcher, Dr Michele Carbone at the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii.
ok gang, was nice to chat with erryone today even only for short time
have a safe and happy thanksgiving
i’ll be down the road from homey’s alma mater this long weekend seeking shade
aloha
KAzz,
Post #82, I agree. Like D1Shima said “watch out for the trap”..just like Utah State game. For amusement purposes, I see that the Warriors are 28.5 point favorite over Wazzu. I hope the Warriors don’t pay any attention to that and focus on winning the game.
Rob25: No worry about bringing my salad tongs.
Happy almost Thanksgiving everyone!
re: asbestos
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/asbestos
Howzit Tsai-kos!
Only a few more hours to go, then I get to brave the crowds at the grocery stores. Ugh. Went to Costco yesterday and the place was more of a madhouse than usual.
Early Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving day to all, time to get ready for work see you on Saturday or hopefully some of you on Friday night.
…brought over from the last blog topic:
Rinda Brooks, that’s a name we haven’t heard in a while. What is he up to nowadays?
Okay, gotta run.
Rob25 – Just eat what we bring!
Oh yeah, Kekoa, next time, da Mrs. should sleep on the ferry. It helped me get through the rough (queasy) parts. And don’t eat anything heavy or greasy before boarding.
bunch of landlubbers…
Yes sir! Indeed! When Wazzu’s beat writer told Bobby Curran “we’re most likely not as good as Idaho”, I screamed “B.S.!!!”
Wazzu has that pesky PAC-10 pride thing, they have “PAC-10” athletes, etc…
NO SLEEPING ON THIS ONE WARRIORS!!! ODDA-WISE WE GOTTA SEND KEKOA FO GET DA SLIPPAH!!!
g-nalo:
I think the 3 of us were like 3 n out the whole time on the Rio tables – that really sucked!!
Maybe change of venue will bring us real good luck.
LTUH,
***FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES*** I would NOT be surprised if we can’t cover those 28-points.
For two reasons:
-PAC 10 team.
-Coach Mack won’t run the score up. (Don’t ask me what happened against Idaho)
Besides with the possiblity of Pilares and Mouton sidelined, the spread might get a little smaller.
UH 38
Washington State 17
Kazz – if this was a Florida Gator blog they’d be saying their scout team could beat Wazzou. We know better…our Wahine volleyball team could beat them. 😆
Seriously, the coaches will get the players prepared and focused. Time for celebration is when the referee blows the final whistle or when the fluffy lady sings…whichever comes first.
Come on now, don’t put me in the same category as g-nalo when it comes to craps. Although he did claim to roll pretty good a few weeks back, but I wasn’t there to witness it.
The battle against Wussie will be up front. Same with Cincy.
Early Good Afternoon Everyone:
Wrote a DrDoc update for the last blog but accidently bleeped it when some e-mail came in.
Quick summary: DD is doing VERY well and has returned to work on a part-time basis about 12 to 18 hours a week which he’ll gradually increase over the next couple of months. His stamina level is still way too low to do much of anything beyond that – except for going to sporting events. He is walking up to 3/4 a mile every day and needs to increase that to at least three miles a day five days a week before he can go back to working out at the YMCA.
Although we skipped last Saturday’s game because of the junk weather – the last thing he needs is to get a cold – we have been going to various arena sports events. The only one we missed over the past 12 days was the WAC final game because he didn’t wake up from his nap until about 20 minutes before the first serve.
Two major hassles we’re still dealing with are food and yardwork. DD’s limited to 2000 mgs.of sodium a day. Even though we don’t even have salt in the house and haven’t ever, most commercially prepared foods whether purchased in a store or at a restaurant are loaded with sodium. In fact, we were told that the average adult-in-good-health’s daily diet in Hawai`i contains well over 10,000 mgs of sodium.
The yardwork stuff is a challenge – especially the back yard which is really in bad shape. A client of mine came over to mow the front lawn after the guy living next door to us complained to the landlord about how carppy it looked, but the back yard is way worse.
Fortunately, the jerk next door cannot see the back yard because of the 6 foot redwood fence. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to pay a yard service – the cheapest one we’ve contacted wants $250. I bought a scythe the other day to cut down the weeds’ngrass which are now almost waist-jhigh, but it will take me at least ten hours to cut it all down by hand so that I can push a lawnmower through the ankle-high remainder. I tried using a weedwacker, but I couldn’t control it very well and was concerned I’d wind up cutting up something valuable like my legs or Saturn The Dog.
Am back at work myself – first task is making courtesy calls to legislators. FYI: The new chair of Senate Higher Education, Jill Tokuda, happens to be my state senator. The big issue with respect to UH $$$$ is that the Gov has not issued bonds for various projects which were passed in the last two sessions whgich will expire next July if not released.
Rep. Jerry Chang will continue on as Chair of the Committee on Higher Education in the State House. His new Vice Chair is Mark Nakashima, another Big Island legislator elected for the first time this year. Mark Takai is also on this Committeel.
Rep. Angus McKelvey (West Maui) is the new Chair and Isaac Choy, the new rep from Manoa is the Vice Chair of the Economic Revitalization, Business and Military Affairs Committee which oversees the Aloha Stadium. Mark Takai also sits on this Committee.
Here is information from Wikipedia about asbestos & its removal:
Have to go – CHEER LOUDLY FOR THE WAHINE TONIGHT AND FRIDAY AND SEE YOU ON SATURDAY AT THE T-GATE.
Stretch:
Not putting anybody into a special category, but we were pretty bad at Rio – should have gone NO PASS.
didnt rinda brooks make an impact after mack left. i thought it was ulbrich then rinda. he wore #1.
Rinda Brooks…He played linebacker right? I remember him getting hurt a lot.
Rinda Brooks. Man, that’s a name of the past. I remember him being pegged as the hardest hitter on the team. Nice to hear names of our Warrior genealogy now and then.
So Brooks played for VonAppen and Jones? Sheesh, my brain cells aren’t communicating with each other…all 10 of them.
Does anyone know the status of Miah Ostrowski? I’m assuming he redshirted for football this year (if he’s enrolled), but wondering why he isn’t playing basketball. I think he could have contributed at point guard this year.
Matt Harding was one of my favorites. It was always exciting when the other team had to kick a field goal against us.
I think he is redshirting this season.
I just can’t believe the spread is that big! The insidious aspect to that is that if UH struggles, they’ll be perceived as a lousy team. If they win convincingly, they were “supposed to” win big, so it doesn’t mean anything. It’s a lose-lose situation. Oh yeah–what if they perchance lose?? I don’t even want to entertain that thought. I want them to “bank” that Sheraton Hawaii Bowl now & not have to wait for the Cinci game.
Cattle Call?
miah ostrowski is redshirting. you can tell which players are redshirting bc they dont suit up for games. rumor on the boards is that Nash told ostrowski to not bother trying out for bball.
If I don’t get on before tomorrow….
jojo – plan it and they will come.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE 🙂 🙂
if any of you have some spare time and feel bored, stressed, overworked, underworked, ambitious, lazy, cultured, idiotic, creative, worthless, happy, sad, helpful, more lazy, selfish or selfless…..the list is absolutely endless…..
there is a great book to read, it is short, well written, and applicable to one and all
The Purpose of Christmas, by Rick Warren
it’s not a heavy book, but one that puts a lot of things in perspective….same author of ‘A Purpose Driven Life’. enjoy, and if not, still enjoy…………….
make memories, make memories, make memories…………..
protector – it’s only for amusement purposes… 😆 Whether the Warriors win by 1 point or many doesn’t really make a difference because then they become bowl eligible. It’s not like they are undefeated and have BCS aspirations like last season when they seemingly struggled against UDub in the 1st qtr and pulled out the win. Many were saying they don’t belong. This season, we win, we’re in. That’s all.
Bulla – same to you…
CALMNESS IN OUR LIVES
I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed, ‘The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.’
So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn’t finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how really good I feel right now. Pass this on to those whom you think might be in need of inner peace.
after all of that, now i have to and take a peace………….haha
Aloha Tsaikos!!! Was there any consensus on whether the attendance for the Wahine v-ball & WAC tourney was a success or not? I know they broke the record – but really, seemed kind of light….
Bulla – lots of wet stuff along the coast. I think it’ll clear by the weekend, but pack your rain gear! 😯 😀 😆
Ronnie – That was really a LAME story & excuse!!! 😈 and yet… so typical…. 😕 😯 🙄
Bulla – #123 LMAO. 😆 😆
On a serious note.
Prayers for peace in India.
brew808 – according to the WAC Commisioner, it was a success.
A-House, Some peeps… don’t like, don’t pass… players… playing! 😈 😡 😯
Bulla,
Hope Ryan’s shoulder is getting better …
Is he going to be ready for the playoffs?
homey– 😈 Oh… so we’re back to talking about L A M E !!! (aka KB-toys) 😈 😡 😯
Brew808 and A-House,
I agree…especially don’t play don’t pass at The Cal…whoa..plenty stink eyes..
Whoah….. I sure missed someone’s special videos…. and for that, I am truly grateful! 😀 😯 😆
I’m having a difficult time concentrating on my task at hand. Half of the office has already left to begin their Thanksgiving ritual. Expectations of hot turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy on my dinner plate has my mind wandering. Most of all, I will give thanks with the important people in my life who will be sharing our Thanksgiving meal.
To ST and all of the Tsaiko’s, have a blessed Thanksgiving. May you all enjoy happiness and love.
Come Friday, it will be hot turkey sandwich time. Yum.
Then Saturday, bring on those big kittens from Washington! I hope the Warriors play tough from the onset.
37-17
whoop dem cougars boys….whoop ‘um!
UH: 49
WSU: 14
I mean……
Whoah….. I sure missed someone’s special videos…. and now that they’re back!, – for that, I am truly grateful! 😀 😳 😆
D1Shima
Post #127, I remember when tourists were attacked and killed by terrorists in Luxor, Egypt…tourism went south for several years…
Prayers for all…including the hostages…
Steve Tsai,
They are doing asbestos work all week yet they are telling “essential” employees to come back? Does that mean non-essential workers are to stay home? If so thats utterly ludicriss. Either its A)unsafe or B)safe to return to work not a-for some and b-for others…especially when it involves stuff like asbestos.
Someone should contact OSHA or HIOSH.
I wouldn’t want to be one of the “essential” workers that are being told to work while the asbestos problem is being fixed!
las vegas: Yes, it’s a shame that Graunke didn’t take the starter’s job when should have had a lock on it, but let’s not forget his hand injury at OSU. No one reasonably expected a win at Florida, and he wouldn’t have been 100% for SJSU anyway because of said hand injury. If we’re playing the “what if” game, you could say he could’ve led us to victory against Utah State, but we had a lot of critical dropped ball and other issues that week that didn’t neecssarily fall on the QB.
The season turned out the way it turned out, and in a weird way it will probably help us next year since Alexander is getting those all-important game reps this year. We all know what could’ve been for Graunke, I’m sure he knows too, and all the best to him after he hopefully graduates from UH.
UH 42 Was who? 14
Thanks Loa! I appreciate the thought.
Just got back from Sam’s Club and Safeway. Madhouse times two. Everybody seemed to be in good holiday spirits.
Interesting that Nathan Mageo says in an article on Rivals that he hasn’t heard from SMU for a long time and that he hadn’t received an offer from SMU yet…that contradicts what was reported by multiple outlets when Mageo’s commit was reported.
Come on now, don’t put me in the same category as g-nalo when it comes to craps. Although he did claim to roll pretty good a few weeks back, but I wasn’t there to witness it.
Stretch:
Not putting anybody into a special category, but we were pretty bad at Rio – should have gone NO PASS.
yep, last time all three of us were PUNT, but not sure if the bad luck was the lead-off shooter Stretch or somebody’s forearm wasn’t nimble enough? nah nah j/k
next year we give it another try and i’m positive we’ll do better. yep, change of venue plus positive thinking.
The important thing to me is that UH makes the Hawaii Bowl…I don’t know if Tyler’s problems cost UH any games and as long as UH makes the Hawaii Bowl this season then I don’t really care. Things actually work out better this way because Tyler would have been done after this season and this way both Alexander and Inoke got a lot of playing time and will be ready for next season.
BSU to face undefeated Ball State on the Bowl game on the blue turf? That would be an interesting matchup, especially since it would be the non-BCS conference teams who went undefeated and were left out of the BCS. That bowl would get a lot of attention!
We can never forget that Tyler Graunke helped UH to a perfect season. Much respect to him, always.
TCU beat BYU 32-7, but the Las Vegas Bowl will pick BYU over TCU.
You said it. He earned his “schollie” many times over with the huge Nevada win.
Reading those comments regarding the Hawaii Bowl and how it should not be played, makes me feel disappointed. Don’t those people realize that any bowl game a team plays gets money? If there is only a handful of bowl games, then only a select few get a ton of money! Spread the wealth. Oh and I forgot what my password was to leave a comment over there.
Well, there goes the BYU matchup possibility for the Hawaii Bowl, as far-fetched as it was…
Hey, gang! Hi, ST!
Just popping in to say hi. I’m not vying for the vb tickets! 🙂
How about Navy for the Hawaii Bowl? Don’t we play them sometime in the future?
afternoon tsai-kos pau hana and cleaning up so posting before heading out.
whomever UH plays the fans need to come out and support. warriors will represent so we need to fill up da hale.
but first things first, come out this sat and yell your arse off so we can get that 7 win. going be exciting. GO WARRIORS
one more time as i shut-down from work….
i’m thankful for many things and it certainly includes Tsaiko’s……..here……there……and everywhere. 🙂
Happy Gobble Gobble!!!
LTUH,
mahalo for the good thoughts and prayers…..
talked to the beast today, he is in great spirits, shoulder is making a great comeback, full mobility at this point, at about 75% strength right now……he practiced today and is ready to go for the playoffs.
ironically, Cal Poly was one of the schools who wanted the beast, and rich ellerson is a former UH Rainbow Warrior himself. they have a beautiful stadium in san luis obispo, looking forward to a good game.
cal poly has a WR that is 6’6 and projected 1st 3 rounds for NFL; also on the Walter Payton Watch List…….
HAPPY THANKSGIVING…kind of like Happy…..Thanks……Giving….
we seem to be more HAPPY when we’re giving THANKS or just plain GIVING
we are all so very blessed, look around the world……then look at us, we have everything, and most importantly… we have our freedom. God Bless our troops in harm’s way, and thank you for all that have served in protecting our country.

Happy Thanksgiving All!
Howzit All,
Happy Thanksgiving and have a most wonderful day tomorrow.
Just wondering but are we done with the recruiting news or is there still more to come. Just wondering.
I’ll save my most profuse cheers for Tyler when he graduates. Tyler, if you read this blog, I give you full credit for your contributions to Warrior football and manning up to your mistakes instead of being a team infection. Now’s the time to do the thing that will be a life-time achievement…GRADUATE
shutting down so esmeeeeeeeeeeee out the door.
I second what BG said at # 163. Go, Tyler!
Navy is a good thought for a Hawaii bowl opponent for UH should they become bowl eligible. The big military contingency here and Niumatalolo and the local boys on their team would surely bring increased attendance campared to a Buffalo or a UTEP team.
Ooh, there’s kama! Hi!
And koakane and BG and D1 and Bulla and … and … and …
Happy thanksgiving everyone! to the Bullas, have a safe trip to Cal Poly and I hope the Beast is healthy to play….
Things I have to be thankful for:
-Born and raised in Hawaii.
-Being able to live in Hawaii.
-Being brought up by good parents.
-Finding pride in who I am as a person through UH athletics. (Too long to explain)
-Finding this blog and being able to experience things a lot of UH fans would through the efforts of people on this blog.
I meant to say:
“Finding this blog and being able to experience things a lot of UH fans would die for.”

So… How did it go.
All I got was a thank you, then silence…
=(
Just got my Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl ticket in the mail. Wow, so this makes five straight bowls for me. I still remember my first one; I was a senior in high school, and when my friends asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said I wanted to attend the game (I had only attended two UH games previously — the Jeep O‘ahu Bowl in 1999 and the game against LaTech when Timmy broke the record). They scrapped the money together, and let me use it to buy a ticket.
Ah, what great friends. I am truly blessed to have great friends, whether they be from five years ago or now, from school or here on the blog. Especially at UH games, where “it’s so nice to see familiar faces out in the crowd; it’s so nice to see friends of mine enjoy themselves.” 😀
20 hours until the gorging begins!!!
Kekoa the ride on the SF would be smoother on the way back since they will be running down swell. Tell them not to feel too bad. I know plenty of people in the Coast Guard and Navy that get seasick too. If people think the Kaiwi channel between Oahu and Molokai is bad, wait until the SF starts running to the Big Island and has to cross the Alenuihaha channel between Maui and the Big Island. That channel is usually rougher than the Kaiwi channel.
jm03.14 . . .
No it was not that we were worried about losing to a bunch of girls. Because they were not just a bunch of girls any more than the Wahine VB team are just another university women’s vb team. Everyone of the 5 seniors on that team went on to play at the D1 level. They were awesome!
In fact, most of their matches it was like watching the Wahine play against high schoolers.
So when we accepted their challenge we (both teams) figured the teachers would get slaughtered in three straight. The girls asked that we treat the game like the Nationals vs the Globetrotters. The intention, of course, was that we would lose and the kids at school would have a wonderful time.
We did. Even after changing the scores — that was my job. And, they did. Walking off the floor with a rousing standing ovation, with the band blaring the fight song. Definitely had to be the best assembly in which I had the pleasure of participating.
Still makes me smile.
Mr. Tsai . . .
As much as I would like to be able to use the tickets, sadly, I cannot. So . . .
Should I win the tickets please give them to DPK’s son. I sure hope the son will invite his father to the game!!!
Just got back and enjoyed Princess Leila’s videos. It’s nice to have her back in action.
Happy and peaceful Thanksgiving, everybody, the world’s in turmoil, but still plenty to be thankful for.
I don’t care what the Wazzu spread is, just win, baby !!!!
Kekoa did you bring your fishing gear on the SF….with Diana and Kimana chumming the water, good chance to catch a marlin or a big ahi for your poke
If you have the opportunity tonight watch “Sons of Mistletoe” on ABC Family.
Good story.
How fast does the SF go?
Kind of fast trolling, I think. HA!
…wafan… water skiing…. behind the supa-ferry…. 😯 😆 😆
Before I sign off for the next couple days, I’d like to wish everyone here a Happy Thanksgiving holiday wherever you may be.
I might be back on the blog Saturday to partake in the in-game discussion.
Until then,
Whoooooooosh!
Happy Thanksgiving to you CRW!!! 😀
Happy Thanksgiving, Tsai-kos!
The GF took me out for some kalbi at her favorite kalbi restaurant on south side of the Han river last night. It was a traditional sit-on-da-floor-crossed-legged, grill-your-own-kalbi, restaurant. Ono-broke-da-mout dinner!
Pomai,
38 – 10
Brew . . .
Para-sailing would at least be a lot smoother ride.
But, if you hit the water. The chute will be such a drag!
Okay, last one for the night.
Merry Thanksgiving Eve to all!!!
I hope the team doesn’t miss a beat with Pilares and Mouton possibly sidelined for Saturday’s game. Those two are big impacts on offense and defense. Please Warriors don’t let up on the kitty kats and don’t be overconfident. Take care of business!
Go Warriors!
We Believe!
again, not to try to compete with THE Princess, but here’s 2nite’s news

Thanks wafan!
Hey buller and clan; take care of youselfs and keep a sharp eye on Da Beast’s wounded limb. Best of luck to Weber St. and congrats to Cameron Higgins pick as MVP and all-star.
Only 4 hours ’til I pick up the kid. Or should I say son of Kid or Kid Jr.?
Kid-too! 😆
So, is it okay for me to yell at DPK Jr., “Go by yo’ faddah!”
Yes Jason, you may. But you prolly won’t need to as he is dignified, well mannered, and polite just like his “faddah”. 😆
Before I forget, Princess Leila; you did a masterful job of writing the Colt article. Yous is such a multi-tasking talented Princess aint ya?
I could crack a joke right there, but I will not, as I am dignified, well-mannered, and polite, just like … ❓
the wahine can’t pass a ball to save their life. maybe they need this wake up call. they should’ve never left the big west. the wac is a joke for vball.
cal poly is only 3rd in the big west.
and i didn’t know the girls can wear make up when they play. some of the cal poly players clearly have stuff on.
chawan_cut,
Tonights news? I think I’m in a time warp, lol.
Don’t all the girls like to look their best for you, chawan_cut?
For those who were hoping for a BYU-UH matchup in the Hawaii Bowl, I already posted how the Vegas Bowl would take BYU a week ago. Talk radio got some mileage by bringing BYU up this week (I heard some of that while driving around), but there was no way that it would have happened.
For those hoping for Navy to play in the Hawaii Bowl, on November 1 Navy accepted a spot in the EagleBank Bowl. Navy has a tie with that bowl and is not available to the Hawaii Bowl anytime in the foreseeable future. Navy will get to play an ACC team in their bowl game.
thanks floridated.
i copied the wrong link.

and the wahine are finally playing like they should. they can’t afford to make mistakes.
At least the Wahine somehow pulled out the first game…or this match would be in much worse shape now.
The woman arrested in the bathroom at an Iowa football game on Saturday says that the incident ruined her life.
oh yes, welcome home garret. couldn’t make it monday to the lunch.
how long you here for?
At least things are a little more comfortable for the Wahine now. This test could be good for them to stay sharp before postseason play…as long as they pull it out and don’t lose their NCAA tournament position.
chawan_cut,
I looked for you at the Na Koa lunch but didn’t see you. I’m here until Friday. I’ll meet up with you next time.
can’t even stay for the home game?
and i spoke too soon. the wahine are back to “normal”
Does anyone know what time the football team will practice on Thursday and Friday? Is the new Ching field going to be ready soon? Thank you.
chawan_cut,
It would cost more than $5k for my family to stay for the football game (either Idaho or Wazzoo). It cost just $1500 (which includes tax and fees) to leave on Friday, which includes a rental car. I couldn’t afford to stay for the game. Plus, if we stayed for either game my kids would have to miss school and the travel schedule would have been hard on my young kids.
No matter how much I love Warrior football, having my kids spend time with my parents and my wife’s parents was the most important thing. We are trying to find a similar deal to come home for Christmas, which if I get lucky will include the Hawaii Bowl.
Bigmac,
No chance for Ching Field this week–they haven’t started laying the new turf yet. If it keeps raining, there will be more delays. Hopefully they will have the new turf in time for the team to practice before the Hawaii Bowl.
wafan – yeah but the MPI MS teachers… sheesh. These were 7th & 8th grade girls and 2 or 3 of the teachers were 20-something males. VB season over for a while now and the teachers still lost!!! Then they go change the score. The teachers even brought in a ringer. Tara’s been student teaching since last semester (PE I think).
Tomorrow I get to brave the grocery stores and watch the Hoyas beat up on someone, then watch the Cowpokes lose (one can only hope the Seagulls actually find their game). 😀 🙄
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff.
New math technique to describe invisibility cloaks could lead to simpler and more effective invisibility cloaks.
Here is the list of the round of pardons given by Bush before he leaves office. I’m sure that there are interesting back stories on how these people got on the list instead of so many other candidates. This list isn’t as bad as the pardon list by Clinton right before he left office, at least in my opinion.
I’m amazed at these Nielsen results. I always thought that teens and young adults were the heaviest users of the Internet. However the statistics show that the heaviest internet users are people 35-64 years old!
The Pennsylvania National Guard will use the “flying beer keg” to monitor operations in Iraq.
What a surprise…problems with Windows 7 has forced Microsoft to fall behind schedule in released its first public beta version.
garret,
$5k vs $1.5k, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to make that choice, heh………
Free play links pau. I have to work after the Wahine game is over so good night everybody!
our girls are getting block all night long…game 5 is up
the passing must improve to give the setter more options, otherwise, all night, high left
they did mention how many blocks and aces cal poly has after 4 games…
wahine got lucky. they were outplayed. the home court advantage helped big time.
wow what a vb match.
gave shoji credit as he is a great game strategist as there is in college vb.
Nice article in brand x paper about BrianK and his new service dog.
Wait – Liz Chun is wrong, isn’t she? Friday is Senior Night for Wahine VB, right?
3 in a row
Home run
friday is senior night
5 in a row
Rats!
Thanks Ralph. That’s what I thought. So why was Liz so misinformed?
what’s the actual Wahine score? The reporting kind kind of cryptic, lol.
FloridaTed,
25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-13
Update on Bess starting for Miami.
happy thanksgiving to everyone,
whew, take a breath, look around, and let’s all be thankful.
mahalo for all of the prayers, good thoughts, support, and did i say prayers…..for ryan and our family. we leave tomorrow night on a red eye flight and will be in san luis obispo friday mid morning.
ryan is in great spirits, he has practiced the last two days, today was full contact. his shoulder will be ok for the game, it’s the playoffs, and Cal Poly has a mobile QB, so the beast will have to introduce himself to him.
happy thanksgiving…….happy……………thanks………………….giving
maybe it should be happy givingthanks day instead? just a thought…….
dpk, give the little dpk a hug from us to him…. 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving Tsaikos!
What I/we are thankful for:
The Tsaiko Ohana
Our military serving away from home
The parents of our Hawaii student athletes at UH and away
Coaching staff and student athletes who do more than just sports
(see attached link): http://picasaweb.google.com/808Cruiser/TsaikoMisc?authkey=d1CxvAjpGx8
Bigmac: picture in the above album shows Ching Field this morning just before practice. I guess completion will depend on the weather. The rolls look like the underlayment
Thanks, Garret.
Was this match supposed to be this tough?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
Please be very careful and not imbibe too much! Theres always tomorrow and enough of the stuff to go around.
rinda brooks…..eh?
in 2001, stephen tsai mentioned in an article about brooks selection as a hula bowl participant, that in spite of gaining 25 lbs over the past year, a 240lb rinda brooks was electronically time at 4.38 in the 40. gosh he should have played running back, no?
so we have reopened the New Mexico Military Institute connection with the recruitment of nathan mageo.
so what does rinda brooks do these days????
happy thanksgiving you all!
plenty cooking and eating going on tomw.
but, lets not all forget to be thankful for all that your life is surrounded by. it didn’t happen by accident. He planned it you see.

Good Morning Tsaiko-Naition!
Happy Thanksgiving!!

~•~~~•~~~~•~Good..Morning..Tsaikos..and..Warrior..Nation!!!~•~~~~•~~~•~
😆 ❤ 😆 Happy..Thanksgiving..to..all!!! 😆 ❤ 😆
I especially want to thank ST (and Wena) for creating this wonderful Warrior Beat and Tsaiko community where we can all share our enthusiasm for Warrior Football, UH Sports, and the rest of the F’s (Fun, Fuud, Friendship, Family, Fishing, Fooling-around, Falsetto-Tsinging, etc.). Although I have never met most of you, all of you have grown to be very important people to me, and I truly enjoy your company, each and every day!
On this Thanksgiving day (and weekend), we should all take a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are to be…. us! Please take the time to hug your loved ones, and to really talk to them and tell them how you truly feel. Take the extra effort to help the less fortunate ones around us. Go out and do a kind deed, or two, or three. Let’s share the Aloha spirit with others. Be a Tsaiko! And that is a special honor!
Happy Thanksgiving Tsaikos!!! 😀
😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆 😀 😆
Thanks be to all Tsaiko Turkey lovers on this special day.
We have much to be thankful of. As we each sit down to enjoy the tradition of grinding lots of our favorite foods, let us remember to pause and give thanks to our partners in life. The Mother’s of our children, without whom we would be stuck with changing ‘do-do’ diapers in the most inopportune situations.
…Oh and DPK…Watch your kid, huh?!
A tremendously super day is in store!
Millions across the globe can only dream of having the freedoms and rights we take for granted. We have clean water, homes with power and heat, very special people willing to safe-guard both us and our beliefs, and people who care about us even though we are Tsai-ko. Heck, we are so blessed as Americans we can even have fun discussing and arguing about games!
One of my girls, an exchange student from Denmark, was amazed at the amount of food her family was going to prepare for today’s feast. She asked if this was normal for Thanksgiving or if was just because she was here.
Three of my kids are losing their homes because their parents lost their jobs in the past couple of months. I have lost count of the number of student lunches I purchased for them and other kids. They promise to pay me back — I told them they just need to work hard in classes instead.
Be thankful and give thanks throughout the year for what we have!!!
Very well stated Brewmeister! Have a Happy, my *virtual* on-line WB Buddy! Enjoy your day!
New post up.
Wafan ~ I will have your sack lunch at the ready wen you get back to the homestead. Thanks to you, the kids you help will prolly go on to help others.
